Abstract (sommario):
ABSTRACT: Museums are undergoing changes, new roles are created for, and new challenges are posed to those institutions. After years of criticism levelled by society and academia at museums for the closed manner in which they ran and interpreted collections, a transformation is now underway. The decolonization of ethnographic museums has made major advances, especially because this type of museum is currently being indigenized. Museal communication plays a key role both in decolonization and indigenization, because it fosters dialogue between museum professionals and indigenous people. The article describes situations where museums, which are undergoing a transition between different models, are analyzed by Communication, considering the move from the means to mediation, in other words, from museums to culture, specifically the cultures of the Kaingang, Terenaand and Guarani Nhandeva indigenous people who live in the west of the state of São Paulo. The results of the museal communication initiative show two aspects to be explored by museums: The collection management policy and the renewed sacralization of museums. Keywords: Indigenous people in the west of the state of São Paulo; Museum policies; Decolonizing Museums.

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
Marketing communication is a concise part of modern museum management. Museums operate in a competitive environment; therefore, it is important to pay sustained attention to every component of a given museum’s marketing communication. Changes, international trends, and visitor preferences have an influence on marketing communication. Museum management must devote expert deliberation towards determining which components of their marketing communication are significant for museum visitors. Moreover, the effectiveness of the use of expenses plays an important role in museum management; it is also essential to combine effectively the individual components of marketing communication. The present research aims to find a correlation between the components of museum marketing communication, which is not being addressed in detail in the contemporary research. The aim of the research is therefore to determine the dependence amongst elements of the marketing communication of museums on questioning the visitors. The aim was achieved by implementing the modern audit approach and empirical research into marketing communication: the Paper Aided Personal Interview (PAPI) method with a Likert scale, a reliability check with Cronbach’s alpha, and dependency determination with Pearson’s correlation. All results were investigated through the use of a questionnaire on the international EU 27 sample of museum visitors. These conclusions allow museum management to build their marketing communication on the principles of Economy, Efficiency, and Effectiveness (the 3E principles).

Abstract (sommario):
Apart from being a tourist attraction, museums also have a function as a place for us as a society to learn and get to know about history. So that the museum has an important role in society. Lack of museum management has made public interest in the museum lessened. People generally visit museums with the aim of being curious and wanting to get benefits. However, in reality the management of this museum cannot meet the needs of the community, and makes the museum unable to carry out its role as a public and social facility in providing services to the community. The purpose of this writing is to determine the performance of museum management, to determine the weaknesses of the museum, and to make a management strategy proposal for the Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics to increase public interest. The author examines the existing literature in relation to management, promotion, and museums. The data used consisted of primary data (the existing condition of the museum, interviews, and questionnaires) and secondary data consisting of MSRK documentation, comparative museum documentation, and others. By using five analysis tools and five analysis methods. To find out how the management strategy can be applied, the writer uses analysis (location, physical condition of the museum, management performance, best practices, and perceptions and preferences). The results of the author's research are in the form of strategic proposals for the management and promotion of the Fine Arts and Ceramics Museum. Abstract (sommario):
Museums and Heritage Management are two fields that focus on the governing institution's sustainable administration, preservation, research, and communication of heritage. Museums, however, have the tendency to turn to the level of discussion on acclimatized institutions. Heritage management encompasses the “white cube” museum institution, but incorporates all levels of institutions that conduct the functions of administration, preservation, research, and communication of heritage. Ecomuseums are one kind of institution that is a non-traditional type of museum institution. This kind of museum is also more inclusive in community involvement. In order to “think outside the museum box,” museum discussions should be more comprehensive of different kinds of heritage institutions that perform those functions. This paper examines a different kind of heritage institution as a case study laboratory ecomuseum, the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the current role of competition as one of the neglected aspects of museum marketing management. It also aims to discover whether museum professionals consider museums to be market immune and to find out what they think about the role of competition in creating and managing their existing and new services. Design/methodology/approach The theoretical part of the paper is based on a review of the literature from the multidisciplinary field of arts and museum marketing management. The exploratory qualitative research included 17 museum professionals and was carried out in 17 museums in one EU emerging market country. Findings Museum professionals are not aware of the competition, or they tend to ignore its existence. They consider the preservation of objects (exhibits) to be equally or even more important than providing services. However, additional services become important. Although some museum professionals try to engage visitors in the active creation of museum experience, most are still conservative in such terms. Research limitations The primary research limitations are related to intentional, convenience sample and the perspective of one employee (marketing manager or museums’ director). Originality/value Research findings provide valuable insights for both marketing academics and professionals engaged in the museum marketing management field. The contribution of the paper is also contextual as it helps to bridge the gap existing in museum marketing management research in the context of the emerging markets.

Abstract (sommario):
This thesis examines management and organization theories and their relevance to the Museum and gallery context. In Part One management theories are examined to ascertain the development of management thinking and to establish the principles under which museums and galleries operate. This theme is developed to extend the concept of management expertise in museums and galleries to enable due consideration to be given to applications of management theory which are seen to be under-utilized yet appropriate to the changing environment in which museums and galleries currently operate. Thought is given to the attitudes and antecedents of the museum profession and their seeming reluctance to develop new management skills. The complexities of subject-specialists occupying key management positions within museums and galleries is discussed and the move to a more consultative approach to management is recommended. Part Two explores Organization Theory, its historical and contemporary view and its relevance to the museum and gallery context. An analysis of organizational structure questions the understanding by museum managers of the importance of appropriate structures to the successful and effective control of' museums and galleries. Following on from this is a detailed look at structural patterns and how best to understand and design appropriate structures within the environment of change currently affecting museums. To give guidance to this line of thought Organization Culture, Conflict and Change is examined to point out the importance of a cognizant approach to these subjects by senior museum professionals in order to provide the most appropriate structure within institutions which are required to function with historic collections in a competitive environment that has seen fundamental changes, generally, over the past twenty 11 years.

Abstract (sommario):
The State Government of São Paulo has applied its efforts in the past twenty eight years in order to accomplish the currently so called municipalization of the Statewide Historic and Pedagogical Museums Network of São Paulo. This set of museums, recognized as the first and largest museums network of the country and mostly created by Vinício Stein Campos (pedagogical professional), was understood, throughout the years, as having an eminently municipal nature; for this reason, the Secretary of State for Culture, at its core, realized that these collections should be legitimately given back to their towns due to their characteristics and meanings concerning the local communities. The text Historic and Pedagogical Museums in the 21st century: municipalization process and new perspectives intends to research, register and analyze the development of the process of municipalization of the Historic and Pedagogical Museums of São Paulo, which is still in progress, and the possible changes it may bring to these institutions, concerning management, technical and conceptual issues. Starting from a general overview of the constitution of the Historic and Pedagogical Museums Network, developed during the decades of 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, were examined, at first, the motivation for the custody transference of the statewide collections, located in São Paulo countryside, to their host towns. As a result, it analyzes, through the realization of case studies, the impacts such process has been generating over these museological institutions, and also evaluates the possible perspectives it gives to them concerning management, both museological management and municipal culture device management.

Abstract (sommario):
This article deals with the process of implementing tools for the digital management of the ethnographic, audiovisual, and archival collections of the Museum of the Indian/FUNAI/Brazil. Focusing on a journey that began in 1996, the article discusses the various strategies used by this museum to offer adequate services to the Brazilian indigenous peoples, including them in the process of production, exhibition, description, and management of their heritage, and using this same heritage to enforce the protection of their fundamental rights inside the Brazilian state. The main argument defended is that the sustainability of documentation and management actions for ethnographic collections is more effective when digital management resources dialog with the social universe from which the cultural assets originated.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose –The purpose of this study is to identify the criteria for sustainable museums found in reference literature and specified in our research, and to suggest guidelines for museums to follow. Methodology –In our primary research, the criteria for a sustainable museum were interpreted along four pillars, for which in-depth expert interviews were conducted with Hungarian museum professionals. Semi-structured interviews were used to explore the viewpoints, expectations, and perceptions of museum staff. Findings – In terms of environmental sustainability, Hungarian contemporary museums place less emphasis on making the museum building itself more sustainable. However, it is worthwhile for institutions that have long-term plans to become more and more eco-friendly. The issue of economic sustainability is the most problematic for Hungarian museums, which can be greatly improved with an active support community that helps museums either through volunteer work or financially. From a social point of view, one of the most important tasks of museums is to ensure equal opportunities, to reach the widest possible range of people, which is facilitated if the museum can function as a community space that adequately involves museum visitors and if it continuously strengthens its role in education. In terms of cultural sustainability, the responsibilities of museums are collection management, maintaining quality, and artistic vitality. Contribution – We conceptualize and provide a framework for sustainable museums. Through our research, we have contributed to broadening the theoretical background of sustainable museums from the perspective of contemporary art museums.

Abstract (sommario):
Indonesia marked a new era, known as the Reformation Era, in 1998 after the downfall of Suharto, the main face of the regime called the New Order (Orde Baru) and ran the government from 1966 to 1998. This long-run government creates certain structures in many sectors, including the museum sector in Indonesia. Suharto leads the government in a totalitarian manner, his power control over many layers, including the use of museums as regime propaganda tools. The propaganda in the museums such as a standardized storyline, the use of historical versions that are approved by the government, and the representation of violence through the military tale with the nation’s great enemy is made for the majority of museums from the west to east Indonesia at that time. Thus, after almost two-decade after the downfall of the New Order regime how Indonesian museum transform into this new era? In the new democratic era, museum management is brought back to the regional government. The museums are encouraged to writing the local history and deconstruct the storyline from the previous regime. Not only just stop there, but there are alsomany new museums open to the public with new concepts or storylines to revive the audience. Even, the new museum was also erected by the late president’s family to rewrite the narration of the hero story of Suharto in Yogyakarta. This article aims to look up the change in the Indonesian museum post-New Order regime. How they adjust curatorial narration to present the storyline, is there any change to re-write the new narrative, or they actually still represent the New-Order idea along with the violence symbolic that never will deconstruct.

Abstract (sommario):
It is readily apparent to everyone that there are multiple and serious concerns that face Muslim societies today. Terrorism, civil strife, poverty, illiteracy, factionalism, gender injustices and poor healthcare are just a few of the challenges to governance across the Muslim world. These are core issues for governance and public administration in any form of government. However, before we can engage with good governance within the context of Islam, we need to be clear what mean by good governance itself. A simple definition of good governance is that of an institutionalised competency of administration and institution leading to efficient resource allocation and management[1]. Another way of looking at it is as a system which is defined by the existence of efficient and accountable institutions[2]. Civil society now tends to look at good governance by way of impact measurement and how a certain set of processes result in a set of measurable and desirable outcomes.

Abstract (sommario):
Bendigo, where the traditional owners are the Dja Dja Wurrung people, has capitalised on its European historical roots. Its striking architecture owes much to its Gold Rush past which has also given it a diverse cultural heritage. The creative industries, while not well recognised as such, contribute well to the local economy. The many festivals, museums and library exhibitions attract visitors from the metropolitan centre of Victoria especially. The Bendigo Creative Industries Hub was a local council initiative while the Ulumbarra Theatre is located within the City’s 1860’s Sandhurst Gaol. Many festivals keep the city culturally active and are supported by organisations such as Bendigo Bank. The Bendigo Writers Festival, the Bendigo Queer Film Festival, The Bendigo Invention & Innovation Festival, Groovin the Moo and the Bendigo Blues and Roots Music Festival are well established within the community. A regional accelerator and Tech School at La Trobe University are touted as models for other regional Victorian cities. The city has a range of high quality design agencies, while the software and digital content sector is growing with embeddeds working in agriculture and information management systems. Employment in Film, TV and Radio and Visual Arts has remained steady in Bendigo for a decade while the Music and Performing Arts sector grew quite well over the same period.
