Arrêter collectivement de travailler, notamment dans le cadre d'une relation salariale constitue une transgression. Ouvrières et ouvriers en grève n'arrêtent pas simplement de produire, ils arrêtent, dans une certaine mesure, d'obtempérer. L'idée de « bras croisés » originellement synonyme de grève exprime cette idée. Dans les années 1930, cette expression maintenue et précisée par celle de grève sur le tas indique le poids de l'action directe dans les cultures de grève.Cette définition des grèves comme des moments d'expression de refus individuels et collectifs définit une agency ouvrière qui ne se définit pas d'abord du point de vue de l'État ni ne s'ajuste spontanément à une conscience de crise. Au-delà de ces considérations générales, la séquence des années 1930 est constituée par des grèves en masse, des circulations de pratiques très larges, des dynamiques revendicatives d'ensemble et sans doute des cultures de grèves et des choix politiques collectifs. Entre un débrayage syndical et une révolution sociale demeurent des entre-deux grévistes qu'il s'agit de déployer.La thèse étudie d'abord les des pratiques ouvrières des premières années de crises, puis s'intéresse aux nouvelles formes des grèves du début des années 1930 et notamment à la pratique de l'occupation employée par des ouvriers occupés et des chômeurs. Après 1933, les rapports entre mobilisations ouvrières et rassemblement populaire sont directement analysés. Une nouvelle chronologie des grèves en masse de 1936 est proposée dans une réflexion examinant les formes de contrôle ouvrier qui s'exercent. Enfin la thèse se conclut par les dynamiques divergentes de l'après-1936 lorsque la marche à la guerre balaie les libertés ouvrières. Outre des dynamiques liées aux actions directes ouvrières, la thèse est consacrée aux pratiques dans lesquelles se nouent et se dissipent des aspirations communes
Stopping work collectively, particularly in the context of a wage relationship, constitutes a transgression. Workers on strike don't simply stop producing; to a certain extent, they stop complying. This idea is expressed in the image of “crossed arms” that was originally synonymous with striking. In the 1930s, this expression was maintained and clarified through sitdown strikes, indicating the weight of direct action in strike cultures.This definition of strikes as moments of expression of individual and collective refusal suggests a workers' agency that neither defines itself primarily from the point of view of the state, nor through spontaneous adjustment to an awareness of crisis. Beyond these general considerations, the sequence of events in the 1930s was marked by mass strikes, widespread circulation of practices, a dynamic of collective demands, and especially cultures of striking and collective political choices. Between a trade-union walkout and a social revolution, there remain strikers that need to be explored.The thesis begins with a study of workers' practices in the first years of the crisis, then turns to the new forms of strikes in the early 1930s, and in particular to the practice of workplace occupations by both employed and unemployed workers. The relationship between workers' mobilizations and left-wing popular rallies after 1933 is directly analyzed. A new chronology of the mass strikes of 1936 is proposed in a reflection that examines the exercise of different forms of worker control. The thesis concludes with the divergent dynamics of the post-1936 period, when workers' freedoms were swept away by the march to war. In addition to the dynamics of workers' direct action, the thesis is devoted to the practices in which common aspirations are forged and dissipated

Comprised of three regular battalions of infantry, 2nd Battalion The South Wales Borderers, 2nd Battalion The Essex Regiment, 2nd Battalion The Gloucester Regiment and Brigade HQ, 56th (Independent) Infantry Brigade was only formed in early March 1944. Its specific task was to land 'under command' of 50th (Northumbrian) Infantry Division on D-Day. This Division itself was made up of three brigades of very experienced infantry. What is remarkable is that 56th Infantry Brigade's infantry battalions had all been on Home Service since June 1940 and were not experienced in battle. Despite this, within only thirteen weeks of formation, 56th Infantry Brigade task was to land on Gold Beach on D-Day as follow up troops and fight inland taking the town of Bayeux by nightfall. After this the Brigade was expected to provide infantry for 7th Armoured Division in a quick push south to take Villers-Bocage. This study traces the journey made by the three battalions of 56th Brigade from 1940 through to a very concentrated forming up and training period specific to the Normandy landings in 1944. It follows their actions from the landings through to the taking of Le Havre in September 1944, by which time the Brigade had served in four different divisions and lost its 'Independent' title to become a permanent member of 49th (West Riding) Infantry Division for the remainder of the war in North West Europe. No study has previously been made of 56th Infantry Brigade and extensive use has been made of primary evidence from The National Archives and other sources in this investigation. A considerable amount of new evidence has been gathered by interviews with surviving veterans of 56th Infantry Brigade. The evidence is used to explore issues that shed new light on life in the Army at home during the war, training for war and the Normandy Campaign.

Since then, black education has been so discredited that it now serves only to further crystallize opposition to the government. The classroom plays a far less influential role in shaping black perceptions than the informal schooling blacks get from their peers, their parents and political organizations. La tesi ha per oggetto i seminari tenuti da C.G. Jung a Zurigo tra il 1934 e il 1939. In tale ciclo di lezioni, Jung effettua un ampio commento del “Così parlò Zarathustra”, l’opera capitale di Nietzsche. Lo scopo del mio lavoro è cercare di capire, soprattutto mediante l’analisi dei testi di quei seminari, quanto in profondità Jung si sia spinto nella comprensione della filosofia di Nietzsche. In particolare, la mia indagine intende dimostrare che Jung è riuscito a comprendere perfettamente sia il significato autentico della “morte di Dio”, sia i principali corollari che da tale “morte” discendono. Al fine di dimostrare questa tesi, verranno anche analizzate tutte quelle lettere e tutti quei passi delle opere più note di Jung che dimostrano che lo studio di Nietzsche ha influito profondamente sullo sviluppo del suo pensiero. Lo Jung che emerge da questo lavoro di ricerca è molto diverso da quello usualmente conosciuto. Se lo Jung delle “Opere” appare solidale con la tradizione filosofico-teologica dell’Occidente, lo Jung dei “Seminari” e di altri scritti privati sembra infatti in cammino verso quella dimensione che il filosofo Emanuele Severino chiama “il sottosuolo del pensiero filosofico del nostro tempo”. Nel corso della mia tesi apparirà chiaro che è proprio grazie alla lettura di Nietzsche che Jung riesce a emanciparsi dalla tradizione e ad abbracciare il “nichilismo coerente” del “sottosuolo”.

This study traces Nam June Paik's intermedial art and cybernetic vision in his German period (1956-63) from the diverse activities as an Action Musician to the making of electronic media artwork. Most of the information was gathered from Paik's writings, correspondences and interviews. Much literature ofPaik extols the new possibilities offered by Video Art, but Paik's early days in Germany, and his intermedial practice and cybernetic strategy of the period have been little explored. This study attempts to examine Paik's German period based on the concepts of intermedia and Cybernetics. Part I (chapters 1-3) provides the historical and conceptual background ofPaik's art. It explains how Paik's avant-garde spirit began during his childhood; and it shows, in turn, how it had been developed to his dissertation on Arnold Schonberg in post-war Japan. Part I then focuses on the post-war techno-cultural discourses as tools for Paik's understanding of the relationship between electronic technology and human sensory perception before examining ./ the art historical context ofPaik's art through such avant-garde practices as Richard Wagner's Gesamtkunstwerk, John Cage's Experimental Music, the Darmstadt School and Fluxus. Part II (chapters 4-6) analyses Paik's artistic activities in Germany from a view of intermedia and Cybernetics. It is intended to contribute to an interdisciplinary project of mapping the early history ofNam June Paik's art. It argues that Paik German period represented an aesthetical moment in which the intermedial communication between body, language and technology were being reconfigured, and it suggests that Cybernetics played a significant role in framing Paik's ideas about complexity, interactivity, and participative creativity around this shifting technological landscape.

A research on the constituent elements of food and nutrition expertise with its focus on both the formative space and the intervening curricular practices of the “Visitadoras de Alimentação” (Dietary Education Visitors) in the political and institutional scenario of “SAPS” (Social Security Food Service) which operated in the State of Ceará from 1944 to 1966. For the analysis of the training of those professionals. “Agnes June Leith” Dietary Education Visitors School – so–called “EVA” – was selected; it operated in the State of Ceará from 1944 to 1966 focusing on daily experiences and curricular practices of the course, concentrating its investigation on the actions of dietary education amongst working–class members, students and the population as a whole. The study was aimed at rebuilding the educational space and investigate the curriculum practices of interventional feeding visits in the political and institutional SAPS–EC in this period. The methodological approach adopted was based on Pierre Bourdieu´s Social Action Theory with its emphasis both on the notions of field and habitus, as well as on the bases of Oral History and the Theory of Curricular Criticism, a landmark which was completed by the concepts of food, meal and eating practices originated from Anthropology. The sources used were the following oral reports obtained by way of interviews with people who had been part of the referred to school, such as principals, teachers, students and employees as well as “SAPS” employees – the institution to which “EVA” BELONGED; most popular newspapers at that time, exercise books of the course on Dietary Education Visitors, annals of Conferences on Dietary Education, books, magazines, officials documents and photographs. One can arrive at the conclusion that that School played a political–cultural role in the field of Food and Nutrition Education in the State of Ceará and in Brazil, contributing to the enhancement of human resources engaged in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty, and that the Dietary Education Visitors played a part as food educators and messengers of the principles of rational eating habits, contributing to the searching process for the social representation of such expertise.
Pesquisa sobre a constituição do campo de saber em alimentação e nutrição, com enfoque no espaço formativo e nas práticas curriculares intervencionistas das Visitadoras de Alimentação no cenário político e institucional do SAPS–CE no período de 1944 a 1966. Para análise da formação dessas profissionais, tomou–se a experiência da Escola de Visitadoras de Alimentação Agnes June Leith – EVA, que funcionou no estado do Ceará neste período, com foco nas vivências cotidianas e práticas curriculares do curso, centrando a investigação nas ações de educação alimentar junto à classe trabalhadora, escolares e população em geral. O estudo teve por objetivo principal reconstruir e investigar o espaço formativo e as práticas curriculares intervencionistas das Visitadoras de Alimentação no cenário político e institucional do SAPS–CE, no período de 1944 a 1966. A abordagem metodológica foi baseada na Teoria da ação social, de Pierre Bourdieu, com destaque para as noções de campo e habitus, nos fundamentos da História Oral e da Teoria crítica de currículo, referencial que se completou com os conceitos de alimento, comida e práticas alimentares provenientes da Antropologia. As fontes utilizadas foram: relatos orais obtidos por meio de entrevistas com pessoas que fizeram parte da referida escola, como diretoras, professoras, alunas e funcionárias, e funcionários do SAPS, instituição à qual a EVA pertencia; jornais de grande circulação da época, cadernos de aula do curso de Visitação Alimentar, anais do Congresso de Visitadoras de Alimentação, livros, revistas, documentos oficiais e fotografias. Conclui–se que a Escola exerceu uma ação político–cultural no campo do saber em Alimentação e Nutrição no Ceará e no Brasil, contribuindo para a formação de recursos humanos engajados na luta contra a fome, a desnutrição e a pobreza, e que as Visitadoras de Alimentação executaram a função de educadoras em alimentação e difusoras dos princípios da alimentação racional, contribuindo no processo de busca de representação social desse saber.

Between September 1939 and June 1940, the British Expeditionary Force confronted the German threat to France and Flanders with a confused mindset, an uncertain skills-set and an uncompetitive capability. The well-trodden campaign chronology does not do justice to the deep-seated origins of BEF performance, nor does it reveal the campaign's lasting impact on the British Army for the remainder of the war. This study of the command, control and communication systems uncovers how an absence of official guidance and a degree of discretion at every command level created multiple systems which were neither efficient in peacetime nor resilient in wartime. The BEF was made up of personnel with a vast array of experiences gained at imperial postings around the world and over a considerable time period; inevitably these diverse experiences caused variation in all areas of army life and policy. Throughout ,training and deployment" opportunities were missed to establish metric standards of capability and update operating procedures, not least because such topdown prescription was regarded as an infringement of an officer's discretion to command their subordinates as they saw fit. This left units dependent on their commander's energy and open-mindedness to new techniques as much as his experience and training. Peacetime had dangerously ingrained unique habits into many personnel, leaving officers and units deficient in self-awareness and the drive to improve upon satisfactory performance. The BEF was the product of decades of imperial policing, but also months of Phoney War; this unique prelude to combat left it paradoxically complacent about its own abilities and also unclear about the capability and combat tactics of the opponent it faced. It is against this background the campaign was fought and lost.

Anfang Juli 2012 haben wir auf dem Südfriedhof in Leipzig von Ernst Eichler fur immer Abschied nehmen müssen. Ganz in der Nähe von August Leskien und Wilhelm Streitberg hat er seine letzte Ruhestätte gefunden. Mit Ernst Eichler ist ein Genius der historischen Sprachforschung von uns gegangen. Fur den Wissenschaftsfächer von Akademie und Universität in Leipzig ist das ein grosser und schlimmer Verlust. Der Wissenschaftler Ernst Eichler hat zu seinen Lebzeiten viele Anerkennungen, Würdigungen und Auszeichnungen für sein bewundernswert breites Lebenswerk in der Sprachforschung erfahren. Seine Leistungen und Verdienste sind in Zeitschriften, Festschriften und Sammelbänden in ihrer Vorbildbedeutung dargestellt worden. Sie sind auch in unserer Fachzeitschrift zur Onomastik zuletzt zu seinem 80. Geburtstag in einer von mir gegebenen Würdigung nachlesbar. Es muss daher heute nichts wiederholt werden, was wohl den meisten in guter Erinnerung ist.

Given an additional 10 volumes that could still be added to his Collected Works and 35,000 unpublished letters, the historical record on Swiss psychiatrist, Carl Gustav Jung, remains incomplete. An example is the unpublished letters between Jung and Carol Sawyer Baumann (1897-1958), an analysand and member of Jung's circle in Zurich for 30 years. The focus of this dissertation is the period of transition between 1927 and 1932, when, after a near-death experience, Baumann shifted her attention from her husband and two children in Cleveland to a search for individuation, first as an analysand under various Jungians, including Cary and H. G. Baynes, then under Jung himself.

Jung's place in psychology is first assessed, noting that he is either generally ignored or else cast as a mere acolyte of Freud. Alternatively, the dissertation is situated in the New Jung Scholarship, which positions Jung as the 20th century exponent of the symbolic hypothesis, but in the tradition of the late 19th century psychologies of transcendence.

Jung's emerging conceptions are chronicled using his documents on individuation from 1916 until 1931. The documents show the emergence of the concepts of the persona, the personal and collective unconscious, the anima and animus, attitudinal and functional types, the balancing mechanism of the psyche, the transcendent function, and the self. These conceptions are compared to an abundance of archival evidence available on Baumann, including papers held by her heirs and primary source material from repositories in various libraries.

The interaction of Jung's theory and Carol Sawyer Baumann's interpretation of individuation reveals to what degree and in what way each influenced the other. The process of collecting, reviewing, and presenting documentary evidence, as an alternative to a hypothesis-driven approach, raises further questions from the material. The extent to which she was successful in her quest can be gauged by Carol Sawyer Baumann's superior intellectual grasp of the principles of analytical psychology, her extensive researches into non-Western cultures, and her ability to communicate her findings on the process of individuation through her lectures and published writings.

Au moment où, dans les années 1960, le poste de télévision trône au sein des foyers des pays industrialisés, les artistes tels que Edward Kienholz, Nam June Paik ou Wolf Vostell s’emparent de l’objet et conçoivent des boîtes télévisuelles issues de leur propres recherches artistiques sculpturales ou performatives : brouillage des programmes télévisuels, bétonnage des postes, désossement du contenant et détournement des contenus. Ces manipulations plus ou moins subversives transforment ce parallélépipède en un réceptacle d’objets divers qui, a fortiori, s’insère dans un autre environnement que celui de l’espace domestique : l’espace du Happening ou l’espace muséal ou bien dans le cadre d’un dispositif vidéo où l’objet retrouve sa fonction de diffuseur d’images. Cette étude rend compte du discours des artistes contre ou en faveur de la télévision, tout en analysant les répercussions physiques de ces positions sur le médium télévision. Or, la boîte télévisuelle ne se limite pas à la carcasse, à l’écran ainsi qu’aux composants électroniques, elle implique aussi des questionnements historiques et culturels sur le poste de télévision - objet polytechnique emblématique de la communication de masse. Cette appellation permet également de faire le lien avec les pratiques artistiques qui emploient et qui conceptualisent la boîte. En puisant ses sources dans l’histoire de l’art du XXe siècle et en prenant appui sur l’histoire socioculturelle et la création industrielle, ce travail envisage les procédés matériels et conceptuels par lesquels l’objet télévision entre dans le champ artistique aux Etats-Unis, en Allemagne et en France jusqu’au tournant des années 1990
In the 1960s, at time when the television set is implanted in the domestic space of industrial countries, artists like Edward Kienholz, Nam June Paik or Wolf Vostell, seized the TV set and created TV boxes: they caused interferences to the broadcasts, put the sets in concrete and manipulated the contents. The manipulations transform the television set into a receptacle filled with heteroclites and salvaged objects and with the video device, it becomes a monitor. Actually, when the television set get into the artistic field it becomes at the same time a TV box. The daily space of the TV box is not the living-room anymore but the space of the museum or the space of the Happening. Besides, this work analyses the discourses for or against the television and the artistic repercussions on the TV set. Nevertheless, the TV box could not be limited to the framework, to the screen or to the electronic components, this appellation involved historical and cultural issues about the TV set- an emblematic polytechnic’ object of mass communication. The TV box enables to examine also the relationship with other artistic productions that used and conceptualized the box. This work analyses the material and conceptual processes used by the artists to get the television set in the field of history of art in United-States, in Germany and in France until the beginning of the 1990s and it is strongly linked to various disciplines such as history of art of the twentieth century, the cultural and social history but also the history of industrial creation

On se propose de montrer que ce texte bref (vingt pages) renferme in nuce tous les thèmes fondamentaux de l'œuvre psychologique ultérieure de Jung, et se révèle ainsi capital pour l'étude de la genèse de sa pensée. Dans le texte sont également discernables les traces des sources et influences diverses qui devaient marquer Jung tout au long de son activité de chercheur, en particulier des éléments issus des religions et des pensées orientales (Inde, Chine) ainsi que d'autres provenant des courants ésotériques occidentaux, que l'on a choisi de ramasser sous l'appellation de pensée traditionnelle. This thesis consists of a detailed commentary on a text by Carl-Gustav Jung, the seven sermons to the dead (Septem sermones ad mortuos, 1916). We suggest that this short text of twenty pages includes in a nutshell all the fundamental themes of Jung’s later work and is thus seen to be essential to the study of his philosophy. In the text can also be found traces of diverse sources and influences which were to leave an impression on Jung throughout his career, particularly those elements which came from eastern religion and philosophy (India and China) and those which emerged from esoteric trends in the west which have been placed under the heading of traditional philosophy. We wish to demonstrate how these affinities provide a framework for Jung’s whole philosophy and contribute to the building of essential ideas in his vision of the world. On June 1 and 2, 1966, the White House sponsored the âTo Fulfill These Rights Conferenceâ in Washington, D.C. Following a year of planning by a council of civil rights activists, government officials, and big business and labor leaders, roughly 2500 people from diverse backgrounds and civil rights experiences attended the conference. Previously neglected by other historians, the conference and its planning reveal two important and related dynamics of the movement: the shifting alliances among civil rights leaders and the re-examination of civil rights goals and strategies. In particular, debates over the conferenceâs list of invitees, format, and procedures capture disagreements between established civil rights leaders, the White House, and labor and business leaders over who would, or could, direct the next phase of the civil rights movement. Secondly, conference debates on the reach of federal power, affirmative action, Vietnam, the expansion of the movement, fears of imminent violence, and the emergence of Black Power reveal the conflicting ideas that would create deep divisions between activists, liberals, and the federal government in the late 1960s and years to come.

This thesis explores the discourses on working women in Dundee's jute industry c. 1870-1930. It examines how working women became knowable and visible, and some of the ways in which women negotiated the relationships of power within which they became placed. Dundee was dubbed 'a woman's town' because of the central role that women played in the city's jute industry. Although a recent range of historical scholarship has started to ask new questions about women's identities and experiences of work, this study stresses the importance of engaging more widely with questions of geography, gender, discourse and power-knowledge. I explore how working women were observed, represented and categorised through a variety of material spaces - mills and factories, streets and homes, and through a range of conceptual spaces - economic, philanthropic and medical. The thesis focuses on the very processes and gendered discourses through which working women were made known - the practices of domination and resistance, and surveillance and control, and the different forms of knowledge production, including journalism, accountancy and philanthropy. Particular attention is paid to the ways in which divisions between work and home, and boundaries between public and private, were affirmed, reaffirmed and contested by working women and other urban actors. It is suggested that the work of Michel Foucault and a wider range of geographical and feminist theory provide us with a particularly rich and pliable set of conceptual resources with which to probe working women's geographies and the processes of power-knowledge, in the Dundee context. I suggest that the web of discourse that produced Dundee's working women as objects of concern was aimed not at preventing women from working, but at scrutinising and managing every aspect of their lives.

Civil Affairs and its more robust sibling, Military Government, were military organisations designed to ensure that basic civil order and welfare were maintained in those allied and enemy states encountered on operations during the Second World War. In so doing, they enabled formation commanders to focus on defeating enemy forces without being distracted by possible civilian problems. Using the battle of Normandy as a case study, this research assesses the utility of Civil Affairs in supporting military needs during operations. This contrasts with previous studies that concentrate on aspects of social and diplomatic history. If the need for Civil Affairs was generally axiomatic, there was much debate as to the extent and method of delivery required. Civil Affairs quickly recognised that in dealing with direct problems such as “disorganisation, disease and unrest” it was necessary for seemingly indirect aspects of civilian life to be maintained. Various forms of bureaucratic friction resulted and several Civil Affairs approaches were used, before the model for the North West Europe campaign was agreed. Nevertheless, the organisation employed in Normandy was arguably the most extensive and best prepared of the war. However, it also had to deal with many different civilian problems and in trying military circumstances. Consequently, the battle is fertile ground for the examination of the extent and nature of the organisation’s operational utility. Using primary and secondary sources, this paper argues that Civil Affairs was militarily both useful and necessary. Furthermore, it was able to provide wider diplomatic and political benefits as well as serving core military needs. The research concludes by acknowledging that whilst mistakes were made, the various improvements made to Civil Affairs in preparation for, together with the lessons learnt during, Normandy stood the organisation in good stead for the significantly larger problems encountered later in the war.

Nous présentons ici nos traductions françaises des premiers écrits de Franz Jung, écrivain expressionniste : das Trottelbuch, en 1912, perçu comme le prototype de la prose expressionniste, et deux articles du même auteur : Rasputin, et die Technik des Glucks. Ces trois écrits mettent en évidence les activités littéraires et journalistiques de l'auteur. Nous traduisons également un texte du psychanalyste Otto Gross dont l'influence se retrouve dans les écrits de Jung. A travers Franz Jung, écrivain oublié, nous voulons montrer que l'expressionnisme allemand s'intègre dans le vaste mouvement de toute l'intellectualité européenne, et dans un renversement des valeurs où prend tout son sens la découverte de la psychanalyse. Ce phénomène prend en Allemagne un sens particulier. En effet, la revendication du rôle d'intellectuel restait inédite en Allemagne, sauf l'expérience fulgurante de l'Athenaeum. Ce rôle, les écrits de Jung le dévoilent comme étant politique, dans les thèmes qu'ils abordent, dans leur esthétique qui fait rupture. La littérature, avec l'expressionnisme allemand, présente des caractéristiques qui perdurent. We are presenting here the first works of Franz Jung, an expressionist writer, in their French translation made by ourselves : das Trottelbuch ; which was regarded at the time of its publishing as the prototype of expressionist prose, and two articles by the same author Rasputin and die Technik des Glucks. These three writings throw a light on the author's literary and journalistic activities. We translate also one of the writings of the psychoanalyst Otto Gross, whose influence can be found in Franz Jung’s works. Through Franz Jung, a forgotten writer, we wish to show that German expressionism participates in the vast movement of whole European intellectualism and in an overthrowing of values in which the discovery of psychoanalyses finds its full meaning. This phenomenon takes a specific meaning in Germany. This claim of the German writer was still non-existent in Germany, apart from the fulgurating experience of the athenaeum. This role is recognized as a political one in Franz Jung’s works in the themes they deal with and their esthetism. The literature with expressionism presents the characteristics which will go on after. As he had played no historical role until then, the writer can't have towards his literary activity the distance implied by a status anchored in history and socially recognized. He can only regard it as a preliminary to a possible action

Esta tese realiza uma aproximação entre os campos individual, tradicionalmente pensado pela psicologia clínica, e coletivo, normalmente objeto da psicologia social. Partindo da psicologia analítica inaugurada por Carl Jung (1875-1961), e principalmente da psicologia arquetípica, vertente pós-junguiana cujo principal autor é James Hillman (1926-2011), chega-se a um ponto em que esta separação não se faz necessária ou produtiva para analisar o material coletado. A ideia de anima mundi (alma do mundo), de inspiração neoplatônica, e os conceitos hillmanianos de patologizar e psicologizar (ou ver através) formam a base de sustentação da presente construção. Ademais, contribuições da sociologia e da antropologia contemporâneas compuseram a estrutura necessária para sua feitura final. O objetivo da tese é analisar problemáticas da vida na cidade contemporânea, especificamente refletidas em certas intervenções urbanas de caráter transgressivo e ilegais, feitas com tinta sobre edificações variadas, conhecidas como grafite (ou graffiti) e pichação (ou pixação), muito comuns na Grande São Paulo. Foram examinadas, sobretudo, as pixações tipicamente paulistas, notórias pelo formato conhecido como tag reto. Concluiu-se que a prática da pixação, além de expressar simbolicamente a violência da vida urbana, agencia laços de amizade e convivência fundamentais para muitos jovens e adolescentes. Tais criações estão ao mesmo tempo intimamente ligadas aos polos de uma intensidade vital, de um lado, e de destruição e morte, de outro; denunciam uma faceta sombria da metrópole, sendo representações do patologizar, movimento in extremis e próprio da alma (psique). Ao marcarem o espaço, sobretudo central e mais nobre da cidade, os grupos de pixadores, quase sempre oriundos dos bairros periféricos e pobres, promovem a possibilidade de um fazer-alma desta psique coletiva. Além disso, movimentos mais recentes dentro do universo da pixação levantaram a hipótese: ao se engajarem em protestos políticos, sem deixar de lado a agressividade e a transgressão próprias da pixação, promovem a passagem do patologizar ao ver através. Deixando mensagens legíveis em locais simbólicos, os pixadores abrem uma possibilidade de diálogo entre a consciência coletiva e a psique inconsciente, trabalhando complexos culturais relevantes de São Paulo, ligados à opressão
This thesis makes a rapprochement between the individual and collective fields the former traditionally developed by Clinical Psychology, and the latter by Social Psychology. Leaning on Carl Jungs (1875-1961) Analytical Psychology and on Archetypal Psychology, post- Jungian school whose main author is James Hillman (1926-2011), the material was analyzed without such separation, considered unnecessary and unproductive for the reflections achieved here. The idea of the anima mundi, inspired by the neo-platonic tradition, and Hillmans formulations of pathologizing and psychologizing (or seeing-through) form the basis of this construction. Moreover, contributions from contemporary Sociology and Anthropology compose the necessary bricks to its final workmanship. The object of study of the thesis is life in the contemporary city, specifically reflected on some transgressive and illegal urban interventions made with inks on varied edifications, known as graffiti and pixação, very common in the Great Sao Paulo. Above all, the paulista (from Sao Paulo) pixação, was examined: notorious by its specific calligraphy, called straight tag. It was concluded that the pixação, besides expressing symbolically the violence of urban life, promotes friendship and sociability fundamental for many adolescents and young people. Such creations are at the same time intimately connected to the poles of a vital intensity, on one hand, and destruction and death, on the other hand; they denounce a shadowy side of the metropolis, being representations of the pathologizing, a in extremis movement and particular from the soul (psyche). When the pixação activists (usually poor people from the outskirts) mark the space, mainly the center of the city and its noble areas, promote the possibility of a soul-making of such collective psyche. A hypothesis was also raised: as part of the pixação writers from Sao Paulo were recently involved in political manifests, they opened themselves up to a communication with a broader collectivity (including the metropolis inhabitants that are distant from this universe), without leaving aside aggression and transgression, both proper of the pixação. This would be a passage of the psyche from pathologizing to psychologizing in the present days. A educação de crianças e jovens é um pré-requisito para a continuação do mundo humano. Sem ela, nenhuma sociedade sobreviveria a mais de uma geração. Nesse contexto, o professor ocupa um papel central, sendo um representante do mundo dos adultos frente a seus alunos. Esta pesquisa teceu um diálogo entre a Psicologia Analítica de Carl G. Jung, sobretudo em suas concepções sobre a educação e o arquétipo do Mestre-Aprendiz, e as reflexões de Hannah Arendt sobre o compromisso da escola com o mundo público. A partir da aproximação entre estes dois autores, buscou-se ampliar a compreensão de como os professores polivalentes significam a própria experiência docente atualmente e como a relacionam com seu papel dentro do contexto educacional. Para tal, foram realizadas seis entrevistas semi-dirigidas com professoras do Ensino Fundamental I, sendo que cinco atuavam em escolas particulares e uma na rede pública. Além disso, no final de cada entrevista foi solicitada a elaboração de um desenho relativo à profissão. O material coletado foi agrupado e analisado sob inspiração do método de processamento simbólico. Verificamos que a educação, como toda situação típica humana, é regida por um campo simbólico: o do Mestre-Aprendiz. Nesse campo, encontramos a influência de quatro polaridades arquetípicas significativas: Curador-Ferido, Puer-Senex, Narciso-Eco e Sísifo-Criança Divina. Um dos resultados obtidos foi que algumas polaridades, embora estivessem presentes, não se mostraram tão expressivas, como por exemplo, o simbolismo de Sísifo. Os dados sugeriram que, atualmente, alguns professores polivalentes têm dificuldade em desenvolver uma persona profissional adequada, o que parece estar atrelado a uma deficiente responsabilização pelo mundo e por sua função frente às novas gerações, tal como coloca Arendt. Tal fato pode influenciar negativamente os impasses escolares atuais. Por último, inferiu-se que as professoras que conseguem transitar pelas polaridades arquetípicas presentes no campo simbólico que permeia a relação professor-aluno, tendo clara sua função de professora e seu papel dentro do contexto educacional, têm na profissão docente um elemento significativo para o próprio processo de individuação e, possivelmente contribuem de forma efetiva na criação de um espaço compartilhado propício ao aprendizado de seus alunos
Education of children and juveniles is a requirement to the human world perpetuation as it is. Without it, societies would find a hard time getting to the next generation. In that scenario, the role of the teacher is central, being a representative of all adult inhabitants. This research draws a dialog between Carl G. Jung´s Analytical Psychology, especially his understanding of education and the Master-Apprentice archetype, and Hannah Arendt´s reflections over the school´s compromise due to the world. By dragging theses authors together, seeks to understand how elementary school teachers give meaning to their very own experience nowadays and how they relate to the educational sphere. A total of six semi-structured interviews were made to Elementary School female teachers, being one of them from the public system. At the end of these interviews they were asked to draw something related to their profession. All data was analyzed using symbolic interaction approach. We noticed that education, as with other typical human situations, is conducted by a symbolic field: the Master-Apprentice. Moreover, we found four distinct archetypal polarities: Wounded-Healer, Puer-Senex, Narcissus-Echo and Sisyphus-Divine child. However, the importance of these polarities differs significantly; for example, Sisyphus symbolism is not so decisive. Data suggests that elementary school teachers are having difficulties to develop the right persona on work, which might be related their lacking of responsibility with the world and with the future generation, as Arendt pointed out. That alone might have negative impact on modern schools challenges. In addition, our research also observed that some teachers are able to move along the different polarities of the symbolic field of teacher-students relations, clearly understanding of their role in educational system, they find in their career impactful points on their own individuation, and they might create a proper learning-environment to their students

Of Rawls's two principles of justice only the second has received attention from economists. The second principle is concerned with the social and economic conditions in a just society. The first principle, however, has largely been neglected. It claims, that all people in society should have equal basic liberties. In this paper Rawls's first principle is characterised in a freedom of choice framework. The analysis reveals conceptual problems of the Rawlsian approach to justice.

Esta dissertação consiste em um esforço interdisciplinar que tem na psicologia seu campo privilegiado de investigação. Nela, assume-se dois eixos de pesquisa: o primeiro é a exposição, em linhas gerais, dos discursos de Sigmund Freud e Carl Gustav Jung acerca dos fenômenos oníricos. No outro, consideramos tais discursos como objetos que produzem sentidos, e assim os perpassamos, em movimentos que os atravessam e circundam, em busca de perceber a polifonia que deles emerge, tentando expressá-la ao menos em parte. Tais discursos tiveram profundas ressonâncias na psicologia nascente, na cultura e na história do pensamento ocidental. _________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
This dissertation presents an interdisciplinary study, with a main investigative focus on the field of psychology. It assumes two research axes: The first consists of a general exposition of Sigmund Freud’s and Carl Gustav Jung’s discourses on oniric phenomena. The second one considers and attempts to express these discourses as objects that create meaning, and, in so doing, assist in surpassing the polyphony that emerges from them. Both of these discourses have profoundly resounded with early psychology, culture, and the history of Western thinking.

The dead who appeared in the dreams and visions of C.G.Jung profoundly influenced the psychologist's experience and understanding of the unconscious. Jung's model of the psyche emerged from his numerous encounters with figures of the unconscious, yet principally among these were the recurrent appearances of the dead. Until the publication of The Red Book the dead were interpreted metaphorically and very little research focused on how Jung used the term. The Red Book now reveals a great deal of material in which Jung interacts with the dead who are specifically identified as discarnates or disembodied souls. These encounters, I suggest, influenced Jung's concept of the unconscious and appear to have played a much more central role in the genesis of Jung's psychological model than was previously considered. Rather than a symbolic interpretation, the dead as literal players in Jung's discoveries can now be credited with having contributed to Jung's ideas about the unconscious and its workings. By way of a chronological analysis of Jung's personal material between 1896 and 1916, this thesis closely examines Jung's encounters with the dead considering their literal significance. These varied and detailed exchanges demonstrate how Jung experienced the dead alongside other figures of the unconscious who acted like split- off parts of his personal psyche. As a result, these interactions assisted Jung in grasping the dynamic nature of the unconscious as both place and process and one in which he effected change through participation. Jung's personal thoughts about the dead included in his commentaries in The Red Book highlight how he considered these encounters, the role of the dead in his life, and his obligation to them as a community. As a result, his work titled Septem Sermones Ad Mortuos, included in the section titled Scrutinies, can now be reinterpreted as a work composed specifically for the dead in preparation for their lives as newly discarnate figures, and ultimately stands as Jung's gesture of service to them.

My studio-­‐based research consists of a cross-­disciplinary body of work and textual analysis. The research focuses upon concepts associated with animal-­human relationships in a contemporary art context and how these have implied a range of current crises occurring on a global scale. This exegesis begins by outlining how animals have been perceived in both historical and cultural contexts. I begin by examining the ways in which animals and our relationship with them have been perceived in the areas of psychoanalysis, with particular attention to the theories of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung and their research into the subconscious, unconscious and instinctual drives connected with the animal. I also consider the parallels between anthropology and psychoanalysis and the significance of post-colonial research to these disciplines. I explore how the psychoanalytical theories of Freud and Jung influenced the work of the Surrealists, resulting in much of their experimentation and depictions of animal-human relationships from the 1930s onwards. I also discuss a number of Surrealist artworks, demonstrating how the psychological has been historically connected to representations of animals as well as their interest in non-Western cultures and art forms.

This research uses the ‘demand-side thesis’ to examine the decline of the Dundee jute industry. In particular, it examines the effect of international competition and the strategic response of the industry during the inter-war (1919-1939) and the post-war (1945-1960s) period to counter this challenge. The strategic response is studied by examining strategies employed at the firm and the industry level. Strategy at the firm level is studied in the form of capability development using the capabilities approach. The thesis also makes an attempt to redress the issue of determinism in the capabilities approach which suggests that the pattern of capability development is governed by path-dependency. By drawing on the techniques employed in the history literature, this research identifies strategic options that were being considered by firms at the time of capability development and examine why certain alternatives were not pursued. This will bring to light aspects other then those associated with path-dependency that played a role in the pattern of capability development. The capabilities developed by firms during the two periods are compared and contrasted in order to understand the pattern over this period. These findings are juxtaposed with the British cotton textile industry, a related sector, to examine the effectiveness of the demand-side thesis in explaining the decline of the jute industry in particular and the textile industry in general. This thesis makes contribution to three areas of literature: First, the thesis helps to further develop the demand-side framework by introducing a new case (Dundee jute industry) and developing a better understanding of strategic response within the jute and textile industry in general. Second, this thesis contributes to the theoretical development of capabilities approach in two specific areas: a) it helps to address the issue of determinism inherent in the capabilities approach through the notion of path-dependency. This was done by also examining the strategic options that were available to firms while developing their capabilities and underlining the reasons for not pursuing them. b) the analysis sheds new light on the nature of branching of capabilities in an industry over a long period. Third, this research makes significant contribution to the existing literature on the business history of the Dundee jute industry, which is sparse. The contributions can be categorised into four key aspects which have not been examined in the current literature: a) period (inter-war and post-war), b) issue (systematic examination of the Dundee jute industry’s decline, strategic response and role of collective strategies), c) method (detailed study of individual firm’s strategies), and d) cross comparison of industry’s experience with related sectors (for example, the cotton industry). Focusing on these issues has helped to throw new light on the challenges, especially technological, facing the industry in developing its strategic response.

Persons covered are Carl Gustav Jung, Martin Heidegger, and Eugen Fischer. This thesis aims at discovering something common and fundamental about the intellectuals' relationship to politics as such. The relationship each had with National Socialism is evaluated with an eye to their distinct academic backgrounds. The conclusion of this thesis is that intellectuals succumb all too easily to political and cultural extremism; none of these three scholars saw themselves as National Socialists, yet each through his anti-Semitism and willingness to cooperate assisted the regime.

Cette thèse propose un éclairage sur la réalité de la Fonction analytique, sa physiologie, et les pathologies comportementales qui résultent de son dysfonctionnement. Nous y visitons les travaux de Freud, Jung et Lacan. Par une approche de comparatisme de leurs « écritures respectives », nous découvrons les fondements de la Fonction analytique. Tous trois tiennent leur savoir d’une approche transdisciplinaire (mythologie, alchimie, Taoïsme, linguistique, mathématiques, etc.) Freud précise le rôle indispensable de la pulsion en décrivant ses quatre caractéristiques. Avec son travail sur le «Bloc-notes magique », il énonce les modalités de la gravure psychique. La physiologie analytique comprend deux stades distincts : le premier ou « tronc commun » correspond à la gravure de la trace mnésique (Freud). Ce stade se déroule selon le mode binaire : ça pour Freud, persona pour Jung, imaginaire pour Lacan. Le second, se développe à partir du tronc commun, selon la modalité ternaire : la structure arborescente. C’est le stade du moi de Freud, du moi de Jung, du réel de Lacan. Cette phase, comme celle du brassage inter-chromosomique de la méiose biologique, produit une infinité de combinaisons. Modes binaire et ternaire représentent les phases principales de la Fonction analytique. Mais le mode binaire ne doit pas faire barrage au mode ternaire, en enfermant la psyché dans l’imaginaire (Lacan). La psyché doit se dépasser et faire oeuvre d’artiste. Nous montrons que le déséquilibre de l’archétype anima/animus (Jung) est cause de ces pathologies. Nous y voyons également que « la pensée judéo-chrétienne » joue un rôle de censeur, et fait obstacle à la modélisation ternaire
The following thesis proposes to shed some light on the reality of Analytical Function, its physiology and the behavioural pathologies that derive from its dysfunction. We revisit the works of Freud, Jung and Lacan. Through a comparativistic approach of their “respective writings”, we discover the very fundamentals of Analytical Function. And all three had gathered their knowledge using a transdisciplinary approach (mythology, alchemy, Taoism, linguistics, mathematics etc…) Freud points out the main role of the drive by describing its four characteristics. In his “Magic Note Pad” he states the modalities of the psychic imprint. Analytical physiology comprises two distinct stages: the first one - “the common trunk”- refers to the imprint or engraving of the mnemonic marking. This stage unfolds according to a binary mode: the “It” for Freud, the “persona” for Jung and the “Imaginary” for Lacan. The second stage stems out of the common trunk on a ternary mode: the arborescent structure. This is the stage of the “I” for Freud, the “Self” for Jung and “the Real” for Lacan. This stage-just like the inter-chromosomal brew of the biological meiosis- produces an infinity of combinations. Binary and ternary modes represent the main phases of Analytical Function. Nevertheless the binary mode must not block out the ternary mode by locking the psyche into Lacan’s “Imaginary”. The psyche must go beyond itself and become its own artist. We show that the disequilibrium of Jung’s anima/animus archetype provokes these pathologies. We also notice that the “Judeo-Christian” way of thinking plays a censorship role and becomes an obstacle for the implementation of the ternary mode

Les frontières entre la recherche empirique et les constructions théoriques sont au centre de ce travail ; elles en constituent le point nodal. Nous cherchons à interroger, à travers l'idée de Dieu, les soubassements des théories de Freud et de Jung à fin de comprendre leurs présupposés sur la nature du psychisme. Malgré les siècles, voire millénaires de débat sur la psyché, ses fondements ne restent pas moins méconnus. En effet, la psychologie des profondeurs a dû faire face à cette difficulté, et aussi bien Freud que Jung a essayé d'y répondre. Néanmoins, les différences d'approche, parfois radicales, laissent entrevoir les obstacles pour cerner l'objet et créer un langage commun. Nous allons prendre l'idée de Dieu comme un cas de figure pour nous approcher des deux auteurs en question et faire valoir leurs approches de l'inconscient et de la psyché. Tous les deux se sont appropriés de cette notion et ont essayé de trouver une solution psychologique au vécu religieux. Leurs résultats ne sauraient être plus différents, même s'ils tiennent-" le discours du fondement empirique de leurs recherches. A quoi doit-on cela? Pourquoi la psychologie des profondeurs produit des positions si dissemblables ? Si la recherche empirique est la source de ces théories, comment se fait-il que l'on arrive à des données contradictoires, voire à des paradoxes sur le même objet ? Qu'est-ce que cela nous révèle sur la nature de la psyché ? Notre travail a essayé de montrer que la recherche en psychologie des profondeurs outrepasse souvent les limites de l'empirie, surtout quand il est question d'expériences radicales du sens, dont la psyché, et Dieu, en font partie
The limits between empirical research and theoretical speculation are in the core of this work. By using the idea of God, we tried to seize up the basic concepts of Freud and Jung theories, so as to understand their presupposition concerning psyche's nature. Despite centuries, even millennia of debates about the psyche, its foundations are still mostly unknown, and though the idea of unconscious enhances the complexity of the psychic System, it does not solve the problem. Actually, depth psychology faced this difficulty, as both Freud and Jung tried to propose some answers to it. Nevertheless, their different approaches to the unconscious, sometimes radical, suggest important difficulties to conceive the object and to set up a common language. We will discuss these questions starting from the notion of God - a problematic concept by its own nature - as our analytical paradigm, in order to get closer to Freud's and Jung's approaches to the psyche. Both authors worked on this notion, for different reasons and by distinct ways, but in both cases they were trying to find out a psychological solution to religious experience. Their results however could not be more different, even if they held an empirical discourse to shore up their conclusions. How depth psychology produces such unlike positions? If empirical research is at the base of this approach to the psyche, how is it possible to reach contradictory data or even paradoxes concerning the same object? What does it reveal about psyche's nature? This research tried to show that depth psychology goes often beyond the limits of empirical research, especially when radical experiences of meaning, as God, are concerned

This thesis was made on the purpose of demonstrate the fundamental contributions and contrasts between Freud’s and Jung’s theories on the problem of the paranoiac delusions. To persecute this goal we have chosen to discuss the developments of both theories individually and, in doing so, demonstrate the primary conceits that were associated with them and then, finally, distinguish the main contributions between the two psychological systems. Afterwards we have shown how those influences were made possible and by which means they came to be. The main contributions verified were the inspiration of Freud’s theory of libido to Jung’s own, the importance of Jung’s complexes theory to Freud and their mutual interest in the archaic inheritances verified in the delusions of the paranoiac patients. We have found that the differences in the context, and the inevitable presuppositions did not cripple a dialogue and some significant contributions between them. Notwithstanding, these contributions were made possible only by a recreation of the ideas according to the internal context of the system which, of course, is modified in the process.
Esta dissertação tem por objetivo demonstrar as contribuições mútuas e contrastes fundamentais entre as teorias de Freud e Jung quanto ao delírio paranóico. Para alcançar esse objetivo, decidimos abordar individualmente as teorias e, por essa via, demonstrar os principais conceitos associados a elas para, apenas então, distinguir as principais contribuições entre os dois sistemas psicológicos a respeito do delírio. Em seguida, elucidamos como essas influências foram possíveis e de que maneira elas se originaram. As principais contribuições verificadas foram: a influência da noção freudiana de libido para a teoria de Jung, a importância da teoria junguiana dos complexos para a Psicanálise freudiana e seu interesse mútuo sobre as heranças arcaicas verificadas nos delírios. Constatamos que as diferenças no contexto e os inevitáveis pressupostos não impediram o diálogo e algumas contribuições importantes entre os dois pontos de vista. Os aportes, entretanto, somente foram possíveis com a recriação das noções de acordo com o contexto interno de cada sistema que, decerto, também se modifica no processo em sentido amplo.
