Main topic of the Master's Thesis is mobile marketing in Czech Republic and the goal is to describe development of mobile devices, provided services and usage in marketing and marketing communication. Theoretical part is concerning development of the mobile devices and services where each topic is followed by a case study. Practical part contains quantitative and qualitative research. Quantitative on-line based research was conducted on sample of 100 deliberately chosen users. Main goal of this research was evaluation of average user experience with mobile marketing. Qualitative research was conducted by guided discussion with experts in the area of mobile marketing. Main goal of the research was assess actual scope of the use by marketers in context of the situation on the Czech market and discuss future development of this area.

This thesis investigates the potential of and prospects for mobile documentary filmmaking. As a result of practice-led research, the city film Max with a Keitai was produced on mobile camera phones for cinematic projection. The feature-length documentary portrays the contemporary Japanese megalopolis through the lens of a mobile phone and records the mobile filmmaking process. Simultaneously, the project experimented with mobile phones as viewing devices for ‘micro-movies’. Through curating an international mobile art exhibition and mobile feature film screening, the research explored the new mobile aesthetic from 2004 onwards, which is presented as the Keitai Aesthetic in this thesis. In the first chapters the thesis maps out the early mobile mediascape in the years 2004 to 2007 and analyses cinematic technology through user-based histories. Furthermore, the theoretical framework explores the city films of the 1920s and the concept of motion in film. Mobile filmmaking in the years 2004 to 2007 constitutes a return to non-linear documentary practices, such as interval theory (Dziga Vertov) and Ur-Kino (Hans Richter). The final chapters examine the new emerging mobile aesthetic in the research timeframe from 2004 to 2007 and further develop the argument that innovation in mobile filmmaking occurred, both in the domain of the gallery and the film-festival context before the media industry realized the potential of mobile media. The particular mobile resolution adds new elements to the emerging Keitai Aesthetic: the experience of location, notions of personal, immediate and intimate qualities. This research documents the alternative approach offered by the mobile-mentary (mobile documentary) and explores its potential as an intervention into the industry dominated discourse.

N. Bukauskas. Mobile Work Place for the Manager in Private Limited Liability Company “Elektronikos komponentai” Master’s thesis (advisor prof. G. Kulvietis – Šiauliai, Šiauliai University, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, Department of Computer Science, 2005, 32 pages). In a theoretical chapter of the Master thesis, the conception of mobility and mobile work place is analysed, equipment and software for equipping the mobile work place are discussed as well as mobile solutions introduced by Lithuanian companies are reviewed. Aim of the practical chapter is to equip the mobile work place (places) in Private Limited Liability Company “Elektronikos komponentai”. In order to achieve this goal, work analysis for the employees in every unit has been performed. The general aim of the analysis is to understand and assimilate the problem prior to its realisation. Upon analysis of the work in the sales unit, it was noticed that the largest amount of “manual” work is in this unit, because it is in particular its employees, who due to their work type, spend most of the time not inside the company, but outside its limits. Namely due to these reasons, the sales unit was selected for equipping the mobile work place. After the work analysis of the sales unit, a model of the mobile work place for the manager was created. Tekniken kring mobiltelefoni är under ständig utveckling och mobiltelefonen har idag fått nya funktioner utöver dess grundfunktion röstsamtal. Efterfrågan efter nya mobila tjänster drivs hela tiden framåt då mobilen får allt större kapacitet och prestanda. Bland de tjänster som växts fram märks möjligheten att utföra monetära transaktioner. Detta innebär helt enkelt att använda sin mobiltelefon för att betala och utföra allehanda tjänster kopplade till användarens monetära tillgångar. Överföringen av pengar kräver dock hög säkerhet. Vad vet egentligen konsumenterna om säkerheten kring dessa tjänster? Många betalningar och transaktioner sker idag över Internet och bankerna förmedlar budskapet om att säkerheten runt deras Internettjänster är mycket hög, men vad säger de om säkerheten för deras mobila alternativ? Finns den höga säkerheten även för de mobila tjänsterna och har användarna förtroende fullt ut för dessa? Finns inte användarnas förtroende för säkerheten hos de nya mobila tjänsterna kommer de troligtvis inte heller användas. Vi ämnar därför i denna uppsats utreda om säkerheten i en mobil betalningstjänst motsvarar den som finns när den utförs på en dator i hemmet och har detta i slutändan användarnas förtroende?

Syftet med detta arbete är att undersöka vilket förtroende användarna har för säkerheten hos mobila betalningstjänster samt om dessa tjänster uppfyller samma säkerhetskrav som när de används via normal datoranvändning. Studien påbörjades med en genomgång av befintlig litteratur inom säkerheten för mobilt Internet samt Internetanvändande vid hemdatorn. Sedan genomfördes intervjuer av personer med stor kunskap kring säkerheten hos mobilt Internet. För att få reda på användarnas förtroende kring mobila betaltjänster genomförde vi sedan en webbaserad surveyundersökning varvid en fokusgrupps-undersökning användes till hjälp gällande framtagningen av frågorna. Utfallen från intervjuerna samt surveyundersökningen analyserades sedan tillsammans med utvald teori.

Våra resultat visar att majoriteten av respondenterna inte känner förtroende för säkerheten hos mobila betalningstjänster. De flesta anser att det inte är lika säkert att surfa via mobilen som via datorn i hemmet. Däremot kan hälften av individerna i populationen tänka sig att betala över Internet med mobiltelefonen och en betydande del kan även tänka sig att utföra finansiella affärer med hjälp av mobiltelefonen. Vi anser också att en mobiltelefon inte når upp till samma säkerhetsnivå som hos en stationär dator med fast Internet.


The mobile technology is under constant development and the mobile phone today has many other functions besides just talking. The demand for new mobile services is constantly getting stronger since the mobile phone becomes more and more powerful. Among these services is the possibility to perform transactions of money. With this we mean using the mobile phone to pay bills and other services that is connected to a user’s assets. The transaction of money of course requires high security. What do the consumers know about the security surrounding these kinds of services? Today many payments and transactions that involve money takes place over the Internet from the home computer and the banks that offers these services claims that this is safe. But what do they say about the security surrounding their mobile alternatives? Does the necessary security exist for these mobile services and does it have the consumers trust? If the users do not trust the security surrounding the mobile service, they will probably not use them. We will therefore with this thesis try to investigate if the security that surrounds the mobile payment services is equivalent to when the services is used on a home computer and if the services has the users trust?

The purpose with this thesis is to investigate the users trust regarding mobile payment services and if these services fulfil the same security demands as when they are used normally at the home computer. The study began with a review of existing theories regarding the security for mobile Internet and Internet usage on the home computer. Thereafter interviews took place with experts having great knowledge regarding mobile Internet security. We then performed a web-based survey to get information about the users trust for the security surrounding mobile payment services. We used a focus group with the aim of helping us selecting relevant questions for the survey. The results from the interviews and the survey study were then analyzed with the chosen theory.

On the basis of our survey we can draw the conclusion that the majority of respondents do not trust the security that surrounds mobile payment services. The majority is of the opinion that it is not as safe to use mobile Internet services as to use the corresponding service from the computer at home. However half of the population could very well consider paying bills with the mobile phone and a large part of the respondents would also like to use financial transactions with this kind of media. We also conclude that a mobile phone does not reach the security standard of a home computer.

Företaget Saab AB i Karlstad har utvecklat produkten Paratus Pocket Translator för att hjälpa ambulans\-sjukvårdare kommunicera med patienter som inte talar samma språk. Eftersom denna produkt enbart finns på en utgående mobil plattform behöver Saab en omskrivning av denna produkt på en modern plattform. Denna uppsats beskriver projektet Mobile Translator vilket även blev produktens arbetsnamn. Projektets huvudsakliga syfte var en ny version av den tidigare produkten Paratus Pocket Translator för Windows med bibehållen funktionalitet. Projektet har resulterat i en Windows applikation baserad på moderna tekniker som tillfredställer Saabs behov och önskemål.
The company Saab AB in Karlstad has developed the product Paratus Pocket Translator to help paramedics communicate with patients who do not speak the same language. This product is only available on an older mobile platform that has since been replaced. Saab is now in need of a rewrite of this product on a more modern platform. This dissertation describes the project Mobile Translator, which also became the products working title. The project's main aim was a new version of the previous product Paratus Pocket Translator for Windows with maintained functionality. The project has resulted in a Windows application based on modern technologies that satisfies Saab's needs and requests.

Ibyggbranschen i Sverige idag strävas det efter att fortsätta utvecklingen av eneffektivisering gällande miljö, kvalitet och styrning.Samhället och byggbranchen har utvecklats och digitaliserats enormt de senasteåren, dock har vissa mindre delområden avstannat och det är bland annatdigitala metoder för arbetsordrar och registrering bland hantverkare.  Studien som är gjord syftar därför till att undersöka ifall det går atteffektivisera och digitalisera metoder gällande arbetsordrar och registrering.Uppsatsen syftar till att undersöka ifall det går att effektivisera styrningen,miljöpåverkan, kvaliteten och ekonomiska delar bland byggföretag med hjälp aven mobil applikationslösning.I studien har jag valt att använda mig utav teori gällande miljö, kvalitet,styrning och finansiering där jag fördjupat mig i delar som är påverkningsbarmed hjälp av ett digitalt verktyg i form av en mobil applikation och dessfunktioner.För ett införande av applikationslösningen krävs det en invänjning och enmotivation ifrån hantverkarna eftersom att det innebär en stor förändringjämfört med den manuella metoden som använts under en längre tidsperiod. Detframgår att arbetsbelastningen för vissa delar i arbetet kan minska blandtjänstemännen vid  ett fullständigtinförande av den mobila portalen eftersom att vissa led försvinner när detgäller bland annat arbetsordrar och registrering. Jag kan konstatera att enförbättrad och förenklad version av applikationslösningen krävs för att få ettfullständigt införande bland hantverkarna.
In Sweden there is a continuing effort to develop a more effective construction industry with a focus on environment, quality and control.When compared to the industrial sector it has been acknowledged that the construction industry has lagged behind the current environmental and quality requirements and standards. The construction industry has been developed and digitalized tremendously over the last few years; however some small businesses have not been able to follow.A couple of examples of this are the digital methods for work orders and registrations among craftsmen.In this study I will look at the possibilities of digitalization and the methods to produce work orders and registrations more effectively.This thesis aims to examine if it is possible to improve the control, quality and economical aspects of construction companies by using a mobile phone application.I have chosen to use theory concerning environment, quality, control and financial where I have studied the aspects which are influenced by a digital device in form of a mobile application and its functions.There is opposing consensus among the officials who are affected by the mobile phone application.It appears that the workload can be reduce clearly and the possibility to improve the control using the application. I can state that the mobile application must be simplified to get a total usage among the craftsmen.

In the last three years, several advanced toolkits for developing mobile augmented reality applications have been released. This in combination with the increased computational power of commercially available mobile devices has led to a great surge of attention given to the development of such applications. Currently, most mobile augmented reality applications being developed are within the gaming category. In this study, one of the less popular use cases, indoor navigation, were explored. An initial literature study was carried out followed by the development of a prototype which were then evaluated through different usability tests. During the tests, the test subjects navigated partly with the use of the prototype and partly with traditional navigational aids present in the shopping mall where the testing took place. The test subjects navigated 28% faster on average when using the prototype and felt that it was more intuitive. Different negative aspects were, however, also observed such as a decreased awareness of their surroundings. In the end, mobile augmented reality was deemed to have great potential when used in the context of indoor navigation even though some technical challenges would likely need to be solved before widespread adoption could take place.
Under de senaste tre åren har flera avancerade verktyg för utveckling av mobilapplikationer med förstärkt verklighet lanserats. Detta i kombination med den ökade prestandan av kommersiellt tillgängliga mobila enheter har lett till en stor ökning av utvecklandet av sådana applikationer. För närvarande är majoriteten av de mobila applikationer med förstärkt verklighet som utvecklas inom kategorin spel. I denna studie undersöktes ett av de mindre populära användningsområdena, inomhusnavigering. Initialt utfördes en litteraturstudie följt av utvecklingen av en prototyp som sedan utvärderades genom olika användartester. Under testerna navigerade deltagarna dels med prototypen dels med de traditionella navigationshjälpmedel som fanns i köpcentret där testerna ägde rum. Deltagarna navigerade i genomsnitt 28% snabbare vid användning av prototypen och kände överlag att den var mer intuitiv att använda. Olika negativa aspekter med prototypen observerades såsom en minskad medvetenhet av omgivningen. I slutändan bedömdes mobilapplikationer med förstärkt verklighet ha stor potential vid användning för inomhusnavigering men att olika tekniska utmaningar sannolikt skulle behöva lösas före en mer utbredd användning av teknologin.

Il tema principale sviluppato nell'elaborato riguarda il Mobile Marketing e gli strumenti più proficui utilizzati da questa nuova tecnica di marketing, in particolar modo le App. In primo luogo viene trattato il tema del brand: importante mezzo comunicativo che dal primo momento intacca il pensiero del cliente e ne veicola le scelte di acquisto. Frutto di un'analisi ben più specifica è l'argomento del mobile marketing, le strategie migliori da adoperare per sfruttare al meglio i device portatili, i vantaggi maggiori che riceveranno le aziende che lo adotteranno e un piccolo accenno sui principali strumenti del mobile. Infine di svilupperà maggiormente l'argomento delle Applicazioni mobili e di quelle app brandizzate che hanno riscontrato maggior successo tra gli utenti.

This thesis presents an analysis of the relationship that exists between the use of place-specific information in mobile communication technologies and the different aspects of place-making and self-presentation in London. Through a study of empirical data collected from seven focus groups, during which a total of 38 participants were asked to draw sketch maps of London to shed light on social and spatial interactions in the urban space related to the proliferation of mobile communication technologies and their location-aware features. To this end, the development of locative media within specific types of location-aware mobile devices and services is shown to be intimately interrelated with different aspects of place-making and self-presentation in London. This thesis demonstrates that mobile and locative media serves as a platform through which the user can communicate different aspects of themselves and their relationship with specific places, while also constructing a sense of those places by sharing individual narratives of their everyday lives. Highlighting the significance of sharing and retrieving locational information through mobile and locative media, this study not only analyses the use of mobile and locative media in everyday life, but reflects also on how the perception of places is transformed as a result of social and spatial interactions, and the practices of sharing and remembering, as well as navigating. Employing a holistic approach in the framing and research of locative media, and introducing sketch-mapping as a creative methodology in the form of focus groups for a research into communication and media, this thesis makes an original contribution to existing literature, especially in the field of mobile and locative media.

Mobile payments are an emerging trend and an alternative to traditional payment methods. Mobile payments involve the usage of the mobile phone to handle credit transfers during purchase of goods and peer to peer money transfers referred to as mobile wallet service, instead of depending on bank cards and cash. In this scenario, while the mobile wallet industry still being in its infancy there exist a few drivers of mobile wallet solutions aiming to create a de-facto standard in the mobile market. The major drivers of mobile wallets can be attributed to Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), banks and web based companies.   In this report we would compare the motive behind every driver’s intent to enter the mobile payment market and the challenges associated in providing the wallet service to the market and assimilate the similarities and differences that exist among them. The key technical aspect behind the comparative analysis involves a standard set of factors on which the analysis would be based upon. The results obtained from the comparative analysis emphasizes on the significance behind the origin of industry of each mobile payment driver. The results also enlighten the varied yet partially coinciding objectives of each mobile payment driver.   The approach adopted to conduct this research is primarily through analyzing different origin industry based mobile wallet drivers, and then generalizing the data based on the researched use case models. The comparative analysis performed is based on the generalized data obtained by studying the use case under each mobile payment driver. Further, to predict the future marketing strategy of each driver, ansoff matrix is employed to devise the roadmap. Finally the main objective of the investigation is answered, which is finding out the reasons behind the entry of different industry origin drivers into the mobile payment market and the challenges faced by them.

Nowadays, most mobile phones are equipped with multiple wireless access technologies, which allow the user to maintain connections while moving across networks (e.g. having a telephony service in GSM while moving to a WLAN area). The IEEE 802.21 Media Independent Handover (MIH) Services is a standard aiming at facilitating handover between these heterogeneous networks. In the current situation, in order for the mobile device to detect other wireless access network (e.g. WLAN), the user has to keep the WLAN interface continuously on and this will cause battery drain. With IEEE 802.21, the mobile device will have continuous access to the MIH function via a Service Access Point (SAP) on the GSM network and can hence receive information about the availability of the WLAN hot spot. The WLAN interface can then be turned on and the connection can be established.Unfortunately, the standard only provides the information for network connectivity but is incapable of supporting service continuity. More specifically, the standard does not enable the user to seamlessly change from GSM telephony to IP telephony when entering a WLAN hotspot.To remedy the situation this thesis has analysed future mobile scenarios and proposes a mobile service architecture, which enhances the availability of services at the same time as service continuity is ensured. The necessary functional entities both on the network and terminal side are identified and described. The thesis has also conducted thorough analysis and realisation of the two main elements of the mobile service architecture, namely Service Continuity and Service Discovery.To realise Service Continuity it is proposed to extend the functionality of the IEEE Media Independent Handover (MIH). More specifically, it is proposed to extend the information database with service information and to include service information in the information exchange between the mobile client and the MIH.Regarding Service Discovery it is an innovative discovery scheme capable of handling the following characteristics: Similar services with different names in different languages Different services with similar names Partially similar services No restriction regarding the name length Anybody can introduce anything as a service anytime To verify the validation of the three proposed items: The future mobile service architecture The Service Continuity The Service Discovery partial but sufficient implementations have been carried out. Consequently, it is possible to conclude that the three proposed items are both sound and feasible.

Då teknologiutvecklingen fortsätter mot en högre grad av mobilitet genom inte bara WiFi, utan även 3G och 4G, har behovet av att utvärdera extern tillgång till företagets intranät blivit allt större. För att uppskatta värdet av extern tillgång av intranät via mobila enheter är det av intresse att identifiera de förutsättningar som skapar ett lyckat mobilt intranät. Det är även viktigt att identifiera potentiella möjligheter till optimering av företagsprocesser som mobil tillgång till intranät kan skapa inom organisationer. Mobil tillgång till kritisk data, dokument eller verktyg kan hjälpa anställda ute på fält. I denna rapport utförs tre studier för att identifiera faktorer som bidrar till ett lyckat mobilt intranät. En fallstudie av ett företag som önskar nyttja mobil tillgång till sitt intranät, en studie av ett annat företags lyckade intranätsatsning samt en studie av en existerande plattform för intranätlösningar i termer om dess lämplighet som mobil intranätplattform. Observationer från dessa tre studier analyseras sedan för att identifiera områden som ett mobilt intranät behöver utmärka sig inom för att bli lyckat. De kritiska funktionerna i en vanlig intranätlösning identifieras som minst lika viktiga i det mobila sammanhanget. Dessutom ligger stor vikt i att leverera nyckelfunktioner till mobila användare. Rapporten avslutas med en formulering av en generell strategi för att utvärdera och implementera mobila intranätlösningar.
Internal private networks have long been used by companies to promote communication and information sharing through local access points. As technology proceeds towards higher mobility through not only WiFi, but also 3G and 4G telecommunication systems, the need for companies to evaluate the need for externally accessing the company intranet has become apparent. To assess the value of external access through mobile devices it is of interest to identify the prerequisites needed for a successful mobile intranet. Also of note is the potential opportunities that mobile access of intranet can create within an organizations work to optimize business processes. Mobile access to important data, documents or tools could help employees on the field. In this report three studies are made to identify factors that contribute to a successful mobile intranet; a case study of a company that wishes to utilize intranet access through mobile technologies, a study of another company’s successful intranet implementation, and a study of an existing platform for intranet solutions in terms of its potential as a mobile intranet platform. Findings from these three studies are then examined to identify areas in which a mobile intranet must excel to be successful. The critical functions of regular intranet implementations are found to be equally important in a mobile context along with the importance of delivering key functions to mobile employees. The report is concluded with a presentation of a general strategy for examining and implementing mobile intranet solutions.

We chose to write this essay about mobile commerce and what influences a consumer's buying habits within mobile commerce. We also look at how a company can implement mobile commerce. We could not find any studies that directly addressed factors that affected consumers of mobile commerce prior to this essay. This was one of the reasons that we chose to write about it. In the introductory chapter, we will discuss important issues relating to ecommerce and the use of smartphones as a tool for marketing and trade. In the methodology chapter, we explain our choice of methods for this essay. We reported on the techniques and methods to collect data that were relevant to this work and then we had a discussion about the methodological choices made. The methodology chapter ended with a presentation of our criticism about the choice of methods. In the theory chapter we describe the relevant theories on our subject. We describe some factors that could influence a consumer's purchasing behaviour, and other theories about how companies can implement mobile commerce. We then describe the material collected through surveys and interviews we conducted. This data formed the basis for the synthesis, analysis and conclusions, which we reported in the essay. In the analysis we combine theory and empirical data and then interpret the data we have collected. In the conclusion we responded to the questions we asked and gave advice to companies that are interested in introducing mobile commerce.

This research deals with the architectural integration of mobile external shielding devices with the building’s façade. In most cases these elements act as solar shading. For this reason, within the research, they are called by that name. The research mainly develops around the theme of environmental quality, strictly limited to the architectural integration of these mobile devices with the building’s façade. It concerns mainly the quality of open spaces but also of those internal. When we talk about environmental quality often it means an interest in microclimatic comfort. Recently the research tends to focus only on the energy aspects. These issues are left aside here, since the researches about energy-saving and microclimatic comfort sadly neglect some strategical aspects: in most cases the solar shading systems do not fall within an architectural design and also they may affect the appearance of places, from single side to the urban front, to the entire city. This research deals with all the main aspects of this area: history of architecture, manufacturing of solar shading systems, legislation, bibliography, software, technological and environmental design. The main goal of this research was to identify technological and architectural parameters for the choice of external dynamic shielding devices. These parameters must allow the integration of shielding devices with the building’s façade in connection with the culture and the traditions of the places. The ultimate goal of this research was to produce guidelines for architectural design and a user-friendly software. These instruments are addressed to the world of architectural design, manufacturing and sales of solar shading systems, but also to local authorities for the improvement of building regulations. Among the identified parameters the main are: color, type and dimension of the shading elements related to the buildings and their relationship with the context. On these basis, over one hundred case studies of contemporary international architecture have been analyzed. The data emerged from the analysis were developed in graphs and were compared across, producing scientific results under the form of stochastic analysis of the sample studied. The research has produced a system of guidelines dealing with the use of different façade types and different solar shading systems with specific color combinations and a software to quickly view these possible configurations.

Today, it has become conveniently possible to host Web Services (WS) on mobile node using a Mobile Web Server (MWS). To address a vast range of use cases, these hosted mobileWS may be implemented to offer synchronous and asynchronous execution styles depending upon the requirements of mobile application. Thus, the MWS actually provides the necessary architectural capabilities to handle and process incoming requests for each class of service. But, it is very vital for these servers to simplify the service access and creation mechanisms, so that, the processing overheads on the hosting node are reduced. Previously, research has shown promising optimizations in MWSprocessing by using theREST architecture style for service access and creation. However, the mobile WSoffered by the existingMWSusesXML based payload for information exchange, which restricts the incorporation of the rich multimedia content, such as, audio and video data. As a consequence, the true potential of the REST -based server architecture is not utilized. This thesis addresses architectural and transport layer issues to enable the exchange of rich multimedia content between mobile nodes using mobile WS over the live wireless data networks. The research work is focused on the implementation of multimedia streaming protocol standards, such as, the RTSPand theRTP, into the existingREST-basedMWS architecture. Also, to enable the controlled Mobile-to-Mobile (M2M) media streaming capabilities, the thesis uses both TCP and UDP as transport layer protocols for signaling and data transmission, respectively. The control functions are implemented by mapping the synchronous and asynchronous mobile WS to the RTSPmethods. The implementation extends the states of the asynchronous mobileWS to offer these multimedia control functions. The issues related to the firewalls and Network Address Translation (NAT) are addressed by the development of an Intermediate Access Gateway (IAG),which offers the functionality based on the STUNandTURN concepts. This work enables mobile WS basedM2M media streaming either through the directly established connection with the peers, or via the IAG. Thus, the developed proof-of-concept prototype demonstrates the streaming capabilities of the extended MWS architecture over any wireless data networks.

So ist die stetige Verbesserung von mobilen Geräten auch ein Gewinn für die Kartographie. Im Bereich der erweiterten Realität sind dazu schon einige Anwendungen entwickelt worden. Diese Arbeit stellt verschiedene Augmented Reality Anwendungen vor, nicht nur aus dem Gebiet der Kartographie, sondern aus allen Lebensbereichen. Ein besonderes Augenmerk soll dabei auf der Anwendung mit mobilen Endgeräten liegen. Entstanden ist aus dieser Arbeit ein Campusführer, der nur die Namen der Gebäude anzeigt, welche der Nutzer von seiner Position aus auch tatsächlich sehen kann. Hierfür werden in der Arbeit Sichtbarkeitsanalysen im Allgemeinen und im Speziellen für GIS-Programme untersucht und vorgestellt. Auch die Beschriftung im dreidimensionalen Raum und auf dem Bildschirm von mobilen Geräten wird überblickshaft dargestellt. Abschließend wird der Campusführer getestet und bewertet sowie ein Fazit zum Thema Augmented Reality auf mobilen Endgeräten gegeben
Undreamed-of possibilities in many areas of life and also in different economic sectors emerge owing to the rapid enhancement of technology. The constant advancement of mobile devices is also a gain for cartography. In this field some augmented reality applications have already been developed. In this thesis some augmented reality applications, not only with cartographic references, are introduced. Special attention is paid to their use on mobile devices. Furthermore a campus-guide is developed, which only displays the points of interest actually seen from the user's position. For this purpose the concept of viewsheds is introduced and examined both in general terms and especially in the use of GIS-programs. The labeling in a three-dimensional scene and on the screen of mobile devices is shortly discussed as well. Moving on, the campus-guide is tested and evaluated. Also a conclusion on the topic of augmented reality with mobile devices is given

This thesis has compared the Mobile IPv4 and Mobile IPv6 to find out which of them performs better when it comes to send datagram from the correspondent node to the mobile node. The tests that were made to measure performance were latency, TCP/UDP throughput, loss and delay, as well as time measurement for connectivity loss for the mobile node while roaming. The tests were done using Cisco equipments and Microsoft Windows 7 Professional OS. Due to the hardware and software used, the route of datagram was the same in both scenarios since Cisco routers and Microsoft Windows 7 OS does not support route optimization for Mobile IPv6. The results showed that Mobile IPv4 performed better in all the tests done.

In this dissertation, we first present statistical models for cascaded Rayleigh Isotropic fading channels with and without line-of-sight (LOS). These models contain two individual summations and are, therefore, easy to implement with lower complexity. Detailed statistical properties, including auto- and cross-correlations of the in-phase, quadrature components of the channels, envelopes, and squared envelopes are derived. The time-average statistical properties and the corresponding variance are also investigated to justify that the proposed models achieve good convergence performance. Then, we present mobile-to-mobile (M2M) channel measurements at 2.1GHz and 700MHz bands in suburban and forest environments. Four test scenarios are considered for the transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx) placed inside traveling vehicles or on a test cart pushed at a walking speed. Channel models are proposed for path loss, shadowing, small-scale fading based on measurements. The path loss exponents were found between 1.2 to 7.7, and the reference path loss is found larger due to the placement of antenna inside vehicle. The mean of shadowing is close to 0, and the variance varies from 1.8 to 4.9. Measurements suggest that small-scale fading follows distributions of the Weibull and cascaded Rayleigh with LOS. The level crossing rate and average fading duration are also justified using the measurements. Finally, we extend the work to study Non-Isotropic channels. New models are proposed based on cascaded Rayleigh with NLOS and LOS. We derived its statistical properties similarly to was done for the Isotropic channels. The mean absolute errors was adopted to verify the performance. Power spectrum analysis brought additional insight on this kind of channels.

Mobile media are quickly becoming primary sources of communication in everyday life. With this progress, comes the ability to experience an array of different degrees and types of presence. Individuals can be both in the physical presence of others as well as present with others at a distance by experiencing telepresence. This study examined the role of mobile media in the context of romantic relationships. It looked at the relationship between the senses of intimacy and telepresence as they were experienced by individuals. The theories of apparatgeist and perpetual contact were employed to describe the relationship between the nature of the technology, the associated behavior of its use, and the experience of various forms of telepresence. Interviews with fourteen participants provided the data analyzed in this qualitative study. These interviews were transcribed and used for a thematic analysis of presence and intimacy experience. The results describe a wide variance and nuanced reality of how individuals sense the presence of each other through mobile technology. These results contribute to an understanding of how individuals understand and talk about their experience of telepresence and also what it means to them in their personal lives.

Diploma thesis deals with mobile applications for policyholders in the segment of general insurance. Aims of thesis are to create an analysis of existing applications on market in the Czech Republic, reveal their shortcomings, design a new application and then create it and make it available for policyholders of all insurers. The first chapter of thesis contains definition of basic terms that are used later in text. Analysis of existing applications is the content of second chapter. It is based on examination of functions of existing applications and the reviews from users and experts. Design of the new application is described in chapter three and is included as a runnable HTML prototype on the attached disk. Description of implemented application is included in the next part of the third chapter and application itself is available for download from Google Play and can also be found on the attached disk. The main benefits of thesis are the analysis of mobile insurance applications market, the new application available for all policyholders, and some recommendations resulting from re-search for companies intending to produce their own application.

Background: In an increasingly market-driven and global higher education industry, characterized by growing international competition and the emergence of disruptive mobile technologies, higher education institutions (HEIs) are challenged to adopt innovative ways of marketing for student recruitment to sustain student enrollment numbers. Within this new landscape the concept of mobile marketing for student recruitment has become an important issue for HEIs. Mobile devices are playing an increasingly significant role in the decision-making process of potential students and this trend has created the need to adopt new forms of marketing through mobile devices to stay relevant with a new mobile generation of students. Purpose: Despite the growing significance of mobile marketing for HEIs, little is still known about the phenomenon of mobile marketing for student recruitment within a higher education setting. Hence, the purpose of this thesis was to fill this knowledge gap by exploring how and why mobile marketing can be used during the student recruitment process from the perspective of education-marketing practitioners. Method: The research gap addressed in this thesis called for existing mobile marketing concepts to be introduced to the field of higher education marketing. Hence, in alignment with abductive reasoning, the starting point of the research was the creation of a theoretical framework that integrates theory on mobile marketing tools with the student recruitment process. Subsequently, through a collective case study design, exploratory qualitative research was undertaken amongst ten universities and four education-marketing agencies to learn about exemplary cases of mobile marketing practice in HEIs. Empirical data was collected from semi-structured interviews with 16 informants, as well as relevant documents to gain a rich understanding of the phenomenon of mobile marketing for recruiting new students. Results & Contribution: This thesis extends the higher education marketing literature by making a first contribution towards conceptualising mobile marketing for student recruitment. The empirical study revealed ten major categories of mobile student recruitment tactics to engage with potential students on mobile devices, and provides new insights on how and for what purpose these tools can be used to recruit new students. Furthermore, a conceptual model of mobile marketing for student recruitment was developed, which helps to understand how mobile marketing can be applied to the student recruitment process. The study is particularly relevant for education marketers, as it provides practitioners with new knowledge about the opportunities presented by mobile marketing channels to communicate with their main target audience. Specifically, the study provides empirical evidence of mobile marketing practices in the industry and a set of specific recommendations. Additionally, the new model may provide a framework for developing a mobile recruitment strategy for HEIs.

Conception of mobility and mobile workplace is analyzing into theoretic part of Master Thesis. Survey of devices and software for installing of mobile workplace, Lithuanian companies inculcated mobile decisions are presented as well. Objective of practical part is fit-out of mobile workplace in Stock company ��Siauliu energija”. Activity of company’s departments was analyzed for this objective achieving and was found that “mobile” and “manual” work is mostly conspicuous in subscription office, where work nature determines that workers most of time spend not in company, but outside. Exactly for this reason subscription office was chosen for fit-out of mobile workplace. After comprehensive analysis of subscription office work few prototypes of task solution were created, from which workers chose their mobile workplace device - Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). For this device with installed Palm OS operating system was written program for input of indications from Thermal registers, module for data transfer from PDA to desk computer and these data import to existing accounting system. There were calculated possibilities and time of this technology payback and future alternatives for getting data from thermal registers were reviewed. The results gained from literature analysis and at stage of programmable product creation are basis for conclusions and suggestions, which form the last part of the Thesis.

L'idea in questione si basa su un'applicazione Mobile per Android ed il conseguente progetto si articola su un portale di gestione di eventi (MiRambla) del quale l'app rappresenta una sua estensione. Tramite diversi step tra i quali descrizione del mondo social mobile, analisi, progettazione e sviluppo di affronterà tutto il lavoro che sta dietro alla creazione di quest'applicazione.

Dagens teknik har bidragit till att mobiltelefonens användningsområden har expanderat avsevärt de senaste åren. Detta har lett till att alltfler mobila tjänster har dykt upp på marknaden. Uppgiften i detta examensarbete består i att utveckla en version anpassad för mobiltelefoner av den existerande produkten TelMe, som är en webbtjänst för vikarietillsättning inom olika verksamheter. Den mobilanpassade versionen kommer att gå under namnet TelMe Mobile. Problemställningen var att implementera de väsentliga funktionerna i produkten med avsikt för att göra dessa tillgängliga för mobiltelefoner. För att hitta en lösning till problemställningen har följande frågeställningar formulerats; hur kan webbtjänsten TelMe anpassas till en mobiltelefon, hur kan innehållet presenteras i en mobiltelefon på ett användarvänligt sätt, hur kan dataflödet reduceras samt hur implementeras de tekniska lösningarna för TelMe Mobile? Eftersom utveckling för mobiltelefoner kräver ett helt annat tankesätt, samlades information om mobila webbapplikationer från officiella organisationer. Begränsningar i mobiltelefoner som t.ex. skärmstorlek, bandbredd och förhållandevis underlägsen hårdvara innebär att webbapplikationen måste vara enkel och inte resurskrävande. Med hänsyn till ovanstående restriktioner måste TelMe designas om och följa denna enkla struktur. Webbapplikationen måste ha en enkelkolumnig layout på grund av mobiltelefoners relativt mindre skärmstorlekar. På grund av den begränsade bandbredden och minneskapaciteten för mobiltelefoner är det viktigt att datamängden inte är för stor. För att reducera datamängden för varje sida måste antalet rader med information minskas. Användning av bilder för layouten kan bidra till en ökning av datamängden, därför bör mindre eller inga bilder utnyttjas. Den tekniska lösningen för TelMe Mobile har implementerats som en separat sida för mobiltelefoner medan TelMe är avsedd för datorer. Implementeringen genomfördes med hjälp av XHTML Mobile Profile 1.0 och eFrog Builder. W3C:s riktlinjer för mobil webbutveckling har följts för att säkerställa TelMe Mobiles kompatibilitet med ett brett utbud av mobiltelefoner. Kompatibiliteten kan dock inte garanteras med alla mobiltelefoner på grund av den breda variationen av mobila plattformar. TelMe Mobile har testats på ett antal olika mobiltelefoner med de vanligast förekommande plattformarna. Webbapplikationen har även testats på Opera Mini, som är en populär tredjepartswebbläsare med bra stöd för den mobila webben. Mobilvänligheten för TelMe Mobile har validerats på http://ready.mobi, vilket kontrollerar webbapplikationen gentemot W3C:s standarder för mobil webbutveckling.

This report describes a master thesis performed at SICS (Swedish Institute of Computer Science) and KTH (The Royal Institute of Technology) in Stockholm. Ajax stands for "Asynchronous JavaScript and XML" and it's not a programming language, but a suite of technologies used to develop web applications with more interactivity than the traditional web pages. Ajax applications can be adapted for mobile and constrained devices. This has been called Mobile Ajax. While the technique is the same, Mobile Ajax generally is considered to be a special case of Ajax, because it deals with problems specific to the mobile market. The purpose of this thesis has been to examine which possibilities and disadvantages has the Mobile Ajax from developers and users perspective. In addition we compare Mobile Ajax with Java Micro Edition (Java ME) and Flash Lite. This has been done through literature studies and development of a databased chat client (MAIM -Mobile Ajax Instant Messenger). The application sends and receives direct messages in real time between differently mobile devices. Then MAIM application has been compared with our own developed Java ME and Flash Lite chat clients. We have tested all three applications with different models of mobile devices and on different web browsers. The results have shown that mobile Ajax makes possible the creation of sophisticated and dynamic mobile web applications and is better than the classic web application model, but this requires that the mobile device has a modern and compatible web browser like Opera mobile.
Denna rapport beskriver ett examensarbete utfört på SICS (Swedish Institute of Computer Science) och KTH (Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan) i Stockholm. My project creates spaces for common use, reclaiming a little left-over piece of the city landscape. The mobile culture house unfolds and fragments in interaction with the places it encounters. It is flexible, multi-use and respectful of the surrounding environment. I have attempted to answer to questions concerning the development of the city of Stockholm in times of escalating urbanization and galloping housing shortage when unreflected densification risks to erase diversity, cause gentrification and reinforce segregation. I have investigated the existing flora of small, urban grass-root, resistance movements and I have added my own contribution to the set.
Mitt projekt skapar utrymmen för gemensamt bruk genom att återta en liten bit av stadslandskapet. Det mobila kulturhuset vecklar ut och fragmenterar sig i samspel med de platser som det möter. Det är flexibelt, multi-use och respektfullt mot den omgivande miljön. Jag har försökt att svara på frågor som behandlar utvecklingen av Stockholms stad en tid av ökande urbanisering och galopperande bostadsbrist när oreflekterad förtätning riskerar att radera mångfalden, orsaka gentrifiering och förstärka segregationen. Jag har undersökt den nuvarande floran av små, ​​urbana gräsrots-motståndsrörelser, och jag har lagt mitt eget bidrag till uppsättningen.

This thesis develops techniques and methods that extend the art and craft of storytelling, and in particular enable the creation of mobile cinema. Stories are always constrained by the medium in which they are told and the mode by which they are delivered to an audience. This dissertation addresses the design of content, systems, and tools that facilitate the emerging type of computational audio-visual narrative that we call mobile cinema. Storytelling in this medium requires temporally and spatially encoded narrative segments that are delivered over a wireless channel to mobile devices such as PDAs and mobile phones. These devices belong to "the audience," individuals who are navigating physical space and interact with local circumstances in the environment. This thesis examines the underlying requirements for coherent mobile narrative and explores two particular challenges which must be solved in order to make a reliable and scalable stream of content for mobile cinema: technology uncertainty (the fact that what the mobile cinema system presents may not be what the creator intends) and participation uncertainty (the fact that what the audience does may not be what the creator expects). The exploration and analysis of these problems involved prototyping two versions of the M-Views system for mobile cinema and three prototype cinematic narratives. Small user studies accompanied each production. The iterative process enabled the author to explore both aspects of uncertainty and to introduce innovations in four key areas to help address these uncertainties: practical location detection, authoring tools designed for mobile channels, responsive story presentation mechanisms, and creative story production strategies.

Kunderna kräver mer information och responsiva företag, och företagen måste anpassa sig för att hålla kunderna nöjda.Det bästa sättet att möta de nya kraven på är att använda sig av ny teknologi, och främst mobilapplikationer. Det här arbetet fokuserar på marknaden för servicetekniker och hur de företagen kan bygga bättre relationer till sina kunder. Vi har valt att lösa det här problemet genom att utveckla en mobilapplikation där servicetekniker och kunder kan dela nödvändig information. Applikationen ska inte bara möta kravet på snabb respons från teknikerna och deras arbetsgivare, utan även underlätta arbetet för teknikerna.
The fast-paced technological development has created new customer behaviours and needs. Consumers are demanding that information is available at all times and that companies improve their ways of communication. Companies have to adapt to this new need to keep their customers satisfied. The easiest and cheapest way to achieve this is to use new technology, such as mobile applications.In this project we have focused on how companies operating in the service technician market can build better relationships with their customers, and at the same time provide information that the technicians may need in the field. We have created a mobile application where technicians and customers can share information about for example order status. This helps to build better relationships and helps technicians in their everyday tasks.

Internetin, Informaatiojärjestelmien, sekä matkapuhelimien nopea yleistyminen ja kehittyminen ovat nopeasti mahdollistaneet joukkouttamisen soveltamisen uudenlaisiin sovelluksiin. Tässä työssä kehitettiin mobiilisovellus, joka mahdollistaa subjektiivisen tiedon keräämisen joukkouttamisen avulla sekä päätöksenteon tukemisen joukkoutetun tiedon avulla. Työ laajentaa aiemmin kehitettyä joukkoälyalustaa tukemalla etenkin paikkasidonnaisen tiedon keräämistä. Tämä kandidaatintyö esittelee aluksi taustakirjallisuutta joukkoälystä sekä päätöksenteon tukijärjestelmistä. Seuraavaksi työ esittelee AnswerBot Mobilen, joka on yksi maailman ensimmäisistä Androidpuhelimille kehitetyistä joukkoälyyn perustuvista päätöksenteon tukityökaluista. Lopulta työ esittelee AnserBot Mobilen käyttäjäkokeiden tulokset sekä pohtii koko työn saavutuksia, onnistumisia ja epäonnistumisia. Crowdsourcing refers to breaking down a task and distributing it in smaller chunks to a large labor force. The development of Internet, information systems and especially the proliferation of smartphones have enabled leveraging crowdsourcing in many new application scenarios. In this thesis we created a mobile application that leverages crowdsourcing to collect subjective information and supports decision making based on the collected information. The application extends an existing crowdsourcing platform by facilitating situated data collection on mobile devices. This thesis first presents related literature on wisdom of the crowd and decision support systems. After that, this thesis introduces the design and implementation of AnswerBot Mobile, that is one of the first Android applications to leverage crowds’ collective intelligence in supporting decision-making. Finally, the thesis reviews user test results and discusses the accomplishments, successes and failures we encountered during the work. The biggest contribution of our work is facilitating crowdsourcing of situated and subjective knowledge on a mobile platform. The user tests uncovered improvement ideas for AnswerBot Mobile and for the already existing crowdsourcing platform that the developed application is an extension of

At any given time, approximately 4% of women in the United States are pregnant. Planned or unplanned, pregnancy changes the lives, mentalities, and bodies of women. Health and care are not only limited to the mother, but now extends out to the child as well. Pregnant women and their children require specialized care before and after the birth but sometimes these services can be difficult to locate, attend, and maintain. Mobile Mother aims to provide expecting mothers with top prenatal and postnatal services conveniently by bringing the clinic to them. The mission is to provide accessible, valuable, and quality care to pregnant women who have limited transportation, access to care, scheduling and time, or simply choose to not attend traditional maternity clinics in hospitals. Mobile Mother's goal is to deliver the best, convenient maternity care to expecting mothers in the Greater Los Angeles area. This proposal will provide detailed insight on how Mobile Mother aims to achieve these goals.

This research concerns the Mobile payment, which is a new scheme of payment: execution of payment transactions where the consent of the payer to execute a payment transaction is given by means of any telecommunication, digital or IT device and the payment is made to the telecommunication, IT system or network operator, acting only as an intermediary between the payment service user and the supplier of the goods and services, or payment transactions executed by means of any telecommunication, digital or IT device, where the goods or services purchased are delivered to and are to be used through a telecommunication, digital or IT device, provided that the telecommunication, digital or IT operator does not act only as an intermediary between the payment service user and the supplier of the goods and services. The research tries to verify the compatibility of the financial values communicated from such innovative system of payment (i.e. phone credit) with the general categories, especially with the notion of legal money (art. 1277 c.c.) in its known and currently diffused forms: coin, banking and electronic money. Because of the fact that the "phone credit" is only a representative value of the price of the phone service used by the customer and provided by the telephone operator, according to the Author it is necessary to distinguish two kinds of phone credit: 1) pre-paid form (subscriber pre-funds its account with the provider of the electronic communications network or service): nulla quaestio, because in this case the monetary values represent the result of the connection established between the phone account and banking (or postal) account; in such case, it is almost certain the nature of the phone credit, which is banking or electronic money; 2) post-paid form (subscriber to the network or service): it is necessary to distinguish between two different kind of recharges. In the first case (phone credit recharged by bank, post and Imel) it seems quite certain that phone credit is banking or electronic money; on the other hand, it is also certain that the these values, “once converted in phone credit”, are burdened by a tie of destination, that should not allow their generalized use (i.e. to buy every kind of goods). In the case of a direct recharge (i.e. without bank, post or Imel), credit fund is not banking money because of the fact that a TELCO is not a bank. And it is neither electronic money, in spite of there being many points of similarity with such kind of money. In fact, art. 1 TUB co. 1, lett. h-ter) is an insurmountable obstacle, and it’s not possible to say that credit phone is legal money because of the nature of subjects involved in the recharge procedure: TELCO still are commercial companies, so they are not allowed to send forth electronic money. In conclusion, the exact nature of the financial values communicated from Mobile Payment (i.e. phone credit) is uncertain, and more in the case of a direct charge. These values, neither electronic, neither banking, seems to place in a sort of so called "monetary limbo", having points of contact and divergence with all kind of currently diffused money. According to the Author, these values are becoming a further monetary species, i.e. phone money, because of the fact that the range of goods and services that it is possible to buy by these value, is constantly increasing.
