La poésie occupe une place importante dans la société aztèque du XVième siècle au Mexique ; c’est l’instrument d’enseignement et de transmission de la philosophie par excellence. Il existe plusieurs genre de poésie dont deux sont présentés ici : xochicuicatl (chant fleuri) et icnocuicatl (chant triste). L’examen de ces genres poétiques permet d’apprécier la beauté et la symbolique de la langue nahuatl et illustre l’opposition de deux philosophies.

RÉSUMÉ Dans son article de 1913, «L’intérêt de la psychanalyse», Freud déclarait que la philosophie pouvait profiter des lumières de la psychanalyse parce que celle-ci peut dévoiler la motivation subjective et individuelle de doctrines philosophiques prétendument issues d’un travail logique et impartial, et ainsi désigner à la critique les points faibles du système d’un philosophe. Mon texte présente quelques exemples de l’utilisation de la psychanalyse pour identifier l’impact de l’inconscient sur la pensée de certains philosophes tels que Parménide, Berkeley, Kant, Sartre. À la lumière de ces exemples, j’examine brièvement quelques questions à propos du conseil de Freud : Est-il praticable ? Quand peut-on l’appliquer ? Comment en rendre l’application moralement acceptable ? Selon quels critères juger de la valeur de vérité d’interprétations psychanalytiques de ce genre ? Quels sont les bénéfices, et en valent-ils la peine ?

Dans le texte spécialisé, le genre se reconnaît par ses traits linguistiques qui sont générés par le contexte social. Les scientifiques de la fin du XVIIe siècle étaient conscients que la nouvelle science expérimentale qu’ils promouvaient avait besoin d’un genre nouveau. Robert Boyle fait usage de différents genres pour des sujets différents : théologie, philosophie, ou science ; pour la science, il crée le genre nouveau de l’essai expérimental. Dans son ouvrage History of the Royal Society, Thomas Sprat établit les règles de base du style nouveau requis par les membres de la Royal Society. Henry Oldenburg fonde le Philosophical Transactions dont le contenu est tiré de sa volumineuse correspondance. Il rédige d’abord les entrées lui-même mais adopte rapidement une stratégie qui consiste à utiliser des passages verbatim autant que possible. Ces trois exemples démontrent comment s’est créé ce genre nouveau à partir duquel s’est développé le genre de l’essai scientifique d’aujourd’hui.

One might think that the illustrated pocket monographs devoted to philosophers belong to a minor editorial genre whose aim is entirely didactic. This article would like to show on the contrary that they are not without interest for those who want to consider the constraints of discourse in philosophy. The modes of presentation, illustration, and composition proposed by the various collections of monographs, as well as those devoted to writers, are compared among themselves, by mobilizing the methods of discourse analysis. We show that their retrospective function consists in elaborating a specific arrangement for the ‘constitutive discourses’ of the relation formed by each singular philosophy between life, work and doctrine. This is one way to help solve the risks of tension between singularity and universality, randomness of thought and creation of a work, speculative schemes and modes of exposure.

Résumé . – Catherine Macaulay a recours à un toute une gamme de genres littéraires en vue de développer une philosophie systématique fondée sur la liberté humaine et de défendre une philosophie politique républicaine. Les différents points du système sont articulés selon des genres littéraires particuliers cohérents avec les points eux-mêmes. Son système tient en trois principes centraux : (a) le primat de la liberté humaine ; (b) la promotion de la liberté publique comme mesure de la vertu ; enfin (c) une éducation qui permet à la jeunesse de reconnaitre la liberté humaine et d’entrer dans la société civile avec l’engagement de s’assurer que le gouvernement la préserve.

Résumé S’appuyant sur l’étude des discours de réception des romanciers admis au sein de l’Académie française dans la seconde moitié du XIX e siècle jusqu’à 1914 et des réponses des directeurs académiques qui Jes accueillent, on veut discerner comment l’institution s’est pliée à la progression historique du roman attestée par son succès auprès du lectorat, tout en tentant d’infléchir son devenir. On constate une relecture du passé récent, l’Académie faisant notamment amende honorable de son refus envers Balzac, mais persistant à exclure les réalistes contemporains. Encore convaincue de la légèreté du genre, de son inaptitude à égaler philosophie, histoire, poésie et comédie, et surtout de sa nocivité morale, les Immortels préfèrent élire des romanciers «honnêtes» — Sandeau, Feuillet, Dumas fils, Cherbuliez - dans l’espoir de fixer des normes sociales à ce genre ascendant. Indignés du développement de l’école naturaliste, ils la combattent en appelant parmi eux les pontifes de la littérature idéaliste de la fin du siècle — Loti, Bourget, France, Barrés. En 1900, le roman siège à égalité avec les autres genres sous la Coupole, mais la concurrence de l’Académie Goncourt stigmatise le retard pris par l’institution.

La matérialité biologique du corps humain est devenue l'objet d'interventions inédites au moyen de nouvelles technologies biomédicales, comme la procréation médicalement assistée, les tests génétiques, la contraception hormonale. Cette thèse part des difficultés inhérentes à une approche antinaturaliste pour aborder la dimension biologique des corps sexués. “On ne naît pas femme, on le devient” : mais qu'en est-il des corps ? Les technologies biomédicales investissent la chair selon des modalités qui échappent aux grilles d'analyses matérialiste et butlérienne. Faut-il y voir une réfutation du constructivisme, la revanche d'un socle biologique – hormonal, génétique, moléculaire – primant sur les effets anatomiques de la socialisation, comme le suggèrent les partisan·e·s d'un material turn féministe ? À partir d'une analyse de l'évolution de la notion de nature, définie comme "vie elle-même" depuis la révolution moléculaire de la biologie, cette thèse propose une autre interprétation, en définissant les technologies biomédicales comme des technologies de pouvoir relevant d’une biopolitique moléculaire de genre. Sans infirmer la perspective constructiviste, ces médiations sociales originales (adossées au nouveau paradigme épistémique) permettent de comprendre comment les frontières et limites du genre sont déplacées, tout en produisant des identités, des expériences et des subjectivités genrées inédites. En dégageant les coordonnées d'un véritable dispositif biomédical, notre étude comparative entre techniques disciplinaires et biopolitique moléculaire de genre plaide pour une critique antinaturaliste renouvelée, s’articulant à une critique de la technique qui permette d'inventer collectivement des moyens pour se réapproprier démocratiquement les technologies biomédicales.The biological materiality of the human body has become an object of unprecedented interventions through “new biomedical technologies” as medically assisted procreation, genetic tests, or hormonal contraception. This thesis interrogates the difficulties inherent to anti-naturalist approaches in order to address the biological dimension of sexed bodies. “One is not born a woman, one becomes one”, but is this also true for the body? The analytical frames of materialist or deconstructivist feminism cannot cease the modalities through which biomedical technologies invest the flesh. Do biomedical technologies make constructivist approaches obsolete through the revenge of a biological – hormonal, genetic, molecular – ground that tops the anatomical effects of socialization? Partisans of a feminist “material turn” seem to think so. After analyzing how the molecular biology revolution changes the very concept of nature in defining it as “life itself”, I offer an alternative interpretation by defining biomedical technologies as technologies of power that stem from a molecular biopolitics of gender. Instead of overturning constructivist perspectives, these new social mediations (residing on a new epistemic paradigm) help understanding a shift in what has been seen as the limits of gender. This shift creates unprecedented identities, experiences and subjectivities of gender. In exposing the coordinates of the biomedical apparatus, this comparative study between disciplinary techniques and molecular biopolitics of gender pleads for a renewed anti-naturalist critique that takes the form of a critique of technology in order to allow for a collective appropriation of biomedical technologies.

Longtemps réputé dernier tableau possible, le monochrome radical marquait l'ultime étape de l'art de peindre. Or, sur les cimaises, des monochromes nouveaux apparaissent, toujours plus nombreux, depuis le début du XXe siècle. Le récit élaboré dans cette thèse montre comment la peinture monochrome, sans cesse menacée de sombrer dans le poncif, est devenue un genre. La première partie décrit les efforts déployés par Yves Klein pour apparaitre comme l'inventeur d'un genre qu'il savait ne pas avoir créé, et elle analyse les œuvres dont il s'est démarqué pour mieux conforter sa place d'initiateur, ainsi que les monochromes de ses contemporains. La deuxième partie observe la destinée du genre, après que les coups d'éclat d'Yves le monochrome l'ont imposé à l'attention. Des lors, là ou prévalait une volonté de rupture, s'installe la convention acceptée. Le succès du genre, avéré dès les années 1970, suscite en retour une recherche de ses antécédents avant le XXe siècle. Ils font l'objet de la troisième partie. Toujours lies a l'impératif de représentation, alors indépassable, les monochromes d’Alphonse Allais, de ses émules et ses prédécesseurs, proposent une mimesis paradoxale, toujours comique. Au terme de ce parcours, la peinture monochrome échappe à toute tentative de définition ontologique. Aussi pouvons-nous, tout au plus, tenter de cerner les traits saillants de sa diversitéThe radical monochrome was for many years considered the ultimate reduction of pictorial possibility, the final stage of the art of painting. And yet, since the beginning of the century, gallery and museum walls have exhibited an increasing number of such works. This thesis sets out to show how monochrome painting, though constantly threatened by cliché, has become a genre in its own right. The first part describes the efforts made by Yves klein to present himself as the inventor of a genre he knew he had not created. It analyses the works he rejected in order to consolidate his own inaugural position, and also looks at monochromes by his contemporaries. The second part follows the destiny of the genre after klein's tour de force had captured public attention. The noteworthy success of the monochrome since the seventies has in turn stimulated research into its pre-twentieth century forerunners. Their work is discussed in the third part. Given the prevailling artistic dogma of representation, the monochromes of Alphonse Allais, like those of his predecessors and followers, were invariably presented as paradoxical and comic works of mimesis. Having analysed its history, it becomes clear that monochrome. .

La thèse que nous présentons se fonde sur une lecture des Propos Pythiques en tant qu'ensemble cohérent de textes. La problématique traitée porte sur "l'imbrication des thèmes delphiques et philosophiques", imbrication qui se retrouve dans le titre même du corpus de "pythikoi logoi" (De E, 384E). Dans le texte, nous nommons cette imbrication la "synthèse topo-logique" et nous développons cette thèse en quatre chapitres. Dans le premier chapitre, "Philosophie et dialogue dans les Propos pythiques", nous nous intéressons au dialogue comme forme littéraire ainsi qu'à la scénographie proposée dans les Propos pythiques. Dans le deuxième chapitre, nous nous interrogeons sur la "Théologie delphique" contenue dans les Propos pythiques. Nous y étudions d'abord la réflexion présente dans le discours d'Ammonios sur l'Apollon de Delphes, puis la figure de Dionysos qui est évoquée dans le même texte. Dans le troisième chapitre, "Méditations delphiques", nous étudions ces figures médiatrices qui sont présentées dans le "De defectu " et le "De Pythiae". Nous analysons les hypothèses principales des démons et du pneuma, pour clore la discussion avec une réflexion sur l'âme-intermédiaire de la Pythie. Dans le quatrième chapitre, "Anthropologie delphique", nous nous intéressons à la condition humaine, d'abord à travers le discours d'Ammonios où apparaît non seulement la question de la temporalité et du cahngement, mais aussi la réflexion sur les conséquences épistémologiques de cette condition. Nous consacrons alors quelques pages au problème du scepticisme et de l'Académie chez Plutarque, avant de porter une conclusion éthique sur la valeur des Propos pythiquesThis thesis is based on a reading of the Pythian Dialogues as a coherent collection of texts. We postulate that the "Delphic themes evoked in these texts are intimately linked with philosophical themes", as is apparent in the title of the corpus, the "puthikoi logoi" (De E, 384E). Within the text this interweaving is termed the "topological synthesis". This concept is developped in four chapters. The first chapter "Philosophy and dialogue in the Pythian Dialogues" looks at both dialogues as a literay genre and at how discussion is staged in the Pythian Dialogues. The second chapter developpes into the question of "Delphic Theology" as discussed in the Pyhian Dialogues, analysing both the content of Ammonius' discourse on the Delphic Apollo and his remarks concerning Dionysus. The third chapter "Delphic meditations" provides a study of the mediating figures presented in the "De defectu" and the "De Pythiae", analysing the themes of the daemons and the pneuma. The section closes with remarks on the intermediary-soul of the Pythia. The fourth and final chapter, "Delphic Anthropology", addresses the human condition, not only though the words of Ammonios in a discussion on temporality and change but also through a reflection on the epistemological consequences of this condition. A brief discussion on the problems of the Academy and the scepticism of Plutach precede the conclusion on the value and the purpose of the Pythian Dialogues

Cette recherche porte sur l'évolution de l'objet dictionnaire, des premiers inventaires aux dictionnaires parodiques et littéraires. Un aperçu historique des différentes formes de classement des connaissances (listes, miscellanées, recueils) a été nécessaire afin d'établir une typologie des dictionnaires et leurs thématiques. Le Dictionnaire des idées reçues de G. Flaubert et le Dictionnaire du Diable de A. Bierce témoignent de la mise en question des savoirs opérée au 19e siècle. Le dictionnaire ne peut plus contenir tous les mots, ni l'encyclopédie représenter l'univers en abrégé. Le dictionnaire qui dicte, normalise et fige le sens sert dorénavant à dénoncer les stéréotypes et les formes cristallisées du sens ; il est un instrument de la critique sociale. Au 20e siècle, une remise en question du contenu et des limites du savoir s'opère, le dictionnaire met alors en scène une parodie de savoir, devenu instrument de jeu avec le Dictionnaire Khazar de M. Pavic, Le Fabuleux Bestiaire de madame Berthe de F. Tristan ou Le Livre des êtres imaginaires de Borges. D'un ouvrage doté de l'autorité de la loi, il reste un modèle d'utilisation prolifique, une "machine à rêver" qui se lit comme un nouveau genre de fiction par fragments, éclats de savoirs, formes brèves de la littérature. Deguy) ; le dictionnaire brise toutes les conventions esthétiques avec le Bardadrac de Gérard GenetteThis research is focused on the dictionary as an object, from the first inventories to the literary dictionary and the parodic dictionary. It seemed relevant to start with a historical survey of the different forms of the classification of knowledge (lists, miscellanies, collections…) so that a typology of the dictionaries and their themes could be established. The Dictionnaire des idées reçues by G. Flaubert and The Devil’s Dictionary by A. Bierce give evidence of the questioning of knowledge that took place in the 19th century. A dictionary cannot possibly contain all words nor the encyclopaedia represent the universe epitomized. The dictionary that dictates, fixes norms and meanings is now used to denounce stereotypes and forms that have been frozen. Besides, it is an instrument for social criticism. The 20th century questions the content and limits of knowledge, the dictionary also produces a parody of knowledge or becomes an instrument of humour such as the Dictionnaire Khazar by M. Pavic, Le Fabuleux Bestiaire de madame Berthe by F. Tristan or Le Livre des êtres imaginaires de Borges. From a work endowed with authority it remains a tool which is in prolific use, a “dream machine” which can be read as a new genre of fragmented fiction, flashes of knowledge, brief forms of literature. The alphabetic constraint, a lever to the imaginary, liberates expression and opens up the personal universe of authors - Roland Barthes par Roland Barthes, Uno y el Universo by E. La définition de l'utopie est une entreprise assez épineuse. A l'âge des Lumières, le genre acquiert des contours spécifiques et fluctuants, du passéisme au futurisme, du statisme à un dynamisme que la Révolution française va intensifier considérablement. L'espace utopique alors se politise et, à l'image de la Révolution, quitte les nues de la démocratie pour chuter dans les gouffres et les boudoirs de la conspiration. Les utopies impliquent les lecteurs dans un jeu de renversement continuel. Effectivement, c'est dans ces constants enversements que le genre se métamorphose et prend plus d'ampleur anthropologique: il n'est plus question de montrer une société idéale parce que machinale, image inverse de l'Europe, mais aussi de penser aux revers de tout idéal. . .

L'amour et le mariage sont au Moyen Âge des sujets non exempts de controverses touchant à la fois à la philosophie, à la médecine, à la littérature et à la théologie. Étudier leurs représentations au travers d'un art d'aimer et d'un traité scientifique, oeuvres du médecin et poète Évrart de Conty (mort en 1405) permet de mettre en valeur les enjeux qui les traversent. En prenant le partie de la philosophie au détriment de la théologie, en répondant aux attentes de ses jeunes lecteurs--concilier sexualité et amour, en prenant appui sur les réalités et règles sociales--mariage bien ancré dans les moeurs, poids de l'honneur--et les règles morales aristotéliciennes, Évrart de Conty propose une synthèse fondée sur la recherche de la raison et de la mesure, l'amour entrant dans le «dessein de Nature» socle de la réflexion de l'auteur. Ces différentes influences permettent de dresser un tableau nuancé des représentations d'Évrart de Conty: médecine, héritage courtois et règles sociales nourrisent l'image des femmes à la fois mères et jeunes fines pudiques, inférieures aux hommes dont les apanages sont la raison, la poursuite du savoir et la bienséance. En raison des nombreuses influences, normatives, sociales, médicales et philosophiques qui traversent ses répresentations, l'analyse des écrits d'Évrart de Conty montre des prises de position et parfois des contradictions, enjeux liés d'une part à la relation entre discours théologique et discours philosophique, d'autre part à la relation entre pratiques sociales et discours philosophie et/ou religieux. Ainsi, analyser les représentations de l'amour chez Évrart de Conty permet de mieux saisir les enjeux liés aux questions du genre, du mariage, et des relations entre théologie, philosophie, médecine et pratique.

La question de l’ontologie s’est cristallisée en philosophie de la musique autour de la notion d’œuvre, mais il est possible de centrer le raisonnement sur d’autres objets, tels que la formation instrumentale ou le genre musical. Il est ainsi possible de construire une ontologie du quatuor à cordes. Le quatuor est à la fois une formation, un genre né à l’époque classique et un ensemble de quatre musiciens, ces trois niveaux sémantiques constituent les éléments fondamentaux de ce système. La formation est une instrumentation cristallisée, plus techniquement, elle est une structure des moyens d’exécution devenue autonome, potentiellement séparable de la structure sonore pure qui lui était adjointe dans les premières œuvres pour ces instruments. Il s’est formé, au fil des ans et des œuvres, une réalité quatuor à cordes ontologiquement dense. Cette densité ontologique s’explique en partie parce qu’un genre a découlé de cette formation. Le genre « quatuor à cordes » a un fonctionnement historique qui peut être comparé à celui des autres grands genres de la musique savante occidentale, grâce à deux concepts : la cristallisation et la plasticité. Tout genre oscille en effet entre ces deux tendances antagonistes : la cristallisation qui transforme l’inédit, le nouveau et l’occasionnel en norme, règle et tradition et la plasticité qui, elle, pousse à l’innovation, à l’exploration et à la recherche compositionnelle. Le quatuor à cordes n’est pas un genre paradigmatique, il est exceptionnel, puisque son histoire montre un équilibre spécifique entre une forte plasticité et une forte cristallisation. Si la formation peut être définie en termes d’autonomisation d’une structure des moyens d’exécution, le genre, lui, gagne à être pensé comme une réunion d’archi-structures. Une dernière partie est consacrée au corps et au geste musicien. Il s’agit alors de voir si les outils conceptuels platonistes permettent de penser les réalités plus concrètes, physiques et matérielles, du quatuor. Tout comme l’équilibre dialogique des quatre voix est une caractéristique essentielle du quatuor à cordes, le dialogue entre les analyses conceptuelles, les développements historiques, les observations esthétiques et les études musicologiques constitue la spécificité de ce travailThe aim of this thesis is to build an ontology of the string quartet. The designation ‘string quartet’ can refer to three different meanings: a group of four musical instruments (formation), a genre, or a group of four musicians who play together. In musicology, a string quartet is distinguished by the homogeneity of the timbres, the individuality of voices, the quaternity and the specific dialogism of the voices. This work proposes to describe these three semantic levels and their essential characteristics, hence a wide selected corpus: Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Reicha, Bartók, Schönberg, Feldman, F.Baschet amongst others. The first part consists of an ontology of the instrument formation and shows that a quartet is a “structure of performing means” which became autonomous with regard to the “pure structure” as defined by Jerrold Levinson. From that point of view, the string quartet is a reliable paradigm to think of the birth of other formations and their historical developments. The second part consists in constructing an ontology of the genre and demonstrates that the historical evolution of the string quartet is not paradigmatic but exemplary; and that its development is determined by a balance between plasticity and crystallisation. The final part examines the ontological limits of the string quartet: on the one hand, the timbre, and on the other, the musicians’ bodies through specific physical gestures. This thesis, therefore, aims to develop an ontological system that is characterised by its different essential elements, its specific rules (plasticity versus crystallisation), and its limits. These philosophical analyses not only relate to existing musicological research, but also involve a consideration of dance performance, film and various other artistic works

Dans son œuvre, le bas côtoie le haut, le masculin s’incorpore au féminin et inversement, l’envers se frotte à l’endroit, le religieux fréquente le sexuel. Notre thèse, intitulée « Jean Genet ou les revers du genre », examine comment l’auteur met en scène une poétique de l’ambiguïté à travers un polymorphisme sexuel. Le point de départ de cette recherche montre, au plan de la représentation, comment le dramaturge, à travers des figures travesties et androgynes, produit du jeu et de l’écart identitaire dans sa construction de l’image sexuée. La démarche choisie s’inscrit dans une approche déconstructionniste qui permet d’établir une critique du système paradigmatique des normes. Dans la première partie, l’image et le jeu sur le matériau visuel occupent une place centrale. La deuxième partie montre comment le dispositif théâtral est construit sur un modèle de surveillance qui questionne le statut du spectateur. In his work, the low brushes against the high, the masculine blends within the feminine —and vice versa—, the sexual flirts with the religious, and opposites mingle. This dissertation, « Jean Genet ou le revers du genre », (Jean Genet or the other side of gender), demonstrates that Genet’s dramatic representation of sexual polymorphism paves its way toward a poetics of ambiguity. First, this study shows how the androgynous and transvestite fictional figures that the playwright brings onto the stage embody the distortion and queerness of the sexualized image he has in mind. The deconstructionist framework within which this research is carried out establishes a criticism of the normative binary system. It begins by focusing on the playful imaginary aspects of the visual element of Genet’s dramatic representation. Secondly, it demonstrates that his theatrical conception relies on a model of surveillance that questions the status of the spectator. Then, the third part of this study gives a more precise definition of what is envisioned here as the expression of a « polysexual », aesthetics, constructing on stage a circulation of sexual, social and imaginary identities through the manipulation and distortion of scenic images. This study then concludes with an analysis of the way in which Genet goes beyond these dramatic games to establish his identity politics and aesthetics as social and cultural constructs. The author seizes the metamorphic quality of identity, bringing the disconnectedness of the subject to the forefront by doing and undoing gender. Jean Genet’s unclassifiable body of work escapes traditional literary categorizations, disturbing us as it interrogates our humanity and exposes the fluidity of each of our identities. Cette thèse part des difficultés inhérentes à une approche antinaturaliste pour aborder la dimension biologique des corps sexués. “On ne naît pas femme, on le devient” : mais qu'en est-il des corps ? Les technologies biomédicales investissent la chair selon des modalités qui échappent aux grilles d'analyses matérialiste et butlérienne. Faut-il y voir une réfutation du constructivisme, la revanche d'un socle biologique – hormonal, génétique, moléculaire – primant sur les effets anatomiques de la socialisation, comme le suggèrent les partisan·e·s d'un material turn féministe ? À partir d'une analyse de l'évolution de la notion de nature, définie comme "vie elle-même" depuis la révolution moléculaire de la biologie, cette thèse propose une autre interprétation, en définissant les technologies biomédicales comme des technologies de pouvoir relevant d’une biopolitique moléculaire de genre. This thesis interrogates the difficulties inherent to anti-naturalist approaches in order to address the biological dimension of sexed bodies. “One is not born a woman, one becomes one”, but is this also true for the body? The analytical frames of materialist or deconstructivist feminism cannot cease the modalities through which biomedical technologies invest the flesh. Do biomedical technologies make constructivist approaches obsolete through the revenge of a biological – hormonal, genetic, molecular – ground that tops the anatomical effects of socialization? Partisans of a feminist “material turn” seem to think so. After analyzing how the molecular biology revolution changes the very concept of nature in defining it as “life itself”, I offer an alternative interpretation by defining biomedical technologies as technologies of power that stem from a molecular biopolitics of gender. Instead of overturning constructivist perspectives, these new social mediations (residing on a new epistemic paradigm) help understanding a shift in what has been seen as the limits of gender. This shift creates unprecedented identities, experiences and subjectivities of gender. In exposing the coordinates of the biomedical apparatus, this comparative study between disciplinary techniques and molecular biopolitics of gender pleads for a renewed anti-naturalist critique that takes the form of a critique of technology in order to allow for a collective appropriation of biomedical technologies

Since the crystallization of the matter of music criticism, which occurs in the English, German, and French artistic academic environment, at the confluence between musicology and publicity, with the explosion of the press, from the 19th century and especially of journalism, to this day, the musical phenomenon continues to impose the need for its explanation, misinterpretation through all the channels of public communication. The musical specificity concentrated in content and vocabulary, in the publicity genres to be attacked by the novice musicologists, is in interconnection with the procedures confirmed in a science parallel to musicology, but which dominates and interferes with all the modern human existential sectors –marketing. Excessive freedom annihilates, abolishes any rule, but we know that a professional, valid speech must correspond to some clear, accepted and observed rules. One way to follow would be the strategy of apparent conversion into the modernity without rules, but with an even more strict consistency in following the rules imposed and verified in time from musicology, journalism, philosophy.

The article covers ideas of public life in ancient Greek philosophy having given rise to discussion on the necessity of separation and rapprochement of public and private spheres. This study rests upon the analysis of ‘publicness’ and ‘privacy’ in the philosophical conceptions of such authors as J. Habermas who deems ‘publicness’ as communication, and H. Arendt who refers to ‘publicness’ as the polis-based worldview. Plato’s dialogue ‘The State’, which can be deemed as the first-ever example of a utopian text, provides us with the most detailed and consistent instance of criticism of the private sphere, the necessity to merge it into public life to create society. Only in this way could society become a model of an ideal polis leading to the common good. The utopism of Plato’s pattern determines characteristics of the entire utopian genre arising from the idea of the individual merging with the state, and the private sphere merging into the public sphere. Plato’s ideal polis is contrasted with the concepts of the state formed by Modern Age liberal thought, which have largely determined modern views on the division of these spheres, leading to a revision of the utopian projects and a change in the relationship between the private and the public therein. A comparison of various utopian texts results in finding out that the utopian idea of the refusal of the private sphere of life in favour of serving the common good contradicts the modern ideal of freedom, which is the reason for its criticism and for the increasing number of texts with an anti-utopian character.

Prima facie, so far it has been and still is impossible to offer a proper study of the literary manifestation of covid19 – the epidemic is not quite over yet; one doesn't have yet an historical perspective of it; writing, and moreover publishing, require time. However, there are early sprouts of writing on covid19. We shall focus on Dana Freibach-Heifetz's book, In the Desert of Things ("Numbers, Deuteronomy"), which was written in Hebrew during the first two months of the epidemic (2-3/2020). The book is composed of 113 fragments in various genres, which spread a fan of voices, sights and feelings of life under the epidemic – from everyday details (e.g. the engagement with food) to more cultural and philosophical layers (like concepts of inside and outside), combining realism with a world of dreams and fantasy. These micro-stories create a collage of images that captures the new reality. The book was published in two versions: one is only textual, and the other incudes 36 color photographs by the artist Yoram Kupermintz, that create a rich dialogue with the texts. The paper examines the relation between the stylistic charac-terizations of this book – the form of fragments, various genres, and the combination of the texts with visual images – and its nature as a book which was written right in the eye of the Covid's storm. Furthermore, it exposes the thematic means that literary writing in a time of epidemic can use, in order to confront the trauma of such an extreme experience: myths; fresh glance at daily life, humor and fantasy; alongside a critical examination of the ars-poetics of such a writing. This paper is a rare collaboration of the author, who is also a philosopher, and a literary researcher. Together, they aim to bring new perspectives of literature under Covid 19 in particular, and life in a time of epidemic in general, and the unique attributes it brings.

The paper focuses on the interlacement of literary and iconographic elements by displaying an innovatory philological and stylistic approach, from a comparative perspective, in thematizing multilingual translational and adaptive aspects, ranging across Bernard Berenson's diaristic and epistolary corpus, in conjunction with his works on Italian visual culture. This interweaving gives occasion to the elaboration of multilinguistic textual influences and their verbo-visual artistic representations deduced from his innovative interpretative readings in the domain of world literature in modern times. Such analysis of the discourse of theoretical and literary nature, and of the pictoricity, refers to Bernard Berenson's multilingual considerations about canonical authors in English, Italian, French, German language, belonging to the Neoclassical and Romantic period, as well as to the contemporary era, as conceptualized in his autobiographical works, in correlation with his writings on Italian figurative art. The scope of this presentation is to discern and articulate Berenson's aesthetic ideas evoking literary and artistic modernity, that are infused with crucial notions of translational theory and conveyed through the methodology of close reading and comprising at the same time, in an omnicomprehensive manner, a plurality of tendencies intrinsic to social paradigms of cultural studies. Unexplored premises reflecting Berenson's vision of Italian culture, most notably of a visual stamp, will be analyzed through author's understandings of such adaptive translations or volumes to be subsequently translated in Italian, and through their intertwined intertextual applications, significantly contributing to further critical and hermeneutic reception thereof. Particular attention is drawn to its instancing in the field of Romantic literary production (Emerson, Byron), originally underscoring the specificities of each literary genre and expressive mode, of the narrative, lyric or theatrical nature, as well as concomitantly involving parallel notions as adapted variants within visual arts, and in such a way expressing theoretical views pertainable to Italian artworks too. Other analogous elements relevant to literary expression in the most varied cultural sectors such as philosophy, music, civilisational history (Goethe, Hegel, Kant, Wagner, Chateaubriand, Rousseau, Mme de Staël, Taine) are furnished, as well as the examples of the resonances of non-western cultures, with the objective of exploring the effect among readership bringing also to the renewal of Italian tradition.

"Throughout the second half of the seventeen and the eighteenth centuries, tea remained an expensive exotic drink for Britain that “preserved” its overseas nature. It was only in the Victorian era (1837-1903) that tea became the English national drink. The process attracts the attention of academics from various humanities. Despite an impressive amount of research in the UK, in Russia for a long time (in the Soviet years) the English tradition of tea drinking was considered a philistine curiosity unworthy of academic analysis. Accordingly, the English tea party in Russia has become a leader in the number of stereotypes. The issue became important for academics only at the turn of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Currently, we can observe significant growth of interest in this area in Russia and an expansion of research into tea drinking with regard to the history of society, philosophy and culture. Despite this fact, there are still serious lacunas in the research of English tea parties in the Victorian era. One of them is related to the analysis of visualization of this practice in Victorian painting. It is a proven fact that tea parties are one of the most popular topics in English arts of the nineteenth and the twentieth centuries. No other art school in the world referred to the topic so frequently: painting formed the visual image of the English tea party, consolidated, propagandized and spread ideas of the national tea tradition. However, this aspect has been reflected neither in British nor Russian studies. Being descriptive and analytical, the present research refers to the principles of historicism, academic reliability and objectivity, helping to determine the principal trends and social and cultural features and models in Britain during the period. The present research is based on the analysis of more than one hundred genre paintings by British artists of the period. The paintings reflect the process of creating a special “truly English” material and visual context of tea drinking, which displaced all “oriental allusions” from this ceremony, to create a specific entourage and etiquette of tea consumption, and set nationally determined patterns of behavior at the tea table. The analysis shows the presence of English traditions of tea drinking visualization. The canvases of British artists, unlike the Russian ones, never reflect social problems: tea parties take place against the background of either well-furnished interiors or beautiful landscapes, being a visual embodiment of Great Britain as a “paradise of the prosperous bourgeoisie”, manifesting the bourgeois virtues. Special attention is paid to the role of the women in this ritual, the theme of the relationship between mothers and children. A unique English painting theme, which has not been manifested in any other art school in the world, is a children’s tea party. Victorian paintings reflect the processes of democratization of society: representatives of the lower classes appear on canvases. Paintings do not only reflect the norms and ideals that existed in the society, but also provide the set patterns for it."

Поэт, был подлинным эрудитом, знатоком не только коранических текстов, истории, античной и мусульманской философии, но и астрономии. Данная статья – попытка проследить ориентальную символику образов Гянджеви в одной из творческих интерпретаций поэмы «Семь красавиц», через призму хореографического и сценографического искусства. Метод исследования – семиотический анализ, объект исследования – балет «Семь красавиц», объединивший достижения современной европейской хореографии и средневековую восточную поэзию с присущей ей образностью, поставленный на музыку азербайджанского композитора Кары Караева. Композитор К. Караев активно использовал самобытные музыкальные традиции Азербайджана (музыкальные гармонии, мелодика ашугов и элементы народных азербайджанских ладов), сочетая их с европейскими мелодиями и ритмами. Анализируя фильм-балет «Семь красавиц» (1982, режиссер Федор Слидовкер) и новую постановку театра оперы и балета им. М.Ф. Ахундова (2011), автор прослеживает трансформацию либретто и предлагает собственное прочтение символики метафоричного произведения классика Низами Гянджеви. Поиски истины, красоты и справедливости всегда были уделом мыслящего человека. Восточные поэты воспевали этот поиск, этот долгий и трудный путь к истине, идеальному миру. Придворные интриги, роскошь дворца и повседневная жизнь простого народа, благородство, коварство и любовь переплелись в этой метафоричной восточной притче, которая легла в основу нескольких интерпретаций балета «Семь красавиц». Несмотря на большую степень условности, свойственной этому жанру сценического искусства, фильм-балет характеризуется драматургической многоплановостью, органическим сплетением развивающихся сюжетных линий, динамической взаимосвязью социального и лирико-психологического конфликтов. Трансформация либретто балета «Семь красавиц» свидетельствует о новом, более глубоком прочтении, приближению его к идейно-философской метафоричной концепции оригинальной поэмы Низами Гянджеви, воспетому поэтом вечному поиску истины, любви и справедливости со свойственной ему ориентальной образностью. the author explores creative interpretations of the work of the humanist poet Nizami Ganjavi (XII century) from the cycle "Khamse" – "Seven beauties". The poet was a true polymath, an expert not only in Quranic texts, history, ancient and Muslim philosophy, but also in astronomy. This article is an attempt to trace the Oriental symbolism of Ganjavi's images in one of the creative interpretations of the poem "Seven beauties", through the prism of choreographic and scenographic art. The method of research is semiotic analysis, the object of research is the ballet "Seven beauties", which combines the achievements of modern European choreography and medieval Eastern poetry with its inherent imagery, set to the music of the Azerbaijani composer Gara Garayev. The composer G. Garayev actively used the original musical traditions of Azerbaijan (musical harmonies, melodies of ashugs and elements of Azerbaijani folk modes), combining them with European melodies and rhythms. Analyzing the film-ballet "Seven beauties" (1982, directed by Fyodor Slidovker) and the new production of the Opera and ballet theater named after M. F. Akhundov (2011), the author traces the transformation of the libretto and offers his own interpretation of the symbolism of the metaphorical work of the classic Nizami Ganjavi. The search for truth, beauty, and justice has always been the province of the thinking man. Eastern poets sang of this search, this long and difficult path to the truth, the ideal world. Court intrigues, the luxury of the Palace and the daily life of the common people, nobility, guile and love are intertwined in this metaphorical Eastern parable, which formed the basis of several interpretations of the ballet "Seven beauties". Despite the great degree of conventionality inherent in this genre of stage art, the film-ballet is characterized by a dramatic diversity, an organic interweaving of developing storylines, and a dynamic relationship between social and lyrical-psychological conflicts. The transformation of the libretto of the ballet "Seven beauties" indicates a new, deeper reading, approaching it to the ideological and philosophical metaphorical concept of the original poem by Nizami Ganjavi, the poet's eternal search for truth, love and justice with its characteristic Oriental imagery.

Abstract. The article clarifies specific concepts of persuasion in media texts; describes new techniques of media influence based on materials of online publications; shows the role of expressive means of language and emotions in visual communication. In social communication, persuasive logos refer to meaningful words and thoughts conveyed through mass media and logically perceived as a reasonable persuasion to proper actions based on the principles of morality, ethics, and culture; informational and influential accents. In modern science (Philosophy, Psychology, Rhetoric, Linguistics), logos has acquired not only new meanings, but also has become an important concept of rational expression of free ideas, meanings, reflections. From this perspective, new media serve as the most concentrated source of logosphere and eidosphere creation, which should be thoroughly studied and analyzed every day. The research on multimedia texts, genre diversity, new platforms, and online publications has significantly contributed to the Media Studies. Techniques of persuasive communication, methods of argumentation, and verbal tools form a separate area of the research within the field. Unlike manipulation, persuasion is the conscious use of written or spoken language, interactive visualization, and infographics to influence someone’s beliefs, views, or actions; gain someone’s support, approve the suggested ways of behavior, intentions, etc. Means of persuasion in media texts serve as logical information accents aimed at the proper perception of the corresponding meanings. In general, factors of persuasion are to influence the masses and the motivation of their actions, modify views, and form public opinion. In journalism, these are meaningful words, thoughts, principles of high-quality narrative with the use of convincing arguments, facts and, most importantly, positive intentions for the readers. Persuasive media texts exclude manipulation of public opinion, trust and people’s inclination to perceive doctrines imposed on them.
