Abstract (sommario):
The Lisnbook (or speaking book) is a book that is read aloud. This audiobook needs to be available verbally, in schools, in public libraries, and gradually in music stores. It is often more useful in poetry and theater than in books. It was not until the 1980's that the center began to attract booksellers, and booksellers began displaying audio books on bookshelves instead of keeping them separate .

Abstract (sommario):
The first edition of the First Book for five voices of Giovanni Maria Nanino has been lost, and with it its dedication. A close reading of several of the texts in the book offers clues to the date of that first edition and the circle or circles of patronage that may have nourished the book’s origin. This study is concerned principally with the final group of four “occasional” texts in the book—texts apparently referring to particular persons or occasions—and the much-set amorous lyric in the center of the book. I propose that these five madrigals are connected to a circle of patronage in the late 1560s in Florence and Rome, and that the patrons are Isabella de’ Medici, her husband, Paolo Giordano Orsini, and his distant relative Cardinal Flavio Orsini. In addition to Nanino I discuss the composers Stefano Rossetti, Filippo di Monte, and Maddalena Casulana.

Abstract (sommario):
A book of an artist is a specific object of art presenting an authorial utterance overcoming the bounds of book-printing, in which either a text or a picture can be present. At the center of attention in the article is the book Rukopashnyi tanets. Istoriya lyubvi i sopernichestva, ob"ektivno otrazhennaya v dokumentakh i skhemakh, gde prichudlivo splelis' dva iskusstva: muzykal'no-khoreograficheskoe i voenno-rukopashnoe [Hand-to-Hand Dance. The Story of Love and Rivalry, Objectively Reflected in Documents and Schemes, in which Two Arts Have Fancifully Entwined: The Musical-Choreographic and the Hand-to-Hand-Military] (2010) created by Russian artists Pavel and Natalia Martynenko, which is examined in the angle of receptive aesthetics. The edition includes archival documents, photographs, drawings and schemes. On the basis of studies of this material, the author of the article interprets the artistic conception of the book in a philosophical sense. In the present art-object the notion is realized according to which life is a dance. Meanwhile, the process of the self-development of a personality involved in such a life appears in a ceaseless struggle with itself, as well as with the circumstances of life, which makes it possible to understand the title of the composition better. The book is begun and completed by music pages copied by hand by an anonymous music lover in the early 20th century. Such an artistic solution leads to the understanding of music by the ancient Greek sages. In particular, for the Pythagoreans music demonstrated itself as a sort of “Ariadne’s thread,” which determined the path towards the mysteries of existence, initiating the human being into universal harmony and thereby providing the opportunity of acting in unison with cosmic vibrations. Appealing to the opinion of Boris Asafiev, who asserted that gesture, along with mimic and dance, serves as a reference point in the creation of musical speech, the author arrives at the conclusion that the protagonists who become alive on the pages of the artist’s book, are led through life by music.

Abstract (sommario):
I am writing to provide further information in response to inquiries about my recent article on performance issues in Gorecki's music (Tempo 211). The symposium I referred to, at which the composer was present, was titled ‘The Gorecki Phenomenon’, and, in addition to my own, included presentations by Adrian Thomas, Luke Howard, David Kopplin, Mark Swed, and Maria Anna Harley, who organized and chaired the event (and translated the commentaries of Mr Gorecki, who had much to say). This session, along with entire ‘Gorecki Autumn’ at the University of Southern California, was organized to celebrate the endowement of the Directorship of the Polish Music Reference Center by Dr Stefan and Mrs Wanda Wilk, founders of this important resource on Polish music in North America (the website can be consulted at http://www.usc.edu/dept/polishmusic/). A book collecting the research presented at this symposium, along with the lectures and interviews given by the composer during his time in Los Angeles, is forthcoming, edited by Ms Harley.

Abstract (sommario):
<p>In the research, an explanatory case study was carried out which is a kind of qualitative research. By presenting a model implementation, how to create outdoor centers and teachers’ views on the designed model are introduced with the purpose of making a contribution to teachers and preschool education institutions. Within this framework, by receiving opinions of teachers, an outdoor space design was made, and by the end of a 2 month work, 12 centers (art, music, playing house, writing, balance, eye-hand coordination, vegetable, fruit, book, performance, sensory) were created in the garden of research and application kindergarten of a university. After 6 teachers used the design in the 2 month education period, their opinions are received. Teachers expressed the efficiency of center designs in the garden in terms of supporting children’s development and implementing educational programs. Model implementation was described in detail and was discussed with the related body of literature. A design was made regarding how center implementation which will support children development in the best way can be formed using low-cost waste and natural material. The model is thought to raise awareness about putting outdoor space in good use.</p>

Edgar, Grace. "Queers of Steel: Camp in John Williams's Superman (1978) and Jerry Goldsmith's Supergirl (1984)". Journal of the Society for American Music 15, n. 3 (agosto 2021): 321–44. http://dx.doi.org/10.1017/s1752196321000201.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
AbstractWhen Richard Donner's blockbuster Superman arrived in theaters in 1978, critics praised the filmmakers for avoiding camp in their adaptation of the comic book, comparing the film positively to the Batman television series (1966–68) of the previous decade. Several sequels later, critics attributed the series’ diminishing financial returns to its growing investment in camp, an investment that peaked in Jeannot Szwarc's Supergirl spinoff (1984), a critical and commercial misfire. Drawing on the work of camp theorists Susan Sontag, Moe Meyer, and Andrew Ross, I argue that critics have misrepresented the place of camp within the franchise, a misunderstanding stemming from their neglect of the film scores. There are two different yet overlapping forms of camp operating within these films. In their reviews, critics expressed disdain for pop camp, a highly legible form of camp, characterized by overblown performances, that the Batman show popularized in the 1960s. My analyses of Superman and Supergirl center on a subtler camp aesthetic present from the very start that critics celebrated: a playful mismatching of gender signifiers and an undercutting of heteronormative romantic relationships that I refer to as queer camp. I offer queer readings of John Williams's and Jerry Goldsmith's leitmotivic scores for Superman and Supergirl—supposedly the least campy and the campiest films in the franchise—to bring into focus the overlooked political work the series accomplishes. In a bold reclamation of the comic books’ suppressed queer legacy, the films’ queer camp aesthetic subverts the heteronormativity of the protagonists to construct Superman and Supergirl as queers of steel.

Kim, Yulhee. "A Study on the Relationship between Kim Dongmin's Family and the Situation before and after the Opening of the National Gugak Center during the Korean War". National Gugak Center 48 (31 ottobre 2023): 9–36. http://dx.doi.org/10.29028/jngc.2023.48.009.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
This study examines the history of the National Gugak Center, which opened in Busan, the temporary capital during the Korean War. Due to a lack of historical records in this period, it analyzes the oral records about Kim Dongmin, who provided a temporary office for Guwanggung aakbu (舊王宮雅樂部) for about three months right after evacuation, to establish the influence of the Kim Dongmin's family that affected the birth of the National Gugak Center. The oral materials of Kim Dongmin and Son Jaesook, which serve as the basic material for this study, were recorded by the folk music scholar Lee Bohyeong in 1991. They show in detail the relationship between Kim Dongmin and the early days of the National Gugak Center. Based on them, this study summarizes the circumstance at that time by reviewing Kim Cheonheung's book, the National Gugak Center's 50th and 70th anniversary collections, and newspaper articles. Then, an oral interview was conducted with Kim Dongmin's eldest daughter, Kim Ongyeong, to cross-verify the facts. The results of this study are as follows. First, the National Gugak Center was provided with a temporary office at Kim Dongmin's house at 6 Toseong-dong 3ga, Seo-gu, Busan, from the end of December 1950 until its official opening in April 1951. Second, after the opening of the National Gugak Center, the first dance class for beginners was held by Kim Dongmin's Folk Dance Research Institute. Third, in 1952, when Busan's first dance play, Chunhyangjeon, was performed on 'the 1st Folk Dance Presentation', the musicians of the National Gugak Center, including Sung Kyungrin and Kim Chunheung, were in charge of the commentary and accompaniment. This fact played an important role in the birth of the National Gugak Center, and can be seen to be due to the passion and support of Kim Dongmin, a lover of Korean traditional music and instigator of the Korean traditional music enlightenment movement. In summary, Kim Dongmin greatly influenced the development of the National Gugak Center in Busan by providing a place for dance lessons and holding collaborative performances. This study is meaningful in that it newly established the situation before and after the opening of the National Gugak Center, which has not been well known so far, and shed new light on its historical significance.

FEDERICO, LUCA. "L'apprendistato letterario di Raffaele La Capria". Doctoral thesis, Università degli studi di Genova, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/11567/1005664.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractReusing buildings must be ‘convenient’ for the environment and for people, therefore it must re-establish a balance between places and communities which, interacting, determine a continuous transformation of cities. The reuse of buildings is a sustainable development process that implies phases of adaptation and qualitative growth to create safe, healthy, useful, attractive and beautiful places. The objective of the guidelines for the music district of Pescara (research for the conservatory) is to establish activities linked to music, culture and socialization, for the expansion of the ‘Luisa D'Annunzio’ Conservatory (through the reuse of the former Muzii middle school owned by the municipality) and provides the city with inclusive and beautiful places for all. The needs of different users (students of the conservatory and citizens) and those expressed by the client (music teachers and musicians) are considered to ensure the sustainability of the initiative through the integration of activities fit for restoring economic and social ‘gain’, according to an ecological approach. In providing the addresses for the required spaces, it was important to hypothesize additional functions and spaces to reborn the city with inclusion and beauty. The reuse of the former middle school was deemed ‘convenient’ (just as music is effective in restoring social inclusion and cultural development) thanks to the resilience capacities found. The proximity between the former school and the conservatory does not require substantial connection works and the proximity to the urban parks, the sea and the most ‘lively’ area of the urban center demonstrates an aptitude of the place for social reception thanks also to pedestrian and cycle paths. The spaces of the former classrooms are suitable for music teaching and recording studios as other existing spaces are for a music hub and other functions for the conservatory and the city, with a view to sustainable urban development.

Abstract (sommario):
The nuns gave the girls entering the convent a demanding education, which lasted several years and included scholarly Latin, theology, and music for the choir services; knowledge of economic and organizational matters pertaining to convent administration; handicrafts and the production and decoration of books. The chapter starts with the example from the diary of the Braunschweig nun of an educational reform gone wrong, then discusses the ideal curriculum and concludes with the Heiningen Philosophy Tapestry as idealized example of a learned community centred around the figure of Lady Philosophy.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractThe 2-year StART Entrepreneurship Project (StART) aims to support creative industries students to develop skills and utilise real-world experience to build successful and sustainable careers. UK-based and funded by the Office for Students and Research England, StART is a collaboration between the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (RCSSD) and University of the Arts London (UAL). The project involves the development of new in-curricular and extracurricular content and events, tailored specifically for students studying for higher education degrees in these and other specialist creative arts institutions. This chapter explores one specific way of delivering entrepreneurship education to students, an intense period of contact time often referred to as a ‘boot camp’. The chapter outlines the planning stage of this event, including how existing research on entrepreneurial learning might be mapped onto the boot camp format and how aspects of the QAA (Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Education: Guidance for UK education providers, Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, Gloucester, 2018) guidance was to be integrated. The chapter will also detail how existing frameworks such as EntreComp (McCallum et al., Joint Research Centre Entrepreneurship and the creative economy (3):400–414, 2018) and the CLEAR IDEAS model (Birdi, European Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology 30(3):400–414, 2021) informed design and delivery and how input from external industry partners and students themselves (both event participants and members of the StART Student Advisory Board) was a key part of the planning.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract This chapter explores the lauda books published in Rome, the primary publishing center of this popular form of vernacular devotional music during the post-Tridentine era. It considers a dozen closely related lauda editions intimately connected with Filippo Neri’s Congregation of the Oratory. Issued by five different presses over a span of over forty years, these spiritual song publications offer a fascinating glimpse into the printing practices of three generations of Roman bookmen. The various book forms, layouts, and formats of these editions not only reflect the structure and style of this functional music, but also their projected use for different audiences by Neri and his followers.

Abstract (sommario):
Teacher, conductor, Byzantine musicologist, Gheorghe C. Ionescu (1920- 1999) devoted the last years of his life to researching the history of Romanian Byzantine music and published in specialized journals several comprehensive papers that address various topics and bring back in focus personalities of the past. Due to his solid musical and theological training, guided by prestigious teachers from the interwar period, the distinguished musician had a rich artistic and cultural contribution to the second half of the previous century. The change of the political regime in Romania allowed him to return to the pursuits of his adolescence and youth and to continue his research of Orthodox church music in Romania. Along with his papers at various scientific events and the published studies, his tireless work materialized, soon after 1989, in the writing of a lexicon dedicated exclusively to those who had researched Romanian Byzantine music, in 1997. It was followed by a chronological dictionary, the foreword of which was written by the academician Virgil Cândea, who appreciated the importance of the book and the quality of Teacher Ionescu’s work. Entitled Muzica bizantină în România [Byzantine Music in Romania], the book appeared posthumously, through the care of his family, in 2003. Although the centenary of his birth passed almost unnoticed, both productions are valuable working tools for all those who will continue to value Orthodox church music in our country. One more reason to evoke this personality who put a lot of passion in illustrating the richness and beauty of music sung in Romanian churches, two decades after the book was printed.

Abstract (sommario):
Successful opera art cannot be separated from literary elements, but also from the support of music. Opera scripts make up plots with words. Compared with emotional resonance directly from the senses, music can plasticize the abstract literary image from the perspective of sensibility. An excellent opera work can effectively promote the development of the drama plot through music design, and deepen the conflict of drama with the "ingenious leverage" of music. This article intends to analyze the music design of the famous opera, Mefistofele, and try to explore the fusion effect of music and drama, and its role in promoting the plot. After its birth at the end of the 16th century and the beginning of the 17th century, western opera art quickly received widespread attention and affection. The reason for its success is mainly due to its fusion of the essence of classical music and drama literature. Because of this, there have always been debates about the importance of music and drama in the long history of opera art development. In the book Opera as Drama, Joseph Kerman, a well-known contemporary musicologist, firmly believes that "opera is first and foremost a drama to show conflicts, emotions and thoughts among people through actions and events. In this process, music assumes the most important performance responsibilities."[1] Objectively speaking, these two elements with very different external forms and internal structures play an indispensable role in opera art. A classic opera is inseparable from the organic integration of music and drama, otherwise it will be difficult to meet the aesthetic experience expected by the audience. On the stage, it is necessary to present wonderful audio-visual enjoyment, and at the same time to pursue thematic expressions with deep thoughts, but the expression of emotions in music creation must be reflected through its independent specific language rather than separated from its own consciousness. Only through the superb expression of music can conflicts, thoughts and emotions be fully reflected, or it may be reduced to empty preaching. Joseph Kerman once pointed out that "the true meaning of opera is to carry drama with music". He believes that opera expresses thoughts and emotions through many factors such as scenes, actions, characters, plots and so on. However, the carrier of these elements lies in music. Only under the guidance and support of music can the characters, thoughts and emotions of the drama be truly portrayed. Indeed, opera scripts fictional plots with words, and music presents abstract literary image specifically and recreationally, allowing more potentially complex emotions that are difficult to express in words to be perceived by the audience in the flow of notes, thereby resonate with people.[2] Mefistofele, which this article intends to explore, is such an opera that is extremely exemplary in the organic integration of music and drama.

Dimitrakopoulou, Georgia. "NOVELLA GRECA. ?. SERAOS 19TH CENTURY GREECE. ITS REALITIES AND ITS ANTITHESES". In 9th SWS International Scientific Conferences on ART and HUMANITIES - ISCAH 2022. SGEM WORLD SCIENCE, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.35603/sws.iscah.2022/s10.17.

Abstract (sommario):
In the short story Novella Greca, in her book: Fior di Passione, 1888, the author M. Serao narrates the true story of Calliope Stavro, the heroine (Calliopi Stavrou in Greek), in Leucade - Santa Maura (Lefkada - Agia Mavra in Greek), an island of the Ionian Sea, in 19th century Greece. At that time, the country was just freed from the Turkish occupation, trying to recover from more than 400 years of slavery and subjugation to the Ottoman Empire. Calliope Stavro represents the woman of her time, imprisoned in the small society of her island, suffocated, asphyxiated, disillusioned and unfulfilled. Thus, she decides to commit suicide not having a way out in her island, which although it is a naturally beautiful place due to its greenery, it is a barren rock thrown into the Ionian Sea without any promising future for its inhabitants. Serao realistically exposes the true story of the heroines female identity, whose death signifies her suffocation within the patriarchal society of her time. The writer presents the outlets of human existence, the small society of the island, the negative influence of the heroines microcosm, which mostly depends on the raisin trade, its production and export, with which almost all the males of the island are preoccupied, since it provided a profitable income in that time. Faced with the crushing reality of her life, the non-existence of love, no romance, male dominance, and indifference, even misogynism, she chooses death, she surrenders to her doomed destiny and the futility of existence, because she is not allowed to live a free life according to her will. Her fatal fall from Lefkatas cape, where in ancient times there was a temple of god Apollo, god of music, light, and patron of the arts and divination, signifies the death of the gods of Olympus. Their place has been taken by a harsh reality, the revelation of the demands of the human soul, its desires, and its dead ends. Greece will need and still needs a long way to go to find the place it deserves in history, free from patriarchal structures, prejudices, and the impasses that they entail. The story of Calliope Stavro proves in practice the predicament of the female under the patriarchal standards of her era and the unsatisfied desires of the human psyche, which are sacrificed for the sake of survival, most times with unpredictable, unpleasant and unhappy results.
