Alves, Fernandes Ana Paula. "Les batucadas en France : incorporations et représentations du Brésil au XXIe siècle". Thesis, Paris 10, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018PA100141.
In France, from the 1970s, the first percussive orchestras called "batucadas" appeared. Inspired by rhythms of brazilian popular culture (mainly samba, samba-reggae and maracatu), these are organized as associations (Journal Officiel des Associations) and they have experienced a considerable increase since the early 2000’s, when the French musical scene began to favor "world music". First, the ascendancy of the batucada in France is explained by its musical form - group practice - and its aesthetic characteristics linked to a "popular" dimension, little present in French music and society in general. However, another factor fuels the interest of French-speaking percussionists. The representations to which this music is associated, through an internationally diffused image: Brazil is a country where "racial democracy" exists. Nowadays, the theme of "cultural diversity" is defended by several actors, integrating a large part of European political and institutional discourses. In this context, the attraction to the batucada - music that refers to a proxy for the "Other" - can reveal the dynamics proper to the society where it is "incorporated". The encounters between Brazilian percussionists and "Gringos" are intersected by historically constructed power relationships between Africa, Brazil and Europe; between aesthetic pleasures and identity resellers that express themselves "in situation", the speeches and performances of the Francophone practitioners construction

Currently, the growing situation of pluralism and religious diversity in Brazil sets up a scenario of decrease of the Catholicism and increasing of the Pentecostal churches, it is drawing a new religious reality. The religious plurality is thus marked and the search for recognition as well as the aggressive proselytizing of some give birth to conflicts. The religious intolerance has been settled down in Salvador Bahia. This intolerance has been drawn in the symbolic imagery of neo-Pentecostal religious movements that follow the "Theology of Spiritual Warfare. " As leader of the movement, the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God accuses Candomblé of practicing witchcraft, thus spreading its primary mission "of crusade against the devil" -this is broadcasted by that church's media. The elements of this "crusade" are based on the centrality of exorcism and the fighting against the evil forces. Before the acts of intolerance, the religions of African Matrix organize themselves and try to push back the virulence of the attacks. This controversy is the result of "Pentecostalization" of an important part of society is the carrier of complex issues that this thesis intends to analyze

In the 20 th century there was a significant rediscovery of early music instruments. As part of this process, the recorder was returned to a position of importance, both in Brazil and in Europe, as a result of music teaching and performances of pre-classical music, but also in the context of contemporary composition. It is the latter which the present research explores. Based on an annotated catalogue of works or methods for the recorder by 48 Brazilian composers and 12 Brazilian authors respectively, it seeks to situate this corpus and its evolution in its geographical and artistic context. The study considers the organological, historical and pedagogical foundations of the above, presents a repertoire which spans three generations of composers, analysing its main features and musical characteristics, with reference to tendencies present in other music from the same decades

Folhetos de cordel are small books sold on street markets throughout Brazilian Northeastern towns. From the 1950ś on, the most roughly carved type of woodprint used to illustrate folheto covers started being considered a privileged sort of 'primitive' art and therefore such engravings have also been collected , displayed and sold in museums and galleries in Brazil and abroad. A deep study has been carried out with over six hundred works dating from the 19th and 20th centuries which reveals that other kinds of engravings similarly developed by self-taught artists to illustrate printed materials with great circulation such as booklets, magazines and newspapers show very elaborate technical and stylistic features, which contrast with the rustic type of work most valued by scholar circles. The brazilian example thus allows us to review notions well settled in Brazil and in Europe and also to suggest new perspectives to approach the popular art piece

This work presents the Armorial Movement and Armorial Music as knowledge fields, using as reference the scholarly work of the popular composer Capiba (Lourenço da Fonseca Barbosa), his link with the author and playwright Ariano Suassuna and an analysis of his Grande Missa Armorial. The geographical space of this research is concentrated between the states of Pernambuco and Paraíba in the Northeast of Brazil and applies to the period between 1946 and 2000 (XX century). This thesis observes the reaction of the music community and about this "new" sonority. The Armorial Movement has provoked a dynamism in the way of transition of a traditional and popular music can be translated in a musical language. Other Masses will also be mentioned: Kyrie / Gloria (Unfinished Mass) by Cussy de Almeida, the Missa Nordestina by Clovis Pereira and The Mass of Alcaçus by Danilo Guanais

In the context of globalization and in the race among international languages for conquering new "market shares", we can observe the rise of strong institutional language policies for the promotion of the Spanish language all over the world. Since the late 1990s, the ‘corpus’ and ‘status’ planning of the Spanish language has become a priority for Spain: it aims to provide the means which are necessary to implement a Pan-Hispanic language policy device whose masterpieces are the Royal Spanish Academy and the Cervantes Institute. This new Pan-Hispanic language policy seeks firstly, to position the Spanish language as an international or global language next to English, and secondly, to strengthen the links among the Spanish-speaking countries. This institutional language policy responds to a global geopolitical and economic strategy whose ideological foundations are analyzed in this thesis.Due to their economic and demographic weight, some markets are more attractive to the Spanish foreign language policymakers. This is the case of Brazil where Spanish has a strong presence facilitated by the setting up of many Spanish multinational companies and by the creation of Mercosur. The Pan-Hispanic language policy also tends to have an impact on the linguistic norms. While involving, at least in discourse, a transition from a monocentric model of standardization to a pluricentric one that takes into account all the regional standards of Spanish, this transition raises the very question of the language model that should be chosen for Spanish language teaching. This question may be problematic in some complex geographical and institutional contexts as this study endeavors to show with the case of Brazil.Based on interviews conducted with the teachers of the Cervantes Institute in Brazil, this thesis aims at identifying teachers’ representations of the Spanish linguistic norm while trying to establish a dialogue between institutional, scientific and journalistic epilinguistic discourses and teachers’ epilinguistic discourses about the Spanish linguistic promotion
