Abstract It is shown that in some non-discrete topological spaces, discrete subspaces with certain cardinality are C-embedded. In particular, this generalizes the well-known fact that every countable subset of P-spaces are C-embedded. In the presence of the measurable cardinals, we observe that if X is a discrete space then every subspace of υ X (i.e., the Hewitt realcompactification of X) whose cardinal is nonmeasurable, is a C-embedded, discrete realcompact subspace of υ X. This generalizes the well-known fact that the discrete spaces with nonmeasurable cardinal are realcompact.

Abstract A space X is said to have the set-star-K-Menger property if for each nonempty subset A of X and for each sequence (𝓤 n : n ∈ ℕ) of collections of open sets in X such that for each n ∈ ℕ, A ⊆ ⋃ 𝓤 n , there is a sequence (Kn : n ∈ ℕ) of compact subsets of X such that A ⊆ $\begin{array}{} \bigcup\limits_{n \in \mathbb{N}} \end{array} $ St(Kn , 𝓤 n ). In this paper, we prove that: There exists a T 1 set-star-Menger space which is not set-star-K-Menger and there exists a Tychonoff set-star-K-Menger space that is not set-star-Menger. Assuming 𝔡 = 𝔠, there exists a Tychonoff set-star-K-Menger space having a regular-closed Gδ -subspace which is not set-star-K-Menger. If the Alexandroff duplicate of a space X is set-star-K-Menger, then X is set-star-K-Menger. The product of set-star-K-Menger space and a compact space is rectangular set-star-K-Menger space. The above-mentioned results answer to Problem 2.5 and Problem 3.6, and give a partial answer to Problem 3.11 in [SINGH, S.: On set-star-K-Menger spaces, Publ. Math. Debrecen 100 (2022), 87–100]. Further, we continue to study the topological properties of set-star-K-Menger spaces.

Abstract Taghavi et al. in [TAGHAVI, A.—ROHI, H.—DARVISH, V.: Non-linear ∗-Jordan derivations on von Neumann algebras, Linear Multilinear Algebra 64 (2016), 426–439] proved that the map Φ: 𝓐 → 𝓐 which satisfies the following condition $$\begin{array}{} \Phi(A\diamond B)=\Phi(A)\diamond B+A\diamond \Phi(B) \end{array} $$ where A ⋄ B = AB+BA* for every A, B ∈ 𝓐 is an additive ∗-derivation. In this short note, we prove that when A is a prime ∗-algebras and Φ: 𝓐 → 𝓐 satisfies the above condition, then Φ is ∗-additive. Moreover, if Φ(iI) is self-adjoint then Φ is derivation.

The unpleasant stale note is a negative factor hindering the consumption of instant ripened Pu-erh tea products. This study focused on investigating volatile chemicals in instant ripened Pu-erh tea that could mask the stale note via sensory evaluation, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and gas chromatography-olfactometry (GC-O) analyses. GC-MS and GC-O analyses showed that linalool, linalool oxides, trans-β-ionone, benzeneacetaldehyde, and methoxybenzenes were the major aroma contributors to the simultaneous distillation and extraction (SDE) extract of instant ripened Pu-erh tea. Sensory evaluation showed that the SDE extract had a strong stale note, which was due to methoxybenzenes. By investigating suppressive interaction among flavour components, the stale note from methoxybenzenes was shown to have reciprocal masking interactions with sweet, floral, and green notes. Moreover, the validation experiment showed that the addition of 40 μg/mL of trans-β-ionone in the instant ripened Pu-erh tea completely masked the stale note and improved the overall aromatic acceptance. These results elucidate the volatile chemicals that could mask the stale note of instant ripened Pu-erh tea products, which might help to develop high quality products made from instant ripened Pu-erh tea.

Abstract Let F be a number field, OF the integral closure of ℤ in F, and P(T) ∈ OF[T] a monic separable polynomial such that P(0) ≠ 0 and P(1) ≠ 0. We give precise sufficient conditions on a given positive integer k for the following condition to hold: there exist infinitely many non-zero prime ideals 𝓟 of OF such that the reduction modulo 𝓟 of P(T) has a root in the residue field OF/𝓟, but the reduction modulo 𝓟 of P(Tk) has no root in OF/𝓟. This makes a result from a previous paper (motivated by a problem in field arithmetic) asserting that there exist (infinitely many) such integers k more precise.

With the help of this equality, there are established several fractional Simpson type inequalities for functions whose second derivatives in absolute value are convex. ABSTRACT Motivated by applications of lattice-valued functions (lattice-valued fuzzy sets) in the theory of ordered structures, we investigate a special kind of posets and lattices induced by these mappings. As a framework, we use the Formal Concept Analysis in which these ordered structures can be naturally observed. We characterize the lattice of cut sets and the Dedekind-MacNeille completion of the set of images of a lattice valued function by suitable concept lattices and we give necessary and sufficient conditions under which these lattices coincide. In addition, we give conditions under which the lattice of cuts is completely distributive.

Abstract. The same unetched and chemically etched apatite crystals from five rock samples were dated by the U–Pb method via laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA–ICP-MS). The objective of this study is to test whether chemical etching required for apatite fission track analysis impacts the precision and accuracy of apatite U–Pb geochronology. The results of this experiment suggest that etching has insignificant effects on the accuracy of apatite U–Pb ages obtained by LA–ICP-MS. Therefore, LA–ICP-MS is reliable for U–Pb analysis as part of apatite fission track and U–Pb double dating.

What is a positive continuous function $L\colon \mathbb{C}^n\to \mathbb{R}_+$ and a direction $\mathbf{b}\in\mathbb{C}^n\setminus\{\mathbf{0}\}$ such that the composite function $f(\Phi(z))$ has bounded $L$-index in the direction~$\mathbf{b}$?'' In the present paper, early known result on boundedness of $L$-index in direction for the composition of entire functions $f(\Phi(z))$ is modified. We replace a condition that a directional derivative of the inner function $\Phi$ in a direction $\mathbf{b}$ does not equal zero. The condition is replaced by a construction of greater function $L(z)$ for which $f(\Phi(z))$ has bounded $L$-index in a direction. It has been applied several times in the last few years using fast response proton-transfer-reaction mass spectrometry (PTR-MS). We present an independent validation of this technique by applying it to measure the water vapour flux in comparison to a common reference system comprising an infra-red gas analyser (IRGA). Water vapour was detected in the PTR-MS at mass 37 (atomic mass units) corresponding to the cluster ion H3O+·H2O. During a five-week field campaign at a grassland site, we obtained a non-linear but stable calibration function between the mass 37 signal and the reference water vapour concentration. With a correction of the high-frequency damping loss based on empirical ogive analysis, the eddy covariance water vapour flux obtained with the PTR-MS showed a very good agreement with the flux of the reference system. The application of the empirical ogive method for high-frequency correction led to significantly better results than using a correction based on theoretical spectral transfer functions. This finding is attributed to adsorption effects on the tube walls that are presently not included in the theoretical correction approach.

A fast two-dimensional gas chromatography (GC-MS) method that uses heart-cutting and thermal extraction (TE) and requires no chemical derivatization was developed for the determination of anhydro-sugars in fine aerosols. Evaluation of the TE-GC-GC-MS method shows high average relative accuracy (≥90%), reproducibility (≤10% relative standard deviation), detection limits of less than 3 ng/μL, and negligible carryover for levoglucosan, mannosan, and galactosan markers. TE-GC-GC-MS- and solvent extraction (SE)-GC-MS-measured levoglucosan concentrations correlate across several diverse types of biomass burning aerosols. Because the SE-GC-MS measurements were taken 8 years prior to the TE-GC-GC-MS ones, the stability of levoglucosan is established for quartz filter-collected biomass burning aerosol samples stored at ultra-low temperature (−50 °C). Levoglucosan concentrations (w/w) in aerosols collected following atmospheric dilution near open fires of varying intensity are similar to those in biomass burning aerosols produced in a laboratory enclosure. An average levoglucosan-mannosan-galactosan ratio of 15:2:1 is observed for these two aerosol sets. TE-GC-GC-MS analysis of atmospheric aerosols from the US and Africa produced levoglucosan concentrations (0.01–1.6 μg/m3) well within those reported for aerosols collected globally and examined using different analytical techniques (0.004–7.6 μg/m3). Further comparisons among techniques suggest that fast TE-GC-GC-MS is among the most sensitive, accurate, and precise methods for compound-specific quantification of anhydro-sugars. In addition, an approximately twofold increase in anhydro-sugar determination may be realized when combining TE with fast chromatography.

Abstract A multiresidue method based on GC or LC and MS or MS/MS for the determination of 204 pesticides in diverse food matrixes of animal and plant origin is described. The method can include different stages of cleanup according to the chemical characteristics of each sample. Samples were extracted using accelerated solvent extraction. Those with a high fat content or that contained chlorophyll required further purification by gel permeation chromatography and/or SPE (ENVI-Carb). The methodology developed here was fully validated; the LOQs for the 204 pesticides are presented. The LOQ values lie between 0.01 to 0.02 mg/kg. However, in some cases, mainly in baby food, they were as low as 0.003 mg/kg, thereby meeting European Union requirements on maximum residue levels for pesticides, as outlined in European regulation 396/2005 and the Commission Directive 2003/13/EC. The procedure has been accredited for a wide scope of pesticides and matrixes by the Spanish Accreditation Body (ENAC) following ISO/IEC 17025:2005, as outlined in ENAC technical note NT-19.

Thesis or dissertation is a research report concerns a problem or series of problems in the area of applied or basic research. Abstract should contain all elements of the thesis in an extreme shorter form. Need to try to accommodate the description of the works including introduction, design and methodology within 2-3 sentences. Key findings of the experiments should be written in very brief. After findings, key words are written. The key words have to be different from the words in the title and to be arranged alphabetically. Introduction covers (i) identification of scientific problem stated in brief, (ii) critical analysis of relevant background information of the study to justify the problem using past research reports, (iii) identification of scientific information gap based on background analysis, (iv) formulation of the hypothesis, i.e making researchers best guess at the answer to the problem, and (v) formulation of specific objective(s) of the work. Review of literature has two reasons. One is to explain the results, need to collect only the relevant information and the other is to find out the gap or unexplored area for the study, that the designed work is either original or some works done still gaps are remained and/or different workers on the line to find contrast results. In materials and methods, the materials including treatments used in the study are recorded. Listed parameters are also mentioned. New technique(s) should be described in detail, other wise mention name only if necessary giving a brief note. Mention the layout/design of the experiments and analysis procedure. In results and discussion, we describe results chronologically and conclude logically. Presentation of the same result both in table and graph is prohibited. In this paper, we study the value distribution of the differential polynomial $\varphi f^2f^{(k)}-1$, where $f(z)$ is a transcendental meromorphic function, $\varphi (z)\;(\not\equiv 0)$ is a small function of $f(z)$ and $k\;(\geq 2)$ is a positive integer. We obtain an inequality concerning the Nevanlinna Characteristic function $T(r,f)$ estimated by reduced counting function only. Our result extends the result due to J.F. Xu and H.X. Yi [J. Math. AbstractThis essay sheds new light on the controversial fourteenth-century poet and compiler Lodewijk van Velthem. Specifically, the article considers the possible relationships between The Hague, Koninklijke Bibliotheek, MS 129 A 10, the manuscript containing the famous Lancelot Compilation, and Leiden, University Library, MS BPL 14 E, the only extant manuscript with Velthem's entire Fifth Part of the Spiegel historiael. A note written at the end of the manuscript in The Hague naming Velthem has been interpreted in different ways, either as a note of the manuscript's ownership, or as the attribution of the compilation to Velthem. Other scholars have considered Velthem the 'corrector' of the manuscript. The relatively low quality of these two manuscripts, as well as the types of annotations made in the margins of MS 129 A 10, however, can be explained when we consider both books as the poet's working copies, as manuscripts which formed part of Velthem's own literary archive.
