Abstract (sommario):
Architecture influences people and the environment from the past, present and the future. Nevertheless architecture and design quality is viewed as subjective, and benchmarks to achieve consensus are necessary for design or evaluation of buildings. This paper establishes architectural design criteria for design quality of multi-storey housing buildings. A set of the criteria was established with literature review, an operational definition and survey on qualified persons or architects in the professional practice of architecture. The literature reviews identified seven concepts for architecture and design quality, and the operational definition translated this architectural design quality to measurable and observable cases and variables. The survey collected these variable data from a purposive sample of 95 respondents, and these data were examined by statistical analysis. The results of the descriptive statistics, inferential t-tests (p ≤ 0.05) and positive hypothesis testing verified that respondents in general agreed to these seven design concepts as architectural design criteria for design quality. These results established the first ever set of seven architectural design criteria which were ranked in descending order of significance as function, socio-culture, site context, cost, aesthetic of art, sustainability, and Feng Shui. These architectural design criteria can be applied to the design or evaluation of multi-storey housing buildings for the good of people and the environment.

Abstract (sommario):
Commercial space features essential characteristics of attracting clients and creating profits; thus, the exterior and interior designs of conventional commercial space were often made to look grandiose and overdecorated. Over time, according to commercial attributes, operator preferences, and style of the designer, commercial spaces have constantly undergone renovation into varied styles. However, the physical renovation processhas caused multiple and composite types of environmental pollution, such as waste and noise pollution caused by breaking of walls or partitions, anddecorative paint pollution, as well as the use of high-energy-consuming lighting equipment, air-conditioning systems, and decorative materials. Global pollution has caused climate change, endangering living organismsand human life. Furthermore, no effective method exists to control the problem of high greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, this study used energy-saving design concerns of a garden-type commercial space to propose an energy-saving evaluation model. The study combined three methodologies, the Delphi method, analytic hierarchy process, and fuzzy logic theory, to construct a multi-criteria decision support system for designing green commercial spaces, and used the green spatial design of a garden café as an example to illustrate the high objectivity and adaptability of the proposed model in practical application. The study also used an international award-winning case to validate that the proposed model had practical value as a reference to support key design decisions.

Abstract (sommario):
In this article a procedure is introduced to improve transparency and reliability of results for the selection of material flow design alternatives including machine tools and other capital-intensive goods. In the design phase of material flow planning projects, key performance indicators (KPIs) for design alternatives including processing as well as intralogistics elements can be derived using simulation. Using the state of the art method in value stream design and simulation often volatile input data is taken into account only in the simulation itself, but not in the downstream comparison of alternative designs, which could lead to imprecise conclusions and therefore to wrong investment decisions. To overcome this issue and to consider variability in the whole simulation phase and a subsequent decision making process, a multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) with two fuzzy representations is proposed and discussed here with the aim of helping practitioners to get more competitive value streams. A further goal of the article is the comparison between both forms used for fuzzy representation. Using the design example of machine tool-intralogistics systems obtained results are discussed.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper presents the development of a global and integrated sizing approach under different performance indexes applied to fuel cell/battery hybrid power systems. The strong coupling between the hardware sizing process and the system supervision (energy management strategy EMS) makes it hard for the design to consider all the possibilities, and today’s methodologies are mostly experience-based approaches that are impervious to technological disruption. With a smart design approach, new technologies are easier to consider, and this approach facilitates the use of new technologies for transport applications with a decision help tool. An automotive application with a hybrid fuel cell (PEMFC)/battery (Li-Ion) is considered to develop this approach. The proposed approach is based on imbricated optimization loops and considers multiple criteria such as the fuel consumption, reliability, and volume of the architecture, in keeping with industry expectations to allow a good trade-off between different performance indexes and explore their design options. This constitutes a low computational time and a very effective support tool that allows limited overconsumption and lifetime reduction for designed architecture in extreme and non-optimal use. We obtain, thanks to this work, a pre-design tool that helps to realize the first conception choice.

Abstract (sommario):
The current stage of development of science and technology is characterized by a significant complication of the tasks. The development of the economy to produce a situation where the development, implementation and operation of complex technical and socio-technical systems have to be in conditions of fierce competition. This is necessary to reduce the time of development and implementation of new technologies, especially in high-load systems. Highly loaded systems are, by and large, the same websites, only with a very large audience, and as a consequence with a large load, which requires an optimized server part of the site. A qualitative characteristic for a highly loaded system is the bandwidth of this system, it describes the amount of work that must be able to perform the system per unit time. The development of highly loaded systems is time consuming and poorly formalized. Since the production of high-load systems is one of the most dynamically developing areas in the field of information technology, which is demonstrated by a significant annual increase in volumes. In the practical task of decision-making, there is often a situation where you cannot limit yourself to considering a single criterion for choosing a decision. An attempt at mathematical formalization of such problems has led to the creation of the Theory of Multicriteria Optimization, which is used in the development of methods, intended for support of decision makers, in the presence of several criteria. The steps for construction of algorithm of multicriteria optimization in designing of highly loaded systems, carries out search of solutions of a maximum in a multicriteria problem are resulted. The algorithm was based on the descent method in Simplex problems. Simplex method - an algorithm for solving the optimization problem of linear programming by searching the vertices of a convex polyhedron in multidimensional space. Multicriteria optimization is based on finding solutions in problems with a large number of options. Now the type of tasks is very resource-intensive and is calculated using computers. Keywords: high-load data systems, high-load computing system.

Abstract (sommario):
Energy production systems for isolated communities lacking national energy grids are, in many countries, associated with first energy access of rural or developing regions. Those communities require innovative design methods to select relevant solutions for sustainable developments in a context of continuously strengthening climate change conditions. The design of an innovative solution goes through multiple stages. After identifying opportunities, analyzing a context and identifying a problem, we are interested here in the process of imagining solutions and guiding reflections so that the resulting solutions are sustainable. Sustainability is analyzed from technical, economic, environmental and social angles. The two main visions for imagining solutions, the value proposition and the technical solution, are discussed. We are then developing a multi-criteria method of sustainable design to imagine the technical solution of an electricity production system in a context of first access to energy for isolated communities. This method serves as decision and discussion support between all stakeholders (community, decision makers, project managers) so that they collectively build a sustainable solution. As the exchanges progress, criteria from different fields meet and complement each other to allow the development of the specifications for the energy production solution which will be ultimately developed.

Abstract (sommario):
Research of manufacturing cell design problems is still pertinent today, because new manufacturing strategies, such as mass customization, call for further improvement of the fundamental performance of cellular manufacturing systems. The main scope of this article is to find the optimal cell design(s) from alternative design(s) by multi-criteria evaluation. For this purpose, alternative design solutions are mutually compared by using the selected performance criteria, namely operational complexity, production line balancing rate, and makespan. Then, multi-criteria decision analysis based on the analytic hierarchy process method is used to show that two more-cell solutions better satisfy the determined criteria of manufacturing cell design performance than three less-cell solutions. The novelty of this research approach refers to the use of the modification of Saaty’s scale for the comparison of alternatives in pairs based on the objective assessment of the designs. Its benefit lies in the exactly enumerated values of the selected criteria, according to which the points from the mentioned scale are assigned to the alternatives.

Abstract (sommario):
The article is devoted to the problem of computer modeling of rational design of tracked vehicle transmissions with multiple criteria. The problems of finding optimal geometric parameters that satisfy several quality criteria. All the complexity of the layout and the relationship of the parameters make difficult their choice, which is simplified when using approaches of mathematical optimization. Using the famous pseudo-random method LPτ-search with the author's modification made it possible to avoid problems associated with the discreteness and the number of parameters. The main optimization criteria for transmission are minimum center distance, minimum length, minimum mass, and maximum uptime probability. To solve this problem, the problem was formulated and design parameters with constraints were specified, criteria were recorded and a transformation from multicriteria to a single criterion was proposed. The approach is based on analysis of test points that obtained using LPτ-search, and further processing of the information received. The approach of transformation from many criteria to one is proposed by introducing the scale of importance by the designer and assigning the importance of each of the criteria, finding the desired solution for each trial point of relative offset, which is proposed to be used as a unifying criterion. Basic schemes and flowcharts of the algorithm elements are provided. The implementation of the computer model was carried out in the Delphi 7 environment.

Abstract (sommario):
The structural design of prestressed arched trusses presents a complex challenge due to the need to balance multiple conflicting objectives such as structural performance, weight, and constructability. This complexity is further compounded by the interdependent nature of the structural elements, which necessitates a comprehensive optimization approach. Addressing this challenge is crucial for advancing construction practices and improving the efficiency and safety of structural designs. The integration of advanced optimization algorithms and decision-making techniques offers a promising avenue for enhancing the design process of prestressed arched trusses. This study proposes the use of three advanced multi-objective optimization algorithms: NSGA-III, CTAEA, and SMS-EMOA, to optimize the structural design of prestressed arched trusses. The performance of these algorithms was evaluated using generational distance and inverted generational distance metrics. Additionally, the non-dominated optimal designs generated by these algorithms were assessed and ranked using multiple multi-criteria decision-making techniques, including SAW, FUCA, TOPSIS, PROMETHEE, and VIKOR. This approach allowed for a robust comparison of the algorithms and provided insights into their effectiveness in balancing the different design objectives. The results of the study indicated that NSGA-III exhibited superior performance with a GD value of 0.215, reflecting a closer proximity of its solutions to the Pareto front, and an IGD value of 0.329, indicating a well-distributed set of solutions across the Pareto front. In comparison, CTAEA and SMS-EMOA showed higher GD values of 0.326 and 0.436, respectively, suggesting less convergence to the Pareto front. However, SMS-EMOA demonstrated a balanced performance in terms of constructability and structural weight, with an IGD value of 0.434. The statistical significance of these differences was confirmed by the Kruskal–Wallis test, with p-values of 2.50×10−15 for GD and 5.15×10−06 for IGD. These findings underscore the advantages and limitations of each algorithm, providing valuable insights for future applications in structural optimization.

Abstract (sommario):
Compliant mechanisms are mechanical devices that achieve motion via elastic deformation. A new method for topological synthesis of single-piece compliant mechanisms is presented, using a “design for required deflection” approach. A simple beam example is used to illustrate this concept and to provide the motivation for a new multi-criteria approach for compliant mechanism design. This new approach handles motion and loading requirements simultaneously for a given set of input force and output deflection specifications. Both a truss ground structure and a two-dimensional continuum are used in the implementation which is illustrated with design examples.

Abstract (sommario):
The sustainable development and operation of mining enterprises as major sources of economic growth in many countries is determined by a balance of economic, environmental, and social objectives and the resources required to achieve these objectives. Transportation is one of the main equipment at open pits. It accounts for up to 70% of open pit operating expenses. Various parameters of transportation means should be coordinated both with the parameters of the open pit and meet the conditions of its operation. The authors have developed a universal system of criteria for selecting a dump truck model for open pit conditions. The novelty of the proposed system lies in the complex consideration of all known factors to date and criteria of dump truck selection and the allocation of four groups of criteria: technical, technological, environmental, economic, and organizational. The groups of criteria and specific criteria in each group were ranked by the degree of importance using the multi-criteria decision-making method FUCOM (Full Consistency Method). The methodology of creating criteria systems in conditions of influence on the choice of alternatives of a set of interrelated factors is presented. The peculiarity of the methodology is the evaluation of different sets of criteria by several groups of experts with different competencies. The obtained criterion ranks are recommended to be used by managers of mining enterprises to choose a dump truck model. The presented methodology is suitable for the development of new systems of criteria, considering significant changes in operating conditions or the emergence of factors not considered in this study. Evaluation of all models of dump trucks on the market using the developed system of criteria is envisaged by the authors in a future study.
