Testo completoThis research work deals with Caribbean literature and more precisely with the issue of narration. A literary corpus will be used to study migrations and amalgamations within societies living in Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. Caribbean writers have always been very concerned with History, and their attempts to describe their own society have been a constant phenomenon since the early 20th century. Thanks to this thesis, we will try to see whether all the contributions brought along via migratory movements toward, inward and outward Caribbean have been acknowledged by the culture of the host countries. The study is divided in three parts: the first will present the concepts and the historical background alluded to in the novels and short stories, the second will consist in a textual analysis, the third will focus on some authors' points of view. Marta Rojas, Luis López Nieves and Marcio Veloz Maggiolo have been asked five questions about Caribbean literature, their own oeuvre and their sources of inspiration. Thanks to their answers, we will try to figure whether nowadays Caribbean literature should be considered as one or many

Testo completoThe present research focuses on authors who, in the context of contemporary migrations, write in Italian even though they have a different mother tongue or they are bilingual. We aim at showing in which way these works, written in a language other than one's own, can illustrate the notion of ostranenie (that is, turning what is familiar into something strange and foreign) introduced by the Russian formalists to describe artistic creation. We carry out textual analysis along three main dimensions, corresponding to the three section of this work: the multilinguism, the evolution of literary genres, the importance of the literary work in relation to the world. In the first part (Italian Babel, chs. 1, 2, and 3), we analyze the linguistic thread of these texts, in order to see in what way and for what reasons these authors create a literary language through the relation between Italian and a different language. In the second part (Writings, Narrations and Poetics, chs. 4, 5, and 6), we consider the context of these writings, as well as of genres and narrative forms, seeking patterns of composition underpinning the poetics of these authors under different literary traditions and power systems allowing for the emergence of authors and texts. Finally, in the third part (The Conflicts of Narration, chs. 7, 8, and 9), we draw the consequences of linguistic and narrative choices at work in the texts we researched. The observation of the images and the ideologies promoted carries us to the questions lying across these texts. Such consequences offer opposing viewpoints both on current Italian society and on the place of the subject in a postcolonial perspective
Soloviova-Horville, Daniela. "Du vampire slave au vampire occidental : genèse et migrations d'une figure de l'imaginaire". Amiens, 2006. http://www.theses.fr/2006AMIE0016.
Testo completoBeginning with an analysis of the Slavic vision of vampirism and its attributes, our dissertation traces the various stages of its development in Western European literature and culture in the 18th and 19th centuries, before examining the factors responsible for the growing notoriety of Serbian vampire "cases" in the 1730s. The numerous philosophical and theological treatises concerning this "superstition" substantiate the fact it was considered a pathological adjunct of ignorant peoples. Eighteenth century entries in dictionaries stress the distended aspect of vampires bloated with blood, the fascination for which can be measured by the plethora of official texts "proving" their existence. The image of the vampire in 19th century literature exemplifies Western European society's quest for identity, and it is within this framework that the vampire came to connote infirmity and unquenched desire, with the pale and bloodless body becoming the allegorical representation of deprivation
Cathelain, Neela. "Between Affect and Structure : Shame, Mobility, and the Novel Form". Electronic Thesis or Diss., Sorbonne université, 2024. http://www.theses.fr/2024SORUL073.
Testo completoBetween Affect and Structure: Shame, Mobility, and the Novel Form makes an intervention in the theory of the novel and argues that shame is the affect of the form. The novel draws from the Bildungsroman and the picaresque traditions, which organize the uncertain position of the protagonist within or at the margins of a social order while exploring the protagonist’s interiority. This dissertation conceptualizes shame as a double movement toward individual identity and relationality. In the novel, shame thus asks to be read with mobility and migration: by identifying shame as the impulse of the form and the affect it produces out of its failure to cohere, this study charts the progression of the novel form as a series of displacements. This trajectory strives toward a totalizing coherence and is formalized by literal or figurative migrations, which seek to transform, overcome or escape the moment of shame. This dissertation proceeds in five chapters, after an introduction that outlines the theoretical framework. The first chapter studies instantiated and metafictional shame in relation to sentimentalism from the 18th-century to contemporary Ireland. The second chapter turns to shame in relation to Englishness and nation formation, with the figures of the gentleman and the butler in the 19th and 20th centuries. The third explores fatigue as a particular instantiation of shame in a posthuman chronotope through 20th-century American science fiction and opens on the contemporary New Weird. The fourth chapter examines the relation between shame and different forms of displacement and migration through the figure of the terrorist in contemporary postcolonial novels. Finally, the fifth chapter goes back to formal distinctions established in the introduction, and develops the idea that the novel functions as “the confession of a liar,” which may rely on shame as a tool to elicit the sympathy of the reader

Testo completoThe common thread of this research is to focus on the patterns and the figures of the “entre” (F. Jullien) in order to prove the existence of a new way of thinking because of the analysis of a body made up of four migrant novels (French and Italian). As the exploratory activity of the “écart” stresses on the elements that it separated, the challenge of this research is to avoid bringing the literature of migration to a closed category. We want to bring out its innovative nature which reflects its singular creativity connected to the authors, but also the effects of the globalization on the evolution of national literatures. The new way of thinking that emerges from the analysis of our body is able to set productive connections at the intersection of several disciplines. Thereby the literature of migration provides a multidisciplinary and intercultural methodology to comprehend the complexity of the contemporary world
Buonanno, Fiorangelo. "Le milieu urbain dans la littérature italienne de la migration". Nantes, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015NANT3036.
Testo completoE theme of the urban environment in Italian literature of migration is one of the most significant and, paradoxically, one of the most neglected by the specialists of Italian literature of migration. This volume, after having questioned several theoretical problems such as the definition of this literary phenomenon, overcomes an intercultural approach to the study of these works by achieving new interpretations that could bring to the forefront the latent ideology of the examined authors. Then, by examining the criteria for a successful analysis of the urban environment in Italian literature of migration, this thesis reveals new problems such as those related to the different categories of perception of the city and a number of strategies of appropriation of places developed by migrant characters, as well as a number of stylistic techniques that were defined as "rhetoric of difference". The urban routes of the characters created by some of the most relevant migrant writers appear as an attempt to rediscover the urban memory. In this resemantisation, there is sometimes the tendency of certain authors to build urban myths with the objective of presenting a particular view of the world: this investigation analyses the stylistic techniques related to these myths, trying to make emerge their limits

Testo completoSince Ancient Times, thinkers and writers have in large numbers been struck by political exile. In return, this situation has influenced their work and literature as a whole. In the second half of the 20th Century, this literary tradition has been deeply transformed by the surge of totalitarian regimes, and the struggle with democracies which these regimes have provoked. This new political context has induced a large increase of writers in exile, but also important structural transformations, forcing the exiles to modify their own images, the themes of their work and their communication strategies, and also the nature of their writings. The comparative study of the works of Jorge Semprún, Christa Wolf, Julio Cortázar and Alicia Dujovne Ortiz allows us to discover common aesthetic changes between these politically committed writers, who have flown respectively from Spain, Germany, and Argentina, and to note the birth of a new form of writing

Testo completoThe purpose of this dissertation is to examine the main identity problems of the greek literature of migration in prose which was created in europe. The first part contains main theoretical elements of the identity notion in psychology and sociology as well as the total number of the literary texts collected and studied during the research. The second part is devoted to the systematic study of a limited number of literary texts belonging in two different periods (19th century/ post-war period). These are texts of nine authors of a great variety. The third part is devoted to the elaboration on certain suppositions put forward during the analysis of the texts. In this cese the objective is to search the main traits of the greek migration literature in prose: the interdependence of the issue of migration and the problematic of identity, the function of space and time facts, the role of characters in the development of the plot etc
