Abstract (sommario):
Daily practice shows that educators, teachers, and children find it interesting to jointly organize sports events and competitions that they call "small Olympics, athletic Olympics - in the world of competition and the like". For example, similar to this was the final event of preschoolers in the primary school "Mladost" from Belgrade in June 2023. It is interesting to emphasize that before the new era, the Olympiads represented a unit of measure of 4 years between two Olympic Games. The Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held in Paris in 2024. This paper is intended, primarily for those who are interested in the Olympic Games as the largest sports competition in the world, which is held every four years. In this paper, all members of one family can find something interesting, both the youngest and the oldest. The purpose of this paper is to acquaint readers of different ages with the origin of the Olympic Games, both ancient (Olympia before the new era) and these modern (renewed) ones that were created inspired by the ancient Olympic Games. This paper can serve as a good starting point, primarily for educators, but also for teachers, for planning project and teaching activities on the topic of the Olympic Games, sports competitions, mythology, winter and summer sports, Paralympic competitions, various symbols that are dominant before some planetary events in the near future such as the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024, as well as nations, continents and cities that at least briefly unite the idea of the Olympic Games.

Abstract (sommario):
The history of the Summer Olympic Games is too rich and deserves a lot of space and attention. Between the two Olympics in Paris (1924-2024), exactly 100 years have passed. A whole century. This city was the organizer of the Olympic Games in 1900, when France won the most medals. This work and the idea of extracting the names of medal winners from these areas from the multitude of data is a modest contribution to the preservation of the Olympic spirit. For all athletes, going to the Olympic Games is a dream come true. The intention is to encourage already established athletes to fulfill the norm and find themselves in the selection of Serbia in 2024 at the Olympics in Paris. And so that they never forget the message: Persistence, will and love for sports are the drivers of many sporting and life activities and feats. The history of Olympism, scholarly works and books, will celebrate the pride of each Olympic medal-winning nation.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose: to determine the results of performances of Ukrainian martial arts representatives at the Olympic Games. Material and methods. The analysis of scientific and methodological literature, protocols and video recordings of competitions of Ukrainian athletes in various types of martial arts (Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling, judo, taekwondo, boxing, karate, fencing) at the 1996 Olympic Games (Atlanta, USA) was used to solve the research tasks. , 2000 (Sydney, Australia), 2004 (Athens, Greece), 2008 (Beijing, China), 2012 (London, Great Britain), 2016 (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), 2021 (Tokyo, Japan). Results: it was found that in 1996, Ukraine first took part in the Summer Olympic Games as an independent team. Martial arts athletes take an active part in every Olympic Games and bring medals to the coffers of the national team of Ukraine. The largest number of medals was won by martial artists at the 2012 Olympic Games - 10 medals (52,6 % of all medals), then at the 2021 Olympic Games - 9 (47,4 %), 2008 Olympic Games - 9 (37,5 %), -2000 – 8 (34,8 %), OI-2016 – 3 (27,3 %), OI-2004 – 4 (18,2 %). It was determined that the largest number of athletes who took part in the Olympics as part of the national team of Ukraine from 1996 to 2021 was in fencing - 63, then in freestyle wrestling - 61, in judo - 51, in boxing - 48, in Greco- in Roman wrestling - 38, in karate and taekwondo - 3 athletes each. Conclusions. It was established that during the independence of Ukraine, Ukrainian athletes took part in 7 Olympic Games. During this time, martial arts athletes won 49 medals (10 gold, 14 silver, 25 bronze), which is 34,8 % of all medals won by Ukrainian athletes. The following types of martial arts were presented in the Olympic program: Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling, judo, boxing, karate, taekwondo, fencing. In total, from 1996 to 2021, Ukrainian martial artists took part in the Olympic Games 267 times.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose: to identify the features of the sports career of Olympic champions in women's wrestling. Material and Methods. The main materials for the study were personal indicators of the sports career of 18 Olympic champions in wrestling (data were taken from the official website of UWW (https://unitedworldwrestling.org)). Research methods: analysis and synthesis, documentary method, comparison, methods of mathematical statistics. The study analyzed the careers of 18 freestyle wrestlers from 5 Olympic Games who won the title of champion in these competitions. The study took into account all the performances at official competitions (continental championships and world championships in all age groups and the Youth Olympic Games) of wrestlers. Results: it was found that in 5 Olympic Games, which included women's wrestling in the program (since 2004), 18 athletes won 18 out of 24 possible Olympic gold titles. The youngest age of the first performance at official international competitions before the Olympic triumph among the studied athletes was 15 years old. The latest first performance in the international arena among the study participants was recorded at the age of 25. It was found that the period from the first performance at official competitions to the gold medal at the Olympic Games was 5-9 years. It was also found that the shortest period from the first performance in the international arena to winning the Olympic Games was 2 years, and the longest was 15 years. To win Olympic gold, athletes had to participate in 9 official international competitions on average. The average age at which female athletes won at the Olympics is 22. Conclusions. To win gold at the Olympics, highly skilled wrestlers usually need to participate in a fairly large number of international competitions. However, there are exceptions in history among female athletes who have managed to reach the highest podium much faster and with fewer international competitions. This largely depends on individual characteristics and the specifics of the wrestlers' training system. Keywords: free wrestling, women, highly qualified sportswomen, competition, Olympic Games.

Abstract (sommario):
Analysis of Ukrainian athletes’ results at the XXXII Olympiad Games allows pointing out the factors of the weak performance of Ukrainian athletes in women's individual saber and epee competitions, as well as men's team epee competitions, despite the possibility of winning medals in these sports events according to many analysts including those of Infostrada Sports and other sports statistics experts. These, in our opinion, include an unsatisfactory level of efficiency of the process of reaching the peak of readiness for the Olympic Games; lack of psychological stability of athletes at the competitions; weak tactical preparation of some athletes. Based on the performances of athletes of the Ukrainian fencing team in Tokyo, a conclusion was made about the unsatisfactory level of athletes’ preparation for the XXXII Olympic Games. Only 20% of the national team members were able to realize their potential at the XXXII Olympic Games. The dynamics of the athletes’ results at the World Championships 2017 – 2019 indicates the need to use in the new Olympic cycle the planning, which is focused on our athletes reaching the peak of readiness for the Olympics: at first, the training should be aimed at the maximum stimulation of the growth of sportsmanship, whereas at the final stage it should be focused on its realization in the major competitions. It is shown that despite the unsuccessful performance of the Ukrainian fencing team in the Olympic Tokyo, this type of martial arts has significant potential for improving sports achievements at the XXXIII Olympic Games 2024 in Paris. It is noted that in the new Olympic cycle it is of crucial importance to identify candidates for the XXXIII Olympic Games as soon as possible and to create all the conditions for their full-fledged preparation. Thus, to ensure further winning medal places at the Olympic Games, it is necessary to improve the system of sports training in the Olympic cycle, which envisages participation in numerous competitions during the year to achieve a high level of readiness in the major competitions of triennial – the Olympic Games.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Protests over sustainability concerns attached to hosting the Olympic Games have resulted in several bid withdrawals and a low number of candidate cities willing to host the most recent editions. Worried about the future, the International Olympic Committee adopted the Olympic Agenda 2020, promising to adapt the event to contemporary sustainability paradigms. Some of its urban-related reforms have already impacted recently hosted Games and are impacting the planning for those to come. The IOC claims that Paris 2024 will be the first Games to be fully aligned with the Agenda. This article addresses the urban preparations for Paris 2024 and assesses their alignment with the new reforms. The objective is to identify difficulties in the implementation of the Agenda and to outline future research that can, potentially, enhance its efficiency. Results reveal Paris 2024 is innovative but certain features are difficult to implement, leaving room to improve the Agenda.

Abstract (sommario):
The article is devoted to the analysis of the features of current qualification systems in combat sports. It was established that the International Sports Federations (ISF) develops the Olympic qualification systems and specific criteria for athletes to obtain licenses. The structure and content of these systems may differ in each Olympic cycle. In 2021-2024 cycle, qualification at the Olympics in combat sports is possible in two ways: through the athlete's position in the official ISF ranking or by demonstrating a certain result at qualifying tournaments. In taekwondo, judo and fencing it is possible to obtain "direct" qualification for the Olympic Games through the official ISF ranking or demonstration of a certain result at the qualifying tournament ("tournament of last hope" for participants from NOCs who have not yet obtained an Olympic license). The possibility of qualifying in team depends on its high place in the official ISF team ranking. If a certain team could not qualify through to the world ranking, its members are able to do it only in individual events (by individual qualification). For boxing and wrestling, qualification to the Olympic Games is possible by certain result in special tournaments or "tournaments of last hope" (for participants from NOCs who have not yet obtained an Olympic license). The range of weight categories in which athletes may participate is almost equal for men and women. The differences in the Olympic qualification systems for the 2024 XXIII Games in Paris are its duration, the ownership of the obtained license (personal or for the NOC), the number of types of competitions, the presence of different rankings (world, continental, Olympic, individual, team).

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract The present paper aims to discuss the correlation between surveillance technologies and Olympic Games. The latter have become a “security spectacle” only behind wars in terms of budget. Surveillance, however, does not pertain only to security, as it has infiltrated our everyday life and has become a “culture.” To prepare for the 2024 Olympics, surveillance technologies, through an array of innovations, have been put forward in the Parisian territory: from facial recognition cameras and behavioral analysis systems to drones and anti-drone technologies. If it were not for the Olympic context, they would be considered “exceptions.” However, as it will be discussed in the paper, they have been normalized and integrate all the planning dimensions of this sports mega-event.

Abstract (sommario):
Prevention of sports injury and illness and protection of athlete health are key mandates of the IOC. Methodological limitations in Olympic Games surveillance and retired Olympian studies mean there are gaps in the available evidence on Olympian health and the varied challenges occurring at different stages throughout an athlete’s career. This (protocol) paper describes the methods for implementation of the IOC Olympian Health Cohort. The study aims to establish a longitudinal cohort of current Olympians and follow them prospectively (around 15 years) throughout their Olympic careers and retirement. The study will use participants who have completed self-report questionnaires. Olympians will be recruited after each Summer and Winter Olympic Games, and all National Olympic Committee (NOC) athletes aged 16 years or older are eligible. The first phase included the Tokyo 2020/2021 and Beijing 2022 Olympians, with the study promoted via IOC platforms, Athlete365 and NOCs. Questionnaires include baseline demographics, sports exposure and history of injuries and illnesses impacting the athlete’s ability to continue to train and/or compete for at least 2 weeks. Questions also address retirement from sports, musculoskeletal, mental and general health, and quality of life measures. This protocol describes the methods for the 15-year global IOC Olympian Health Cohort Study, from participant recruitment to the development and distribution of the study questionnaire. This protocol will be updated to report future changes in the study’s conduct or questionnaire content. These data will help identify risk factors and inform risk-reduction strategies. The ultimate goal is to protect the health of all athletes during their careers and retirement.

Abstract (sommario):
The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics will be the first Olympic Games for which human rights provisions were added to the Host City Contract (HCC). The Milano/Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics will be the first edition of the Games that were awarded with human rights requirements forming part of the candidature process. The inclusion of human rights provisions into hosting and bidding regulations can be seen as a reaction of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to the increasing pressure from civil society to address adverse human rights impacts of these events. This essay provides an analysis of the benefits and shortcomings of this development and reveals that from a rights-holder perspective, the benefits are meaningless. More specifically, it argues that potential benefits are cancelled out by the shortcomings and most importantly that there is a mismatch between intended and actual beneficiaries of these provisions.

Abstract (sommario):
Sport has historically played a significant role in spreading positive values and connecting cultures and nations worldwide, but it can also be exploited for political, religious, and ideological motivations. Sporting events have become targets of terrorist attacks in recent years. Terrorists and extremist groups may use sports events as means to propagate their ideologies or to attract attention through acts of terrorism. The threat of attacks during sporting events poses a serious risk to the security of the civilian population and, consequently, a significant challenge for its protection. The most notable sporting event in 2024 will be the Summer Olympic Games in Paris. France has experienced the highest number of terrorist attacks in Europe, making the Olympics a major security concern. The study analyzes terrorists' strategies related to attacks on sports events and potential attack scenarios at the 2024 Olympic Games. The insights gained can contribute to strengthening the security of sporting events and the protection of participants and spectators against potential threats.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper explores the diverse impact of the Olympic Movement on society, emphasizing core values like ‘excellence’, ‘friendship’, and ‘respect’. Traditionally, the Olympic Movement actively promotes global sport through initiatives such as Olympic education programs, instilling moral dimensions, cultural values, and essential life skills. Recent Olympic Games are scrutinized for their organizers’ focus on safety, pandemic management, environmental sustainability, and gender equality. This paper addresses crucial policy options, spanning human rights, social inclusion through sport, and the pervasive issue of inactivity affecting public health. Noteworthy successes in leveraging sports for refugees and combating substance use disorders are discussed, alongside joint efforts by the World Health Organization and the International Olympic Committee, to combat inactivity and promote health through sports. Exploration of gender equality in the Olympic Movement recognizes challenges and suggests actions, including increasing female participation and addressing sexual harassment. The intersection of sports, climate change, and environmental responsibility is examined, with a focus on the ambitious ‘climate-positive’ goals of the Paris 2024 Olympics. However, since most of the IOC actions are rather symbolic and not substantial, many organizations are called upon to take active initiatives. Actionable recommendations urge countries to prioritize physical activity policies, organize exercise programs, and collaborate across sectors for health and environmental sustainability. The Olympic Games should focus on promoting mass sports participation, fostering positive attitudes, enhancing public health through sports, education, peace, and societal values, advocating for a holistic approach that champions ethical values, and promoting Olympic education to build a better world through sports.

Abstract (sommario):
Both the promoters of Olympism and the organisers of the Olympic Games regularly employ the term legacy. In this context, the use of education as a tool constitutes an important stake. We have analysed the position of French actors in education with regard to Olympism and the measures implemented. In this respect, we have studied, on the one hand, the texts of the IOC and OCOGs from the 1960s to those concerning Paris 2024, in order to identify the concepts of education. On the other hand, we have focused on the professional texts of Physical Education and Sport (PES) teachers. Finally, in order to complete this analysis, we have examined the contents of projects labelled as part of the “Olympic Class” scheme, designed as one of the main channels for rolling out Olympic education in schools. This study has made it possible to identify the ways in which PES teachers engage in and take ownership of the concept of Olympic education, sometimes to the point of validating its ideological foundations or transforming them. Our study thus ponders the means used to make Olympism a universal subject and demonstrates that, far from offering real pedagogical treatment of Olympic facts, current practices aim rather to form generations of spectators attached to Olympism and guarantee the success of future Olympiads.

Abstract (sommario):
Modern television broadcasts the most interesting sports events, not only promoting sports but also influencing social values in favor of active physical education. Owing to the interaction of the International Olympic Committee and television, the Olympic Games have become the main sporting event in the world. Nowadays, television is the major source of material wellbeing for the Olympic movement. Television is one of the key partners of sports, providing its financing through the purchase of broadcasting rights and through the sponsors’ television advertising. The further development of any sport entirely depends on television, which adapted sports competitions to its modern requirements at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. But there is also a negative point in mutually beneficial cooperation: television creates a hierarchy, at the top of which are the most popular sports in a particular country. The purpose of the study is to analyze TV broadcasts of the 2022 Winter Olympics on public Russian television channels and determine the most popular winter sports among Russians.

Abstract (sommario):
As nations across the world incorporate breaking into their national sports systems in anticipation of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, the new dancesport classification has resulted in a number of tensions and possibilities among dancers. The increased support from state governments and commercial sponsors in recent years has noticeably impacted dancers and their prospective careers. While this development has been promising in some countries, a range of disparities has become apparent across the globe, particularly in relation to funding, stipends, salaries, and contracts from state agencies or local DanceSport organizations. This disparity between the global north and south is becoming more pronounced in the lead-up to the Olympics. This creates a contradiction our issue explores: on the one hand, the Olympic opportunity is a sign that breaking is thriving around the world, while on the other, the resources required to participate successfully will, as ever, favour the globally powerful. Furthermore, the articles and statements in this issue seek to situate the Olympic project’s impacts on the dance, particularly in terms of colonizing mindsets, misogyny and unequal power relations more generally.

Abstract (sommario):
Public aspirations for more sustainable mega-projects not only ensuring economic returns but also comprehensive local legacies have increased in recent years. The Olympic Games in particular have been criticized as commercial ventures lacking in proportional impacts for local communities, while largely financed by public funds. With associated corruption and gentrification concerns, such projects met with increased opposition. The International Olympic Committee (IOC), struggling to attract candidate cities, adapted its strategies and frameworks, while host cities’ priorities were better heeded. Cultural policy, associated with transformative urban powers since the 1990s, became instrumental to sustainable legacies. This article explores the increased use of cultural value, from heritage to creation, as part of the Olympic Games, to reach more sustainable cultural, socio-economic, political, and environmental objectives. Can cultural planning and programming (notably Cultural Olympiads) help provide a more sustainable legacy to the redeveloped areas and their communities? Can culture also impact the Olympic project through its use of sustainable management methods (consultation, participation, co-creation, etc.)? After discussing evolving theories and practices around sustainability, legacy, and cultural policy in the Olympic context, this article analyzes the cases of London 2012 and Paris 2024 and their Athletes’ village areas (Stratford and Plaine Commune).

Abstract (sommario):
Cities and their respective regions must weigh the merits of hosting major sport events, including the Olympic Games. This paper presents a contingent valuation method estimate of the monetary value of intangible benefits to Germans of hosting the Olympic Summer Games. In a nationwide online survey, 6977 respondents said whether they would support a referendum to host the Games. The survey employed a payment card format containing monthly tax amounts to elicit individual willingness-to-pay for the Games over a five-year period. In the weighted sample, 26% expressed an average willingness-to-pay of €51. Willingness-to-pay varied widely across regions. Around Cologne, the average willingness-to-pay was €100. Interval data hurdle models reveal that policy consequentiality and various intangible benefits increased willingness-to-pay. Aggregate willingness-to-pay over a five-year period amounted to €46 billion which exceeded the estimated costs of the 2024 Summer Games for Hamburg. The findings have implications for policy makers since they show what regions within Germany most support hosting the Games.

Abstract (sommario):
Background and Study: Spectacle plays a key role in sports wrestling in attracting viewers' attention, creating emotional involvement, and making the sport an integral part of culture. Aim: To identify the most significant indicators of wrestlers' competitive activity based on the analysis of the 2021 Olympic Games, which influence the spectacle in sports wrestling. Material and Methods: The study involved 289 wrestlers. An analysis of protocols and video recordings of 340 matches at the 2021 Olympic Games in three types of sports wrestling was conducted: in women's wrestling – 113 matches (n=96 female wrestlers), in Greco-Roman wrestling – 113 matches (n=97 wrestlers), and in freestyle wrestling – 114 matches (n=96 wrestlers). Expert assessment method was used to evaluate the indicators of competitive activity. Statistical analysis of the data was conducted using licensed Excel spreadsheet packages. Results: For Greco-Roman wrestling and women's wrestling, the ratio of actions performed in par terre and standing is about 70 to 30. Whereas, for freestyle wrestlers, almost 80% of actions are performed in standing. The efficiency coefficient of wrestling in standing for Greco-Roman style wrestlers averaged 1.43 points per action; for freestyle wrestlers, it was 1.78 points per action, and for female wrestlers – 2.01 points per action. The highest number of one-point actions was performed in Greco-Roman wrestling, which significantly and statistically significantly (p<0.05) exceeds the indicators in freestyle and women's wrestling. Meanwhile, female wrestlers and freestyle wrestlers statistically significantly (p<0.05) executed more two-point actions. The average number of actions per match does not significantly differ (p>0.05): 4.23 actions for Greco-Roman wrestling; 4.47 actions for freestyle wrestling, and 4.08 actions for women's wrestling. However, when considering the average number of points scored per match, statistically significant differences were found. Thus, Greco-Roman style wrestlers score an average of 6.95 points, this indicator is statistically significantly lower (p<0.05) than in freestyle (8.12 points) and in women's wrestling (8.07 points). Conclusions: The analysis of matches at the 2021 Olympic Games made it possible to identify competitive activity indicators that influence the spectacle in sports wrestling. Positive indicators include: a large number of technical-tactical actions performed in standing; execution of throws in par terre by Greco-Roman style wrestlers; a high percentage of early victories in matches. Negative indicators: execution of simple one-point and two-point technical-tactical actions; in Greco-Roman wrestling, a large number of matches that ended with a score of 1:1; interruptions in matches (Challenge, Negative Wrestling, Caution), lack of dynamism in the match, and the inability to score too many points. The obtained results will help provide recommendations for changing competition rules and enhancing the spectacle of sports wrestling.

Abstract (sommario):
With the introduction of skateboarding in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, the influence of skateboarding in China improves constantly, and it has played a role in the transformation of Chinese streets. This essay analyzes the reasons of the different influences of Chinese and American skateboard culture on their respective streets, discusses the acceptance degree of Chinese streets to skateboard culture and the influence of skateboard culture on Chinese streets through questionnaire survey. Research shows that skateboard culture mainly plays a positive catalytic role in Chinese streets, which can make the streets younger, diversified and interesting. However, due to insufficient attention to skateboard culture, problems such as noise, rising pavement maintenance costs, personal safety hazards, and street shop conflicts appear. Taking into account the above problems, suggestions to further transform the street are proposed. In the future, it can also consider distinguishing the skateboarder and pedestrian flow lines and setting some transition space.

The budgets of 2021-2023 provide for allocations under the section "Physical Culture and sport" sequentially: 65,264, 63,4655 and 53,489 billion rubles for the Strategy for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports until 2030. The allocation of funds for the preparation of national teams for participation in the Olympic Games in Tokyo and Beijing will be redistributed, taking into account the reserves, as the Russian Olympic Committee received an official invitation from the IOC to participate in the Olympic Games. Previously, these decisions were blocked by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but as a result, the decision not to impose sanctions on the Russian Olympic and Paralympic Committees took place. At the meeting of the Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports, the results of the Strategy 2009-2019 and its development in 2020, as well as the new Strategy for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports until 2030, were summed up in a video conference with the head of state. The main result is noted in the development of a mass dispute. The number of regular students of all ages in Russia has increased by 2.5 times and amounted to 60 million people. The goal is to increase the number of those who lead an active, sporty lifestyle to 55% by 2024, and 70% by 2030. It is noted that the number of sports facilities has significantly increased and their number amounted to 322,754 units in 2019. In 2021, the sub-program "Sports in rural areas" will start.

Abstract (sommario):
With breaking set to debut at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, apprehensions have emerged around the World DanceSport Federation’s scope of control and representation of the dance. However, some of Japan’s breaking communities have placated these concerns as they hastily organize in anticipation. With the multidimensional appreciation for hip hop in Japan – visible across cultural communities, creative industries, non-governmental organizations, government agencies, small- to medium-sized businesses, global conglomerates and educational institutions – the work of passionate community leaders and cultural intermediaries is critical as ever in navigating institutional interventions in breaking’s Olympic co-option and representation. This article draws on ethnographic research and a series interviews conducted in Japan during 2016–21 to explore the conditions that foster favourable local reception to breaking in the Olympics. Using the case study of b-boy Katsu One – the director of the Japan DanceSport Federation Breaking Division and Japan’s breaking Olympic Coach – this article explores how Japan, an East Asian centre for hip hop globalization, is repositioning breaking as a cultural disruptor within institutional frameworks as the art form enters the world of sport. Katsu’s work highlights the importance of exerting agency between institutions and cultural communities in negotiating new perspectives and prospects for generations to come.

Abstract (sommario):
Before breaking’s official announcement into the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, other practitioners and members of pioneering crew the New York City Breakers had already dreamed about this future. This article presents an interview with breaking’s first impresario Michael Holman, who was the first individual to document this vision of breaking’s Olympic future in his book Breaking and the New York City Breakers (1984). Holman’s history in hip hop culture is both well documented and persists as one of the most important accounts of hip hop cultural intermediation and entrepreneurship. Notably, his early work in the New York scene was instrumental in developing hip hop and setting in motion the first wave of commercial viability for breaking. Holman’s discovery and management of breakers pushed boundaries in a time where few opportunities for professionalization existed – presenting breaking in new contexts for performance, showcase and expression, such as on television and in theatre. Our interview looks back to brushes with the Olympics in the past to think critically about what potential outcomes emerge from this pivotal moment in the dance’s global mainstream rediscovery. Holman’s reflections demonstrate how breaking in the Olympics has been articulated in the past while reminding us that breaking’s industrialization has already been underway for decades.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract. The aim of this study is to analyse the origins and evolution of different styles of street dances that emerged from the second half of the twentieth century onwards, up until, in the case of Break Dance, it was made an Olympic sport for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The main contribution of this historical paper has been to use a descriptive methodology based on highly relevant secondary sources, gaining information directly from those involved in this contemporary dance scene since the key figures associated with this relatively modern activity are still alive. The findings indicate that the social consideration of these street dance styles has evolved from practices aimed at platforming marginal nuclei to become fashion based on forms of consumption, media interest and commercial benefits, in an attempt to modernise the Olympic Games and spark greater interest among the younger demographic and attract greater interest from sponsors and the media. Abstract (sommario):
As the Western world’s policy towards China has been changing in recent years, the international public opinion, that China comes into contact with, is also deteriorating, which has a serious negative impact on forming the international image of China and on shaping soft power. In the context of the rapid development of modern information technology, sports events like the Winter Olympics are often accompanied by large-scale media coverage and propaganda, and it is important to deal with the negative coverage of the Olympics involving China in the Western media and to build a good national image through the Winter Olympics. This study focuses on the specific content of Western media reports on China during the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics cycle, and summarizes and analyzes the characteristics of “distorted facts”, “far-fetched” and “prominent political demands” in the negative reports on China in the Western media during the Winter Olympics. Based on the importance of guiding international public opinion and covering by media of such large sporting events as the Olympic Games, it is urgent and necessary to improve China’s international public opinion crisis response mechanism and enhance national and international media capacity. In this regard, this paper proposes four specific response strategies: strengthening the international communication capacity of mainstream media, enhancing the role of the government in guiding and making decisions, strengthening cooperation with international media; and making full use of our own media platforms.

Abstract (sommario):
In Morocco, breaking’s formalization through governmental bodies already took off years ago and federations have played a crucial role in the organization, implementation and control of competitions. Formal institutions have shaped the local scenes and provided opportunities but also posed challenges for breakers on the ground. In this article, we explore formalization, gender inequalities and pathways for professionalization in Morocco in the run-up to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Utilizing ethnographic vignettes, interviews and survey data, we investigate how dancers navigate the top-down institutionalization of breaking and we give voice to their criticisms. We discuss how the formalization of breaking affects the Moroccan breaking scene, what critical opinions about this formalization exist and how formalization can be organized in culturally sustaining ways. In our investigation we paid particular attention to opportunities for professionalization and achieving gender equality for dancers from the Global South as well as the question of access to the western structure of the Olympics. We found that institutional formalization is perceived as disappointing and detrimental to the long-term and bottom-up development and self-organization, while nevertheless also opening up support and new opportunities for professionalization and achieving equality for b-girls.

Abstract (sommario):
ABSTRACT: The Afro-Cuban Teófilo Stevenson entered the world boxing scene at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Germany. It was at those games that he won his first of three gold medals in heavyweight boxing and emerged as a Black celebrity, sports icon, and Cuban national hero. This article examines the overlapping and, at times, competing identities as they were constructed in Cuba's official discourse and in popular US and Cuban newspapers and magazines. The son of Black West Indian migrants, Stevenson stood out for more than his rejection of million-dollar offers to leave the island to pursue a professional boxing career in the United States. His remarks in support of the Cuban Revolution served as a kind of Black athletic activism that celebrated, at least implicitly, Cuba's progress on matters of racial equality and racial discrimination.

Abstract (sommario):
In recent years, Russia has been paying great attention to the Olympic Games. The Olympic Movement plays an important role in shaping the country's foreign policy image and promoting national interests. The purpose of this article is to determine what impact the Olympic Games have on the formation of the image of the Russian Federation. The main stages of Russia's participation in the Olympic Games in 1994-2022, forming the image of the country, are highlighted. The study showed that the first two stages, including the period from 1994 to 2012 and the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, were extremely successful in forming a positive image of Russia, which was constructed thanks to the successes of Russian athletes, the construction of a "Russian House" in Olympic parks, the opening and closing ceremonies at the Sochi Olympics, as well as the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad project. The image of Russia as a great sports power was strengthened. However, Russia's participation in the Olympics from 2016 to 2022 was not so successful and affected the image of our country. The deterioration of the image was caused by various doping scandals related to Russian athletes. The authors came to the conclusion that the Olympic Games from 1994 to 2012 and the Olympic Games in Sochi – 2014, which we refer to the first two stages, had a steady positive effect on the image of Russia. However, the negative factors that have arisen since 2016 partially offset the successes achieved in this direction in previous years. Due to the current geopolitical situation, holding another Olympic Games in Russia is not expected in the foreseeable future, so at the moment the best option is to focus on the development of sports within the country. Also, to create a positive image of Russia, it is important to revive the practice of creating a "Russian House" in Olympic parks.

Abstract (sommario):
Background and Aims: Table tennis mixed doubles is an emerging event in the Olympic Games. my country's academic community has only begun to study table tennis mixed doubles techniques and tactics in recent years. Research on statistical methods for mixed doubles techniques and tactics is still in the preliminary exploration stage. Based on this, this article aims to explore and use more scientific and effective statistical methods to analyze the techniques and tactics of my country's main opponents in the table tennis mixed doubles event of the Paris Olympic Games, to find technical and tactical statistical methods suitable for the mixed doubles event, and to explore the mixed doubles The characteristics and winning rules of the game provide certain theoretical reference for preparing for the table tennis mixed doubles competition of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The objective of this research is to develop a table tennis program for international competitions for mixed doubles. Methodology: This article mainly uses the four-stage and four-round evaluation method of table tennis mixed doubles technical and tactical statistical methods as the research object, and analyzes the international mixed doubles competition held between November 2021 and August 2023 by four athletes from different countries ranked top two in the world. Analysis and in-depth study of major mixed doubles matches. First, we review previous literature on table tennis doubles technical and tactical statistical methods. Secondly, we searched the literature from authoritative academic platforms at home and abroad in the past 10 years and selected and formulated technical and tactical research methods related to this article. Then, refer to Simi Scout technical and tactical video-related analysis software to study the technical and tactical use, points gained and lost, and competitive ability of the world's outstanding mixed doubles athletes in the game, at the same time. Combining the gender characteristics of table tennis doubles and mixed doubles events, a four-round model of serving and receiving for men and women was established, and a four-stage and four-round evaluation method of technical and tactical statistical methods for table tennis mixed doubles events was established. Finally, the study is summarized and recommendations are made. Results: The statistical method of "Four Stages and Four Rounds Evaluation Method" used in this article is a new technical and tactical statistical method for table tennis mixed doubles projects based on previous research on table tennis doubles. It is based on both theory and practice. Perspective, it improves the existing technical and tactical statistical indicator system, provides a theoretical reference for winning the gold medal in the table tennis mixed doubles event of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and the future training and competition of my country's table tennis mixed doubles event, and enhances the overall strength of China's table tennis mixed doubles event., contributing to the continuous development of the world table tennis mixed doubles project Conclusion: The main conclusions of this article are as follows: 1. The four-stage and four-round evaluation method of mixed doubles technical and tactical statistical methods is feasible and effective. 2. The eight-round three-stage index evaluation method can specifically analyze the performance of athletes' techniques and tactics in a certain round, but it cannot reflect the use of techniques and tactics by mixed doubles athletes when facing different opponents. 3. The dual-system four-round evaluation method can analyze the advantages and disadvantages of rounds based on the gender differences between men and women, but it does not fundamentally solve the problem of inconsistency in the statistical data of each section. 4. The four-stage and four-round evaluation method can not only analyze the advantages and disadvantages of mixed doubles players according to gender characteristics but also summarize the techniques and tactics used by mixed doubles players when facing different opponents.

Abstract (sommario):
Drawing on work located within critical political economy and process sociology, this article uses content analysis to examine the types, frequency, and content of Olympic related advertising in the British press and television during the 2004 Athens Olympics. We assessed the degree to which The Olympic Partner (TOP) sponsors incorporated themes derived from Olympism and the Celebrate Humanity program, as well as from consumer culture more broadly. Our findings suggest that relatively few advertisers incorporated themes relating to Olympism, and that those that did focused on “excellence,” which is arguably more indicative of the achievement sports ethic and consumerism than of Olympic ideals.

Abstract (sommario):
Breaking is a sports dance modality that will debut for the first time at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This dance form combines street dance steps with acrobatics and athletic elements. It complies with gender equality, maintains aesthetic appeal, and is practised indoors. The objective of this study is to assess the characteristics of body composition and nutritional status of the athletes that make up the Breaking national team. This national team was recruited, and they underwent an analysis of body composition using bioimpedance measurement and a nutritional interview status with the completion of a survey on the frequency of the consumption of sports supplements and ergogenic aids. In addition, they completed a consumption questionnaire for a series of food groups with specified protein, lipid, and carbohydrate content. After that, parameters were analyzed in relation to their nutritional status during a complete medical examination at the Endocrinology and Nutrition Service of the Sports Medicine Center of CSD. A descriptive analysis of the results obtained was carried out to find the mean values of the variables analyzed. The analytical parameters described an adequate nutritional status, except for the mean capillary determination of 25-OH-vitamin D3, which was 24.2 ng/dL (SD: 10.3). Bone mineral density values were higher than those of the general population. This is the first time that a study of these characteristics has been carried out on Breakers, so it is highly relevant to increase knowledge in this area in order to conduct nutritional interventions aimed at improving the sports performance of these athletes.

Abstract (sommario):
Introduction:A large number of visitors to Tokyo during the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020 resulted in an increase of injury/illness and burden to the routine emergency medical services system. Furthermore, extremely hot and humid weather, terrorism, and outbreaks of infectious diseases are marked risks.Aim:We introduce the present status of an academic consortium (AC2020) to fulfill our mission as academic organizations. The Japanese Association for Acute Medicine (JAAM) and six academic associations have initially established the AC2020 since 2016, which consists of the 23 associations at this time. The role of the AC2020 is to provide knowledgeable evidence, intelligence, and support for constructing response plans for medical problems via the website (http://2020ac.com/).Methods:The joint committee of the AC2020 (JC-AC2020) has been launched to accomplish consortium activities; make statements and recommendations, compile manuals, conduct seminars, and coordinate the training program of on-site medical teams. The JC-AC2020 organizes nine working groups of heat stroke, lightning strike, nursing, athletes, first responders, foreigners, pre and in-hospital response of MCI, and data collection for audit. Results:As of December in 2018, AC2020 has released 30 documents and 10 event-news on the website including seven statements, two recommendations of a prerequisite of the on-site medical team, and two manuals concerning the treatment of gunshot and explosive injuries. Based on some of these statements, the Tokyo government has already enhanced the previous plan.Discussion:The AC2020 will propose the web site as a portal site and platform, disseminate the activities widely to society, and ask for the cooperation of other related organizations and academic societies. The AC2020 will aim to provide the landmark project of mass-gathering medical care in Japan as well as the transition to the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.

Abstract (sommario):
The Olympic Games is a comprehensive social and cultural activity with the most complicated system and the largest scale. With the development of the Olympic Games, the ecological problems brought by the Olympic Games have attracted increasing attention, and the sustainable development of the Olympic Games has been put on the agenda. Based on the comprehensive index of Ecological Carrying Capacity (ECC), Environmental Kuznets Curve, and carbon footprint analysis of the Olympic Games host city competition cycle, this study analyzes three modes of ECC of the host city: light urban ecological burden mode, heavy urban ecological burden mode, and overload urban ecological burden mode. Based on the temperature sensor and GPS positioning, the land surface temperature change map of Tokyo, Japan, from 1990 to 2015 is obtained, and the heat island effect of Tokyo is obtained. This paper analyzes the case of using sensors for intelligent event management such as venue detection in the sustainable development plan of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics; the idea and practice of thrifty hosting of 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games holds that in most cases, the ECC of the host city of the Olympic Games is under great pressure, so it is necessary to pay attention to the ECC of the host city. The sustainable development of the Olympic Games is an important issue in the development of the Olympics, but the sustainable development plan of the Olympics is still being explored. It is suggested that the sustainable development of the Olympic Games needs to evaluate the ECC of the host city in the whole cycle, establish the principle of ecological priority to avoid the overload mode of ecological burden, strive to achieve carbon neutrality in the competition, and practice the idea of scientific frugality in running the competition.

Abstract (sommario):
In March 2021, the Session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has approved a new strategic roadmap, Olympic Agenda 2020+5, consisting of 15 recommendations. The title, Olympic Agenda 2020+5, has been chosen to reflect the fact that this new roadmap is the successor to Olympic Agenda 2020 and will guide the work of the IOC until 2025. Olympic Agenda 2020+5 builds on the results of Olympic Agenda 2020, which, in the six years since it was adopted in December 2014, has had a profound impact. It has strengthened the IOC by introducing changes intended to make the Olympic Games fit for the future, safeguard the Olympic values, and strengthen the role of sports in society. The 15 recommendations that make up Olympic Agenda 2020+5 are based on key trends concerning areas where sport and the values of Olympism can play a role in turning challenges into opportunities. The recommendations call upon the IOC to: strengthen the uniqueness and the universality of the Olympic Games; foster sustainable Olympic Games; reinforce athletes’ rights and responsibilities; continue to attract the best athletes; further strengthen safe sports and the protection of clean athletes; enhance and promote the Road to the Olympic Games; coordinate the harmonisation of the sports calendar; grow digital engagement with people; encourage the development of virtual sports and further engage with video gaming communities; strengthen the role of sport as an important enabler for the UN Sustainable Development Goals; strengthen the support to refugees and populations affected by displacement; reach out beyond the Olympic community; continue to lead by example in corporate citizenship; strengthen the Olympic Movement through good governance; innovate revenue generation models. The paper aims at analysing how principles contained in the Agenda 2020+5 can redesign a more inclusive model of the Olympic Games, with respect to all the stakeholders. Abstract (sommario):
The use of artificial intelligence in France is growing and intensifying in many areas, particularly in the field of justice. French President Macron has made it one of his government’s priorities to build on these assets and make France a world leader in AI. In parallel, the French government has deployed some efforts towards anticipating the regulatory challenges related to AI, the “National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence” launched as part of «France 2030» . As an illustration of the developments in artificial intelligence and its specific regulation, the French parliament passed a law to ensure the proper conduct of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games (Law N° 2023-380 of 19.05.2023). The law permits the use of the experimental “augmented video-protection” technology, which uses cameras equipped with AI systems to detect and report specific events in real time. French regulations begin already now in the area of justice and must continue in the fields of AI liability and intellectual property. AI is a source of fears, particularly for the respect of human rights, and requires a very elaborate legal and ethical environment that is flexible enough to avoid slowing down the development of AI. The AI Liability EU Directive complements the Artificial Intelligence Act by introducing a new liability regime that ensures legal certainty, enhances consumer trust in AI, and assists consumers’ liability claims for damage caused by AI-enabled products and services. But the new European AI Act does not resolve all issues that therefore need to be addressed nationally.

Abstract (sommario):
Sustainability is now fully integrated into the entire life cycle of the Olympic Games. The planning, preparation, and staging of the Winter Olympics have opportunities to create a sustainable legacy for the host cities for decades. The tangible and/or intangible impacts of the Winter Olympics on the host city are multidimensional, including economic, social, and environmental aspects. However, there are still few studies on the multidimensional impact of the Winter Olympics on the sustainable development of the host city. This paper aims to investigate the effects of the 2022 Winter Olympics on host city sustainability from public perspective. Using a survey of 806 host residents in Beijing and Zhangjiakou, the authors performed descriptive statistics and regression analysis to analyze the effects of the Winter Olympic Games on the city’s sustainable development. The Winter Olympic Games are divided into three stages, including the pre-game phase, in-game phase, and post-game phase, and the impacts cover three dimensions, including economic, social, and environmental aspects. The results show that the 2022 Winter Olympics integrate sustainability into the whole process of the Winter Olympics; the Winter Olympics have an important catalytic effect on the host city’s sustainable development.

Abstract (sommario):
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games has brought great strides in terms of equality and inclusion. At least 185 publicly out LGBTIQ+ athletes have attended this global mega-event, which is more than triple the number from the 2016 Rio Olympics. This study investigates the sports participation of the LGBTIQ+ group based on qualitative method of literature review and logical analysis. It first examines the literature about the LGBTIQ+ group's sports participation and then sheds light on the evolution of gender characteristics of Olympics and sports from a historical research perspective. Finally, taking Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games as an example, this work discusses the state quo and future of the LGBTIQ+ group's Olympic participation. The results indicate that sex discrimination in sports has a long history. As the most important global sporting event, the Olympic Games have gone through different stages from the "male-exclusivity" to the gender binary system. However, true gender equality has not yet been realized. In addition, it points out that the Tokyo Olympics is of positive significance for promoting inclusiveness and equality. The ever-developing inclusiveness and diversity will probably break the gender competition mechanism of the Olympic Games. Sports institutions need to deal well with issues of gender equality and fair competition

Abstract (sommario):
Fewer and fewer countries have bid to host the Olympic Games in recent years because of the negative short- and long-term impacts that bidding to host the Games has had on the country. A sustainable and healthy Olympic Games will have a huge positive impact on the country, so it is quite meaningful to assess the ability of an Olympic Games to be sustainable. In order to assess the success of the Olympic Games, we designed the Olympic Sustainability Index (OSI) as a primary indicator. Then, using McKinsey Logic Tree Analysis, we constructed a three-level evaluation index system, and we designed three secondary indicators and 10 tertiary indicators. The entropy weight method was used to determine the weights between the three-level indicators, and CRITIC weighting method was used to determine the weights between the second-level indicators, and finally an OSI evaluation model was built. After that, we collected the data of tertiary indicators from 1992 to 2020 Winter Olympics and Summer Olympics, and based on the above evaluation model, we got the OSI of each Olympic Games, among which the Vancouver Winter Olympics and Beijing Summer Olympics had the highest index. Since the OSI of the Olympic Games fluctuates greatly, in order to attenuate it, we propose the strategy of "fixed host city", i.e., selecting Vancouver and Beijing as the host cities of the Winter Olympic Games and the Summer Olympic Games, respectively.
