ABSTRACT Introduction The aim of this study was to quantify the extent of donor-cell-derived myogenesis achieved by a novel surgical technique known as Minimally Invasive Muscle Embedding (MIME). Materials and Methods Through MIME, we implanted a single extensor digitorum longus muscle from donor mice (N = 2) that expressed a red fluorescent protein (RFP), into the left tibialis anterior (TA) muscle of immunodeficient host mice (N = 4) that expressed a green fluorescent protein (GFP). Soon after MIME, we injected a myotoxin (barium chloride), into the host TA muscle, to trigger concerted muscle degeneration and regeneration. In lieu of MIME, we performed a SHAM procedure on the right TA muscle of the same set of animals. Results In MIME-treated muscles, 22% ± 7% and 78% ± 7% muscle fibers were RFP+ and GFP+, respectively (mean ± standard deviation); and all RFP+ fibers were positive for desmin and dystrophin. Conclusion. We conclude that MIME helps generate muscle fibers of donor origin, in host muscle.

In the twentieth century, French theatre was dramatically transformed by a reconsideration of the possibilities of mime. However, Samuel Beckett's three early mimes, "Dreamer's Mime A" and and , have not been identified with this phenomenon. This essay argues that rather than being eccentric works, these early mimes were crucial in Beckett's development of a decidedly corporeal dramatic aesthetic. In this respect, he has much in common with his French contemporaries Jacques Copeau and Jean-Louis Barrault, who, through a broadly conceived notion of mime, sought to return the body to the stage.

The Polish version of the article was published in Roczniki Humanistyczne vol. 61, issue 3 (2013). The aim of this article is to discover the literary context for Horace’s Epode 12 by juxtaposing it with Herondas’ mimes, particularly Mime 5, titled The Jealous Woman. The description of the relationship between these works is based on the ancient theory of rhetoric and on elements of Horace’s Ars poetica. It has been established that Epode 12 has numerous features of the literary mime: it is an apparent dialogue (sermocinatio, παρῳδή) recited by a single performer (mime), most probably in the scenery of an ancient feast. A participant in the feast becomes an actor, who first performs the role of a male lover (iuvenis) and then the role of a superannuated female lover (mulier). These character types are typical of both Old and New Comedy styles, but the whole dramatic setting seems to bear the greatest resemblance to Mime 5, in which the same literary protagonists are found in a scene analogous to a lovers’ quarrel. On the one hand, specific rhetorical figures (imitatio / μίμησις) indicate that the literary original was used in a creative manner. On the other, Mime 5 can also be used in the interpretation of Epode 12. This interpretation can be built on the processes of liberation and subjugation as part of the lovers’ relationship (actual subjugation in Mime 5 and metaphorical—financial—in Epode 12, where the iuvenis is the mulier’s “kept man”).

Histories of mime largely overlook one of the most remarkable theatrical phenomena of the eighteenth and early nineteenth century: the ballet-pantomime. In contrast, it is widely discussed in dance history circles, as if there were a tacit understanding that only one half of this hyphenated art mattered: the ballet rather than the pantomime. This article explores the mime component of the ballet-pantomime in order to compare and contrast it with modern mime, especially Etienne Decroux's principles and practices. Through the works of Noverre particularly (since Decroux declares himself an admirer), but with reference also to other famous and less famous eighteenth-century choreographers and dancers, Edward Nye discusses five aspects of mime: use of the body, mime and dance, mime and language, objective and subjective mime, and pedagogy. He finds differences as well as similarities between modern and eighteenth-century mime, but overall argues that there is no reason to exclude the ballet-pantomime from histories of mime. Edward Nye is Fellow of Lincoln College, Oxford, and University Lecturer in French. He has published on seventeenth- and eighteenth-century subjects in French literature and the arts, notably Literary and Linguistic Theories in Eighteenth-Century France (OUP, 2000), and on the literary aesthetics of sports writing, in A Bicyclette (Les Belles Lettres, 2000), and of dance, in Danse et littérature; sur quel pied danser? (ed., Rodopi, 2003).

Penggunaan teknologi mobile sudah menjadi kebutuhan keseharian bagi banyak orang sehingga tidak mengherankan jika jumlah pengguna teknologi mobile terus meningkat. Kehadiran teknologi mobile telah menjadi peluang tersendiri bagi pemilik bisnis untuk memanfaatkan teknologi tersebut dalam mendukung kegiatan bisnis terutama bisnis penjualan. Sistem mobile marketplace dengan model business to customer dapat membantu para pemilik usaha untuk menjual produk mereka ke konsumen. Masyakat sebagai konsumen menggunakan smartphone untuk melakukan pembelian terhadap produk pada sistem mobile marketplace. Berdasarkan pengujian Cross-Browser, telah dihasilkan tampilan yang sesuai dengan informasi dari pada sistem tersebut sekalipun dibuka dengan browser yang berbeda. Selanjutnya pengujian Web Page Performance menghasilkan MIME type request yang menunjukkan tipe yang ada didalam website. Semakin banyak data yang ada pada setiap tipe maka dalam request akan semakin lama, hal ini bisa dilihat MIME Type images. Sedangkan pada bagian MIME Type Bytes memperlihatkan bahwa setiap type memiliki ukuran masing-masing. Semakin besar MIMI Type maka akan memiliki byte yang besar. Secara keseluruhan, sistem mobile marketplace memiliki kecepatan yang baik karena MIME type request menunjukkan angkat yang kecil. Hasil penelitian ini adalah aplikasi mobile marketplace yang dapat dipergunakan dengan baik pada perangkat mobile untuk mencari informasi dan melakukan transaksi. Cette these est un expose des principes fondamentaux du mime corporel selon etienne decroux, et non une description detaillee de ses exercices et figures. La premiere partie constitue un resume historique de la pantomime depuis les origines. Les caracteres particuliers de l'ancienne pantomime sont soulignes afin de mieux pouvoir ensuite definir, en opposition, ceux du mime corporel. La seconde partie est un survol de la carriere de decroux. La troisieme partie contient plusieurs chapitres consacres a la doctrine : le rejet de l'ancienne pantomime ; l'idee que le mime es un art ; la primaute du corps ; la conception de l'acteur ; l'attitude de decroux envers son public. La quatrieme partie est consacree a la creation et a la recherche. La cinquieme etudie les realisations. Elle expose la conception que se fait decroux du realisme, puis les genres et les sujets, et se termine par l'etude du style. La derniere partie regroupe une serie d'entretiens avec huit "heritiers" de decroux. La conclusion met en relief le role de l'ethique dans l'esthetique decrousienne, la profondeur des rapports unissant decroux a son siecle, le lien du mime corporel avec la tradition
This is a thesis on the fundamental principles of corporeal mime according to etienne decroux. The author would like to emphasize that this is not a detailed description of exercices and figures. Part one covers the early history of pantomime and outlines the characteristics of the original art form to give, in juxtaposition, definition to corporeal mime. Part two is an overview of decroux's career. Part three consists of several chapters devoted to the decrousian doctrine : the rejection of original pantomime ; the concept of mime as art ; the importance of the body ; decroux's concept of the actor and his attitude toward the audience. Part four takes a look at his productions and his methods of research. Part five studies his accomplishments and illuminates his ideas on realism, as well as his usage of comedy and drama, his choice of subjects, and his style. The conclusion brings into relief : 1) the role of ethics in decroux's aesthetic ; 2) how profoundly decroux is a reflection of his era and ; 3)the relation of corporeal mime with oriental tradition

In this thesis, the architecture of an application-level Internet-fax gateway to facilitate multimedia messaging and to extend Internet services to the home or office is presented. We propose the use of the latest developments in the facsimile and Internet worlds, notably BFT support for Group3 protocols and MIME, for the exchange of multimedia messages (documents) between both environments as well as providing Internet e-mail, file transfer and Internet news services to fax users. Such services would be of most benefit to Internet novices and those users who do not have access to Internet via dialup/SLIP or Freenet facilities. The gateway services would allow a smooth transition into the widespread proliferation of multimedia communications. Implementation of such a gateway would make multimedia at home a very practical reality. A remote printer server, whose functionality is a subset of the proposed multimedia fax-Internet gateway was configured and setup at the MCRLab. This server became operational on February 3, 1994 and covers the local calling areas of the Ottawa/Hull region. This exercise gave us better insight into the practical aspects of the Internet Remote Printing Experiment. Further, a demo for inbound multimedia messaging was developed using the Binary File Transfer extensions to CCITT Group3 facsimile. This prototype serves as a proof of concept for the proposed gateway services.

Theatre in Ancient Greece developed into four dramatic genres: tragedy, comedy, satyrical drama and mime. Mime is the comic genre which was born in Dorian Greece, developed in Sicily and which development continues until the Hellenistic period. Although it is an important part of the ancient Greece dramatic art, up to now there was no systematic research on this type of theatre. This study aims at exploring that unknown dramatic genre. Its main objectives is the search for its origins, historical evolution and relationship (similarities and differences) with the other genres of dramatic art, as well as for its major creators

Part one of this thesis investigates the conceptualisation of the performer-creator and its relevance in late twentieth century physical performance by examining some of the theoretical, but mainly artistic, traditions that suggest a movement towards this. Chapter one tackles the question of definition, linking mime within a wider physical theatre phenomenon. Chapter two looks at the importance of mime training for contemporary performance. This requires a focus on selected theatre practitioners who have significantly advanced the development of mime training and performance during the twentieth century. Chapter three examines the issue of silence in mime and questions a potential liberation of the word and language in contemporary performance and consequently how this affects the role of the performer, particularly in South Africa. Chapter four investigates the figure of the theatrical clown and how this late twentieth century development is playing an increasingly important role in contemporary performance. Chapter five then wraps up part one by pulling the preceding chapters together and thereby providing a working conceptualisation of the performer-creator, locating it within an overall appreciation of contemporary mime. Part two then tests the notion of the performer-creator by focussing on a case study through the investigation of Andrew Buckland to develop this idea. Andrew Buckland, and his work under the ethos of Mouthpeace from 1988-2000, provides a clear and unique example of this movement in contemporary South African performance. Trained as an actor and in classical illusion-based mime technique, as well as many dance forms such as ballet, contemporary and jazz, he has virtually single-handedly created and shaped a particular performance trend that is in line with contemporary international trends but retains a distinctive South African flavour. There is no space to attempt a definitive or exhaustive examination of his works, and nor is the intent to do so; rather, the aim is to draw from his work their essences that reveal his development as an artist: as both a creator and a performer.

This doctoral thesis comprises three distinct yet related projects which investigate interdisciplinary practice across: music collaboration; mime performance; and corporate communication. Both the processes and underpinning research of these projects explore, expose and exploit areas where disparate and apparently conflicting fields of professional practice successfully and effectively; intersect, interact, and inform each other - rather than conflict - thereby enhancing each, both individually and collectively. Informed by three decades of professional practice across: music; stage performance; television; corporate communication; design; and tertiary education, the three projects have produced innovative, creative, and commercial viable outcomes, manifest in a variety of media including: music; written text; digital, audio/visual; and internet. In exploring new practice and creating new knowledge, these project outcomes clearly demonstrate the value and effectiveness of reconciling disparate fields of practice through the application of inter-disciplinary creativity and innovation to professional practice.

Last year the design and implementation of a secure World Wide Web based data sharing tool which could enable geographically remote contractor teams to access flight and test telemetry data securely over the Internet was presented [1]. Key technologies facilitating this capability were the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) capable web browsers and web servers. This year the applicability of the Secure Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension (S/MIME) specification is being evaluated for the transport of telemetry data via secure E-mail.

Les Objectifs de cette Thèse sont : 1. Proposer un cadre général pour l'ingénierie de l'évolution de méthodes, 2. Proposer un méta-modèle générique de méthodes capable de décrire la plupart des méthodes d'ingénierie de SI. Ce méta-modèle permet de venir à bout du problème de la diversité des méthodes évoqué ci-dessus. Notre approche d'évolution sera entièrement basée sur ce méta- modèle. 3. Définir une démarche de rétro-ingénierie de méthodes permettant de formaliser les modèles de produit et de processus d'une méthode informelle ou mal définie. 10 Introduction MIME (Méthode d'Ingénierie de Méthodes par Evolution) 4. Définir une démarche pour l'ingénierie de méthodes par évolution. L'objectif de cette démarche est d'assister l'ingénieur de méthodes dans toutes les étapes du projet d'évolution d'une méthode. 5. Cette thèse s'inscrit dans le domaine de l'ingénierie des méthodes de développement des systèmes d'information, elle s'intéresse particulièrement à la problématique de l'ingénierie de l'évolution des méthodes. Ce besoin apparaît pour tenir compte des changements continuels de l'environnement de SI de l'apparition de nouvelles technologies de développement ou de nouveaux besoins d'ingénierie. Pour résoudre ce problème nous proposons une nouvelle Méthode d'Ingénierie de Méthodes par Evolution (MIME), cette méthode a pour objectif d'assister l'ingénieur de méthodes dans les différentes étapes du projet d'évolution d'une méthode. MIME propose un modèle de processus contextuel et multi-démarches proposant différentes manières de conduire l'évolution selon la situation d'ingénierie de la méthodes et les objectifs d'évolution. Pour montrer la faisabilité de la méthode MIME, elle a été appliquée pour l'évolution de la méthode industrielle Lyee.

Le projet "laban-decroux" consiste en l'application de la cinetographie laban a l'apprentissage du mime corporel et a la preservation de l'oeuvre d'etienne decroux. L'evaluation de la pertinence de cette application a ete l'etape initiale. Aujourd'hui, le bilan theorique du projet de notation du mime corporel nous permet de tirer des conclusions sur sa faisabilite et de definir les conditions de sa realisation. La tradition du mime corporel a ete exploree, afin d'etablir les pratiques, les materiaux "mouvement" et les repertoires qui, transmis et preserves, seraient le fondement materiel de cette pratique spectaculaire, en dehors et au-dela du discours. Cette exploration s'appuie sur notre experience, en tant qu'eleve et enseignant, en tant qu'interprete de pieces nouvelles ou transmises ou reconstruites a partir de documents video, et enfin en tant que notateur et directeur d'acteurs. Sont consideres d'une part, les risques et les avantages des moyens de transmission et de memorisation du mouvement utilises actuellement et, d'autre part, ceux impliques par la cinetographie laban. Le plus grand avantage de cette methode d'analyse et de notation du mouvement est l'implication physique necessaire a la traduction des cinetogrammes. Ceci nous permet d'esperer que la realisation du projet " laban-decroux " ouvrira aux acteurs en formation une voie nouvelle de comprehension et de memorisation du mouvement, propice avant tout au rappel musculaire indispensable a la renovation du theatre par la voie du corps, dont decroux est un des pionniers
The "laban-decroux" project encompasses laban's kinetography application to the learning process of corporal mime and the preservation of etienne decroux' works. Today, and after evaluating the relevance of this application on the initial process of the study, this dissertation allows us to draw conclusions on the feasibility of this project, as well as on the conditions needed for its fulfillment. Presently, we have explored the tradition of corporal mime beyond its words and discourses in order to establish the practice and elements of its "movement" repertoires, which transmitted and preserved, would determine the material foundation of this scenic art. This exploration is based on personal experience as student and teacher, as interpreter of new or transmitted pieces and video reconstructions, and finally, as assessor and director. The risks and advantages of the actual conveyance methods as well as movement memorization are evaluated, as compared with those of laban's kinetography. The most striking advantage of this analyzing-and-notation method is the physical implication required for the translation of movement scores. Therefore, we might expect that the realization of this project will expose upcoming generations of actors to a new approach of movement comprehension and memorization, which favors the muscular rendition indispensable for the renovation of theater by means of the body-where decroux is one of the pioneers
