Abstract (sommario):
“All his life long, wherever Jesus looked he saw the world not in terms simply of its brokenness—a patchwork of light and dark calling forth in us now our light, now our dark—but in terms of the ultimate mystery of God's presence buried in it like a treasure buried in a field. … To be whole, I believe, is to see the world like that. To see the world like that, as Jesus saw it, is to be whole. And sometimes I believe that even people like you and me see it like that. Sometimes even in the midst of our confused and broken relationships with ourselves, with each other, with God, we catch glimpses of that holiness and wholeness that is not ours by a long shot and yet is part of who we are.”

Abstract (sommario):
In this article, the authors present the teachings of nêhiyaw (Cree) Emerging Elder and Knowledge Keeper Joseph Naytowhow. In a celebrated nêhiyaw (Cree) fashion, storytelling and language are used as examples of a non-linear and sometimes complicated journey back to self, culture, nature and healing. Against the background of being kidnapped, imprisoned in a religious institution, and robbed of all-things nêhiyaw (Cree), this article offers a sense of Joseph Naytowhow’s journey back to intimacy, love, and affection which aids in one’s search for emotional safety. Joseph utilizes nêhiyawîhtwâwin (Cree worldview and culture) knowledge tools such as dreaming to aid in his journey back to nêhiyawîhtwâwin (Cree culture) and nêhiyawêwin (Cree language). From a residential school internee to a leader and emerging Elder, he notes the importance of mentors in a relational approach to healing. This article provides an invitation through “the sunrise song” to “Wake up!” and create a more respectful and reciprocal world of internal wholeness.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Innovation in gerontological education has been a driving catalyst since the beginning of my career over 30 years ago. While sometimes seen as a curse, this catalyst has shaped my teaching pedagogy in unimaginable ways. Examples include field trips with 40+ students, developing an aging toolbox for students to make the material more concrete, creating a new interactive television teaching platform over multiple university campuses, developing experiential curriculum and an undergraduate minor in aging, and proudly, developing AGHE’s first teaching institute now in its 11th year. Unexpectedly, at this stage of my career, I have become very aware that my teaching about aging has intersected with my personal aging, shaping my personal pedagogy in profound ways--increased empathy, sensitivity, and social awareness. I am living the subject matter I thought I intimately knew. I am the other. Has my teaching been inauthentic? Hypocritical? Ageist? Please join me for a healthy discussion on how this insight can be leveraged to teach the next generation of aging scholars.

Abstract (sommario):
This study discusses the psychological journey of the female heroine in Margaret Atwood's Surfacing. This paper applies the psychological approach since it is believed to be the most suitable approach to analyze the process of the heroine’s journey towards wholeness. It aims at analyzing the process of individuation which occurred in the main plot of the novel as well as the characteristics of the process on the heroine’s personal quest. The portrayal of the individuation process is identified through the theory of individuation proposed by Charles Gustav Jung which discusses the process of the individual’s development towards a psychological completeness. In order to support the analysis, library research was conducted alongside the novel itself as well as the supporting articles from any reliable websites. The result shows that the heroine’s journey can be translated as Jungian’s theory of individuation as there are six characteristics of the process of individuation found within the story. Furthermore, there are five stages occurred in the heroine’s journey, namely the recognition of the persona, the assimilation with the shadow, the confrontation with the animus, and lastly the appearance of the Self that leads the heroine towards psychological wholeness

Abstract (sommario):
This study explores the bell’s attributes as a representation of wholeness, analyzed through the lens of analytical psychology. Encompassing its production, religious significance, and literary references, our aim is to uncover the profound meaning behind the bell. The bell’s transformative journey parallels the internal struggles of individuals grappling with emerging energies while bringing unconscious thoughts into awareness. As a potent symbol, the bell possesses the unique power to bridge and harmonize opposing elements. It plays a dual role as both a religious emblem and a literary motif, embodying spirituality as a conduit for divine communication, while also safeguarding against malevolent spirits and natural perils. Additionally, it symbolizes the intricate balance between feminine and masculine forces. The resonating sound of the bell serves to awaken consciousness, initiating a cyclical process alternating between awareness and the unconscious, facilitating the experience of death and rebirth. Operating as an alarm, it illuminates existence, stirring the psyche toward an altered state of awareness and eventual conscious realization. Therefore, the bell acts as a catalyst, facilitating creative transformation that integrates disparate aspects into unity, embodying the essence of wholeness within an individual’s psyche. Through this exploration, we shed light on the bell’s pivotal role in profound psychological transformation.

Abstract (sommario):
Within the context of their grieving families, this grounded theory study explored survivors' experiences of healing following youth suicide. The major theme developed in this study, Journeying Toward Wholeness, is conceptualized as a process involving the inter-relationships among three sub-themes: Grieving in Response to Youth Suicide, Mourning in Response to Youth Suicide, and Healing in Response to Youth Suicide. Initially, grieving, mourning, and healing occur within individual and family realms. Theoretically congruent with systems theory, this mid-range grounded theory suggests that grieving, mourning, and healing are embedded within a broader social context. This theory purports that grieving, mourning, and healing are related, dynamic, and seamless processes influencing each person's journey toward wholeness following youth suicide. This theory supplements the basis of holistic practice, directs us to accept a broad range of survivors' expressions of movement towards wholeness and health, stresses the importance of working with survivors' stories, and encourages us in relational practice.

Wholeness and Holiness in Education: An Islamic Perspective is a veryinteresting book. Although the book is a result of her experience as aMuslim graduate student in Canada, she does not mention any personal reasonsfor writing this book, but rather tackles it very lightly without mentioningthe hard experiences she faced when her faith was questioned. AMuslim who has taken her faith for granted for years and had had little orno communication with the West was questioned for the first time in her lifeabout many aspects of her faith and found herself unable to provide adequateanswers. Her book is the result of such an experience, one whichmany others in her circumstances and situation have faced and will have toface. Although the author frequently tackles abstract ideas, she always providesscholarly explanations and discussions by quoting and elaboratingupon many well-known figures in various disciplines. The book is divided into four parts and has a total of nine chapters. Thefirst part, “Reflection on Personal Experience,” includes two chapters. Inthem, she tries to take the reader from her own personal experience to thebook’s goal: preparing Muslim students in their homelands’ educationalsystems to think and question their faith so that they can stand on solidground. In chapter 1, “The Spiritual and Intellectual Journey,” she apologizesfor including her personal experience growing up as a Muslim.Actually, more elaboration upon such experiences and on the conflicts shefaced while studying in Canada would have been appreciated, as such atopic requires that personal experiences be shared, given that they are notlimited to one person but rather to millions of individuals. Abstract (sommario):
Life on earth is often depicted in literature as a journey from the cradle to the grave. The journey motif therefore is crucial in understanding the growth of characters as well as the shift in spatial and ideological locations embedded in a work of art. This paper discusses the incessant journeys embarked upon by the protagonist in Suemo Chia's novel, Adan-Wade Kohol Ga (The Story of Adan-Wade) which destinations have invariably resulted in unfulfilled wishes. This idea echoes the psychoanalysis of Jacques Lacan in which the psychological growth of an individual from infancy to adulthood is likened to a journey of discovery of the world order that limits his desires. It explains the loss of the idyllic bliss of childhood by individuals and their inability to retrieve it as they journey into different destinations or aspirations of life. The novel proves that life is a farce, an illusion we engage in but get no fulfilment or recompense for the loss of pre-oedipal wholeness. th *Being a paper presented at the 35 Anniversary of the Publication of Suemo Chia's Adan-Wade Kohol Ga on Wednesday, 23rd May, 2018.

Abstract (sommario):
Over the past decades, cis-women have obtained opportunities to demonstrate their skills and voice their opinion in what had predominantly been male-dominated settings, estab- lishing that there is no such environment unbefitting of their presence. However, this develop- ment in gender equality carries the question whether people of all genders are conditioned to change their innermost self in order to feel welcomed in Western societies which are predicated on masculine principles. In The Heroine’s journey: Woman’s Quest for Wholeness Maureen Mur- dock utilizes Jungian archetypes to examine the methods in which collective and one’s individual femininity keeps being suppressed in favor of traditionally established masculine traits. Outlin- ing each stage of the heroine’s journey, a psychoanalytic model of her own making, Murdock asserts that each individual must strike the balance between masculinity and femininity within themselves in order to complete their own, and others’, quest for wholeness. Considering that in The Bloody Chamber Angela Carter transforms masculine-driven fairy-tales into those celebrat- ing the aforementioned quest for balance, the purpose of the paper is to provide a detailed exam- ination of how Carter’s anthology follows the heroine’s journey. The paper establishes that each story corresponds to a stage in the heroine’s mythic quest, and that Murdock’s interpretation of Jungian archetypes echoes the character arcs of Carter’s heroes and heroines.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper decodes the story of Campbell’s namesake, Joseph of Genesis, son of Jacob. It demonstrates that Joseph, much more so than Moses, represents the archetypal hero. Joseph is called to adventure into the unknown. Due to the boundedness of the Abrahamic worldview, Joseph must leave monotheistic Israel to fulfil his potential in polytheistic Egypt. It is as viceroy of Pharaoh that he comes into his own power, his political eminence an emanation of his intuitive, creative power. Joseph’s journey itself serves as the Call to Adventure for the hero’s journey of Israel: Israel, as a people, must recognize Joseph’s creative power and follow him into Egypt to realize their own procreative power. Before returning to the familiarity of the desert, the motherless children of Israel are called into the unknown to be nourished by the Nile. It is at the banks of the Nile that they fulfil their divine mandate to multiply. Joseph’s intuitive power—the ability to receive and interpret prophetic dreams—makes explicit what is implicitly encoded in the Campbellian hero’s journey: the masculine individual consciousness venturing into the feminine collective unconscious, matrix of creativity, in pursuit of wholeness. His story moreover celebrates the centrality of personal transformation to the Campbellian heroic quest, flourishing through embodiment of transformational leadership.

Abstract (sommario):
Man’s life has always been looked upon as a journey. Like any other journey, life has its own destination too. The destination is contingent on the direction the voyage is made. In case of the majority, the direction is outward – from the ‘self.’ That is why the common lot never become individuals. Rather they are reduced with time to a part of the system which is euphemistically called ‘human society.’ A few, however, make the movement in the opposite direction – to the ‘self.’ The journey of such a person is never easy. He needs to pass through various phases of life. Having done that, he gains ‘wholeness’ of existence, that is, his ‘self.’ In that self coexists the contrary inclinations – good and evil, moral and immoral, conscious and unconscious. Hermann Hesse’s timeless classic ‘Demian’ bears the same motif. The protagonist, Sinclair, is able to explore his self only when he has experienced the opposite forces of life. Sinclair’s friend Demian who throughout the journey remains his guide, becomes a part of his consciousness like God in the end.

Abstract (sommario):
Research is a process of self-engagement, for researchers project their own identities and conflicts into their professional work. In this autobiographical account, the author describes her background as a middle-class Catholic in Cleveland, her education and work experience in chemistry, her community activism, and her experiences as a doctoral student, faculty member, and consultant in organizational behavior. From this personal history four key themes emerge that inform her work: developing meaningful relationships, dealing with diversity, commitment to social change, and empowerment. These themes are particularly evident in her work on multiparty collaboration to resolve business and social problems. The author suspects that her gravitation toward organizational transformation and collaboration reflects her own inner search for wholeness.

In this article, I share my journey toward haunting wholeness in the social justice work that I am beginning to take up as a scholar, teacher, and community member. I evoke Avery Gordon’s notion of haunting, defining it as an experience in which “that which appears to be not there is often a seething presence, acting on and often meddling with taken-for-granted realities.” Investigating hauntings that take place in our lives can take us to a “dense site where history and subjectivity make social life.” Should we dwell and work in this site, should we take up hauntings and their “ghostly things,” I believe, as Gordon does, that we can conjure “a very particular way of knowing what has happened or is happening,” an affective and transformative way of knowing about our moving and relating in the world with others as social beings.

Abstract (sommario):
The personal journey to caring actions informed by theory (praxis) that the author shares in this paper emerged from frustration with accepted nursing practice and changed her perspective on nursing encounters. She describes aspects of her doctoral research, in which she used Newman’s theory of health as expanding consciousness (HEC) to explore life patterns and underlying patterns of 7 women living with chronic illness. The mutual, caring relationships that she developed with these women show how a focus on pattern, transformation, and wholeness can make a difference in nursing. Aspects of this caring praxis are illuminated.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose: Recently, the literature has witnessed a surging interest regarding the use of mind–body approaches with people who have aphasia, generating a plethora of possible outcome measures. During this same time, a core outcome set for aphasia has been recommended. The purpose of this clinical focus article is to give our survivor, co-survivor, and clinician stakeholder coauthors a platform to share their personal narrative regarding their yoga journey, with the goal of identifying primary outcome domains central to capturing the impact of yoga on the recovery process for people with poststroke aphasia. Ultimately, we hope this clinical focus article helps clinicians understand how yoga might benefit their patients and draws attention to potential outcome measures, while also highlighting the important fact that traditional aphasia assessments do not capture the improvements stakeholders pinpoint as crucial to the essence of mind–body interventions. Method: This clinical focus article summarizes the case reports of Terri's and Chase's poststroke yoga journeys using the power of personal narrative and an adapted photovoice method. Additional stakeholders share in this storytelling process, using a variety of narrative tools. As this story is unveiled, several patient-identified outcome domains are highlighted as essential to document the impact of yoga on survivors. Results: Terri's and Chase's yoga journeys revealed the multifaceted impact of yoga on five domains: (a) feelings of wholeness and “zen,” (b) increased attentional capacity for language tasks, (c) increased verbal fluency, (d) decreased pain, and (e) relationship mutuality. Conclusion: Team Yoga realized that the practice of yoga—whether as a stand-alone practice or integrated into therapy sessions—fosters feelings of wholeness or “zen,” which likely correlates with decreased pain with a simultaneous increase in resilience and flexibility of coping strategies to manage the host of chronic poststroke challenges. Abstract (sommario):
The late black American feminist lesbian poet Audre Lorde (1934–1992) was known in feminist communities in the United States, Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, and elsewhere for her poetry and prose about how to survive various forms of oppression. Though Lorde authored many political and spiritual poems and essays (including psychological topics) in her adulthood, little has been written about Lorde’s early psycho-spiritual spiritual journey from Catholicism to I Ching, which informed her adult integrated African spirituality, which in turn informed her political and social consciousness. Lorde’s poems to God, written during puberty and post-puberty, and her embrace of I Ching nondualism, provides insight into how Lorde understood the psycho-spiritual challenges of surviving through hopelessness and despair, and into confidence and hopefulness.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper aims at juxtaposing the Buddhist notion of enlightenment with the Jungian concept of individuation. It attempts to explore how the dissolving of ego and approaching the subliminal consciousness in the path of self-realization stand parallel to Jung's idea of dismantling one's persona and connecting with the self, respectively. Siddhartha's journey towards enlightenment offers a psychological reading through which an interplay between ego-consciousness and the collective unconscious could be studied. Archetypal method of analysis is applied to Herman Hesse's novel Siddhartha to analyze the protagonist's psychological journey with regard to different archetypes of individuation. The study draws on Carl Gustav Jung's theory of individuation which is employed as a theoretical framework to see how the protagonist makes his unconscious conscious. Study reveals that 'Siddhartha attains psychological wholeness, transcends beyond archetypal existence and becomes his own person. His striving for meaning is very much in line with the Jungian notion of individuation.

Abstract (sommario):
Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist depicts the protagonist’s hunt for treasure which is highly symbolic of the spiritual quest for self-realization and self-discovery. Motivated by the recurring dream of a hidden treasure and desirous of bringing meaning to his life, Santiago undertakes a journey. This paper contends that his journey towards the realization of his dream actually involves a psychological process of individuation that integrates the contrasting aspects of the human psyche and makes use of the unconscious as conscious. It is an attempt to analyze his physical travels from a psychoanalytic perspective so as to posit that seeking spirituality is more about psychological change than temporal and spatial mobility. This investigation is, in fact, based on the exploration of how Coelho’s protagonist completes this process of wholeness and it draws on the theory of individuation presented by Swiss Psychoanalyst Carl Gustav Jung. By using Jungian Archetypal method of analysis, it can be seen that Santiago is very much influenced by operative archetypes, the acceptance and integration of which has an impact on his spiritual development. The realization that the physical treasure lies exactly where he initiated his journey is the consequence of his self-actualization.

Abstract (sommario):
Numerous spirituality models and tools have been developed in health education and research, but a gap still exists around the conceptual clarity and articulation of spirituality among nurses and healthcare providers. Nurses and healthcare providers still find it difficult to interpret and apply the concepts of spirituality in their practice settings. This paper provides a concept analysis of spirituality using the Walker and Avant method of conceptual analysis. Several databases including conceptual and empirical literature from various disciplines have been used. The defining attributes of spirituality included spirituality and religion as a separable or mutual construct, spirituality as a personal construct, wholeness and integration, meaning making and purpose, sense of connectedness and relationship, transcendence, inner source of power, energy, and strength. Major antecedents of spirituality found were faith, personal values, and belief systems, and life adversities. Consequences of spirituality included personal/spiritual growth and wellbeing, resilience, and religiousness. Spirituality is a unique and personal human experience, an individualised journey characterised by multiple experiential accounts such as meaning making, purpose, connectedness, wholeness and integration, energy, and transcendence. Spiritual experiences are often difficult to examine and measure using scientific tools and empirical language. Healthcare providers need to fully understand and apply spirituality and spiritual care aspects to provide holistic person-centred care.

Abstract (sommario):
PurposeThis paper explores the idea of the prudent entrepreneurial self, through re-conceptualizing prudence into the domain of entrepreneurial education, to unite the two processes of becoming enterprising and entrepreneurial. It is argued that developing a capacity for prudence among graduates involves past, present and conjecture forms of knowledge that the authors find in the interplay between individuation and social awareness.Design/methodology/approachBuilding on Palmer's idea of wholeness, the authors discuss six poles of paradoxes in entrepreneurial education and in conjunction establish a philosophical argument for the idea of stimulating the development of prudence as fundamentally important to contemporary notions of entrepreneurial education.FindingsThe paper presents a model to develop a schema that moves students towards becoming prudent entrepreneurial selves. The model rests on two interrelated developmental processes – individuation and social awareness – conditional for developing the three forms of knowledge (past, present and conjecture) that makes up prudence where developing prudence is a means to handle or cope with the unknown.Research limitations/implicationsThis paper argues that for enterprise and entrepreneurship education to realize their potential contributions, both the relationships between each field and the overarching purpose that ties the fields together need to be rethought, and the poles of paradoxes need to be connected to further develop both fields and creating wholeness for the emerging scholarly discipline.Practical implicationsTo educate towards the prudent entrepreneurial self means educating towards an unknown end where student development aims to meet both the objectives of individual development and the growth in social awareness required to handle the changing nature of contemporary society.Originality/valueThis study philosophically conceives a united enterprise and entrepreneurship education landscape in which deeper student learning makes possible the notion of the prudent entrepreneurial self.

Abstract (sommario):
Difficult emotions and cognitive states are recognised in second wave positive psychology as being a gold mine for personal growth. The growing body of knowledge in positive psychology gives coaching psychologists a perimeter to work with, whilst archetypal shadow analysis, rooted in Jung’s teachings, gives depth and insight. While definitions of coaching vary considerably, it can be argued to function as shining a light onto things that are hidden for the client, thereby bringing wholeness and clarity. Interpretive phenomenological analysis was used to analyse coaching with the shadow in mind, where this work became defined as looking at parts that are hidden, suppressed, unowned and unacknowledged by us and others. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with four professional coaches. Three higher order themes were identified: the coach’s personal journey through the shadow; what a shadow coach does; and the client’s journey into the shadow. These themes may generate insight into this paradigm of coaching for the first time and is an important step in the ongoing integration of second wave positive psychology and coaching psychology.

Abstract (sommario):
In this visual essay, I render my journey up the Tower of Experience. The tower has four levels ‐ physical, emotional, cognitive and spiritual ‐ and each level expresses a different way of knowing and experiencing. These levels express a deep and broad interpretation of reality, and thus a way through which to understand artistic experience and inquiry. The tower illustrates perennialism’s hierarchical stages of ascent towards wholeness of Being, which inspire me to create integral and holistic arts learning experiences for my visual arts education students. The purpose of this essay was to visualize my felt-sense of the tower and connect this to my teaching concerns. In subsequent investigations, I will analyse the symbolism and phenomenological response to the tower artworks.

Abstract (sommario):
The labyrinth has always been an intriguing symbol symbolizing life's journey. And the mathematical labyrinth is a kind of labyrinth through which students sometimes wander, and sometimes clearly and decisively see where they are going. Sometimes they feel insecure, lost and scared, and sometimes they feel fulfilled, inspired and safe. This paper reveals how the understanding of the mathematical labyrinth contributes to a better implementation of mathematics teaching, better cooperation between teachers and students, as well as to the understanding of mathematics and all the potentials it symbolizes. In the mathematical labyrinth, students can meet the warrior and the teacher, Theseus and the Minotaur, light and darkness and gather experiences, knowledge, mathematical fruits that lead them to the center and wholeness.

Abstract (sommario):
Background and Aim: Medicine is traditionally considered a healing profession, yet concepts of healing are rarely applied to mental illness, recovery being the dominant discourse. This article reports one aspect of the results of a broader exploration, through a service user lens, of aspects of place that facilitate healing in mental health care, with a resulting conceptualisation of healing. Method: The research material comprised the author’s historical writings of her experience of mental illness and recovery and in-depth individual interviews with 10 mental health service users. Analysed thematically, emerging ideas were further developed through an autoethnographically informed, reflexive and iterative process. Results: Healing is necessary when there has been a disruption of integrity and wholeness, experienced as suffering. Offering opportunities for connection, integration and transformation, and acquiring wisdom along the way, healing is a journey of exploration that takes time and is hard work. Discussion: Healing is conceptualised as the intensely personal experience at the heart of recovery, reminding us of the fundamental personal processes at the heart of our journeys. As a universal human experience, healing potentially removes the sense of othering that is at the heart of mental illness stigma.
