Abstract (sommario):
One of the goals of mixed reality and ubiquitous computing technologies is to provide an adaptable and personal content at any moment, anywhere, and in any context. In Multiplayer Ubiquitous Games (MUGs), players have to interact in the real world at both physical and virtual levels. Player profiles in MUGs offer an opportunity to provide personalized services to gamers. This paper presents a way to manage MUG player profiles on an NFC Smart Card, and proposes a Java API to integrate Smart Cards in the development of MUGs. This user centric approach brings new forms of gameplay, allowing the player to interact with the game or with other players any time and anywhere. Smart Cards should also help improve the security, ubiquity, and the user mobility in traditional MUGs.

Abstract (sommario):
Glasses / mugs and plates have a function as tableware, it also has a function as souvenirs that we can adjust to the desired character and look attractive, so that it has high value to sell. The method used to make souvenirs of glasses / mugs and plates is by means of a screen printing technique with digital printing. Screen printing techniques with digital printing on glasses / mugs and plates are done by a press machine, so that they can be decorated by using names, images according to the desired order. The development of souvenirs of glasses / mugs and plates in Jember is still rarely found. It can be proved, in each shop there are only a few which sell it, but are not produced by themselves. This has become an attractive and beneficial business opportunity for the economic development of the Handycraft Group and the Sekar Kartini Women's Cooperative members whose businesses have been declining recently. Thus, the specific target to be achieved is the establishment of a business unit for souvenirs of character glasses / mugs and plates by using appropriate technology, namely screen-printing presses and digital printing, and marketing management with the help of information technology (social media).

Abstract (sommario):
Context. Massive ultra-compact galaxies (MUGs) are common at z = 2−3, but very rare in the nearby Universe. Simulations predict that the few surviving MUGs should reside in galaxy clusters, whose large relative velocities prevent them from merging, thus maintaining their original properties (namely stellar populations, masses, sizes and dynamical state). Aims. Our goal is to obtain a complete census of the MUG population at 0.02 < z < 0.3, determining the number density, population properties and environment. Methods. We have taken advantage of the high-completeness, large-area spectroscopic GAMA survey, complementing it with deeper imaging from the KiDS and VIKING surveys. We find a set of 22 bona-fide MUGs, defined as having high stellar mass (> 8 × 1010 M⊙) and compact size (Re < 2 kpc). An additional set of seven lower-mass objects (6 × 1010 < M⋆/M⊙ < 8 × 1010) are also potential candidates according to typical mass uncertainties. Results. The comoving number density of MUGs at low redshift (z < 0.3) is constrained at (1.0 ± 0.4)×10−6 Mpc−3, consistent with galaxy evolution models. However, we find a mixed distribution of old and young galaxies, with a quarter of the sample representing (old) relics. MUGs have a predominantly early or swollen disk morphology (Sérsic index 1 < n < 2.5) with high stellar surface densities (⟨Σe⟩∼1010 M⊙ Kpc−2). Interestingly, a large fraction feature close companions – at least in projection – suggesting that many (but not all) reside in the central regions of groups. Halo masses show these galaxies inhabit average-mass groups. Conclusions. As MUGs are found to be almost equally distributed among environments of different masses, their relative fraction is higher in more massive overdensities, matching the expectations that some of these galaxies fell in these regions at early times. However, there must be another channel leading some of these galaxies to an abnormally low merger history because our sample shows a number of objects that do not inhabit particularly dense environments.

Abstract (sommario):
With rare exceptions sociologists have traditionally had little to say about the British monarchy. In the exceptional cases of the Durkheimian functionalism of Shills and Young (1953), the left humanism of Birnbaum (1955), or the archaic state/backward nation thesis of Nairn (1988), the British nation has been conceived as a homogenous mass. The brief episode of the Sex Pistols’ Jubilee year song ‘God Save the Queen’ exposed some of the divisions within the national ‘mass’, forcing a re-ordering of the balance between detachment and belonging to the Royal idea. I argue that the song acted as a kind of ‘breaching experiment’. Its wilful provocation of Royalist sentiment revealed the level of sanction available to the media-industrial complex to enforce compliance to British self-images of loyal and devoted national communicants.

Economic behaviour observed in experiments and in people's everyday dealings is often at variance with predictions and explanations based on standard theory. The findings of systematic patterns of such economic behaviour provide significant opportunities to extend the usefulness of economics. However, like the hesitation of participants in economic experiments to give up their coffee mugs, economists appear reluctant to take advantage of these opportunities.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractTheoretical equivalence exists among various auction mechanisms, specifically the Second-Price-Auction (SPA), a competitive environment, and the BDM mechanism, a non-competitive environment. Yet, empirical studies suggest that behavior in these mechanisms may diverge. Our experimental study examines the WTP and the WTA of individuals by analyzing buying and selling bidding patterns both for a physical product (mugs) and for two types of lotteries (regular lotteries and extreme lotteries) in these two auctions mechanism: SPA and BDM. We found that the WTP in the SPA is higher than the WTP in the BDM for mugs and for regular lotteries, while the mechanisms do not differ significantly for extreme lotteries. In addition, the WTA in the SPA is lower than in the BDM for regular lotteries only. These results indicate that the WTP and WTA, as well as the WTA-WTP gap, tend to differ in the SPA and in the BDM as a result of the interaction between the competitiveness effect and other psychological effects on bidding patterns for riskless and risky assets. In addition, the current study suggests that the competitiveness effect depends not only on the type of mechanism (SPA), but also on the type of item (physical assets or lotteries) and the type of lottery. In addition, the influence of the competitiveness effect may vary between buying and selling positions.

Abstract (sommario):
The role played by urban greenways in supporting physical activity (PA) for public health benefits has been receiving increasing attention. Most studies on this topic have been conducted in plains, whereas studies in mountainous regions have been limited as a result of the complexity of these areas. To address this knowledge gap, this article aims to analyze the effects of the environmental features for a mountainous urban greenway (MUG) on PA, leading to better support for greenway practice in mountainous areas. A volunteered geographic information (VGI) method was applied through the mobile app KEEP to collect 1314 valid records of PA including its density (total PA distance per unit area within the buffer zone) and attributes (distance, duration and speed) in the Yuzhong Peninsula, Chongqing, China. Similar to those of the studies conducted in the plains, our results showed that PA density was affected by the MUG and its surrounding environment. The key environmental features included residential density, open-space POI, the slope, the transportation-MUG (T-MUG) ratio and the recreational-MUG (R-MUG) ratio. For the PA attributes, the MUG showed stronger effects than the surrounding environment. The key environmental features included the slope and type of MUG, of which the former was negatively associated with distance and speed. The T-MUG ratio was positively related to duration and speed, while the R-MUG ratio was positively related to duration and distance. No association was found between livelihood (L-MUG) and PA. Hence, to support both the PA density and attributes, the environmental qualities for recreation and the types of R-MUGs should be given more consideration in practice.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract A recent comparison by Merritt of simulated and observed Milky Way–mass galaxies has identified a significant tension between the outskirts (r > 20 kpc) of the stellar halos in simulated and observed galaxies. Using observations from the Dragonfly telescope and simulated galaxies from the Illustris-TNG100 project, Merritt found that the outskirts of stellar halos in simulated galaxies have surface densities 1–2 dex higher than those of observed galaxies. In this paper, we compare two suites of 15 simulated Milky Way–like galaxies, each drawn from the same initial conditions, simulated with the same hydrodynamical code, but with two different models for feedback from supernovae. We find that the McMaster Unbiased Galaxy Simulations (MUGS), which use an older “delayed-cooling” model for feedback, also produce too much stellar mass in the outskirts of the halo, with median surface densities well above observational constraints. The MUGS2 simulations, which instead use a new, physically motivated “superbubble” model for stellar feedback, have 1–2 dex lower outer stellar halo masses and surface densities. The MUGS2 simulations generally match both the median surface density profile as well as the scatter in stellar halo surface density profiles seen in observed stellar halos. We conclude that there is no “missing outskirts” problem in cosmological simulations, provided that supernova feedback is modeled in a way that allows it to efficiently regulate star formation in the low-mass progenitor environments of stellar halo outskirts.

Abstract (sommario):
Several researches were focused on identifying the chromatic preference in general and on detecting the differences between women and men regarding the colour choices. Usually, researches are carried-out in a theoretical framework, considering that the preferred colours are invariant to their support. The experiment presented in this paper studied the chromatic preference considering three cases: neutral case (colours per se), low-tech products (colours on mugs) and high-tech products (colours on Lytro cameras). Also, the research studied the chromatic preference in terms of types of colours (focal, light, dark and intermediate).

Abstract (sommario):
Plott and Zeiler (2005) report that the willingness-to-pay/willingness-to-accept disparity is absent for mugs in a particular experimental setting, designed to neutralize misconceptions about the procedures used to elicit valuations. This result has received sustained attention in the literature. However, other data from that same study, not published in that paper, exhibit a significant and persistent disparity when the same experimental procedures are applied to lotteries. We report new data confirming both results, thereby suggesting that the presence or absence of a disparity may be a more complex issue than some may have supposed. (JEL C91, D12, D81, D83)

Abstract (sommario):
In the new normal education, educators are expected to maximize to use of technology in providing instructional support to the student making them more engaged in the learning process. The study employed a mixed method to determine the positive effects of utilizing a teacher-made google site in teaching English for Academic and Professional Purposes (EAPP) among selected Grade 11 students. Google Sites is a website-building platform tool for the teacher who wants to build an e-learning environment, and a one-stop hub for students to access modules, interactive worksheets, important resources, video lessons, and reminders. The results of descriptive statistics provided evidence of the effectiveness of the intervention in prompting students’ engagement, independent learning, convenience, time management, and submission of outputs. A Paired-Sample T-test was also conducted. It was found that there was a significant gain with a large effect size on the participants' knowledge after the intervention was implemented. An interview questionnaire was also administered to explore the experiences of the participants towards intervention. Through thematic analysis, it was found that students have positive perceptions and good experience in using the teacher-made google as supported by the frequency of the themes derived from their textual responses. These findings imply that the utilization of Google Sites was an effective learning platform during this time of distance learning. It is recommended that schools will adopt and implement this platform with wider scope as it is proven to help students boost their engagement, and independent learning, gives opportunity to take time in understanding the lesson, and easy access to learning materials
