We show that the Owen value for TU games with a cooperation structure extends the Shapley value in a consistent way. In particular, the Shapley value is the expected Owen value for all symmetric distributions on the partitions of the player set. Similar extensions of the Banzhaf value do not show this property.

To simplify the calculations the new characteristic function is introduced based on the possibility of cutting connections by players outside the coalition. Abstract (sommario):

Quasi-Monte Carlo integration is at the core of rendering. This technique estimates the value of an integral by evaluating the integrand at well-chosen sample locations. These sample points are designed to cover the domain as uniformly as possible to achieve better convergence rates than purely random points. Deterministic low-discrepancy sequences have been shown to outperform many competitors by guaranteeing good uniformity as measured by the so-called discrepancy metric, and, indirectly, by an integer t value relating the number of points falling into each domain stratum with the stratum area (lower t is better). To achieve randomness, scrambling techniques produce multiple realizations preserving the t value, making the construction stochastic. Among them, Owen scrambling is a popular approach that recursively permutes intervals for each dimension. However, relying on permutation trees makes it incompatible with smooth optimization frameworks. We present a differentiable Owen scrambling that regularizes permutations. We show that it can effectively be used with automatic differentiation tools for optimizing low-discrepancy sequences to improve metrics such as optimal transport uniformity, integration error, designed power spectra or projective properties, while maintaining their initial t -value as guaranteed by Owen scrambling. In some rendering settings, we show that our optimized sequences improve the rendering error.

A well-known and simple game to model markets is the glove game where worth is produced by building matching pairs. For glove games, different concepts, like the Shapley value, the component restricted Shapley value or the Owen value, yield different distributions of worth. While the Shapley value does not distinguish between productive and unproductive agents in the market and the component restricted Shapley value does not consider imbalancedness of the market, the Owen value accounts for both. As computational effort for Shapley-based allocation rules is generally high, this note provides a computationally efficient formula for the Owen value (and the component restricted Shapley value) for glove games in case of minimal winning coalitions. A comparison of the efficient formulas highlights the above-mentioned differences.

Computing Shapley values for large cooperative games is an NP-hard problem. For practical applications, stochastic approximation via permutation sampling is widely used. In the context of machine learning applications of the Shapley value, the concept of antithetic sampling has become popular. The idea is to employ the reverse permutation of a sample in order to reduce variance and accelerate convergence of the algorithm. We study this approach for the Shapley and Banzhaf values, as well as for the Owen value which is a solution concept for games with precoalitions. We combine antithetic samples with established stratified sampling algorithms. Finally, we evaluate the performance of these algorithms on four different types of cooperative games.

Discovering critical nodes in social networks has many important applications. For finding out the critical nodes and considering the widespread community structure in social networks, we obtain each node’s marginal contribution by Owen value. And then we can give a method for the solution of the critical node problem. We validate the feasibility and effectiveness of our method on two synthetic datasets and six real datasets. At the same time, the result obtained by using our method to analyze the terrorist network is in line with the actual situation.

The Shapley-Owen value (SOV, Owen and Shapley 1989, Optimal location of candidates in ideological space. International Journal of Game Theory 125–42), a generalization of the Shapley-Shubik value applicable to spatial voting games, is an important concept in that it takes us away from a priori concepts of power to notions of power that are directly tied to the ideological proximity of actors. SOVs can also be used to locate the spatial analogue to the Copeland winner, the strong point, the point with smallest win-set, which is a plausible solution concept for games without cores. However, for spatial voting games with many voters, until recently, it was too computationally difficult to calculate SOVs, and thus, it was impossible to find the strong point analytically. After reviewing the properties of the SOV, such as the result proven by Shapley and Owen that size of win sets increases with the square of distance as we move away from the strong point along any ray, we offer a computer algorithm for computing SOVs that can readily find such values even for legislatures the size of the U.S. House of Representatives or the Russian Duma. We use these values to identify the strong point and show its location with respect to the uncovered set, for several of the U.S. congresses analyzed in Bianco, Jeliazkov, and Sened (2004, The limits of legislative actions: Determining the set of enactable outcomes given legislators preferences. Political Analysis 12:256–76) and for several sessions of the Russian Duma. We then look at many of the experimental committee voting games previously analyzed by Bianco et al. (2006, A theory waiting to be discovered and used: A reanalysis of canonical experiments on majority-rule decision making. Journal of Politics 68:838–51) and show how outcomes in these games tend to be points with small win sets located near to the strong point. We also consider how SOVs can be applied to a lobbying game in a committee of the U.S. Senate.

The obtained value does not satisfy the classical total power property, which is justified by the imperfect cooperation. Nevertheless, it is monotonous in the weights. We also obtain three different characterizations of the value. Then we relate it to the Owen multilinear extension.

Abstract (sommario):

A cooperative game represents a situation in which a set of agents form coalitions in order to achieve a common good. To allocate the benefits of the result of this cooperation there exist several values such as the Shapley value or the Banzhaf value. Sometimes it is considered that not all communications between players are feasible and a graph is introduced to represent them. Myerson (1977) introduced a Shapley-type value for these situations. Another model for cooperative games is the Owen model, Owen (1977), in which players that have similar interests form a priori unions that bargain as a block in order to get a fair payoff. The model of cooperation introduced in this paper combines these two models following Casajus (2007). The situation consists of a communication graph where a two-step value is defined. In the first step a negotiation among the connected components is made and in the second one players inside each connected component bargain. This model can be extended to fuzzy contexts such as proximity relations that consider leveled closeness between agents as we proposed in 2016. There are two extensions of the Banzhaf value to the Owen model, because the natural way loses the group symmetry property. In this paper we construct an appropriate value to extend the symmetric option for situations with a proximity relation and provide it with an axiomatization. Then we apply this value to a political situation.

Wheat straw (WS) is used extensively for sheep feeding in Iran. The nutritive value of wheat straw is low and characterized by low crud protein and low available energy contents. Chemical treatments have often been used to increase the nutritive value of cereal straws (Sundstol & owen, 1984). It has been reported that the ammoniation of these straws increased dry matter intake and the daily gain of ruminants. In addition, Alkali treatment with Ca(OH)2 are effective and economically feasible for cereal straws (Sundstol & owen, 1984). The present investigation was conducted to determine the effect of treated WS with Urea and Ca(OH)2 or molasses on voluntary intake and growth rate of Iranian Baloochi lambs.

The anaerobic digestion is a basic technique in reducing bio-sludge. The eficiency process anaerob doing based on value ratio COD and BOD. One simple test for knowing biochemical methane potential was developed in 1779 by Owen group. A study on BMP (Biochemical Methane Potential) and ATA (Anaerobic Toxicity Assay) on bio-sludge were carried out in this research. The effect of pretreatment to biodegradability and toxicity were also studied The results of experiments showed that toxicity of raw bio-sludge, ozonation, and sonication on bio-sludge have no toxic effect to the production rate of gas on low concentration (around 4%), but it has been toxic on higher concentration. The potential measurement of methane production that was developed by Owen et al., was not accurate enough to be applied on bio-sludge. The extended ATA measurements gave a better result especially on low concentration (around 4%) or on COD level around 1.500 mg/L. Based on extended ATA measurement, biochemical methane production was relatively high as biodegradability valued around 62%. Uji efisiensi proses anaerob selama ini dilakukan berdasarkan nilai rasio nilai COD dan BOD. Pada tahun 1979, kelompok Owen mengembangkan suatu uji sederhana untuk mengetahui potensi pembentukan metana biokimia yang relatif lebih mewakili kondisi anaerob sebenarnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan metoda uji potensi pembentukan metana terhadap biolumpur. yakni berdasarkan uji ATA (Anaerobic Toxicity Assay) lanjutan dan metoda BMP (Biochemical Methane Potential) yang dikembangkan oleh kelompok Owen. Selain itu, dalam penelitian ini juga dilakukan uji tingkat racun (ATA). Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa tingkat racun biolumpur segar, biolumpur hasil ozonasi, dan biolumpur hasil sonikasi cenderung tidak menghambat laju produksi gas pada konsentrasi rendah (4%), namun bersifat raczm pada konsentrasi lebih tinggi, untuk biolumpur, perhitungan potensi pembentukan metana dengan metoda BMP yang dikembangkan oleh kelompok Owen kurang tepat, namun uji ATA lanjutan memberikan hasil lebih baik, terutama pada konsentrasi uji yang rendah (sekitar 4 %) atau pada beban COD berkisar 1.500 mg/L. In this paper, we explore the issue of profit distribution for water resources collaborative alliances that are composed of one single water rights transfer sector and several water resources requirement sectors. Considering the dominant position of the water rights transfer sector in water resources cooperation, we propose a novel 3-step approach on profit distribution for coalitions by applying game theory for interactions that include coalition structures and permission structures. We examine the effectiveness of this approach by a case study of water rights cooperation between the agriculture sector and agroindustrial sectors of the Karoon river basin in Iran. The results show that this approach allows players who have veto rights to obtain more payoffs from the coalition’s profit distribution in contrast to using the Owen value. In other words, the distribution results of the 3-step approach reflect the advantage held by the water rights transfer sector based on its veto power. Further, our proposed 3-step approach takes the permission structure among a priori unions into consideration when distributing the profits of the water resources coalition while the P-Owen value considers only the permission structure among players.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to narratively explore the influence of leader narcissism on leader/follower social exchange. Moreover, while researchers acknowledge that narcissistic personality is a dimensional construct, the preponderance of extant literature approaches the concept of narcissistic leadership categorically by focusing on the reactive or constructive narcissistic extremes. This bimodal emphasis ignores self-deceptive forms of narcissistic leadership, where vision orientation and communication could differ from leaders with more reactive or constructive narcissistic personalities. Design/methodology/approach The authors argue that they encountered a compelling example of a communal, self-deceiving narcissist during archival research of Robert Owen’s collective experiment at New Harmony, Indiana. To explore Owen’s narcissistic leadership, they utilize an analytically structured history approach to interpret his leadership, as he conveyed his vision of social reform in America. Findings Approaching data from a ‘history to theory’ perspective and via a communicative lens, the authors use insights from their abductive analysis to advance a cross-paradigm, communication-centered process model of narcissistic leadership that accounts for the full dimensional nature of leader narcissism and the relational aspects of narcissistic leadership. Research limitations/implications Scholars maintaining a positivist stance might consider this method a limitation, as historical case-based research places greater emphasis on reflexivity than replication. However, from a constructionist perspective, a focus on generalization might be considered inappropriate or premature, potentially hampering the revelation of insights. Originality/value Through a multi-paradigmatic analysis of the historical case of Robert Owen and his visionary communal experiment at New Harmony, the authors contribute to the extant literature by elaborating a comprehensive, dimensional and relational process framework of narcissistic leadership. In doing so, the authors have heeded calls to better delineate leader narcissism, embrace process and relational aspects of leadership and consider leader communication as constitutive of leadership.

Abstract (sommario):

There is limited information on Irrawaddy dolphins (Orcaella brevirostris) in the Bay of Brunei, Brunei Darussalam. This research was carried out from 2016 to 2018 to determine the water surface behaviour of Irrawaddy dolphins in the bay, the relationship between behaviour and abiotic factors and the number of individuals displaying the behaviour. Behavioural categories, i.e., feeding, socializing, and travelling in groups or individually, and water parameters were documented during boat-based line transect surveys. “Feeding” (n = 188) behaviour was the dominant activity exhibited by the dolphins. The chi-square test (χ2) shows that the frequency of feeding, socializing, and travelling to the water depth range is significantly high (p-value = 0.03). Forty-six percent (46%) of all behavioural categories occurred at depths 1.00–5.99 m. The number of individuals displaying “feeding” behaviour has a weak positive relationship with depth (p-value = 0.07), turbidity (p-value = 0.7), sea surface temperature (p-value = 0.9) and salinity (p-value = 0.9). This study may serve as a baseline for future research. It can help in planning conservation projects and management for Irrawaddy dolphins in the Bay of Brunei, Brunei Darussalam.

In Iran, wheat straw which is produced in huge amounts has been used in animal feed. However, the use of straw as animal feed is limited by its low nutritional value and its low nitrogen content. Various chemical delignification methods to improve the digestibility of straw have extensively investigated (Sundstol and Owen, 1984). Biological methods of treating straw using fungi such as white-rot-fungi have also been reported (Zadrazil, 1984). The solid state fermentation (SSF) of wheat straw with white-rot fungi is a complex process which is influenced by factors such as the species of fungus, substrate, temperature and moisture (Zadrazil, 1984). The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of pre-treating the straw with urea and incubation with two species of Pleurotus fungi on the chemical composition and digestibility of wheat straw.

The length-weight relationship and condition factor of two hundred and seventy-one samples of Protopterus annectens (Owen, 1839) from Orashi and Sombreiro Rivers were investigated. The length-weight relationship calculated for the species gave an average “b” value of 1.0943 which is an indication of negative allometric growth. The fish attained an average length of 44.7 cm and weight of 150.2 g. The Condition factor varied from 0.10 to 0.19 with a mean of 0.15±0.02. The aim of this paper is to analyze the interconnections between employment and unionization. We will also see how unemployment benefits drive the interplay of employment and unionization. The basic input into our model stems from cooperative game theory. Building on the Shapley value, several values for TU games with coalition structures have been presented in the literature, most notably by Aumann and Drèze and Owen. We present a value that is capable of dealing with unemployment and unionization. We show that unemployment benefits increase wages but contribute to unemployment, that unemployment can be voluntary, and that unions tend to be beneficial for employed workers if there is overstaffing.

This study aims to produce learning media, namely interactive multimedia with web-based, in the Soil Measuring Science course in Building Engineering Education Study Program. Interactive multimedia developed is a tutorial model with a function as a complement in learning. The method used in this research is research and development that refers to the Lee and Owens instructional design model. The Lee and Owen model consists of five stages, including assessment / analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data analysis techniques in this study used a questionnaire (questionnaire) to collect data from needs analysis, validation of media and material experts, and product evaluation by users. The results of this development research in the form of five interactive multimedia, interactive multimedia is validated by two media experts and two material experts. Based on the results of the validation by media experts, a value of 81% is categorized as very feasible, and based on the results of the validation by the material experts, a score of 84.41% is obtained. The user assessment results get a value of 4.79 included in the excellent category. Based on these values this media can already be used in the Soil Measuring Science course.

In the paper, we propose three schemes of nonadditive integration based on several extensions of nonadditive set function and integrand to the appropriate symmetric power of the original measurable space. A survey on the integral representation of some classic objects of the cooperative game theory, derived by nonadditive integration, is given. A universal approach for investigation of both finite and infinite games is developed. We pay a particular attention to the Shapley value, Owen multilinear extension, and support function of the core of a convex cooperative game.

Using the experimental transferred and anisotropic supertransferred hyperfine interactions, with the configuration interaction model of covalent bonding for the linear bonds of M2+(3dσ)–F−(2pσ)–Cd2+(4pσ) and M2+(3dπ)–F−(2pπ)–Cd2+(4pπ) existing in crystals of CsCdF3: M2+ (where M = Mn or Ni), suggests that fσ, the σ-type spin transfer parameter for the Mn2+–F− bond, is about 3.1%. This value is much larger than estimates from neutron scattering data, although it is in reasonable agreement with the works of Ziaei and Owen, and Rinneberg and Shirley.

AbstractAn attempt has been made to describe the effects of geothermal viscosity with viscous dissipation on the three dimensional time dependent boundary layer flow of magnetic nanofluids due to a stretchable rotating plate in the presence of a porous medium. The modelled governing time dependent equations are transformed a from boundary value problem to an initial value problem, and thereafter solved by a fourth order Runge-Kutta method in MATLAB with a shooting technique for the initial guess. The influences of mixed temperature, depth dependent viscosity, and the rotation strength parameter on the flow field and temperature field generated on the plate surface are investigated. The derived results show direct impact in the problems of heat transfer in high speed computer disks (Herrero et al. [1]) and turbine rotor systems (Owen and Rogers [2]).

We identify the real and social costs associated with neighborhood blight by creating unique neighborhood blight indices based on average individual property blight scores in Memphis, Tennessee. Both individual property blight scores and neighborhood blight indices negatively impact single-family sale prices and assessed valuations. We validate the data accuracy of a 2016 blight survey, finding that supplemental information collected for each property accurately predicts its assigned blight score. We apply factor analysis, Shapley-Owen decomposition, and hedonic regressions to identify blight drivers that include neighborhood demographic and economic factors associated with both individual property and neighborhood blight. We find that blight scores provide informational value in addition to county assessor and data for each property and census data for each neighborhood. We quantify neighborhood characteristics and demographic factors impacting both individual property and neighborhood blight effects on neighborhood esthetics and property values that helps identify blight resolution alternatives.

In this paper, we introduce an extension of (TU) games with a coalition structure. Taking a situation where all coalitions are already established is not reasonable in order to forecast the reality; there is not only one possible coalition, there are several. We consider situations where coalitions are not established yet and take into account the likelihood of each possible coalition. This leads to a generalized, probabilistic setting for coalition structures. Probabilistic versions of known axioms as efficiency, symmetry or the null player axiom are introduced as well as new probabilistic axioms, the probabilistic influence axioms. The focus is on a generalization of the outside-option-sensitive χ-value in the new setting and an axiomatic characterization of it. The problematic of the impossibility of a direct axiomatization via deterministic pendants is discussed: As an example for a direct characterization we introduce and characterize a probabilistic version of the outside-option-insensitive pendant of the χ-value, the component restricted Shapley value. As another example for an outside-option-sensitive value without direct characterization we introduce a probabilistic version of the Owen value and show that a direct characterization is not possible; we link this to the problem of component decomposability.

Energy storage (ES) units are vital for the reliable and economical operation of the power system with a high penetration of renewable distributed generators (DGs). Due to ES’s high investment costs and long payback period, energy management with shared ESs becomes a suitable choice for the demand side. This work investigates the sharing mechanism of ES units for low-voltage (LV) energy prosumer (EP) communities, in which energy interactions of multiple styles among the EPs are enabled, and the aggregated ES dispatch center (AESDC) is established as a special energy service provider to facilitate the scheduling and marketing mechanism. A shared ES operation framework considering multiple EP communities is established, in which both the energy scheduling and cost allocation methods are studied. Then a shared ES model and energy marketing scheme for multiple communities based on the leader–follower game is proposed. The Karush–Kuhn–Tucker (KKT) condition is used to transform the double-layer model into a single-layer model, and then the large M method and PSO-HS algorithm are used to solve it, which improves convergence features in both speed and performance. On this basis, a cost allocation strategy based on the Owen value method is proposed to resolve the issues of benefit distribution fairness and user privacy under current situations. A case study simulation is carried out, and the results show that, with the ES scheduling strategy shared by multiple renewable communities in the leader–follower game, the energy cost is reduced significantly, and all communities acquire benefits from shared ES operators and aggregated ES dispatch centers, which verifies the advantageous and economical features of the proposed framework and strategy. With the cost allocation strategy based on the Owen value method, the distribution results are rational and equitable both for the groups and individuals among the multiple EP communities. Comparing it with other algorithms, the presented PSO-HS algorithm demonstrates better features in computing speed and convergence. Therefore, the proposed mechanism can be implemented in multiple scenarios on the demand side.

Aspects of the biology of the African lungfish, Protopterus annectens (Owen, 1839) from Orashi and Sombreiro Rivers in Rivers State, Nigeria were investigated using routine biological approaches. Samples were collected between October 2012 and September 2013. The analysis of the stomach content showed that the fish from both rivers fed mainly on detritus, which accounted for 100% of the stomachs examined. Other food items included remains of higher plants, filamentous algae and diatoms. A sex ratio of 1:1 male: female was observed, although, females were more predominant than males during the greater part of the year, corresponding to rainy season. The proportion of males in the catch gradually increased as females reduced in number with the approach of the dry season. The GSI showed peak in the months of January, February and March. There was a decline from April to June as the fish had finished spawning. The monthly changes in GSI suggest that the fish had distinct period of maturity and breeding. The fish were found to be highly fecund. The individual/absolute fecundity ranged from 32,009 to 147,003 with a mean value of 6,653. Relative fecundity ranged from 362 to 529g-1 body weight. The fecundity profile of P. annectens shows that the fish has a remarkable reproductive potential in the two Rivers.Keywords: Detritus, gonado-somatic index, fecundity, Protopterus annectens
