Testo completoIn the last ten years, the price of raw materials showed wide fluctuation and an increase in volatility. The volatility in the agricultural commodity market has aroused greatest interest because the prices of food commodities influence the survival of the people. Different studies have led different conclusions about the causes of these fluctuations. Some, following the Masters hypothesis, indicate in the increase of the speculative activity the determinant of such fluctuations. Others, instead, are critically and reported the inconsistencies of Masters hypothesis. The thesis, intend to verify if there exist a co-implication between wheat futures price and some financial speculative variables. Implementing a cointegration analysis it is not possible to clearly highlight a direct link between speculation, price growth and market volatility: this is also because the presence of professionals favors a better functioning of the market - incensing liquidity, to the point that the lack of speculation would put the very existence of the market at risk.

Testo completoThe present work has as its main objective to relate the use of clay, artistic expression and cultural material technical aspects often ignored by the executors (artisans artists), from the traditional techniques of analysis modeling. Search, therefore, understand how the raw material (clay), available for certain artisan community, influenced the spontaneous development of a modeling technique employed in a particular region of Brazil, resulting in a peculiar form of artistic expression, because the availability of a kind of raw material is a commonly neglected aspect in the analysis of a form of artistic expression. Often, depending on the limitations of both the material and the lack of technical knowledge, \"failures\" of the material are resolved with the use of techniques developed as a result of experimentation and observation. Thus, aims to investigate how the properties of clay are important in defining the characteristics of a work, in choosing the method of execution in its different phases. As performers can \"overcome\" certain problems presented by the material with the use of experimental solutions. The survey results proved that the raw material used by each community influences the type of work performed, promoting the choice of aesthetic solutions and appropriate modeling the properties of clays. This somehow makes the execution of work with their particular characteristics and authentic in another region, with use of a clay that not available on site. Hence the documentary also character of the study, because registers both the existence of a story press and their specific particularities finite but also the technique and the voice of these people, that of singular form to use as a means of expression and livelihood.

Testo completoThe study that the candidate has worked in the PhD project is part of the complex process of solving the energy problem that necessarily involves different variables: economic, technical, political and social. The aim is to express an opinion on the actual “convenience" of the exploitation of renewable resources. The path chosen was to analyze some systems of exploitation, study their impact on the environment and finally compare them. This made it possible to find objective evidence to assess. In particular, the candidate has discussed the issue of resource "biomass" by analyzing in detail some industries in the Territory of the Emilia-Romagna: plants micro chain, short chain and long chain. With the collaboration of ARPA Emilia-Romagna, CISA Center and Prof. Ciancabilla Association, was made a choice of systems to be analyzed: a micro-industry: wood chip industry in Castel d'Aiano; a short chain: biogas production in industry of agricultural biomass "Mengoli" in Castenaso and finally in long chain: industry of solid biomass "Tampieri Energies" of Faenza. With regard to the methodology used to study has been carried out a study of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). By using the software "SimaPro 6.0", the results for the impact categories of facilities considering methods "Eco Indicator 99" and "Edip Umip 96". The comparison between the results of the different systems did not lead to general conclusions, but in-depth assessments specific to each industry analyzed, given the multiplicity of variables of all reality, both for the size / scale (micro-industry, short chain and long chain) that as regards the typology biomass used.

Testo completoThe dissertation aims to provide the sustainability analysis of an agronomic system for biodiesel production in soil made infertile by namatode pests. The analysis has been performed through a comparative Life Cycle Assessment of an agronomic system of tobacco oil production with Ethiopian mustad green manure in order to contrast nematodes proliferation thanks to the Ethiopian mustar chemical composition, compared to a traditional tobacco cultivation using 1-3-dichloropropene to face the nematodes problem. In order to integrate the Life Cycle Assessment results with a Land use impact evaluation, the Soil Conditioning Index model (developed by the Agricultural Department of the United States, USDA) has been used.

Testo completoDuring my research period I worked to find strategies that assure saving resources in building field. I also worked to examine in depth a method for environmental evaluation of those strategies. I believe that human being has to leave the actual anthropocentric vision, in which all around us there is merchandise at our disposal. We have to entry into a new age of equilibrium between natural resources and human activities. I analyzed straw and clay as raw materials for sustainable buildings. In my opinion, industrialized construction building has to go flat and leave enough space for non conventional techniques and materials. I believe that we have to do more than only use natural materials in buildings. I believe also that energetic certification is not synonymous with reliability towards an eco-friendly product. For those reasons, I evaluated non conventional techniques with an LCA approach, analyzing impact in production phase, transporting, construction phase, end of life scenarios. Furthermore I studied IMPACT methodology for damage assessment and I find that there is a lack: the method doesn’t consider a damage category linked to human modification to natural hydrogeological conditions. I carried out the research through practical and experimental activities in construction sites, and LCA studies at Enea_Bologna (Ing. Paolo Neri).

Testo completoAt the present day, remediation of polluted groundwater can be performed through various technologies; however, these technologies are often associated with relevant costs (both economic and environmental) and technical issues which in some cases may affect the cost effectiveness and feasibility of remediation itself. This is why efforts in the field of research are being increasingly focused in the developement of bioremediation technologies which use the degrading potential of bacteria and microorganism to remove target pollutants. These technologies require a smaller demand for resources and technical equipment in order to achieve clean up targets compared to traditional systems. The aim of my research work is to provide an assessment of the environmental performance trough LCA methodology of an innovative bioremediation technology (BEARD) and two widespread remediation technologies, a Permeable Reactive Barrier (passive technology) and a Pump and treat system (active technology).

Testo completoThis thesis is the result of a three years’ research carried out in collaboration with the Regional Energy Observatory of the Emilia-Romagna Region. The idea of the research was born while investigating the reasons that led to the peak of energy consumption, three years before the economic crisis that hit global economies. The study, focusing on analyzing the relationships between energy and economic indicators, first analyzed the main literature on the subject. This analysis has highlighted that, since the first studies dating back to the '70s, the statistical and econometric methodologies that attempted to identify a causal direction between energy consumption and economic growth have become increasingly complex. However, these studies did not provide univocal results. New tools, useful for the analysis of these relationships, were then developed, starting from the energy balances and the environmental accounting matrices (NAMEA) on a regional scale. The former provide the main energy indicators, the latter the economic indicators integrated with various indicators of sustainable development. After analyzing the energy intensities at different territorial scales (European, national and regional), an assessment of the decoupling between energy consumption indicators and economic indicators were analyzed. Finally, simplified methodologies aiming at forecasting energy consumption were developed, focusing on the industrial sector of the Emilia-Romagna Region. Decoupling analysis have shown that the Emilia-Romagna industrial sector has responded positively to the energy efficiency policies implemented by the manufacturing sector, especially from 2007 onwards. The results of the applied models have proved that in Emilia-Romagna, after two strong recessionary phases, the industrial sector still represents the engine of the regional economy. Moreover, the analyzes of short-term energy consumption forecasts show a recovery in industrial consumption and in particular in the consumption of natural gas and electricity consumption.
