Testo completoDespite concerted efforts to improve the process of shift-to-shift hand-off report (SHR), challenges and barriers continue to threaten the integrity of information shared between nurses. Research studies have demonstrated that vulnerabilities in SHR have been associated with clinical practice demographic factors, lack of a standardized process and tools, and differences in perceived value of SHR.
A quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted to identify nurse perception of SHR processes, factors that influence nurse perception of SHR, and nurse perception of bedside shift report (BSR) versus alternative SHR methods. Participants included a convenience sample of registered nursing students (n=49) enrolled in RN-BSN or MSN programs at a private southwestern Pennsylvania university. Descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and two independent t-Tests were used to analyze data collected from the Handover Evaluation Scale.
Study results revealed there was no statistically significant difference between nurse perception of SHR processes, demographic factors that influence SHR, and the locality of SHR (BSR). In addition, the majority of nurses identified a reluctance to change current practice of conducting the SHR process. There was no identified association between nurse perception of the quality of information (p=.22), interaction and support (p=.96), or efficiency (p=.17) of SHR.
As nurses are key stakeholders in the transfer of crucial up-to-date patient care information, nurse perception of the SHR needs to be further examined and evaluated to improve patient care outcomes. Quality assurance measures are the hallmark of standardized processes to ensure the delivery of safe and effective care.

Testo completoWhile body image disturbances continue to be seen in individuals living in Western society, research has shown that both weight loss and exercise participation can decrease body image disturbance in both men and women. The purpose of the study was to examine the effect of a weight management clinic on body perception of obese individuals. Thirty nine participants were a part of a three-month weight management program with caloric restrictive diets and weekly exercise recommendations. The 34-item Multidimensional Body Self Relation Questionnaire, Body Assessment Scale and Social Physique Anxiety Questionnaire were administered at baseline and 12 weeks. All physiological measurements were conducted at baseline and 12 weeks. Based on participant’s weight loss, they were divided into two groups: weight loss and no weight loss. A 2 (baseline, 12 week) X 2 (weight loss achieved, weight loss not achieved) repeated measures ANOVA was conducted with difference between ideal and current body position as the dependent variable to examine the relationship between weight loss and body perception. A 2 (baseline, 12 week) X 2 (weight loss achieved, weight loss not achieved) repeated measures ANOVA with social physique anxiety as the dependent variable was conducted to examine the relationship between weight loss goal achieved and body perception. A 2 (baseline, 12 week) X 2 (weight loss achieved, weight loss not achieved) repeated measures ANOVA with the MBRSQ-AS subscales as the dependent variable was conducted to examine the relationship between weight loss goal achieved and body perception. A Pearson correlation was run to predict weight loss from the MBSRQ-AS subscales, SPA and BAS. The results of this study indicate that there was a significant difference in body perception from baseline to 12 weeks, regardless of weight loss achieved by participants. Additionally, there was no correlation between weight loss and body perception variables.

Testo completoCarbone, Fabio. "Cultural heritage quality management: analysis of archaeological heritage managers' perception". Doctoral thesis, Universidade de Aveiro, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10773/16439.
Testo completoWith this work we propose to analyze the perception of the concept of quality by managers of museums and archaeological sites. To this end, we chose to analyze some heritage areas open to the public and certified by HERITY - World Organisation for the Certification of Quality Management of Cultural Heritage, the only international certification of this kind which has been officially recognized by UNESCO and the World Tourism Organization. The application of the principles of quality and Total Quality Management to cultural heritage management is part of the efforts towards a continuous improvement of the cultural tourism offer and - in our opinion – towards an increasing capacity to promote intercultural dialogue between local population and visitors. In this context, we have therefore investigated the perception of quality within the context of cultural heritage management, and how the culture of quality can provide a greater involvement of local communities, contributing to the strengthening of authenticity and destination personality, as well as the promotion of intercultural dialogue between tourists and residents. To answer these questions, we have defined a theoretical model and subsequently carried out an empirical work at European level on the perception of quality by managers of cultural heritage sites, namely archaeological heritage. An in-depth comprehension of areas such as Archeology, Tourism and Quality Management, as well as its role within the broader context of sustainable regional development, are the basis of this work. The latter is intended, in turn, to be a vehicle of reflection within the creation of public policies on territorial management and tourism development. We thus undertook a research line which is still almost unexplored, that is, the analysis of quality principles within the cultural heritage management, their potential and the measurement of their actual impact on the territory, through an integrated approach, by considering in a specular, complex way the two main beneficiaries: residents and tourists.

Testo completoVan, Jaarsveld Karien. "The effect of the senses on the perception of a brand". Thesis, Stellenbosch : University of Stellenbosch, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/10019.1/4130.
Testo completoENGLISH ABSTRACT: Against the background of the challenge marketers face in influencing consumer perceptions of brands, this study attempts to assess the effect of the senses on the perception of a brand. Perception is the way in which consumers interpret the world around them, with the senses as the receptors of information from the environment. One way of influencing consumer perceptions is by stimulating or involving multiple senses in brand building. To test this statement, the following research question was drawn: ‘Do the senses affect the perception of a brand?’The empirical study was one of an experimental nature, and a 2 x 2 x 2 factorial design was used to assess the effect of the senses on the perception of a brand. In order to focus the research and to provide information to a leading distributor of alcohol spirits in South Africa, it was decided to concentrate on alcohol, more specifically, brandy. Due to the nature of the selected brand, sensory properties in relation to the product were used to measure the effect of the senses on brand perception. The nature of the brand is a consumable, and taste was used as the dependant variable to measure perceptions. The stimulated senses in the experiment are sight, sound and smell. The stimuli were: sight with the visible brandy colour, sound in the form of brandy being poured into a glass and smell as an enhanced honey aroma. Several experiments were conducted in a sensory laboratory, which assessed the effect of the senses on the perception of a brand, by way of individual main effects, two-way interactions and a three-way interaction. A convenience sample of 240 alcohol spirit consumers, from the Western Cape, was used to conduct the experiment. The empirical results indicated that the three independent variables (individual main effects or two-way interactions) did not have significant effects on perception. Most importantly, it was found that the three-way interaction of sight, sound and smell did have a significant effect on the perception of a brand. Therefore, this study revealed that multiple stimulated senses affect the perception of a brand.

Testo completoThe purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore emergency nurses’ perception of patient-initiated violence in eastern Tennessee. Twenty-four rural eastern Tennessee nurses participated in the study. The 24 participants were assigned to one of four gender specific focus groups. The focus groups offered qualitative data associated with the phenomenon. Themes and subthemes emerged from the analysis of participants responses using Colaizzi’s (1978) strategies. The responses were segmented and compared to identify similar phrases or words. The data analysis detected five themes. Victimization manifested as participants’ feelings and a lack of executive leadership support. Re-victimization due to rural nurses’ continual exposure to patients who previously committed violent acts. A lack of executive leadership support was identified. Self-care deficit resulting from the participants’ post-exposure symptoms. Distinct gender differences were evident in this study. Implications include exploring an open dialogue between emergency nurses, nursing leadership, and executive leadership to develop policies that support the rural emergency nurse and establish policies that mitigate violence. Gender differences can be explored through individual discussion with emergency leadership leading to an individualized action plan that can foster self-care, employee engagement, and retain staff at the bedside.

Testo completoThis study analyzes different demographic groups and the ability to understand a physician and how this contributes to feeling carefully listened to. There are four hypotheses being tested, each predicting a different group within each variable will feel the most carefully listened to. The Statistical Package for Social Services (SPSS) was used to analyze data from the California Health Interview Survey (CHIS). The portion of the survey that focused on adults was utilized in this study. Data was analyzed using t-tests and ANOVA tests. The results of the study determined that the elderly, males, and participants that could understand their physician felt the most carefully listened to for each variable. As for race, Whites, African American, and participants that identified as more than one race felt more carefully listened to when compared to Asians and participants that identified as a race not specified. These finding only supported one hypothesis, participants that understood their physician would feel that most carefully listened to. Theses result are a valuable tool that can be used to being quality improvement efforts focused on patient centered communication.
