Abstract (sommario):
The Mekong Delta is the agricultural heart of Vietnam and home to nearly 20 million people. Its contributions to the entire country and global food consumers are enormous. The Delta’s delicate ecosystem, however, is distressed by several domestic and regional forces, including rural development, resource mismanagement, upstream damming, climate change, and failure to implement policies to link several systems. The authors examine trends and forces affecting the Delta and offer plausible adjustments to enhance the watershed’s well-being. Solutions will come from scale economies; higher value crops and branding; improvements to marketing channels, technologies to improve data collection and analysis, crop yields, and communication; foreign and domestic investment; and integrative policies to sustain Vietnam’s southern Delta and the entire Mekong Basin.

Abstract (sommario):
Objective: This study aims to demonstrate the factors influencing the tourist attraction capability of the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. Method: The research surveyed 310 tourists who have experienced tourism services in the Mekong Delta region. Quantitative research methods employed in the study include testing internal consistency reliability using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and structural equation modeling (SEM). Results: The research results indicate 06 factors positively influencing the capability to attract tourists to the Mekong Delta, including natural resources, socio-cultural aspects, entertainment activities, service price, human resources, and infrastructure. Among these, socio-cultural aspects exert the most influence on attracting tourists to the Mekong Delta destinations. The research findings contribute to suggesting policy implications for enhancing the destination attractiveness of the Mekong Delta. Conclusions: A tourist destination’s attractiveness can lead to a competitive edge for that destination. The study has demonstrated that six factors positively influence the ability to attract tourists to choose the Mekong Delta as a tourist destination. However, there are still certain limitations, as the research sample size is limited, the study did not examine the impact of control variables (demographic characteristics of tourists) on the destination attractiveness of the Mekong Delta.

Abstract (sommario):
The purpose of this article is to assess the current situation of production and consumption of Unburnt Building Materials (UBMs) in the Mekong Delta, thereby proposing solutions to promote the consumption of UBMs in the Mekong Delta in the coming time. Research results from the survey of producers and customers organized as well as discussions with local officials show that the whole Mekong Delta has more than 120 producers consuming through 02 main channels. Sales channels that direct customers are construction contractors - organizational customers (accounting for 90%) and through construction material trading companies (about 10%). In general, both the production and consumption of UBMs in the Mekong Delta face difficulties. Limited production capacity, limited capacity of UBMs, and low consumer confidence in UBM products are typical difficulties. Planning for the development of UBMs, organizing production to improve the innovation capacity of manufacturers and construction contractors, strengthening the link between manufacturers and UBMs consuming partners, promoting product branding products, enhancing sales promotion innovation activities, etc. are the main solutions to promote this industry to develop more in the Mekong Delta in the coming time.

Abstract (sommario):
Agritourism is a popular type of tourism in countries that have an advantage in agriculture. The development of agricultural tourism brings many opportunities for economic development and contributes to improving the social life of residents. The Mekong Delta is located in the lowland with thousands of densely crick-crossing canals formed by alluvium of the Mekong River. Its fertile soil is very favourable to aquatic rice and fruit-tree planting. The delta is the richest granary of Viet Nam. The Mekong Delta is also imbued with cultural identities. In this article, we will focus on analyzing cultural values of river in the Mekong Delta including cuisine, river landscape, agricultural production culture, craft village culture, floating market, festivals, traditional arts, folk games, etc. The research uses data collection, aggregating, analysis, and information evaluation. Data sources are collected from books, research papers in journals and combined with field surveys. The results show that the Mekong Delta, with its own unique and unique strengths, is one of the ideal locations for agricultural tourism development in the country. Preserving and developing the cultural values of water play a special role in the trend of tourism integration and development nowadays.

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract. Regarding to the important environmental issues, eco-balance and eco-system should be discussed using long period data analysing and visible result of study. These visible results will be materials for construction of geo-design of the river basin. Both hydrological changes and surface changes of the Mekong delta was analysed with new data using hydrologic model with visible mapping in this study. The Mekong River delta, the third largest delta in the world, is presently shifting from growing to shrinking with its ecosystem and environment seriously degraded. These environmental changes are due to several factors such as 1)ill-planned water management schemes including hydropower dams in the river basin, 2) sediment starvation, 3) increased nutrient inflows, in combination with other human activities including infrastructural extension, riverbed mining, delta subsidence, degradation of coastal mangrove belt, and gaps in governance in the whole Mekong basin under the climate change and sea level rise. Both scientific and management communities have suggested that the rate of Mekong delta shrinking will increase markedly this century. The paper compiled new data and mapping together with recent key studies implying that much of the degradation in the Vietnamese Mekong delta is due to recent human activities, particularly hydropower dams in the entire Mekong river basin.

By comparison with period before 1990s when there were no large dams, the natural regime here has changed with the annual sediment load to the delta having decreased by 50–60%, the flood discharges have also decreased, the hydrological seasonal regime has shifted as most of the Mekong River water is now trapped in these large dams, and the salinity intrusion into the delta now occurs earlier by 20–30 days. Further, the river bed is on the average deeper by 0.14 m, to which riverbed mining also contributes. There has been a recent increase of erosion of river banks at 400 locations and coasts. The 66% of all of foreshore is now eroding, and the rate of these events is accelerating with time. If all the proposed mainstream hydropower dams in the Lower Mekong Basin have been built, then the Vietnamese Mekong delta with its ecosystems and about 18 million people face critical issues of sustainability. This presentation also focused on some remedial conceptual solutions that may decrease, but not eliminate, the negative impacts of these dams for the Vietnamese Mekong delta. Non-engineering solutions have the highest propriety, but engineering solutions are needed for protecting eroded coastal foreshore, river bank erosion and the fragile mangrove belt. Toward to realization of SDG’s in this study region, the integrated management system of the river basin would be desired.

Abstract (sommario):
The study provides a comprehensive view at the prone state of the Mekong Delta under baseline conditions of hydropower development. Communities in Vietnam Mekong Delta have main income sources from rice farming, fishing and aquaculture, so changes in floods pattern or salinity can directly affect people’s livelihoods. Among 13 provinces in Mekong River Delta, there are 9 provinces that have moderate Potential Impact Sub-Index (PII). Tra Vinh has the PII since its population is affected by both floods and salinity more heavily than other provinces. The provinces that have higher PII also have higher Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) to impacts. All provinces except Long An have moderate vulnerability to impacts because Long An not only has low PII but also high Adaptive Capacity Sub-Index (ACI) which makes it less vulnerable. Tra Vinh has highest SVI because of its exposed state to floods and salinity and high poverty rate. The results show that majority of Mekong River Delta are vulnerable to floods and salinity.

Abstract (sommario):
Vietnam is a riparian country located in most downstream area of the Mekong river basin which is also shared by other states namely China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand and Cambodia. While the Central Highlands of Vietnam has a great potential for hydropower development in tributaries of Mekong river, the Mekong delta in Vietnam territory is rich in natural resources which are favorable for agricultural development. However, besides local constraints which have being gradually remedied by Vietnam, the development of the Mekong delta is subject to, in both terms of quantity and quality, availability of water resources which relates to the water use of or discharge into the river of upper riparians. With a view to co-developing these resources in a sustainable and mutual benefit manner, Vietnam has cooperated with other states through framework of the Mekong River Commission set up by the 1995 Mekong Agreement. This paper describes the strategy and action plan applied by Viet Nam National Mekong Committee to reach the sustainable development of the Mekong river basin in general and of Vietnam parts located in the Mekong basin in particular.

The TianHou/ThienHau-worship cult originated from Fujian, China and was gradually brought into the South of Vietnam following the footsteps of South Chinese immigrants. There are around 50 TianHou temples built and owned by the Chinese and the Vietnamese at the Mekong Delta. In the Mekong residents’ mind, TianHou is seen as a sea goddess, a protector, a benevolent Mother goddess who has been accepted through the channels of Mahayana Buddhism and traditional goddess beliefs. The religious practices at TianHou temples in the Mekong Delta have shown both the specific cultural traits of Vietnamese Chinese identities and the popular trends of multicultural exchanges by the local communities. This paper is to investigate the current situation of the cult of TianHou in the Mekong Delta to highlight the basic characteristics of this cult in the region.

Abstract (sommario):
The Vietnamese Mekong Delta has undergone much anthropogenic change in the last 100 years, and few areas of natural or semi-natural habitat remain. Despite the likely consequent loss of biodiversity, little documentation exists about the region's avifauna at any time in its history. Here, we present a review of the avifauna of the Vietnamese part of the Mekong delta based on various surveys and other fieldwork carried out since 1988, and an assessment of the few earlier data that were available. A total of 247 species has been recorded from the Vietnamese delta since 1988. Most pre-war data are now considered to be of uncertain validity. Some 50% of the species recorded since 1988 are dependent on wetlands. Of these, 20 are listed as globally threatened or Near Threatened. The delta supports, or is likely to support, internationally important numbers of 21 species of waterbird, including two threatened and three Near Threatened species. Annotations are provided for records of globally or regionally threatened species; for those species for which the Mekong Delta holds internationally important numbers; and those for which records described herein constitute range extensions. Information on the avifauna of the Mekong Delta presented here suggests it is of regional and global importance for the maintenance of wetland biodiversity.

The paper offers an overview of recent archaeological excavations of ancient canals in the Mekong River Delta. These canals have been known since the thirties when the French scholar Pierre Paris had made aerial photographic pictures of the Delta. In the late twentieth to early twenty first centuries, the canals of the Mekong Delta were investigated by the American, French, and Vietnamese archaeologists. The canals were built during the first centuries CE where the great port-polity of Funan flourished on the international trade routes which connected East, Southeast, East and West Asia, as well as the Mediterranean world. The canals of the Mekong Delta belong to the Oc Eo culture. These remnants of the past vary in planning and sometimes seem to testify the Indian or Indic influence on local culture.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract. In this paper we present a novel approach for flood hazard analysis of the whole Mekong Delta with a particular focus on the Vietnamese part. Based on previous studies identifying the flood regime in the Mekong delta as non-stationary (Delgado et al., 2010), we develop a non-stationary approach for flood hazard analysis. Moreover, the approach is also bi-variate, as the flood severity in the Mekong Delta is determined by both maximum discharge and flood volume, which determines the flood duration. Probabilities of occurrences of peak discharge and flood volume are estimated by a copula. The flood discharges and volumes are used to derive synthetic hydrographs, which in turn constitute the upper boundary condition for a large-scale hydrodynamic model covering the whole Mekong Delta. The hydrodynamic model transforms the hydrographs into hazard maps. In addition, we extrapolate the observed trends in flood peak and volume and their associated non-stationary extreme value distributions to the year 2030 in order to give a flood hazard estimate for the near future. The uncertainty of extreme flood events in terms of different possible combinations of peak discharge and flood volume given by the copula is considered. Also, the uncertainty in flood hydrograph shape is combined with parameter uncertainty of the hydrodynamic model in a Monte Carlo framework yielding uncertainty estimates in terms of quantile flood maps. The proposed methodology sets the frame for the development of probabilistic flood hazard maps for the entire Mekong Delta. The combination of bi-variate, non-stationary extreme value statistics with large-scale flood inundation modeling and uncertainty quantification is novel in itself. Moreover, it is in particular novel for the Mekong Delta: a region where not even a standard hazard analysis based on a univariate, stationary extreme value statistic exists.

Abstract (sommario):
Timber frame housing is one of the most common structures in many countries in the world. In Vietnam, timber frame buildings are well-known for having special whittling techniques that should be considered a lesson for modern methods. In the Vietnamese Mekong River Delta, the housing in rural areas was built mostly with timber frames, and some housing was built with bamboo frames and used natural materials such as nipa-leave, and coconut-leave. Therefore, the study aims to investigate the characteristics of timber frame housing in the Mekong River Delta. To achieve this, firstly, an on-site investigation of ten local housings in the Vietnamese Mekong River Delta is carried out. Secondly, the architectural characteristics of local housing are introduced, and finally, we analyze the details of timber frames. The result shows that the timber frame housing in the Vietnamese Mekong River Delta has the following features: simple structure, light framing, and a flexible connection to other local materials. These characteristics should be considered in detail as a lesson for housing design in the region.

Abstract (sommario):
In this research, we planned and conducted estimations for developing a pilot-scale Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project for group plant activities in the Vietnam electricity/energy sector. The overall aim of this paper is to assess the power generation potential of rice husk power plants in the Mekong Delta. We intend to set up a rice husk energy balance flowchart for the whole Mekong River Delta in the year 2021 and suggest policies that can be used for the power generation of unused rice husk, to avoid having them pollute rivers and canals. We put forward a safe and environmentally friendly solution to thoroughly minimize the current serious pollution of rivers and canals in the Mekong River Delta caused by the increasing quantity of unused rice husk. The results of this paper are based on the estimation of electricity potential of a group of rice husk power development plants in the Mekong River Delta with a capacity of 11 MW per plant, including carbon dioxide emission reductions (CERs) and CER credits, along with estimations of their economic criteria (NPV, B/C, IRR), both W/CDM and W/O CDM.

Abstract (sommario):
Municipal solid waste (MSW) in Vietnam has been increasing quickly and became one of the most considered environmental problems in Mekong Delta (MD) region covering 13 provinces and municipalities in the south of Vietnam. With a considerably large amount of MSW, the region produces about 5% of the total amount of MSW of the country. The collection rate of solid waste is about quite high (65 - 72%) in the cities and rather low (about 40 - 55%) in the rural areas, with a high content in organic matter (about 60 - 85%). The climate of MD can be characterized as tropical and monsoonal with a high rate of humidity and a strong impact of flooding. Like other regions too, the MSW collection and treatment system is still underdeveloped and rudimentary, with disposal sites being the sole dumping method of the unsorted MSW remaining untreated by any mechanical and biological pre-treatment steps. Within this paper, the current treatment, management and operation of MSW systems are introduced, as well as the identification of advantages and dis-advantages, environmental impacts, potential risks of the MSW system within the impact of global climate change. The situation of MSW treatment and management is correlated with the climate change impact and the integrated solid waste management is introduced as a new approach for adapting the environmental protection awareness by considering the climate change for the long-term sustainable development orientation. Abstract (sommario):
Abstract. Recent flood dynamics of the Mekong Delta have raised concerns about an increased flood risk downstream in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta. Accelerated high dike building on the floodplains of the upper delta to allow triple cropping of rice has been linked to higher river water levels in the downstream city of Can Tho. This paper assesses the hydraulic impacts of upstream dike construction on the flood hazard downstream in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta. We combined the existing one-dimensional (1-D) Mekong Delta hydrodynamic model with a quasi-two-dimensional (2-D) approach. First we calibrated and validated the model using flood data from 2011 and 2013. We then applied the model to explore the downstream water dynamics under various scenarios of high dike construction in An Giang Province and the Long Xuyen Quadrangle. Calculations of water balances allowed us to trace the propagation and distribution of flood volumes over the delta under the different scenarios. Model results indicate that extensive construction of high dikes on the upstream floodplains has had limited effect on peak river water levels downstream in Can Tho. Instead, the model shows that the impacts of dike construction, in terms of peak river water levels, are concentrated and amplified in the upstream reaches of the delta. According to our water balance analysis, river water levels in Can Tho have remained relatively stable, as greater volumes of floodwater have been diverted away from the Long Xuyen Quadrangle than the retention volume lost due to dike construction. Our findings expand on previous work on the impacts of water control infrastructure on flood risk and floodwater regimes across the delta.

Abstract (sommario):
Mekong delta is one of the most vulnerable delta in the world to climate change. Tourism is the rising economic sector in the region and is expected as one of the sectors to contribute much to the process of economic transformation and integration. However, this sector suffers from the climate-changing process due to its impacts on tourism resources, tourism products, and tourism infrastructures. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive literature review of ongoing research on the concept and application of sustainable tourism development and climate change in the Vietnamese Mekong delta. The research discusses the literature on the concept of sustainable tourism development and offers an in-depth evaluation of the correlation between tourism and climate change in the area. In reality, there is insufficient strategic planning for the tourism industry in the context of climate change. Sustainable tourism development is recommended as a vital approach for the regional tourism sector, offering long-term adaptation to climate change in the context of the Mekong delta.

Abstract. The present paper investigated the extent of the flood propagation in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta under different projected flood hydrographs, considering the 2000 flood event (the 20-yr return period event, T. V. H. Le et al., 2007) as the basis for computation. The analysis herein was done to demonstrate the particular complexity of the flood dynamics, which was simulated by the 1-D modelling system ISIS used by the Mekong River Commission. The floods of the year 2050 are simulated using a projected sea level rise of +30 cm. The future flood hydrograph changes at Kratie, Cambodia, were also applied for the upstream boundary condition by using an adjusted regional climate model. Two future flood hydrographs were applied at the upstream part of the delta, the first one in a scenario of climate change without considering developments in the Mekong Basin, and the second one in a scenario of climate change taking into account future development of the delta. Analyses were done to identify the areas sensitive to floods, considering the uncertainty of the projection of both the upstream and downstream boundary conditions. In addition, due to the rice-dominated culture in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta, possible impacts of floods on the rice-based farming systems were also analysed.

Abstract (sommario):
The origin and formation of the groundwater in the Mekong Delta are the complex problem, which has not one solution nowadays. So the exploitation scheme still has many limitations. In the aquifers of the Mekong Delta there are both fresh water and mineralized water, which are very complex and heterogeneous in the distribution. The mineralized water has been considered to have sedimentagenous genesis (buried seawater), and freshwater has been believed to originate from infiltration of meteoric water. Studying of the stable isotopes of oxygen and hydrogen of the groundwater in the Mekong Delta has shown that the groundwater originates mainly from the infiltration of the meteoric water. In addition, a significant factor in the formation of groundwater in the Middle, Lower Pliocene and Miocene aquifer is the mixing of the meteoric and sea waters. Increasing in values of stable isotopes with growing depth of groundwater is related with that the recharging areas of Paleogene (deep) aquifers are distributed higher by absolute depths and farther from the coastline than recharging areas of Quaternary (shallow) aquifers. The results of the research can be used to optimize the scheme for the exploitation of the fresh groundwater, limiting the intrusion of sea water in the exploited groundwater in the Mekong Delta.

Abstract (sommario):
Over the past century, the Mekong River Delta of southern Vietnam has undergone a series of transformations. In the early twentieth century, its forests and marshes were cleared for extensive rice production under French colonial rule; rice production was then intensified along Green Revolution lines under the post-colonial regimes of the 1960s to 1990s, before a dramatic shift toward export-oriented shrimp aquaculture since 2000. Drawing on archival and secondary data, as well as theories of extraction and unequal exchange, this paper traces the development, expansion, intensification, and eventually crisis of rice cultivation in the Mekong Delta. After a brief literature review, the paper consists of three sections. The first examines the origins and drivers of export-oriented extraction in the French colonial period; the second, the shift toward intensive rice production in the developmental states of the postcolonial period; and the third, the return to extraction, in the form of shrimp aquaculture, in the 1990s and 2000s. Building on Bunker's notion of “extractive cycles,” I argue that the Mekong Delta's history of extraction has exposed the region to ecological and economic crises, as well as shaping the long-term trajectory of subsequent development toward the extractive cultivation of export-oriented commodities.

Abstract (sommario):
The Mekong Delta has the world’s third-largest surface area. It plays an indisputable role in the economy and livelihoods of Vietnam and Cambodia, with repercussions at regional and global scales. During recent decades, the Vietnamese part of the Mekong Delta underwent profound human interventions (construction of dykes and multi-channel networks), which modified the hydrodynamic regime, especially cycles of field submersion. In this study, we first applied a full 2D numerical hydraulic model, TELEMAC-2D, to examine the effects of the complex channel and river networks on the spatial and temporal distribution of the flow in the 40,000 km2 of the Vietnamese Mekong Delta. Then, two scenarios of relative sea-level rise in 2050 and 2100 were implemented to simulate the future patterns of water fluxes in the delta. The results show that dykes and multi-channel networks would reduce the inundation area by 36% and lessen the peak water level by 15% and the discharge over the floodplains by 24%. Despite this protection, under a relative sea-level rise of 30 cm and 100 cm, the maximum flooded area could occupy about 69% and 85% of the whole delta in 2050 and 2100, respectively.

Abstract (sommario):
Recently, the unbalanced water demand and supply have been occurred globally due to the climate change, industrialization, and population increase. The water shortage problem became much severe in the developing countries because the low-stage of infrastructure might result in frequent limitation of water and transportation of water. Therefore, sustainable water supplying option is the key for the boosting the local economy. The Mekong Delta area produce most of the products in agriculture and fishery in Vietnam. However, due to low income and vast area, the infrastructure for water supply has been limited in the Mekong Delta area. Moreover, due to reduced Mekong-river flow by the dam construction in upper reaches, increased seawater level by the global warming, and increased unexpected drought and flooding by the climate change, the water supply in the Mekong delta is becoming hard. Therefore, sustainable water supplying option was required. In this study, the reverse osmosis-based desalination process could use undrinkable saline water as the feed water coupled with photovoltaic panel was suggested. In order to install the decentralized and off-grid type water production plant in the proper place in the Mekong Delta, the KIST, VKIST, and central and local governments in Vietnam collaborated. The RO plant could be successfully installed by the help of the partners and the operational conditions have been monitored. If the water providing option could be separated according to the purposes such as drinking usage and other water usage, the more technical options could be applied for the water production.

Abstract (sommario):
The flood pulse is a key element characterizing the hydrology of the Mekong River and driving the high ecosystem productivity in the Lower Mekong floodplains, both in the Cambodian lowlands and the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. This paper assesses the impacts of climate change, both in terms of changed basin water balance and sea level rise, on the Lower Mekong flood pulse. The impacts were simulated by a three-dimensional hydrodynamic model using the projected changes in sea level and the Mekong mainstream discharge under the influence of climate change as boundary conditions. The model simulations projected that average and maximum water levels and flood duration increase in 2010–2049. The most consistent and notable changes occurred in the average and dry hydrological years. Sea level rise had the greatest effects in the Mekong Delta, whereas the impacts of changed basin water balance were more notable in the upper areas of the Mekong floodplains. The projected impacts were mostly opposite to those resulting from regional water infrastructure development. Higher and longer flooding could cause damage to crops, infrastructure and floodplain vegetation, and decrease the fertile land area. On the other hand, it might boost ecosystem productivity and enhance dry season water availability.

Abstract (sommario):
This study investigates the determinants of households’ educational expenditure in the Mekong Delta through the Viet Nam Living Standard Survey (VHLSS) data in 2022. The Tobit model is used to identify factors that may influence and explain the households’ expenditure on education in the Mekong Delta. The findings found that eight factors have a statistically significant impact of 1% to 10% on the households' educational expenditure. They include 06 factors (age of household head, ethnicity of household head, household’s size, place of residence, households with additional studying members and household’s average income) which positively impact on the households’ educational consumption and the other factors (educational level of household head and participation in local government) which have negative impacts on the educational consumption of the households. Given findings enable us to propose various suggestions to optimize the investment and expenditure for the education of households in the Mekong Delta.

Abstract (sommario):
River sand mining has been a concerning problem for the southern Asian developing nations. The rampant growth of urbanisation in developing countries has led to an extensive need for and consumption of sand. The Mekong River and its delta are an essential part of southern Vietnam, and also a global biodiversity hub that is currently being exhausted by intensive sand mining. The understanding of the cause–effect of the sand mining over the Mekong delta region and river, from a systems-thinking perspective, is lacking, not only with Vietnam but also with other countries along the Mekong River. The DPSIR framework (Driver–Pressure–State–Impact–Response) is a useful tool to assess and describe the cause–effect within an ecosystem to aid in a better systems-thinking approach for stakeholders, policy makers, and governance managers to draft response measures. This study used the DPSIR framework to assess the different effects of sand mining on the ecosystem services and human well-being in the Mekong River and delta region of Vietnam. Rapid population growth, urbanisation, and infrastructure development needs remain as primary drivers for the sand consumption. The DPSIR study showed a holistic view of several interlinked pressures and state changes in Vietnam’s Mekong, along with some potential responses, to form systematic, sustainable approaches for mitigating and adapting the impacts caused by extensive river sand mining.

Abstract (sommario):
The article presents the results of the analysis of the spatial-temporal dynamics of wildfires within the boundaries of the economic region “Mekong Delta” in the south-west of the Republic of Vietnam for the period from 2001-2020. according to various information products of satellite monitoring based on data MODIS spatial resolution 250-1000 m and Landsat resolution 30 m. Mapping of burnt-out areas was performed and the recurrence of fires was determined for 13 provinces of the Mekong Delta. In the future, this will allow us to determine the influence of natural and anthropogenic factors on the burnability of the territory, as well as to study the consequences of pyrogenic effects on landscapes. According to various information products of the burnt areas, the total area of the hares ranged from 1 to 8.7 million hectares or from 15 to 37 % of the entire territory. Data on the recurrence of fires during the study period were obtained, which allows us to find out in which areas fires occur most often. The maximum frequency of fires is typical for Anjiang Province, located in the north of the region. The ability to harvest rice 2-3 times a year creates prerequisites for burning rice straw in the fields. This is probably why the increased frequency of fires and the burning of the most agricultural-developed provinces of the Mekong Delta are associated with this. This indicates the high importance of fires as an exogenous factor for the ecosystems of the lower Mekong in the conditions of climate change. In the future, an analysis of the dynamics of the territory’s burnability under the influence of climatic and hydrological factors may be carried out, considering the peculiarities of agricultural use of the Mekong Delta territory.

Abstract (sommario):
Mekong Delta Region of Vietnam is forecasted to have one of world’s most severe impacts from climate change. There is a big knowledge gap in research on climate change impacts on tourism in this area. While climate change’s impacts on agriculture and fisheries have received much attention from authorities and researchers, impacts on tourism have largely been ignored. This paper presents findings from a field study the authors conducted to fill the research gap on climate change’s impact on tourism in Mekong River Delta. The study based on spatial analysis and questionnaires and interviews of local tourism leaders, tourism businesses and tourists discovered that climate change is a real challenge for region’s tourism businesses. Vulnerable tourism businesses in low and flat delta such as Mekong needs more attention and practical actions from international organizations and local entities in the era of climate change threats.

Abstract (sommario):
The issue of developing a large seaport as a hub of goods import and export for the Mekong Delta has been posed for decades. It is not only the direction of theGovernment, but also the expectation of localities in the Southwest region which has the largest agricultural and aquacultural production for export in the nation. So far, the largest project for seaport infrastructure and navigation channel in the Mekong Delta is the Duyen Hai Power Center seaport project which can accommodate vessels of 30,000 DWT and channel for large tonnage vessels of 10,000 DWT full load to enter Hau River and 20,000 DWT offloading in Tra Vinh Province. Duyen Hai seaport (Tra Vinh) has been studied for more than 15 years, being the only area in the Mekong Delta with sufficient maritime infrastructure such as breakwaters, ports and channels for ships of up to 30,000 DWT, etc. This paper focuses on introducing the role and advantages of Tra Vinh Province in seaport development.
