Abstract (sommario):
In the context of rural revitalization, the establishment of eco-architecture plays a crucial role in promoting the sustainable development of rural landscapes. Eco-architecture that encompasses aesthetic features serves as an ideal option for rural development. The Xijiang Qianhu Miaozhai stands as the largest Miao settlement in China. Its Diaojiao Building, situated on the mountain, seamlessly integrates ecological, aesthetic, and ethnic cultural elements. It exemplifies the successful merging of ecological architecture and landscape aesthetics. This paper thoroughly examines the Diaojiao Building from the standpoint of landscape aesthetics and ecological architecture. Extensive exploration is conducted to uncover the aesthetic characteristics and landscape value with this unique architectural style. Through comparisons with other prevalent architectural types, this research identifies the ecological architectural attributes specific to the timber-frame building. Ultimately, the study concludes by offering insights into the methodology of rural ecological architecture, grounded in the perspective of landscape aesthetics.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract. The study presents the results of architectural and vegetation survey missions in the UNESCO site of Quinta da Regaleira in the city of Sintra, Portugal. The different types of connecting elements of the epigean and hypogean architectures in the Park are analysed through the disciplinary tools of architectural design. Surveys and models of some of the connecting elements are proposed for an understanding of the site and its subsequent protection and valorisation through digital documentation. Of great interest is the architectural and social relationship that the site establishes with the city of Sintra. The survey of epigean architecture considered the following: the Casa da Renasceça, the Capela, the Cocheiras, the Estufa, the Oficina das Artes, the Loggia dos Pisoes, the Casa dos Ibis, the Torre da Regaleira the Terraço dos Mundos Celestes and the Fonte da Abundância. The survey of underground architecture considered the following architectures: the Gruta do Labirinto, the Gruta da Leda, the Lago da Cascata, the Gruta do Aquario, the Gruta do Oriente, the Portal dos Guardiães, the Poço Imperfeito and the Poço Iniziático. The work constitutes a complete and accurate analysis, represented through technical drawings, in different scales, digital point clouds and 3D modelling for the visualisation of the architecture in the Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra.

Abstract (sommario):
This study constitutes the latest reflection on pedagogical research and experimental pedagogical projects involving the representation, design, and computation of ambiances. Led by the author at various architecture schools in France, Japan, and the United States, these creative explorations involving drawings and models offer ways to realize, feel, and fabricate architecture. The projects described were conducted in 2018 in courses offered by the Department of Architecture, Stuckeman School, College of Arts and Architecture at the Pennsylvania State University. They show that architectural productions are not static objects, but instead render a dynamic landscape itself nested within a changing milieu. Through these projects, by looking closely at the parameters of spatial effects, students engaged in processes of design taking movement into account in meaningful ways.

Abstract (sommario):
Parametric design, driven by digital technology, has sparked extensive research and debate in the domains of architecture and urban planning, offering a new approach to issue solving. Architecture and landscape architecture, like architecture and urban planning, are disciplines that are part of the artificial environment. Architectural landscape design has begun to be influenced by parametric design. This study presents a more technical parametric design technique of architectural landscape design that involves artificial intelligence parametric analysis and proposes an architectural landscape planning and design method that incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) parametric analysis. This is a new discipline of concurrent design that complements and expands architectural landscape design methodologies and is based on artificial intelligence methods. This study integrates artificial intelligence parametric design theory and methodology into architectural landscape design and presents a parametric method appropriate for landscape architecture design based on architectural landscape architecture characteristics.

Abstract (sommario):
In the past the image of Czech countryside was created by agricultural and social activities of the rural population in a significant manner. These activities related to natural elements and to the creation of landscape in a wider sense can be described as folk landscape architecture. Its object is mainly the spatial arrangement and assortment composition of vegetation and its functionality in villages and in their landscape environment. This study defines these activities as time limited regional (local) customary practices of agricultural and cultural and social character, reflected especially in the spatial arrangement and assortment composition of vegetation elements. Vegetation and other natural elements are evaluated as functional singularities and as functional systems in relation to particular structures, type of village pattern and state of the surrounding landscape. Besides the methodical categorisation of evaluated objects principles for their use in different forms of land-use planning are defined. A significant result of this study is the definition of landscape architecture as a phenomenon of the rural population lifestyle in which not only the past but also the future of rural landscape is reflected.

Abstract (sommario):
The article discusses the interaction between the wind regime and the landscape. Examples of objects of landscape architecture in high-tech and science-intensive spheres, such as the launch pad of a spacecraft, are given. Wind protection is represented as a result of work on wind power engineering and a means of increasing bioclimatic comfort. The terms of landscape architecture are disclosed and mutual influence on the climate and impact on woody-shrub vegetation and field crops are analyzed. The phenomenon of air permeability for optimal operation of windproof structures and orientations of geoplastics and dendroplastics is described. In this paper, a classification of terrain types is described with a description of their elemental composition, as well as various categories of landscape. The proposal to consider the landscape as a territorial complex, and landscape buildings, landscape-architectural structures as objects of landscape architecture possessing properties of wind protection and air permeability was introduced. Thus, the concept of a landscape-architectural complex as a single group of landscape-architectural objects located on the territory and connected by a common system of communications, functions, technical elements and a visual image is formulated. Further research is based on the rationale for the use of the term ensemble in relation to the objects of the landscape and architectural complex and the identification of their design and planning features that can affect the parameters of wind protection and air permeability. The paper concludes that frequent coincidence of favorable for the fauna wind regime and mimicry of landscape architecture objects. The combination in the landscape of functions for wind protection and aesthetics is analyzed with analysis of such elements of landscape architecture as hedges and windproof properties of green plantations. In the work examples of wind engineering small architectural forms are shown in the form of sculptures moving from air streams, which also change the speed and direction of the wind. All this is generalized in further directions of research within the framework of the designated terrain theme, bioclimatic comfort and wind protection.

Abstract (sommario):
The article approaches ‘landscape architecture’, insisting on the term ‘architecture’ as describing landscape formations accepted as structured systems of composed, perceptual elements presenting organizational and aesthetic value. The central idea of this proposal refers to the key concept that design systems do not copy reality in its full complicated substance; they simply cannot manage to represent and work with the complex totality of the real surrounding world. They rather design abstract formational elements that ‘schematize’ reality and create composing syntactic systems, composing ‘languages’. It was in this context that modern 20th-century garden designers insisted on the comparison of landscape design approaches with architectural abstract building plans or abstract early 20th century-paintings. However, analogous correlations may also be regarded in the opposite orientation. Thus, contemporary architectural projects are often described as ‘landscape formations’ in a period of environmental sensitivity combined with enlarged topological awareness; the latter presents earth bas-relief as a convincing metaphor of topological mathematical transformations in general, associated with computational ‘animate’ design. Nevertheless, the principal aim of the article is firstly to insist on the interchangeable approaches of hard-scape architectural design and green-scape design in terms of analogous abstract and schematized formations. Moreover, the present article intends to propose a possible didactic strategy of landscape design for architects or students in schools of architecture and for attendees already accustomed to building or hard-scape urban design. This design didactic strategy is principally founded on the concept that common abstract ‘schematized’ formations underlie all those practices: landscape design as well as building and urban design.

Abstract (sommario):
The COVID-19 pandemic, with its lockdowns and mobility restrictions, has created an atmosphere of global reflection towards contemporary urban landscapes. Architecture is an essential component in them and determines, to a large extent, how building users perceive, interpret, and value the surrounding environment. From an experiential and phenomenological perspective, and taking into account the situations lived in 2020, the paper invites to examine the existing relations between architecture and urban landscape at three levels: first, the experience of the environment from the architectural space —namely, the home—; second, the experience of the “interior urban landscape” at street level; and finally, the experience of the “exterior urban landscape” from the city fringe or vantage points that provide vast prospects. The article advocates a holistic understanding of landscapes from the architectural and planning practice and proposes this integrating issue as the guiding axis of new urban policies.

In the art of environmental design, architecture, landscape architecture and interiors need to be balanced through interdisciplinary collaborative planning to enhance the psycho-emotional quality of environment, and in this respect, the study of the interaction of landscapes and indoor space through comparative analysis and inductive reference continue. Enclosed by evergreen Vacciniosa type of forest, the impressive building of the new Roja Stage / Summer Concert Hall has been standing proudly on the shores of the Gulf of Riga since 2019. The building actively contrasts with the surrounding landscape. The language of architectural forms in glass and concrete is geometrically sharp, saturated with broken lines and planes in contrast to the adjacent natural landscape, pine forest. The specific detailed case study underlines the importance of balanced interdisciplinary collaboration in harmonious interaction between architecture, landscape and indoor space.

Abstract This research explains how the application of green architecture in vernacular landscapes with a case study in The Ciptagelar Traditional Village, which is in the Mount Halimun National Park Area, Sukabumi Regency. This village has an area of 4,096 hectares and is administratively located in Sukabumi Regency, Lebak Regency, and Bogor Regency. The entire area is still a forest, or leuweung, in Sundanese. A vernacular landscape is a landscape with certain characteristics that have been developed and designed for generations by civilians, without the intervention of architects or landscape experts. This research will identify and describe the application of 6 principles of green architecture according to Brenda and Robert Vale, 1991, Green Architecture Design for Sustainable Future: Conserving Energy, Working with Climate, Respect for Site, Respect for Users, Limiting New Resources, and Holistic. With the qualitative method approach, this research finds that The Ciptagelar Traditional Village has applied green architectural principles to its landscape, although the concept of living is based on customary regulations and ancestral culture that has been carried out for generations (vernacular landscape).

Abstract (sommario):
I was not the first to pose this question; it was first asked in print by Garrett Eckbo, one of the most important landscape architects in America in the twentieth century. One could equally reverse the question and ask: ‘Is architecture landscape?’. In either formulation the question is about the relationship between two arts that are normally understood as separate professions these days. In fact, Eckbo was not the first to puzzle over this issue, even if his exact formulation had no antecedents. The question had already been posed in the nineteenth century, when landscape architecture emerged as a distinct discipline. The early theorists of the field, Humphry Repton and John Claudius Loudon in England, Antoine-Chrysostome Quatremère de Quincy in France, and Andrew Jackson Downing in the USA, all wondered about the relationships between these two practices – if indeed they were two. The professional accrediting and licensing bodies that were formed subsequently tried to settle the matter and institutionalise the distinction. But the question may be older, for it is possible to say that the distinction between these disciplines, at least the suggestion of fundamental differences, was debated even earlier in the eighteenth century. The cases I have in mind include the Abbé Laugier and William Chambers; the first compared the routes through a forest to the streets of a town, while the second used landscape aesthetics to evaluate the merits of a building's facade. Despite this tradition and indeed maybe because of it, the questions these theorists asked have not disappeared in our time.

Abstract (sommario):
The pop-up architecture (or landscape architecture) becomes popular nowadays. Some highlights include annual architecture program such as the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion at Hyde Park, London; MPavilion in Melbourne; MoMA PS1 and Heart Sculpture in New York. Many of these pop-up architectural works have been designed by world renowned architects, such as Zaha Hadid, Rem Koolhaas, Hezorg and de Meuron, Jean Nouvel, Toyo Ito, SANAA, Shigeru Ban, BIG, etc. And many of these designs reflect innovative thinking that changes the professional world of architectural design. But above all, these pop-up architectures were created in responsive manner to the urban community and the community controversially has good response to this type of architecture. In the other words, pop-up architecture is the way the architects touch the heartbeat of the cities, make them livable for all. Ho Chi Minh City has its own types of pop-up landscape architecture, whereas this paper intends to explore in two case studies: Nguyen Hue Floral Boulevard and Nguyen Van Binh Book Street. Nguyen Hue Floral Street is celebrating now its twelfth birthday in the city. Nguyen Van Binh Book Street has just passed its first anniversary in 2017. Both cases live its own story behind the scene about how livable a city could be through place-making by architecture and landscape design. Throughout these cases, we would like to find out how this type of pop-up landscape architecture being realized and become popular in Ho Chi Minh City, and how it is devoted to a livable city for all.

Abstract (sommario):
Since WWII to the 2000s, numerous masters of contemporary architecture have contributed to the construction of new landscapes with their works; therefore, these places have become part of a changing landscape and of the multifaceted process of landscape generation. Nevertheless, during this fifty-year period, capitalism has led to the destruction of many existing landscapes, and the policies of protection and preservation have often entailed a process of musealization. In 2000, the European Landscape Convention adopted a new common-grounded definition of landscape, integrating a wide set of cultural approaches and disciplinary topics. Starting from the assumption that contemporary architecture and urban projects can generate high-quality landscapes, this paper investigates the link between the architecture and the landscape, taking the opportunity to catalogue the second half of twentieth-century architecture and urban projects in Sicily as part of the national cataloguing activity “Ereditare il Presente” promoted by the Italian Ministry of Culture. Using the Ministry-proposed cataloguing procedure and adding a quality assessment methodology of buildings and urban projects, this study has produced a theoretical and applicative advancement on how architecture and urban projects of the second half of the twentieth century should be offered as a dynamic component of sustainable human settlement planning under SDG11 “sustainable cities and communities”.

Abstract (sommario):
The issues of developing the method of visual and landscape assessment of territories to create objects of landscape architecture are considered. It is shown that creation of landscape architecture objects in urbanized environment follows a complex of pre-project studies including works on perception of a number of spatial factors influencing directly the design decisions. Of great importance in this regard is the study of a system of spaces of various types, as particularly valuable elements of the landscape architecture environment and its components. The components of such an environment are space as the main landscape resource with facilities for recreation and tourism. A search has been made for a method of visual and landscape assessment of the territory of a landscape facility, including the need to address methodological issues to identify the relationship between large-scale open spaces and local objects and the details of the landscape architecture facility (i.e., from the general to the private); to determine the typological characteristics of the studied spaces, to assess the perception of the analyzed type of space in terms of its architectural and landscape, functional and planning importance and aesthetic expressiveness; to determine the conditions for perception and conditions for evaluation of local objects and their individual components (structures, parts, small architectural forms, greenery), to understand the route networks that unite the spatial structure of the studied object with its functional purpose.

Abstract (sommario):
The landscape genre is painting and contemplation through the creation of the architect and professor, doctor of architecture, associate professor Eugen Bognibov, from the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Urbanism and Architecture, Technical University of Moldova. The landscape was certainly one of the favorite types of painting of professional artists, but also for lovers of beauty. The predilection of the architect and painter Eugen Bognibov for the landscape genre can be explained by the fact that the Moldovan lands offer an enormous variety of views and possibilities to practice the landscape: reliefs, forested hills, hills, steppes, roads winding through vineyards, and orchards, cities and villages, water pools, architectural monuments of stone and wood, a true cultural heritage of the country. And the author remarks that the painting dedicated to the architect and professor Eugen Bognibov represents the state of lyricism and harmony, is the link between man and nature, which is distinguished by the colorful freshness of urban, rural, forest landscapes, etc. Various painted views of the historical area of his hometown, Chisinau, images of the morning city bathed in the rays of the generous sun or landscapes near the village of Butuceni, etc. Therefore, the motivation for painting and landscape became for the architect Eugen Bognibov, a free manifestation of his creation through paintings with saturated colors, works presented in various exhibitions

Abstract (sommario):
With the dawn of the knowledge economy, China's university campus construction has reached its pinnacle. However, there are numerous issues with the related construction process, such as scale imbalances, architectural style convergence, loss of environmental characteristics, and a lack of spirit of place on many university campuses, all of which eventually lead to incompatibility between campus architecture and landscape environment, dilution of campus cultural atmosphere, and lack of sustenance for university humanistic spirit. The quality of the campus landscape has become a key criterion for judging the campus environment, as it has a significant impact on the overall environment, image, and quality of the campus. To improve the quality of the campus landscape environment, landscape design must be considered as part of architectural planning and design, and campus architecture and landscape must be integrated. Campus landscape engineering construction has a full life cycle, and construction safety has an impact on the overall situation. To ensure construction safety throughout the life cycle, a solid mathematical model of construction safety management should be established. This paper proposes using Building Information Modeling (BIM) to conduct research on landscape security, starting with the development of university campus landscapes and using mobile edge computing technology.

Abstract (sommario):
The profession of landscape architecture has been firmly established in Thailand and has continued to flourish for over 40 years. Throughout this time, landscape architecture has made important contributions in improving environments, the people’s quality of life, and the aesthetics of Thailand’s cities and communities. This research discusses the development of the landscape architecture profession and design concepts in Thailand from the beginning to present to understand how landscape architecture has been cultivated through the processes of adaptation and appropriation. The major contents of this research were obtained from the analysis of interviews conducted with 20 practitioners of landscape architecture firms in Thailand. The topics of discussion include multiple factors affecting the concepts, styles, and typologies of landscape architectural design. The results show that landscape architecture in Thailand has developed in parallel with global design trends since the beginning of this profession. However, contextual factors, particularly socio-economic, political, and environmental issues, also affected the variation of project types and detailed designs. These trends and factors help foster the richness of landscape architecture in Thailand.

Abstract (sommario):
One of the important parameters of the quality of the urban environment is its identity. The concept of identity has a broad context. Identity has mainly been studied in the humanities such as psychology, philology, philosophy, sociology and anthropology. The process of globalization, leading to a blurring of the borders between cultures, is bringing to the fore the problem of national and regional identities in the architecture and landscape of the urban environment. This article examines the actualization of the concept of identity in architecture, urban development and landscape architecture. It focuses on sustainability of national and regional identity manifested through place identity. The main positions of research from other countries with the basis of identity have been analyzed according to the landscape philosophies of the XXI century. Through the analysis of scientific research in the field of cultural science, regional roots, signs and symbols have been identified as a basis for landscape practices in the urban environment of Kazakhstan. The study used complex methods of historical, ethnographic, cultural and architectural landscape studies examining the manifestations of identity in the traditional culture of Kazakhs. It produces a comparative analysis of ideas about identity in Kazakh traditional music, decorative and applied art. It also carries out structural and morphological analysis of project materials on landscape architecture of Kazakhstan. Moreover, a comparative analysis of individual objects of landscape architecture of XX and XXI centuries has been conducted. The paper produces new perspectives on nation-building efforts of Kazakhstan through designed landscapes since independence, elucidating the symbolic language of national identity manifested across major public parks and plazas.

Abstract (sommario):
Global climate changes are threatening the survival of our species. Landscape architecture adaptive to climate change has become a hotspot. Many low-carbon ideas are involved in the process of formation of some regional landscape. This paper discussed the low-carbon ideas in some regional landscape from scientific landscape pattern, technology of using clean energy, usage of local materials, ecological design for construction and so on. These ideas are valuable to modern landscape architecture. In order to create new landscapes accordant with the spirit of the times, more attention should been paid to how to integrate ancient low-carbon ideas, new technology, local characteristics and function into modern landscape architecture.

Abstract (sommario):
Revealing the place addresses the referential role of sacred architecture elements that dot the Portuguese Atlantic coastline in contemporary architectural pedagogy and in the practice of architecture. The long Portuguese coastline, the case study of the research, is dotted with sacred architectural elements—sanctuaries, churches, chapels and crosses—oriented according to both compositional and canonical cosmological principles. The character of the space of articulation between the land and the sea is made evident by the tension between the sacred elements and the landscape. This paper addresses this relation, resorting to decomposition interpretative drawings and arguments that uncover the formal relationships between sacred architecture and the landscape, proposing an interpretative reading of the built elements that combines type and place. Furthermore, it discusses the transposition of composition principles from sacred to secular architecture, building an analogy for the typological transfer process, considering the transference of existing qualities in sacred architecture for contemporary architectural projects. The hypothesis discussed is that the decoding of the architectural composition of sacred elements in the landscape remains useful both in the pedagogy and practice of architecture. Finally, it is evidenced that this exercise allows us to transfer formal relations established between sacred buildings and the landscape for contemporary architectural practice, revealing type and topos.

Abstract (sommario):
The act of designing architecture is based on the use of various models chosen as referents. Such models may come from architecture itself or from the arts like sculpture, painting, music, literature, and so forth. They usually provide the components for architectural design. This stance leads to the notion of architectural design as the construction of a new order derived from elements, examples, or prototypes verified in time by virtue of experience. Thus, the praxis of the design process is mainly referred to as a conscious imitation of models. The thesis of this work is that landscape constitutes one of these models. Landscape should be considered a contemporary model for architectural imitation because it is a concept that reveals a dynamic reality oriented towards the future. The values of landscape produce a wish to emulate it, to assimilate it. In a renewed object–subject relationship, landscape proposes itself as a paramount issue for architectural design. This paper contextualizes and explains what comprises such renewed mimesis and why landscape is a subject that provokes a desire for active emulation in contemporary architecture.

Abstract (sommario):
Expansive learning is a teaching–learning method adopted by the Department of Architecture of Universidad de las Américas Puebla, Mexico, to introduce architectural students to the field of landscape sensitizing. This approach has been especially valuable considering the particular cultural and natural values of the Mexican landscapes. In it, architectural students are introduced to co-configuration strategies along with co-working methods with the participation of specialists and local stakeholders and community on the “barefoot” bottom-up basis. The community of Tochimilco, Puebla, was selected as a case study through which students can learn how vulnerable rural landscapes and their natural environments can be protected, constructed, and developed. Therefore, studying natural landscape and environmental conditions of Tochimilco through data collection, fieldwork and student workshops was carried out to reinforce the understanding of landscape features, values, semiotics, and meanings in a Socio-Ecological System of landscape (SES) framework. In this context, the expansive learning processes revealed the potentiality of architectural students to become environmental facilitators for future design and planning projects to trigger sensitizing and comprehensive approaches. In these terms, architectural education prepares students to recognize and be aware of natural values, landscape narratives and the “barefoot” relationship between the landscape and the human being occupying and cultivating it.

Abstract (sommario):
Contemporary architectural proposals usually have to meet many different criteria. The most important are functionality and aesthetics, as well as rationality understood as a reference to costs. In this approach, the architectural proposal appears as a solution to the typical task considered in the Multi-criteria Decision Theory in the discipline generally referred to as Optimization. The paper presents examples of sixteenthcentury garden compositions, to try to answer the question of what the then residents (aristocrats) and the creators who fulfilled their wishes, were guided by. The homeland of the Renaissance is Italy, and the characteristics of this style were: geometry of space in the form of axial arrangement of rooms, symmetry, sheared forms of evergreen plants, and motifs referring to mythology. The basis of the Renaissance garden composition is a simple network of roads and squares, strongly connected to the main building and the remaining garden architecture. Mathematical principles, such as golden division of the segment and the Fibonacci sequence, were used as a way to bring beauty and balance to a design. This style is characterized by clipped garden ground floors with boxwood and molded vegetation. Roses, tulips, peonies and lavender were planted between shaped hedges. The terrace arrangement of some gardens has forced the creation of additional structures, such as retaining walls, ramps, balustrades and stairs. The paper discusses the subject of the golden division and its share in individual garden compositions. The authors showed many mathematical relationships that architects used when designing the described garden assumptions.
