Code-mixing and code-switching can effectively deal with the complex communicative demands that arise when participants have varied levels of linguistic ability. This paper aimed to examine the types and the functions of code-mixing and code-switching uttered by Cinta Laura Kiehl in Okay Boss Trans7’s Talk Show on 23/06/2020, entitled “Ada Apa Dengan Cinta Laura Kiehl dan Aero'' (What happened to Cinta Laura Kiehl and Aero). The design of this study used a qualitative descriptive method. Data were gathered from the talk show in written data. An explanatory sample was used to analyze the collected data. The findings revealed 27 data of code-mixings used by Cinta Laura Kiehl: 19 were intra-sentential code-mixing, and eight were intra-lexical code-mixing. Besides, 19 data of code-switching were identified: 10 were intra-sentential switching, eight were inter-sentential switching, and one was emblematic code-switching. Furthermore, the most dominant function of code-mixing was incompetence, with 15 data, and the most dominant function of code-switching was covering the ability to speak a specific language, with eight data. The study results are expected to contribute to students and lecturers of English and researchers engaging in sociolinguistic research to explore further the purpose of using code-mixing and code-switching in conversation.

AbstractPaul S. Minear was one of the pre-eminent American biblical scholars of the 20th century. He died just after his 101st birthday in February 2007. Minear retired as a professor in 1971 from Yale University Divinity School. He was a prolific author and a member of the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches; President of Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas (1964-65); President of The American Theological Society (1965-66); and member of the committee that produced the New Revised Standard Version (1967-88). The summary of his life and commitments introduces his last article, written at the age of 100. It is followed by a comprehensive bibliography of his books and published articles compiled by Laura Sweat.

Antonio de Torquemada nos ofrece en su obra Olivante de Laura las alusiones a prendas propias de los libros de caballerías; sin embargo, aporta una novedad frente a otras de su género pues la trama cuestiona la validez del vestido como elemento marcador de jerarquía. La noción medieval de «cada uno según su estado» se convierte así en objeto de debate por parte de los propios personajes. El héroe viste con ropas no acordes con su estatus para poder acercarse a su amada, al igual que hacían las gentes dela época para poder conseguir sus fines. A partir de este hecho, Torquemada muestra sutilmente los cambios que la sociedad está sufriendo y cómo se hace necesario establecer en vez del vestido, otro elemento más eficaz que pueda representar las jerarquías sociales, como pudiera ser el linaje o la sangre.Antonio de Torquemada displays in Olivante de Laura the typical references to clothing and textiles used in other chivalric books. However, he innovates as he questions the capacity for dress to convey hierarchy. The medieval notion of dressing «according to one´s status» becomes now the central topic for debate about which the main characters discuss. Following the Renaissance trend, the hero disguiseshimself as a shepherd in order to approach his loved one. His behavior is a reflection of the times, when people also wear clothes not appropriate to their status. It is from here that Torquemada subtly shows the way society is changing and claims for a new and more effective method to determine and measure hierarchy. Clothing will no longer be valid, he then proposes linage.

O psiquiatra francês Georges Lantéri-Laura utilizou-se do conceito de “paradigma”, trabalhado por T. S. Kuhn, para dar conta da racionalidade e da história da psicopatologia. No seu Ensaio sobre os paradigmas da psiquiatria moderna, Lantéri-Laura estabeleceu três paradigmas, situados entre o final do século XVIII e o final do século XX. O primeiro paradigma tem em seu centro a ideia de alienação mental. O segundo trabalha com a noção de que existem as doenças mentais. O terceiro vale-se da noção de estrutura e define as grandes estruturas psicopatológicas. Dessa forma, este ensaio teórico teve como ponto de partida a revisão histórica das tradições psiquiátricas realizada por Lantéri-Laura, buscando avançar e incluir as discussões contemporâneas na proposta de defender um quarto paradigma psiquiátrico orientado pelo conceito de síndrome. Nesse estudo é possível identificar duas lógicas psicopatológicas bastante distintas – uma psicanalítica e outra comportamental –, na qual se funda o Diagnostic and statistic manual of mental disorders (DSM), manual da Associação Americana de Psiquiatria (APA). Para tal fez-se necessária a elaboração de um breve contexto da DSM e de suas cinco edições sobre as principais críticas a esse sistema classificatório. Por fim, discute-se o destino do sistema DSM em face dos novos sistemas diagnósticos emergentes e se conclui que a psicopatologia é um campo diacrônico, em que as mudanças e as atualizações são constantes e necessárias.

Spatial relation between wind stress and storm surge during two hurricanes in 2020 is investigated. It is found that, during Laura’s landfall, the area inside of 65 knots (34 m s -1) isotach or line of equal wind speed can produce up to 18 ft (5.5 m) inundation and during Delta, the area inside of 50 knots (26 m s -1) up to 11 ft (3.3 m) high water level above the ground. The tropical cyclone (TC) surface analysis near landfall by the Regional and Mesoscale Meteorology Branch (RAMMB) is recommended as a first approximation for coastal environmental and engineering applications during a TC.

The monastery founded in the fifth century by St Sabas, in the Kidron Valley a few kilometres south-east of Bethlehem, has been described as ‘the crucible of Byzantine Orthodoxy’. The original cave cell occupied by Sabas himself grew into a monastic community of the laura type, in which monks lived during the week in individual cells practising private prayer and craft work, but met for communal liturgy on Saturdays, Sundays and feast days. The laura, which differed from the coenobium in the greater emphasis placed on individual meditation, prayer and work, was the most distinctive contribution of the Palestinian tradition to early Christian monasticism. The first laura had been founded in the Judean desert in the fourth century by Chariton, and cenobitic monasteries had been in existence in Palestine both in the desert and on the coastal strip since the same period. Nevertheless, partly as a result of an extensive network of contacts with other foundations, both laurae and cenobitic monasteries, partly through Sabas s own fame as an ascetic, and partly through a burgeoning reputation for theological orthodoxy, St Sabas became the representative institution of Palestinian monasticism in the period between the fifth century and the Persian invasion of 614. The monastery’s capacity to withstand the Persian and Arab invasions of the seventh century, and to adapt to the cultural changes brought by Arabicization, ensured not only its survival but also its continued importance as a disseminator of monastic practice throughout the early Middle Ages. In 1099, when the first crusaders conquered the Holy Land, it was almost the sole survivor of the ‘golden age’ of Palestinian desert monasticism of the early Byzantine period. The monastery continued to prosper under crusader rule. It was an important landowner and its abbot was in the twelfth century a confrater of the Knights Hospitaller. Moreover, it is clear both from varied genres of external documentary sources – for example, pilgrimage accounts and hagiographies – and from the surviving manuscripts produced in the monastery between the eleventh and thirteenth centuries, that the monastery’s spiritual life also flourished in this period. The role of St Sabas and Palestinian monasticism within the broader scope of Byzantine monastic reform of the eleventh and twelfth centuries suggests that the continuing function of the monastery at the centre of a wider network of practices and ideals across the Orthodox world engendered a revival of early monastic practices in a period more often associated with decline and the struggle to preserve the integrity of monastic life.

Since the emergence of the feminist movement, the distortion of feminine identity and sexuality is profoundly discoursed in relation to literature and other genres of art. This research has endeavoured to articulate how female identity and sexuality is portrayed in Sri Lankan cinema with reference to selected work of veteran filmmaker, Asoka Handagama. The sample comprises of the award-winning movies, “Thani Thatuwen Piyambanna” (Flying with One Wing, 2002), “Aksharaya” (A Letter of Fire, 2005) and “Aege Aesa Aga” (Let Her Cry, 2016) which features three significant female characters and their plight in patriarchal society. The researcher has deployed Laura Mulvey’s Male Gaze Theory which examines the voyeuristic and scopophilic representation of women in media along with the Lacanian and Freudian concepts of gaze as the theoretical approach of the study. The research was predominantly conducted utilizing the qualitative approach while textual analysis and interviews focusing on the director of the selected films, critics and academics were the major tools of primary data collection. The secondary data was collected through research publications, newspaper articles, the internet and magazines. The hermeneutic approach was deployed in interpreting the sample and the collected data focusing on the connection between the selected sample and the broader discourses. Even though Laura Mulvey exemplifies that women are always being projected as passive objects in cinema, the findings of the study reveal that the selected sample represents the female figure as a more assertive and emphatic entity regardless of the persistent patriarchal norms.

The Petrus region, extending around the upper stream of the Great Morava, the Grza and the Jovanovacka Reka, was not inhabited in Czar Dusan?s reign. The Czar?s charter indicates that it was a wasteland (pustos), which Zupan Vukosav and his sons Drzman and Crep were bequeathed. The wasteland was soon populated through internal and external colonisation. As early as in 1360, the nobility of the Virgin of Petrus, a foundation of the Vukoslavic family, had five villages in their possession. The Vukoslavic family formed another metochion on their land which they donated to the Athonite monastery of Laura of St Athanasius. The censuses of these metochia give information on internal colonisation. A considerable amount of text was written on the ruralisation of the Vlachs as an aspect of internal and external colonisation.

In this essay, it examines the film The Birds and analyzes the scenes necessary to advance the men’s desires in the film's presentation as a result of the director and screenwriter's unfair scripting and arrangement of female characters. These unequal arrangements were thought to satisfy the 1860s male moviegoer's desire for both power and beauty, and to have negative impacted the feminism that was gradually manifesting itself in Hollywood films. Proven by Laura Mulvey' s argument that the portrayal of women in Hollywood films has been maliciously distorted. While this essay will focus on Alfred Hitchcock's horror thrillers--The Birds.

Nos proponemos analizar la producción de tres escritoras viajeras/migrantes. Dos europeas de distintas épocas: Lina Beck Bernard (mitad del S. XIX) y Laura Pariani (segunda mitad del S. XX) y una argentina con residencia en Europa: Cecilia Prenz (entre siglos). Las tres en sus desplazamientos hacia y desde la Argentina, vivieron de modo personal la experiencia del contacto de mundos, generando en sus ficcionalizaciones y textos autobiográficos, una particular mirada (es) trábica (Crolla, 2008-2014). Para ello proponemos ampliar la categoría de “discursos migrantes” y “escritores migrantes” hacia la reflexión sobre el modo cómo la mujer conquista un espacio de escritura “otro” cruzando fronteras desde la mirada, la lectura y el discurso. Y en donde la traslación física y el contacto físico con “lo otro” determina posicionamientos políticos, estéticos y lingüísticos altamente significantes en sus propias tras/laciones discursivas.

En este artículo se explora la reconfiguración del espacio, entendido como un lugar donde se imponen valores (hetero)normativos dominantes y se despliegan regímenes visuales, en la obra de tres artistas contemporáneas: Eulàlia Valldosera, Olga Diego y Alicia Framis. El texto sitúa la escena en la Norteamérica de los años sesenta y la emergencia del arte feminista para luego explorar el contexto español y catalán, anotando las reticencias iniciales a su recepción, así como sus huellas invisibles, discontinuidades y ausencias. Se analiza, a continuación, una selección de series fotográficas, instalaciones y performances de estas artistas para mostrar cómo sus intervenciones feministas en el espacio deconstruyen sistemas de poder. Mi análisis se basa en varias teorías feministas, como la noción de la mirada masculina de Laura Mulvey, el análisis sobre la producción del género y la identidad sexual de Paul B. Preciado y las relaciones de género que se establecen en los espacios urbanos de Elisabeth Wilson.

The relevance of the research is determined by its focus on the study of the corpus of parenthesis in the modern English language within the framework of the general science issue ‘man and the language’. The study is novel in that it is carried out using evidence from modern English literature (texts written by S. King, J. Barnes, D. Mitchell, J. Coe, Laura van den Berg). This article will be of interest to researchers dealing with problems of parenthesis in modern English and to specialists in semantic syntax.
