Abstract (sommario):
Modern American nursing has an extensive ethical heritage literature that extends from the 1870s to 1965 when the American Nurses Association issued a policy paper that called for moving nursing education out of hospital diploma programs and into colleges and universities. One consequence of this move was the dispersion of nursing libraries and the loss of nursing ethics textbooks, as they were largely not brought over into the college libraries. In addition to approximately 100 nursing ethics textbooks, the nursing ethics heritage literature also includes hundreds of journal articles that are often made less accessible in modern databases that concentrate on the past 20 or 30 years. A second consequence of nursing’s movement into colleges and universities is that ethics was no longer taught by nursing faculty, but becomes separated and placed as a discrete ethics (later bioethics) course in departments of philosophy or theology. These courses were medically identified and rarely incorporated authentic nursing content. This shift in nursing education occurs contemporaneously with the rise of the field of bioethics. Bioethics is rapidly embraced by nursing, and as it develops within nursing, it fails to incorporate the rich ethical heritage, history, and literature of nursing prior to the development of the field of bioethics. This creates a radical disjunction in nursing’s ethics; a failure to more adequately explore the moral identity of nursing; the development of an ethics with a lack of fit with nursing’s ethical history, literature, and theory; a neglect of nursing’s ideal of service; a diminution of the scope and richness of nursing ethics as social ethics; and a loss of nursing ethical heritage of social justice activism and education. We must reclaim nursing’s rich and capacious ethics heritage literature; the history of nursing ethics matters profoundly.

Abstract (sommario):
Background : Entrepreneurship in nursing has enormous and promising opportunities for a nurse. It includes palliative care / home care, nursing counseling, caregiver training, physiotherapy services and others. However, the development of entrepreneurship in nursing still faces several obstacles.Purpose The aim of this study was to explore the development of entrepreneurship in nursing.Method The method used in this study was literature review. Several data bases including Google schoolar, Garuda, National Library, DOAJ, PubMed, Sciencedirect, and Proquest were used. Keywords were chosenin accordance with MESH (Medical Subject Heading), including “kewirausahaan keperawatan”, “hambatan kewirausahaan keperawatan”,"mahasiswa keperawatan", "nursing entrepreneurship", "nursing entrepreneurial", "barrier of nursing entrepreneur", "opportunities of nursing entrepreneur”, and “nursing student” in April 2020. Based on the search results there were 4 national and 4 international articles related to the topic and match the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Findings Findings from 8 articles indicated that obstacles faced by entrepreneur nurses were more due to a lack of entrepreneurial knowledge, experience, and skills. There are several ways to overcome obstacles that occur in nursing entrepreneurship, namely: increasing entrepreneurial knowledge and experience, identifying opportunities via internet or social media, and always interacting among fellow entrepreneurs, patients and the community to find opportunities that have never been found before. The solution to develop nursing entrepreneurship is to increase the interest, knowledge, skills, training and experience of nursing entrepreneurs. This research is expected to be used as an evaluation of entrepreneurship learning and nursing entrepreneurship development programs. Conclusion In conclusion, the development of nursing entrepreneurship is still facing some obstacles that need to be overcome. The main key lies in increasing knowledge, interests and skills through entrepreneurial training and education.

Abstract (sommario):
Background: Medical Assistance in Dying, also known as euthanasia or assisted suicide, is expanding internationally. Canada is the first country to permit Nurse Practitioners to provide euthanasia. These developments highlight the need for nurses to reflect upon the moral and ethical issues that euthanasia presents for nursing practice. Purpose: The purpose of this article is to provide a narrative review of the ethical arguments surrounding euthanasia in relationship to nursing practice. Methods: Systematic search and narrative review. Nine electronic databases were searched using vocabulary developed from a stage 1 search of Medline and CINAHL. Articles that analysed a focused ethical question related to euthanasia in the context of nursing practice were included. Articles were synthesized to provide an overview of the literature of nursing ethics and euthanasia. Ethical Considerations: This review was conducted as per established scientific guidelines. We have tried to be fair and respectful to the authors discussed. Findings: Forty-three articles were identified and arranged inductively into four themes: arguments from the nature of nursing; arguments from ethical principles, concepts and theories; arguments for moral consistency; and arguments from the nature of the social good. Key considerations included nursing’s moral ontology, the nurse–patient relationship, potential impact on the profession, ethical principles and theories, moral culpability for acts versus omissions, the role of intention and the nature of the society in which euthanasia would be enacted. In many cases, the same assumptions, values, principles and theories were used to argue both for and against euthanasia. Discussion: The review identified a relative paucity of literature in light of the expansion of euthanasia internationally. However, the literature provided a fulsome range of positions for nurses to consider as they reflect on their own participation in euthanasia. Many of the arguments reviewed were not nursing-specific, but rather are relevant across healthcare disciplines. Arguments explicitly grounded within the nature of nursing and nurse–patient relationships warrant further exploration.

Abstract (sommario):
Social justice advocacy is an expectation of all nurses as expressed in the professional codes that guide nursing practice. Nursing literature reflects this shift in the focus of nursing advocacy, providing insight into the potentials and challenges associated with nursing’s evolution toward a broader social justice advocacy model. This article describes the concept of social justice advocacy as currently reflected in professional codes and nursing literature and contrasts this with the individual patient–nurse advocacy model, which continues to dominate in nursing practice today. Challenges associated with movement toward a social justice advocacy model and options for addressing these hurdles are also discussed.

Abstract (sommario):
This article is part of a wider study entitled Value of Nursing, and contains the literature search from electronic databases. Key words for the search included `values of nursing', `values in nursing', `organisational values' and `professional identity'. Thirty-two primary reports published in English between 2000 and 2006 were identified. The findings highlight the importance of understanding values and their relevance in nursing and how values are constructed. The value of nursing is seen to be influenced by cultural change, globalization, and advancement in technology and medicine. These factors are crucial in providing a more structured and measured view of what nursing is, which will result in greater job satisfaction among nurses, better nurse retention and enhanced patient care within a supportive and harmonious organization. The findings of this review have implications for policy makers in recruitment and retention in determining the global value of nursing.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose: To identify the frequency and types of reference errors in neonatal-maternal nursing literature. This study was an extension of earlier research on reference accuracy in pediatric and critical care nursing journals.Design: A random sample was selected of references in three nursing journals: Neonatal Network: The Journal of Neonatal Nursing; Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic, and Neonatal Nursing; and The American Journal of Maternal/Child Nursing. References were compared against original publications, and errors were classified as major or minor based on criteria used in earlier studies. Results: Fifty-four of the 221 references had errors, for an overall error rate of 24.4 percent. Major errors were found in 21.3 percent of the references, and minor errors were calculated at 3.2 percent. Errors in the author’s name were most common, followed by errors in titles of articles and books. The rates of reference errors in this study were lower than those reported previously in the nursing and medical literature.

Abstract (sommario):
Introduction:Nurses’ broad knowledge and treatment skills are instrumental to disaster management. Roles, responsibilities, and practice take on additional dimensions to their regular roles during these times. Despite this crucial position, the literature indicates a gap between their actual work in emergencies and the investment in training and establishing response plans.Aim:To explore trends in disaster nursing reflected in professional literature, link these trends to current disaster nursing competencies and standards, and reflect based on the literature how nursing can better contribute to disaster management. Methods:A systematic literature review, conducted using six electronic databases, and examination of peer-reviewed English journal articles. Selected publications were examined to explore the domains of disaster nursing: policy, education, practice, research. Additional considerations were the scope of the paper: local, national, regional, or international. The International Nursing Councils’ (ICN) Disaster-Nursing competencies are examined in this context. Results:The search yielded 171 articles that met the inclusion criteria. Articles were published between 2001 and 2018, showing an annual increase. Of the articles, 48% (n = 82) were research studies and 12% (n = 20) were defined as dealing with management issues. Classified by domain, 48% (n = 82) dealt with practical implications of disaster nursing and 35% (n = 60) discussed educational issues. Only 11% of the papers reviewed policy matters, and of these, two included research. Classified by scope, about 11% (n =18) had an international perspective.Discussion:Current standards attribute a greater role to disaster-nursing in leadership in disaster preparedness, particularly from a policy perspective. However, this study indicates that only about 11% of publications reviewed policy issues and management matters. A high percentage of educational publications discuss the importance of including disaster nursing issues in the curricula. In order to advance this area, there is a need to conduct dedicated studies.

Abstract (sommario):
Introduction: Complexity in the healthcare environment causes problems in nursing practice. The nursing code of ethics has been designed as an appropriate guideline for behavior and helps decision-making. Nursing ethics requires nurses to comply with ethical principles to produce quality nursing care. Therefore, this study aims to illustrate the importance of nursing ethics as a foundation for nursing practice. Methods: In the case of the current research, the articles were selected according to PRISMA guidelines. A literature review used three journal databases: ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Google Scholar. The keywords in this literature review are adjusted to the Medical Subject Heading (MeSH), which consists of "nursing ethics," "code of ethics," AND "professional nurse." Several inclusion criteria were set to obtain eligible articles published between 2014 and 2023 and written in English and Bahasa. Fifteen eligible articles were finally included in the analysis. Results: These findings highlight the critical role of understanding ethics, integrity, and moral responsibility and the importance of nursing codes of ethics in implementing nursing practice to improve the quality of nursing care and improve the quality of care Conclusion: Nursing ethics is ethos. Integrity and moral responsibility are at the heart of ethics. Nurses must have an understanding of ethics for self-development and nursing services. As a relevant source, the code of ethics refers to the system of rules. Applying the code of ethics in nursing practice improves the quality of nursing care and service to guarantee patient safety.

Abstract (sommario):
Shame is a universal living experience that is just beginning to be explored within the discipline of nursing. Development of a broad understanding of shame is needed to aid nurse researchers in clarifying this phenomenon from a nursing perspective. Pursuant to this goal, the author in this article reviews the extant literature on shame from the disciplines of nursing, psychology, sociology, philosophy, and theology. Three themes that emerged from the scholarly literature were (a) shame propels miring in paralysis, (b) shame captures the illusionary seen-unseen, and (c) shame permeates the struggle for identity.

Abstract (sommario):
Nursing services, as one of the primary services in hospitals, are inseparable. Patient satisfaction is one indicator of measuring the success of a hospital's services. This study aimed to determine the relationship between nursing services and patient satisfaction. This article uses a literature review study through a quantitative approach with content analysis to identify the article's main theme. The data of this research are from national and international based reputable journals. Data collection through Google Scholar for the period of 2018-2021, with the theme of nursing services and patient satisfaction. A review of 20 articles shows that nursing services are essential to hospital service and must continue to be improved. The effect of nursing services is fair to all hospital patients, not distinguishing between insurance and non-insured patients. One of the factors that support the sustainability of the hospital is nursing services. The level of patient satisfaction affects the hospital's image in the community.

Abstract (sommario):
This analysis was guided by 2 questions: Should nursing curricula be infused with caring? How might literature on caring contribute to the curricular infusion? To address the 1st question, the author examined nursing as a discipline, drawing on concepts from A. J. King and J. A. Brownell (1976), and on research and informal empirical information. The author concluded that (a) caring is a significant idea in nursing’s communities of discourse; (b) teaching about caring has positive outcomes; and (c) caring should be a formal component of nursing curricula. To answer the 2nd question, the author explored the literature on caring, concluding that significant scholarship exists to support infusion. The author illustrates practical approaches to infusion, such as enhancing faculty knowledge of relevant literature and using current periodical literature across program levels.

Abstract (sommario):
The quality of hospital services depends on the quality of nursing care provided to patients, Nurses are a large fleet in hospitals both in terms of number and hours of service because nurses are 24 hours with patients. Patient satisfaction is an indicator of the quality of care that has been provided to patients, which until now has become the focus of attention for every health service to further enhance the role and function of nurses in improving the quality of care. The aim is to identify the effect of the implementation of Nursing Rounds on patient satisfaction—systematic review using electronic databases identified from Pubmed, EBSCOhost and Google Scholar. Search using keywords, namely nurse, Nursing rounds, hourly rounds and patient satisfaction. The search results contained seven articles that were filtered from 2017-2021 which showed that Nursing rounds could increase patient satisfaction, improve patient safety, and prevent extravasation of infusion fluids. Nursing rounds can also be done together with other professions. Nursing Rounds activities carried out by nurses in a measured and planned manner can increase patient satisfaction. Patient satisfaction is greatly influenced by the role of nurses in carrying out nursing rounds for patients.

Abstract (sommario):
When it comes to determining what constitutes nursing workload, there are a number of approaches that represent and characterise the work of nursing across the three traditional shift patterns (morning/day, afternoon/evening and night). These are observational, self-reporting and work-sampling techniques. A review of the quantitative and qualitative literature to examine workload distributions between the three nursing shifts was undertaken. Using data sourced from the CINAHL, Scopus and Medline databases, the findings suggest that there is an inadequacy in establishing nursing productivity that is perhaps representative of the methods used to decipher nursing workload. This may contribute to poor quality care, and the high cost of excess nursing time contributes to the increasingly high costs of care. Linked to this is the nurse's job satisfaction. Quality of care and job satisfaction are important factors for the sustainability of the nursing workforce. There are few high-quality nursing articles that detail the workload distributions across the three nursing shifts and this is a potential area for further research.

Abstract (sommario):
Objectives Gender bias has been found in medical literature, with more men than women as first or senior authors of papers, despite about half of doctors being women. Nursing is about 90% female, so we aimed to determine if similar biases exist in nursing literature. Design Taking the eight non-specialist nursing journals with the highest impact factors for that profession, we counted the numbers of men and women first authors over 30 years. Setting We used nursing journals from around the world which attract the highest impact factors for nursing publication. Participants Eight journals qualified for entry, three from the United Kingdom, four from the United States of America, and one from Australia. Main outcome measures Using Chi-square and Fisher exact tests, we determined differences between the numbers of men and women across all the journals, between countries (USA, UK and Australia), changes over the 30 years, and changes within journals over time. Results Despite the small proportion of men in the nursing workforce, up to 30% of first authors were men. UK journals were more likely to have male authors than USA journals, and this increased over time. USA journals had proportions of male first authors consistent with the male proportion of its nursing workforce. Conclusions In the UK (though not in the USA) gender bias in nursing publishing exists, even though the nursing workforce is strongly feminized. This warrants further research, but is likely to be due to the same reasons for the gender gap in medical publishing; that is, female nurses take time out to have families, and social and family responsibilities prevent them taking opportunities for career progression, whereas men's careers often are not affected in such ways.

Abstract (sommario):
Background: There have been a number of debates in the field of nursing ethics. Researchers have focused on various aspects of nursing ethics, such as professional ethics, professional, nursing and ethical values. Within this research, a variety of literature reviews have been conducted, but to the best of our knowledge, bibliometric mapping has not yet been used. Objective: This article aims to analyse the production of literature within nursing ethics research. Research design: In order to examine publishing patterns, we focused on publishing dynamics, prolific research entities and the most-cited articles. We additionally visualised the content of the literature using a novel mixed-method approach, combining bibliometric analysis and mapping with thematic analysis. Ethical considerations: In our study, ethical review was not required. Findings: A total of 1416 information sources were found in the Scopus database. Overall, literature production has increased; however, in recent years, the quantity of published material has begun to decrease. The most prolific countries are the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, and the most prolific source titles are Nursing Ethics, Journal of Advanced Nursing and Nursing Times. Lately, research in the field of nursing ethics has been focused more on life care (providing for the basic needs of older residents), moral distress and community nursing. Discussion: The dynamics of research literature production showed an exponential rise in the number of published information sources – a rise which started in the period between 1974 and 1998. Since that period, the trend has stabilised, which might indicate that nursing ethics research is starting a transition to a mature phase. Conclusion: The innovative use of bibliometric analysis and mapping, together with thematic analysis, is a useful tool for analysis of research production in the field of nursing ethics. The results presented can be an excellent starting point for literature reviews and more exhaustive data, information and knowledge seeking.

Abstract (sommario):
Research on artificial intelligence (AI) in health services is increased in recent decades, demonstrating great potential for improving the quality of care. However, the application of AI in nursing raises concerns regarding data bias and the potential impacts on patients. In addition, research on AI and the benefits in nursing is still limited. The aim of this study was to outline the results of research on AI technology in nursing services. The research method was literature review. Searches for relevant studies were carried out on several databases, such as PUBMED, Scopus, and Google Scholar by using keywords and terms related to nursing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning between 2012 and 2022. The inclusion criteria included research and development or AI-based technological validation used in nursing services and the research design, including experiment or observation with qualitative, quantitative, or mixed approached. Meanwhile, the exclusion criteria were articles which are irrelevant to nursing, non-experimental, non-observational, or literature review. The results showed total of 3,713 articles found only 10 articles fulfilled the criteria. The use of AI in nursing services can provide many benefits, but it requires careful consideration too. Therefore, more research is needed to address the challenges faced and to maximize the potential of AI in improving the quality of nursing services.
