Abstract (sommario):
Thomas Kuhn tudományfilozófiájának recepciójával a tudományokról való magyar gondolkodás fölzárkózhatott a nemzetközi tendenciákhoz. Ugyanakkor Kuhn elméletének egy speciális, leegyszerűsített és kritikátlan megközelítése vált meghatározóvá, mely figyelmen kívül hagyva Kuhn későbbi korrekciós szándékát, az eredeti, 1962-es könyv koncepciójához ragaszkodott. Az ennek nyomán teret nyerő, sokszor radikális relativizmusba hajló tudományfölfogás nem csupán leegyszerűsítő, ideologikus képet nyújt a tudományokról, hanem egyúttal a tudományos paradigma eredeti kuhni elméletének néhány mozzanatához (így az összemérhetetlenséghez, a kölcsönös megértés nyelvi-fogalmi okok miatti hiányához, és a paradigmaváltás holista szemléletéhez) dogmatikusan ragaszkodva, blokkolja a tudománytörténet sokszínűségének föltárását, elvárva, hogy a tudománytörténeti események minden esetben szigorúan e fölfogásának és fogalmaknak megfelelően kerüljenek értelmezésre. E fölfogást bírálva előbb röviden vázoljuk a tudományos paradigma kuhni fogalmát, majd a kopernikuszi elmélet németországi recepciójával foglalkozó kutatások eredményeit fölhasználva bemutatjuk a ptolemaioszi és a kopernikuszi elmélet kuhni összevetésének tarthatatlanságát. Ennek során egyrészt jelezzük, hogy nem csupán a Kuhnra hivatkozó, de az általa elutasított radikális tudományfilozófiai relativizmus, hanem az eredeti kuhni paradigmaelmélet is alkalmatlan a Kopernikusz-recepció értelmezésére. Másrészt amellett érvelünk, hogy a tudományos paradigma kuhni fogalmának a diszciplináris mátrix eszméjét is fölhasználó, revidiált-strukturált, nem holista változata megfelelő teoretikus eszközt kínál a kopernikuszi recepció első, protestáns fázisának tárgyalására.

A tudományos tudás filozófiai és történeti vonatkozásai elengedhetetlenek a nemzetközi társadalom-földrajzi szakirodalomban érvényesülő, episztemológiailag különböző irányzatok pluralizmusának érdemi megértéséhez. Ezeknek az irányzatoknak a világos és megfelelő közvetítése nélkül a feltehetően posztszocialista állapotban lévő hazai társadalomföldrajzban uralkodó filozófiai identitásválság csak fokozódhat. Thomas S. Kuhn és a társadalomföldrajz találkozása jó esettanulmányt képez a tudománytörténet-írás kontextualista megközelítéseinek bemutatásához. Kuhn gondolatait a tudományos diskurzusok vitáiban folyamatosan kontextusán kívül értelmezték újra, és az aktuális tudományos érdekeknek megfelelően mozgósították fogalmait. A „kvantitatív forradalom” olyan pozitivista narratívát konstruált, amely Kuhn „tudományos forradalmának” kifejezésére és a paradigmák progresszív sorára leegyszerűsített „kuhni modellre” támaszkodott, mindez pedig a múlt újraírását szolgálta a jelen álláspontok érdekében. Később, a „forradalom” kritikai újraértelmezése során a „modell” tudománytörténeti alkalmasságát alapvetően elvetették, annak ellenére, hogy Kuhn több gondolata eredetileg anti-pozitivista és erősen kritikus volt. Ugyanakkor éppen a kritikai átértékelések közepette jelentek meg az első kontextualista gondolatok, melyek nagyon hasonlítottak Kuhn eredeti elképzeléseire az analógiák heurisztikus jelentőségéről, a szemléletek inkommenzurabilitásáról, a pedagógia és a képzés szerepéről a tudósközösségben, de leginkább a prezentista történetírás éles kritizálásáról. A tanulmány célja, hogy bemutassa Kuhn szövegbeli, szemléleti és történelmi kontextusát az angolszász és a magyar interpretációk kritikai elemzésével, hogy ismertesse a kontextualista és szociológiai megközelítéseket a magyar földrajzosok számára a történeti elbeszélés szempontjából.

Abstract (sommario):
O trabalho apresentado teve como o objetivo mostrar como se desenvolve a filosofia de Thomas Kuhn, mais precisamente, sua estrutura científica. De inicio faço uma análise sobre a ciência normal para mostrar como ela funciona no meio científico de acordo com os pensamentos de Kuhn. Porem, quando Karl Popper, Paul Feyerabend e Larry Laudan chegam as conclusões que Kuhn nos mostra em Estruturas das Revoluções Científicas, ás criticas começam a aparecer. Portanto, as críticas perante a ciência normal de Thomas Kuhn são aprofundadas e por fim, a necessidade da resposta de Kuhn sobre as críticas dadas e uma sua tentativa de explicar que ele pode estar correto em suas colocações. Concluimos que as críticas que foram dadas pelos filósofos foram pertinentes já que muito do que foi colocado ainda não havia sido pensado e talvez não teria sido se não fosse levado em consideração todas as críticas dadas por cada um e as críticas ficam ainda mais pertinentes, principalmente pelo recuo nítido que as vezes Kuhn consegue dar com sua retórica; deixando assim, alguns espaços sem soluções e os cientistas acabam por continuar seguindo os manuais de Kuhn.
The work presented has as objective to show how it develops the philosophy of Thomas Kuhn, more precisely, its scientific structure. At first do an analysis of normal science to show how it works in the scientific community according to Kuhn's thoughts. However, when Karl Popper, Paul Feyerabend and Larry Laudan reach the conclusions that Kuhn shows us Structure of Scientific Revolutions, ace critical start to appear. Therefore, the criticism before the normal science Thomas Kuhn are deepened and finally, the need of Kuhn's response on the criticism given and his attempt to explain that he may be correct in their placements. We conclude that the criticisms that have been given by philosophers were appropriate since much of it was placed had not been thought of and perhaps would not have been if it were not taken into account all the criticism given by each and criticisms are even more relevant, especially the sharp decline that sometimes Kuhn can give with his rhetoric; thus leaving some areas without solutions and scientists eventually continue following the Kuhn manuals.

Dissertação para obtenção do Grau de Mestre em História e Filosofia das Ciências
Esta tese procura discutir a legitimidade das afirmações de Karl Popper que consideram Thomas Kuhn um filósofo relativista. As suas acusações estão fundamentadas no seguinte raciocínio: relativismo é a defesa da irracionalidade e esse fenómeno é corporizado pelas filosofias que caracterizam a dinâmica da ciência fundamentada em procedimentos de escolha arbitrários. Por esse motivo, Popper desenvolveu vários critérios para distinguir as teorias racionais das irracionais. Contudo, contrariamente às posições assumidas por Popper, as teorias de Kuhn cumprem os seus requisitos de racionalidade, logo a sua filosofia não pode ser considerada redutora e simplesmente relativista. As suas teses não só respeitaram os critérios de Popper como ainda enriqueceram o conhecimento sobre a actividade científica. Kuhn apresentou uma conceitualização denominada neste estudo por realidade-nicho, com base nela é possível sustentar que conciliou as posições relativistas com as realistas.

Resumo: O objetivo desta dissertação é compreender as relações que podem ser estabelecidas entre as teorias acerca da linguagem em dois autores, Willard V.O. Quine e Thomas S. Kuhn, principalmente em torno das questões significado e referência.O primeiro capítulo visa apresentar alguns elementos da tradição empirista que podem ser úteis à compreensão das ideias filosóficas de Willard Quine e Thomas Kuhn. Para a apresentação deste breve painel, dois autores foram escolhidos: David Hume e Rudolph Carnap.O segundo capítulo procura apresentar os desenvolvimentos filosóficos de Quine a partir de seu embate com o empirismo tradicional. O destaque foi dado à crítica de Quine ao mentalismo. Para Quine, uma vez que a referência é totalmente inescrutável somente o comportamento linguísitico deve ser parâmetro para o desenvolvimento de nossas teorias de linguagem.O terceiro capítulo dedica-se à apresentação das ideias de Thomas Kuhn a respeito da linguagem. A incomensurabilidade semântica é a principal idéia a ser apresentada. Nesse capítulo, se procurará mostrar como o projeto kuhniano se distancia do naturalismo quineano. Por fim, o capítulo quatro procura apresentar brevemente o embate entre o descritivismo semântico kuhniano e algumas ideias centrais das teorias causais diretas da referência. O ponto central do embate é a disputa pela defesa da fixidez ou não da referência.

Artikkelen kritiserer framstillingen av T. Kuhns vitenskapsloso i boka Annerledestenkerne (Universitetsforlaget 2009) av Per Arne Bjørkum. Jeg viser også at de vitenskapshistoriske og biograske opplysningene oftest er mytiske eller feilaktige, og ikke bygger på de mange studier av paradigmeskifter som er publisert etter Kuhns historiske vending. Dermed gir boka heller ikke historisk grunnlag for sin påstand om at forskere som kommer med noe genuint nytt, som regel utsettes for sterkt sosialt press og utstøtelse.

This study assesses the interaction between climate change and agricultural trade policies. We distinguish between two dimensions of agricultural trade policy: market insulation and subsidy levels. Building on the previous work of Tsigas, Frisvold and Kuhn (1997) we find that, in the presence of current levels of agricultural subsidies, increased price transmission --as called for under the Uruguay Round Agreement on Agriculture-- reduces global welfare in the wake of climate change. This is due to the positive correlation between productivity changes and current levels of agricultural support. Increases in subsidized output under climate change tend to exacerbate inefficiencies in the global agricultural economy in the absence of market insulation. However, once agricultural subsidies have also been eliminated, price transmission via the global trading system contributes positively to economic adaptation under climate change.

Kun László hazatérésekor tett kihallgatása alapján ismerjük meg gyermekkorát, Nyugatra szökésének indokait. Hogyan vált az idegenlégió katonájává, milyen laktanyákon keresztül vezetett útja Észak-Afrikába. Kiképzését követően hamarosan Indokínába vezényelték. Észak-Vietnam legveszélyesebb helyein szolgált. Bevetéseken nem sérült meg, de életben maradását mégis egy gyors orvosi beavatkozásnak köszönhette, mert vakbélgyulladással került kórházba. Szolgálata alatt tiszti iskolát végzett, érdemei elismeréseként több kitüntetést kapott, valamint többször előléptették. Leszerelése után csak három évre rá tért illegálisan haza. Kihallgatásakor számos magyar légióstársa nevét közölte. Életútjára 1958-ig találtunk adatokat.

This may partially explain the relatively slow growth of world grain import demand in recent years. In addition, bilateral agreements with East Asia, NAFTA, and the evolution of the CAP, have all had important impacts on the structure of world food and agricultural trade. The objective of this paper is to assess the relative role of each of the major forces-- consumer demand, factor accumulation, transport costs, and policy change--in driving changes in the composition of world food trade in 1980-1995. To do so, we employ a modified version of the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) model of world trade which permits us to isolate the contribution of each of these related factors to the changing composition of world food trade in a general equilibrium context. We evaluate the relative role of each of these factors by simulating the model backwards in time, from 1995 to 1980 under different assumptions. This general approach, termed “backcasting” (i.e. backwards forecasting), takes as exogenous the basic drivers of change and attempts to explain the resulting change in food trade composition. The model-produced changes in the composition of agricultural and food trade are compared with historical trade data, to determine the relative importance of each factor on the changing composition of food trade. Given limited space, our focus will be on explaining the changes in the global composition of food and agriculture trade. A natural follow-on effort would target specific markets in more detail. This type of backcasting approach was first employed by Gehlhar (1997) who sought to explain the shift in exports of primary commodities to manufactures in East Asia in the 1980's. He calibrated the GTAP model to 1992 data, then implemented shocks to factor endowments and economywide total factor productivity (TFP) in order to force each economy back to its 1982 levels of population, land, labor, human capital, physical capital and technology. By comparing actual and predicted changes in export shares in this period, he found human capital accumulation played a key role in explaining the change in the aggregate composition of East Asian exports. Gehlhar, Hertel and Martin (1994) built on this work in an effort to predict future changes in the pattern of agricultural trade from 1992-2002. They also emphasized the importance of supply-side determinants of agricultural trade. In this paper, we go beyond this earlier work in a number of ways. First, we focus on the composition of agricultural exports, rather than simply looking at the share of agriculture in total trade. Secondly, we incorporate the Cranfield et al. estimates of Rimmer and Powell’s recently developed, implicitly directly additive demand system (nicknamed AIDADS) into the GTAP model. A cikk a Tanítóképző Intézet Tanácsköztársaság alatti történetével foglalkozik. Az épületet 1919 júliusában Cserny József különítménye (Lenin-fiúk) sajátította ki, laktanyaként és fegyvertárként használva azt, a pincében volt csendőröket végeztek ki. Noha az ügy kivizsgálását már Kun Béla megkezdte, végül a Tanácsköztársaság bukása után a terroristákat felelősségre vonták, az épület pedig ismét oktatási intézményként működött tovább. A gyilkosság emlékére 1921-ben, majd 2011-ben emléktáblát állítottak.

Ilmatieteen laitoksen Nurmijärven geofysiikan observatorio aloitti toimintansa syksyllä 1952. Observatorion päätehtävä oli ylläpitää jatkuvia magneettisia rekisteröintejä muualla Suomessa tehtävien magneettisten kartoitustöiden tueksi. Ilmatieteen laitoksen johdolla tehty magneettinen kartoitustyö saatiin päätökseen vuonna 1930, mutta yli kaksikymmentä vuotta myöhemmin tarvittiin magneettisen kartta-aineiston päivitys. Työhön saatiin Sodankylän geofysiikan observatorion johtaja Eyvind Sucksdorff (1899–1955) vuonna 1945. Sucksdorff oli jättänyt Sodankylän observatorion sen tuhouduttua Lapin sodassa 1944. Hänet nimitettiin Ilmatieteen laitoksen geofyysikon virkaan. Eyvind Sucksdorff aloitti kartoitustyöhön tarvittavat magneettiset maastomittaukset vuonna 1946 ja samaan alkoi myös Nurmijärven observatorion suunnittelu. Observatorion havaintorakennukset saatiin valmiiksi 1951 ja ensimmäinen kokonainen havaintovuosi oli 1953. Magneettisten rekisteröintien ohella observatorio oli Ilmatieteen laitoksen sääasema. Eyvind Sucksdorffin työt magnetismin alalla jäivät kesken, kun hän kuoli yllättäen vuonna 1955. Töiden jatkajaksi tuli Eyvindin poika Christian (1928–2016). Nurmijärven observatorion havaintojen ylläpito saatiin vakinaisemmalle kannalle, kun observatorioon saatiin pysyvää henkilökuntaa ja päärakennus toimisto- ja asuintilaksi. Observatorion paikallisjohtajaksi nimitettiin FM Matti Kivinen (1924–2010) vuonna 1957. Hänen johtajakautensa kesti vuoteen 1988 saakka. Kivisen jälkeen observatorion johtajuutta hoiti FT Kari Pajunpää (1956–2022) vuoteen 2018 saakka. Kansainvälisen Geofysiikan vuoden (IGY, 1957–1958) aikana Nurmijärven observatorion havaintotoiminta laajeni, kun sinne perustettiin Posti- ja lennätinhallituksen ionosondi ionosfäärin luotauksiin kaukomaille suunnattujen radiolähetyksien tueksi. Luotaukset jatkuivat vuoteen 1987 saakka. Vuonna 1961 Helsingin yliopisto perusti observatorion alueelle seismologisen havaintoaseman osana maailmanlaajuista maanjäristyksien havaintoverkkoa. IGY:n aikana Ilmatieteen laitos käynnisti revontulien valokuvausrekisteröinnit usealla asemalla Lapissa. Revontulikuvaukset jatkuvat edelleen uudemman sukupolven kameroilla. Vuonna 1959 observatoriossa aloitettiin ilma- ja sadevesinäytteiden radioaktiivisuuksien analysointi, kun ilmakehässä suurvaltojen toimesta tehtyjen ydinräjähteiden jäljiltä radioaktiivisen säteilyn määrä oli kohoamassa maassammekin selvästi yli luonnollisen tason. Ilmatieteen laitos piti osaltaan yllä säteilyn valvontaan liittyviä mittauksia ja tutkimusta. Toiminnan alkuaikoina pääosan radioaktiivisuuteen liittyvistä töistä teki FM Rolf Mattsson (1933–). 1960- ja 1970-luvuilla Nurmijärven observatorion operatiiviselle vastuulle perustettiin useita eri maiden rahoittamia havaintolaitteita. Tärkeitä toimijoita olivat Saksan Max-Planck-Instituutti ja Alaskan yliopisto. Edellinen ionosfääriluotaimen kautta ja jälkimmäinen magneettisten pulsaatioiden osalta. Yhteistyö Oulun yliopiston ja Sodankylän geofysiikan observatorion kanssa oli tiivistä. 1970-luvulta lähtien käynnistyi havainto- ja rekisteröintijärjestelmien automatisointi ja siirtyminen digitaalisiin laitteisiin. Observatorion alkuajoista lähtien toimineet analogiset magneettiset rekisteröinnit uusittiin moderneilla digitaalisilla laitteilla 1990-luvulla, jolloin valokuvausperiaatteella toimineet rekisteröinnit voitiin lopettaa. Magneettiset absoluutti-instrumentit korvattiin samoihin aikoihin uusilla ajanmukaisilla laitteilla. Samoja magnetometrejä hankittiin myös magnetometriverkon IMAGE käyttöön eri puolilla Suomea. Nurmijärven magneettiset rekisteröinnit liitettiin vuonna 1991 kansainväliseen INTERMAGNET-verkkoon, jolloin observatorion magneettiset datat ovat reaaliajassa käytettävissä maailmalla esimerkiksi avaruussään monitorointiin. Magnetismin alalla uutena toimintamuotona käynnistyi 1990-luvulla magneettinen testilaboratorio, missä voitiin kalibroida erilaisia magneettikenttää mittavia laitteita. Laboratorio erikoistui myös avaruuteen lähetettävien mittalaitteiden magneettisen puhtauden määrityksiin. Työtä tehtiin muun muassa yhdessä ukrainalaisen avaruustutkimuslaitoksen kanssa. Magneettinen testilaboratorio akkreditoitiin (MIKES) vuonna 2007, mutta sen toiminta on keskeytynyt. Kaikkiaan Nurmijärven observatoriossa on ollut toiminnassa 15 erilaista geofysikaalista rekisteröintijärjestelmää. Niistä osa on ollut ulkomaisten yhteistyötahojen havaintolaitteistoja, mutta merkittävä yhteistyökumppani havaintojen alalla on ollut Sodankylän geofysiikan observatorio. Nurmijärven observatorion rekisteröintien automatisointi ja havaintojen liittäminen tietoliikenneverkkoihin vähensi tarvetta ylläpitää observatoriolla vakinaista henkilökuntaa, koska tarvittavat huoltotoimet ja mittaukset voidaan pääasiassa tehdä Helsingistä käsin. Samalla tarpeettomiksi käyneet asuinrakennukset ja käytöstä poistuneet vanhentuneet mittauskopit voitiin purkaa.
