Abstract (sommario):
The professional ethics of journalists stands out as a pressing issue in contemporary public opinion. This article delves into the impact of the national mentality on journalists’ ethical norms and positions, as endorsed by global journalistic associations. “Journalistic ethics is a pivotal aspect of a journalist’s work. The in-depth reading, comprehensive understanding, and exploration of this represent one of the significant challenges in Kazakh journalism. This complex issue, often overlooked, remains insufficiently acknowledged in both scholarly and professional domains,” the study thoroughly examines within the context of the national mentality. The research provides a scholarly understanding of the continuity of traditions, customs, life positions, and perspectives of the Kazakh people in today’s national journalism. The investigation scrutinizes the extent to which national manners shape journalistic ethics. Many media outlets have exceeded boundaries to boost viewership or readership, exaggerating with high ratings and disseminating misinformation, thereby shaping a contemporary model of journalistic culture. The authors highlight the challenging conditions for information dissemination influenced by such factors. In the final conclusion, the study establishes that scrutinizing ethical principles in the media aids in predicting developmental processes in the state and society, facilitating the formulation of strategies to transform social communication and media culture into a beneficial channel for society.

Abstract (sommario):
The article discusses the concept of journalistic ethics in the PRC, documents codifying ethical norms, as well as the basic principles that guide Chinese journalists in their professional activities. The authors identify principles of the ethics of journalists in the modern PRC: conducting professional work in the interests and in accordance with the values of the CPC; perceiving information as something to be given, as news to be reliably told to the general public. The journalist must be an exemplary representative of Chinese society who is able to inspire and lead the people of the PRC. This statement, according to the analyzed survey, is supported by the majority of journalists in China. Less attention is paid to practical recommendations for the work of journalists than to ideological postulates from both the government, the controlling organization, and the journalistic community.

Abstract (sommario):
This study is based on the scholars' critique of the Indonesian media reporting on disaster for focusing on vulnerable groups' suffering, sadness, and grief. The absence of comprehensive journalistic ethical guidelines for disaster published photographs in Indonesia, might contribute to the recurring choice and publication of such images in Indonesian print newspapers. Examining major disasters, including the 2004 Aceh Tsunami, the 2006 Yogyakarta and Central Java earthquake, the 2010 Mt. Merapi Eruption, and the 2015 Sumatra Forest fires, this research provides critical evidence for re-evaluating the Indonesian journalist’s codes of ethics, especially concerning the published photographs of disaster victims. Methodologically, this study draws on interviews with six Indonesian journalists and two media practitioners, exploring the ethical practices and dilemmas in photojournalism with a specific emphasis on disaster reporting in Indonesian print newspapers. The transcripts were analysed thematically, emphasising the repeating ideas or patterns present in the text. It also includes an analysis of three graphic/disturbing photographs from the 2010 Mt Merapi eruption coverage in Kompas and Kedaulatan Rakyat newspapers. The study highlights the complex balance between ensuring truthful reporting and honouring the dignity and privacy of those affected by disasters. It advocates for a nuanced method in disaster coverage that harmonizes journalistic integrity with a compassionate portrayal of victims. This research contributes to the discourse on ethical disaster photojournalism and has significant implications for policy development, journalist training programs, and the revision of journalistic codes of ethics, promoting a more empathetic and responsible approach in the field.

Abstract (sommario):
This study assesses whether the ethics guidelines of modern media organizations reflect an adherence to the messages Janet Malcolm sent in her controversial 1990 book, The Journalist and the Murderer, particularly on the meaning of “truth,” on maintaining objectivity, on avoiding conflicts of interest and on journalistic transparency. This assessment finds the policies of The New York Times, the Associated Press and the Society of Professional Journalists reflect that Malcolm’s once-controversial arguments have become central in today’s mainstream journalistic ethical guidelines.

Abstract (sommario):
The ease of access offered by the internet makes many people choose to turn to online media as a source of information and news. One of the notable news media portals in Indonesia is Kompas.com. In conveying online news, Kompas.com journalists must, of course, pay attention to the journalistic ethical codes that have been regulated in the Press Law Number 40 of 1999. This research uses a qualitative approach with document analysis and note-taking methods. This study aims to answer whether the publication experience on Kompas.com affects the ability to analyze the author's code of ethics, what forms of violation of the journalistic code of ethics are found in Kompas.com's reporting and whether violations of the journalistic code of ethics can affect readers psychologically. The results of this study found that publication experience on Kompas.com did not affect the ability to understand the journalistic code of ethics. There are five forms of violations of the journalistic code of ethics that researchers found in Kompas.com news, and violations of the journalistic code of ethics can affect readers psychologically.

Drawing from 420 surveys addressed to news media practitioners, 30 in-depth interviews with media executives and 6 focus groups, this article focuses on the institutional dimensions of ethics in journalism and explores the way in which ethical standards are perceived by journalists and other representative groups involved in Spanish news media. The data show that participants ascribe moral obligations to journalistic institutions. Interviewees emphasise the predominance of market-driven interests over ethical values as one of the main threats to journalism. However, differences between the perceptions of journalists and media executives reveal that the latter believe that journalistic ethics pertain to individual journalists.

Abstract (sommario):
The aim of this study is to explore how one citizen journalist, Joakim Lamotte, reflects on codes of journalistic standards and ethics. Lamotte is a Swedish citizen journalist who publishes texts reporting on events in society on his Facebook-page. From the Facebook-page, five texts have been sampled for analysis in this study. This is done through using Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis as a methodology. The analysis is supported by Erving Goffman's theory of self presentation and Rom Harré and Luk van Langenhove's positioning theory as theorethical frameworks, to explore Lamotte's self presentation and how he is positioning in his role as a citizen journalist. Some of the main results of the study are that Lamotte uses the term independent journalist in the self presentation of his role, but at times includes himself in the group of the public (his audience). Throughout the samples he positions himself against professional journalists and mainstream media, as a way to reinforce his position as an independent journalist. While doing so, he criticises their choices and justifies his own choices relating to codes of journalistic standards and ethics. The study is an example of one citizen journalist with a large audience, in a Swedish context, reflects on codes of journalistic standards and ethics.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractDisinformation poses a significant challenge to epistemic rights globally, but the phenomenon manifests differently and is promoted by different actors in different countries and regions. The capture of legacy journalistic outlets and the creation of journalism-like sites without journalistic principles and ethics by commercial and political actors have resulted in the significant erosion of epistemic rights in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Based on three mapping projects created by the Media and Journalism Research Centre, formerly the Centre for Media, Data and Society, at Central European University, this chapter showcases shifts in economic and political conditions of epistemic rights in CEE by focusing on entities that violate epistemic rights by deliberately promoting disinformation in the region.

Abstract (sommario):
The research analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of the world’s scientific news aggregators, their resource support. In addition, it was found that the independence of the scientific press is one of the main criteria for the success of the aggregator and compliance with journalistic ethics. The task of the research is to resolve the problematic issue of resource funding, when state funding of aggregators allows the authorities to control the process of information publication. In parallel with state funding, funds or crowdfunding platforms allow the aggregator to exist without political bias. On the other hand, public financing of science popularization platforms can lead to global questions about the existence of the aggregator as such due to the lack of necessary funding.

Abstract (sommario):
In 2014, Republic of Serbia was hit by severe flooding causing death to fifty-seven civilians, evacuation of 31,879, and the damage greater then 1.7 billion euros. It has been determined that during these floods significant number of journalists and media hasn't been reporting accordingly to the ethical working principle in the crises. Main misuse and the breach of ethics was done towards the children and the minors whose faces weren't pixelated. Analyzing media work in Serbia it has been ascertained that journalist need additional education and training in the field of crises reporting, due to a high possibility of these crises repetition (floods, fires, earthquakes, migrant and any other disasters) in the territory of the Republic of Serbia. The piece brings out research that analyses relationship and interest of the journalist students- journalist to be for different e-education and e-trainings on the crises situation subject. We have examined whether respondents, which count 50 ( IV year journalist students at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad), are interested to use Moodle in the their education, digital platforms, also Skype as a form of lecturing attendance. Would they prefer e-education and e-training in their training of the crises situation, what kind of e-training, which social media would be most valuable during the crises, and are they familiar enough with English language to participate in the e-training. The main focus of this research is to determine whether the future journalist generations are capable to be educated by this new digital technology forms. Students were attending traditional courses and training in this media reporting in crises situation classes, but in Serbia until now there hasn't been many courses that includes e-education and e-training. By establishing this new elements of education not only great savings would be benefited, but also faster and productive training of the students in media work in the crises situations field.

Abstract (sommario):
This study examines the nature of the relationship between journalists and politicians in the age of media entrepreneurship, with emphasis on the factors and challenges faced by both media entrepreneurs and politicians while using digital media. This study relies on an inductive approach through using the qualitative method, this involves conducting interviews (N: 41) with journalists to discover whether they work in traditional media organizations or/and own and manage digital media enterprises, it also brings to lights new information about politicians, especially those who have media inclinations. This study reveals that digital media provide journalists with opportunities to achieve professional and financial independence. However, their work in the context of Iraqi scope does not go beyond spreading propaganda and promoting various agenda of political parties and politicians. In terms of the content of media entrepreneurship, this study unveils anonymous social media which are affiliated with/ or supported by politicians which work as piracy for trolling political opponents and activists. It is assumed that such social media have serious repercussions for freedom and privacy. This worries activists and journalists that they are unable to express their opinions freely for fear of being attacked by anonymous social media working on behalf of politicians. Therefore, the ethics of social media and their ownership seems to be a major concern in the Iraqi political media space, and it should be taken into consideration in future research.

Abstract (sommario):
AI-driven journalism refers to various methods and tools for gathering, verifying, producing, and distributing news information. Their potential is to extend human capabilities and create new forms of augmented journalism. Although scholars agreed on the necessity to embed journalistic values in these systems to make AI-driven systems accountable, less attention is paid to data quality, while the results' accuracy and efficiency depend on high-quality data. However, data quality remains complex to define insofar as it is a multidimensional, highly domain-dependent concept. Assessing data quality in the context of AI-driven journalism requires a broader and interdisciplinary approach, relying on the challenges of data quality in machine learning and the ethical challenges of using machine learning in journalism. These considerations ground a conceptual data quality assessment framework that aims to support the collection and pre-processing stages in machine learning. It aims to contribute to strengthening data literacy in journalism and to make a bridge between scientific disciplines that should be viewed through the lenses of their complementarity.

Abstract (sommario):
Being one of the most urbanized ethnic groups in Bessarabia, the majority of Russian population was engaged in professional activities. Th e article analyzes the specialized occupations of the Russian-speaking intellectuals from Kishinev when this region was a part of Royal Romania. Changes taken place in the labor market during this transitional historical period have transformed the formerly existing hierarchy of employment, moving the Russians from managerial and administrative structures to economic and cultural spheres of activity. Based on the materials that deal with the life trajectories of diff erent professional groups of intellectuals (offi cials, employees, lawyers, doctors, journalists, artists, etc.), the author reviews a less studied plot of adaptation of the Russian-speaking specialists to new political and socio-economic conditions, determining the ways and chances of their self-realization. Previous professions or the acquisition of new ones, able to realize the creative potential, could emphasize their signifi cance as the “owner of the profession” and allowed them to consistently maintain their habitual lifestyle and cultural traditions, contributing to social adaptation to the new reality.

Melnyk, Olesia. MEDIA DISCOURSE AROUND THE FIGURE OF ORIANA FALLACHI AND HER JOURNALISM DURING 2017–2020. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, marzo 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.50.11114.

Abstract (sommario):
The article analyzes the media discourse around the figure of Oriana Fallachi and her journalistic work during 2017-2020. The actual media image of the figure of Fallachi is highlighted, examples of positive and negative statements are given. It is substantiated why her journalism should be researched in various ways, taking into account other aspects of her work that are not related to Islamophobia. The subject of the study is critical texts in modern foreign media dedicated to the author’s work. The objective of the study is to outline the media discourse around the figure of Oriana Fallaci and her journalism during 2017-2020. The methodology. The following methods have been used in the process of scientific research: historical, comparative, systems analysis, content synthesis, and others. The main results. In total, we have analyzed eight materials in foreign publications, published over the past 3 years, as well as the two most famous biographies of Oriana Fallaci. Some of the most recent reviewed texts have been published in the last few months, reflecting the interest in the author’s journalism, her writing, and reporting. Therefore, we see the need for further tracking and analysis of this body of texts. Conclusions. Critics of Fallaci express polar views that are not all negative. Authors recommend quite cautiously her texts for reading, emphasizing their positive aspects. Both Fallaci’s biographies are also not entirely complementary: some aspects of her work are glorified, others are condemned. We managed to find general tendencies in the criticism of Oriana Fallaci’s journalism. These include accusations of xenophobia and Islamophobia, uncompromisingness, lack of political correctness, and moral value. The authors emphasize, at the same time, the openness and directness that bribe the reader, patriotism and honesty, strength of spirit and firmness of position. Significance of the research. The analysis of the latest criticism reveals what kind of media image Fallachi’s figure has today, and gives the possibility to research it for demonization and one-sided coverage. This is important not only for thorough research of the author’s work but also for understanding how the modern world perceives journalism, which is contrary to the generally accepted principles of political correctness, journalistic ethics, and humanity.

Rudyk, Myroslava. BLOGGING PLATFORMS AS ARENAS FOR THE MEDIA ACTIVITIES OF CITIZEN JOURNALISTS. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, marzo 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2024.54-55.12164.

Abstract (sommario):
The article is dedicated to the investigation of blogging platforms as information and communication arenas during wartime. It analyzes the media activities of citizen journalists as a crucial component of the overall information landscape in Ukraine, outlining the peculiarities of their work, the specifics of information dissemination, and the prospects for the development of citizen journalism as a whole. The advantages and disadvantages of citizen journalism are highlighted. Journalism is one of the most dynamic spheres of our existence, and the information space in Ukraine has undergone significant changes since the full-scale war. The development of technological tools always transforms journalism, elevating it to new levels of possibilities. The use of modern blogging platforms, widely accessible not only to professional journalists but also to activists, has contributed to powerful changes in the information sector. Citizen journalism during the Russo-Ukrainian war has taken on entirely different dimensions than before, prompting new reflections on the role of citizen journalists. This expands the scope of the researched issue, from ethical considerations and adherence to journalistic standards to understanding the safety of information activities for both journalists and humanity as a whole. Not every blogger can be called a citizen journalist. The crucial characteristic of citizen journalism, as opposed to mere blogging, is self-awareness, active social action, dedication to an idea, drawing attention to a problem, lobbying for public interests, and serving the function of public control. In the article were examined the activities of citizen journalists, who meet professional standards and exemplify citizen journalism. These include Ihor Lachenkov, Serhiy Sternenko, and Kostyantyn Liberov. Their blogging platforms and social networks were analysed, their content characterised, and posting frequency assessed. The activities of citizen journalists become most in-demand when media representatives cannot capture an event promptly at a particular moment. Citizen journalists find it easier to disseminate information through blogging platforms and social media, especially considering the tremendous trust these platforms enjoy. Survey results illustrate the colossal trust in these platforms. When asked, «What mass media tools did citizens use to get news in 2022?» the responses were as follows: 1. Social networks – 74%, 2. News websites – 42%, 3. Television – 36%, Radio – 11%, Print media – 3%. We observe a trend in the Ukrainian information space where some bloggers position themselves as citizen journalists, even though they previously did not have such a pronounced civic position. This trend became particularly evident at the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine when influencers started using their blogs to inform their audience about the events in Ukraine, mobilizing them for active volunteer actions and resisting enemy challenges. Keywords: citizen journalism, information dissemination, blogging platforms, war.

Abstract (sommario):
The article talks about the philosophical foundations that characterize the mechanism of internal inducement to action. As an academic, constitutional, and socio-ideological concept, the boundaries of freedom are outlined, which are displayed in the field of modern media space. The term «freedom» is considered as several philosophical concepts that formed the basis of the modern interpretation of this concept. The totality of its meanings is generalized into one that is adapted for the modern system. Parallels are drawn between the interaction of the concept of user freedom with the plane of domestic mass media because despite, the fact that consciousness is knowledge, the incoming information directly affects the individual and collective consciousness. Using the example of the most popular digital platforms, the components of the impact on users and the legal aspect of their implementation are analyzed. When considering the issues of freedom of choice and freedom of action on the Internet, special attention is paid to methods of collecting and processing information, in particular, the limitations and possibilities of digital programs-algorithms of the popular search engine Google. The types of personal information collected by Google about the user are classified and the possible mechanisms of influence on personal choice and access to information on the Internet are characterized. The article analyzes the constitutional guarantees of freedom and the impact of digital technologies on them. Particular attention is paid to ethics, in particular journalistic, which nominally regulates the limits of the humane, permissible, a / moral (unacceptable/acceptable) in the implementation of professional information activities in the media. Thus, the issue of freedom of choice and freedom of action in the plane of domestic mass media is subject to an objective examination of its components, they are analyzed for a proper constitutionally suitable phenomenon, which must be investigated from the point of view of compliance with human rights and freedoms and professional standards within the media.
