ABSTRACT Aim: The study aimed to compare the outcomes of Open Reduction and Cannulated Screw Fixation (ORCF) and Open Reduction and Tension Band Wire Fixation (ORTF) for treating minimally displaced patellar fractures, with the intention to discern the more efficacious surgical method in terms of various clinical and radiographic parameters. Methods: The research was a retrospective controlled trial encompassing 63 patients, culminating in a final data set of 52 patients with transverse patellar fractures with less than 8 mm of displacement. Patients were assessed postoperatively at three, six, and twelve months using measures such as the Lysholm score, Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for pain, and goniometry for active knee extensions and flexion. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 22.0. Results: Results indicated superior clinical outcomes for the ORCF group at twelve months post-treatment, with notable higher Lysholm scores and lower VAS scores for pain at three-, six-, and twelve-month intervals. The ORCF group also demonstrated improved flexion and range of motion, with an average fracture healing time of 2.65 months and significantly lower complication rates, compared to the ORTF group. Conclusions: The ORCF method, leveraging headless compression screws and cerclage wire fixation, emerges as a promising approach for managing minimally displaced transverse patellar fractures, potentially offering improved clinical results and patient satisfaction in comparison to the traditional ORTF method. Further expansive and diverse studies are warranted to substantiate these findings.

The French National Audiovisual Institute has been responsible since 1974 for the preservation of the audiovisual heritage produced by national broadcasting corporation (or “Office de radio et television française”: ORTF, for French radio and television corporation). The massive digitalization of these collections in the 1990s, the native digital capture of 120 channels since 2001, the opening of a “general public” website in 2006, are some of the steps taken by the Institute to progressively take into account the digital technologies to benefit the audiovisual preservation. This proposal of presentation would provide an update on the evolution of our processing, concerning most specifically a multi-year project which aims, linked to a new big data policy, to harmonize descriptive metadata according to common thesaurus and to streamline production processes as well as to promote new uses of these contents within the Institute (partial automation of documentary processing by automatic detecting of quoted or represented entities (faces, names, …), automatic articulation of documentary and legal metadata, …), but also outside of the Institute (online access to open data, access to media by technical data mining, …).

Kendang Jawa merupakan alat musik tradisional Jawa dalam kesatuan ensambel gamelan Jawa, yang biasanya dimainkan untuk acara tradisi. Kendang Jawa memiliki tiga bagian berdasarkan ukurannya yaitu bem (besar), batangan (sedang) dan ketipung (kecil). Melalui kemajuan teknologi perekaman, pengembangan dan pelestarian kesenian musik Nusantara dapat terus digiatkan. Kualitas perekaman sangat ditentukan oleh penempatan mikrofon yang digunakan. Sedikitnya kajian terhadap pentingnya tata letak mikrofon dan jarak dalam perekaman kendang Jawa menjadi masalah yang memerlukan perhatian. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengevaluasi penilaian subjektif naracoba terhadap teknik perekaman stereo pada kendang Jawa. Metode kualitatif digunakan untuk menganalisis preferensi naracoba ahli dan non-ahli. Perekaman 16 sampel audio dilakukan menggunakan empat teknik perekaman stereo yaitu XY 90º, AB, ORTF dan Mid-side dengan empat variabel jarak di Studio Lokananta, Surakarta. Sampel perekaman diujikan secara subjektif terhadap 40 naracoba. Studi ini mengungkapkan bahwa preferensi naracoba ahli dan non ahli adalah teknik XY 90º. Sebanyak 73% naracoba ahli menyukai perekaman kendang Jawa dengan teknik XY 90º pada jarak 1 meter. Kejelasan bunyi yang tinggi dan citra stereo seimbang merupakan faktor krusial pada teknik ini. Hasil penelitian ini berkontribusi pada pemahaman bahwa aspek impresi ruang dan waktu dengung yang rendah menjadi salah satu kriteria dalam menentukan kualitas bunyi perekaman kendang Jawa.

AbstractThe year 1958 witnessed the birth of the institution GRM, nurtured by the French Radio and Television service (RTF). However, the fifty years of the GRM cannot be dissociated from the preceding period, datable from 1942, when Pierre Schaeffer began experiments with radiophonic sound which led him to musique concrète while bringing into existence the institutional infrastructure of the group. We can therefore see the Studio d'Essai (1942–46), the Club d'Essai (1946–60) with its Groupe de Recherche de Musique Concrète (GRMC, 1951–58) as forebears of the GRM. The fundamental principle, which lies in working with sonic material directly on the recording media through a precise listening to recorded elements, led Schaeffer to affirm that there is another way to access music other than from notation.He used this powerful idea as the fixed point on the compass for all his research. Linked from its origins to the broadcasting services – RTF until 1964, ORTF up to 1974, then INA ever since – the GRM has constantly adapted its theories and its ideas to successive technological developments: smooth disks (shellac records), magnetic tape, computer memory. A fruitful period at the Service de la Recherche (1960–75) allowed Schaeffer and his team to systematically examine the world of sounds from their own listening experience. The Traité des Objets Musicaux (Treatise of Musical Objects) bears witness to this research. Since 1975 another adventure has been under way: that of the preservation and making available of works and discoveries gathered over the years – an exceptional heritage which continues to grow and interest an ever larger public.

Bernhard Waldenfels unterscheidet zwischen einem Raum, in den sich jemand einordnet und zu dem er gehört, und einem Ort, an dem sich jemand befindet. Das Subjekt ist also an einem Ort und bewegt sich gleichzeitig in einem Raum. In der Regel besteht eine ausgewogene Spannung zwischen dem Ort und der Verteilung im Raum. Gerät dieses Verhältnis aus dem Gleichgewicht, entstehen Orte ohne Raum und Räume ohne Orte. Letzteres bezeichnet einen Raum, in dem es keine singulären Kennzeichnungen gibt, kein individuelles oder situatives Hier und Jetzt, wodurch die Existenz eines Ich im Sinne eines Individuums fragwürdig wird. Orte ohne Räume dagegen bezeichnen eine Reduzierung auf ein Hier und Jetzt, wobei der Raum als Faktor der Zugehörigkeit abhandenkommt, was letztendlich ebenso zu einer Abwesenheit eines Ich führt, da eine Verortung oder Einordnung in einen Raum der Zugehörigkeit nicht möglich ist. Der Aufsatz ist der Versuch, diesen raumtheoretischen Ansatz für die Analyse literarischer Texte zu operationalisieren, in deren Mittelpunkt Flüchtende stehen.

Objectives:The aim of this study was to estimate thresholds for production volume, durability, and cost of care for the cost-effective adoption of liver organ replacement technologies (ORTs).Methods:We constructed a discrete-event simulation model of the liver allocation system in the United States. The model was calibrated against UNOS data (1994–2000). Into this model, we introduced ORTs with varying durability (time to failure), cost of care, and production volume. Primary outputs of interest were time to 5 percent reduction in the waiting list and time to 5 percent increase in expected transplant volume.Results:Model output for both calibration and validation phases closely matched published data: waiting list length (±2 percent), number of transplants (±2 percent), deaths while waiting (±5 percent), and time to transplant (±11 percent). Reducing the waiting list was dependent on both ORT durability and production volume. The longer the durability, the less production volume needed to reduce the waiting list and vice versa. However, below 250 ORT/year, durability needed to be >2 years for any significant change to be seen in the waiting list. For base-case costs, all ORT production volume and durability scenarios result in more transplants per year at less total cost of care/patient than the current system. ORTs remain cost saving until manufacturing costs are >5 times base-case costs, production is less 500 ORT/year, and durability <6 months.Conclusions:Although there remain many technical challenges to overcome, as long as ORTs can meet these threshold criteria, they have the potential of transforming the world of end-stage liver disease.

Category: Ankle, Basic Sciences/Biologics, Hindfoot, Biomechanics Introduction/Purpose: Orthotics are commonly prescribed by orthopaedic surgeons to address the hindfoot and midfoot deformity resulting from posterior tibial tendon dysfunction. The public however will often purchase over the counter orthotics for generalized complaints of foot pain that is not associated with any significant deformity or foot pathology. The mechanical axis of the lower limb may be altered in patients who use orthotics despite a normal foot alignment. We hypothesize that patients with normal alignment who use orthotics may adversely change ankle and subtalar joint orientation and load distribution. Methods: Five fresh frozen lower limb cadaveric specimens without known skeletal condition were used. The femoral head was potted with PMMA and TekScan pressure sensors were inserted into the ankle and subtalar joint. The specimens were placed on a custom jig, which allowed for load cell modulated loading of the leg; 75 lb load (half body weight) was applied at the femoral head while the foot was supported against a fixed plate keeping the ankle in neutral position. Testing was achieved by placing an orthotic under the medial half of the plantar talonavicular joint level. Mean pressure (MP), peak pressure (PP), contact area (CA), and center of force (COF) were measured in both the ankle and subtalar joints under three conditions; barefoot (BASE), with a 1.5 cm (ORT1) and 3 cm (ORT2) height orthotic. Each condition was tested three times per specimen. Displacement of COF was calculated relative to its location at baseline. Results: The MP, PP and CA showed a constant decrease from BASE to ORT1 and ORT2. Despite this relation, the only comparison that was significantly different was that between peak pressure values of the baseline and ORT2 conditions of the subtalar joint. The average displacement of COF from BASE was 0.14 mm and 0.42 mm medially, and 0.26 mm and 0.46 mm posteriorly at the ankle joint with ORT1 and ORT2 respectively. The average displacement of COF from BASE was 0.03 mm laterally and 0.08 mm posteriorly with ORT1, and 0.2 mm medially and 0.46 mm posteriorly with ORT2 at the subtalar joint. Conclusion: Foot deformities have an impact on the articular forces in the lower limb. Our results agree with previous studies about the role of foot deformity on the distribution of body weight forces and its consequences across the ankle and subtalar joint. Our novel study also demonstrates that orthotics and orthotics of varying sizes can change the mean pressure, peak pressure, contact area center of force in the ankle and subtalar joint. This study proves the feasibility of its design for studying intra-articular pressure changes in a lower limb cadaveric model with simulated weight bearing.

Injection drug user can be the gateway of various disease transmission such as hepatitis andHIV - AIDS. Many of injection drug users did therapy, but in fact there are still users who return to usedrug called recurrence or relapse. An important factor to help and save the drug users in order to getrid of the addicted is coping eff ort consisted of problem management and emotional regulation.The aimof this study was to fi nd out the relationship between coping eff ort with the eff ort of injection drug usersto recover theirself in Surabaya Orbit Foundation. This study used an observational study design andcross sectional study. The sample of this research determined by simple random sampling. Informationobtained through the questionnaire that read to the 34 respondents. The majority of respondents inthe study is male and work as a private employee, especially in the drugs area. Respondents aged areproductive and follow therapy 1–5 years. Respondents have a good coping eff ort and very good in anattempt to recover theirself from drug addicted. The results showed the value of p = 0,001 and r = 0,546.There is strong relationsip between coping eff orts and the eff ort of injection drug users to recovertheirself in Surabaya orbit foundation.Keywords: IDU, recover theirself, coping

Kanas und Manzey 1 sowie Kanas et al. 2 haben in diesem Zusammenhang u. a. auf das mögliche Auftreten eines „Earth-out-of-view-phenomenon“ hingewiesen. Ich möchte in diesem Beitrag folgender Frage nachgehen: Wie verhält es sich auf dem Mond oder Mars mit dem „sense of place“, diesem so wichtigen Gefühl der Verbundenheit eines Menschen mit einem Ort? Kann der Mensch auf dem Mond oder Mars diese emotionale Verbundenheit mit dem Ort entwickeln? Wie werden die neuen Landschaften und Orte von ihm wahrgenommen werden? Welche Rolle könnten Planetologen übernehmen?

Dès les années 1960, dans le contexte de la télédistribution française, des artistes profitent d’accéder à des équipements sophistiqués pour explorer le potentiel plastique de l’image électronique et mener leurs propres recherches visuelles. À la croisée du cinéma expérimental ou militant, des mouvements d’avant-garde et de l’art cinétique, ces pratiques marginales ne répondent pas aux normes du réalisme photographique ou de la vraisemblance illusionniste qui régissent la production audiovisuelle mainstream. Comment trouver sa place dans une structure vouée toute entière à la distribution de produits formatés conçus pour susciter l’adhésion du téléspectateur ? Comment s’infiltrer dans les brèches d’une industrie résolument hostile à tout écart optique et symbolique ? Les choix stratégiques des artistes qui œuvrent sur le territoire de la télédistribution découlent en grande partie des mutations économiques qui ont entraîné la transformation du paysage audiovisuel français, du démantèlement de l’ORTF à la privatisation partielle du réseau de télédiffusion. Face à la rigidité des standards imposés par les mass media, le détournement apparaît bien vite comme une solution pour se fondre dans l’environnement audiovisuel tout en façonnant des « contre-images » satiriques. Le désir d’explorer l’image cathodique se trouve alors supplanté par celui de pirater la rhétorique et l’espace médiatiques. Cependant, dès lors que l’image est perçue comme une agora à investir, il devient difficile de se soustraire à l’économie coercitive de « la société du spectacle »From the early 1960s, within the context of French television broadcasting, some artists seize opportunities to reach advanced technologies, allowing them to explore the aesthetic potential of the electronic image as well as to lead their own visual research. At the crossroads of experimental or activist cinema, avant-garde movements and kinetic art, all of these marginal practices tend to ignore the norm of the so-called realistic image and the deceptive verisimilitude which rule the audio-visual mainstream. How to find a place within a structure entirely devoted to the distribution of stereotyped products designed to attract the largest segment of TV consumers? How to infiltrate inside the gaps of an industry resolutely hostile to the slightest visual and ideological glitch? The diverse strategies of the artists who chose to work within the field of television broadcasting are highly influenced by the economic mutations that transformed the French audio-visual landscape, from the dismantling of the ORTF to the partial privatization of the TV network. Facing the rigidity of the standards dictated by the mass media, the concept of “détournement” – or “diversion” –quickly appears to be a solution to blend into the audio-visual environment while continuing to shape satirical “counter-images”. The wish to explore the cathode-ray image as a medium is then supplanted by the desire to hack into the media network and its rhetoric. Nevertheless, as soon as the image is regarded as a public space to colonize, it becomes difficult to escape the coercive economy of the entertainment world

Nesta tese foram estudadas várias rotas para obtenção α e o-quinona metídios, e foram obtidas 30 substâncias inéditas. A rota via condensação aldólica com a β-lapachona (4a) produziu as seguintes o-quinonas metídios contendo grupos puxadores de elétrons (ex. carbonilas): 2,2-dimetil-6-(1-metil-2-oxo-propilideno)-2,3,4,6-tetraidro-benzo[h]cromen-5-ona (67); 2,2-dimetil-6-(2-oxo-butilideno)-2,3,4,6-tetraidro-benzo[h]cromen-5-ona (68); 2,2-Dimetil-6-(1-carboxi etil-3-oxo-2-butirideno) 2,3,4,6-tetraidro-benzo [h]cromen-5-ona (69a) e 2,2-Dimetil-6-(1-carboxi etil-3-oxo-4-butirideno) 2,3,4,6-tetraidro-benzo [h]cromen-5-ona (69b). Em continuidade aos estudos foi desenvolvida uma síntese em uma etapa de 1-diazo-1H,2H-naftaleno-2-onas a partir de 1,2-naftoquinonas p-toluenossulfonil hidrazina em metanol a temperatura ambiente. Por este procedimento foram produzidas as seguintes substâncias: 6-diazo-2,2-dimetil-2,3,4,6-tetraidro-benzo [h] cromen-5-ona (70); 5-diazo-3-diidro-2,2-dimetil-4-oxa-2H,3H-nafto[1,2-b]furano (71); 1-diazo-2-oxa-1H,2H-naftaleno (73); 1,2-dicloro-3-Oxo-4-diazo-3,4-diidro-naftaleno (75); 1-metoxi-4-diazo-3-oxa-1H,2H-naftaleno (76); ácido 6-diazo-2,2-dimetil-oxa-2,3,4,6-5-tetraidro-2H-benzo[h]cromeno-3-sulfônico (78); 2,2-dimetil-3-hidroxi-6-diazo-5-oxa-2,3,4,6-tetraidro-2H-benzo[h] cromene-5-ona (80); 4-diazo-3-oxa-1-sulfonato-1H,2H-naftolato de sódio (82). A diazo lapachona 70 foi testada contra o Trypanossoma cruzi obtendo-se um valor de ED50/24 h = 4961,1 864,3 m que quando comparado com o valor de ED50/24 h do cristal violeta, mostrou-se que esta substância é inativa (ED50, cristal violeta/ ED50, de 70 = 0,1). As diazo lapachonas 70 e 71 foram testadas contra vários tipos de bactérias patogênicas e da mesma forma mostraram-se inativas. Os testes de atividades biológicas com 70 e 71 indicaram que a substituição de uma das carbonilas do sistema o-naftoquinonônico por um grupo diazo reduziu as suas capacidade de gerarem espécies reativas de oxigênio no interior dos microorganismos testados.
Several synthetic routes for preparing o-quinone methides were studied. By using an aldolic condensation route with β-lapachone (4a), it was possible to obtain the following o-quinone methides having electron withdrawing group (e.g. carbonyls): 2,2-dimethyl-6-(1-methyl-2-oxo-propylidene)-2,3,4,6-tetrahydro-benzo[H]chromen-5-one (67); 2,2-dimethyl-6-(2-oxo-butylidene)-2,3,4,6-tetrahydro-benzo[H]chromen-5-one (68); 2,2-Dimetil-6-(1-carboxi etil-3-oxo-2-butirideno) 2,3,4,6-tetraidro-benzo [H]cromen-5-ona (69a) e 2,2-Dimetil-6-(1-carboxi etil-3-oxo-4-butirideno) 2,3,4,6-tetraidro-benzo [H]cromen-5-ona (69b).In continuation of these studies, a new regiospecific one-step synthesis of 1-diazo-1H,2H-naphthalen-2-ones, from 1,2-naphthoquinones and p-toluenesulfonylhydrazine in methanol solution at room temperature, was developed. By using this procedures several new substances were prepared: 6-diazo-2,2-dimethyl-2,3,4,6-tetrahydro-benzo[h]chromen-5-one (70); 5-diazo-3-dihydro-2,2-dimethyl-4-oxa-2H,3H-naphthto[1,2-b]furan (71); 1-diazo-2-oxa-1H,2H-naphthalen (73); 1,2-dichloro-3-oxo-4-diazo-3,4-dihydro-naphthalen (75); 1-methoxi-4-diazo-3-oxa-1H,2H-naphthalen (76); 6-diazo-2,2-dimethyl-oxa-2,3,4,6-5-tetrahydro-2H-benzo[h]chromen-3-sulfonic acid (78); 2,2-dimethyl-3-hydroxi-6-diazo-5-oxa-2,3,4,6-tetrahydro-2H-benzo[h]chromen-5-one (80); sodium 4-diazo-3-oxa-1-sulfonate-1H,2H-naphtholate (82). The diazo β-lapachone (70) was tested against Trypanossoma cruzi yielding a value of ED50/24 h = 4961,1 864,3 m, which compared with crystal violet (ED50, crystal violet/ ED50, de 70 = 0,1) indicated that 70 is inactive. The diazo β-lapachones 70 and 71 were also tested against several type of phatogenic bacteria, but as before they were inactive.The preliminary biological tests with 70 and 71 indicated that the substitution of one of the carbonyl of the o-naphthoquinone moieties by a diazo group reduced the ability of the o-quinones to generate radical oxygen species (ROS) in side the microorganisms tested.

White spot syndrome is an acute conatgious disease whose etiologic agent is the White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) responsible for serious economic losses in world acquaculture. Since 2012, it has been notified WSSV occurrence in the state of Rio Grande do Norte - RN, one of most important shrimp production region. Despite its importance, there is a lack of information about the origins and biodiversity of circulating virus. The aim of investigation was to detect WSSV in Litopenaeus vannamei from farms in the RN as well as perform genotyping of the isolates. A total of five farms were surveyed, from which 10 samples were collected each one. We selected two ponds of each of the farms, chosen because clinical suspicion of WSSV. Genomic DNA was extracted to detect the virus by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Subsequently, was performed by PCR genotyping of the positive DNA samples analysing variable number of tandem repeats - VNTR in three molecular markers (ORFs 75, 94 and 125). The results revealed the presence of virus in only one of the 5 analyzed farms. The loci ORF 75 and ORF 94 were identified in isolates from positive farm and no amplification failure for ORF 125. The number of repeating units (RUs) was calculated, and found to 9 repetitions ORF 75 and 10 RUs to ORF 94, a pattern that had not been described, stressing the need for more strain typing for screening and surveillance of the disease
A síndrome da mancha branca é uma doença notificável cujo agente etiológico é o Vírus da Síndrome da Mancha Branca (White Spot Syndrome Virus - WSSV) responsável por graves perdas econômicas na carcinicultura mundial. Desde 2012, têm sido verificados registros oficiais da presença do vírus no estado do Rio Grande do Norte - RN , região de extensa produção camaroneira. Apesar da importância, pouca informação tem sido produzida quanto às origens e biodiversidade dos virus circulantes. Diante disso, objetivou-se investigar a presença do vírus em criações de Litopenaues vannamei oriundos de fazendas do RN, bem como realizar a genotipagem dos isolados. Um total de cinco fazendas foram submetidas ao estudo, das quais foram coletadas 10 amostras de cada. Foram selecionados dois viveiros de cada uma das fazendas, escolhidos mediante suspeita clínica de WSSV. O DNA genômico foi extraído para investigação da presença ou ausência do vírus através da reação em cadeia da polimerase (PCR). Posteriormente, foi realizada por PCR a genotipagem dos isolados utilizando as repetições em tandem de número variável – VNTR (ORFs 75, 94 e 125). Os resultados revelaram a presença do vírus em apenas uma das 5 fazendas analisadas. As regiões (ORF 75 e ORF 94) foram identificadas nos isolados da fazenda positiva e não houve amplificação para o ORF 125. O número de unidades repetidas (RUs) foi calculado, sendo verificado 9 repetições para o ORF 75 e 10 para o ORF 94, um padrão que ainda não havia sido descrito, alertando para a necessidade de mais isolados caracterizados geneticamente para o rastreamento e vigilância epidemiológica da doença

Insbesondere seit den 1990er Jahren ist international eine wachsende Bedeutung der Transiträume Tankstelle, Flughafen und Bahnhof als Einzelhandels- und Dienstleistungsstandorte zu beobachten. Vielfältige Gründe sowohl auf standortendogener als auch auf standortexogener Seite sind dafür verantwortlich. Nach einer vergleichenden Analyse der drei Transiträume auf allgemeiner Ebene wendet sich die Betrachtung der praktischen Umsetzung der Einzelhandelsansiedlung an den Standorten zu. Für die Flughäfen und Tankstellen geschieht dies mittels einer Literaturauswertung. Der Einzelhandelsstandort Bahnhof wird dagegen im Rahmen einer eigenen empirischen Studie im Großraum Berlin einer speziellen Prüfung unterzogen. Den Ausgangspunkt stellt ein deduktives Modell zum Versorgungsstandort Bahnhof dar, das die wichtigsten Einflussgrößen nennt und zueinander in Beziehung setzt. Ziel des Modells ist es, die Entwicklung eines Bahnhofs zu einem erfolgreichen Versorgungsstandort zu erleichtern. Außerdem hilft es, die Effekte der Bahnhofskommerzialisierung auf Standortcharakter und städtischen Raum abzuschätzen. Der Modellentwurf wird mit Hilfe einer Bestandsaufnahme auf Bahnhofs- und Angebotsseite und einer Besucherbefragung überprüft und inhaltlich konkretisiert, so dass schließlich ein verifiziertes Modell zum Versorgungsstandort Bahnhof vorliegt, das mit empirischen Daten und Planungshilfen untermauert ist und zur Anwendung bereitsteht.Since the 1990s there has been a growing significance of transit areas like gas stations, airports and railway stations as retail locations. This development is caused by various reasons. Having compared the three types of transit areas in general the thesis illustrates how the setting-up of retail in transit areas is put into practice. The shopping areas of airports and gas stations are presented on the basis of a literature review. The retail in railway stations is analysed by own research. Starting point of the study is a deductive model describing the railway station in its function as retail location. It shows the key elements of the retail system and their relations to each other. The model aims at facilitating the development of profitable shopping areas within railway stations and it helps assess the effects of the commercial using on the location''s character and its surroundings. To check and fill up the model with empirical data own surveys (inventory, interviews) have been carried out in the metropolitan area of Berlin. Eventually a verified model describing the railway station in its function as retail location exists. It is supported by empirical data and planning aids and ready for application.

Im Jubiläumsjahr der Christian-Weise-Bibliothek Zittau fand am 16. September 2014 der diesjährige Sächsische Werkstatttag für Bestandserhaltung in den Räumen dieser Bibliothek statt. Der Einladung nach Zittau in den östlichsten Teil des Freistaates Sachsen waren 57 Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer gefolgt. Dabei erstreckte sich das Teilnehmerfeld wie bereits in den vergangenen Jahren nicht allein auf Kultureinrichtungen des Freistaates Sachsen. Auch aus Sachsen-Anhalt, Berlin, Brandenburg und sogar aus Rheinland-Pfalz waren Interessenten angereist. Gerade der damit verbundene fachliche Austausch über die Landesgrenzen hinaus ist wichtig, um ein gut funktionierendes Netzwerk weiter auszubauen und um „Best Practice Beispiele“ auszutauschen.

Hauptanliegen der Dissertation ist es, einen Entwurf einer praktischen Ästhetik zu lancieren, der an der Schnittstelle zwischen philosophischer Ästhetik und Kunst – genauer Performancekunst - im Zeichen der Bezugsgrösse der Verletzbarkeit steht.
In jüngeren Ästhetikansätzen hat sich eine Auffassung herauskristallisiert, die nicht über, sondern mit Kunst reflektiert. Die Pointe im ‚Mit’ liegt darin, dass diese Ästhetiken die Kunst nicht erklären, sie bestimmen und damit ihre Bedeutung festlegen, sondern dass diese entlang der Kunst die Brüche, Widerstände und Zäsuren zwischen Wahrnehmen und Denken markieren und diese als produktiv bewerten. Diese Lesart etabliert ein Denken, das nicht aus der Distanz auf etwas schaut (theoria), sondern ästhetisch-reflektierend (zurückwendend, auch selbstkritisch) mit der Kunst denkt.
Die Disziplin der Ästhetik - als aisthesis: Lehre der sinnlichen Wahrnehmung - nimmt innerhalb der Philosophie eine besondere Stellung ein, weil sie auf ebendiese Differenz verweist und deshalb sinnliche und nicht nur logisch-argumentatorische Denkfiguren stärkt. Als eine Möglichkeit, die Kluft, das Nicht-Einholbare, die brüchige Unzulänglichkeit des begrifflich Denkenden gegenüber ästhetischer Erfahrung zu stärken, schlage ich die Bezugsgrösse der Verletzbarkeit vor. Eine solche Ästhetik besteht aus dem Kreieren verletzbarer Orte, wobei diese auf zweierlei Weisen umkreist werden: Zum einen aus der Kunstpraxis heraus anhand der ästhetischen Figur des verletzbaren Körpes, wie er sich in der zeitgenössischen Performance zeigt. Zum anderen als ein Kreieren von Begriffen im Bewusstsein ihrer Verletzbarkeit.
Ausgangspunkte sind die Denkentwürfe von Gilles Deleuze und Hans Blumenberg:
Die Ästhetik von Gilles Deleuze entwirft eine konkrete Überschneidungsmöglichkeit von Kunst und Philosophie, aus der sich meine These des Mit-Kunst-Denkens entwickeln lässt. Sie kann aus der Grundvoraussetzung des Deleuzeschen Denkens heraus begründet werden, die besagt, dass nicht nur die Kunst, sondern auch die Philosophie eine schöpferische Tätigkeit ist. Beide Disziplinen beruhen auf dem Prinzip der creatio continua, durch welche die Kunst Empfindungen und die Philosophie Begriffe schöpft, wobei eben genau dieser schöpferische Prozess Kunst und Philosophie in ein produktives Verhältnis zueinander treten lässt. Wie Deleuze seine Begriffsarbeit entlang künstlerischer Praxis entwickelt, wird anhand der Analyse des bis heute wenig rezipierten Textes Ein Manifest weniger in Bezug auf das Theater von Carmelo Bene analysiert.
Eine ganz anderen Zugang zum Entwurf einer praktischen Ästhetik liefert Hans Blumenberg, der eine Theorie der Unbegrifflichkeit in Aussicht stellt. Im Anschluss an seine Forderung, die Metapher wieder vermehrt in die philosophische Denkpraxis zu integrieren, radikalisiert er seine Forderung, auch das Nichtanschauliche zu berücksichtigen, indem er das gänzlich Unbegriffliche an die Seite des Begrifflichen stellt. Definitorische Schwäche zeigt sich als wahrhaftige Stärke, die in der Unbegrifflichkeit ihren Zenit erreicht. Der Schiffbruch wird von mir als zentrale Metapher – gewissermassen als Metapher der Metapher – verstanden, die das Auf-Grund-Laufen des Allwissenden veranschaulicht. Im Schiffbruch wird die produktive Kollision von Theorie und Praxis deutlich.
Deleuze und Blumenberg zeigen über ‚creatio continua’ und ‚Unbegrifflichkeit’ die Grenzen des Begreifens, indem sie betonen, dass sich Ästhetik nicht nur auf künstlerische Erfahrungen bezieht, sondern selber in das Gegenwärtigmachen von Erfahrungen involviert ist. Daraus folgt, dass ästhetische Reflexion nicht nur begrifflich agieren muss. Die praktische Ästhetik animiert dazu, andere darstellerische Formen (Bilder, Töne, Körper) als differente und ebenbürtige reflexive Modi anzuerkennen und sie als verletzbarmachende Formate der Sprache an die Seite zu stellen. Diese Lesart betont den gestalterischen Aspekt der Ästhetik selber.
Zur Verdeutlichung dieser Kluft zwischen (Körper-)Bild und Begriff ist der von mir mitgestaltete Film Augen blickeN der Dissertation als Kapitel beigefügt. Dieser Film zeigt Performer und Performerinnen, die sich bewusst entschieden haben, ihren ‚abweichenden’ Körper auf der Bühne zu präsentieren. Das Wort Verletzbarkeit verweist auf die paradoxe Situation, etwas Brüchiges tragfähig zu machen und dadurch auch auf eine besondere Beziehungsform und auf ein existenzielles Aufeinander-Verwiesensein der Menschen. Verletzbarkeit geht alle an, und stiftet deshalb eine Gemeinsamkeit besonderer Art. In diesem Sinne sind verletzbare Orte nicht nur ästhetische, sondern auch ethische Orte, womit die politische Dimension des Vorhabens betont wird.
Vulnerable Places. Outline of a practical aesthetics
The main thrust of the thesis is to launch the design for a practical aesthetics that would be situated at the interface between philosophical aesthetics and art – performance art, to be specific – with particular reference to the notion of vulnerability.
In more recent approaches to aesthetics a mode of thinking has emerged that engages in reflection not about art but rather with art. The point is for aesthetics not so much to explain and determine the meaning of art but rather to proceed alongside art in order to mark and appreciate the breaks, resistances and gaps between perception and thought. This way of reading establishes a kind of thinking that engages in aesthetic reflection with art (looking back onto itself, sometimes self-critically) rather than looking at something from a distance (theoria).
The discipline of aesthetics – in the sense of aisthesis, the theory of sense perception – has a special place within philosophy because it points towards exactly that difference, which strengthens sensual patterns of thought as opposed to those based on logical argument. I suggest the term vulnerability as a point of reference that will provide an opportunity to intensify the gap, the incommensurability, the fragile insufficiency of conceptual thought vis-à-vis aesthetic experience. Such an aesthetics consists in the creation of vulnerable places, revolving around them in two different circles: on the one hand approaching from the practice of art on the basis of the aesthetic figure of the vulnerable body as manifested in contemporary performance art, and on the other hand as the creation of terms and concepts with an awareness of their vulnerability.
The conceptual designs of Gilles Deleuze and Hans Blumenberg form points of departure for this argument:
Gilles Deleuze’ aesthetics outlines a concrete possibility of overlap between art and philosophy, on the basis of which my hypothesis of ‘thinking with art’ can be developed. It can be argued on the basis of the underlying assumptions of Deleuzian thought - the notion that not only art but also philosophy is a creative activity. Both disciplines are based on the principle of a creatio continua through which art creates sensations and philosophy concepts. And it is exactly this creative process that allows art and philosophy to enter into a productive relationship. The way Deleuze develops his conceptual work alongside artistic practice is shown on the basis of an analysis of the little known text Un manifeste de moins with reference to the theatre of Carmelo Bene.
Hans Blumenberg provides a completely different approach to the design of a practical aesthetics, indicating a theory of in-conceptuality. Following his call for an increased integration of metaphor into the practice of philosophical thought, he takes this further in the more radical call to take into equal consideration the non-sensual by placing the non-conceptual side by side with the conceptual. Weakness in definition emerges as the true strength, which reaches its apogee in its in-conceptuality. I understand the shipwreck as a central metaphor – in a sense as the metaphor of metaphor – that illustrates the grounding and failure of omniscience. The shipwreck illustrates the productive collision between theory and practice.
Through ‘creatio continua’ and ‘in-conceptuality’, Deleuze and Blumenberg show the limits of understanding by emphasizing that aesthetics not only refers to artistic experiences but is itself involved in the process of making experiences present. That means: Aesthetic reflection must proceed in ways other than just by conceptual means. Practical aesthetics encourages us to recognize other forms of representation (such as images, sounds, bodies) as different reflective modes of equal standing, and to place them side by side with language as forms that make one vulnerable. Such a reading emphasises the creative and design aspect of aesthetics itself.
The film ‘Point of View’, which I co-produced, forms an additional chapter of the thesis in order to illustrate the gap between (body-)image and concept. The film shows performers who have consciously decided to present their ‘deviant’ bodies on stage. The term vulnerability indicates the paradoxical task to enable something fragile to carry some weight; thus it also points towards a special form of relationship, to the way human beings are existentially dependent on each other. Since vulnerability concerns everyone, it establishes a special kind of community. In that sense, vulnerable places are not just aesthetic but also ethical places, which emphasizes the political dimension of the task.

Aufbauend auf ein ethnografisch vorgehendes Grundlagenforschungsprojekt, welches im Handlungsfeld der Offenen Kinder- und Jugendarbeit in der ganzen Schweiz – regional geprägt durch unterschiedliche Traditionen aus dem Spektrum von Animation, Sozialarbeit sowie Pädagogik – unterschiedliche Einrichtungen untersuchte, werden im Beitrag zentrale Ergebnisse dargestellt sowie entlang empirischer und konzeptioneller Bezüge diskutiert. Ein besonderes Augenmerk wird dabei auf die methodischen Überlegungen bei der ethnografischen Erforschung von „Praktiken pädagogischer Ortsgestaltung“ gelegt. Queer-feministische Ökologien in Gemeinschaftsgärten in Nordamerika", dass Gärtnern vor allem dann politisch ist, wenn es geläufige Vorstellungen von "Natur" und "Kultur" infrage stellt. Der Garten wird von den Protagonist*innen als stärkender und heilender, auch als spiritueller Ort beschrieben, der Vielfalt nicht nur hervorbringt und goutiert, sondern selbst auch repräsentiert. Der Garten ermöglicht das "Queeren" und Umdeuten von NaturKulturen und erweitert damit auch die Handlungs- und Wahrnehmungsspielräume der beteiligten Gärtner*innen. Eine weitere im Beitrag beschriebene Dimension des Queer Gardening ist die kritische Nutzung der Gärten als postkoloniale Orte.

ZusammenfassungDie vorigen beiden Kapitel sind vergleichend vorgegangen, indem sie zur gleichen Zeit entstandene, inhaltlich affine Arbeiten aus verschiedenen Disziplinen unter dem Stichwort der Institutionenkritik nebeneinandergelegt bzw. die verschlungenen Wege der medialen Formation des score in und durch verschiedene künstlerische Disziplinen nachgezeichnet haben. Beide legten ihren Fokus auf die 1960er- und 70er-Jahre. In diesem Kapitel soll es nun um die Gegenwart gehen, und zwar um den Wechsel einzelner Künstler*innen oder ganzer künstlerischer Bewegungen an andere disziplinäre Orte. Man könnte hier allgemein zwischen Touristen, Überläufern und Nomaden unterscheiden: Manche kommen als Gäste, andere richten sich auf Dauer ein; einige wenige führen eine nomadische Existenz, die sich keinem Ort wirklich zuordnen lässt und so den immer wieder neu zu kalibrierenden Umgang mit den unterschiedlichen Vorstellungen, Normen und Genealogien zur eigenen Normalität gemacht hat.

At the aim of alleviating the computational burden of complicated engineering optimization problems, metamodels have been widely employed to approximate the expensive blackbox functions. Among the popular metamodeling methods RBF metamodel well balances the global approximation accuracy, computational cost and implementation difficulty. However, the approximation accuracy of RBF metamodel is heavily influenced by the width factors of kernel functions, which are hard to determine and actually depend on the numerical behavior of expensive functions and distribution of samples. The main contribution of this paper is to propose an optimized RBF (ORBF) metamodel for the purpose of improving the global approximation capability with an affordable extra computational cost. Several numerical problems are used to compare the global approximation performance of the proposed ORBF metamodeling methods to determine the promising optimization approach. And the proposed ORBF is also adopted in adaptive metamodel-based optimization method. Two numerical benchmark examples and an I-beam optimization design are used to validate the adaptive metamodel-based optimization method using ORBF metamodel. It is demonstrated that ORBF metamodeling is beneficial to improving the optimization efficiency and global convergence capability for expensive engineering optimization problems.

Abstract Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF) of scapula fractures have increased in numbers recently. This is due to better functional outcomes achieved post-ORIF than non-operative management techniques. In South Africa, there is only one available supplier for anatomical contoured scapula plates used in the ORIF. This study examines the fit of these plates on the bony topology of fifty healthy scapula. It was observed that the short medial body plate performed the best in adhering to the bone topology followed by the short acromion plate. The glenoid plate and the long acromion and body plates were not adequately designed to fit their intended regions on the scapula. In conclusion, this study highlights the drawbacks in design of current commercial plates available for ORIF of scapula. Further studies are needed in order to evaluate the quantitative-fit performance of these plates on fracture scapula surfaces.

Rugose wood is a complex disease of grapevines, characterized by modification of the woody cylinder of affected vines. The control of rugose wood is based on the production of healthy propagation material. Detection of rugose wood in grapevines is difficult and expensive: budwood from tested plants is grafted onto sensitive Vitis indicators and the appearance of symptoms is monitored for 3 years. The etiology of rugose wood is complex and has not yet been elucidated. Several elongated clostero-like viruses are consistently found in affected vines; one of them, grapevine virus A (GVA), is closely associated with Kober stem grooving, a component of the rugose wood complex. GVA has a single-stranded RNA genome of 7349 nucleotides, excluding a polyA tail at the 3' terminus. The GVA genome includes five open reading frames (ORFs 1-5). ORF 4, which encodes for the coat protein of GVA, is the only ORF for which the function was determined experimentally. The original objectives of this research were: 1- To produce antisera to the structural and non-structural proteins of GVA and GVB and to use these antibodies to establish an effective detection method. 2- Develop full length infectious cDNA clones of GVA and GVB. 3- Study the roll of GVA and GVB in the etiology of the grapevine rugose wood disease. 4- Determine the function of Trichovirus (now called Vitivirus) encoded genes in the virus life cycle. Each of the ORFs 2, 3, 4 and 5 genes of GVA were cloned and expressed in E. coli and used to produce antisera. Both the CP (ORF 4) and the putative MP (ORF 3) were detected with their corresponding antisera in-GVA infected N. benthamiana and grapevine. The MP was first detected at an early stage of the infection, 6-12 h after inoculation, and the CP 2-3 days after inoculation. The MP could be detected in GVA-infected grapevines that tested negative for CP, both with CP antiserum and with a commercially available ELISA kit. Antisera to ORF 2 and 5 encoded proteins could react with the recombinant proteins but failed to detect both proteins in GVA infected plants. A full-length cDNA clone of grapevine virus A (GVA) was constructed downstream from the bacteriophage T7 RNA polymerase promoter. Capped in vitro transcribed RNA was infectious in N. benthamiana and N. clevelandii plants. Symptoms induced by the RNA transcripts or by the parental virus were indistinguishable. The infectivity of the in vitro-transcribed RNA was confirmed by serological detection of the virus coat and movement proteins and by observation of virions by electron microscopy. The full-length clone was modified to include a gus reporter gene and gus activity was detected in inoculated and systemic leaves of infected plants. Studies of GVA mutants suggests that the coat protein (ORF 4) is essential for cell to cell movement, the putative movement protein (ORF 3) indeed functions as a movement protein and that ORF 2 is not required for virus replication, cell to cell or systemic movement. Attempts to infect grapevines by in-vitro transcripts, by inoculation of cDNA construct in which the virus is derived by the CaMV 35S promoter or by approach grafting with infected N. benthamiana, have so far failed. Studies of the subcellular distribution of GFP fusion with each of ORF 2, 3 and 4 encoded protein showed that the CP fusion protein accumulated as a soluble cytoplasmatic protein. The ORF 2 fusion protein accumulated in cytoplasmatic aggregates. The MP-GFP fusion protein accumulated in a large number of small aggregates in the cytoplasm and could not move from cell to cell. However, in conditions that allowed movement of the fusion protein from cell to cell (expression by a PVX vector or in young immature leaves) the protein did not form cytoplasmatic aggregates but accumulated in the plasmodesmata.

Review question / Objective: We aimed to compare the death risk of operating room thoracotomy and emergency department thoracotomy for patients with severe thoracic injuries by conducting systematic review and meta-analysis. Condition being studied: Duo to the high mortality of severe thoracic and cardiac trauma, treatment for severe thoracic trauma patients has become a great challenge. Resuscitative thoracotomy, which included emergency department thoracotomy (EDT) and operating room thoracotomy (ORT), is a surgical procedure to rescue severe thoracic patients, especially for patients with traumatic cardiac arrest and tamponade. However, it was still controversial that whether EDT or ORT was superior to the patients suffered from severe thoracic injuries.

Bu kapsamda raporda kiracılığın değişen anlamı, dünya ve Türkiye’de konut piyasasında, konut fiyatlarında ve ev sahipliği oranındaki değişim, kentsel dönüşümün konut piyasası ve kiracılar üzerindeki etkileri irdelenmekte, genel çıkarımlar yapılmakta ve öneriler sunulmaktadır. Raporun temel bulguları, küresel konut piyasasındaki ve Türkiye’deki eğilimlerin benzer istikamette olduğu, kiracıların motivasyonunun ve buna bağlı olarak ihtiyaç ve sorunlarının farklılaştığı, Türkiye’de ailelerin %6’sına tekabül eden yaklaşık 1,5 milyon ailenin hem yoksulluk sınırının altında hem de ikamet ettiği evde kiracı konumunda yaşadığı, kentsel dönüşümün kiracıları ve hassas kesimleri çoğunlukla olumsuz etkilediği yönündedir. Bu sebeple konut politikalarının odağında hem yoksul hem kiracı olan 1,5 milyon aile yer almalıdır.
