Dryland salinity is increasing in the upper catchments of central and northern New South Wales, Australia. Consequently, salts may be exported downstream, which could adversely affect cotton irrigated-farming systems. In order to assess the potential threat of salinity a simple salt balance model based on progressively saline water (i.e., ECiw 0.4, 1.5, 4.0 and 9.0 dS/m) was used to simulate the potential impact of salinisation due to the farming systems. The study was carried out in the lower Namoi valley of northern New South Wales, Australia. A comparison has been made of the various non-linear techniques (indicator kriging, multiple indicator kriging and disjunctive kriging) to determine an optimal simulation method for the risk assessment. The simulation results indicate that potential salinisation due to application of the water currently used for irrigation (ECiw) is minimal and may not pose any problems to sustainability of irrigated agriculture. The same results were obtained by simulation based on irrigation using slightly more saline water (ECiw 1.4 dS/m). However, simulations based on irrigation using water of even lower quality (ECiw of 4 and 9.0 dS/m), shows potential high salinisation, which will require management inputs for sustainable cropping systems, especially legumes and wheat, which are used extensively in rotation with cotton. Disjunctive kriging was the best simulation method, as it produced fewer misclassifications in comparison with multiple-indicator kriging and indicator kriging. This study thus demonstrates that we can predict the salinity risk due to application of irrigation water of lower quality than that of the current water used. In addition, the results suggest here problems of excessive deep drainage and inefficient use of water might be a problem. The second part of this thesis deals with soil information required at the field scale for management practices particularly in areas where deep drainage is large. Unfortunately, traditional methods of soil inventory at the field level involve the design and adoption of sampling regimes and laboratory analysis that are time-consuming and costly. Because of this more often than not only limited data are collected. In areas where soil salinity is prevalent, detailed quantitative information for determining its cause is required to prescribe management solutions. This part deals with the description of a Mobile Electromagnetic Sensing System (MESS) and its application in an irrigated-cotton field suspected of exhibiting soil salinity. The field is within the study area of part one of this thesis-located about 2 km south west of Wee Waa. The EM38 and EM31 (ECa) data provide information, which was used in deciding where soil sample sites could be located in the field. The ECa data measured by the EM38 instrument was highly correlated with the effective cation exchange capacity. This relationship can be explained by soil mineralogy. Using different soil chemical properties (i.e. ESP and Ca/Mg ratio) a detailed transect study was undertaken to measure soil salinity adjoining the water storage. It is concluded that the most appropriate management option to remediation of the problem would be to excavate the soil directly beneath the storage floor where leakage is suspected. It is recommended that the dam not be enlarged from its current size owing to the unfavourable soil mineralogy (i.e. kaolin/illite) located in the area where it is located.

Abstract (sommario):

This thesis evaluated the potential for managed aquifer recharge (MAR) in the Namoi basin. The catchment was hydrologically characterised. Several studies combining remote sensing and hydrologic information were carried out. The first study sought to study the open water evaporation at the catchment scale, and the long-term changes in rainfall, temperatures, humidity, and reference evapotranspiration. These present evidence of a general intensification on the water cycle and a reduction in the frequency of surface water, leading to less lumped evaporation, but increasing evaporation per unit surface. This justifies the implementation of alternative water storage methods, such as MAR. Likewise, spatiotemporal patterns of flooding in the catchment and their frequency were studied considering the water surplus from those events as a key aspect for the development of a MAR project. Thus, algorithms for water volume quantification during floods and the frequency of such events were also evaluated. The groundwater flow medium was studied using natural language processing (NLP). An NLP model specific for geosciences was developed. This demonstrated to be more effective than general domain models in characterising the multidimensional space between concepts of a specific domain. Using this model, lithological descriptions from boreholes were classified and interpolated to build 3D lithological models. These allowed characterising the hydrogeological setting in the region. Lastly, suitability areas for MAR projects were mapped using hydrological, hydrogeological, and lithological characteristics in the catchment. These maps were validated through the study of groundwater recharge in an area of interest selected by its high suitability. However, the potential for the development of such projects is ultimately limited by current water regulations and water entitlements.

The problem of water scarcity has become one of the most controversial topics in Australia over the past decades, with particular focus being the ‘sustainable’ allocation of water between extractive and environmental purposes. Geographical factors are defining the extreme variability in climate and water supply in Australia and, in the past, this was used as a rationale for the construction of large irrigation projects to deliver water to rural, urban, and industrial users. During this ‘expansionary’ phase of Australia’s water use sector, the cost of augmenting supply was relatively low and environmental considerations were secondary to the development imperative. As a result, water resources became over-allocated for extractive uses spurred on by consistent underpricing of water, which indicated a failure to reflect the true cost of water supply. As Australia’s water economy entered a ‘mature’ phase, it was no longer possible to increase supply cheaply as the most easily accessible water resources had already been captured. This was followed by widespread environmental degradation manifested in the Murray- Darling Basin, the nation’s largest river basin which hosts much of Australia’s agricultural production. Consequently, the focus shifted towards demand management, leading to a myriad of regulation aimed at increasing the allocative efficiency of scarce water resources. Towards this end, substantial government funding was injected into the various initiatives throughout the water reform process. Despite the on-going government activities in the area of water reform, the understanding of the actual economic impact and environmental outcomes of various water policies in practice remains limited. In the absence of such understanding, the effectiveness of various government water initiatives is ambiguous and inevitably compromised. The present study addresses this knowledge gap by establishing a method for evaluating the economic and environmental outcomes of environmentally-oriented polices that affect irrigated industries in a catchment. The method is based on an integrated biophysical and economic modelling approach, which enables spatial relationships to be captured accurately allowing a more realistic analysis. Information generated from a computer based biophysical simulation model form the basis of an economic optimisation model with constraints pertaining to environmental targets and water supply limits. The economic model consists of a linear programming and dynamic programming component, and involves the optimisation of resource use from a catchment manager’s perspective, seeking to achieve efficient resource use but at the same time conform to given environmental objectives. This embedded linear and dynamic programming approach was required to determine the optimal intra-seasonal and inter-seasonal water allocation, given various catchment environmental targets. The interdisciplinary approach enables the economic and ecological outcomes of the catchment management policies to be simulated and assessed at a spatially explicit scale, due to the link to Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in the biophysical model. The overall objective was to create a decision-making framework that could be used to determine the least-cost means of meeting environmental targets and resource constraints. The solutions to the analysis are directly applicable to the case study, the Mooki catchment in northern New South Wales (NSW), but with an adaptable framework that can be applied to other catchments. Specific objectives include an evaluation of the possibility of using alternative irrigation systems, as well as an evaluation of the benefits that can be realised by establishing water market, in the light of environmentally-oriented catchment policies for the case study. The economic cost of achieving environmental targets pertaining to environmental flow requirements and salinity reduction, in the form of end-of-valley salinity targets, was explicitly calculated through the economic model. While salinity targets have been set for NSW catchments, the practicality of such targets is in question, given the substantial reductions in water allocation to irrigation activities, which is one of the key contributors to deep-drainage. An additional objective in this study was therefore to investigate the value of having deep drainage targets. A further consideration is the effect of “external agents” in the form of government plans to buyback entitlements from irrigation districts, or the possibility of significant water rights purchases from mining industries. The implications of external water market entrants on the regional agricultural industry were examined.

In the past, it was widely assumed that deep drainage and the resultant movement of salts, nutrients and organochlorine pesticides was negligible in Vertosols (self-mulching grey and brown clays, and black earths) of the Lower Namoi Valley, New South Wales, Australia. Recent research however has shown that in fact deep drainage does occur. The main concern, therefore, is their movement beyond the reach of crop roots. Groundwater systems in the Lower Namoi Valley have been reported to be declining, suggesting that deep drainage is not reaching groundwater. Accumulation of salts, nutrients and organochlorine pesticides (OCP’s) may, therefore, be occurring below the root zone in particular regions of the Lower Namoi Valley. The objective of this study was to estimate deep drainage using chloride mass balance models and quantify the salt, nutrient and OCP movement under selected management systems in irrigated Vertosols sown with cotton. Four experimental sites were established to study deep drainage and the movement of salts, nutrients and OCP’s in irrigated Vertosols; one at the Australian Cotton Research Institute (ACRI) Myall Vale, another near Wee Waa, a third at Merah North, which has a sodic sub-soil, and a fourth near Narrabri, which is irrigated with treated sewage effluent. Magistro baigiamojo darbo tikslas – suprojektuoti lietuvių bendruomenės namus Londone ant vandens lietuvių emigrantams bendrauti, socialinei paramai teikti, visuomenei informuoti ir šviesti. Darbą sudaro dvi darbo dalys: tiriamoji (tekstinė) ir projektinė. Tiriamojoje dalyje pateikta: surinkta medžiaga, susijusi su modulinių pastatų, pastatų ant vandens ir bendruomenės centrų projektavimo ypatumais, jų koncepcijomis ir įgyvendinimo rezultatais, funkcijų ir formų kitimo istoriniame kontekste apžvalga; alternatyvių situacijų apžvalga ir pasirinktos situacijos analizė, problemiškumas, poreikiai ir galimybės, plėtros ateityje planai. Projektinę dalį sudaro: urbanistinis situacijos planšetas (M 1:500) ir pastato su artimiausia aplinka maketas (M 1:100); konceptualūs galimi sprendimo variantai; detalus projektuojamo pastato sprendinys – generalinis planas, planai, pjūviai, fasadai, modulio detalizacija, eksterjero ir interjero perspektyviniai vaizdai. The aim of this master thesis is to design Lithuanian community centre in London on water for Lithuanian emigrants to communicate, educate, social support, and public information. The paper consists of analytical and project parts. Analytical part presents collected main material about modular buildings, buildings on water, design features of community centers, concepts and final results of implementation, review of their function and form development in historical context; review of alternative situations for centre and selected location analysis, issues, needs and possibilities, development plans. Project part consists of urban situation tablet (M 1:500) and building model with surroundings (M 1:100); conceptual solutions, detailed projected building – master plan, plans, sections, elevations, module detailing, exterior and interior perspective views.

Magistro darbą „Individualus namo interjeras“ sudaro dviejų aukštų namo išplanavimas, kuriame kūriau interjerą. Stengiaus, kad jame derėtu funkcionalumas ir geros emocijos, kokybė ir patogumas, išskirtinumas ir jaukumas. Kuriant namo interjerą dailininkui pirminių vizijų nebuvo viskas gimę palaipsniui. Didelis namo plotas diktavo tam tikrus sprendimus, tad interjere persipynė įvairių stilių detalės. Minimalizmą sušvelninau klasikiniais akcentais – taip buvo užmegztas dialogas tarp tradicinės klasikos ir šiuolaikinio stiliaus. Manau jei interjere nebus justi emocijos, jis taps formalus. Šiame interjere dominuoja natūralios medžiagos, žemės spalvų koloritas. Greta subtilių rudų, pilkų, smėlio ir samanų atspalvių intuityviai atsirado juoda spalva kuri tapo puikia atsvara pasteliniams tonams, savotišku karkasu, laikančiu spalvinę pusiausvyrą. Norėdama patraukti žiūrovą dėmesį svetainės zonoj, radau vieta ir motociklui pakabinti, tai įgyvendinti leido aukštos lubos. My work ,,Individual Interior of The House" consists of the plan of two stored house in which I designed its interior.I tried to combine suitability and good mood, quality and comfortability, unique and cosiness. Creating interior the ideas came gradually. Huge area of the building suggested certain solutions so there are a lot of details of various styles.Classical ideas made a link between traditional classical style and contemporary style. I think the emotions are very important to make interior informal so I used natural materials and earth's colours. beside brown, grey, sand and moss colour I used black as well. In order to gain people's attention I hung the motorbike on the wall in the living room as the ceiling is high.

The objective of this master thesis is to review different single family house building technologies, conceptions and opportunities of using solar power, analyze few different detached houses, investments to different building parts and create optimization model which would allow to forecast lifecycle cost of a project. Thesis contains: introduction, where issues of the topic , purpose and tasks are discussed; analytic part – building technologies of single family houses, main advantages, disadvantages and differences, building conceptions, history, requirements and aspects of different conceptions are presented, opportunities of passive and active solar power usage in detached houses; methodical - research part – evaluation of few different single family houses, analysis of investments to building envelope constructions, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and building operation cost, creation of optimization model by using regresion analysis method; conclusions and suggestions; references. Baigiamajame magistro darbe nagrinėjama postmodernizmo stiliaus raiška privačiuose gyvenamuosiuose namuose Lietuvoje, nuo XX a. 9 dešimtmečio vidurio iki 10 dešimtmečio pabaigos. Siekiant atskleisti šio stiliaus bruožus, specifiką ir kultūrinę reikšmę Lietuvoje darbe analizuojami Vakarų pasaulio (JAV, Vakarų Europos, Japonijos) privačių gyvenamųjų namų etalonai bei sąlygos, nulėmusios jų raidą. Darbe nustatoma, kad to meto socialiniai, politiniai, ekonominiai veiksniai Lietuvoje, iš esmės lėmė ir šios architektūros nepažinimą ir kritišką vertinimą. Daroma prielaida, kad dėl politinių-ekonominių veiksnių, užsienio profesinė periodika buvo viena iš pagrindinių priemonių postmodernizmo architektūrai pažinti. Todėl atliekama privačių gyvenamųjų namų publikuotų užsienio periodiniuose leidiniuose ir Lietuvoje lyginamoji analizė. Nustatomi charakteringiausi Lietuvos postmodernizmo architektūros privačių gyvenamųjų namų bruožai ir jų sąsajos su užsienio architektūra. The goal of Master thesis is to investigate expression and features of postmodern style of private dwelling-houses of Lithuania, from the middle of the 9th decade to the 10th decade of the twentieth century. In order to reveal the characteristics, features and cultural significance of the style in Lithuania, the private dwelling-houses of postmodern style of the Western world (the U.S., Western Europe, Japan) are analyzed, as well as conditions which prompted their development. The paper discusses that the social, political and economic factors of Lithuania at that time, led to the suspicion and critical evaluation of postmodern architecture in general.It is assumed that due to the political-economical factors, the Western magazines were one of the main tools for Lithuanian architects to get to know postmodern architecture. Therefore, a comparative analysis between private dwelling-houses published in foreign periodicals, and of Lithuania, is conducted. Consequently the most common features of private dwelling-houses of postmodern style in Lithuania and their links with Western architecture are determined. Houses of Lithuania of high quality postmodern architecture are named, their valuable properties are defined. Thesis consists of: 92 p. text without extras, 57 pictures., 9 schemes, 99 bibliographical entries, 3 appendixes included.

Technologijos sparčiai plečiasi, tačiau išlieka labai svarbus klausimas – centralizuotas namo sistemų valdymas. Šiame darbe tiriamos priemonės, skirtos namo inžinerinių mazgų ir sistemų automatizavimui, ir centralizuotam valdymui. Analizės dalyje pateikiama šiuo metu siūlomų įsigyti protingų namų sistemų, pastato valdymo ir automatizavimo sistemų apžvalga ir jose naudojamų standartų apžvalga ir trūkumai ir sistemų integracijos galimybės. Specifikacijoje apibrėžiamos protingo namo sistemos atliekamos funkcijos bei vartotojo atliekamos funkcijos. Sistemos funkciniai reikalavimai yra pateikiami naudojant UML diagramas. Pateikiami nefunkciniai reikalavimai, kuriuos turi atitikti sistema tam, kad ji būtų saugi ir veiktų korektiškai. Projektavimo dalyje pateikiama suprojektuota protingo namo sistemos struktūra, protingo namo sistemos serverio, valdiklio ir nuotolinio valdymo programinė įranga ir kompiuterių nuotolinio valdymo programinė įranga. Testavimo dalyje pateikiamas sistemos prototipo testavimas, kuris susideda tiek iš atskirų posistemių, tiek ir iš apjungtų sistemos posistemių testavimo. Taip pat pateikiami testavimo rezultatai. Eksperimento dalyje tiriamas įmonės, kuri įsikūrusi keturių aukštų pastate kompiuterių suvartojamos energijos kiekis ne darbo metu, ir bandoma pritaikyti suprojektuotą protingo namo sistemą įmonės kompiuterių valdymui – sumažinti kompiuterių suvartojamos energijos kiekį įmonės ne darbo metu. The technologies are developing rapidly; however, an important issue, i.e. centralized control of home systems, still remains. This paper presents an analysis on of the tools designed for the automation of the home engineering services and systems, and centralized control. The analytical part is focused on reviewing the currently available smart home systems, building control and automation systems, the standards employed in such systems, their drawbacks and system integration possibilities. The specification defines the functions of the smart home systems and those of their users. The functional requirements of the system are visualized by employing UML use case diagrams. Also, non-functional requirements that the system must comply with to be safe and to operate adequately are presented. The design part of the paper presents the structure of a designed smart home system, the software for the smart home system server, controller, and remote control, and the computer remote control software. The testing part of the paper includes the testing of the software prototype which is comprised of both separate subsystem and connected subsystem testing. Also, the testing results are provided. Sukurtas interjeras keturių aukštų name Londono centre - tai tarsi harmonija tarp seno ir naujo. Šis pastatas - klasikinis Viktorijos laikų XIX amžiaus pradžioje statytas šeimos namas su autentiška architektūra bei apdaila. Šis namas yra istorinis paveldas, priklausantis antro žymėjimo pastatų grupei, kuri reiškia, kad pastatui galima keisti tik interjerą, o eksterjerą privaloma išlaikyti tą patį, t.y. interjere sienos gali būti griaunamos, tačiau langai privalo būti nepakeisti. Esamo pastato interjere vyrauja mažos, siauros erdvės , būdingos Viktorijos laikų architektūrai. Kambariai aukšti - sienų aukštis sudaro tris metrus. Viso projektuojamo pastato kvadratūra yra 200 kv.m. Konversijos metu, keičiant individualaus gyvenamojo namo interjerą, siekiama sukurti racionalią funkcinę schemą. Žmonės privalo jaustis patogiai judėdami tiek vertikalia, tiek horizontalia kryptimi. Taip pat interjeras turi atitikti estetinę, grožinę funkciją. Pirmame aukšte pro pagrindinį įėjimą galima patekti į visas projektuojamas zonas. Kadangi visą namą sudaro keturi aukštai, nutarta kiekvieną aukštą pritaikyti vis skirtingai funkcijai, t.y. išskiriamos keturios pagrindinės zonos: valgomojo, svetainės, svečių zona ir savininko privati zona - miegamasis. This house is a historical heritage that belongs to the second group of buildings, designation, which means that the building can only change the interior and exterior must maintain the same level, in interior walls can be ruined, but the windows must be viewed. Existing building interior dominated by small, narrow space, characterized by Victorian architecture. High rooms - wall height of three meters. Total projected of the building is 200 sq.m. Conversion, changing the interior of the individual house, to create a rational functional scheme. People need to feel comfortable moving both vertically and horizontally. As well as interior to meet the aesthetic, fiction feature. On the ground floor through the main entrance is possible to get to all the projected areas. This thesis describes the author's research in the field of Real-Time Control (RTC) for Adaptive Optics (AO) instrumentation. The research encompasses experiences and knowledge gained working in the area of RTC on astronomical instrumentation projects whilst at the Optical Science Laboratories (OSL), University College London (UCL), the Isaac Newton Groups of Telescopes (ING) and the Centre for Advanced Instrumentation (СfAI), Durham University. It begins by providing an extensive introduction to the field of Astronomical Adaptive Optics covering Image Correction Theory, Atmospheric Theory, Control Theory and Adaptive Optics Component Theory. The following chapter contains a review of the current state of world wide AO instruments and facilities. The Nasmyth Adaptive Optics Multi-purpose Instrument (NAOMI), the common user AO facility at the 4.2 William Herschel Telescope (WHT), is subsequently described. Results of NAOMI component characterisation experiments are detailed to provide a system understanding of the improvement optimisation could offer. The final chapter investigates how upgrading the RTCS could increase NAOMI'S spatial and temporal performance and examines the RTCS in the context of Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) class telescopes.

Baigiamajame magistro darbe nagrinėjamas tipinis daugiabutis pastatas ir jam pritaikytos energiją generuojančios sistemos. Darbo tikslas – daugiakriterio vertinimo metodu nustatyti optimalų energijos aprūpinimo technologinį sprendinį pagal energinį, ekologinį ir ekonominį kriterijus. Tyrime nagrinėjama centralizuoto šilumos tiekimo sistema, dujinis katilas, oras–vanduo ir gruntas–vanduo šilumos siurbliai, saulės kolektoriai, saulės elementų bei visų šių sistemų kombinacijos. Tyrimui naudojami realūs šilumos suvartojimai ir statistiniais metodais nustatyti elektros energijos poreikiai. Sistemos nagrinėjamos modeliuojant EnergyPRO programa. Visoms sistemoms atlikta inventorinė analizė, nustatyti sunaudojamos energijos ir išsiskiriančių teršalų kiekiai visų sistemų gyvavimo fazių metu. Atlikus sistemų modeliavimą ir kitus tyrimus paaiškėjo, kad optimali yra kombinuota sistema susidedanti iš gruntas-vanduo šilumos siurblio, saulės kolektorių, saulės elementų ir centralizuoto šilumos tiekimo. Tokios sistemos šilumos savikaina yra 18,7 ct/kWh, teršalų emisija – 0,131 CO2 kg ekv/kWh/100 metų, pirminės energijos poreikis – 2,50 MJ/kWh/100 metų. Tokia sistema padengia beveik 85 % pastato metinio šilumos poreikio. Tyrimo rezultatai gali būti pritaikyti daugiabučių namų renovacijai. Darbą sudaro 14 skyrių. In this thesis a typical apartment building and its own energy generating systems were examined. The goal of this work – to determine the optimum power supply technology solution for energy supply, using multi-criteria analysis according to several criteria: energetical, environmental and economical. The study examined the district heating system, gas boiler, air-to-water and ground-water heat pumps, solar collectors, solar cells, and the combination of these systems. The study uses real heat consumption and statistical methods to determine power requirements. Systems were analyzed using EnergyPRO simulation program. For all systems were performed inventory analysis, to determine the energy consumption and the quantity of emissions of all the systems life phases. After system modeling and other studies results showed, that the optimum system is combined system of the ground-to-water heat pump, solar panels, solar cells, and district heating cost – 18.7 ct/kWh; Emission of pollutants – 0,131 CO2 eq kg/kWh/100 years; Primary energy demand – 2.50 MJ/kWh/100 years. Such a system covers nearly 85% of the building's annual heat demand. The results can be applied to residential buildings projects of renovation. The work consists of 14 chapters. This thesis is a study of the autobiographical writings of Naomi Mitchison, a prolific writer of exceptional versatility who was born in the last years of the Victorian period and is now best known as a writer of fiction, and as part of the 'Scottish literary Renaissance' of the first half of the twentieth century. In her late seventies, towards the end of a highly productive literary career, Mitchison published three volumes of autobiography, Small Talk: Memoirs of an Edwardian Childhood (1973), All Change Here: Girlhood and Marriage (1975) and You May Well Ask: A Memoir 1920-1940 (1979). Unusually for retrospective memoir, however, these texts cover less than half of her hundred and one years, leading the reader to question the location and mode of her complete autobiographical writings. Working extensively with archival material, much of which has been previously unavailable, this thesis sets out to demonstrate that Mitchison's personal writings are far more extensive than have been previously acknowledged, and are to be found through a wide range of out-of-print and unpublished material which include diaries, travel writing, personal correspondence, and, in few instances, poetry and prose fiction. In the course of this research I have compiled two substantial volumes of source materials which have been lodged in the Department of Scottish Literature Library. A contribution to Mitchison studies in themselves, I here draw attention to their existence and availability. While at first sight many of the texts on which this study focuses are minor writings in relation to the major achievements of Mitchison's literary career, this thesis argues that as a collected body of work, they form an autobiographical corpus which documents and bears witness to an extraordinary twentieth-century life, and constitutes a substantial literary achievement. Autobiographical- and life-writings often escape strict generic boundaries, and this study employs genre theory to interrogate the categorisation of literary genre. Central to this focus on traditionally marginalised non-fictional writings are questions of the changing position of memoir, the diary, epistolary and travel writings to the canon, and recent theoretical approaches are examined.

Daugiabučių modernizavimo problema nagrinėjama, remiantis Europos Komisijos išleista "Energijos vartojimo efektyvumo pastatuose" direktyva. Darbe atkreipiamas dėmesys į mažų daugiabučių, kurie gyvenamųjų pastatų modernizavimo procese sudaro mažumą, sektorių. Darbe siekiama įvertinti tipinio mažo daugiabučio renovacijos galimybę iki beveik nulinės energijos pastato koncepcijos rodiklių, kuri buvo pateikta kaip reikalavimas visiems ES naujai statomiems pastatams nuo 2020 m. (viešosios paskirties - nuo 2018 m.) Tyrimo metu buvo atlikti eksperimentiniai elementų šiluminių savybių matavimai, kurie vėliau panaudoti pastato energijos balanso skaičiavimams bei energinio modelio sudarymui. Pritaikant dažniausiai naudojamas energijos taupymo priemones, modeliuojami keli mažai energijos vartojančio pastato variantai. Naudojantis programine įranga, sumodeliuotas galimas energijos tiekimas pastatui iš atsinaujinančių energijos šaltinių, siekiant užtikrinti kuo didesnę AEŠ dalį pastato energijos balanse. Atlikti ekonominiai modernizavimo variantų vertinimai. Pagal pasirinktą kriterijų pateiktas labiausiai šalies mastu tinkantis, atsižvelgiant į Lietuvos daugiabučių namų rinką, ekonominius bei energetinius rodiklius, daugiabučio energinis modelis. The issue of multi-residential building refurbishing is being analyzed reffering to the "Energy performance of building directive", introduces by European Commission. This paper puts attention to the share of buildings that takes the minority by participating in residential building renovation program. Research is made to assess the case study of refurbishing a small scale residential building achieving a performance of nearly zero energy building. In the directive it is stated, that from year 2020 all newly built buildings will have to be nearly zero energy. All new public buildings must have this energy performance from the year 2018. During the research, experimental measurements of thermal characteristics of thermal envelope elements were made. These results were used to stimulate the yearly energy balance and create energy model of the building. With the use of most common renewable energy techniques and energy saving measures, several energy models were analyzed. With the use of sophisticated computer software, possible energy supply schemes with high share of RES were introduced. Energy supply solutions were analyzed on an economic basis. Referring on set criterions, most suitable solution of energy supply scenario is offered, considering the real estate market, economic and energetic indexes of Lithuania.

This work is dedicated to the making and research of smarthouse control systems. The main problem in such systems is that there are many subsystems in the living house that we have to control in real time. Following tasks were completed in order to tackle this problem:  in-house processes analysis;  formal modeling methods analysis;  composition of control system model;  control system model verification. Petri nets were chosen as formal modeling method for control system. Control system model was created using timed Petri nets (TPN). Models of functional elements and control system model was simulated using Matlab software. Following conclusions were made after model research:  models of functional elements operated correctly;  models of functional elements can be used for systems with specific requirements;  control system model dispensed time for functional elements properly;  composed model can be easily changed and expanded;  composed model will be implemented and used in “Structural Solutions and Functionality Optimization of Dwelling Houses” project.

Analysis of market structure was done. The situation of construction sector was analyzed and types of individual living houses were described. Referring to various methods the concurrency analysis of panel houses manufacturing companies was done. The multi-criteria method established rationally working company in this sector. The questioner research discovered understanding and opinions of society about panel frame construction. After the research of panel frame living houses market in Lithuania had been done, the conclusions of final work were made. The work includes 8 parts: Introduction; Analysis of market structure; Survey of construction sector; Review of individual living houses in Lithuania; Market research of living houses in Lithuania; Market research of wooden panel frame living houses in Lithuania; Conclusions; List of literature. Personal and psychosocial problems of the teenagers living in the house of wardship, the opportunities oh their prevention and correction are discussed in this paper. A lot of scientific literature analysis is presented in it. You can also get acquainted with the formation of inner harmony in childhood and adolescence too. The peculiarities of teenagers` communication with contemporaries and adults as well as teenagers` psychological peculiarities and problems of social development are discussed there. The fields of activities of heads, teachers and nurses of training institutions, having connection with teenagers living in the houses of wardship, are analysed in the writing. There are also revealed qualitatively new and important spheres of activities, in which you can improve training work, while working with teenagers from the home of wardship in the gymnasium, basic school and home of wardship itself, solving their psychosocial problems. The research was done in 2004. The experimental group was organized from 30 teenagers from the house of wardship as well as similar control groups contemporaries of which live in their parent’s houses. Antroje dalyje, remiantis tam tikrais metodais (Porter 5 jėgos, PEST, 7 - S, SSGG), atliekama „Šv. Juozapo globos namų“ strateginė analizė. Trečioje darbo dalyje pateikiama „Šv. Juozapo globos namų“ socialinės globos paslaugų kokybės empirinio tyrimo metodika bei organizavimas ir rezultatų analizė. This Master's thesis analyzes and evaluates St. Joseph's Care Home’s internal and external environmental factors’ complex influence, identifies problematic areas and leads to the preconditions for organization's strategy formulation and preparation of strategic plan. The first part of the thesis defines the theoretical terms of social care services, strategic planning in theory and the peculiarities of social care services quality assessment by reviewing service quality evaluation models and empirical studies from foreign countries. The strategic analysis of St. Joseph's Care Home is performed in the second part of this thesis basing on certain techniques (Porter's five forces, PEST, 7 – S, SWOT). The third part of the thesis provides the methodology of St. Joseph's Care Home empirical research on social care service quality, organization and analysis of the results. The aimof the research is to compare the attitudes on services quality of individuals and their family members, who receive social services athomeand the ones living in carehome; also to identify the quality criteria that havethe greatestimpact on the general qualityassessment. Based on the results of strategic analysis the suggestions on how to improve organization’s performance are provided.

The National Alliance of Mental Illness’s Ending the Silence (ETS) program focuses on the epidemic of mental illness stigma among school- aged youth. The program is targeted specifically at high school- age youth, and aims to educate, dispel myths about mental illness and instill a message of hope and recovery all while encouraging students to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness. A trained presentation team containing two people, one of whom is a young adult who is living with mental illness or recovered from mental illness, delivers the program. Participants (n=142) completed assessments measuring their thoughts and attitudes towards people with mental illness, as well as a mental health facts questionnaire. Data wereas gathered from participants before the ETS presentation, after the ETS presentation, and 6 weeks later. The assessments consisted of both qualitative and quantitative data. Content analysis of the qualitative data revealed a consistent improvement in participants’ understanding and definition of mental illness. Youth reported understanding that mental illness can be a biological as well as developed illness. The majority of students (61.3%) self-reported their attitudes towards people with mental illness had become more positive after the presentation. The results of this study indicate that the Ending the Silence program is meeting its identified goals and objectives.

A análise aborda a linguagem poética como via de integração cultural entre a memória histórica coletiva e individual, no que se refere à intersecção da rememoração e ressignificação identitária representada entre o Mesmo e o Diverso, como comenta Edouard Glissant. O trabalho, assim, argumenta a relação do referente simbólico da tradição cultural cristalizada pelos projetos globais e a luta constante das narrativas locais na negociação do estado representativo do sujeito intersticial. A produção literária de Naomi Shihab Nye guia o leitor para um estado de contemplação semiótica dos signos construídos pela tradição. A mesma tradição responsável pelas concepções de “Oriente” e “Ocidente”. Os argumentos de Edward Said sobre o Orientalismo também foram usados para analisar a dicotomia “árabe”/ “americano”. O trabalho poético de Nye aponta para uma renovação do ponto de vista do leitor apresentando uma forma diferente de espiritualidade. Permitindo ao leitor acessar o seu repertório de signos culturais em direção à ressignificação. Os comentários de Mary Louise Pratt e Walter Mignolo, a cerca da noção de “transculturação” de Fernando Ortiz, nos impulsionam a ver a relação íntima entre logos, cogito e ethos em direção a corpos e espíritos humanos. A análise de Homi Bhabha sobre o terceiro espaço e a concepção de Pratt das “zonas de contato” coloca a poesia de Nye em posição de constate movimento cultural: nem “árabe”, nem “americano”: humano. Os comentários de Stuart Hall e Walter Mignolo sobre as relações transnacionais na condição da pós-colonialidade do poder mostrou-nos a diferença entre os olhares polarizado e intersticial. Ainda, Luiz Cota Lima e Theodore W. Adorno são os pontos referenciais sobre as teorias a cerca da mímesis da representação real e imaginária. Nossa abordagem entende a concepção de linguagem e estrutura social que foram observadas nos trabalhos de Naomi Shihab Nye como fundamentais na interação humana com a natureza.

SANTRAUKA Pagrindinis šio darbo ir tyrimo tikslas – remiantis subjektyvia biologinių motinų nuomone, ištirti vaikų patekimo į kūdikių namus priežastis.Tyrimo metu stengtasi pažvelgti giliau ir paanalizuoti tėvų požiūrį ne tik į vaikų patekimo į kūdikių namus priežastis, bet ir į kitus dalykus, tokius kaip pačių motinų vaikystės išgyvenimai, galimos sąsajos tarp motinų santykių su tėvais ir jų pačių santykių su savais vaikais, požiūrį į išsilavinimą, darbą, pastangas kabintis į gyvenimą ir keisti esamą situaciją. Iškelti tokie tyrimo uždaviniai: ištirti motinų požiūrį į vaiko patekimo į kūdikių namus aplinkybes; palyginti motinų pateiktas vaikų patekimo į kūdikių namus priežastis su duomenimis iš vaikų bylų; ištirti, kokius jausmus išgyvena motinos, vaikams pakliuvus į kūdikių namus; išanalizuoti, ar tiriamų motinų tėvų šeimos modelis galėjo turėti įtakos motinoms vaiko palikimui kūdikių namuose; ištirti motinų požiūrį į dabartinę gyvenimo situaciją ir planus ateičiai. Tyrimo duomenys gauti dviem anketavimo būdais: 1) pagal informaciją, sukauptą vaiko asmens byloje, užpildyta anketa, 2) anketa, skirta vaikų, augančių kūdikių namuose, tėvams. Tyrime dalyvavo 20 kūdikių namų auklėtinių mamų, oficialiems duomenims gauti išanalizuotos 100 vaikų bylos. Visa medžiaga surinkta Vilniaus apskrities sutrikusio vystymosi kūdikių namuose. During the research the author tried to make a deeper insight into the problem and analyse the parents‘ attitude towards not only the reasons of settling their children into a residence for infants, but also other issues, such as their mothers‘ childhood experience, possible links between mothers‘ relationship with their parents and their own children, their attitude towards education, work, efforts to survive in life and possible changing of the present situation. Tema: Kūdikių namų vaikų psichomotorinės, kognityvios ir socialinės raidos ypatumai Globos institucijose augančių vaikų psichomotorinės raidos vystymosi ypatumai yra viena svarbiausių tyrinėjamų sričių. Visais laikais buvo aktuali vaikų, neturinčių galimybių augti biologinėje šeimoje, problema. Kūdikių namuose labai sunku gyvenimo sąlygas priartinti prie šeimos modelio, todėl vaikas augdamas globos institucijoje nuo pirmųjų gyvenimo dienų patiria didelį emocijų ir stimulų trūkumą – tai neigiamai veikia jo psichomotorinę raidą. Norint pagerinti kūdikių namuose augančių vaikų gyvenimo kokybę, svarbu ištirti šių auklėtinių psichomotorinius, kognityvinius ir socialinius raidos ypatumus, kuo anksčiau atpažinti vaikus, turinčius raidos problemų ir tokiu būdu užtikrinti jam savalaikę pagalbą. Tyrime nustatomi kūdikių namų vaikų psichomotorinės raidos vystymosi ypatumai, priklausomai nuo pedagoginio poveikio, lyties ir gimdymo traumos. Šio darbo tikslas yra ištirti DISC (Diagnostic Inventory For Screening Children, 1998 m - vaiko raidos vertinimo skalių metodika) metodu kūdikių namų vaikų psichomotorinės, kognityvinės ir socialinės raidos ypatumus. Children without any chance to grow in biologic family were the topical problem at all times before. It is complicated to approach life conditions of the sheltered housing to the normal family model, consequently the child who has grown in sheltered housing from the first days of his life could feel the huge lack of emotions and incentives – all those things could do negative influence on his psychomotor development. On purpose to reform the quality of children’s which are living in sheltered housing life, it’s important to explore the children’s psychomotor, cognitive and social development peculiarities, for the more it’s important to recognize as sooner as possible the child which has problems of development – it could help him to vouchsafe the first help. Group communication is the most important mode of communication in ad hoc networks, because of the collaborative nature of mobile ad hoc applications. In this light, an efficient and light weight multicast routing protocol is necessary. Presently the multicast routing is either done entirely at the network layer, or at the application layer as stateless overlay mulitcasting. Owing to the dynamic nature of ad hoc networks, the first method incurs a large signaling overhead due to frequent modification of routing tables and exchanging of session state information. The latter approach uses the underlying unicast routing to build multicast data distribution trees without maintaining session state information thereby trading efficiency for minimal messaging overhead. For small groups with constant bound on the number of multicast group members, the overlay schemes, apart from having a trivial signaling overhead, are also known to be far more efficient than the network layer schemes. But the existing overlay schemes do not completely exploit the `knowledge' possessed by the network layer; they just use the unicast routing at the network layer. We believe that, even for larger groups, the overlay schemes can function with reasonable efficiency along with trivial signaling overhead if they intelligently use the network layer information. In this thesis, we propose a network assisted multicast routing scheme, NAMO NAMAHA, which primarily operates as an overlay while getting assistance from the network layer unicast routing protocol, CEDAR. The overlay algorithms dynamically build an approximate Steiner data distribution tree, adopting the (CHINS)_T (Cheapest Insertion Heuristic with Table) algorithm for the distributed implementation of the well known Takahashi-Matsuyama heuristic. The Steiner trees are incrementally built over a subgraph of core nodes, which form the approximate Minimum Dominating Set (MDS) over the network nodes. The core nodes get computed by a network layer heuristic using local data at that layer, and they provide useful information for the NAMO NAMAHA tree computation algorithms at the overlay layer. The main idea in this thesis is that if the construction of overlays is aided by some minimal but useful information from the network layer that is almost invariant, local and that which would incur constant memory overhead, efficient overlays can be constructed. This thesis presents the algorithms for the protocol NAMO NAMAHA, offers proof of correctness for the protocol and shows that the time and memory complexity of the algorithms in the protocol are either constant, or linear with the number of graph edges or nodes. We compare our work with the MCEDAR protocol in terms of the cost of the multicast data distribution trees, the number of messages exchanged in building them and the time and memory complexity of the algorithms involved. We choose MCEDAR since other multicast protocols for ad hoc networks are either network based which does not scale for large nubmer of nodes, or function as overlays designed only for small groups. When compared to MCEDAR, NAMO NAMAHA has a simpler join protocol implemented by our unique Unicast Trap algorithm that does not make use of acknowledgements. Unlike MCEDAR, the sender discovery messages are not propagated all over the network; they are restricted to regions where it is absolutely necessary. In NAMO NAMAHA, at any given time, a path exists between any multicast subscriber and the sender (which is approximately the best path possible) with very high probability. Such a guarantee cannot be given in MCEDAR. Furthermore because of the incremental Steiner tree construction, the resulting multicast data distribution tree has nearly the least total cost. Cost is not minimized in MCEDAR. These advantages are obtained in NAMO NAMAHA just by using extra messages during tree construction, whose number is well below the actual number of nodes in the multicast group. The time and memory complexity of the NAMO NAMAHA algorithms are in the same order as that in MCEDAR.

The growth of children who are given to the state care, forces us to dwell on their further destiny. It seems that the state children care system is still considered the only way of solving the problem, without taking into consideration the individuality of each situation. Children who get into children institutions lose family warmth and care, but every child should have these rights. A lot of socially and pedagogically abandoned children get into foster care institutions. Organizing the work in foster care institutions it is important to pay a special attention to children and adults communication, in solving different children’s problems. The staff of foster care institutions is an organizer of life in these institutions, on whom a lot of things depend, such as children attitude towards themselves and others, feelings and beliefs, values and ideals, character traits and behavior, preparation for independent life, positive communication with peers and adults. Ever since the laborious consultation process to set the National Greenhouse Response Strategy (1991-1992), stakeholder 'consultation' has been something Australian governments do. Or attempt to do. A recent trend in NSW in particular has been to expand the concept and practice of consultation to multi-party, collaborative decision-making, also referred to as participatory democracy. One such initiative officially begun in August 1997 is the River Management Committee (RMC) exercise. For this tremendous outlay of financial and human resources, the government is taking a punt that the committee will deliver better decisions, and more timely actions, on river flows and water quality in each of the major regulated river valleys in the state. The set up and first year of operation of the RMC exercise is the subject of this thesis. Specifically it examines the design of the process and its appropriateness to the task at hand; the reality of consensus decision-making amongst people with opposing views; the democratic ideal of participants learning to be 'other directed' in terms of putting aside their own positions to work for the common good; and affordability of such exercises from both the government and non-government participants' points of view. The themes emerging from this thesis have become the focus for further research.

Naomi Mitchison (1897-1999) was an accomplished Scottish author noted for her historical fiction. Her literary career was prolific and lengthy, moving through several phases. From the early 1930s through the 1960s, Mitchison wrote primarily Scottish works. Whether in setting, characterisation, or concern, her literature during these years was for the Scottish people. In this reader’s estimation, Mitchison’s greatest contribution to the Scottish literary world was her ability to write engaging story while constructively recreating strong national mythos and setting forth models of healthy, loyal communities. Mitchison first is artist; therefore, any social agenda she embraces finds expression in art (whether these concerns be socialism, feminism, education, the arts, agricultural practices, or fishing, to name a few). This thesis will trace the themes in her earlier and later periods of the Scottish phase of her literary art, with The Bull Calves as focal point not only of this study, but also of the Scottish period of her writing. Exploration of the early works (1930s-40s) and the later works (1950s-60s and the later Early in Orcadia) will highlight themes that recur throughout her literary career. While not new to her particularly Scottish works, recurring themes take on new significance in light of Mitchison’s political involvement with the Labour Party and her local Community of Carradale. Mikhail Bakhtin’s study of narratology acknowledges the inherent political nature of language, and how the lexical range of characters within a text signifies particular class, occupation, religious and/or political propensity. When examining The Bull Calves, Bakhtinian method will be applied to the text, illustrating Mitchison’s utilisation of the facets of language to refract meaning within the text.

Das Verständnis der Nächstenliebe, wie sie im Neuen Testament entfaltet wird, hatte seit jeher größten Einfluss auf die konkrete Umsetzung der Inhalte christlich-sozialer Bewegungen. Sie wird begründet als eine christliche Pflicht, Berufung und Verehrung Gottes. Die Gesellschaft des 19. Jahrhundert nahm die Verbreitung der Ideen von planmäßiger Arbeit geistig und physisch behinderter Menschen, mit Verkündigung des Evangeliums und unter Ausdruck der Hilfe in christlicher Liebe (Innere Mission), also im heutigen Sinne sozialer Tätigkeiten, als Zuständigkeitsbereich religiöser Organisationen wahr. Die sozialen Prinzipien der christlichen Kirchen, die in theologisch begründeten Werten, theologisch-humanitären Motivationen und zielgerichteter Orientierung verwurzelt sind, konnten ob ihrer Normativität auch in staatlichen Institutionen angewandt werden. Ein an geistigen Werten orientiertes Management hat über die Effektivität der christlichen sozialen Organisationen entschieden. Die wichtigste Funktion eines Sozialverbandes besteht im Aufbau einer Verbindung zwischen dem Menschen, der sich in einer schwierigen Situation befindet, und den ihn umgebenden gesellschaftlichen Strukturen. Cette thèse explore la nouvelle voie empruntée par les auteurs autochtones publiant en français au Québec dans les dernières années, en prenant comme exemple les œuvres des romancières contemporaines Virginia Pésémapéo Bordeleau (Ourse bleue, 2007, L’amant du lac, 2013 et L’enfant hiver, 2014) et Naomi Fontaine (Kuessipan, 2011 et Manikanetish, 2017). Lorsque cette littérature émerge au début des années 1970, elle est surtout politique et polémique, et elle est accompagnée d’analyses qui se penchent sur les aspects sociocritiques des textes et le message qu’ils transmettent. Si les auteures abordent aujourd’hui encore des thématiques reliées à l’histoire de leurs nations respectives, leur intégration a changé; les textes semblent présenter ces questionnements d’un point de vue plus subjectif. Pour expliquer ce phénomène, ce travail s’interroge sur la tension entre la parole individuelle et collective que l’on retrouve dans les œuvres de Pésémapéo Bordeleau et de Fontaine, sur les caractéristiques littéraires de leurs romans et sur la notion de « décolonisation personnelle », afin de mettre en lumière une certaine « poétique de l’intime », une intériorité dominante dans la façon d’exposer les conséquences de la colonisation par rapport à la génération antérieure.

It has been reaching epidemical proportions worldwide due to the sedentary lifestyle and the raise of obesity and old age. It causes acute and chronic complications in several organs and systems. Health education plays an effective role in preventing these complications, which is to keep glycolic and blood pressure in adequate levels. To do this it is necessary to change the lifestyle of the diabetic population. The efficiency of the treatment depends mainly on the realization the person has of his/her illness, learning how to take care of oneself in order to avoid or reduce the difficulties faced. It was carried out an epidemiologic study transversal type with the aim of outlining the bio-psychosocial profile of the diabetic population at Dendê community(DC) registered at the Núcleo de Assistência Médica Integrada (NAMI) in Fortaleza, Ceará from July to August 2004. It was a social project which had voluntary help of health professionals. It was created a patterned profile to allow a multi-professional evaluation in one single day. The results showed that the subjects studied had mainly type 2 diabetes and are women who present signs of stress and depression. The great majority faces unemployment and low income. They live in their own houses and enjoy running water and electricity. They have refrigerators and televisions but no sewage system. They are metabolically imbalanced for they had great prevalence of high levels of HbAlc and LDL and low levels of HDL. They still showed risk factors such as obesity, hypertension, and high cardiovascular risk, despite the physical activities the subjects studied reported to be doing. They present clear signs of the chronic complications of a diabetic patient according to cardiac, neurological, ophtalmological, and renal viewpoint as well as the diabetic foot. As educational measure it was created a calendar with important information about the care with this sickness. According to the data obtained in the research it was concluded that the implementation of compensatory politics and measures in order to minimize the chronic complication of diabetes and the social differences of the subjects studied is reached. Diabetes mellitus é uma doença séria e economicamente devastadora, que vem alcançando proporções epidêmicas mundiais decorrente do estilo de vida sedentário, do aumento da obesidade e da idade avançada da população. Cursa no doente com complicações agudas e crônicas em vários de seus órgãos e sistemas. A educação em saúde desempenha um papel efetivo na prevenção dessas complicações, que é manter um controle glicêmico e pressório arterial adequados, e modificar o estilo de vida da população diabética. A eficácia do tratamento depende, em grande parte, da conscientização que tem o indivíduo da síndrome de que é portador, aprendendo a se autocuidar para evitar ou minimizar as dificuldades a que está exposto. Com o objetivo de traçar o perfil bio-psicossocial da população diabética da Comunidade do Dendê (CD) cadastrada no Núcleo de Atenção Médica Integrada (NAMI), foi desenvolvido um estudo descritivo do tipo transversal no NAMI, na Cidade de Fortaleza-CE, no período de julho a agosto de 2004. Tratou-se de um projeto social que, com a ajuda voluntária de profissionais da saúde, foi elaborado um prontuário padronizado permitindo que em um só dia os diabéticos da CD recebessem avaliação multiprofissional. Os 78 indivíduos estudados foram predominantemente diabéticos do tipo 2, do sexo feminino, idosos, e apresentam sinais de estresse e de depressão. A grande maioria 59,4% enfrenta o desemprego, possui baixa renda familiar, mora em casa própria com água encanada, luz elétrica, geladeira e televisão, sem saneamento básico. Metabolicamente estão descompensados visto a prevalência de 88,4% de HbA1c e 76,8% de LDL-colesterol em níveis elevados, 72,5% de HDL-colesterol baixo, possuindo ainda fatores de risco tais como 54,1% de tabagismo, 19,7% de etilismo, 37,3% apresentam microalbuminúria, 51,6% estão com elevado índice de sobrepeso, 74,2% são portadores de hipertensão arterial e 52,2% possuem alto risco cardiovascular, apesar da atividade física ser praticada regularmente em 59,3% da população estudada. Apresentam sinais evidentes das complicações crônicas do diabetes do ponto de vista cardíaco, neurológico, odontológico, oftalmológico, renal e pé diabético. Como medida educacional foi elaborado um calendário com informações importantes sobre os cuidados com o diabetes. Concluímos a partir dos dados obtidos na pesquisa que urge o implemento de medidas e políticas compensatórias para amenizar as complicações crônicas do diabetes e as desigualdades sociais da população estudada.
