Abstract (sommario):
Adolescent mental health has implications for current and future wellbeing. While a link exists between poverty and mental health, little is known about how experiencing material hardship, such as insecurity of food, housing, utilities, and medical care, throughout early childhood affects adolescent mental health. We examine the relationship between material hardship in childhood and adolescent mental health. We use Poisson regression to examine the effect of material hardship experienced at different stages of childhood on adolescent depression and anxiety outcomes at age 15. We use longitudinal data from the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study ( N = 3,222). We find that recently experiencing material hardship during childhood is positively and significantly associated with anxiety and depression symptoms at age 15, even when controlling for material hardship at age 15. Additionally, we find that insecurity during mid-childhood and the stress of lacking basic needs during a critical age may influence mental health in adolescence.

Abstract (sommario):
Why are the product design of the Apple Inc. are so successful in the dog-eat-dog market? One of the most important reasons is that the mental imageries of product user experience design of Apple Inc. are close to the user's expectant material mental imageries. In this study, we want to gain the main mental imageries of information product materials user experience design of the target users (18-28 years old university students or the recent graduates in the east of China) in the near future of the next 1-2 years. We used Culture Scan, Contextual Inquiry, Semantic Differential Method, and the Coordinate of Mental Imagery to study. We discovered that the main mental imageries of information product materials user experience design of the target users in the near future of the next 1-2 years are high-technological and fashionable. We built a bridge from the the material mental imagery of the user to the material mental imagery of the designer. The actual demand of the consumers could be more easily understood by the company.

Abstract (sommario):
The principle of physical causal closure makes the problem of the ontology of consciousness insoluble since the principle rejects the possibility of mental causation. However, this principle is based on the linear causality model the foundation of which is the connection of material events with each other. The article deals with the possibility of mental causation based on non-material events, reflecting the influence of probability on probability, and not an event on an event. A hypothetical model is considered, in which one state of activity of neural processes in the brain can correspond to various mental states that differ from each other, however, not content-wise but within the framework of a non-material property. The non-material property is defined as the likelihood of mental assessments and, in essence, is the causal topology of mental processes.

Abstract (sommario):
To experience an enduring positive state of mind, one needs the proper conditions to do so. In this paper, I discuss the effect of two such conditions: subjective income and perceived respect. Money is necessary to buy food, shelter, but also lifestyle. Therefore, its role in quality of life is well established and cannot be denied in contemporary society. The primary hypothesis is that perceived respect, or if people feel valued in their society, affects mental well-being, irrespective of the current level of income. Using data from European Quality of Life Survey wave four, the year 2016, and multiple linear regression models, I prove for Romania and EU28 that people struggling to live a decent life have a lower level of mental well-being when not feeling valued by others. Keywords: mental well-being; subjective income; perceived respect; European Quality of Life Survey; WHO-5 scale.

Abstract (sommario):
Background A depression-awareness campaign delivered through the Internet has been recommended as a public health approach that would enhance mental health literacy and encourage help-seeking attitudes. However, the outcomes of such a campaign remain understudied. Objective The main aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an online depression awareness campaign, which was informed by the theory of planned behavior, to encourage help-seeking attitudes for depression and to enhance mental health literacy in Hong Kong. The second aim was to examine click-through behaviors by varying the affective facial expressions of people in the Facebook advertisements. Methods Potential participants were recruited through Facebook advertisements, using either a happy or sad face illustration. Volunteer participants registered for the study by clicking on the advertisement and were invited to leave their personal email addresses to receive educational content about depression. The participants were randomly assigned into two groups (campaign or control), and over a four consecutive week period, received either the campaign material or official information developed by the Hospital Authority in Hong Kong. Pretests and posttests were conducted before and after the campaign to measure the differences in help-seeking attitudes and mental health literacy among the campaign and control groups. Results Of the 199 participants that registered and completed the pretest, 116 (55 campaign and 62 control) completed the campaign and the posttest. At the posttest, we found no significant changes in help-seeking attitudes between the campaign and control groups, but the campaign group participants demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in mental health literacy (P=.031) and a higher willingness to access additional information (P<.001) than the control group. Moreover, the happy face Facebook advertisement attracted more click-throughs by users into the website than did the sad face advertisement (P=.03). Conclusions The present study provides evidence that an online campaign can enhance people’s mental health literacy. It also demonstrates the practicality and effectiveness of an online depression awareness campaign using a Facebook-based recruitment strategy and distribution of educational materials through emails. It is important for future studies to take advantage of the popularity of online social media and conduct evaluative research on mental health promotion campaigns.

Abstract (sommario):
The impact of social and material conditions on mental health is well established but lacking in a coherent approach. We offer the concept of ‘vitality’ as means of describing how environments facilitate ‘feelings of being alive’ that cut across existing diagnostic categories. Drawing on the work of Stern, Fuchs, Worms and Duff, we argue that vitality is not solely a quality of an individual body, but rather emerges from attunements and resonances between bodies and materials. We use vitality as a lens to explore how movements within and between assembled sets of relations can facilitate or disable feelings and expressions of being alive. Building on extended discussions of both inpatient and community-based mental healthcare, we sketch out a research agenda for analysing ‘vital spaces’.

Abstract (sommario):
Millennials are facing many challenges in this era. Of course, the growth spurt of technology and business brings positive changes but also negatives for physical and mental. One of the negative sides is the higher rate of stress that causes people to demand a refreshment facility, where the word ‘refreshment’ itself means to give energy physicallly and mentally. Seeing from the programs needed and the project location, produce a building design that adapt tropical style and post-modern architecture without leaving the traditional value. With highly slanted roof and having many skylights protruding the tropical style of the building. The façade uses basic materials like woods, concrete, and glass with warm tone color. Type and behavior also take important roles by co-influencing each other. Type itself is a concept that occurs in typology which determines whether the new typology will be the same as it is before or will it be a new form of typology that start a breakthrough. Instead, this project must use pattern language method of design which makes complicated design more simplified, and in the end produces a final design that answers the Milenial problems. AbstrakGenerasi milenial menghadapi banyak tantangan zaman.

Abstract (sommario):
Background Internet is a particularly dynamic way to quickly capture the perceptions of a population in real time. Complementary to traditional face-to-face communication, online social networks help patients to improve self-esteem and self-help. Objective The aim of this study was to use text mining on material from an online forum exploring patients’ concerns about treatment (antidepressants and anxiolytics). Methods Concerns about treatment were collected from discussion titles in patients’ online community related to antidepressants and anxiolytics. To examine the content of these titles automatically, we used text mining methods, such as word frequency in a document-term matrix and co-occurrence of words using a network analysis. It was thus possible to identify topics discussed on the forum. Results The forum included 2415 discussions on antidepressants and anxiolytics over a period of 3 years. After a preprocessing step, the text mining algorithm identified the 99 most frequently occurring words in titles, among which were escitalopram, withdrawal, antidepressant, venlafaxine, paroxetine, and effect. Patients’ concerns were related to antidepressant withdrawal, the need to share experience about symptoms, effects, and questions on weight gain with some drugs. Conclusions Patients’ expression on the Internet is a potential additional resource in addressing patients’ concerns about treatment. Patient profiles are close to that of patients treated in psychiatry.

Abstract (sommario):
A production plan will run well if it is supported by an adequate supply of raw materials. Raw material procurement at PT Pura Barutama is done by asking suppliers to send raw materials to the warehouse every day with an uncertain amount. As a result, there is a buildup of raw materials in the warehouse. This accumulation of raw materials poses a risk of loss because the raw materials used are materials that are prone to damage, if this happens, the company will experience a loss in purchasing costs. The purpose of this study is to determine the amount of raw material orders using the ARIMA method for forecasting raw material requirements and Economic Quantity Order (EOQ) to determine the point of reordering raw materials. The results showed that the use of EOQ can save the total cost of raw material inventory up to Rp 53,549,222. It is concluded that the optimal amount of raw material ordering is 19591.8 Kg / order, ordering is done 10 times a year and the company's raw material reorder point is when the amount of raw material is 668.71 Kg, thus the company does not experience excess raw materials.

Abstract (sommario):
Objective To assess the relationship between poverty and mental illness in order to stimulate debate on future international cooperation programs in mental health. Method Epidemiological data in the international literature addressing the issue of material poverty as a risk factor for the development of mental illness and as a prognostic factor for the outcome of mental illness were reviewed. Results The international literature reviewed supports the notion that material poverty is a risk factor for a negative outcome among mentally ill people. In addition, preliminary epidemiological data suggest that service-related variables may be determinants of outcome of mental illnesses. In our view, cooperation with developing countries is a great opportunity to evaluate mental health services in a natural setting. Conclusions A new generation of programs for international cooperation in mental health is needed, in which knowledge and technology transfer is based on a service-research attitude. Attention should be focused on variables related to the poverty of services that might be linked to the course and outcome of mental illnesses.

Abstract (sommario):
Objective: The aim of this study was to analyse how newspaper articles that depict mental illnesses are generated from source materials. Method: From a prospectively collected national sample of print materials involving mental illness, 50 published items that related to the Privacy Commissioner's opinion about disclosure of a psychiatric patient's health information were identified. A copy of the Privacy Commissioner's original Case Note and three news stories about the Case Note distributed by the New Zealand Press Association constituted the database. These materials were subjected to discourse analysis. We identified themes and their transformation from the Case Note through the news stories and examined the impact of these transformations on the stigmatization of mental illness. Results: Four themes were identified: human rights, vulnerability, risk of dangerousness and threat, and mental illness/psychiatric patient. The only potentially positive theme, human rights, was limited both by being fragmented in the source material, and by being utilized, in the published news stories to undermine the legitimacy of the patient's right to privacy. Use of the other themes was consistent with stereotypes about mental illness. Conclusions: Although there were no inaccuracies in the content of the news stories they were substantially more negative than the source material in their depiction of the identified patient. A potentially positive discourse (human rights) was not by itself sufficient to ensure a positive portrayal of mental illness. An understanding of the transformations is important for efforts to effectively combat the stigmatization of those with mental illness.

Abstract (sommario):
This research concerns with the strategy of diffusion applied in the translation of Indonesian meditation text into English. Applying SFL of Halliday (2014), translation as re-contextualization (House, 2015) and translation strategies (Malone, 1988), it focuses on the impacts of the strategy of diffusion upon the target text transitivity structure and clause types. The result of this research shows that the strategy of diffusion causes shifts of transitivity structure which include dematerialization, expansion and the shift from mental into non-mental clause. When there is dematerialization, the clause type changes are: (a) material clause of event to relational clause of identification; (b) material clause of event to relational clause of attributive; (c) material clause of event to relational clause of attributive with Attributor; (d) material clause of action to relational clause of attributive; (e) material clause of action to relational clause of attributive/possessive; and (f) material clause of action to relational clause of identification. In the expansion, the nominalization construction turns into material clause, relational clause of attributive and mental clause of desiderative and cognitive. In the shift from mental into non-mental clause, mental clause of cognitive and desiderative becomes relational clause of attributive.

Abstract (sommario):
Since the implementation of the market economy, innovation and international integration, with the correct guidelines and policies of the Communist Party and the State, Vietnam has rapidly developed industrial parks, attracting a large number of foreign and domestic enterprises came to operate in industrial zones. Having a large number of employees, enterprises operating in industrial zones must pay attention to working conditions and other issues for workers. One of the most important issues of concern is the material and mental life of workers. A sufficient material life when ones’ needs for food, accommodation, clothes, etc. are satisfied allows workers to survive and regenerate their energy for work. A healthy mental life ensures brings positive mood, motivation, attitude and effective working behaviors. Inadequate material and mental life reduces workers’ productivity and thus influences firms’ growth. Ensuring material and mental life for workers in industrial zones is a prerequisite in boosting productivity and achieving sustainable development. This study use survey and interview data to examine the quality of material and mental life of workers in industrial zones in Vietnam. Low income was the main hindrance to a sufficient material life and a rich mental life of workers. In addition, low quality of meal and working conditions had significant impacts to their health. The results were discussed in relation to previous studies on the life of workers in industrial parks.

Abstract (sommario):
Students' mental mastery in elementary school mathematics lessons in Indonesia is weak, slow, inaccurate, and declining. Mastery problems among elementary school students who have studied mental abacus arithmetic were found to be low. This is an urgent matter to research because there is a gap between theory, expectations, and reality. The purpose of this research was to compare the ability to solve mathematical problems between students who studied abacus mental arithmetic and students who did not study abacus mental arithmetic. This research involved 70 students. Data collection techniques using instruments, the instruments used were the first-semester mathematics exam and mental arithmetic exam. Data analysis techniques using SPSS Version 25.0 statistics, namely the t-test, were used to compare the ability to solve mathematical problems between students who studied mental abacus-arithmetic and students who did not study mental abacus-arithmetic. Pearson correlation was used to determine the relationship between students' mental arithmetic learning achievement and their ability to solve mathematical problems. The results of the research showed that there was a significant difference (p<0.05) in learning achievement on symbolic mathematics questions and mental arithmetic achievement between students who studied mental abacus calculation and students who did not study mental abacus calculation. The minimum score of the group that studied mental abacus calculation was higher compared to the group that did not study mental abacus calculation. However, there was no significant difference (p<0.05) in mathematics learning achievement between students who studied mental abacus-arithmetic and students who did not study mental abacus-arithmetic.

Abstract (sommario):
SummaryConsensus is growing, in many areas of the humanities and social sciences, that aspects of the material world we live in have causal efficacy on our minds – the major dynamic being the plasticity of the brain linked to the affordances of our bodily engagements with things. The implications of that on how we approach and understand important mental health issues have not been adequately addressed. This paper proposes a material engagement approach to the study of the processes by which different forms of materiality achieve their effects. Focusing on the example of dementia, I propose that a collaboration between archaeology, anthropology, philosophy and psychiatry could help us to fill this gap in our knowledge, allowing us to understand the exact effects of everyday objects, personal possessions and forms of material engagement on people with dementia.

Abstract (sommario):
Background Men are less likely to seek help for mental health problems, possibly because of stigma imposed by cultural masculine norms. These tendencies may be amplified within male-dominated workplaces such as the emergency services or transport industries. Mobile apps present a promising way to provide access to mental health support. However, little is known about the kinds of mental health technologies men would be willing to engage with, and no app can be effective if the intended users do not engage with it. Objective The goal of this participatory user research study was to explore the perceptions, preferences, and ideas of workers in male-dominated workplaces to define requirements for a mental health app that would be engaging and effective at improving psychological well-being. Methods Workers from male-dominated workplaces in rural, suburban, and urban locations took part in an exploratory qualitative study involving participatory workshops designed to elicit their perspectives and preferences for mental health support and the design of an app for mental health. Participants generated a number of artifacts (including draft screen designs and promotional material) designed to reify their perceptions, tacit knowledge, and ideas. Results A total of 60 workers aged between 26 and 65 years, 92% (55/60) male, from male-dominated workplaces in rural (16/60, 27%), suburban (14/60, 23%), and urban (30/60, 50%) locations participated in one of the 6 workshops, resulting in 49 unique feature ideas and 81 participant-generated artifacts. Thematic analysis resulted in a set of feature, language, and style preferences, as well as characteristics considered important by participants for a mental health app. The term “mental health” was highly stigmatized and disliked by participants. Tools including a mood tracker, self-assessment, and mood-fix tool were highly valued, and app characteristics such as brevity of interactions, minimal on-screen text, and a solutions-oriented approach were considered essential by participants. Some implementation strategies based on these findings are included in the discussion. Conclusions Future mental health mobile phone apps targeting workers in male-dominated workplaces need to consider language use and preferred features, as well as balance the preferences of users with the demands of evidence-based intervention. In addition to informing the development of mental health apps for workers in male-dominated industries, these findings may also provide insights for mental health technologies, for men in general, and for others in high-stigma environments.

Abstract (sommario):
Few countries (if any) have experienced the abundance of material welfare Norway has had for the last decades. The report of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) for 2004 places Norway on the very top of the list of ‘best countries to live in’. One might therefore expect that mental disorders would not thrive in Norway, but this is not so.

Abstract (sommario):
Introduction: Mental health camps serve the purpose of enhancing people’s awareness about mental health and offer to amend related fallacy and stigma and wrong attitude towards mental illness and people with mental illness. Mental health camps offer a potential to local community to receive affordable help and utilise the available resources to identify, counsel or refer people with mental health issues or in crises situations to community agencies for providing mental health care services. Material and Methods: A one day free mental health screening, referral and counselling camp was organized on November 20, 2019 in Jamia Hamdard (deemed to be university), Delhi, premises for students and staff. The camp was conducted with due permission from Registrar with a prior notice to the security officer. Standardized inventories for anxiety, depression and stress were administered. After interpretation of scores, those in need of counselling were given one to one counselling, and further referrals, if required, were done by the mental health professionals. A total of 525 students and staff walked in the camp and 86 students were given spot counselling and referral as required. The results from inventories were later analysed and reported. Result: The analysis of inventories showed that more than 50% respondents had 50% probability of developing major stress induced health problems in the near future. More than 2/3rd participants had moderate level of stress. The camp helped in dispelling the stigma associated with talking about one’s mental health and consolidated the belief that it is okay to talk about one’s mental health.

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
Materials play a crucial role in various industries, ranging from aerospace and automotive to healthcare and electronics. Understanding their mechanical properties is fundamental in ensuring their performance and reliability in different applications. Material testing not only aids in selecting the right material but also in optimizing treatments and processes for enhanced functionality and durability. In recent years, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods have gained prominence due to their ability to assess material properties without causing damage. This approach not only saves time and resources but also allows for continuous monitoring and inspection during the lifespan of a material or component. Among the advanced NDT techniques, Laser-Based Ultrasonics (LBU) has emerged as a powerful tool for non-contact, high-resolution testing and characterization of materials. By harnessing laser technology to generate and detect ultrasonic waves, LBU offers unparalleled sensitivity and precision in assessing material integrity, defects, and structural variations. Its non-invasive nature makes it ideal for inspecting complex geometries, thin films, and delicate components where traditional destructive methods may not be feasible or practical. Furthermore, LBU can provide real-time data, enabling rapid decision-making and quality control in manufacturing processes. This paper aims to highlight the advantages of NDT, particularly the superiority of techniques like LBU, in ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of materials across diverse industrial sectors. Through comprehensive material testing and characterization, informed decisions can be made regarding material selection, process optimization, and quality assurance, ultimately contributing to advancements in technology and product innovation.

Abstract (sommario):
Objective: This paper identifies rates of common mental disorders among Maori and non-Maori consulting a general practitioner (GP), and explores the association between ethnicity and social and material deprivation. Method: Survey of GPs and their patients. Participants were randomly selected GPs (n = 70), and their patients (n = 3414, of whom a subset of 786 form the basis of this paper). The main comparison is between self-identified ethnicity, mental disorder assessed by the Composite International Diagnostic Interview, and social and material deprivation measured by NZDep2001 (an area based measure), and an individualized index of deprivation. Results: Rates of mental disorder among Maori general practice attenders were higher than among non-Maori. Overall, Maori women attenders were twice as likely as non-Maori women attenders to have a diagnosable mental disorder. The rates of anxiety, depressive and substance use disorders were all higher for Maori than for others attending GPs. Treatment for psychological problems was offered by the GP at similar rates to both Maori and non-Maori. Although there were differences between Maori and non-Maori in terms of social and material deprivation, higher rates of mental disorder among Maori attending GPs compared to non-Maori cannot be accounted for by these differences alone. Conclusions: These findings support the view that whilst social and material deprivation may play a role in the high rates of mental disorders among Maori general practice attenders, there are additional ethnicity-specific factors involved. Interventions to address Maori mental health (whether by reducing risk factors for mental disorder, by promoting disclosure, early recognition and intervention, or by ensuring access to acceptable and effective treatments) may need to explicitly take those factors into account.

Abstract (sommario):
Importance. The methodological potential of mental cards for interconnected teaching of a foreign language and the specialty of future social workers is considered. This technology, used as part of integrated subject-language teaching of the French language and specialty, helps students visualize and control the material being studied, providing the opportunity to see several ideas in a small space. The theoretical description of mental maps is analyzed, their importance for teaching the grammatical side of foreign language speech and its activation in classes in a non-linguistic university is substantiated. Materials and Methods. During the study the theoretical analysis of scientific and methodological literature and advanced methodological experience were used; experiential learning; observation; survey; descriptions; elements of quantitative calculations. Results and Discussion. To create educational mental cards, the following components are proposed: the main idea or purpose of studying the material, secondary (and subsequent) ideas, connections between components, illustrative material, color stimulus, and others corresponding to the topic of the course. An algorithm for working with mental cards has been defined, which includes four main stages, each of which may contain additional stages: informational (organization of work with the topic being studied), technological (working with elements of a mental card, their comprehension, discussion and memorization), procedural (correction of the mental card), final (discussion on authentic text fragments containing studied grammatical structures and their discussion). The following oral and written professional tasks were identified: sketch, testing, abstract, discussion. The feasibility of using mental cards in teaching grammar is confirmed in the experiment conducted by the authors; statistical calculations and questioning of students have proven the effectiveness of the proposed technology. Conclusion. The effectiveness of using mental cards in the learning process is predetermined by their properties, including clarity (you can view the vocabulary being studied and note shortcomings), attractiveness (aesthetic appearance), timeliness (see what information is missing), possibility of revision (allows you to remember and assimilate the material, identify the causes of possible difficulties). This technology demonstrates a wide range of possible methods for the development of linguistic thinking, both in the field of analyzing vocabulary and grammar in the specialty being studied, and in using it for any stage of work at a non-linguistic university. The effectiveness of using mental cards for the formation of the grammatical side of foreign language speech in situations of professional communication, as well as for increasing motivation for learning a foreign language in the field of professional communication, is noted.

Abstract (sommario):
The aim of the present work was to test some of the criteria for automaticity of spatial-location coding claimed by Hasher and Zacks, particularly individual differences (as intelligence invariance) and effortful encoding strategies. Two groups of subjects, 15 with mental retardation (Down Syndrome, mean chronological age, 20.9 yr.; mean mental age, 11.6 yr.) and 15 normal children (mean age, 11.5 yr.), were administered four kinds of stimuli (pictures, concrete words, nonsense pictures, and abstract words) at one location on a card. Subsequently, subjects were presented the items on the card's centre and were required to place the items in their original locations. Analysis indicated that those with Down Syndrome scored lower than normal children on the four tasks and that stimuli were better or worse remembered according to their characteristics, e.g., their imaginability. Results do not support some of the conditions claimed to be necessary criteria for automaticity in the recall of spatial locations as stated by Hasher and Zacks.

Abstract (sommario):
When viewing the videotape, the first question one has to ask is why it should be video rather than written or audio material. In this particular instance, that question is difficult to answer. The tape simply shows two psychiatrists reading a prepared script either on camera or voice-over to the legends making up the two mnemonics they propose. The result is a rather dull recitation of material which would not be likely to ‘have them rolling in the aisles’.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper identifies some of the themes that emerge from a study of official archival records from 1918 to 1934 on the subject of mental health in colonial Lesotho. They include: difficulties experienced by colonial medical doctors in diagnosing and treating mental illnesses, given the state of medical knowledge in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries; impact of shortage of financial and other resources on the establishment and operation of medical services, especially mental health care; convergence of social order, financial and medical concerns as influences on colonial approaches to mental health care; and the question of whether Basotho colonial society saw institutionalization of their relatives as ‘hospitalization’ or ‘imprisonment’. Two case studies are presented as preliminary explorations of some of the themes.

Similar to O&C, mental-logic theory rejects the use of the material conditional and deals with the completeness problem by limiting the scope of its procedures to local sets of propositions.

Abstract (sommario):
Currently, the world is experiencing changes in the education of pupils with mild mental disorders. There is a tendency to include and educate pupils in general education institutions, while correcting the diagnosed and existing developmental disorders. Most pupils with mild mental disorders have language and speech impairments, including reading disorders, which make the learning process difficult. The work of teachers and speech therapists is hampered by the specifics of pupils' mental disorders in the pupils' mental processes and activities, as well as insufficient work material. Teachers and speech therapists do research, compile existing and develop new didactic materials for their work, including the development of reading skills. The paper analyzes theoretically the peculiarities of reading skills of pupils with mild mental disorders and the possibilities of their correction in the work of a speech therapist in a general education institution.

Abstract (sommario):
Research on the effects of child maltreatment and exposure to community violence suggests that children who experience these types of traumatic events may be at risk for alterations and biases in attention and memory similar to those that have been observed in adults suffering from traumatic stress reactions. Along these lines, attachment theory posits that representational models of relationships also may act as moderators of similar cognitive biases by selectively guiding children's attention to and processing of interpersonal stimuli. Building upon the trauma and attachment literatures, the present investigation examined the links among trauma, representational models of caregivers, and children's memory for mother-relevant information using an incidental recall task in a sample of maltreated (n = 71) and nonmaltreated (n = 102) children between the ages of 8 and 13 years. Results were consistent with the hypothesis that experiences of trauma and representational models of caregivers are associated with differences in the way children process and retrieve information about positive and negative mother attribute words. In particular, experiences of trauma initially were associated with increased insecurity in children's representational models. Moreover, the interaction of traumatic experience and security of mental representation predicted children's recall for mother attribute words: victimized children with insecure models recalled the highest proportion of negative mother stimuli. Trauma and mental representation did not have a consistent effect on structurally encoded aspects of recall. Results were discussed in terms of the ways in which children who have experienced trauma process information about their worlds. The importance of assessing functioning in multiple developmental domains when studying memory also was discussed.
