Abstract (sommario):
Two methods, based on nonlinear dynamics, are described for broad- and narrow-band communication systems. The first approach employs hyperchaotic discrete time series carrier sequences generated with mixed linear–nonlinear coupled differential equations [Irving & Dewson, 1997]. In this first approach it is assumed that the solution of the coupled ordinary differential equations can be represented as a multichannel Volterra functional expansion. Identification, synchronization and the potential unmasking of hyperchaotic communications systems, are achieved by generating a tractable hierarchy of ascending order time series moment equations by operating on a suitably truncated Volterra functional expansion. The estimated moment hierarchy facilitates the calculation of the coefficients of the coupled differential equations that generate the multichannel carrier that is to be modulated by the message. Due to its ability to easily and accurately estimate the coefficients of the governing differential equations the method is applied to the multichannel carrier sequences of data generated by a set of hyperchaotic equations. The inherent problem of resynchronization in chaotic communication systems cannot be avoided in general because of the evolutionary, time dependent, nature of the time series carriers used. This time dependence problem that results in repeated resynchronization can be avoided by considering an alternative and innovative approach that employs time series carrier sequences generated by an input–output multichannel Volterra kernel expansion [Dewson & Irving, 1996]. In this second method, mixed order multichannel Volterra kernel functions are used to generate the carrier sequence that is then modulated by the message. The Volterra kernel function values used to generate the carrier can be identified with the moment hierarchy method [Dewson & Irving, 1996] enabling the message to be deconvolved from the transmitted signal. The modulated nonlinear multichannel signal is transmitted to the receiver. The effect of transmission is to distort and corrupt the signal. In this work it is assumed that the distortions to the transmitted signal remain small, with the case where they become significant being treated elsewhere. First, the case where the signal is received free from both noise and distortion, for example the decryption of an encrypted e-mail, is first considered. Then signal reception in the presence of additive noise is considered. Each of the two proposed methods has been investigated to determine their accuracy and robustness in the presence of additive noise.

Abstract (sommario):
Communication is a multichannel, multiunit process that works on different levels. It is sequential with specific information carriers on a cognitive accessible level, and dynamic for the regulation of relationships at the same time. One function of communication is the broadcasting of internal states that can be assessed by inferential communication.

Abstract (sommario):
Bit error rate (BER) minimization and SNR-gap maximization, two robustness optimization problems, are solved, under average power and bitrate constraints, according to the waterfilling policy. Under peak power constraint the solutions differ and this paper gives bit-loading solutions of both robustness optimization problems over independent parallel channels. The study is based on analytical approach, using generalized Lagrangian relaxation tool, and on greedy-type algorithm approach. Tight BER expressions are used for square and rectangular quadrature amplitude modulations. Integer bit solution of analytical continuous bitrates is performed with a new generalized secant method. The asymptotic convergence of both robustness optimizations is proved for both analytical and algorithmic approaches. We also prove that, in the conventional margin maximization problem, the equivalence between SNR-gap maximization and power minimization does not hold with peak-power limitation. Based on a defined dissimilarity measure, bit-loading solutions are compared over Rayleigh fading channel for multicarrier systems. Simulation results confirm the asymptotic convergence of both resource allocation policies. In nonasymptotic regime the resource allocation policies can be interchanged depending on the robustness measure and on the operating point of the communication system. The low computational effort leads to a good trade-off between performance and complexity.

Abstract (sommario):
Industrial wireless sensor network (IWSN) applications are required to provide precise measurement functions as feedback for controlling devices. Current industrial wireless communication protocols, such as ISA100.11a and wirelessHART, have difficulty, however, in guaranteeing latency for unpredictable on-demand communications. In this paper, a priority-based dynamic multichannel transmission scheme is proposed for IWSNs. In the proposed scheme, a root node controls the transmission timing of high-priority packets, while other nodes autonomously decide what channel to use and when to transmit packets to a neighbor. Simulation results show that real time control is possible where a response delay from transmission of a request to reception of a reply at a root node is within 1,140 ms at per-link communication success probability with a retry of higher than 93%.

Abstract (sommario):
We study the collision-induced timing jitter of optical solitons in dispersion managed wavelength-division multiplexed communication systems. The work presented here is an extension of previous analyzes of two-pulse interactions to the multiple channel case. The numerical study is based on a system of ordinary differential equations obtained using a variational approach that models the evolution of the main parameters of the propagating pulses. We explain the mechanism associated with inter-channel interactions and study the evolution of multiplexed soliton trains and the resulting frequency shift induced jitter as the map strength is varied. The results obtained indicate a strong dependence of the frequency shifts on the position of the channel within the multiplex and the existence of patterns for the frequency shifts that depend on the parity of the number of channels.

Abstract (sommario):
During last several years, mobile communications using mmWave spectrum have been intensively researched for 5G wireless networks. Now the mmWave wireless technologies are evolved into direct device-to-device communications for a single or multihop communication via Giga-bit links. Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are one of the most attractive areas to apply the direct mmWave communications. In this paper, we propose a Giga-V2V (GiV2V) network, in which vehicles query and deliver high quality video and sensor data of smart and self-driving cars using mmWave communications instead of current dedicated short-range communications (DSRC). In the GiV2V networks, vehicles probably form a grid topology along lanes of a road, which leads to align mmWave beams of the vehicles and cause mutual interference among them. As channel diversity can resolve effectively the interference between mmWave beams, we propose several heuristic algorithms for channel assignment of each beam in the GiV2V networks. We investigate the proposed algorithms using simulation and compare performance with well-known metaheuristic algorithms for this NP-Hard problem.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper presents the possibilities of Free-space optical connection (FSO) in space communication in case of satellite-to-spacecraft or satellite-to-satellite link. It summerizes the advantages and disadvantages of optical transmissions in case of near-earth and deep space region. We present the most significant problems during FSO link application and introduce some techniques to eliminate the drawbacks. In this paper, we introduce the use of multi-channel FSO system, which is the most appropriate in order to maximize channel parameters with minimizing the transmission error. It compares available maximum channel parameters of near future space missions. Under special conditions in satellite-earth connection, the usage of the optical link may become very uncertain, because of the strong turbulent medium. We describe conditions under which the optical link can be applied in satellite communication and when it is necessary to effectively modify the optical connection, This article discusses the application of multichannel or more precise diversity systems, which we recommend for space communication.

Abstract (sommario):
In this paper, we derive a theoretical model for the higher order FWM power in WDM networks with NZDSF fibers for the first time. We have investigated the higher order FWM power theoretically and by numerical simulations. Dividing the fiber into finite number of elements and applying the boundary conditions, allow us derive an expression for second order power penalty. At the end of each element we derive the first order FWM power for all wavelengths and use these values to calculate the second order FWM power in the next element. Consequently, for each channel we can compute the total second order FWM power penalty at the end of the fiber.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper reviews data on speech perception via implanted electrodes and via tactile aids. The two approaches are compared in terms of amount and types of aid provided to communication. Related issues discussed are the performance levels with multi-versus single-channel implants, promontory electrical stimulators versus implants, use of minimal residual hearing, implants for children, and the possible design of complementary systems combining auditory implant and tactile information. The diversity of the test methods and subjects used in implant versus tactile research precludes definitive comparisons of speech perception performance. However, it appears from the available data that, at present and for the foreseeable future, neither approach can provide more than a modest aid to lipreading. Speech reception test results from multichannel-implanted subjects are better, on the average, than for single-channel subjects. However, the best single-channel results are comparable to the best multichannel in tests using simple sentences. There is great variation among subjects with the same implant, Tactile aid performance by highly practiced subjects seems comparable to that of the better implant subjects.

Millimeter-wave wireless networks of the new fifth generation (5G) have become a primary focus in the development of the information and telecommunication industries. It is expected that 5G wireless networks will increase the data rates and reduce network latencies by an order of magnitude, which will create new telecommunication services for all sectors of the economy. New electronic components such as 28 GHz (27.5 to 28.35 GHz) single-chip transmit radio frequency (RF) front-end monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs) will be required for the performance and power consumption of millimeter-wave (mm-wave) 5G communication systems. This component includes a 6-bit digital phase shifter, a driver amplifier and a power amplifier. The output power P3dB and power-added efficiency (PAE) are 29 dBm and 19.2% at 28 GHz. Abstract (sommario):
This article proposes a comparative analysis of the newspaper apps developed for tablets and smartphones within different media systems. It studies the multimediality, interactivity and commercialization models adopted by newspaper publishers and journalists for these apps. The theoretical framework embraces two main topics: the media system models, starting from Hallin and Mancini’s proposal, and the characteristics of the media systems, particularly in the countries selected for this sample, focusing on the digital and mobile media scenario. In order to collect comparable data from a common source, we have selected indicators from Reuters Institute Digital News Report 2016. The total number of app versions analysed came to 148 (81 for smartphones and 67 for tablets) from 20 newspapers in 10 different countries. One conclusion is that newspapers’ commitment to the tablet and smartphone, in general, tends to be conservative and far from independent of pre-existing print and web-based media. This article shows how media systems have become more complex in the digital scenario, in which apps are an important, but not exclusive, aspect. So, it is necessary to take into account trends in news globalization and ‘convergent journalism’. Finally, this research confirms that crossplatform management and multichannel strategies are still weak, which has consequences for the innovation of app editions.

Abstract (sommario):
In animal communication, signals are frequently emitted using different channels (e.g. frequencies in a vocalization) and different modalities (e.g. gestures can accompany vocalizations). We explore two explanations that have been provided for multimodality: (i) selection for high information transfer through dedicated channels and (ii) increasing fault tolerance or robustness through multichannel signals. Robustness relates to an accurate decoding of a signal when parts of a signal are occluded. We show analytically in simple feed-forward neural networks that while a multichannel signal can solve the robustness problem, a multimodal signal does so more effectively because it can maximize the contribution made by each channel while minimizing the effects of exclusion. Multimodality refers to sets of channels where within each set information is highly correlated. We show that the robustness property ensures correlations among channels producing complex, associative networks as a by-product. We refer to this as the principle of robust overdesign . We discuss the biological implications of this for the evolution of combinatorial signalling systems; in particular, how robustness promotes enough redundancy to allow for a subsequent specialization of redundant components into novel signals.

Abstract (sommario):
Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) is becoming an emerging paradigm, due to its simple and cost effective deployment, and increased growth in popularity for the next generation wireless Internet. Unlike the single channel, it is challenging to provision a robust multicasting by means of multi-channel and multi-interface WMNs. Therefore, in order to tackle the multicast issues, a high-quality path selection and channel assignment are essential. The proposed Quality of Service – On Demand Multichannel Multicast Routing Protocol (QoS- ODMMRP) includes merged path selection and top-down channel tuning mechanism to support multi-channel and multi-interface WMNs. Thus, the proposed work reduces the number of transmissions and increases the communication throughput efficiently.

Thus, due to these mentioned factors, there now exists a tremendous demand for Industrial health IoT services post COVID 19 outbreaks. These services involve a patient getting treatment within the comfort of their own home environment. To do this, an existing healthcare center can very well be transformed into an Industrial health IoT service center. This can be achieved with the help of various emerging, modern technologies such as IoT, which stands for 'Internet of Things'. This model is based upon the overall health of a patient and involves realizing symptoms with the help of mobile devices and multichannel technology. The main idea behind this project is to introduce a set of systems to support a patient and his/her family. Thus, we can increase the independence of a patient, and can provide a lot of support to families of critically-ill patients. These systems are skilled enough to understand various changes in bodily functions and can easily relate them to various diseases. They can also prescribe medications accordingly and automatically.

Abstract (sommario):
Efficient electronic coupling is the key to constructing optoelectronic functional π systems. Generally, the delocalization of π electrons must comply with the framework constructed by covalent bonds (typically σ bonds), representing classic through-bond conjugation. However, through-space conjugation offers an alternative that achieves spatial electron communication with closely stacked π systems instead of covalent bonds thus enabling multidimensional energy and charge transport. Because of the ever-accelerating advances of through-space conjugation studies, researchers are inspired greatly by the beauty of through-space conjugated systems and their potential in high-tech applications. In this mini review, we introduce some representative and newly developed π systems having the through-space conjugation feature. In addition to discussing the profound impacts of through-space conjugation on the luminescence properties and charge transport, we will review some impressive findings of distinctive molecules with attractive characteristics, such as aggregation-induced emission, thermally activated delayed fluorescence, bipolar charge transport, and multichannel. These achievements may bring about new breakthroughs of theory, materials, and devices in the fields of organic electronics and molecular electronics.

Abstract (sommario):
In this paper, we exactly analyze the performance of the slotted ALOHA access scheme with capture in a multichannel packet radio communication environment for the IFT (immediate-first-transmission) protocol and the DFT (delayed-first-transmission) protocol. We derive four moment generating functions for the following performance measures: (1) the number of packet deparures in each group of capture level in any slot, (2) the interval time between wo consecutive slot ends with the same number of departures, (3) the interval time between two consecutive slot ends with at least one departure and the number of departures in each group in that slot, and (4) the packet delay for each group. We calculate the averages and higher moments of these performance measures by differentiating the moment generating functions and numerically compare the systems with and without ower capture. The system consists of a finite population of Nstations, both fixed and mobile, that are divided into L different capture groups and access a set of parallel M channels to transmit their packets. Capture effect means that a packet transmitted by a station with a highest capture level can be received accurately, even when other packets in lower capture levels are simultaneously transmitted on the same channel and in the same slot. Numerical comparison to a multichannel system without capture is made. Capture effects on channel utilization, mean packet delay, and coefficients of variation of packet delay and interdeparture time are examined.

Abstract (sommario):
Toward making the conventional carrier sense multiple access (CSMA) protocol transmit and control mobile ad hoc network systems, as well as reducing energy consumption, an adaptive multichannel multipriority two-dimensional probability detection and 1-stick joint control strategy carrier sense multiple access with variable collision duration and three-way handshake mechanisms (iCSMA for short) is proposed. Based on the conventional two-slot model of the CSMA protocol, iCSMA introduces a concept of collision duration (b), which divides the system’s timeslot into the duration of successful packet transmission (1 + a), the duration of collision (b + a), and the duration of the idle state (a) of the system. By employing iCSMA, the loss of the system could be reduced with a fine-tuned collision duration (b), which leads to improved performance compared to the conventional 1P-persistent CSMA protocol. Furthermore, a three-way handshake mechanism is introduced for monitoring the entire network system at a minimal cost of throughput. Toward a higher channel utilization rate, a multichannel and multipriority function is employed in the implementation of multiservice communication for the system. Besides, with an adaptive mechanism, the transmission probabilities p 1 and p 2 are reasonably set so that the system will not produce a complete collision under the condition of high load, and the throughput can also be stabilized. Based on the battery model, the lifetime of the system nodes (T) is extended. Both theoretical analysis and experimental results confirm the accuracy of the theoretical derivation.

Abstract (sommario):
The radiofrequency microstrip diplexers are widely demanded nowadays by modern wireless communication systems. Hence, several types of previously reported microstrip diplexers are reviewed and investigated in this work. Microstrip diplexers are three ports devices used for separating desired signals and delivering them through two (or more) different channels. The diplexers are investigated in three categories of dual-channel bandpass-bandpass diplexers, multichannel diplexers, and lowpassbandpass diplexers. The investigated multi-channel diplexers include a number of four-channel, six-channel, and eight-channel diplexers. Due to the hard design process, the number of reported diplexers with more than four channels is limited. The layout structures and theory design methods of the previously reported diplexers are studied. Moreover, their size and performance are compared while some explanations about their advantages and disadvantages are presented. This comparison includes insertion loss, return loss, fractional bandwidths, isolation, selectivity, and gaps between channels.

Abstract (sommario):
Passive Intermodulation (PIM) distortion is a major problem in wireless communications which limits cell coverage and data rates. Passive nonlinearities result in weak intermodulation (IMD) products that are very difficult to diagnose, troubleshoot and model. To predict PIM, behavioral models are used where spectral components of PIM are estimated from the power spectral density at the output of the model. The primary goal of this paper is to study the effect of window functions on the capability of the power spectral density computed from the periodogram of signal realizations to predict low power PIM components in a wideband multichannel communication system. Different window functions are analyzed and it is shown that windows with high side-lobe level fail to predict PIM components which are close to the main channels due to their high spectral leakage; while window functions with low roll-off rate of the side lobes fail to predict low power higher order PIM components especially when the frequency separation between the main carriers is high. These results are supported by simulations of the power spectral density computed using signal realizations of an LTE carrier aggregated system.

Abstract (sommario):
We describe the design and performance of an electromechanical system for conducting multineuron recording experiments in alert non-human primates. The system is based on a simple design, consisting of a microdrive, control electronics, software, and a unique type of recording chamber. The microdrive consists of an aluminum frame, a set of eight linear actuators driven by computer-controlled miniature stepping motors, and two printed circuit boards (PCBs) that provide connectivity to the electrodes and the control electronics. The control circuitry is structured around an Atmel RISC-based microcontroller, which sends commands to as many as eight motor control cards, each capable of controlling eight motors. The microcontroller is programmed in C and uses serial communication to interface with a host computer. The graphical user interface for sending commands is written in C and runs on a conventional personal computer. The recording chamber is low in profile, mounts within a circular craniotomy, and incorporates a removable internal sleeve. A replaceable Sylastic membrane can be stretched across the bottom opening of the sleeve to provide a watertight seal between the cranial cavity and the external environment. This greatly reduces the susceptibility to infection, nearly eliminates the need for routine cleaning, and permits repeated introduction of electrodes into the brain at the same sites while maintaining the watertight seal. The system is reliable, easy to use, and has several advantages over other commercially available systems with similar capabilities.

Abstract (sommario):
Near-infrared spectroscopy is a sensitive, noninvasive method for chemical analyses, and its integration with imaging technologies represents a potent tool for the study of a wide range of materials. In this communication the use of an indium antimonide (InSb) multichannel imaging detector for near-infrared absorption spectroscopic microscopy is described. In particular, a 128 × 128 pixel InSb staring array camera has been combined with a refractive optical microscope and an acousto-optic tunable filter (AOTF) to display chemically discriminative, spatially resolved, vibrational spectroscopic images of biological and polymeric systems. AOTFs are computer-controlled bandpass filters that provide high speed, random wavelength access, wide spectral coverage, and high spectral resolution. Although AOTFs inherently have a wide range of spectroscopic applications, we apply this technology to NIR absorption microscopy between 1 and 2.5 μm. The spectral interval is well matched to the optical characteristics of both the NIR refractive microscope and the AOTF, thereby providing near-diffraction-limited performance with a practical spatial resolution of 1 to 2 μm. Design principles of this novel instrumentation and representative applications of the technique are presented for various model systems.
