Testo completoThe revolution induced by the digital transformation of very small enterprises (VSEs) and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is unprecedented, driven by the rapid emergence of digital technologies. This change goes far beyond mere tool modernization; it brings about a profound shift in how these businesses interact with their economic and social environment. This thesis argues that this transformation constitutes a strategic process that comprehensively and innovatively integrates digital technologies into all aspects of an organization. It delves into how the digital transformation of traditional VSEs/SMEs can act as a catalyst for territorial economic development, analyzing its socio-economic issues and impacts. By combining qualitative and quantitative approaches, it addresses the issue from various angles, including organizational, managerial, and territorial dimensions. Structured around four distinct axes of analysis, this thesis through articles examines the strategic aspect of digital transformation and its role in territorial resilience, the management of externalities generated by this transformation, the evolution of the role of leadership, and the impact of using generative AI in data management and decision-making. Beyond the individual findings of the articles, several cross-cutting conclusions emerge from the research, highlighting the growing importance of digitalization for traditional VSEs/SMEs while underscoring the need for a balanced approach between digital tools and human interactions. By integrating a digital evolution of the theory of strategic construction by the business leader developed by Henry Mintzberg, this thesis puts forward recommendations for leaders and institutions. These recommendations aim to promote digital culture, facilitate collaboration, and provide personalized support for the implementation of digital transformation within businesses. Importantly, this approach, by highlighting a different perception of digitalization and digital transformation within the company, fosters the development of ecosystems in perspective with territorial attractiveness. Finally, this thesis aims to assist economic and institutional actors in successfully navigating the digital era by integrating principles of digital sobriety and environmental responsibility into their strategies, while fostering innovation and competitiveness

Testo completoMechatronics seems to be a source of organizational renewal as well as providing access to new markets characterized by the growing digitization of products and services. A question arises then: are organizations engaged in mechatronic design and production activity specific? And if so, within a broader context of Industrie 4.0, markedly digitized, can we provide a framework with guidelines that can be applied by the small and medium sized traditional mechanical organizations in order to position themselves in relation to this framework and consider to adopt a plan of actions and evolve towards mechatronics? This survey focuses on 5 noteworthy case studies that already have acquired a good mechatronic maturity level. The study enabled us to establish a relationship between the mechatronicity level of a product and the processes these organizations have put into practice in order to design and manufacture mechatronic products. More markedly yet, we have come to the conclusion that mechatronic products can be seen as levers to the creation of service offerings and thus push these companies to change their business models. We therefore propose that the latter should be managed by modern tools like the Business Motivation Model, for example. As the matter of fact, the BMM is a flexible and therefore suitable management tool for these mechatronic service oriented production systems (PSS). A service oriented architecture (SOA) of an organization then has to be planned, and we find that the business motivation model (BMM) is suitable for bridging these organizational architecture challenges.Specifically, we propose two practical and simple tools that can be seen as internal audit tools for any organization wanting to assess its competencies in mechatronics prior to plan future developments: on the one hand we elaborate metrics to assess the mechatronicity level of a product and a model assessing the mechatronic maturity level of the organization on the other.More broadly, this survey enables us to see mechatronics as a sequential evolution starting with a mechanical mono-domain product without communication abilities which develops to a multi domain digitized product communicating with other systems. The intermediate evolution phases are analogue basic electronic instrumentation, followed by digital electronics and embedded computing. The latter represents the real transition to mechatronics and drives the whole organization towards the digitization of its products and also its means of production and thus towards Industrie 4.0. This can also be seen as a proposal of a taxonomy of mechatronics

Testo completoOur research project aims to define the skills witch can be used to provide strategic support for small and medium size companies run by owner-managers in the field of traditional sub-contracting. Some of these companies, locked into local production systems, have been weakened by the restructuring taking place in industrial supply chains such as those of car industry sub-contracting. The scarcity of studies dealing with the specific strategic problems of these companies leaves their managers poorly equipped to carry out the strategic changes witch are indispensable for their development or even survival, especially in an area characterised by powerful constraints and with a strong structure of industrial representation. In spite of the difficult circumstances faced by these companies we believe, on the basis of exploratory research on the strategic position of the industries of the Arve Valley, that their managers could develop differentiating advantages, though this would mean developing more proactive strategic behaviour. To do this our engineering research approach aims to create a way of helping the strategic configuration of these companies in co-operation with those who have to act on the ground. The identification of margins for manoeuvre for these sub-contractors requires a systemic approach witch involves putting the representation of owner-managers in relation with those of other key actors such as those giving orders. Furthermore, the inventory of strategic resources and key skills allows us to identify levers for development, notably in terms of developing new services flows. Finally, opening a debate about strategy in companies generally focussed on the operational and the short term has the effect of helping to bring people together to create a strategic thrust for the company. In the end the method helps us to draw up an intelligible picture of the company's situation in terms of resources and key skills, to build a shared strategic vision, and to design a programme of strategic actions. It can notably stimulate developments in the strategic configuration of the company and prompt owner-managers to be more proactive in their strategic behaviour
