Abstract (sommario):
The Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a rapidly growing technology that enables transport of voice over data networks such as Ethernet Local Area Networks (LANs). This growth is due to the integration of voice and data traffic over the existing network infrastructure, low cost, and improved network management offered by the technology. This paper reports on the performance of VoIP traffic characteristics in a wired-cum-wireless Ethernet LAN. The effect of increasing the number of VoIP wireless clients, different voice codec schemes, and packet arrival distributions on system performance is investigated. Through various simulation experiments under realistic network scenarios, such as Small Office Home Office (SOHO) and campus networks, this paper provides an insight into the performance of VoIP over Ethernet LANs. Simulation results show that VoIP clients and voice codec schemes have significant effect on system performance. The authors preformed OPNET-based simulations to validate their experiments.

Abstract (sommario):
Local area networks (LANs) are probably the most flexible and adaptable to customizing communications systems. LANs can virtually fit any location/site requirements. They can be tailored for any number of users, any application type and any cost/performance ratio. LANs can work with small (micro computers), medium (mini computers) and large/complex (mainframe) systems. This great flexibility which is due to several factors like, distributed architecture design, software standards, and hardware independence technology make LANs easy to use in a computer laboratory environment. Currently, many hospitality institutions are investigating the feasibility of using LANs in their computer laboratory. However, LANs are still costly, and sometimes difficult to install.

Abstract (sommario):
Internet of Things (IoT) technology makes it possible to monitor and control environmental conditions and electronic devices remotely via the internet. To be used as a monitoring and control tool, the IoT must be able to be operated in realtime. IoT must be able to provide information about an environmental condition and control electronic devices in real time. In this study a remote lighting control system was built using Firebase as a database that is able to turn on/off lights in realtime. The system is built using NodeMCU ESP8266 and android applications so that it is easier to implement on smartphones. The purpose of this study is to perform a performance analysis of firebase as a database that is able to update data in real time via the internet. Testing is done using various types of network connections such as 3G networks, 4G networks, and Local Area Networks (LANs). The test results show that Firebase supports the application of IoT that is capable of updating data in realtime, but the type of network connection used provides a varied delay effect. The average delay generated on 3G networks, 4G networks and LANs is 3.57 seconds, 1.42 seconds and 1.4 seconds.

Abstract (sommario):
The world’s reliance the use of the internet is growing constantly, and data are considered the most precious parameter nowadays. It is critical to keep information secure from unauthorized people and organizations. When a network is compromised, information is taken. An intrusion detection system detects both known and unexpected assaults that allow a network to be breached. In this research, we model an intrusion detection system trained to identify such attacks in LANs, and any computer network that uses data. We accomplish this by employing neural networks, a machine learning technique. We also investigate how well our model performs in multiclass categorization scenarios. On the NSL-KDD dataset, we investigate the performance of Convolutional Neural Networks such as CNN and CNN with LSTM. Our findings suggest that utilizing Convolutional Neural Networks to identify network intrusions is an effective strategy.

Abstract (sommario):
Integration of the wireless LANs (WLAN) and 3G networks, such as Universal Mobile Telecommunication Service (UMTS), has been intensively studied recently due to their complementary characteristics. In this paper, we design and implement a flexible protocol stack architecture which can support concurrent transmission via multiple radio interfaces. Furthermore, the multiple services with various QoS requirements are differentiated and transported in the best wireless access network which is determined by the proposed network selection criterion-- Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM), in the heterogeneous wireless network. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed concurrent transmission scheme improves the network utility and provide the QoS services among the multiple wireless access networks more efficiently.

Abstract (sommario):
Bandwidth load balancing is a critical technique for improving the quality of service (QoS) in local area networks (LANs). Insufficient load balancing and QoS utilization can lead to network congestion, reduced performance, latency, packet loss, and an overall degradation of network performance. This paper presents an overview of load balancing techniques, load balancing algorithms, QoS parameters, load balancing strategies, and considerations for calculating bandwidth. The challenges of implementing load balancing algorithms and preferences for their implementation are discussed. Accurate network measurements and monitoring, coordination between network devices, security and privacy considerations, and careful evaluation of load balancing algorithms are among the challenges faced. The paper also discusses optimization and monitoring of bandwidth use, including options such as increasing bandwidth, bandwidth throttling, and data transfer throttling. The findings presented in this paper provide insights into the importance of load balancing and QoS in LANs and offer guidance for addressing related challenges.

Abstract (sommario):
We introduce an open-source, scalable, and distributed architecture, called Megalos, that supports the implementation of virtual network scenarios consisting of virtual devices (VDs) where each VD may have several Layer 2 interfaces assigned to virtual LANs. We rely on Docker containers to realize vendor-independent VDs and we leverage Kubernetes for the management of the nodes of a distributed cluster. Our architecture does not require platform-specific configurations and supports a seamless interconnection between the virtual environment and the physical one. Also, it guarantees the segregation of each virtual LAN traffic from the traffic of other LANs, from the cluster traffic, and from Internet traffic. Further, a packet is only sent to the cluster node containing the recipient VD. We produce several example applications where we emulate large network scenarios, with thousands of VDs and LANs. Finally, we experimentally show the scalability potential of Megalos by measuring the overhead of the distributed environment and of its signaling protocols.

Abstract (sommario):

The main interesting aspect of the digital era is the widely spread ease of communication from one end of the world to the other end of the world. There is a revolution in communication, digitalization, globalization, video calling, wireless data transfer and this is possible due to networking. Initially computer networks is the data sharing where data such as documents, file, reports, presentation files, videos, images etc can be shared within a local network or remotely connected networks. Traditional data networking is to empower end-to-end information transfer. The data in such networks are carried across point-to-point links and the intermediate nodes just forward the packets, where the payload of the packets is not modified. Traditional LANs need wires, which may be difficult to set up in some situations.

It is very much understandable and clearly visible that wired communication is being completely overtaken by wireless technologies in the recent past. Wireless LANs, by its very nature, empowers with increased mobility and flexibility. Wi-Fi devices get connected to the internet through WLAN and access points. 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz ISM bands are used by Wi-Fi. Also, it is to be understood that, a wireless adhoc network is distributed in its nature. It is also to be noted that, the adhoc nature makes these network to rely on any of the pre-existing infrastructure. The data forwarding shall happen from the nodes very much dynamically based on the connectivity and the routing algorithm used.

Abstract (sommario):
Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) have become an increasingly popular mode of communication and networking, with a wide range of applications in various fields. However, the increasing popularity of WLANs has also led to an increase in security threats, including denial of service (DoS) attacks. In this study, management-frames-based DoS attacks, in which the attacker floods the network with management frames, are particularly concerning as they can cause widespread disruptions in the network. Attacks known as denial of service (DoS) can target wireless LANs. None of the wireless security mechanisms in use today contemplate defence against them. At the MAC layer, there are multiple vulnerabilities that can be exploited to launch DoS attacks. This paper focuses on designing and developing an artificial neural network (NN) scheme for detecting management-frames-based DoS attacks. The proposed scheme aims to effectively detect fake de-authentication/disassociation frames and improve network performance by avoiding communication interruption caused by such attacks. The proposed NN scheme leverages machine learning techniques to analyse patterns and features in the management frames exchanged between wireless devices. By training the NN, the system can learn to accurately detect potential DoS attacks. This approach offers a more sophisticated and effective solution to the problem of DoS attacks in wireless LANs and has the potential to significantly enhance the security and reliability of these networks. According to the experimental results, the proposed technique exhibits higher effectiveness in detection compared to existing methods, as evidenced by a significantly increased true positive rate and a decreased false positive rate.
