Testo completoThe synthesis of poly(2-alkyl-2-oxazoline)s (POx) by CROP, although well controlled since its discovery in 1966, still presents some limitations. Polymerization control is a key parameter for achieving high molar masses, narrow dispersities and well-defined macromolecules. The first part of this study is devoted to the deciphering of key parameters to circumvent these shortcomings on order to synthesize various (co)polymers family suitable for applications in physics and polymerization purposes. Limitation of the standard polymerization concept are then encountered. Thanks to the recent development of a cationic RAFT mechanism for vinyl ethers and styrenic derivatives, the way has been opened to the synthesis of polymers by a new mechanism and of unprecedented copolymers. In a first part, POx functionalized with a RAFT agent were obtained with the aim of using such macromolecules as macroCTAs for RAFT polymerization of a second block. Finally, the cationic RAFT polymerization strategy was adapted to POx by screening RAFT agents to determine the most efficient one. This new mechanism was investigated in detail, varying the parameters required to understand the system and improve polymerization control
