Abstract (sommario):
Abstract This paper presents a review and assessment of four nontraditional similarity metrics that can be applied to hydrological and meteorological data. These metrics are 1) the uncentered correlation coefficient, 2) the Hodgkin–Richards index, 3) the Petke index, and 4) the Wang–Bovik index. The first metric has been widely used in hydrometeorology, and the other three have been proposed in other disciplines for similarity analysis. It is demonstrated that these similarity metrics, in their original formulations, either do not actually have the purported advantage over the traditional Pearson correlation coefficient or are not suitable for some hydrometeorological applications. They are reformulated in this study to address these deficiencies. The resulting modified metrics are unitless, bounded, and proportional to the Pearson correlation coefficient, and three of them have the confirmed advantage of explicitly penalizing for differences in the mean and/or in the variance. Two application examples are used to demonstrate the applicability of these similarity metrics in hydrometeorology. A metavalidation model and a graphical tool (Taylor diagram) are used to evaluate the performances of these similarity metrics. In a case study of analog analysis, the Wang–Bovik index stands out as the best metric for simulation of the human perception of similarity between two-dimensional patterns, whereas the modified Petke index and the traditional root-mean-square distance may perform slightly better than the others in the regions with a very large difference between the variances.

Abstract (sommario):
The present study presents first tentative attempt to determine the quantitative ethnobotanical profile of plants of Tehsil Razar, District Swabi. Relative frequency citation (RFC) and Use value (UV) of plant resources were calculated. Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC) was calculated to find any significance between RFC and UV. A total of 60 plants from 37 families had ethnobotanical importance in the investigated area. It included 1 pteridophyte, 13 monocots and 46 dicots. Quantitative results showed that 24 species with the highest RFC value of 1, were important in the area in terms of their uses. Acacia modesta, Acacia nilotica sub sp. nilotica and Ailanthus altissima were popular and common medicinal plants in the study area with highest use value of 6.07, 5.60 and 3.40 respectively. The Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC) between RFC and UV was 0.01 with P value well below than 1% which demonstrate a highly significant correlation between RFC and UV.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractObjective:The purpose of the study was to assess the validity of a 52-item semiquantitative food-frequency questionnaire (FFQ) by comparing it with multiple 24-hour dietary recalls.Design:Three non-consecutive 24-hour dietary recalls and one FFQ were administered over a one-month period.Setting:Four communities of El Progreso, Guatemala.Subjects:Seventy-three individuals aged 22–55 years. Results:Intakes of energy and other nutrients as measured by the FFQ were higher than intakes measured by 24-hour recalls. Energy was overestimated by 361 kcal, and nutrient overestimates were particularly great for vitamin C and iron. Pearson correlation coefficients for crude energy and nutrients intakes ranged from 0.64 for energy to 0.12 for vitamin C. Exact agreement for both methods (measured by the concordance correlation coefficient) ranged from 0.59 (fat) to 0.06 (vitamin C). Pearson correlation coefficients for energy-adjusted nutrients ranged from 0.59 (carbohydrates) to 0.11 (thiamin). Pearson correlation coefficients for the proportion of total energy derived from specific foods ranged from 0.59 (tortillas) to 0.01 (sugared beverages). Cross-classification of quartiles of crude nutrient intakes for both methods indicated that <11% were grossly misclassified; after adjusting for energy intake, <13% were grossly misclassified. Conclusions:This FFQ provides good measures of energy and macronutrient intakes and a reasonably reliable measure of micronutrient intake, indicating its suitability for comparing exposures within a study population in reference to heath-related endpoints. Our results highlight the need to adapt any FFQ to specific cultural needs – in this case, the Guatemalan ‘core foods’ (tortilla, bread and beans), for which inter-individual variability in intake is high.

Abstract (sommario):
Racing performance of winners of European classic races and of two-year-old horses was compared on the basis of two classic races: 1 600–1 609 m (one mile) and 2 100–2 414 m (derby). The horses included in our comparisons were winners of classic races held in England, France and Ireland in 1993–2002. The performance of the winners of classic races was based on the international classification of the performance of three-year-old horses (Classifications internationales) in kg and lb (rating) and used as the characteristics of performance. Comparisons of the correlations between the performance of winners of the most important classic races and their performance rating as two-year-olds were based on the results of 126 winners of 13 classic races. We calculated Pearson’s correlation. The correlation coefficients of all the groups concerned were low (r = 0.109–0.325). The correlation coefficient of racing performances was significant (P < 0.05) only in the classic mile mare race.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Background: We previously reported that the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was decreased among survivors of unilateral, non-metastatic, non-syndromic Wilms tumor (WT) treated with whole abdomen radiation therapy (WART) compared to controls, but not compared to unirradiated WT survivors (Pediatr Blood Cancer 2020;67:e28271). The impact of sex on estimates of kidney function among adult survivors of WT has not been well-documented. Methods: We clinically evaluated male and female WT survivors with creatinine and cystatin C, calculated eGFR using the Chronic Kidney Disease - Epidemiology (CKD-EPI) equations with and without cystatin C and measured 99mTc diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA) plasma clearance. WT survivors consisted of 20 treated with unilateral nephrectomy (UN), non-nephrotoxic chemotherapy (NNC) and whole abdomen radiation therapy (WART) (mean - 20.2 Gray (Gy); standard deviation (SD) - 9.12 Gy), and 20 treated with UN, no radiation therapy, and NNC. Correlations between 99mTc DTPA clearance and eGFR were calculated. Results: Among female WT survivors, none of the eGFR calculations was statistically significantly correlated with 99mTc DTPA clearance. Among male WT survivors, 99mTc DTPA clearance correlated well with eGFR calculations that included creatinine. Results are shown in the Table. Conclusions: Among female survivors of unilateral, non-metastatic, non-syndromic WT who have undergone UN, eGFR is poorly correlated with 99mTc DTPA clearance. Evaluation of treatment-related changes in body composition may provide insight into these results. Abstract (sommario):
Abstract. We present two-dimensional scanning Multi-AXis Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (MAX-DOAS) observations of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and formaldehyde (HCHO) in Munich. Vertical columns and vertical distribution profiles of aerosol extinction coefficient, NO2 and HCHO are retrieved from the 2D MAX-DOAS observations. The measured surface aerosol extinction coefficients and NO2 mixing ratios derived from the retrieved profiles are compared to in situ monitoring data, and the surface NO2 mixing ratios show a good agreement with in situ monitoring data with a Pearson correlation coefficient (R) of 0.91. The aerosol optical depths (AODs) show good agreement as well (R = 0.80) when compared to sun photometer measurements. Tropospheric vertical column densities (VCDs) of NO2 and HCHO derived from the MAX-DOAS measurements are also used to validate Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) and TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) satellite observations. Monthly averaged data show a good correlation; however, satellite observations are on average 30 % lower than the MAX-DOAS measurements. Furthermore, the MAX-DOAS observations are used to investigate the spatiotemporal characteristic of NO2 and HCHO in Munich. Analysis of the relations between aerosol, NO2 and HCHO shows higher aerosol-to-HCHO ratios in winter, which reflects a longer atmospheric lifetime of secondary aerosol and HCHO during winter. The analysis also suggests that secondary aerosol formation is the major source of these aerosols in Munich.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper focuses on finding a lasting solution to the reason why offline compressor washing of unit 13 at Geregu Power plc in Ajaokuta does not restore power output lost due to fouling back to the rated output, as is the case for the other two (2) units in the plant and for several reported cases published in the literature. Monitoring of parameters closely related to the power output was carried out to find out the root causes for the low output recovery after offline compressor wash and came up with a successful diagnosis by interrelating GT13 wash effluent test results of parameters like conductivity, turbidity, and heavy metal concentration with parameters of two (2) other turbines in the plant. Using statistical tools like the mean and Pearson correlation coefficient for the four-year period, the mean comparative result indicates that the conductivity of GT13 was higher than that of GT11 and GT12 by 50% and 79%, respectively. The turbidity of GT13 was 570% and 700% higher than that of GT11 and GT12. The Pearson correlation coefficients of GT13 effluent conductivity, turbidity, and silica content relative to the power output recovery after wash were (-89.2%), (-64.4%), and (-77.3%), respectively, and the covariance of each of the three parameters relative to one another was high. Effluent Ph as a factor was discarded based on its 0% linear correlation coefficient with the output. The conclusion reached is that the co-linear relationship between conductivity, silica content, and effluent turbidity is responsible for GT13's low output recovery after the wash.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Aim To validate the Slovenian version (SOC-13-SVN) of Sense of Coherence 13-item instrument (SOC-13) in Slovenian multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. Methods A consecutive 134 Slovenian MS patients were enrolled in a cross-sectional study in 2013. The reliability of the SOC-13-SVN was assessed for internal consistency by Cronbach’s alpha coefficient (α), dimensionality by the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and criterion validity by Pearson correlation coefficient (r) between SOC-13-SVN global score and MSQOL-54 composite scores – Mental Health Composite score (MHC) and Physical Health Composite score (PHC). Results For the SOC-13-SVN instrument as a whole, internal consistency was high (αtotal=0.88) while it was low for three subscales (αcomprehensibility=0.79; αmanageability=0.66; αmeaningfulness=0.69). The results of the CFA confirmed a three-factor structure with good fit (RMSEA=0.059, CFI=0.953, SRMR=0.065), however, the correlations between the factors were very high (rcomprehensibility/manageability=0.938; rcomprehensibility/meaningfulness=0.811; rmanageability/meaningfulness=0.930). The criterion validity analysis showed a moderate positive strength of relationship between SOC-13-SVN global score and both MSQOL-54 composite scores (MHC: r=0.597, p<0.001; PHC: r=0.437, p<0.001). Conclusion Analysis of some psychometric properties confirmed that this instrument is a reliable and valid tool for use in Slovenian MS patients. Despite the three-dimensional structure of the instrument, the use of the global summary score is encouraged due to the low reliability of the subscale scores and high correlations between them.

Abstract (sommario):
In the marginal analysis of clustered data, where the marginal distribution of interest is that of a typical observation within a typical cluster, analysis by reweighting has been introduced as a useful tool for estimating parameters of these marginal distributions. Such reweighting methods have foundation in within-cluster resampling schemes that marginalize potential informativeness due to cluster size or within-cluster covariate distribution, to which reweighting methods are asymptotically equivalent. In this paper, we introduce a reweighting scheme for the marginal analysis of clustered data that generalizes prior reweighting methods, with a particular application to measuring bivariate correlation in unpaired clustered data, in which observations of two random variables are not naturally paired at the within-cluster level. We develop unpaired clustered data analogs of well-known product moment correlation coefficients (Pearson, Spearman, phi), as well as the polyserial coefficient for measuring correlation between one discrete and one continuous variable. We evaluate the performance of these coefficients via a simulation study and demonstrate their use by finding no statistically significant association between dental caries at an early age and dental fluorosis at age 13 using a large dental dataset.

Abstract (sommario):
Mangrove ecosystems have an important role in coastal areas. One of the roles of mangroves is to protect the shoreline and prevent seawater intrusion. Molluscs are one of the mangrove association biota whose lives are influenced by the presence of mangrove forests. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the diversity of molluscs and the relationship between mangrove density and limiting molluscs to the coastal mangrove area of Gerupuk Beach, Central Lombok. Sampling of molluscs used the quadrate sampling method with purposive sampling by taking into account the mangrove species found in the observation plots. The data obtained were then analyzed with the charisma index, associations, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The results of this study obtained 13 species of Molluscs consisting of 12 species of the Gastropod family and 1 species of the Bivalvia family. The Brachyura diversity index at the research station was moderate with a value between 1.48–1.88. Furthermore, there were 8 species of Molluscs associated with 4 species of mangrove from 13 species of Molluscs found. The linear regression equation y = 0.1429x + 0.0007 with a Pearson correlation coefficient (r) of 0.57 indicates a strong relationship between the independent variable (x) mangrove density and the dependent variable (y) exposure to molluscs. The conclusion of this study is that the diversity of molluscs in the mangrove area of Gerupuk Beach is included in the moderate category and there is a significant relationship between mangrove density and mollusk attractions.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose. Metrics of the brain network architecture derived from resting-state fMRI have been shown to provide physiologically meaningful markers of IQ in children with epilepsy. However, traditional measures of functional connectivity (FC), specifically the Pearson correlation, assume a dominant linear relationship between BOLD time courses; this assumption may not be valid. Mutual information is an alternative measure of FC which has shown promise in the study of complex networks due to its ability to flexibly capture association of diverse forms. We aimed to compare network metrics derived from mutual information-defined FC to those derived from traditional correlation in terms of their capacity to predict patient-level IQ. Materials and Methods. Patients were retrospectively identified with the following: (1) focal epilepsy; (2) resting-state fMRI; and (3) full-scale IQ by a neuropsychologist. Brain network nodes were defined by anatomic parcellation. Parcellation was performed at the size threshold of 350 mm2, resulting in networks containing 780 nodes. Whole-brain, weighted graphs were then constructed according to the pairwise connectivity between nodes. In the traditional condition, edges (connections) between each pair of nodes were defined as the absolute value of the Pearson correlation coefficient between their BOLD time courses. In the mutual information condition, edges were defined as the mutual information between time courses. The following metrics were then calculated for each weighted graph: clustering coefficient, modularity, characteristic path length, and global efficiency. A machine learning algorithm was used to predict the IQ of each individual based on their network metrics. Prediction accuracy was assessed as the fractional variation explained for each condition. Results. Twenty-four patients met the inclusion criteria (age: 8–18 years). All brain networks demonstrated expected small-world properties. Network metrics derived from mutual information-defined FC significantly outperformed the use of the Pearson correlation. Specifically, fractional variation explained was 49% (95% CI: 46%, 51%) for the mutual information method; the Pearson correlation demonstrated a variation of 17% (95% CI: 13%, 19%). Conclusion. Mutual information-defined functional connectivity captures physiologically relevant features of the brain network better than correlation. Clinical Relevance. Optimizing the capacity to predict cognitive phenotypes at the patient level is a necessary step toward the clinical utility of network-based biomarkers.

Abstract (sommario):
This study compares the impact of five meteorological variables on the diametric growth of Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis Barrett & Golfari in Vilhena, Rondônia. One thousand nine hundred sixty-eight trees were evaluated and classified at different ages: 600 trees were one year old; 600 trees were two years old; 768 trees were 13 years. The diameter measurement at the soil level (SL) was conducted in young stands between one and two years old. In the stand with 13 years old, the diameter was measured at 1.3 m (DCH). Using a Pressler borer, 50 increment cores were removed at DCH to measure the tree rings in LINTAB™ 6. The diametric growth was evaluated through the Periodic Increment (PI) for young stands and Current Annual Increment (CAI) for adult stands. The following variables were considered: average temperature (°C), precipitation (mm), solar radiation (Kj m-²), real evapotranspiration (mm), and maximum relative humidity (%). The Pearson Correlation Coefficient (r) proposed by Callegari-Jacques and the coefficient of variation (CV%) were used to establish the relationship between growth and meteorological variables. For young stands, the variables with higher positive correlation were real evapotranspiration and maximum relative humidity. However, the variable with a higher positive correlation in adult stands was average temperature, demonstrating a strong correlation until the sixth year of the species.

Abstract. This article broaches the issue of the propagation of transient signals in gigahertz transverse electromagnetic (GTEM) cells. As a representative for transient signals a damped sinusoidal (DS) is used with three different mid-band frequencies. The signal transmission of the DS in the GTEM1250 is qualified and discussed on the basis of the Pearson correlation coefficient (Pcc). The Pcc gives an overview of the signal transmission quality for all measuring points within the testvolume and signal distortions can be identified. A 100 MHz DS is weakly distorted in several measuring points. The Pcc at those points decreases and a signal shape variance can be assumed. Furthermore inhomogeneities of the GTEM1250 caused by the cell door can be identified.

Abstract Seedlings belonging to 36 families from a partial diallel mating between 11 parents of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) were cultivated for three growth periods in growth chambers at five nutrient levels in the range 5-45 mg N/liter. The ratios between N:K:P were always 100:65:13. Several growth and growth component characters were assessed, mainly during the third growth period. Additive genetic correlations between these characters and growth of other full-sibs from the same parents assessed at ages 10-28 in two adjacent field trials in southeastern Sweden were estimated. Estimates of the additive genetic correlations were obtained by calculating Pearson product moments of phenotypic values adjusted for nongenetic effects. Tests of independence between the genetic values in the phytotron and in the field trials were performed using rank correlation of the estimated GCA values. The lowest nutrient level gave low or negative genetic correlation coefficients with field data. For the four higher nutrient levels the genetic correlation coefficients between growth chamber data and field data increased with age of the field material. The strongest correlations were obtained with growth increments between years 13-23 and 23-28 (0.8-1.0). The standard errors of the estimates of the genetic correlation coefficients mostly varied between 0.2-0.5. FOR. SCI. 39(1):95-117.

Abstract (sommario):
In order to evaluate the loadings of some agricultural soils with heavy metals, field studies were made across the Iasi County. The heavy metals concentration range were as follows: 15.4 - 36 mg/kg (Cu), 49 - 115 mg/kg (Zn), 7.4 - 20.4 mg/kg (Pb), 0.13 - 0.43 mg/kg (Cd), 6.9 - 13.15 mg/kg (Co), 25 - 100 mg/kg (Ni) and 463 - 798 mg/kg (Mn), respectively. The median of the heavy metals decreased in the next order: Mn (589) ] Zn (67) ] Ni (46) ]Cu (22,1)]Pb (12.1)]Co (10.2)]Cd (0.32). The studied heavy metal median was higher than the same metal median from European soils. According to the Romanian legislation, the normal values are exceeding in 13% the samples for Zn, 73% for Cu, 93% for Ni, and in one case, the value of Ni exceeded the alert threshold (75 mg/kg). A direct relationship between Cu, Pb, Zn and Co was noticed, which may indicate a common source of these metals. The Pearson`s coefficients of these elements were: Pb-Cu (0.863), Cu-Zn (0.826), Pb-Zn (0.74), Cu-Co (0.730), Pb-Co (0.703). According to the values of Pearson correlation coefficient, the significant positive correlations were identified between Cu, Zn, Pb, Co and clay content, while the same metals are highly negative correlated with CaCO3 and fine sand contents. In case of Pb, Co, and Mn no influence of agricultural activities can be detected, wich suggestes that geogenic factors control the contents of these heavy metals. The Cu content exhibited a positive correlation with total Nitrogen, while the Cd content showed a positive significant relationship only with Km content. On the other hand, the Ni content exhibited correlation with both Pm and Km concentrations. The correlations of Cu-Nt, Cd-Km, Ni-Pm, and Ni-Km could be an index of the anthropogenic input of Cd, Cu, and Ni from the use of fertilizers.

Abstract (sommario):
Context: The belt-stabilized handheld dynamometer (HHD) has been used to assess the strength of knee- and hip-muscle groups. However, few researchers have examined its reliability and validity for assessing the strength of these muscles. Objective: To evaluate the intra-examiner reliability of the belt-stabilized HHD and its validity and agreement with the isokinetic dynamometer for assessing the strength of knee- and hip-muscle groups. Design: Cross-sectional study. Setting: University laboratory. Patients or Other Participants: We evaluated 26 healthy participants (13 men, 13 women; age = 23.5 ± 2.8 years, height = 1.7 ± 0.1 m, mass = 68.6 ± 12.4 kg) in 2 sessions using the belt-stabilized HHD and an isokinetic dynamometer for maximum strength of the hip adductors, abductors, flexors, extensors, internal rotators, and external rotators and the knee flexors and extensors. Main Outcome Measure(s): We used reliability values provided by the intraclass correlation coefficient (2,3), standard error of measurement (SEM and percentage SEM), and minimal detectable change; correlation values comparing the belt-stabilized HHD and the isokinetic instrument using the Pearson correlation coefficient (r); and the mean difference in values comparing the 2 instruments using the Bland-Altman method. Results: The intrarater HHD reliability was excellent for most measurements (range = 0.80–0.96; SEM = 1.3–5.3 kilograms of force or 4.8−18.9 Nm, percentage SEM = 7.0%–22.0%, minimal detectable change = 3.6–18.8 kilograms of force or 13.2−52.4 Nm) and was moderate only for bilateral knee flexion and left hip internal rotation (intraclass correlation coefficient [2,3] = 0.62–0.66 and 0.70, respectively). Correlation with the isokinetic dynamometer was moderate to high (r = 0.60–0.90), but the absolute values did not demonstrate concordance between results using the Bland-Altman method. Conclusions: The belt-stabilized HHD measurements were reliable, and although they did not agree with those from the isokinetic dynamometer, the values were correlated for the hip- and knee-muscle groups.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Background: Cancer related fatigue (CRF) is a problem that is highly under reported, under recognized and thus, under treated. About 80% of patients receiving chemotherapy/radiotherapy experience CRF, making it the most common side effect of cancer treatment. Functional assessment of chronic illness therapy fatigue (FACIT-F) version-4 is a 13 item questionnaire that has been used to measure the level of fatigue of cancer patients during their daily activities over the past 7 days. Materials and Methods: 92 patients of age 18 years and above attending the oncology Out Patient Department (OPD) of a regional cancer center were recruited in this study and were given FACIT-F questionnaire. The relevant sociodemographic parameters were obtained from the medical records of the patients. The internal consistency of the 13 items was measured using the Cronbach′s alpha. Results: The Cronbach alpha coefficient for FACIT-F scale in our study was found to be 0.74. Kendall′s coefficient of concordance was estimated to be 0.080. The correlation between Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status and mean score of FACIT-F was studied, Pearson correlation coefficient was estimated to be 0.271 (P = 0.009). Conclusions: FACIT-F is a brief, simple, easy to administer and patient friendly tool to measure the fatigue in last 7 days. CRF should be given adequate attention from the beginning of the treatment to improve the quality of life of cancer patients.

Abstract (sommario):
PURPOSE: To identify brain dominance for language functions with DLT and correlate these results with those obtained from fMRI in patients suffering from intractable temporal lobe epilepsy. METHOD: This study reports on 13 patients who underwent pre-surgical epileptic evaluation between April and October 2004 at the Epilepsy Surgery Program, Hospital Sao Lucas, PUCRS. In DLT, dominance was assessed through a consonant-vowel task, whereas in fMRI patients performed a verb generation task. RESULTS: Our results identified a correlation between the fMRI lateralization index and the DLT ear predominance index and reply difference index (r=0.6, p=0.02; Pearson Correlation Coefficient), showing positive correlation between results obtained from fMRI and DLT. CONCLUSION: DLT was found to significantly correlate with fMRI. These findings indicate that DLT (a non-invasive procedure) could be a useful tool to evaluate language brain dominance in pre-surgical epileptic patients as it is cheaper to perform than fMRI.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Purpose The purpose of this study was to assess the understandability, actionability, and readability of online diabetes education materials. Summary This was a descriptive study that identified printable diabetes education materials through an online search. Materials were included from the following sources: national organizations with materials approved by expert panels, corporations with materials subject to FDA approval, and not-for-profit organizations with inter-professional advisory boards to approve materials. Topics included were basic knowledge of diabetes, hypoglycemia, insulin, and blood sugar goals. Materials were excluded if they were non-printable, contained active links, had a publication date prior to January 2011, were greater than 2 pages in length, or were pediatric focused. Understandability and actionability of the patient education materials were evaluated using the Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool (PEMAT). Descriptive statistics and inter-rater reliability analysis using the kappa statistic were utilized. Readability was assessed using the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level and Simple Measure of Gobbledygook (SMOG) formula. Pearson correlation coefficient was calculated to assess the relationship between reading grade level and PEMAT scores. In total, 25 websites were identified, 5 of which met the inclusion criteria; 13 patient education materials were included, PEMAT scoring revealed that 4 of these met the criteria for understandability and only 1 met the criteria for actionability. There was no correlation found between PEMAT scores and reading grade levels (Pearson correlation coefficient = −0.30, p = 0.325). Conclusion The majority of diabetes patient education materials reviewed scored poorly using the PEMAT. Future development of diabetes patient education materials should be designed with the goal of increasing understandability and actionability.

AbstractObjectiveTo assess the validity and reproducibility of a self-administered FFQ with eighty-two food items (FFQW82) for assessing the habitual diet in female adolescents.DesignThe validity of the FFQW82 for assessment of nutrient intake was evaluated by comparison with a 7 d weighed food record (7d-FRRI) reported as ‘gold standard’. Reproducibility of the FFQW82 was assessed at an interval of 1 month (test–retest method). The first survey (FFQW82 and 7d-FRRI) was conducted in April 2007 and the second FFQW82 survey was conducted in May 2007. Daily consumption of energy from eleven food groups and nine nutrients were calculated from both instruments for breakfast, lunch, dinner and the whole day. Crude and energy-adjusted Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated using log-transformed data.SettingMiddle school, Tokyo, Japan.SubjectsFemale adolescents aged 12–13 years.ResultsSixty-three female adolescents completed both surveys. The relative difference between the energy intake calculated by the FFQW82 and the 7d-FRRI for the whole day, breakfast, lunch and dinner was 8 %, 10 %, 15 % and 10 %, respectively. As for validity, the correlation coefficient of total energy intake for the whole day was 0·31. The result for breakfast was relatively higher (0·59) compared with that for lunch (0·40) and dinner (0·32). For macronutrients, the energy-adjusted correlation coefficient ranged from 0·28 (carbohydrates) to 0·53 (protein). Reproducibility of total energy intake was 0·62 and ranged from 0·46 (fat) to 0·69 (carbohydrate) for macronutrients.ConclusionsThese results suggest that the FFQW82 has proved to have some potential with regard to reproducibility among our study population.

Abstract (sommario):
Research on teacher collaboration emphasizes the key role of collaborative culture for teachers’ functioning; however, there is little empirical evidence to investigate its relationship with knowledge sharing among university ESP teachers. In the present study, the relationship between EFL teachers’ collaborative climate and knowledge sharing was sought. The data were collected through two surveys of 328 Iranian ESP teachers. A Pearson correlation was carried out to investigate the relationship between the two variables of the study. A multiple regression analysis was also run to examine if ESP teachers’ collaborative climate predicts their knowledge sharing. A follow-up interview with 13 ESP teachers was conducted to consolidate the findings and explore the contribution of teachers’ collaborative climate to their knowledge sharing. The Pearson correlation coefficient test demonstrated a significant positive correlation for four measures (organizational culture, the head of department, teachers’ attitude, workgroup support), and the collaborative climate. The results of the multiple regression also indicated that four subscales of collaborative climate were the predictors of ESP teachers’ attitude towards knowledge sharing. Analysis of the interview data, on the other hand, indicated how teachers’ collaborative climate contributes to their knowledge sharing through one of the four main sources, namely helpful atmosphere, encouragement received from the heads of departments, the expectation of reward, and work group support. In line with these findings, several practical recommendations were offered.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Background: Hormone-receptor (HR)+/HER2- breast cancer (BC) is a biologically heterogeneous disease. Homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) and BRCA mutations have been previously reported to be associated with worse outcomes in HR+/HER2- metastatic BC patients receiving CDK4/6 inhibitors and endocrine therapy. Here, we assess the relation between HRD and RB-loss signatures, intrinsic subtyping, the PAM50-based chemo-endocrine score, and response to chemotherapy-based therapy and endocrine treatment in HR+/HER2- early BC. Methods: GIADA is a multicentric neoadjuvant phase II trial that treated premenopausal patients with Luminal B (LumB)-like BC (HR-positive, HER2-negative, with Ki67>20% and/or histologic Grade 3) with a combination of chemotherapy, immunotherapy and endocrine treatment. Expression of 758 genes on baseline tumor samples from all 43 patients was quantified by nCounter platform. The LETLOB phase II trial randomized postmenopausal women with clinical stage II-IIIA HR+/HER2- BC to neoadjuvant letrozole + lapatinib or letrozole + placebo for 6 months (Guarneri, JCO 2014). Gene-expression data (Affymetrix platform) from pre-treatment frozen core-biopsies was available from 66 out of 92 pts enrolled. Intrinsic subtype was assigned using a research-based PAM50 subtype predictor. A published HRD signature (Peng, Nat Commun 2014) and a signature of RB loss (RBsig), previously reported to potentially predict resistance to CDK4/6 inhibitors in HR+/HER2- BC (Malorni, Oncotarget 2016) were computed. The PAM50 based chemo-endocrine score (CES) was calculated using published definition (Prat, CCR 2017). Higher values of CES indicate increased endocrine sensitivity, while lower values indicate chemosensitivity. Association between genomic signatures was assessed through Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Association of genomic signatures with pCR was assessed through logistic regression and association with PEPI scores was assessed through Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: HRD signature levels were significantly higher in non-luminal (Basal-like and HER2-enriched) tumors as compared to Luminal (A or B) tumors (p>0.001 in the GIADA trial, p=0.021 in the LETLOB trial). Moreover, higher levels of HRD signature were associated with higher levels of RB-loss signature (Pearson correlation 0.355, p=0.020 in the GIADA trial; Pearson correlation 0.942, p< 0.001 in the LETLOB trial), higher levels of Basal-like signature (Pearson correlation 0.502, p< 0.001 in the GIADA trial; Pearson correlation 0.373, p=0.002 in the LETLOB trial) and lower levels of CES (Pearson correlation -0.422, p=0.005 in the GIADA trial; Pearson correlation -0.763, p< 0.001 in the LETLOB trial), indicative of higher chemosensitivity. In the GIADA trial, higher levels of HRD signature (p=0.018) and RBloss signature (p=0.073) and lower levels of CES (p=0.007) were associated with higher pCR rates after chemo, endocrine and immunotherapy. In the LETLOB trial, lower levels of HRD signature (p=0.068) and RBloss signature (p=0.042) and higher levels of CES (p=0.050) were associated with higher sensitivity to endocrine treatment (lower PEPI scores, 0 vs 1-3 vs 4 or more, after neoadjuvant letrozole). Conclusions: In HR+/HER2- early BC, HRD gene signatures, RB-loss gene signatures and non-luminal (especially Basal-like) intrinsic subtyping are associated with each other and associated with higher sensitivity to chemotherapy-based therapy and lower sensitivity to endocrine treatment. These observations might help correctly tailor systemic therapy, including biologic agents, in patients with HR+/HER2- early and advanced BC. Abstract (sommario):
Clinicians have questioned the value of lateral soft tissue neck x-ray (LSTN) in assessing adenoid size. Elaborate cephalometric assays have been devised to measure degree of nasopharyngeal obstruction secondary to adenoid hypertrophy. This study prospectively studied 73 children, aged 11 months to 13 years, with clinical evidence of adenoid hypertrophy to assess how well a LSTN correlates with direct intraoperative observation of adenoid size and nasopharyngeal obstruction. We found a relatively weak correlation (Pearson coefficient r = 0.34) between x-ray and operative observations. We conclude that LSTN is an appropriate examination in the preoperative assessment of children being considered for adenoidectomy. However, this test must be interpreted by recognizing the inherent limitations of evaluating a dynamic structure, such as the nasopharynx, through a non-dynamic modality.

Abstract (sommario):
ObjectiveLow total testosterone (TT) serum concentrations in men have been associated with various cardiometabolic risk factors. But given error-prone immunoassays used for TT assessment, upcoming mass spectrometry methods question the validity of these risk associations. Thus, we performed the first comparative study quantifying potential differences in the association of TT with cardiometabolic risk factors between the two methods.MethodsWe used data from 1512 men aged 20–81 years, recruited for the cross-sectional population-based Study of Health in Pomerania (SHIP), Germany. TT concentrations were repeatedly measured by chemiluminescent immunoassay (CLIA, Immulite 2500) and liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS). We tested for significant differences between coefficients from CLIA- and LC–MS/MS-based multiple linear regression models associating TT with major cardiometabolic risk factors including adiposity, lipid metabolism, blood pressure, diabetic status, and inflammation.ResultsTT measurements by CLIA and LC–MS/MS yielded a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.84. Only three of the ten tested associations for TT with cardiometabolic risk factor showed significant differences between the two measurement methods: in comparison to LC–MS/MS, CLIA-based TT assessment significantly underestimated risk associations of TT with waist circumference (β: −0.54 vs −0.63), BMI (β: −0.19 vs −0.22), and serum glucose levels (β: −0.006 vs −0.008).ConclusionIn this comparative study, the CLIA platform showed a reasonable measurement error and yielded comparable risk associations, providing little support to measure TT concentrations in men from the general population exclusively by LC–MS/MS.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Abstract 4770 Introduction: The care of patients with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is frequently complicated by difficult venous access complicating blood sampling for laboratory investigations including hemoglobin (Hb) measurement. Non-invasive hemoglobin concentration monitoring is a potential solution, albeit not validated yet in patients with SCD. The primary objective of this study was to validate non-invasive pulse CO-oximetry based hemoglobin estimation in this patient population. Methods: We conducted a prospective observational study on patients with SCD admitted to the inpatient wards over 4 weeks in a tertiary care hospital. We estimated a spot Hemoglobin (Sp Hb) measurement using Masimo Pronto-7 Pulse CO-oximetry device (two measurements per patient) and compared it to a venous sample Hb (Reference Hemoglobin; Ref Hb) measured using Abbott CELL-DYN Sapphire hematology analyzer. We calculated Pearson correlation coefficient and coefficient of determination (R2). The multivariable linear regression model of predicting the estimation differences included age, gender, weight, height, blood pressure and reference hemoglobin. Results: We enrolled 98 patients (45 males, 53 females) with a mean age of 26 years (SD 8.8; 14–75) and a mean Ref Hb of 9.2 g/dL (SD 1.5; 5.3–13). The mean Sp Hb was 10.1 g/dL (SD 2.0; 5.3–14.5). The correlation coefficient between the Sp Hb and Ref Hb was 0.54 (R2 = 29%) with a mean difference of 0.9 g/dL (SD 1.7; −4.8 to 4.5). In the multivariable model, gender (p =0.042) and Ref Hb level (p=0.001) were statistically significant predictors for the difference in measurement. A strong correlation between the two CO-oximetry Hb measurements was obtained (correlation coefficient = 0.81, R2 = 65%). Conclusions: Our study demonstrated the validity of the CO-oximetry Hb measurement in adult patients with SCD. Larger prospective studies are needed to confirm our results. Disclosures: No relevant conflicts of interest to declare.

Abstract (sommario):
The evaluation of gait biomechanics using portable inertial measurement units (IMUs) offers real-time feedback and has become a crucial tool for detecting gait disorders. However, many of these devices have not yet been fully validated. The aim of this study was to assess the concurrent validity and relative reliability of the RunScribe™ system for measuring spatiotemporal gait parameters during walking. A total of 460 participants (age: 36 ± 13 years; height: 173 ± 9 cm; body mass: 70 ± 13 kg) were asked to walk on a treadmill at 5 km·h−1. Spatiotemporal parameters of step frequency (SF), step length (SL), step time (ST), contact time (CT), swing time (SwT), stride time (StT), stride length (StL) and normalized stride length (StL%) were measured through RunScribe™ and OptoGait™ systems. Bland–Altman analysis indicated small systematic biases and random errors for all variables. Pearson correlation analysis showed strong correlations (0.70–0.94) between systems. The intraclass correlation coefficient supports these results, except for contact time (ICC = 0.64) and swing time (ICC = 0.34). The paired t-test showed small differences in SL, StL and StL% (≤0.25) and large in CT and SwT (1.2 and 2.2, respectively), with no differences for the rest of the variables. This study confirms the accuracy of the RunScribe™ system for assessing spatiotemporal parameters during walking, potentially reducing the barriers to continuous gait monitoring and early detection of gait issues.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose. The article is devoted to the study of the presence of a connection between resilience and maladaptive schemas in students of different ages. Method. Studying of the correlation between resilience and maladaptive schemas among students of different ages has been conducted on a sample of 67 students of Tula State Lev Tolstoy Pedagogical University students, aged 18 to 24, in the number of 67 people. As diagnostic material, the study uses Maddi’s Hardiness Survey; Young Schema Questionnaire “YSQ-S3R”. Methods of mathematical statistics include Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC). Correlation analysis has revealed the presence of strong inverse correlations between the resilience with maladaptive schemas “Vulnerability to Harm or Illness” and “Mistrust” (r=-0.578 and r=-0.499 at a significance level of p<0.01), “Subjugation” (r=-0.486), “Failure” (r=-0.443), “Unrelenting Standards” (r=-0.441), “Dependence/Incompetence” (r=-0.431) and “Defectiveness” (r=-0.424) at p<0.01. Results. The study has shown that resilience is a dynamic process caused by the age-psychological characteristics of an individual, including early maladaptive patterns of behavior. This is evidenced by differences in the structure of resilience in different age groups, as well as an increase in the level of resilience from youth to youth. Practical implications. The research materials can be used in the work of the psychological service of an educational organization. Understanding the detailed content of the process of becoming resilience contributes to the purposefulness of developmental and psychoprophylactic work.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Clinically useful prognostic markers are well described in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and include cell surface expression of CD38 and levels of the intracellular kinase ZAP70. The variable hinge region of the immunoglobulin heavy chain gene (VH) mutation status is well described and highly prognostic but at present remains primarily a research tool. The presence or absence of activation of intracellular signalling cascades by phosphorylation in response to cross linking of the B cell receptor (BCR) in vitro has also been shown to carry prognostic merit in CLL in a number of studies. These studies have used western blotting based approaches making screening of large sample numbers time consuming. We investigated the correlation between intracellular kinase signalling and CD38, ZAP70 and VH status using a novel ELISA assay for phospho Extracellular signal Regulated Kinase (pERK). CLL cells from 101 patients were either stimulated by BCR cross-linking with goat anti-human IgM Fc5μ fragment or treated with Goat IgG F(ab’) fragment as an isotype control or treated with Phorbol-12-Myristate-13-Acetate (PMA) as a positive control. All treatments were given for a 15 minute incubation prior to cell lysis and protein extraction. We validated our sample pool with analysis of cumulative survival versus VH mutation status. Using a 98% deviation from germline as the unmutated : mutated cut off this confirmed a significant survival advantage in the mutated cases p=0.011 (Mantel-Cox log rank, unmutated mean survival 3209 days vs. mutated mean survival 7569 days). For the analysis of signalling status samples demonstrating a greater than 2 fold increase in absolute pERK levels over isotype were designated as signallers. Of 101 samples analysed 33 (33%) were signallers. Mean survival for signallers was 2826 days whereas for non-signallers it was 7059 days. However this difference was not significant p=0.404 (Mantel-Cox log rank). A significant positive correlation between signaller status and VH concordance to germline was demonstrated (p=0.014, Mann Whitney test; Pearson correlation coefficient 0.226, p=0.023). CD38 positivity and pERK signalling status also showed a significant relationship (p=0.003, Chi Squared test; Pearson correlation coefficient 0.364, p=0.002). The relationship between pERK and ZAP70 did not achieve significance (p=0.054, Chi Squared test; Pearson correlation coefficient 0.211, p=0.039). Taken as a whole these data provide further strong evidence that retention of the ability to signal across the BCR is important in CLL prognosis. We have demonstrated that ELISA is an highly efficient and fully quantitative tool for such analysis. ELISA also facilitates the study of larger sample numbers in comparison to more traditional techniques. We are continuing to use ELISA on different targets as an effective way of progressing the study of intracellular signalling. This study of intracellular signalling remains a valid and important area of translational research in CLL.

Abstract (sommario):
Noise Induce Hearing Loss (NIHL) is a work disease that is often found in industrial workers. The use of ear protectors that are in accordance with the standard along with the continuity of optimal use can reduce the risk of hearing loss due to noise in the workplace. Adherence to use ear protectors greatly affect the possibility of a person experiencing a more severe hearing loss. The purpose of this study is to prove the existence of relationship of compliance with the use of ear protectors with hearing loss due to noise in the installation of sterilization and laundry. This study used cross sectional methods. Seventeen samples were taken by consecutive sampling for audiometry examination and measurement of compliance with the use of Ear Protective Equipment. Respondents received an average score of 1.86 indicating that compliance with the use of ear protectors was sufficient. Based on the results of the measurement of the auditory threshold in 17 respondents as many as 4 respondents (23%) normal hearing and as many as 13 respondents (77%) experienced NIHL. The results of statistical tests with Pearson correlation show that the Pearson correlation coefficient number of -0.643, which means that the correlation between compliance variables with noise due to noise is 0.643. Based on the criteria above, the relationship between the two variables is significant because the number of significance is P-value / Sig 0.005 <0.05. So, there is a relation between years of work with Noise Induce Hearing Loss, education and Noise Induce Hearing Loss, and compliance with the use of ear protectors with NIHL

Purpose: To explore the relationship between absolute and relative upper-body strength and selected measures of handcycling performance. Methods: A total of 13 trained H3/H4-classified male handcyclists (mean [SD] age 37 [11] y; body mass 76.6 [10.1] kg; peak oxygen consumption 2.8 [0.6] L·min−1; relative peak oxygen consumption 36.5 [10] mL·kg·min−1) performed a prone bench-pull and bench-press 1-repetition-maximum strength assessment, a 15-km individual time trial, a graded exercise test, and a 15-second all-out sprint test. Relationships between all variables were assessed using Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: Absolute strength measures displayed a large correlation with gross mechanical efficiency and maximum anaerobic power output (P = .05). However, only a small to moderate relationship was identified with all other measures. In contrast, relative strength measures demonstrated large to very large correlations with gross mechanical efficiency, 15-km time-trial velocity, maximum anaerobic power output, peak aerobic power output, power at a fixed blood lactate concentration of 4 mmol·L−1, and peak oxygen consumption (P = .05). Conclusion: Relative upper-body strength demonstrates a significant relationship with time-trial velocity and several handcycling performance measures. Relative strength is the product of one’s ability to generate maximal forces relative to body mass. Therefore, the development of one’s absolute strength combined with a reduction in body mass may influence real-world handcycling race performance.

Abstract (sommario):
In this study, we tried to shade light on effect of precipitation on the underground water level in Central Sulaimani Province, based on collected data of precipitation of different weather station in Sulaimani, Bakrajo, Bazyan. Data of all the wells, in practical fields using electrical sounder for measuring weather levels. GPS was also used to detect the astronomical position of the wells and define their places on map using ArcGis10.8. On two different time periods, the water levels were measured including Autumn, when the underground water position is in its mining level, from 17-9-2021 to 13-11-2021, and on Spring from 4-3-2022 to 17-4-2022 when water is at lightest level. To compare water levels before and after precipitation, another method of quantitative analysis based on statistical results and Pearson Coefficient to realize correction of degree of precipitation and underground water levels. Moreover, effect of precipitation on underground water level has been shown using SPSS-26. The aim of this research is to define the relation and precipitation effects on underground water level, and ultimately propose a scientific plan to preserve the underground water level. As a result, according to Pearson Coefficient Correlation, there is negative relation between precipitation and the depth of underground water level. This means that the depth to reach underground water is reduced when the precipitation increases. Furthermore; precipitation has an estimated effect of 90.2% on static level of underground water, and of 67.6% on dynamic level of underground water.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Introduction: Research studies have already shown that tumor aggressiveness and response to chemical and radiation therapies are influenced by the extravascular extracellular space (VEES) of the tumor microenvironment. Assessment of VEES has been reported to be fundamental to understanding tumor response to treatment and probability of recurrence. Purpose: This pilot study investigates the association between wavelet-based radiomic features extracted from dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance images (DCE-MRI) of rat brain tumors against VEES estimated by pharmacokinetic modeling. Methods: Eight immune-compromised-RNU/RNU rats were implanted with human U251n cancer cells to form an orthotopic glioma (IACUC #1509). For each rat, two DCE-MRI studies (multi slice/echo GE, 3 slice(2mm),128x64, FOV:32x32mm2, TR/(TE1-TE2)=24ms/(2ms-4ms), flip angle=18º, 400 acquisitions, 1.55 sec interval, Magnevist was injected at acquisition no. 15) were performed (24h apart) using a 7T Varian (Agilent, 20cm bore) scanner. A single 20Gy stereotactic radiation exposure was performed before the second study. The post treatment MRIs were taken a range of 1-6.5 hrs post radiation. The time trace of relaxivity change (ΔR1) in all the voxels of the animal’s brain for all studies were calculated. Wavelet decomposition analysis was performed on the ΔR1 for each voxel and frequency-based localized approximations with 4 degrees of regularities were estimated. The VEES map was estimated from ΔR1 by the pharmacokinetic (modified Toft’s) model and a nested model selection technique. Finally, the Pearson correlation coefficients between the VEES map and corresponding wavelet coefficient maps in the tumor region were calculated. Results: The average voxel-wise Pearson correlation coefficients between the VEES maps (averaged for all animals) and their corresponding wavelet-based, radiomics coefficient maps were: r= -0.680, r= -0.802, r= -0.813, and r= -0.791 with p<0.0001 for the 4 wavelet coefficients (from higher to lower frequencies), respectively. Discussion & Conclusion: This pilot study suggests that wavelet based radiomic analysis has potential to provide information pertinent to the tumor microenvironment, which correlates well with pharmacokinetic modeling.
