Abstract The macroscopic mechanical properties of granular materials are closely related to their microscopic properties, and studying the compression problem of powder is helpful for establishing a constitutive law of powder compaction process. This study utilized X-ray CT technology to investigate the 3D numerical analysis model of loose particle stacking and compaction based on MPFEM, and investigated the mechanical behavior of powder under compression. The results of MPFEM were experimentally verified through powder uniaxial compression experiments, and the results showed that the calculated results of MPFEM were in good agreement with the experimental results. The method of X-ray CT can effectively capture the geometric characteristics of powder particles, and the MPFEM can obtain the true characteristics of plastic deformation of powder bodies, which is an important means of developing powder compaction constitutive models.

In this study high relative density compaction of AISI 4140 steel powder compaction numerically investigated via different compaction velocities using Multi Particle Finite Element Method (MPFEM). 2D Analyses performed by three different particle geometry; 25µm, 35µm and 45µm in radius. Particle size effect also investigated via high relative density and compaction velocity. von Mises Power law evaluated for AISI 4140 steel powder and utilized to analysis. Results were plotted both in visually and graphically in aim to show effect of relative density, particle size, contact interactions and compaction velocity. The stress distribution through the height of die revealed out. A four-fold increase in compaction velocity increase the Equivalent von Mises stress 2% where the stress value can reach up to 3 times the yield stress. Stress values along the punch to the bottom of the die show a parabolic tendency with compaction velocity increase.

Abstract (sommario):
Réalisées en acier à très haute résistance mécanique, certaines pièces de moteur d'avion, très sensibles à la corrosion, sont protégées par un revêtement à base de particules d'aluminium incorporées dans une matrice sol-gel. Suite à une étape de cuisson après dépôt sur la pièce, un réseau de fissures et porosités se développe. Une densification du revêtement est réalisée par un procédé de compactage par impact mécanique. Les objectifs de cette thèse sont l'analyse du procédé de compactage et ses effets sur la microstructure du revêtement pour améliorer sa tenue à la corrosion via des analyses expérimentales et le développement d'un modèle numérique. Des moyens de contrôle du procédé au travers des mesures de la vitesse d'impact des médias (corindon, bicarbonate de sodium) ainsi que du taux de recouvrement ont été mis en place. L'étude du revêtement avant et après compactage a permis de mettre en avant des descripteurs morphologiques et mécaniques. Il est noté la présence d'un fort gradient de propriétés dans l'épaisseur du revêtement avec un allongement des particules en surface dû à leur déformation plastique sous impact ainsi qu'une augmentation de leur dureté. Selon les paramètres procédé, les fissures et porosités initiales sont totalement refermées et des relations avec la tenue en corrosion peuvent être établies. Le modèle numérique développé se base sur la répétition d'impacts de médias sur un revêtement modélisé par la méthode MPFEM (MultiParticle Finite Element Method) en 2D. Après une calibration à l'aide d'essais d'indentation instrumentée, des études paramétriques mono puis multi-impacts ont permis d'analyser l'influence des différents paramètres procédé. Ces simulations ont également mis en avant la densification du revêtement par un réarrangement local des particules et par leur allongement par déformation plastique. Afin de prendre en compte le chargement complexe tridimensionnel du compactage, un modèle 3D est aussi développé. Le revêtement est modélisé à l'aide d'un modèle continu équivalent, basé sur une loi de comportement de Drucker-Prager/Cap dont les paramètres sont calibrés à partir de la MPFEM
To ensure the corrosion protection of some aircraft engines parts, a coating made of aluminum particles embedded in a sol-gel matrix is deposited on a high-strength steel substrate. After a curing step, cracks and porosities are formed and need to be closed. The coating is densified by a compaction shot-peening process. The objectives of this thesis are to analyze the compaction process and its effects on the coating microstructure to understand its corrosion resistance through an experimental analysis and the development of a numerical model. Means of process control were implemented by measuring the impact velocity of the shots (corundum and sodium bicarbonate) and the coverage rate. A study of the coating before and after compaction identified morphological and mechanical descriptors. A strong gradient of properties was observed along the thickness of the coating, with an elongation of the particles at the surface due to plastic deformation under impact, and an increase in hardness. Depending on the process parameters, the initial cracks and porosities are completely closed, and relationships with corrosion resistance can be established. The developed numerical model is based on repeated media impacts on a coating modeled using MPFEM (MultiParticle Finite Element Method) in 2D. After calibrating the model using instrumented indentation tests, parametric single- and multi-impact studies were carried out to analyze the influence of process parameters. These simulations highlighted the densification of the coating through local particle rearrangement and elongation by plastic deformation. In order to take into account the complex three-dimensional loading during compaction, a 3D model was developed. The coating was modeled using an equivalent continuous model, based on a Drucker-Prager/Cap behavior law, whose parameters were calibrated compared to MPFEM

The acquisition of representative subsea fluid sampling from offshore field development asset is crucial for the correct evaluation of oil reserves and for the design of subsea production facilities. Due to rising operational expenditures, operators and manufacturers have been working hard to provide systems to enable cost effective subsea fluid sampling solutions. To achieve this, any system has to collect sufficient sample volumes to ensure statistically valid characterisation of the sampled fluids. In executing the research project, various subsea sampling methods used in the offshore industry were examined and ranked using multi criteria decision making; a solution using a remote operated vehicle was selected as the preferred method, to compliment the subsea multiphase flowmeter capability, used to provide well diagnostics to measure individual phases – oil, gas, and water. A mechanistic (compositional fluid tracking) model is employed, using the fluid properties that are equivalent to the production flow stream being measured, to predict reliable reservoir fluid characteristics on the subsea production system. This is applicable even under conditions where significant variations in the reservoir fluid composition occur in transient production operations. The model also adds value in the decision to employ subsea processing in managing water breakthrough as the field matures. This can be achieved through efficient processing of the fluid with separation and boosting delivered to the topside facilities or for water re-injection to the reservoir. The combination of multiphase flowmeter, remote operated vehicle deployed fluid sampling and the mechanistic model provides a balanced approach to reservoir performance monitoring. Therefore, regular and systematic field tailored application of subsea fluid sampling should provide detailed understanding on formation fluid, a basis for accurate prediction of reservoir fluid characteristic, to maximize well production in offshore field development.

This paper is presented for tracking a person in the visual surveillance system and to detect the pose of that particular person presented in that video. This concept is fully based on monitoring elderly people, patients, and people with disabilities. In the present day monitoring them for the whole day has been difficult and high-end surveillance is also difficult. So automatic pose detection makes these tasks easier. The algorithm presented here not only recognize human pose like running, walking but also includes abnormal pose detection like fall detection for elderly people, people with chronic disease are suffering from strokes and often fell down , the algorithm can also detect the various pose of a human. Although the technique to find human pose are existing but detecting human pose in surveillance system are difficult due to its movement presented in the video. In particular, we demonstrated by separating the motion pixel by (MPEM) pixel expectation maximization. (MPEM) is the process of separating the movement pixel. Finally KL transform is applied to track the action and pose of a human. The kinetic sensor SDK used to recognize the human body with high accuracy and more efficiency. Human body and face authentication modality are performed using various methods such as artificial neural network (ANN). Several experiments are performed to validate the effectiveness are performed to validate the effectiveness of the proposed system tracking approach, the result of which seems quite promising.

Abstract Measurement performance assurance for subsea multiphase flow meters (MPFM) can derive motivation from several sources of technical and/or business need, ranging from well surveillance to flow assurance monitoring, to production allocation among commingled sources of varying royalty, taxation, or ownership. Often, the more sensitive the subsea MPFM measurement is to a technical or business driver the more difficult it can be to initiate a comparison to a reference measurement or reference fluids such as topside measurement. Thus, providing assurance for subsea MPFM measurement performance requires a coordinated effort of MPFM performance surveillance – a combination of data and activities that can enable continuous indication of MPFM measurement performance, with or without periodic comparisons with reference measurements. However, utilizing MPFM performance surveillance information – which can come from a multitude of sources – can be confusing and potentially misinformative if a rigorous methodology to systematize the information isn't applied. It was in this context that a surveillance methodology using data validation and reconciliation (DVR) was chosen to leverage the disparate surveillance information available and provide quantitative measurement performance assurance results for a subsea MPFM. DVR was applied to assess the performance of a subsea MPFM incorporated within a subsea/topside field. Multiple sources of surveillance data and information were utilized in the application including the subsea MPFM, independent water-liquid ratio measurement, pressures and temperatures throughout the network, fluid properties, inlet separator flow measurements, and well test results. Three main objectives were established to demonstrate efficacy of the applied DVR methodology for subsea MPFM measurement performance assurance: 1) quantified DVR results for direct MPFM validation via well test; 2) continuous DVR condition-based monitoring (CBM) of the subsea MPFM within a defined subsea/topsides topology during normal operations, and 3) DVR-derived uncertainty estimates for the subsea MPFM. Several case studies using DVR surveillance are presented to address subsea measurement performance assurance through direct validation, CBM and uncertainty estimation. Each case study describes the workflow and detailed explanations for the steps taken in the DVR surveillance methodology. Implementation challenges and lessons learned are also presented, along with a strategy for sustained subsea MPFM measurement performance assurance using a DVR-based surveillance approach.

Abstract The objective of this paper is to demonstrate multiple application of multi-energy gamma ray venture type multiphase flowmeter (MPFM) trial campaign in Karachaganak gas condensate giant carbonate field, operated by KPO B.V. The results of MPFM that was included into surface well test spread, to verify its performance, was compared against portable test separator and plant production testing facilities (control separator, flowmeters) and manual sampling results. MPFM from other vendors historically failed to deliver accurate production measurement mainly due to complexity of reservoir fluid in Karachaganak field. To ensure the MPFM considers this complexity, PVT samples were taken to provide laboratory data for PVT model of the MPFM to ensure sufficient quality of PVT data and compare against PVT model inside MPFM. First application of MPFM was during clean-up of the well prior handover well to production. Using MPFM helped to improve the quality during data acquisition. This information was critical for the well to be accepted by processing facility it is hooked-up to and to define optimal operating regime. Validation of BS&W, GOR and rates in unstable (foaming, carry over) and transient phase of production using MPFM has shown practical advantages. Another application was for water sampling loops to measure water cut and production rates. KPO has had challenges with inaccurate water cut measurement due to the limitations of existing test separators. A recent approach of performing fluid sampling (sampling loop) at the well head proved to be reliable source of measurements. In addition, the MPFM in combination with the test separator has been used to further improve the quality of the measurements of each phase. The third MPFM application had been with high gas-volume-fraction (HGVF) pumps, that helped to produce from low reservoir pressure, low GOR and high water cut wells. The operational range of HGVF pump was limited to maximum 75-80% of gas-volume-fraction (GVF). MPFM measures GVF in real-time to ensure HGVF pump operates in optimum operational range by managing the surface flow conditions. With current limitations of test separators in Karachaganak field and due to complexity of the gas-condensate fluid, the use of MPFM brings additional quality in the measurements (rates, water cut and GOR) which is crucial for field production optimization, reservoir management and short and long term forecasting.

Abstract Multiphase flowmeters (MPFM) are used to measure oil, water, and gas volumetric flow rates in real time without phase separation. Field-proven MPFM play an important role in oilfield operations as the trusted flow measurements enable production optimization and flow assurance. However, accurate multiphase flow metering requires knowledge of the reservoir fluid properties. Therefore, operators require reliable methods to keep the MPFM configuration updated and representative of the production fluids. This is particularly important for subsea fields where physical access to the MPFM can be difficult. This paper describes a successful remote water-phase characterization leading to reconfiguration of a dual-energy spectral gamma ray MPFM for an oil well in a deepwater field offshore Ghana. Reconfiguration of the MPFM was performed using data from when the well was shut in and the flowmeter venturi throat was filled with water at static flow conditions. The data was taken from Subsea Live data-driven performance service from OneSubsea (the vendor), which offers real-time data for health, operational and production insights for subsea assets. The mass attenuation coefficients for water were updated in the MPFM configuration to more representative values, determined using historical data. After the remote reconfiguration, the reconfigured MPFM demonstrated good accuracy when benchmarked against topside separator measurements, showing a proper agreement between the estimated in-situ values using historical flow metering data and the experimental measurements for both high energy and low energy water mass attenuation coefficients.

Abstract The use of Multiphase Flow Meters (MPFM) has been increasing in the last decades in different well monitoring applications. It is important to extend the working life of this equipment as they have reached the end of life and yet can properly operate before it has to be discarded for technical and obsolescence reasons. During the early stage of project development, MPFMs are selected and sized based on forecasted well production. At the later production stage of field development, usually flow-rates decline. As a result, the differential pressure through Venturi based MPFM will go below the minimum threshold, to maintain good metrological performances, it then requires to change to a smaller size MPFM. This paper discusses the design, qualification, and field-test of a new methodology of extending the operating envelope of the MPFM using insert to ensure that the well monitoring data remain accurate and reliable without compromising the safety and integrity of the installation. The insert venturi application developed is named the LRE "low-rate extender" tool because it reduces the cross-sectional area at the venturi throat, which increases the differential pressure for low flow rates and maintains the measurement accuracy. The project was launched by first decommissioning one sample MPFM from the wellsite and sending it to the product center to build the customized tool and ensure all mechanical constraints and considerations are tackled on the spot. Once the insert venturi device has been manufactured and duly inspected, the validation phase started through flow-loop testing. The performance of the MPFM with LRE is expected to be similar to MPFM without it. 328 test points were tested at four pressure levels with a water-liquid ratio (WLR) ranging from 0 to 100 % and a gas-volume fraction (GVF) from 0 to 100 % to prove the accuracy of MPFM with LRE. The validation considered the accuracy in total mass rate, liquid and gas rates, and WLR. The last phase consisted of field trials, where comparison tests have been performed at different flow regimes between permanent MPFM with LRE and mobile MPFM of smaller Venturi size, the test has been extended for 6 months to monitor the MPFM with LRE long-term reliability. The article discusses the new development of a retrofittable tool to extend the life of the MPFMs. It is a cost-effective solution and its workflow of design and validation can be applied to other MPFMs using the same measurement methodology facing similar flow measurement challenges.
