Abstract (sommario):
The fundamental advances in microbiology after the seminal contributions of Louis Pasteur, Robert Koch, Ilya Metchnikoff, or Martinus Beijerinck have provided the ground not only for Microbiology as a science, but for Biology at large. In all these contributions, Microbiology was conceived as an epistemological continuum encompassing biochemistry, physiology, taxonomy, pathogenicity, and the natural functions of microbes as indispensable basic elements, primary producers, maintaining the existence of the whole Biosphere. The concept of General Microbiology was developed to assemble all these aspects; in words from Cornelius van Niel, belonging to the late school of Beijerink in Delft, a unified, coherent science of General Microbiology could provide a foundation for unifying life sciences, so that Microbiology should be conceived as a general science of life.

Abstract (sommario):
We should thank Louis Pasteur for the essential concepts of medical microbiology, but some 30 years before he achieved the status of benefactor of humanity with the vaccination-treatment of rabies, one of the two pionneers of bacteriology (with the German Robert Koch) published his first observations on fermentations. His famous publication on lactic acid fermentation in 1857 established the concepts of the microbial ecology of food. This work on ferments and their activities led to modern biotechnology, but the ideas contained therein also laid the scientific foundation for food preservation techniques to ensure food quality and safety. Key ecological factors such as acidity, temperature and microbial competition were identified, as well as fundamental characteristics such as biological variability and the predictability of the evolution of microbial ecosystems

Abstract (sommario):
Tetranychus urticae, a globally ubiquitous mite, poses a significant threat to agriculture. Elevated temperatures exacerbate the growth, development, and reproduction of T. urticae, leading to substantial crop damage. In this study, we employed comparative transcriptomic approaches with whole-genome information of T. urticae to identify six Glutathione S-transferase genes (GSTs) implicated in heat stress response. Through comprehensive bioinformatics analyses, we elucidated the tertiary structure and active sites of the corresponding proteins, providing a thorough characterization of these GST genes. Furthermore, we investigated the expression patterns of these six GST genes under short-term heat shock conditions. Our findings unveiled the involvement of T. urticae GST genes in combating oxidative stress induced by heat, underscoring their role in antioxidant defense mechanisms. This study contributes valuable insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying the response of T. urticae to heat stress, laying a foundation for the development of strategies aimed at mitigating its impact in high-temperature environments.

Abstract (sommario):
The objective of this article is to analyze the construction of the referent “vehicle” in advertisements, proposing an interface between Referencing and Multimodality. For this, it follows the sociocognitive-discursive approach of Referencing (CAVALCANTE, 2011, 2012, 2015; KOCH, 2004, 2015) and uses, as a foundation on Multimodality, the Kress and van Leeuwen’s (2006) Grammar of Visual Design (GVD). It analyzes, through the compositional metafunction, formed by the subcategories value of information, salience and framing, the referential construction in four advertisements for vehicles. Considering the analyzes carried out, it concludes that the categories salience and framing occur in a complementary way in the construction of the Referent, becoming, in a way, redundant, because what is arranged in the image as a disconnected element and therefore functioning independently, coincides with what is evidenced, placed in a prominent position, most of the time, centralized in the image. Specifically, regarding the analyzed discursive genre, it concludes that the referent “vehicle” is the nucleus of visual information, confirmed by the deletion effect suffered by the elements in the background. The results obtained indicate that the visual composition maintains a direct relation with the construction of the Referent.

"The Australasian spiny trapdoor spiders of the family Idiopidae (Mygalomorphae : Arbanitinae): a relimitation and revision at the generic level". Invertebrate Systematics 31, n. 5 (2017): 566. http://dx.doi.org/10.1071/is16065.

Abstract (sommario):
The Australasian spiny trapdoor spiders of the family Idiopidae (subfamily Arbanitinae) are revised at the generic level, using a multi-locus molecular phylogenetic foundation and comprehensive sampling of all known lineages. We propose a new family- and genus-group classification for the monophyletic Australasian fauna, and recognise 10 genera in four tribes. The Arbanitini Simon includes Arbanitis L. Koch, 1874 (61 species), Blakistonia Hogg, 1902 (one species) and Cantuaria Hogg, 1902 (43 species). The Aganippini Simon includes Bungulla Rix, Main, Raven & Harvey, gen. nov. (two species), Eucanippe Rix, Main, Raven & Harvey, gen. nov. (one species), Eucyrtops Pocock, 1897 (two species), Gaius Rainbow, 1914 (one species) and Idiosoma Ausserer, 1871 (14 species). The Cataxiini Rainbow and Euoplini Rainbow include just Cataxia Rainbow, 1914 (11 species) and Euoplos Rainbow, 1914 (12 species), respectively. Two distinctive new genera of Aganippini are described from Western Australia, and several previously valid genera are recognised as junior synonyms of existing genus-group names, including Misgolas Karsch, 1878 (= Arbanitis; new synonymy), Aganippe O. P.-Cambridge, 1877 (= Idiosoma; new synonymy) and Anidiops Pocock, 1897 (= Idiosoma; new synonymy). Gaius stat. rev. is further removed from synonymy of Anidiops. Other previously hypothesised generic synonyms are supported by both morphology and molecular phylogenetic data from 12 genes, including the synonymy of Neohomogona Main, 1985 and Homogona Rainbow, 1914 with Cataxia, and the synonymy of Albaniana Rainbow & Pulleine, 1918, Armadalia Rainbow & Pulleine, 1918, Bancroftiana Rainbow & Pulleine, 1918 and Tambouriniana Rainbow & Pulleine, 1918 with Euoplos. At the species level, the identifications of Eucy. latior (O. P.-Cambridge, 1877) and I. manstridgei (Pocock, 1897) are clarified, and three new species are described: Bungulla bertmaini Rix, Main, Raven & Harvey, sp. nov., Eucanippe bifida Rix, Main, Raven & Harvey, sp. nov. and Idiosoma galeosomoides Rix, Main, Raven & Harvey, sp. nov., the latter remarkable for its phragmotic abdominal morphology. The Tasmanian species Mygale annulipes C. L. Koch, 1842 is here transferred to the genus Stanwellia Rainbow & Pulleine, 1918 (family Nemesiidae), comb. nov., Arbanitis mestoni Hickman, 1928 is transferred to Cantuaria, comb. nov. and Idiosoma hirsutum Main, 1952 is synonymised with I. sigillatum (O. P.-Cambridge, 1870), new synonymy. In addition to the morphological synopses and an illustrated key to genera, molecular diagnoses are presented for all nominal taxa, along with live habitus and burrow images to assist in field identification. The Australasian idiopid fauna is highly diverse, with numerous new species known from all genera. As a result, this study provides a taxonomic and nomenclatural foundation for future species-level analyses, and a single reference point for the monographic documentation of a remarkable fauna. http://zoobank.org/?lsid=urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:BACE065D-1EF9-40C6-9134-AADC9235FAD8

Abstract (sommario):
ABSTRACT The growing use of digital media in our daily lives has made it possible to show how the manifestation of language is changing. Therefore, this work sought to discuss how the new supports linked to digital technologies are modifying the practice of reading, focusing focusing on what the object of this research is: The hypertext. With a structure that allows a greater interaction (reader-author-text) and the reader can be more active in their reading, hypertext provides a glimpse of how new texts differ from printed texts. As a theoretical foundation, we resort to the concept of genre postulated by Bakhtin (2003), the reflections on support from Marcuschi (2003) and Araujo (2006), and the concepts of hypertext from Koch (2007) and Coscarelli (2005) and the analysis of a statement, a blog post that with its features and elements make it a hypertext. In this article, we could see the difference between printed/offline and online support and how this influences the characterization of the genre/utterance. As well as hypertext and its characteristics enable a new way of reading, in a more active and interactive way.

Abstract (sommario):
Background: Tuberculosis (TB) has been present in the history of human civilization since time immemorial and has caused more deaths than any other infectious disease. It is still considered one of the ten most common epidemiologic causes of death in the world. As a transmissible disease, it is initiated by rod-shaped (bacillus) mycobacteria. The management of tuberculosis became possible owing to several discoveries beginning in 1882 with the isolation of the TB bacillus by Robert Koch. The diagnosis of TB was enabled by finding a staining method for TB bacteria identification (1883). It was soon realized that a large-scale policy for the treatment and prevention of tuberculosis was necessary, which resulted in the foundation of International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases (1902). An antituberculosis vaccine was developed in 1921 and has been in therapeutic use since then. TB treatment regimens have changed over the decades and the latest recommendations are known as Directly Observed Treatment Short-course (DOTS, WHO 1993). Methods: A search of bibliographic databases was performed for peer-reviewed research literature. A focused review question and inclusion criteria were applied. Standard tools were used to assess the quality of retrieved papers. Results: A total of 112 papers were included comprising original publications and reviews. The paper overviews anti-TB drugs according to their mechanism of action. The chemical structure, metabolism and unwanted effects of such drugs have been discussed. The most recent treatment regimens and new drugs, including those in clinical trials, are also presented. Conclusion: Despite a 22% decrease in the tuberculosis fatality rate observed between 2000 and 2015, the disease remains one of the ten prime causes of death worldwide. Increasing bacterial resistance and expensive, prolonged therapies are the main reasons for efforts to find effective drugs or antituberculosis regimens, especially to cure multidrug-resistant tuberculosis.

Kruglov, Alexey. "Commemorative and Anniversary Philosophical Medals as a Visual Aid and Philosophical Source". Philosophy. Journal of the Higher School of Economics V, n. 2 (11 luglio 2021): 143–90. http://dx.doi.org/10.17323/2587-8719-2021-2-143-190.

Abstract (sommario):
The paper demonstrates the significance of commemorative and anniversary philosophical medals that are seen as a special visual aid for problematic issues in the history of philosophy specification. The author puts forward the thesis that such medals can clarify the perception of philosophical doctrine and the context of philosophical doctrine consideration at a particular time. So, they greatly assist as an additional historical and philosophical source, but they can hardly be helpful with the interpretation of either various aspects of a philosophical doctrine or a particular statement of a particular philosopher. The rationale for the thesis presents the analysis of four philosophical medals: the medal commemorating the foundation of the alethophile society (1740), A. Abramsonʼs medal in honor of I. Kantʼs sixtieth anniversary (1784), A. Abramsonʼs medal for the death of I. Kant (1804), A.L. Heldʼs medals in honor of the sixtieth anniversary of G.W.F. Hegel (1830). If the first three medals contribute to a better understanding of the philosophical traits of the German Enlightenment, the reasons for appealing to Horace's words “sapere aude”, Kant's peculiarity as an Enlightenmentist, philosophical meaning of the Kantian Copernican Revolution and the transformation of the perception of the “Critique of Pure Reason” in the late 18th century, expectations regarding the fourth medal has proved misplaced. It cannot clarify the Hegelian phrase about reason as a rose on the cross of modernity and reconciliation with reality. In addition, in the course of clarifying the meaning of the four aforementioned medals, the author also turns to the commemorative medal of Chr. Wolff by J. Dassier (c. 1733), the medal for the return of Chr. Wolff to Halle by J.Chr. Koch (1740) and the medal for Kantʼs death by F.W. Loos (1804).

Abstract (sommario):
4613 Background: J591 is an anti-PSMA mAb targeting the extracellular domain of PSMA, a highly PC restricted glycoprotein. 177Lu linked to J591 via a DOTA chelate was evaluated in a phase 1 trial in pts with metastatic AIPC demonstrating acceptable toxicity (MTD = 70 mCi/m2), excellent targeting of metastatic sites and biologic activity. Methods: Pts with progressive metastatic AIPC receive a single dose of 177Lu -J591 in two cohorts (65 and 70 mCi/m2). Cohort 1: 15 pts; Cohort 2: 17 pts. The primary endpoint is PSA and measurable disease response assessed at wk 12. Secondary endpoint is to evaluate toxicity. One 177Lu imaging study is done at 1 week post-treatment to confirm tumor targeting. Results: 14 pts, median age 73 (5 chemo-naïve), have been treated on this ongoing 2-center study. One pt with bone-only metastases achieved an 87% decline in PSA by day 85 with resolution of bone pain. Bone scan at wk 12 revealed a flare response. As of day 222, the pt has not required additional therapy. PSA stabilization (< 25% PSA rise above baseline) has been seen in 4 pts lasting 16 wks in 2 pts, 18 wks (1 pt) and 23 wks (1 pt), respectively. One pt withdrew at wk 56 without PSA progression. Of 5 pts with measurable disease, no objective responses were seen. Grade 3 and 4 thrombocytopenia occurred in 6 and 4 pts, respectively. 12/14 pts recovered plt counts to ≥ 150 x 109/L (median time to recovery = 22 d). Grade 3 and 4 neutropenia occurred in 7 and 1 pts, respectively. 13/14 pts had ANC recovery to ≥ 2 x 109/L (median time to recovery = 13 d). No significant drug-related non-hematologic toxicity has occurred. Excellent targeting of known sites of PC metastases has been observed in all pts. Conclusions: 177Lu-J591 demonstrates anti-tumor activity in pts with AIPC with one pt achieving the primary endpoint (≥ 50% PSA decline) and 4 pts with PSA stabilization at a dose of 65 mCi/m2. Abstract (sommario):
We propose the new concept ofKrivine ordered combinatory algebra($\mathcal{^KOCA}$) as foundation for the categorical study of Krivine's classical realizability, as initiated by Streicher (2013).We show that$\mathcal{^KOCA}$'s are equivalent to Streicher'sabstract Krivine structuresfor the purpose of modeling higher-order logic, in the precise sense that they give rise to the same class oftriposes. The difference between the two representations is that the elements of a$\mathcal{^KOCA}$play both the role of truth values and realizers, whereas truth values aresetsof realizers in$\mathcal{AKS}$s.To conclude, we give a direct presentation of the realizability interpretation of a higher order language in a$\mathcal{^KOCA}$, which showcases the dual role that is played by the elements of the$\mathcal{^KOCA}$.

Abstract (sommario):
How the Grundtvig Society was foundedA paper read by Henning Høirup to the Annual Conference of the GS on 15th January 1988This paper was given close to the fortieth anniversary of the date when the GS made itself known to the public with a press notice announcing its foundation at a meeting, held at Vartov on 13th January 1948 when the Society was formally constituted. The notice includes the names of the fifteen founder members. The reason why the GS has nevertheless insisted on 8th September 1947 as the date of its foundation is given by Bishop Høirup in this paper. The latter date is the correct one, and the place where the GS was founded is the episcopal residence at Ribe, but the six founders (who had come together at a meeting of Grundtvig scholars) agreed to widen the circle so as to include nine co-founders who were present at the meeting on 13th January 1948.Concurring with Albeck Høirup maintains that the renewed interest in Grundtvig began in the Thirties when the literary historian Georg Christensen had completed Svend Grundtvig’s edition of his father’s Poetiske Skrifter, which had come to a standstill after the Editor’s death in 1889. Approximately at the same time the Haandbog i N. F. S. Grundtvig’s Skrifier by Ernst J. Borup and Fr. Schrøder was published. It was also the time of appearance of Edvard Lehmann’s book on Grundtvig in Swedish with a Danish version following later on. All this occured about ten years earlier than the so-called Grundtvig Renaissance launched by Hal Kochs university lectures on Grundtvig in 1940.However, to Høirup the most important event in the Thirties was the appearance of the eleventh edition of the song-book of the folk high school with the scores for tunes by Carl Nielsen, Thomas Laub and Thorvald Aagaard, which gave new life to Grundtvig’s songs and hymns. Høirup’s pastor colleague of the adjacent parish in Funen, Kaj Thaning at Asperup, had started a card index on main concepts in Grundtvig’s work, and the two clerics got permission to take out Grundtvig mss. on loan pledging that they would keep the invaluable fascicles in the fire-proof safes of their vicarages. Bishop Hans .llgaard of Odense supported research on Grundtvig’s theology as when he convened a working synod of his diocese in 1946, where both Thaning and H.irup presented results of the research projects that led to their doctoral dissertations. At the Royal Library in Copenhagen Høirup met other Grundtvig scholars, Steen Johansen, William Michelsen and Helge Toldberg. In September 1947 those three and Høirup came to Ribe to meet Bishop C. I. Scharling and Villiam Grønbæk, the Diocesan Dean, both known as “High Church” men. But all misgivings about them were soon laid aside. Scharling was able to present his book on “Grundtvig and Romanticism”, that appeared in the same year. At this meeting the idea to set up a society for the advancement of cooperation in research and in the editing of documentary scholarly editions of Grundtvig’s writings was discussed along with a proposal from Bishop Øllgaard that a future yearbook be called Grundtvig-Studier. On the following day, Grundtvig’s birthday, regulations were drafted, just as it was agreed to widen the circle so as to include Bishop Øllgaard and Professor Poul Andersen and Hal Koch, as well as the literary historians Gustav Albeck, Georg Christensen and Magnus Stevns. Helge Toldberg was appointed Secretary and Høirup himself Editor of Grundtvig-Studier. The meeting at Ribe was not convened with the foundation of the GS as its aim. The resolve tofound it grew out of a feeling of the value that working together would entail. The proposed co-founders were all in favour and were joined by Pastor Balslev of Vartov. At the meeting at Vartov, where the Society was constituted, Bishop Scharling was elected President. When he died in 1951, Ernst J. Borup, the Warden of Vartov, rightly said that thanks to Scharling the Society “had been taken beyond the limitations of the partisan dominance to which it might otherwise have been confined.” The circle of co-founders were further augmented with Kaj Thaning and Holger Kjær, a folk high school teacher. An invitation to membership was issued, and at the first annual conference in 1948 the membership stood at 333. At the conference Magnus Stevns lectured on “The Kingo Hymn and Grundtvig”, though he was already hampered by the disease that was to bring him to his grave shortly afterwards. After some remarks about the activities of the Society over the past forty years Høirup pointed out that new scholars constantly have come forward including undergraduates, as those who wrote most of the chapters in the book “For the Sake of Continuity” (1977), which was published as a double-volume of Grundtvig Studier. The 1988 volume of Grundtvig Studier opens with an obituary on P. G. Lindhardt. He was a professor of ecclesiastical history in the University of Aarhus and a member of the Committee of the GS from 1956. He is the author of a biography of Grundtvig in English and contributed an article “Some Light Thrown on Grundtvig’s Trip to England in 1843” to Kirkehistoriske Samlinger 1972. He made an edition of Grundtvig’s sermons 1854-56 with a commentary (1974-1977). His monumental scholarly work was chiefly concerned with the rise of the revivalist movements in the 19th century. The obituarist is J. H . Schjørring, D.D ., who was elected a member of the Commitee of the GS in 1988.The Grundtvig Manuscript .Fragen aus Dänemark an die Universitäten Deutscher Zunge., an unpublished fragment lodged in the Grundtvig Archives of the Royal Library in Copenhagen (fasc. 168), dates from the period 1816-1820. It contains an appeal to the professors of German universities that they offer themselves to the German princes as intermediaries between these and their subjects in setting up constitutional rules of government after the Vienna Conference 1815-1816. As the situation changed, when the writer August von Kotzebue was murdered on 23. March 1819, the manuscript was probably written shortly before this date.

Abstract (sommario):
Has the Grundtvig Society Neglected Grundtvig the Poet?By Gustav AlbeckThis paper, also read to the annual Conference of the Grundtvig Society, involved a detailed survey of the literature on Grundtvig as a poet, both before and after the foundation of the Grundtvig Society. Initially the three grundtvigians Frederik Nielsen, Frederik Rønning and Holger Begtrup were dwelt on, and next the chapter on Grundtvig in Vilhelm Andersen’s Illustreret Dansk Litteraturhistorie III is mentioned along with Hans Brix’s account in Danske Digtere and the important monographs on Grundtvig by Edvard Lehmann, the historian of religion, and Hal Koch, the ecclesiastical historian, which books have little to say about Grundtvig the poet. Indeed, as Albeck points out, for long Grundtvig was not rated on the literature exchange of Copenhagen. To Brandes he was nothing but a pest, though he recognized that he ranked among the giants of Danish intellectual life. H. S. Vodskov, the critic, was among the first to afford Grundtvig recognition, as did L. C. Nielsen, the poet. It is, however, Paul V Rubow, who as a professor of literature called for research on Grundtvig based on true scholarship that might bring to light new knowledge about Grundtvig, and particularly about the poet.Albeck claims that research on Grundtvig already began in the Thirties with minor contributions by Emil Frederiksen and Magnus Stevns. Owing to the German occupation 1940-1945, however, the interest in Grundtvig increased, and in 1947 the Grundtvig Society (hereinafter GS) was founded by a group numbering as many literary scholars as theologians. The registration of Grundtvig’s unpublished papers, running to thirty volumes, was completed 1956-1964, the feat of a team-work including philologists and theologians, which had the support of the GS and the Danish Society for Language and Literature. Scholars in the humanities were in special pursuit of papers that might throw light on Grundtvigs profane work, and particularly his poetry. An edition of Grundtvig’s diaries and books of excerpts, undertaken by Gustav Albeck and published in colloboration with the Danish Society for Language and Literature, was one achievement, but so far one has not succeeded in bringing out a complete edition of Grundtvig’s letters. Chr. Thodberg has published the bulk of Grundtvigs sermons. But Albeck misses studies of Grundtvig’s poetry after Helge Toldberg’s doctoral thesis. The poet Poul Borum’s book on “Grundtvig The Poet” (1983) he considers an exception, while pointing to Flemming Lundgreen Nielsen, Det handlende ord (1980). Particularly Albeck regrets the omission of attention to Grundtvig as a poet in the book that was published in English, French and German by the Danish Society under the editorship of members of the GS for the Grundtvig Bicentenary in 1983. He does admit, though, that Grundtvig the poet, is present both in Flemming Lundgreen Nielsen’s chapter, “Grundtvig and Romanticism” and in Chr. Thodberg’s two chapters, “Grundtvig the Hymnwriter” and “Grundtvig the Preacher - the Poet in the Pulpit”.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the meaning, in both local and international context, of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale (KMB), the first international exhibit of contemporary art in India. Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF), which administers the KMB, identifies art as a means for transforming society, with a mission to bring global contemporary art to India and to present India’s modern art to the world. The authors further investigate the role of government sponsorship and corporate patronage in funding the KMB, and investigate how resistance through art is key to the KMB’s identity. Design/methodology/approach This study focuses primarily on published materials relating to the KMB. One of the authors attended the 2016 KMB and interviewed fellow attendees. Additionally, the authors reviewed and assessed social media postings regarding the 2016 KMB. Findings The authors argue that government sponsorship and corporate patronage are never solely about political or financial power. Rather, a generalized reciprocity among the three entities – corporations, the government and the artists – allows the KMB to flourish. For the artists involved, the KMB, co-founded by activist artists, sustains interest in and awareness of resistance. Originality/value Extant literature on biennales is sparse on ways in which these exhibits extend their impact beyond the art world. The authors examine issues such as India expanding its position on the world stage through art, and the implications of political resistance embraced by Indian artists on future directions for the KMB, that have heretofore been unaddressed.

Abstract (sommario):
In 2006, Maradu Panchayat granted building permits to Serene builders for two towers without Coastal Zone Management Authority approval, disregarding coastal guidelines. Construction began in 2007, featuring two 16-floor towers with 60 apartments, totalling 200,000 sq ft area. Due to soft topsoil, deep bored cast in-situ piles into dense sand at 45m depth were used as foundations. In 2008, a vigilance probe revealed rule violations. Builders obtained a court-ordered stay, and completed the project in 2010. After a prolonged legal battle, the Supreme Court deemed permissions illegal in 2019, instructing the government to demolish the towers. Controlled implosion with delayed detonation was chosen, despite challenges including proximity to backwaters, nearby houses, and a hotel complex. This paper discusses various preventive measures adopted to control blast impact and field vibration monitoring. Tower demolition occurred on January 11, 2020. Ground vibrations were measured using accelerometers placed on concrete blocks. For Tower 1, peak acceleration ranged from 4.92 to 14.18 m/s², while for Tower 2, it spanned 1.38 to 12.75 m/s². An attenuation relationship for peak particle velocity (PPV) was developed to assess damage potential in the surroundings. Vibrations impacts were found to be insignificant due to short duration and varying frequency content.

Abstract (sommario):
The article is devoted to one of the most relevant problems of modern philosophy, the philosophy of consciousness in light of the latest discoveries of neurobiology. The most poorly studied aspects; the problem of free will, the problem of consciousness of the animal world and the problem of psychophysical parallelism are considered in this article. Some ethical and ideological issues related to the problems are also considered. The classic dispute about the nature of consciousness by E.V. Ilyenkov and D.I. Dubrovsky, which ended essentially in a stalemate precisely because of the ignorance of the importance of the above issues, is considered as an example of why these questions are relevant. The article also views the paradox of free will and responsibility for one's actions, which inevitably arises with a materialistic understanding of the nature of consciousness. The article briefly analyzes the key ideas for this topic by a number of prominent neuroscientists (Wilder Penfield, John Eccles, Oleg Kryshtal (Krishtal), Christoph Koch), devoted to the problem of the nature of consciousness in the time from the 1970s to the present, as well as the philosophical foundations of ideas about consciousness, formed in the European philosophy of modern times. The concept of dualism and its possible foundations, which are relevant at the present time, are examined separately, but the dualistic concept of consciousness proposed by Descartes is criticized as incompatible with the modern conclusions of neurobiology. Also, the evidence of world-renowned neuroscientists destroying the "human monopoly" on the possession of consciousness and indicating the presence of consciousness in the animal kingdom is presented. Ultimately, the philosophy of Buddhism is considered as one of the possible and most promising topics for studying in this direction. The strengths of the Buddhist concept of consciousness, which are hardly noticeable in this time, are summarized, thus giving an advantage over the ontological foundations of the concept of consciousness that prevailed in Europe in the modern era. In general, the convergence of traditional Buddhist views on the nature of consciousness with the latest achievements of neurobiology is noted.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract: Semmelweis finally achieved results from his persistent research work. Those being the scientific analysis of clinical statistical data and his animal experiments, which recognized the dreadful disease of puerperal fever and its prevention. “He not only discovered the real cause of puerperal fever but he also created antiseptic prophylaxis, which he introduced in obstetrics and laid the foundations of modern surgery (asepsis). The theory and practice of asepsis stemmed from the discovery of the etiology of puerperal fever and therefore originating from the genius idea of Semmelweis. The discoveries of bacteriology by Lister, Pasteur and Koch only provided a scientific proof of the intuitive statements of Semmelweis.” Semmelweis was a pioneer of clinical etiological research whose findings were aggressively disapproved by his colleagues due to earlier medical misunderstandings. Semmelweis is given due respect by posterity as a remuneration, to all the bitterness that he had suffered throughout his life. Semmelweis is considered the savior of mothers and infants. The Hungarian nation is very proud of him as he is one of our models whose oeuvre is acknowledged not only in Hungary but throughout the world. The message of his short, tragic yet effective life is eternal. The figure of Ignác Semmelweis is depicted as a statue and is placed in Chicago among the statues of the most innovative doctors and health care professionals of the world. The statue of Semmelweis is next to the statues of Louis Pasteur and Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen. “Semmelweis reflex” is a new expression which appeared and spread in English speaking countries. The word does not relate to a medical phenomenon but describes a social phenomenon when experts or the whole society automatically rejects discoveries and new recognitions without examination or justification. This phenomenon frequently occurs, even in our times. Orv Hetil. 2018; 159(26): 1041–1054.

Abstract (sommario):
Background: Neonatal period forms basic foundation which influences the future health of a child. It is often complicated by neonatal sepsis. In resource limited settings especially in rural and tribal areas with limited laboratory services it will be not possible to have all investigations. Study aims to determine utility of simple neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio as a marker of sepsis in neonates within the first week of life. Methods: Retrospective descriptive study in a tertiary care hospital in Kochi. Objective of this study was to analyse neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio in babies with sepsis to that of babies without sepsis. Data of 300 babies were collected which included 150 babies with sepsis and 150 babies with no sepsis. Records showing complete history, clinical diagnosis, appropriate investigation and management details of term babies within 7 days of life were included. Preterm babies, Babies with congenital malformations, outborn babies, babies with incomplete records were excluded. Results: In this study, mean value of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio in babies with sepsis were 3.73 compared to 1.22 in babies with no sepsis. For babies with sepsis±1SD values were 5.21 and 2.25 respectively and for babies with no sepsis were 1.74 and 0.70. For babies with sepsis±2 SD values 0.77 and 6.69 respectively and 0.18 and 2.26 for babies with no sepsis. Conclusions: Mean values of NLR values were significantly higher in those with sepsis than in those without sepsis NLR ratio is higher in cases with sepsis (3.728±1.483) compared to the cases with no sepsis (1.217±0.521). A value more than 2.25 can be indicator of sepsis.

Abstract (sommario):
The Khorasan erens, the gazi dervishes and the Alp erens played important colonial roles in the Turkification and Islamization of Anatolia. Among the struggles of the Ottoman Principality in Byzantium, these gazi dervishes settled in the Kartal-Goztepe region and took on the role of spectators. Daver Baba Lodge was established and operated in Basıbuyuk village in Kartal-Maltepe region. There is no information about lodge’s activities at that time. It is said that Daver Baba built this unit in the 18th century. In 1826, during the closure and demolition of the Istanbul lodge on the banning of Bektashi, the destruction of the Daver Baba Lodge was also discussed. Daver Baba Lodge, which had been destroyed and closed for a long time, was revived by Kerime Nine in the second half of the 19th century. The 1871 tombstone, which is missing today, states that he was a saint. There is no information about lodge’s activities after its reopening. It is known that he is one of the supporters of the National Struggle. In 1925, due to the closure of all tekke, zāwiyah and tombs, Daver Baba Lodge’s activities came to an end, and the tekke property passed to the waqf (religious endowment) administration. Meanwhile, the lodge land, which was in the possession of Fatma Melahat Güllüzade, was put up for sale in 1933 with an advertisement published in the newspaper Aksam. Sükrü Gulluoglu, who bought the lodge properties, tried to protect the remaining relics from the lodge. In the meantime, the headship of the dervish lodge was conferred on Ekrem Halifebaba from Adana. However, the lodge building, which resisted the destruction of time until recent years, disappeared completely in the early 1990s. Today, the remains of the Ayazma, the fountain and the foundation walls of the Daver Baba Lodge are left behind. In addition, there are no traces left from the present, and the old tombstones have been lost. There is only a newly inscribed marble tombstone indicating that Daver Baba, Kerime Hatun and the martyrs were found there. We do not have archive records related to Daver Baba Lodge. The information available is more based on the observations made by Reshat Ekrem Kocu in the 1960s. In this study, the history of Daver Baba Lodge is considered within the framework of the researches carried out so far with the information given by Kocu and the archive records related to Basıbuyuk village where the tekke was established. Keywords: Istanbul, Maltepe, Basıbuyuk, Bektashism, Daver Baba, Kerime Nine, Adanali Ekrem Halifebaba.

Abstract (sommario):
The article considers the historical and pedagogical aspects of the creation of vocational education institutions system in the German occupation zones of Ukraine during the Second World War. The purpose of the article is to theoretically reconstruct and disclose the main foundations of Nazi policy in the field of vocational education, which was carried out in the occupation zones of Ukraine, to distinguish and compare the effectiveness of relevant measures in the «Galicia» district, the area of responsibility of the Temporary military administration, the Military zone and the Raichskommissariat «Ukraine». The authors of the article use methods of retrospective, historical-comparative, relatively comparable and chronological analysis of the identified sources, as well as classification and systematization of statistical data on vocational education institutions restored by the German occupation authorities. The results. As a result, it was found out that the urgent need of the German occupation authorities for personnel support in many industries, agriculture, medicine and the service sector led to the need to resume the work of vocational education institutions, although this contradicted the strategic goal of the occupation of Ukraine. This is confirmed by the historical, comparative and structural-functional analysis of the regulatory documents of the Reich Ministry of the Eastern occupied territories, reports in the local press of the occupation zones of Ukraine. The types of vocational education institutions that worked in the occupation zones of Ukraine are revealed. The separate faculties of technical universities, as well as medical, agricultural and teacher institutes worked In Ukraine. In the most systematic dimension, these trends can be traced in the Galicia district and the area of responsibility of the Temporary military administration. In a similar vein, the work of secondary vocational education institutions is reconstructed. In the worst condition, the work of vocational education institutions was carried out on the territory of the Reichskommissariat «Ukraine», since its head E. Koch opposed the rational measures of A. Rosenberg as the head of the Reich Ministry for the Occupied Eastern Territories. It is stated that some of the German regional managers, organizing the broad exploitation of the captured territorial array, needed personnel, and therefore, in this area, they actually acted at their own discretion. Conclusions. It was concluded that the part of the educational institutions of the vocational education system of the German occupation zones of Ukraine managed to train qualified specialists and send them to work. Most of their graduates were students and pupils of former Soviet educational institutions, as well as Ukrainian youth who received initial vocational training.

Abstract (sommario):
Czech and Polish Table Tennis Players of Jewish Origin in International Competition (1926-1957)The beginnings of the 18th century marked the birth of Jewish sport. The most famous athletes of those days were boxers, such as I. Bitton, S. Eklias, B. Aaron, D. Mendoga. Popular sports of this minority group included athletics, fencing and swimming. One of the first sport organizations was the gymnastic society Judische Turnverein Bar Kocha (Berlin - 1896).Ping-pong as a new game in Europe developed at the turn of the 20th century. Sport and organizational activities in England were covered by two associations: the Ping Pong Association and the Table Tennis Association; they differed, for example, in the regulations used for the game. In 1902, Czeski Sport (a Czech Sport magazine) and Kurier Warszawski (Warsaw's Courier magazine) published first information about this game. In Czech Republic, Ping-pong became popular as early as the first stage of development of this sport worldwide, in 1900-1907. This was confirmed by the Ping-pong clubs and sport competitions. In Poland, the first Ping-pong sections were established in the period 1925-1930. Czechs made their debut in the world championships in London (1926). Poles played for the first time as late as in the 8th world championships in Paris (1933). Competition for individual titles of Czech champions was started in 1927 (Prague) and in 1933 in Poland (Lviv). In the 1930s, Czechs employed an instructor of Jewish descent from Hungary, Istvan Kelen (world champion in the 1929 mixed games, studied in Prague). He contributed to the medal-winning success of Stanislaw Kolar at the world championships. Jewish players who made history in world table tennis included Trute Kleinowa (Makkabi Brno) - world champion in 1935-1937, who survived imprisonment in the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi concentration camp, Alojzy Ehrlich (Hasmonea Lwów), the three-time world vice-champion (1936, 1937, 1939), also survivor of Auschwitz-Birkenau, and Ivan Andreadis (Sparta Praga), nine-time world champion, who was interned during World War II (camp in Kleinstein near Krapkowice).Table tennis was a sport discipline that was successfully played by female and male players of Jewish origins. They made powerful representations of Austria, Hungary, Romania and Czech Republic and provided the foundation of organizationally strong national federations.

Abstract (sommario):
In order to reach the target of climate neutrality by the end of 2050, an increasing interest in the application of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) for heavy duty vehicles (HDVs), such as trucks and buses has developed recently. However, HDVs require highly stable and durable cathode catalyst materials, which retain sufficient performance for at least 30,000 h of load-cycling during normal operation.1 It is well known that the concomitant voltage cycling of the cathode leads to severe losses in electrochemically active surface area (ECSA) due to Pt-dissolution that results in both Pt particle growth by Ostwald ripening and Pt loss into the ionomer phase.2 In general, employing high surface area carbons (HSACs) with Pt-particles located mostly in the internal pores of the primary carbon particles, reduces the loss of ECSA due to Pt-dissolution.3 Furthermore, it has been shown that catalyst degradation due to particle coalescence is mitigated using HSACs due to the larger inter-particle distance compared to catalysts with solid carbon supports.3 However, it is still not clear how the loss and growth of internal Pt-nanoparticles is promoted throughout voltage cycling, i.e., if they grow inside the pores or if they move outward to the external C-surface and get subsequently lost in the ionomer or grow due to Ostwald ripening.4, 5 Therefore, voltage-cycling based accelerated stress tests (ASTs) were performed using 5 cm2 membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) with cathode loadings of 0.1 mgPt cmMEA -2, made with Pt/C catalysts based on different supports: i) solid Vulcan carbon (Vu, TEC10V20E, TKK); ii) porous Ketjenblack (KB, TEC10E20E, TKK); and, iii) a partially oxided Pt/KB catalyst (Pt/KBmod) in order to study the effect of the accessibility of internal Pt particles on catalyst degradation. The latter was produced by heat-treating a commercial Pt/KB catalyst under an air/Ar mixture at 250 °C for 12 h to induce Pt-catalyzed local C-support oxidation of the bottleneck pore entrance, as described by Lazaridis et al.6 A full MEA characterization was included to measure the ECSA by CO-stripping, the H2/air and H2/O2 performance, and the O2 and H+ transport resistance in the cathode by limiting current measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), respectively. Finally, Pt-particle location prior and after voltage-cycling ASTs was investigated using scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM). It was found that after the same number of voltage cycles, a smaller loss in H2/air performance can be observed using porous carbon supports (see. Fig. 1, Vu vs KB/KBmod), concomitant with a superior ECSA retention that we ascribe to a reduced dissolution/sintering of the Pt particles located with the pores of the carbon support. Furthermore, a performance increase for the unmodified Pt/KB cathode is shown during the first 300 cycles (see. Fig. 1), which can be attributed to facilitated transport of O2 and H+ to the Pt sites. Lastly, Pt-utilization measured by CO-stripping increased significantly after extended aging, indicating that the share in external particles has risen over voltage-cycling. References: D. A. Abstract (sommario):
One of the major degradation mechanisms limiting the long-term durability of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) is the loss of platinum electrochemically active surface area (ECSA) of the carbon-supported platinum (Pt/C) cathode catalyst, caused by Pt dissolution that is followed by both Ostwald ripening of the Pt nanoparticles and loss of Pt into the ionomer phase [1]. The Pt ECSA loss is accelerated when subjecting PEMFCs to extended load-cycling inducing concomitant cycling of the cathode potential. To this end, accelerated stress tests (ASTs) can be conducted either by controlling the cell/stack current (“load-cycling” AST) under H2/air (anode/cathode) or the potential (“voltage-cycling” AST) under H2/N2 (anode/cathode). Most of the experiments studying the effect of load-cycling on catalyst durability have been based on voltage-cycling in a H2/N2 configuration, showing that Pt ECSA loss is aggravated with increasing upper potential limit (UPL), temperature, and relative humidity (RH) [2, 3, 4]. Comparing voltage-cycling induced degradation under H2/N2 versus H2/air, a recent study has found an essentially identical Pt ECSA loss, but a slightly higher H2/air performance decay when cycling under H2/N2 [4]. This study by General Motors Corporation indicates that Pt ECSA loss may not be a unique descriptor for H2/air performance loss, contrary to what was observed in recent work by Toyota Motor Corporation and Kyushu University [5] as well as in our own studies [6]. In this talk, we will discuss the correlation between H2/air performance loss and Pt ECSA loss during voltage-cycling ASTs at different conditions (UPL, RH, and gas-feed) conducted in 5 cm2 active area single-cell PEMFCs, complemented by a voltage-loss analysis to deconvolute oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity losses and mass transport losses (due to oxygen mass transport and proton conduction in the cathode catalyst layer). We will also discuss whether the H2/air performance loss is governed by the Pt ECSA loss (independent of catalyst loading) or, as we had proposed previously, by the cathode electrode roughness factor (rf) loss (in cm2 Pt/cm2 cathode, i.e., the product of ECSA and Pt loading) [7]. As roughly 100,000 [8] or even more voltage-cycles are expected for heavy-duty applications, requiring very long measurement times, an approach to relate the degradation under harsh AST conditions with those under application-relevant conditions will be discussed. Experiments are conducted with cathode catalysts based on different carbon supports (Vulcan, Ketjenblack, or so-called accessible carbon supports [9, 10]), on catalysts with different initial Pt ECSAs (i.e., different Pt nanoparticle sizes) and with different initial Pt-loadings (i.e. different initial rf). Finally, exploratory experiments to evaluate the effect of start-up/shut-down on the correlation between electrode rf and H2/air performance decay will be discussed. References: [1] P. J. Abstract (sommario):
This paper presents a brief review on the ternary phase equilibria in the ternary AV–BVI–I systems (AV = Sb, Bi; BVI = S, Se, Te). These systems includes the series of ternary compounds those are very attractive source materials for photo-, thermos- and ferroelectric energy transformation along the recently discovered semiconductors that exhibit Rashba-type spin splitting in their surface states. In the Rashba semiconductors, a unique toroidal 3D Fermi surface appears on the crystal surface, which leads to unusual properties that make it possible to realize unique electronic devices based on these compounds. The thorough knowledge on the ternary phase diagram of these systems shed light on the chemical and structural design of new multifunctional materials with tunable properties. This knowledge is very important whenfocusing on the chemistry of such multifunctional materials based on complex element systems. REFERENCES Audzijonis A., Sereika R., Ћaltauskas R. Abstract (sommario):
In the 1970-80ies critical assessments of the problematic state of psychology as science were flourishing, stressing the theoretical disintegration and practical irrelevance of psychological basic research and connecting both defects to a misplaced dependence of mainstream psychology on a scientistic notion of scientific cognition. Talks of a crisis in psychology were gaining ground again. Controverting the paradigmatic maturity vs. the pre-/non-paradigmatic state of our discipline or, alternatively, its necessarily multi-paradigmatic character, the quest for unification as against a programmatic theoretical pluralism became a top issue of scholarly dispute. The institutionalisation of ISTP in 1985 and its initial epistemological and meta-theoretical core themes clearly reflected this pervasive trend. Some 35 years later, it has become noticeably quiet about such concerns, and there is no evidence of a renewal of large-scale discussions on a foundational crisis in psychology, let alone of ambitious attempts at theoretical unification or re-foundation – despite the fact that none of the “epistemopathologial“ (Koch, 1981) diagnoses of traditional variable-psychology have been refuted or lost strategic importance. Combining historical retrospection with an exemplary analysis of topical theoretical-psychological subjects, the aim of my paper is to get a clearer idea of where Theoretical Psychology currently stands in regard to the meta-scientific study of psychological theory-problems.

ABSTRACTA century ago, Emil von Behring passed away. He was the first to be honored by the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1901 for the successful therapy of diphtheria and tetanus, which he had developed from the bench to the bed. He also contributed to the foundation of immunology, since his therapy was based on passive immunization with specific antisera. Being an ambitious character, he did not shy away from friction with his colleagues Paul Ehrlich and Elias Metchnikoff and his mentor, Robert Koch. Behring was not only an excellent translational researcher but also a successful entrepreneur and early proponent of public-private partnerships.

Abstract (sommario):
According to the latest research, the novel coronavirus uses the protein angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE-2) as a receptor for docking to the host cell. Essential for entry is the priming of the spike (S) protein of the virus by host cell proteases. A broadly based team led by infection biologists from the German Primate Centre and with the participation of the Charité Hospital in Berlin, the Hanover Veterinary University Foundation, the BG-UnfallklinikMurnau, the LMU Munich, the Robert Koch Institute and the German Centre for Infection Research wanted to find out how SARS-CoV-2 enters host cells and how this process can be blocked [1]. They have published their findings in the journal "Cell" [1]. The team of scientists was initially able to confirm that SARS-CoV-2 docks to the host cell via the ACE-2 receptor. They also identified Transmembrane serine protease 2 (TMPRSS2) as the cellular protein responsible for entry into the cell [1-3].

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractPecans [Carya illinoinensis (Wangenh.) K. Koch] are highly valued for their abundance of quality healthy lipids, positively impacting human health and making themselves a preferred choice for nutritionally rich foods. However, a comprehensive understanding of the high‐resolution characteristics of pecan fruit lipid composition and its dynamic changes, as well as the transfer between embryo and pericarp during development, remains incomplete. In this study, through integrated multi‐omics analysis, we observed significant spatiotemporal heterogeneity in lipid changes between the pericarp and embryo. It showed smaller fluctuations and more stable lipid levels in the pericarp while exhibiting a dynamic pattern of initially increasing and then decreasing lipid content in the embryo. In this study, a total of 52 differentially expressed genes were identified, related to fatty acid synthesis and metabolism pathways in the two tissues, with changes in oleic acid and linoleic acid composition being the primary features of the embryo. This research lays the foundation for further understanding the differential regulation mechanisms of lipid metabolism between embryo and pericarp. Overall, this study filled the knowledge gap regarding dynamic changes in pericarp lipid metabolites, provided crucial insights into the lipid metabolism network during pecan fruit development, and established a scientific basis for the genetic improvement of pecan crops.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractIn South Africa, acaricides are widely used for tick control but very few reports are available on resistance development of Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) decoloratus Koch to chemical control on commercial farming systems in Africa, south of the Sahara. Resistance to different acaricide classes reported over the years was mostly from localised communal farming systems. This report addresses the lack of available information on resistance development by reviewing results found during a National Tick Resistance Survey carried out from 1998 to 2001, laying the foundation for more recent research on resistance development, and the evolution of resistance over the years. One hundred and eighty R. decoloratus populations were randomly collected from commercial farming systems, covering most of the provinces of South Africa. Larval immersion tests were used to determine phenotypic resistance for each tick population and 6.6% of the populations tested were found to be resistant to amitraz, 35.5% to cypermethrin, and 36.1% to chlorfenvinphos. Multi-resistance to all three acaricides was found in 1.2% of populations and a further 25.8% of the populations were resistant to two acaricides. The detection of resistance of Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) species to currently used or new acaricides is an essential tool in resistance management. The acaricides tested for the resistance of R. decoloratus during the survey are currently still in use in South Africa and these historical results, never published before, can be valuable and can act as reference data to determine the evolution of resistance development to acaricides in more recent studies.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Background On behalf of the federal ministry of health the Robert Koch Institute as the German public health institute is currently developing a concept for a national Mental Health Surveillance (MHS). This surveillance should systematically gather, process and analyze primary and secondary data, thus integrating different data sources to comprehensively inform about mental health trends in the population. To do so, selected mental health indicators should be reported on a regular basis to detect changes over time and reveal need for public health measures. Methods To build up a national MHS, a conceptual framework and a core indicator set were established according to a two-stage procedure: 1) scoping review to collect a broad range of indicators in the field of public mental health on a population based level, 2) consensus among public mental health experts and stakeholders by an iterative Delphi process which considered quantitative and qualitative information. Results Drawing on theoretical foundation, an action-guiding conceptual framework with basic action goals referring to mental health promotion and prevention, mental health determinants, mental health status as well as mental health care and burden of mental disorders was developed. Within the consensus process, the 184 indicators resulting from the scoping review could be reduced to a parsimonious core indicator set. Conclusions The contribution shows background, method and first results of developing a German MHS. Next, the feasibility of the hereby presented core indicator set will be tested by identifying and closing data gaps. In the long run, the MHS should be integrated in a broader surveillance of non-communicable diseases. It should serve as a reliable database for epidemiological as well as health care research and evidence-based policy advice on public health measures to protect and strengthen mental health in the population.

Abstract (sommario):
The skills and knowledge needed to recognize and classify taxa are becoming increasingly scarce in the scientific community, resulting in a “taxonomic impediment”, where such knowledge is gradually disappearing (Engel et al. 2021). At the same time, it is clear that these skills are strongly needed in biodiversity monitoring for management and conservation, especially when carried out by citizen scientists. Formalizing the knowledge required to distinguish taxa from one another in the form of open digital identification keys is one way of making such knowledge more findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (FAIR) for professional and amateur observers of biodiversity. Experience working with taxonomic experts to capture taxonomic knowledge in a tabular, multiple access format has proven that important nuances in taxonomic knowledge cannot be captured in a tabular format in a practical manner. Features like taxonomic hierarchy, rich metadata, formalized geographical scope, multilingualism, numerical ranges, logical premises, and links to external services are all much needed improvements of digital identification keys. However, these are complex to capture in a tabular format, defeating the benefits of its general simplicity. To address this, we have developed Clavis, an open format for identification keys written in JavaScript Object Notation (Koch et al. 2022). The goal is to create an ecosystem where different implementations and mappings of the Clavis format can serve the needs of various users and institutions, while maintaining knowledge exchange. Having a versatile format as a foundation, a crucial next step was to offer experts a tool to edit and test identification keys, and provide end-users with a tool to access this information. In this presentation, we show the Clavis format itself, as well as an online editing tool and a end-user interface, available on clavis.no. Providing a more advanced use case, we demonstrate how we implement Clavis in tandem with computer vision, providing users with a single tool to quickly and reliably identify taxa using different technologies.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Objectives To compare gestational weight gain (GWG) trajectories of Brazilian women with three international charts used to monitor GWG, and to test whether there are differences in the classification of total GWG centiles between these charts. Methods This is a multiple combined cohort dataset with data from 10 Brazilian studies with repeated measures (mean of 6.9 measures) of GWG. Total GWG was obtained by the difference between the weight measured up to 14 days before delivery and the weight measured in the 1st trimester [Intergrowth-21st, I-chart] or the pre-pregnancy self-reported weight [Life-cycle project, L-charts; and Hutcheon, H-charts]. A total of 3,423 (23,340 observations) adult women with singleton pregnancies and free of hypertension and diabetes were included. We compared graphically the mean linear prediction (linear mixed-effect models) of Brazilian women GWG with the 50th centile of three international charts. The agreement of total GWG classification in < 10th, 10th–90th and > 90th centiles was tested using Cohen's kappa coefficient according to Landis & Koch classification. Results Women had a mean total GWG of 12.2 kg (SD: 5.8) and were, on average, 27.4 (SD: 5.8) years old. Pre-pregnancy normal weight women had a different pattern of GWG compared to I-chart, and the mean GWG of this group was slightly higher than the 50th centile of the L-chart. Underweight and obese women presented a different slope of GWG compared with the 50th centiles of H and L-charts. Pre-pregnancy overweight women presented a linear prediction that overlaps the 50th centile of the L-chart in the second half of pregnancy (Figure). It was observed a moderate agreement (kappa = 0.56) comparing the 10th, 10th–90th and 90th centiles classification between L and I-charts for normal weight women. L and H-charts presented a substantial agreement for underweight (kappa = 0.71), and moderate for overweight (kappa = 0.52) and obese women (kappa = 0.59). Conclusions L-charts are the ones that most closely resemble the Brazilian GWG distribution, especially for overweight women. We observed moderate agreement in the GWG classification of women in the 10th and 90th centiles between charts, which may lead to different diagnosis of GWG depending on which chart is used. This is a first step to create new Brazilian GWG recommendations. Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: Foundation. Main funding source(s): Robert Bosch Stiftung (Stuttgart, Germany) Region Stockholm (ALF project; Stockholm, Sweden) Introduction Chest pain is a common chief complaint in emergency departments (EDs). The Acute Cardiovascular Care Association recommends the use of History, ECG, Age, Risk factors, and Troponin (HEART) score for risk stratification. In hectic and overcrowded EDs computerized history taking (CHT) is one structured way for collecting the components of HEART score, which include medical history (H- and R-variables). Purpose To determine the proportion of acute chest pain patients where CHT can be used to calculate HEART score, and what interrater reliability the included variables have with physician acquired medical history. Methods Prospective cohort study with acute chest pain patients self-reporting medical histories using a CHT program (Clinical Expert Operating System, CLEOS) on a tablet. CLEOS, with >17,000 decision nodes, mimics a physician interview and tailors each interview continuously depending on previous answers. Clinically stable women and men aged >18 years with a chief complaint of chest pain and non-diagnostic ECG or serum markers for acute coronary syndrome were enrolled. Patients unable to carry out a CHT interview (e.g., severe impaired vision or confusion) were excluded. As recommended in regional guidelines a modified HEART score using the traditional classification of anginal symptoms, i.e. 1) central chest pain, 2) provoked by physical exertion and/or emotional stress, and 3) relieved by rest and/or nitrates, and traditional risk factors was used (see Table 1). Observations to each discrete H- and R-variable and medical history data were extracted from electronic health records (EHR) and the CHT database by the research staff. Cohen’s kappa statistics and interpretation according to Landis & Koch was used to describe the interrater reliability. Results A total of 1,000 consecutive patients were enrolled in one tertiary university hospital ED during 2017–2019 (mean age 55±17 years; 54% women), comparable to the general chest pain population (mean age 58±19 years; 50% women). A complete HEART score could be calculated in 60% of patients (H-variable 91%; R-variable 60%). Registered observations from EHR and CHT and interrater reliability data are presented in Table 1. Interrater reliability for the H-variable (classical anginal symptoms) was slight to moderate (kappa 0.19-0.44) and the R-variable (traditional risk factors) was moderate to almost perfect (kappa 0.56-0.88). Conclusions HEART score could be calculated in a majority of acute chest pain patients by the use of CHT. Interrater reliability was high for traditional risk factors but low to moderate for classical anginal symptoms. Our ongoing studies assess whether CHT combined with a risk score such as HEART score in an acute setting can be useful for improved risk stratification and, more important, to improve clinical outcomes.
