A coupled neutronics thermal-hydraulics code NODAL3 has been developed based on the nodal few-group neutron diffusion theory in 3-dimensional Cartesian geometry for a typical pressurized water reactor (PWR) static and transient analyses, especially for reactivity initiated accidents (RIA).The spatial variables are treated by using a polynomial nodal method (PNM) while for the neutron dynamic solver the adiabatic and improved quasi-static methods are adopted. A simple single channel thermal-hydraulics module and its steam table is implemented into the code. Verification works on static and transient benchmarks are being conducted to assess the accuracy of the code. For the static benchmark verification, the IAEA-2D, IAEA-3D, BIBLIS and KOEBERG light water reactor (LWR) benchmark problems were selected, while for the transient benchmark verification, the OECD NEACRP 3-D LWR Core Transient Benchmark and NEA-NSC 3-D/1-D PWR Core Transient Benchmark (Uncontrolled Withdrawal of Control Rods at Zero Power). Excellent agreement of the NODAL3 results with the reference solutions and other validated nodal codes was confirmed

Topological semimetals are characterized by symmetry-protected band crossings, which can be preserved in different dimensions in momentum space, forming zero-dimensional nodal points, one-dimensional nodal lines, or even two-dimensional nodal surfaces. Materials harboring nodal points and nodal lines have been experimentally verified, whereas experimental evidence of nodal surfaces is still lacking. Here, using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), we reveal the coexistence of Dirac nodal surfaces and nodal lines in the bulk electronic structures of ZrSiS. As compared with previous ARPES studies on ZrSiS, we obtained pure bulk states, which enable us to extract unambiguously intrinsic information of the bulk nodal surfaces and nodal lines. Our results show that the nodal lines are the only feature near the Fermi level and constitute the whole Fermi surfaces. We not only prove that the low-energy quasiparticles in ZrSiS are contributed entirely by Dirac fermions but also experimentally realize the nodal surface in topological semimetals.

In vertebrates the endoderm germ layer gives rise to most tissues of the digestive tract and controls head and heart morphogenesis. The induction of endoderm development relies on extracellular signals related to Nodals and propagated intracellularly by TGFβ type I receptors ALK4/Taram-A. It is unclear, however, whether Nodal/ALK4/Taram-A signalling is involved only in the specification of endodermal precursors or plays a more comprehensive role in the activation of the endodermal program leading to the irreversible commitment of cells to the endodermal fate. Using cell transplantation experiments in zebrafish, we show that marginal cells become committed to endoderm at the onset of gastrulation and that commitment to endoderm can be reached by intracellular activation of the Nodal pathway induced by expression of an activated form of the taram-A receptor, Tar*. In a manner similar to endoderm progenitors, Tar*-activated blastomeres translocate from their initial site of implantation in the blastoderm to reach the surface of their migration substratum, the yolk syncitial layer, where they join endogenous endodermal derivatives during gastrulation and differentiate according to their anteroposterior position. We demonstrate that Nodal/Tar*-induced commitment does not rely on a secondary signal released by Tar*-expressing cells or a signal released by endogenous endoderm since Tar*-expressing wild-type cells can restore endoderm derivatives when transplanted into the endoderm-deficient mutant casanova. Likewise, the YSL does not appear essential for the maintenance of endodermal identity during gastrulation once the Nodal pathway has been activated. Thus, our results demonstrate that the activation of Nodal signalling is sufficient to commit cells both to an endodermal fate and behaviour. Wild-type endoderm implantation into casanova embryos rescues, in a non-autonomous fashion, the defective fusion of the two heart primordia in the midline, highlighting the importance of endoderm for normal heart morphogenesis.

Background: Nodal failure is a major failure pattern for patients with FIGO IIIC cervical cancer, which is further associated with worse survival. This study was designed to investigate risk factors for nodal failure in FIGO IIIC cervical cancer patients. Methods: The characteristics of positive lymph nodes (LNs) and relevant clinical factors of 162 FIGO IIIC cervical cancer patients were collected. The chi-square test and logistic regression model were used to identify risk factors for nodal failure. Results: In total, 368 positive LNs were identified, including 307 pelvic LNs and 61 para-aortic LNs. The nodal failure rates for all LNs, pelvic LNs, and para-aortic LNs were 9.2%, 7.8%, and 16.4%, respectively. After 20 fractions of RT, a nodal short diameter (D20F) ≥ 0.95 cm and a ratio of nodal shrinkage (ΔV20F) < 0.435 resulted; <4 cycles of chemotherapy indicated higher nodal failure rates for all LNs. For pelvic LNs, ΔV20F < 0.435 and <4 cycles of chemotherapy were associated with a higher incidence of nodal failure. For para-aortic LNs, ΔV20F < 0.435 was the only risk factor for nodal failure. Conclusions: Para-aortic LNs were more likely to experience nodal failure than pelvic LNs. Nodal shrinkage during radiotherapy and cycles of chemotherapy were associated with nodal failure in patients with FIGO IIIC cervical cancer.

Abstract Background.—The term primary lymph node gastrinoma was first used to describe a group of patients with gastrin-producing tumors present in lymph nodes located in a well-defined anatomic region. The patients had no known primary tumors in the pancreas or gastrointestinal tract and had disease-free survival for up to 18 years. The anatomic region in question has a triangular shape that extends from the cystic and common bile ducts to the second and third portion of the duodenum and the neck and body of the pancreas. The term gastrinoma triangle was coined to identify the area; in addition, it was postulated that lymph nodes located in the gastrinoma triangle normally contained neuroendocrine cells capable of secreting gastrin and other neuropeptides. From its inception, the postulate became the subject of controversy. Design.—To extend previous observations, we examined the lymph nodes located in the gastrinoma triangle of 20 autopsy cases for the presence of neuroendocrine cells, as determined by immunohistochemistry, using antibodies to a panneuroendocrine substance (eg, synaptophysin) and a specific neuropeptide (eg, gastrin). Scanning for positive cells was performed by 2 observers (M.E.H. and M.C.C.). We compared the findings in these lymph nodes with lymph nodes obtained from axillary and inguinal dissections during surgical procedures. Results.—In all, 417 lymph nodes were studied. Five of the 20 gastrinoma triangle cases contained synaptophysin reactive cells, whereas 3 had gastrin reactive cells. None of the axillary and inguinal lymph nodes contained neuroendocrine cells. Conclusion.—Our findings support the hypothesis of entrapment of neuroendocrine cells during development and the presence of primary nodal gastrinomas.

Benign vascular tumors arising primarily in lymph nodes are rare. The importance of identifying these entities is to avoid misdiagnosing them as malignant vascular tumors, which occur more often in lymph nodes. Hemangioma is a benign nodal vascular tumor, but its occurrence in lymph nodes is extremely rare. Hemangiomas can occur at any age, mostly in females. It is usually asymptomatic, affects only one node, and does not recur. Four histologic types of hemangioma have been identified: capillary/cavernous, lobular capillary, cellular, and epithelioid. This review highlights the key features of previously reported cases and discusses the differential diagnosis.

The synthesis of this text comes from a contemporary appraisal of the term “the closet” and its current place in culture since the advent of cybernetics. The authors’ assertion is that this metaphor, one that is rooted in the iconography of the late-capitalist home, is in a moment of transition and constant redefinition. In this paper, the authors explore and assess three basic modern manifestations of the homosexual rite of passage and how they have been rendered obsolete, adapted, or in some respects, catalyzed by new media and mobile technology. The charting of these changes is evaluated as a ’nodal’ phenomenon within queer culture and is paired with Michel Foucault’s notion of heterotopia to better explore the spatial qualities of this shifting circumstance. The closet term is part of a continuum; one marked by intersecting moments of connectivity. In this article, the authors assess the term mainly in relation to a pre-computer era, a personal computer era and a mobile computer/smartphone era.

Nach einer kombinierten Radiochemotherapie sind Rezidive beim lokal fortgeschrittenen Zervixkarzinom häufig. In der prospektiven Phase-I-Studie erhielten Frauen nach der Standardbehandlung eine Immuntherapie mit dem CLTA4-Antikörper Ipilimumab. Die Immuntherapie erhöhte das progressionsfreie Überleben (PFS) und das Gesamtüberleben (OS) nach 1 Jahr.

The author uses a multilayered dialogue of narrative and interruptions to provide a conversational space between [her] plethora of nodes. Following in the steps of Deleuze (1968/1994) to think differently, the author presents this piece as a reflection of the meaning making [she] (re)produces surrounding her doctoral program research. Throughout this paper, [she] continues to (re)produce “muddled lines” (Gale & Wyatt, 2008, p. 361) in what it means for [her] to be a novice researcher within the assemblage of academia.

Abstract (sommario):
Na aula de 15 de janeiro de 1974 de O seminário, livro 21: les non-dupes errent, Lacan afirma a convergência do modal e do nodal. O objetivo deste trabalho é acompanhar as elaborações anteriores de seu ensino que permitiram tal conclusão, o que parece fundamental para a aproximação ao método borromeano e a suas implicações lógicas e linguísticas. Consideram-se as fórmulas da sexuação, presentes em O seminário, livro 20: mais ainda, como um matema de transição entre os discursos e a topologia borromeana. Essa transição é extremamente complexa, já que implica a construção de uma homologia entre a lógica e a topologia, interrogando a noção de linguagem compatível com a psicanálise. Trata-se de desenvolver a ideia de que o inconsciente é uma classe aberta e paradoxal, tal como Lacan desenvolve naquele seminário. Será preciso, portanto, acompanhar essa construção em três níveis: lógico, topológico e linguístico. Neste trabalho, será tratado apenas o nível lógico, deixando os demais para desenvolvimentos posteriores.
