Abstract (sommario):
This chapter discusses the complementary tools and incentives that can be adopted by jurisdictions to ensure the proper and effective use of the Modular Approach and to give due regard to the position and role of the various types of stakeholders involved in a MSME insolvency process. It specifically focuses on the roles and obligations of the MSME entrepreneur, both at times approaching insolvency and during the MSME insolvency process. Entrepreneurs do not always possess the education and skills to monitor the financial situation of their business and to react accordingly. With regard to the MSME framework, they would usually not be capable of designing a proper continuation plan. They might not even be aware that there is a chance to turn their business around by using mechanisms under insolvency law. In all these areas, education is a useful remedy. Jurisdictions should establish a method for providing affordable educational counselling and legal advice.

Abstract (sommario):
Where Chapter 18 discusses revision of the treatment plan and ending of pain treatment, Chapter 23 focuses on the conclusion of addiction treatment. It closes the loop to Chapter 11, Initiating Treatment and Monitoring Patient Progress. The authors describe the conditions which will oblige a revision of the treatment plan; such as alterations in prescription medications with cross-metabolism, pregnancy or menopause, liver disease, or aging. There are also behavioral conditions that will oblige plan modification, whether dysfunctional or hostile behaviors or other psychiatric instability. Consequently, a significant portion of the chapter is dedicated to the identification of relapse, its psychodynamic and developmental meanings, and the appropriate interventions for it. Voluntary and involuntary terminations and the therapeutic steps taken with both are discussed as logical continuations of any treatment plan.

Abstract (sommario):
This chapter introduces the model problems and the solution operator for the associated heat equations. These operators give a good approximation for the behavior of the heat kernel in neighborhoods of different types of boundary points. The chapter states and proves the elementary features of these operators and shows that the model heat operators have an analytic continuation to the right half plane. It first considers the model problem in 1-dimension and in higher dimensions before discussing the solution to the homogeneous Cauchy problem. It then describes the first steps toward perturbation theory and constructs the solution operator for generalized Kimura diffusions on a suitable scale of Hölder spaces. It also defines the resolvent families and explains why the estimates obtained here are not adequate for the perturbation theoretic arguments needed to construct the solution operator for generalized Kimura diffusions.

Abstract (sommario):
Chapter 3 considers the first English-language higher spatial fiction, Edwin Abbott Abbott’s Flatland (1884). Flatland marks a crucial juncture in the n-dimensional turn, a deceptively complex and playful literary response that inserted the palpably difficult idea of higher-dimensional space into the cultural sphere. This chapter disinters its satirical forebears and works through the criticism of the text in an effort to construct a usable critical paradigm, focusing on pedagogy, rhetoric, imagination, and space. It analyses the play with analogy of Flatland, and how it may consider its own functioning as a model. Considering at some length A Square’s continuation of the text into post-publication correspondence, a meta-textual ploy that works to expand the text dimensionally, constituting new dimensions of reading in other locations, it argues that Flatland is an active participant in modelled higher dimensionality.

Abstract (sommario):
This practical handbook provides ready-to-use lesson plans that connect picture books to the Common Core standards and are ready to roll out on Monday. Elementary school librarians today are working harder than ever, sometimes serving in two or more libraries. Most have very little time to develop lesson plans, particularly the task of relating them to standards. Elementary school librarians need materials aligned with Common Core standards that are ready to go. Written by working school librarians with 44 years of combined experience, this instructional book is designed for use with primary grade students and offers 37 library lessons that have been tested and refined in the authors' elementary school libraries. The lessons are constructed with follow-up materials and recommended book lists to encourage classroom teacher collaboration and continuation of the lesson. Each lesson is accompanied by reproducible patterns and worksheets and includes complete bibliographic information. Also included in each lesson are a description of the standards applied, skills and objectives addressed, recommended grade levels, lists of props and materials needed, a step-by-step lesson description, and follow-up activities.

Abstract (sommario):
Privilege at Play is a book about inequalities, social hierarchies, and privilege in contemporary Mexico. Based on ethnographic research conducted in exclusive golf clubs and in-depth interviews with upper-middle-class and upper-class golfers, as well as working-class employees, the book focuses on the class, racial, and gender dynamics that underpin privilege. This study makes use of rich qualitative data to demonstrate how social hierarchies are relations reproduced through a multitude of everyday practices. The vast disparities between club members and workers, for example, are built on traditional class indicators, such as wealth, and on more subtle expressions of class, such as notions of fashion, sense of humor, perceptions about competition, and everyday oral interactions. The book incorporates race and gender perspectives into the study of inequalities, illustrating the multilayer condition of privilege. Although Mexicans commonly attributed racial relations a marginal role in the continuation of inequities, the book explains how affluent individuals frequently express racialized ideas to describe and justify the impoverished condition of workers. In doing so, Privilege at Play demonstrates the necessity of considering the role of racialized dynamics when studying social inequalities in Mexico. An analysis of gender relations shows how men maintain a dominant position over their fellow female golfers despite the similar upper-class origins of both male and female golf club members. This book pays particular attention to the spatial dynamics that reinforce social inequalities, arguing that the apparent triviality of space makes it a highly effective way to mark social inequalities and, hence, emphasize privilege.

Abstract (sommario):
Chapter 09 Nonequilibrium Green’s functions (NEGF), including coupled-correlated (C) single- and multi-particle Green’s functions, are defined as averages weighted with the time-development operator U(t0+τ,t0). Linear conductivity is exhibited as a two-particle equilibrium Green’s function (Kubo-type formulation). Admitting particle sources (S:η,η+) and non-conservation of number, the non-equilibrium multi-particle Green’s functions are constructed with numbers of creation and annihilation operators that may differ, and they may be derived as variational derivatives with respect to sources η,η+ of a generating functional eW=TrU(t0+τ,t0)CS/TrU(t0+τ,t0)C. (In the non-interacting case this yields the n-particle Green’s function as a permanent/determinant of single-particle Green’s functions.) These variational relations yield a symmetric set of multi-particle Green’s function equations. Cumulants and the Linked Cluster Theorem are discussed and the Random Phase Approximation (RPA) is derived variationally. Schwinger’s variational differential formulation of perturbation theories for the Green’s function, self-energy, vertex operator, and also shielded potential perturbation theory, are reviewed. The Langreth Algebra arises from analytic continuation of integration of products of Green’s functions in imaginary time to the real-time axis with time-ordering along the integration contour in the complex time plane. An account of the Generalized Kadanoff-Baym Ansatz is presented.

Abstract (sommario):
The perception of pain is a biological mechanism which warns that damage has occurred and protects against further damage, allowing healing to occur. Acute pain often acts as an indicator of injury severity and progression or healing. The same may apply in some with chronic injuries, but in others pain may not correlate with tissue damage and/or may not be a sign that the tissue needs to be protected from mechanical stress. The management of most sports injuries involves early mobilization where possible, and pain management in the treatment of these injuries is important to allow rehabilitation to proceed and to ease distress. Modalities play an important role in this respect, and are discussed elsewhere (Chapter 2.4). Injection therapies are also discussed elsewhere (Chapter 2.6). Thorough counselling of the athlete is a priority to ensure that he/she understands what the pain represents, as this will be likely to affect compliance. For example, a degree of pain during eccentric exercise protocols in the rehabilitation of chronic tendinopathies would be anticipated, and would not contraindicate continuation of a set programme. In contrast, when an athlete is returning to sporting activities after injury, pain that is experienced during the activity would not be acceptable, and the athlete is also advised during this period that conclusions as to the tissue’s reaction to activity should not be drawn until the day after the training session. Athletes should also be taught appropriate self-help strategies to manage their pain and when this involves medication, how and when to take it. Principles for the use of medications in pain management are given in ...

Abstract (sommario):
The aerobic oxidation of organic material by microbes is the focus of this chapter. Microbes account for about 50% of primary production in the biosphere, but they probably account for more than 50% of organic material oxidization and respiration (oxygen use). The traditional role of microbes is to degrade organic material and to release plant nutrients such as phosphate and ammonium as well as carbon dioxide. Microbes are responsible for more than half of soil respiration, while size fractionation experiments show that bacteria are also responsible for about half of respiration in aquatic habitats. In soils, both fungi and bacteria are important, with relative abundances and activity varying with soil type. In contrast, fungi are not common in the oceans and lakes, where they are out-competed by bacteria with their small cell size. Dead organic material, detritus, used by microbes, comes from dead plants and waste products from herbivores. It and associated microbes can be eaten by many eukaryotic organisms, forming a detritus food web. These large organisms also break up detritus into small pieces, creating more surface area on which microbes can act. Microbes in turn need to use extracellular enzymes to hydrolyze large molecular weight compounds, which releases small compounds that can be transported into cells. Fungi and bacteria use a different mechanism, “oxidative decomposition,” to degrade lignin. Organic compounds that are otherwise easily degraded (“labile”) may resist decomposition if absorbed to surfaces or surrounded by refractory organic material. Addition of labile compounds can stimulate or “prime” the degradation of other organic material. Microbes also produce organic compounds, some eventually resisting degradation for thousands of years, and contributing substantially to soil organic material in terrestrial environments and dissolved organic material in aquatic ones. The relationship between community diversity and a biochemical process depends on the metabolic redundancy among members of the microbial community. This redundancy may provide “ecological insurance” and ensure the continuation of key biogeochemical processes when environmental conditions change.
