Abstract (sommario):
The peacekeeping became actual agenda of international relations due to increased number of internal conflicts with mass human rights violations in different regions of the world including Africa. The problems of ensuring peace and security have become priority for United Nations (UN) and regional organizations involved in constant search of conflict resolution best practices. Peacekeeping actors admitted the key role of law-enforcement agencies, and first of all the police, in ensuring security in conflict or post-conflict reconstruction. Therefore, the UN actively developing the strategy of police methods usage in peacekeeping operations. Because of this process, the number of member states contributing police contingents to the UN including formed police units increased. Joint activity of police officers from different countries with different education, professional experience and specialization requires high-quality training of candidates for peacekeeping operations. The purpose of this article is to analyze the needs of African police officers in professional development and the capabilities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation in training of African police officers for the UN peacekeeping operations. The study is based on insights from non-participant observation, interviews and analyses of the UN official documents, policies and training materials. Actual Russian and foreign scientific publications were used. Results confirmed that Russian Federation has many years of experience in African policemen training for the UN peacekeeping operations. The promising areas of Russian Federation participation in the development of the peacekeeping potential of African police, along with the provision of standardized pre-deployment training based on the UN certified programs, can be training in the crime investigation methodology and the training of special police units of the UN member states.

Abstract (sommario):
There is no substitute for good microscope care. A unit that is stored and covered, with its lens protected in a constant temperature/ humidity environment, which is dust free (in the laboratory away from acid wash areas) speaks for itself. During cleaning, oculars in particular, microscope rubes should be covered to prevent entry of dust. A lens should be inspected with a view to cleaning if there is a lack of contrast, cloudiness or poor definition in the images it produces. While extolling the virtue of cleaning microscope components, it should be emphasized that cleaning can cause considerable damage if it is done incorrectly.

Abstract (sommario):
This report highlights the best practices captured in the management of Tail-Gas Treatment Unit (TGTU)’s hydrogenation CoMo catalyst throughout its lifecycle, these best practices were developed based on success story in operating the TGTU, which provides technical framework to manage TGTU unit performance throughout TGTU catalyst lifecycle. The aforementioned TGTU CoMo catalyst management best practices span across the whole catalyst lifecycle, starting from cradle stage of activating/sulphiding the fresh oxide-form catalyst up to grave stage of unloading & handling the spent catalyst to a safe location. Furthermore, stressing points have been provided to record special procedure to activate catalyst’s active sites (Cobalt & Molybdenum) in a process commonly known as “sulphiding”, as well as “passivation” procedure during TGTU catalyst unloading due to the presence of pyrophoric material such as Iron Sulphide (FeS) in the TGTU converter. This developed best practices provide solid reference point for future TGTU catalyst management throughout its lifecycle. Therefore, it can be adopted and consistently applied across other TGTU-based Sulfur Recovery Unit (SRU) plants in order to maintain the optimum Sulfur Recovery Efficiency (SRE), minimize plant downtime due to catalyst replacement and prevent unwanted environmental issues such as SOx emissions).

Abstract (sommario):
The purpose of this article is to evaluate the potential for online multimedia materials as alternative learning tools for the collaborative training of teachers in the design of research-based teaching. A case study using a team of three trainee teachers was used to develop a process of initial training in the design of a constructivist and research-based teaching unit supported by online multimedia material. The results obtained from the research allowed some principles to be identified and basic recommendations and alternative lines of action to be given for designing online multimedia materials. Online multimedia materials can be alternative teaching tools that contribute, with other materials, to the development of constructivist, collaborative, and research-based strategies which help provide the necessary support for improving the initial and ongoing training of new teachers in the design of teaching from a research perspective.

Abstract (sommario):
Resolution 1325, ratified by the United Nations in 2000, calls for increased gender awareness as well as an increase in the number of women officers in international peacekeeping operations. This article explores gender relations and military practice in a Swedish military unit bound for such an operation. The article is based on an ethnographic study and draws on feminist theories of organization. The purpose is to discuss ordering practices in a military unit, and the gender patterns they create. I show that Resolution 1325 reshapes gender distinctions in the military. Three sets of ordering practices are analyzed. I show that the practice of taken for granted masculinity tends to make women invisible and reinforce a masculine soldier norm. Furthermore, the practice of stereotyping reinforces perceived gender differences. The practice of the gendered resource constructs women officers as complementary to their male peers, and is related to the specific tasks women are assigned as a result of Resolution 1325. In conclusion, I state that the resolution is a source of new gender distinctions in the military practice. First, a women’s niche is emerging and thus a new gender division of labor is constructed as a result of the resolution. Second, the members of the studied unit tend to create a distinction between men, that is, between the Swedish soldiers in the unit and the local men “down there”. Third, I show that the issue of gender equality in the unit is dislocated as a result of Resolution 1325. The issue of “international gender equality” tends to marginalize questions concerning gender relations in the Armed Forces. When 1325 is interpreted at the unit, it boils down to a handful of positions where women are required – for the sake of the operation.

Abstract (sommario):
PurposeThis study aims to assign efficiency score and then ranking the Indian companies known for best practices to control carbon-emission in the environment. It is destined to benchmark one company for best performance on the basis of selected alternatives among its peer group companies.Design/methodology/approachThe present study has used a hybrid model by applying data envelopment analysis (DEA)-technique for order performance by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) to measure the efficiency and ranking of various decision units on the basis of specified variables.FindingsThe findings of DEA have given the best alternative or best decision-making unit (DMU) among the set of 25 DMUs considered for empirical testing. The DEA technique is used with TOPSIS, which is another popular multi-criteria decision model. The integrated DEA-TOPSIS model has helped to compute the efficiency score of all 25 DMUs of study and also provide a unique rank to each of the efficient unit identified with the help of DEA technique.Practical implicationsThe findings of the study have provided Benchmark Company amongst the companies following best practices for saving energy and having best operating profits too. This benchmark business unit can be studied extensively by peer group companies to compare various parameters affecting their efficiency and profits both.Social implicationsThe findings of the study will promote the socially responsible practices by corporate citizens and adopt the practices to reduce their carbon footprints. It will also suggest to socially responsible investors to select the benchmark and most efficient companies for investment purpose.Originality/valueThe study is original in terms of measuring efficiency and ranking of companies known for best practices for controlling their carbon footprints and suggesting a benchmark company to its peer group. Also, the integrated approach of using DEA-TOPSIS for such type of studies also makes it distinctive from earlier work done in the related field.

Abstract (sommario):
High-level isolation units (HLIUs) are specially designed facilities for care and management of patients with suspected or confirmed high-consequence infectious diseases (HCIDs), equipped with unique infrastructure and operational features. While individual HLIUs have published on their experiences caring for patients with HCIDs and two previous HLIU consensus efforts have outlined key components of HLIUs, we aimed to summarise the existing literature that describes best practices, challenges and core features of these specialised facilities. A narrative review of the literature was conducted using keywords associated with HLIUs and HCIDs. A total of 100 articles were used throughout the manuscript from the literature search or from alternate methods like reference checks or snowballing. Articles were sorted into categories (eg, physical infrastructure, laboratory, internal transport); for each category, a synthesis of the relevant literature was conducted to describe best practices, experiences and operational features. The review and summary of HLIU experiences, best practices, challenges and components can serve as a resource for units continuing to improve readiness, or for hospitals in early stages of developing their HLIU teams and planning or constructing their units. The COVID-19 pandemic, a global outbreak of mpox, sporadic cases of viral haemorrhagic fevers in Europe and the USA, and recent outbreaks of Lassa fever, Sudan Ebolavirus, and Marburg emphasise the need for an extensive summary of HLIU practices to inform readiness and response.

Abstract (sommario):
Introduction Nursing practice demands coordination of activities within and across units to enable quality delivery of healthcare services. Nurse managers are best positioned to ensure effective care coordination at the operational level in the hospitals. The purpose of this study was to examine the care coordination practices of nurse managers at the unit level. Methods A quantitative exploratory descriptive approach using a cross-sectional survey design was used to collect data from 522 nurses in 19 hospitals in the Greater Accra region of Ghana. Descriptive and regression analyses were performed to describe the sample and to predict the behaviour of nurse managers. The systems model was used as a conceptual framework for the survey. Data collection was from October 2015 to March 2016. Results The response rate for collection of data was 95.7%. Nurse managers exhibited an acceptable level of care coordination practices. Nurse managers’ characteristics together predicted the care coordination practices at the unit (R2=0.111, p < 0.001). The unit, unit workload, experience as a nurse manager, and work duration with nurses were the significant predictors in the regression model. Discussion Care coordination is needed at the unit level to prevent conflict, overlapping, and constant interdepartmental friction which enables nurses to take a broad overview of coordinated care instead of myopic observation and reflection in the unit. Nurse managers are best positioned to coordinate care due to their vast professional knowledge and experience. Effective communication, good interpersonal relationship, and good listening skills are essential coordination practices critical to the efficiency of the unit.

Abstract (sommario):
The objective sought by this study is to highlight the socio-economic determinants that could be helpful in scaling up of best land management practices in high demographics areas. Indeed, a survey was carried out in Dan Saga and Tabofatt two villages’ clusters in order to identify the driver factors which explain the high adoption of best land management practices in these areas. The data were collected from 200 farmers (100 from each cluster), randomly chosen. The survey addressed the likelihood of farmer to use agroforestry practices and or erosion control practices, on the basis of four socioeconomics variables: the educational level of farmer (Instr), the distance between their farm and habitation (Prox), the possession of Harnessed Cultivation Unit (HCU) and the land tenure status (Land). Data were subjected to an analysis by statistical modeling of logistic regression. The results show that agroforestry technology is predominated in Dan Saga cluster (90% of citation for agroforestry practices) compare to Tabofatt cluster where people use mostly erosion control practices (76% of citation for erosion control practices). Among the socioeconomics variables, three main factors significantly influenced the adoption of best land management; the educational level of peasants, the modality of land tenure by purchase and by inheritance and the possession of harness unit. In addition, the main land management technologies perform a high profitability compare to state of inaction. These results could serve as a lever for scaling up of regreening policy in other degraded areas of Sahel’s region.

Abstract (sommario):
Communication errors are the leading root cause of preventable adverse events in hospitals. Patient care rounds provide the most important opportunity for interprofessional communication; however, rounds involve many interprofessional team members, and it can be challenging to achieve optimal communication and team functioning. While rounding best practices have been identified, implementations of best practices have produced mixed results, and little emphasis has been placed on explicitly aligning interventions to user needs. The goal of this study was to elucidate health care providers’ (HCPs) rounding needs and to align intervention design to those needs to improve interprofessional communication within a paediatric critical care unit (CCU). Interview and survey data were collected to identify needs and a participatory design approach was taken to transform needs into intervention(s). The main needs identified led to specific changes included in the intervention design such as changes in the structure, content and timing of morning rounds.

Envision practicing in an environment where nonvocal patients can effectively express their need for better pain control, repositioning, or emotional reassurance. Picture an intensive care unit where a nurse-led, interprofessional team practices evidence-based, patient-centered care focused on preserving and/or restoring their clients’ physical, functional, and neurocognitive abilities. A recently proposed bundle of practices for the intensive care unit could advance the current practice environment toward this idealized environment. The Awakening and Breathing Coordination, Delirium Monitoring and Management, and Early Mobility (ABCDE) bundle incorporates the best available evidence related to delirium, immobility, sedation/analgesia, and ventilator management in the intensive care unit for adoption into everyday clinical practice.

Abstract (sommario):
This article, written by JPT Technology Editor Judy Feder, contains highlights of paper SPE 204417, “Avoiding Erosion: Best Practices for Coiled Tubing Annular Fracturing Operations,” by Kaveh Yekta, SPE, and Jamie Fenwick, SPE, Essential Energy Services, and Kevin Elliott, SPE, NOV, et al., prepared for the 2021 SPE/ICoTA Virtual Well Intervention Conference, 22–25 March. The paper has not been peer reviewed. The onset of erosion of coiled tubing (CT) strings may be difficult to predict in annular fracturing operations. The complete paper describes a methodology of verifying that CT strings have not been subject to erosion caused by annular fracturing operations. An exploration of pumping rates used on these strings in operations also provides field-tested practical guidelines for avoiding erosion when performing annular fracturing jobs. Inspection A CT string may be exposed to erosion in the outer surface during CT annular fracturing operations. The critical parameters that may influence the magnitude of erosion include fracturing pump rate, sand concentration, fluid rheology, wellbore geometry, and the grade of CT string. One measurable parameter to examine the string’s suitability is the wall thickness for each section. The CT strings discussed in the complete paper were sent for inspection to learn about the effect of the fracturing treatment. A series of nondestructive tests was conducted pre- and post-operation to evaluate the readiness of strings for subsequent operations. The complete paper includes two graphs related to the results of these tests. Materials The API 5ST specification requires using eddy current (EC) inspection for CT. With respect to API 5ST, quenched and tempered tubing had not been addressed at the time of this paper’s submission, so it is not clear whether the CT manufacturers employ EC techniques after quenching and tempering. However, it is expected that all tubing will be subject to EC inspection at least before any quenching and tempering operations. Inspection methodology and equipment consistency is important to establish a baseline inspection necessary for subsequent comparisons. In the case of the CT strings used in this study, all were subject to EC inspection at tubing manufacturing and then subsequently inspected by an outside, third-party vendor using magnetic flux leakage (MFL) technology when spooling the strings on the unit. No known third-party EC vendors can inspect string lengths of CT, so MFL inspection is the only available solution. Photographs of CT inspections taken at the manufacturing facility and the service and distribution point are included in the paper. Several commercial third-party inspection companies operate in North America, where this work was performed. Provided that the inspection can begin by identifying features in the calibration standard (often a through-drilled hole), the selection of inspection methodology is primarily a matter of preference for the service company and operator.

Abstract (sommario):
ABSTRACT Objectives: The objective of this project was to promote evidence-based practices regarding the nursing assessment of pregnant women with hypertensive disorders admitted to the intrapartum unit. Introduction: Hypertension during pregnancy has been associated with adverse maternal and fetal outcomes. Ongoing evaluation and nursing care are key in the prevention of complications resulting from hypertensive disorders in pregnancy. Methods: The implementation of this best practice project was guided by the JBI Model of Evidence-based Healthcare and used the JBI Practical Application of Clinical Evidence System and Getting Research into Practice audit and feedback strategy to promote evidence-based practices regarding the nursing assessment of pregnant women with hypertensive disorders admitted to an intrapartum unit. Eight audit criteria that were representative of best-practice recommendations for nursing assessment of pregnant women with hypertensive disorders were used. A baseline audit was conducted, followed by the implementation of multiple strategies that were determined by the key stakeholders. The project was finalized with a follow-up audit to determine a change in compliance with best-practice recommendations. Results: Baseline audits revealed an average 45% compliance rate with the eight best practice audit criteria. An on-site simulation event, which included a nursing assessment of normal and abnormal lung sounds along with the hands-on practice of deep tendon reflexes, was provided by project members. Evidence-based assessment guidelines were presented and reviewed with all participants. Input from the nursing staff was gathered regarding current documentation practices and electronic health record accessibility. As a result, an electronic health record change was requested, and improvements in nursing practice were observed for five of the eight audit criteria. Follow-up audits revealed an average compliance rate of 73% for all eight audit criteria, a 28% improvement. Conclusion: Continuing nursing education and ongoing competency refreshers can affect the quality of client care and outcomes by offering occasions to improve or strengthen clinical expertise and proficiency. For this project, the simulation training event improved nursing staff compliance with best practices.

Abstract (sommario):
While hotel revenue managers utilize tools such as pricing, market segmentation, rate fences, and forecasting to maximize revenue, hosts in peer-to-peer (P2P) accommodations often have limited knowledge and lack the sophisticated pricing tools. Despite online resources for revenue management available, there has yet to be an examination regarding how widely spread these practices are in the P2P accommodation segment. Based on daily best available rates and booking restrictions information for P2P accommodations listed on Airbnb from top 10 cities with highest room inventories in the United States, this study aims to shed light on the current state of revenue management adoption on Airbnb. Utilizing a total of 307,955 Airbnb property’s daily data for 32 months, this study found that there are significant differences in revenue management practices by host characteristics (multi-unit hosts vs. single-unit hosts: Superhosts vs. non-Superhosts) for three revenue management tactics: dynamic pricing, minimum night’s stay, and restricted cancellation, and the hosts practices changes as their experience accumulates.

Abstract (sommario):
Background: Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAb) is considered a public health threat, and this pathogen is typically associated with hospital infections. At 3 months after opening the hospital’s dedicated COVID-19 unit, 2 patients were identified with CRAb. Infection prevention staff collaborated with staff in the COVID-19 unit, hospital leadership, and health department partners to develop mitigation strategies and to prevent additional transmission. Methods: Admissions to the COVID-19 unit were stopped. Biweekly surveillance cultures were collected to identify any patients potentially colonized with CRAb. An infection control risk assessment was conducted to determine breaches in infection prevention practices. The risk assessment included environmental rounding of the area, epidemiological investigation, environmental testing, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) testing, and observing infection prevention practices. Results: The risk assessment identified multiple gaps in infection control practices, for example, gaps in hand and environmental hygiene practices. The extended use of personal protective equipment (PPE), staff shortages, fatigue, and staff taking on multiple roles and tasks outside their general job duties were other gaps identified by the team. Between June and September 2020, 43 additional CRAb cases were identified in the facility, with 4 (9.8%) cases outside the COVID-19 unit. Moreover, 29 cases (64%) were considered clinical infections and 16 (36%) were identified from surveillance efforts. Environmental cultures identified 1 positive surface with CRAb. PFGE testing was completed on 44 isolates; 42 isolates had identical PFGE patterns, and 2 isolates were unrelated to the COVID-19 unit; 2 isolates were closely related (with 3-band differences) but were not identified in the COVID-19 unit. Conclusions: The inability to definitively identify the source of transmission made it challenging to determine the best approach to eradicating the pathogen. Mitigation for outbreaks should focus on not deviating from core infection control practices.Funding: NoneDisclosures: None

Abstract (sommario):
Climate change will require societal-scale infrastructural changes. Balancing priorities for water, energy, and climate will demand that approaches to water and energy management deviate from historical practice. Infrastructure designed to mitigate environmental harm, particularly related to climate change, is likely to become increasingly prevalent. Understanding the implications of such infrastructure for environmental quality is thus of interest. Environmental life cycle assessment (LCA) is a common sustainability assessment tool that aims to quantify the total, multicriteria environmental impact caused by a functional unit. Notably, however, LCA quantifies impacts in the form of environmental “costs” of delivering the functional unit. In the case of mitigation infrastructures, LCA results can be confusing because they are generally reported as the harmful impacts of performing mitigation rather than as net impacts that incorporate benefits of successful mitigation. This paper argues for defining mitigation LCA as a subtype of LCA to facilitate better understanding of results and consistency across studies. Our recommendations are informed by existing LCA literature on mitigation infrastructure, focused particularly on stormwater and carbon management. We specifically recommend that analysts: (1) use a performance-based functional unit; (2) be attentive to burden shifting; and (3) assess and define uncertainty, especially related to mitigation performance.

Abstract (sommario):
This case study of an English methods course examines how preservice teachers demonstrate knowledge, skills, and dispositions for social justice teaching. Qualitative analyses of participants’ performances on two signature course assessments, micro-teaching and unit planning, show how opportunities to demonstrate socially just teaching practices are both afforded and missed. The study and course design draw from theories and practices of critical multicultural education, culturally relevant teaching, and equity literacy. Findings indicate that despite our best intentions, course assessments did not fully support engagement with, or applications of, social justice principles.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractBackground:Few studies have tracked stroke survivors through transitions across the health system and identified the most common trajectories and quality of care received. The objectives of our study were to examine the trajectories that incident stroke patients experience and to quantify the extent to which their care adhered to the best practices for stroke care. Methods:A population-based cohort of first-ever stroke/transient ischemic attack (TIA) patients from the 2012/13 Ontario Stroke Audit was linked to administrative databases using an encrypted health card number to identify dominant trajectories (N=12,362). All trajectories began in the emergency department (ED) and were defined by the transitions that followed immediately after the ED. Quality indicators were calculated to quantify best practice adherence within trajectories. Results:Six trajectories of stroke care were identified with significant variability in patient characteristics and quality of care received. Almost two-thirds (64.5%) required hospital admission. Trajectories that only involved the ED had the lowest rates of brain and carotid artery imaging (91.5 and 44.2%, respectively). Less than 20% of patients in trajectories involving hospital admissions received care on a stroke unit. The trajectory involving inpatient rehabilitation received suboptimal secondary prevention measures. Conclusions:There are six main trajectories stroke patients follow, and adherence to best practices varies by trajectory. Trajectories resulting in patients being transitioned to home care following ED management only are least likely and those including inpatient rehabilitation are most likely to receive stroke best practices. Increased time in facility-based care results in greater access to best practices. Stroke patients receiving only ED care require closer follow-up by stroke specialists.

Abstract (sommario):
Objectives: We sought to determine the relationship between an oral-care bundle that includes use of new oral care devices, education of best practices for performing oral care, and daily audits to measure compliance with oral care best practices and the reduction of nonventilator hospital-acquired pneumonia (NV-HAP) and NV-HAP–associated sepsis and mortality outcomes. Methods: Havasu Regional Medical Center (HRMC) is a 171-bed acute-care community hospital in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. The hospital inpatient units measured in this quasi-experimental study were the medical surgical telemetry ortho unit (MTSO), the intermediate care unit (IMC), and the ICU.There were 30,838 hospital patient days in 2021. NV-HAP were captured as patients coded as an NV-HAP and being discharged in 2021. Sepsis was captured as sepsis being documented with the source being identified as a NV-HAP with a discharge date in 2021. Mortality was captured by coding of an NV-HAP and mortality with a time of death documented in 2021. Results: From January 1, 2021, to June 4, 2021, during the baseline period before the oral-care bundle was implemented, HRMC had 12,415 patient days and experienced a NV-HAP rate of 1.2 per 1,000 patient days and a sepsis rate of 0.56 per 1,000 patient days with the source documented as NV-HAP, and mortality rate of 0.32 per 1,000 patient days with a code of NV-HAP. HRMC used June 5, 2021, as their implementation period of the bundle, which included a new oral-care device, multilevel education to staff on best practices for oral care, and daily audits to measure compliance with oral-care best practices. During the postimplementation period, HRMC had 18,413 patient days, a NV-HAP rate of 0.54 per 1,000 patient days, a sepsis rate of 0.33 per 1,000 patient days with source documented as NV-HAP, and a mortality rate of 0.16 per 1,000 patient days with a code for NV-HAP. Conclusions: From June 5, 2021, to December 31, 2021, after the implementation of the oral-care bundle, the NV-HAP rate decreased by 58%, the sepsis rate with source documented as NV-HAP decreased by 41%, and the morality rate documented as NV-HAP decreased by 50%. Hospital infection control programs should consider implementation of a robust oral-care bundle that includes best-practices education and auditing to monitor staff compliance as a potential strategy to reduce NV-HAP.Funding: NoneDisclosures: None

Abstract (sommario):
Lattice structures for engineering applications are patterns of unit cells designed to make a larger functional structure. Research on lattice structures ranges in many fields, from mechanical characterization and cell and pattern designs in respect of their applications, to the manufacturing process and its final shape control. From the manufacturing point of view, some kinds of lattice structures can be infeasible when approached with traditional manufacturing methods. It may offer an inevitable limitation of their adoption. However, advancements in Additive Manufacturing (AM) have solved this manufacturing issue to a great extent, allowing to obtain major complexity of the cells that can be achieved. The topology, shape of the unit cell, and the characteristics of its replication pattern allow us to obtain many kinds of structures in respect of the different engineering requirements and manufacturing constraints. Nevertheless, the necessity of new or dedicated CAD-CAE approaches arises to manage the domains of multiscale modeling. These are some of the advantages and disadvantages that may arise while approaching the design of a component using lattice structures. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview that integrates the most recent applications of lattice structures with their related design and manufacturing issues so that, from a practical design point of view, any state-of-the-art improvements may be established in respect of the related field of applications. In this article, engineers and researchers may find a practical summary of the capabilities and processes of lattice structures that are currently available from a design and development point of view.

Oftentimes, success is achievable for a single parameter but becomes challenging to achieve in all quality metrics. Our Burn Unit aimed for overarching principles of teamwork and contextual modification to obtain outstanding quality metrics in all six areas of patient quality. This quality improvement project aimed at reducing patient harms related to CLABSI, CAUTI, VTE, C.Diff, Falls, and HAPI. Methods Hospital leadership launched a dashboard of all six patient harm areas that is updated and reported daily during the leadership huddle. Apart from ensuring best practices for each quality metric, Burn Unit focused on teamwork and contextual modifications. Team work: Utilizing engaged multidisciplinary team, apparent cause analysis of identified cases helped in detecting fallibilities. Additionally, proactive actions were implemented for high risk patients by routine audits and discussions during daily rounds. Frequent reminders, appreciations, and celebration of success were also helpful strategies. Contextual modification: Unit and population specific interventions were actively sought for each quality metric. For HAPI, delineating existing burns or skin conditions from that of hospital acquired pressure injury helped to eliminate false positives. Identification and modification of patient care environment was vital in reducing the number of falls. Chlorhexidine gluconate bathing of burn wounds reduced the bioburden to help decrease CAUTI/CLABSIs. Results Burn Unit events related to CLABSI, CAUTI, VTE, C.Diff, Falls, and HAPI were compared to other ICUs, Step down, Telemetry, and Med-Surg units. The BICU was below national benchmarks for all six quality indicators and had outstanding success within the hospital. Our last patient harm was 328 days ago compared to the other 11 units which averaged 32 days. In the non-ICU units, Falls were the most frequent patient harm compared to CLABSI or CAUTIS for the ICUs. In Comparing to previous year, in 2019, BICU progressed in CAUTI, Falls, and HAPI while sustaining 2018 excellence in the other three areas. Conclusions Quality metrics can be simultaneously achieved by strengthening team work and contextual modifications beyond following best practices and protocols. Applicability of Research to Practice Quality metrics can be simultaneously achieved by strengthening team work and contextual modifications beyond following best practices and protocols. Strong teamwork from engaged staff and contextual modifications should be intertwined with scientific evidences for obtaining quality metrics in patient care.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract This paper presents a comparative procurement of performance appraisal products, in the context in which there are several homogeneous, which can be delivered to the public sector (goods/products/services, etc.). The proposed method provides a summary measure of the efficiency, economy, or comparative effectiveness of each unit of analysis, as well as other helpful information in performance management. Such information may include good operating practices, and the setting of performance targets at which a unit/activity/product/service can be set, by reference to the size of the most productive scale, at which another unit operates. Identify an efficient unit as a model, to which an inefficient unit can be reported, to improve its performance and productivity over time. In the paper, a case study was conducted, which aims to identify the best levels of performance of the established indicators. Four product units were analysed (as an example, the performance of four types of projectiles with different characteristics was evaluated).

Abstract (sommario):
The objective of this article was to investigate the narratives of postpartum women about childbirth care practices. This is narrative research with a qualitative approach, whose setting was the municipality of Sobral, Ceará, in a reference maternity hospital for the 11th health region. Information collection took place in the months of November and December 2023, with 14 postpartum women. The research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee, with opinion no. 6,478,196. Thus, it can be seen that the majority of women had positive perceptions regarding the obstetric care provided by the institution: presence of a companion, satisfaction with the health team, normal birth without medical interventions, recognition of normal birth as the best birth. Thus, it is concluded that the quality of the service at the unit presented as the stage for the interviews shows dynamic access, assistance aimed at care with information and conduct and the encouragement of safe practices for maternal and child health.

Abstract (sommario):
INTRODUCTION:In order to support service planning of the youth program of the East of Montreal Health and Social Services Board, and potentially of the other twenty-five programs across the Quebec province, our hospital-based Health Technology Assessment (HTA) unit was asked to bring evidence of the effective interventions for five most common mental disorders in children and young populations, namely anxio-depressive disorders, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, oppositional and conduct disorders, substance abuse disorders, and suicide attempts.METHODS:A review of reviews was conducted for the five disorders in young populations aged 6 to 25 years. This was based exclusively on systematic reviews and meta-analysis of a minimum two randomized-controlled trials. The review was completed with examples of Quebec's good practices in youth mental health gathered from personal research experience of clinical researchers involved in the project. The project involved collaboration with three other hospital units and provincial HTA agencies.RESULTS:No review supporting screening and early detection for the five disorders was identified. Prevention, however, was better covered in the literature, and a clear distinction was made between universal, targeted and indicated interventions. In general, targeted and indicated prevention interventions were effective in the case of anxio-depressive (1) and substance use disorders, while universal prevention strategies seemed to reduce suicide attempts and suicide ideation (2). Effective treatments also exist for these mental disorders. In general, psychotherapies dominated for anxio-depressive and substance use disorders; parental skills dominated in oppositional disorders, whilst pharmacological treatment dominated in attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (3). Evidence was limited for suicide attempts. The overview of Quebec's good practices allowed identification of interventions or practices already in use in the province.CONCLUSIONS:The review summarized effective interventions for five most common mental disorders in young populations. It also permitted to identify several research gaps, and therefore research recommendations were formulated for the province's health research agency.
