Abstract (sommario):
Due to an increase in pop culture consumption and social media use, traditional art forms such as classical music, pottery, and painting are not covered enough in modern journalism. Today traditional art forms, such as classical music, sculpture, and painting, are still seen in a very linear way, even though there are opportunities for this medium to be represented in media. Art journalism would not only help music to be utilized in various ways but also enhance society by exposing more people to art. Art journalists act as an amplifier for many artists by giving them a platform to promote their work and also allowing them to draw connections with each other. Additionally, art journalism promotes cultural appreciation because it often covers cultural events, music, and artwork with artistic aspects. Furthermore, providing these artists with an outlet to popularize their work allows people to discover certain cultures that they might not have otherwise. In all, given that classical forms of art are declining in popularity and the younger generation is becoming increasingly less exposed to traditional art, art journalism can be an effective way to maintain traditions and ensure that art forms such as classical music do not die out completely. The purpose of this research is to study how a decline in art journalism and journalism overall will impact our society and today’s youth, as well as study the statistical trends of artistic journalism. The research design will consist of quantitative research on the exact statistics of arts journalism and qualitative research concerning the effects of these factors and will be used to present the argument that art journalism is necessary for our society. The findings from quotes, graphs, and charts will be analyzed to do so, and summarized in the conclusion.

Abstract (sommario):
The article talks about one of the new directions in the development of modern journalism - art journalism, as well as about the place and development of "film journalism" in providing information within this direction, cinema. Today's film production is available not only in cinemas, but also on TV, tablets and the Internet. Therefore, it is important to take into account the development of modern film production and different methods of studying the film genre, as well as the function of cinema art in the socio-cultural space. The influence of modern technologies on film production is recognized as an urgent issue. In society in general, no one can limit a person's inner spiritual need and taste. As demand grows, the requirements and tasks for teleworking grow. Television equipment is also being developed taking into account the requirements. Since it is impossible to separate the history of television from cinematography, there is a need to consider film journalism from a theoretical and practical point of view. Therefore, it is necessary to know the theoretical foundations of working with information in the development of art journalism as one of the directions of industry journalism, the development of cinematography. It is known that speech in cinema and on television forms the culture of speech in society, so it is important from a practical point of view to pay attention to the use of the possibilities of cinema, theater and new media and consider the way of a comprehensive study of screen culture

Abstract (sommario):
The development of convergent journalism and new media formats has changed the journalistic content dedicated to the promotion of the high art. The paper represents an overview of the recent works devoted to the research subject. The authors consider such communicative tools for promoting the art and museum-exhibition direction in journalism as performative communications, PR technologies, digital innovations in the use of VR, and the art discourse. The authors’ overview lead to the conclusion that the art direction in journalism is attempting new techniques and methods of contact with the target audience (users), which generally has a positive effect on the practices of cultural media consumption.

Abstract (sommario):
The article describes the basic prerequisites for functioning of a phenomenon of the Ukrainian book journalism as a kind of cultural journalism. At present an increased attention to the cultural journalism from scholars and media experts is caused by the activation in sphere of the Ukrainian cultural management supported by long-term EUEastern Partnership Programme Culture and Creativity (2010―2018s). The subject of the study are both actual infrastructure of media (web portal, TV and broadcast media, blogs and vlogs) generating relevant content, as well as media workers (critics, bloggers, experts) working in this field. The generalized semantics of the terms «book journalism» and its derivatives ― «book mass media», «book journalist», have been justified. The main attention is paid to communicative efficiency of media specializing in topics related to the events and facts of the cultural life of society, especially literature and publishing (LitAzkent, Bukvoyid, Chytomo, BaraBuka, Space of Ukrainian Children’s Literature, UA: Ukrainske Radio, UA:Pershyi, UA: Kultura, Culturoprostir.ua, and so on). The most «painful points» of the Ukrainian cultural journalism, specifically those of the book journalism, have been outlined. Those are a lack of creative human resources, unwillingness/inability of journalists to communicate meaningfully and accessibly to a wide audience, as well as unpopularity of this type of journalism among media professionals. The specific criteria for assessing the professionalism of a book journalist are described, among them deep knowledge in the field of literature, book business, media; involvement in cultural processes, developed literary and art taste, rhetorical skills in popularizing special knowledge, ability to stable and regular work and so on. Prospects for the development of book journalism depend on the changing attitudes of society to culture, as well as a growth of popularity of book topics in non-mainstream media Keywords: сultural journalism, book media, book topic, literary criticism, book journalist.

In the article, the author describes, analyzes and interprets documents related to the earliest attempt at professional and academic commemoration of the scientific research practices of newspaper scientists at the State Journalism Institute (SJI). This is primarily the correspondence (1964–1967, Russian State Archive of Literature and Art) of two active participants in the life of the first domestic educational institution for journalists of the 1920s: Tomsk journalist V. A. Kuzmichev (1903–1994), graduate of the post-graduate school of SJI, and his former supervisor M.S. Gus (1900–1984). On the basis of commenting on the correspondents’ personal letters introduced into scientific circulation, the author shows how toxic the topic of the formation and existence of the first scientific journalism school was, even three and a half decades after its liquidation.

Abstract (sommario):
English
Ph.D.
Can journalism be avant-garde? This question arises from the body of work produced by the New Journalists, whose leading figures include Truman Capote, Tom Wolfe, Joan Didion, and Norman Mailer. Today, this question is urgent for considerations of the journalist’s role within a political landscape increasingly hostile to the news media. Yet it is a question that has not been sufficiently explored in the field of literary study. Scholars of literary journalism have identified the features of an experimental journalism, traced its historical origins, and made claims about how to situate the New Journalism generically. While important, this scholarship overlooks the relationship between experimentation with conventional journalistic form and similar experimentations in other artistic fields. As a result, the stakes of the New Journalism’s experimentations with conventional reporting have not been sufficiently mined. In order to remedy this, I place the New Journalism within a broader history of avant-garde art. The agitation of mainstream journalistic practice undertaken by each of the writers above was spurred by a questioning of a foundational journalistic practice: objectivity. The New Journalists challenged the authority of fact and its capacity to represent the human condition. This challenge to objectivity drove an experimentation with journalistic form that produced a deeply innovative body of work; however, these innovations are not merely formal. They also call into question the epistemological assumptions that tether journalism to a phenomenal world assumed to be fully representable. Significantly, the challenges to objectivity posed by the New Journalists parallel the challenges to representation posed by avant-garde artists like Paul Cezanne and Karel Appel. My dissertation thus situates the challenges to journalistic form undertaken by the New Journalists within a broader history of artistic experimentation and demonstrates that the significance of these experimentations exceeds the fields in which they occur. These arguments provide a framework for understanding not only the formal innovations of avant-garde artists, but also the epistemological consequences, and ethical imperatives, inherent in these innovations. My understanding of avant-garde art is informed by the work of Jean-Francois Lyotard. Over the course of his career, Lyotard illuminated the philosophical dimensions of artistic innovation. For Lyotard, one of the hallmarks of avant-garde experimentation is its ability to confront and redress problems across a variety of discursive fields. That is, Lyotard values avant-garde experimentation because it responds to discourses beyond its own, and much of Lyotard’s writing about avant-garde art establishes connections between artistic innovation and broader issues of ethics, politics, and justice. Over the course of this dissertation, I demonstrate how the New Journalism participates in this tradition by asking questions about the role and responsibility of the reporter through the self-conscious development of an experimental journalistic aesthetic.

Abstract (sommario):
The balance of the world has been built on various empires, kingdoms, civilizations and economic systems for centuries. This study is written in the belief that the center of the world rule started to change. The determiners are not the leaders or the systems anymore but the individuals themselves. People are aware of that their voice can easily reach to the rest of the world. For most of the people it is not onlysharing their ideas on various social networks but also playing an active role in the world order. Since every human being has different ways of expressing themselves, their active role will also differ from each other. This study focuses on the active role of Art, which is one of the important ways when it is about self-expression. By this research, it is aimed to find answers to the following questions: "How can art be effective in the change of the world?" and "In what point activist art differs from propaganda?"

Abstract (sommario):
Thesis (PhD)--Stellenbosch University, 2011.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study examines the discursive role and positioning of arts journalism at Die Burger during a period of radical transformation in South African society. The study is conducted within a critical-cultural paradigm. Arts journalists are considered to be manufacturers of cultural capital, a term devised by Pierre Bourdieu as part of his comprehensive field theory framework. While Bourdieu uses cultural capital in the main to describe the role of education and culture in the maintenance of elite power hierarchies, this study investigates how the nature of cultural capital at Die Burger was affected by power shifts when competing elites jostled for dominance in a post-apartheid dispensation. By drawing on Michel Foucault’s theory of discourse, the focus of research further incorporates the discursive positioning of arts journalists in their coverage of arts and cultural events in the 1990s in relation to shifting configurations of power. The argument is that arts journalism at Die Burger can be situated within networks of power and thus contributed to the structuring of post-apartheid society. In the words of Antonio Gramsci, arts journalists became involved in hegemonic and counter-hegemonic struggles. Flowing from these theoretical departure points, the study identifies critical discourse analysis (CDA) as an appropriate research method for textual analysis and adapts a five-phase model suggested by Teun van Dijk as part of his contextual CDA approach. The analysis thus focuses in turn on the context of discourse, discursive struggles between arts journalists and political journalists, strategies of classification used by arts journalists, emerging themes of discourse in arts journalism, and how the selection and presentation of arts journalism on news and arts pages were influenced by various factors, including the personal background and experiences of arts journalists (The concept of Bourdieu’s “habitus”). To affect triangulation and enhance the textual analysis, the study also employs semi-structured indepth interviews with arts journalists who were prominent at Die Burger in the 1990s. The study found that arts journalists were at the intersection of different and often diverging and contradictory power-points in post-apartheid discourses at the newspaper. On the one hand, some arts journalists embraced a legacy of editorial independence at the arts desk and sometimes created oppositional discourses to the official political view of the newspaper: for instance on the issue of alleged “collective guilt” for Afrikaners and whether Naspers should appear before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) to explain its role in supporting the National Party (NP) during apartheid. On the other hand, many arts journalists shared the editor’s apparent aversion to the international cultural boycott supported by the ANC and harboured some of the same skepticism about the so-called Africanisation of society and resultant attacks on Eurocentrism in the arts. This study -- the first on this level to focus on Afrikaans arts journalism since 1994 -- represents a significant contribution to knowledge in the under-researched field of arts journalism in South Africa. Its purpose and process has furthermore developed theoretical and methodological innovations which can enrich the field of journalism studies.

Marley, K. "The art of fact : an exploration of the relationship between theory and practice in documentary filmmaking". Thesis, Liverpool John Moores University, 2017. http://researchonline.ljmu.ac.uk/7607/.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
This practice led thesis is an exploration of the ways in which theory can inform practice in documentary filmmaking. Section 1 of the thesis provides an embedded review of literature in order to offer the reader a critical evaluation of the theoretical debates that have informed my documentary practice. This section analyses issues associated with definitional debates on documentary film, while also addressing the formal features associated with what Bill Nichols (1991; 2001) called modes of documentary. The work of particular filmmakers will be discussed, namely Dziga Vertov, Jean Rouch and the city symphony makers of the early 20th century, in relation to how their ideas and film work have had a major impact on my own approach to filmmaking. Section 2 is the practical portfolio of work itself and acts as an exploration of theory within a practical context. The audio-visual texts include, A Film About Nice (2010), a dawn-to-dusk city symphony, which focuses on capturing the everyday life of a European city. It echoes the tradition of the City Symphony makers of the early 20th Century, however the significant difference here is that I explore some of the visual techniques adopted by the filmmakers and explore them within a sonic context. This film can be seen as an exploration of the impact rhythm has on signification within film. Mechanized Deconstruction (2011) is a recording of a live performance at Documentary Now 2011. This was my first venture into producing documentary films within a live context, via the use of DJ/VJ technologies. There is a cine-poem, which acts as a collaborative approach to documentary, combining the work of the poet and the work of the filmmaker. It also acts an example of how some of the techniques I have developed during the live performance of documentary have had an impact on the documentary films that I have since produced. The Mill (2016) adopts a similar structure to The City Symphony, however this film can be seen as an Industrial Symphony, in that the focus here is on the rhythm, movement and the sonic dimension of the machine. In many ways this film can be seen as that which encapsulates the essence of the formalist approach I adopt when producing documentary films. Driven By Machines (2017) uses footage from The Mill and provides an example of how a filmmaker can de-familiarize actuality footage through post-production technique. This film acts as an ode to the abstract filmmakers such as Man Ray, Len Lye, Viking Eggelling and Hans Richter, all of who used actuality footage and abstracted this footage through manipulation techniques available to them at the time. In summary, Section 2 acts as an audio-visual explication of theory within a practical context. Section 3 is a critical reflection of the practical portfolio of work. Here I aim to explain how I have used certain filmmaking techniques as a way of exploring some of the theoretical concepts outlined in Section 1. This offers the reader an opportunity to gain insight into how theory can inform practice; as such the reader of my films is able to gain insight into authorial intention, therefore the reader is able to make a more informed analysis of my practical portfolio.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract This article analyzes the ways in which journalism comics and biography comics create indexicality through intermedial relations. These strategies include media representations of different qualified media types (journalistic report, biography, and autobiography) and of specific media products (such as familiar images of people and places). The article starts with a short history of comics. It then offers a theoretical discussion of intermediality, media representation, and transmediation, with specific focus on the tactics that journalism and biography comics use to represent reality indexically through media representation and transmediation. Furthermore, the authors analyze intermedial relations in the comic albums The Photographer: Into War-Torn Afghanistan with Doctors Without Borders by Emmanuel Guibert, Didier Lefèvre, and Frederic Lemercier; Il mondo di Aisha—Storie di donne dello Yemen by Ugo Bertotti; Maus by Art Spiegelman; To the Heart of the Storm by Will Eisner; Dotter of Her Father’s Eyes by Mary M. Abstract (sommario):
Health is a most common topic discussed in women magazine ranking from fashion to beauty, sexuality to art and culture. Biological health, mental health, fertility and sexual health are the most common topics which are given wide coverage. Whether this news, having quantitatively audience, is qualitatively health news is the primarily problem. The most of the news deals with particular subject such as medical selling, aesthetic advertisement and prototypes imposed on popular life. A large number of news reaching the audience read for health purposes cannot go beyond triggering the consumption culture. That is the starting point of this study. Abstract (sommario):
The purpose of the article is to analyze the features of the visual language of documentary photography and the actual ways of its presentation in the media space on the example of Ukrainian photo books dedicated to revolutionary events in Ukraine. The main problems of modern photojournalism connected with the development of digital technologies are presented, the value of a photo book as an independent project of a photographer is argued, since commercial photojournalism is largely determined by the narratives of its customer. The issues of the transformation of the language of photography both in modern journalism and in the photo project are considered, the main methods of creating the content of a photo story or photo series in photo books are substantiated. Traditional reportage documentary photography, intended for use primarily for commercial purposes in illustrated magazines, is also an important means of creating independent documentary projects or photo books. Such an approach is especially valuable if it reproduces important historical events, as in the Ukrainian photo books under consideration. Ukrainian photo books are distinguished by a variety of techniques for creating content and post-processing methods that appeal to the aesthetics of postmodernism. The use of filmy contrast black and white photography, grainy or blurry images, disruption of the composition, introduce a unique and original form of expressiveness into the photo book. Due to the documentary photography, direct nature of non-staged shootings and the original style of representation, Ukrainian photo books, which are both a document of history and a reflection of the subjective vision of the author, continue to arouse interest and resonate with the viewer.

Abstract (sommario):
The paper addresses the question why people are entering training programs which disseminate knowledge necessary for becoming part of the journalistic profession and how these motives go along with the intention to become a member of the profession. Therefore it draws on data collected among students in journalism related programs in Austria in 2015 (n=352) and tests the linkage between socioeconomic background of the students, their motives for entering a program and how these affect the intention to work in the field of journalism. Factor analysis allowed the identification of four main motives: political and social agency; employment driven; social benefits; and calling/talent. Results show that a) motives for entering a program differ according to the socioeconomic background of the respondents. And b) the intention to work in the field is higher if motives tied to the ideas of agency and calling are reported and lower if employment driven motives are predominant. This leads to the conclusion that the motivation of students to join the journalistic profession is deeply related to believes and normative aspirations of individuals.

Abstract (sommario):
The changes that are taking place in the essence of journalism as a social and professional activity are caused by the mixing of the practice of professional and citizen journalists, by the ability of media products to be distributed through a variety of media and digital channels, by the audience’s commitment not only to consume them through the multiple technological devices, but also personally to participate in their creation. The traditional norms of what journalism is and what are its functions, meaning and influence are a subject of continuous metamorphosis. The new types of journalism increase in the social, professional, and empirical field of media production. The journalism theory is enriched, and the analysis of specific models and professional standards is stimulated. The familiar notion of journalism as centralised around news production is expanded and it allows the description of new practices, which have been assessed as peripheral, hybrid, alternative. The journalism research evaluates new media practices produced by alternative media or those in the field of specialist journalism. The journalists in such start-up media have a sense of the mission of their activity, of being at the forefront of technological, social, and cultural transformations in society, of forming a community culture of exchange between them as content creators and their audience as consumers, but also as participants in the content creation, verification and distribution. Such media can be evaluated as the “agents of media innovation” in relation not only to the professional and social standards in the journalism, but also to the influence that technology and social environment have on the contemporary virtual man.

Abstract (sommario):
The article analyzes some theoretical and practical aspects of creativity. The author shares his opinion that the concept of creativity belongs to the fundamental concepts of philosophy, psychology, literature, art, pedagogy. Creativity is one of the important concepts of the theory of journalism. The author does not agree with the extended definition of creativity. He believes that journalistic activity becomes creativity when it is free and associated with the creation and establishment of new national and universal values, with the highest intensity of intellectual and moral strength of the journalist, when journalism is a manifestation of civic position, when this activity combines professional skills and perfect literary form. The author also believes that literary skill and the skill of a journalist are not identical concepts, because literary skill is a component of journalistic skill.

Abstract (sommario):
The article deals with the problem of the meaningfulness (essence) of the worldview journalism in the context of the argumentative resources of the work of influentive authors, for which the missionary role of the word is decisive. The search for meaning has been debated for centuries by orators, philosophers, psychologists, writers, sociologists, historians, journalists, and so on. In addition to other factors, a combination of the principles of worldview journalism and conceptual humanitarianism gives effective results. The author explores the acute problem of the effectiveness of a journalistic text through the prism of knowing the truth, meaning, since this is precisely where the source of wisdom is found; we are talking about spirituality, culture, historical memory. As influental authors proved with their arguments, the collection of facts is not enough, it is important to find the meaning of the existence of the individual, communities, and humanity. A number of examples show how the speakers of worldview journalism use all texts, not only from the archives: we are talking about poetry, art, in general, about literature, which revealed the most truth. Figuratively speaking, it is not only about the world of borders, it is important to consider horizons. Turning information into a commodity, focusing on “seasonal” interest based on the materialism of facts, or the inadequacy of many concepts and categories, the faking of media, relativity, obscurity of texts, anti-culture, in other words, the revolution of nihilism inevitably relativizes the very essence of journalism. If creative life is a manifestation of the freedom of the spirit, based on authentic truth, then we should strive to achieve the “extension of vision”, to master combinatorial (combinative) thinking. The ability to think in this way differs from ordinary logic in which the main universal thing remains in the center of attention, and the personality is not lost in individual details. Consequently, we can build a genealogy of ordered things and concepts, feel their inner relationship. Key words: meaning, worldview, journalism, argument, influence, moral principles, creativity.

Rudyk, Myroslava. BLOGGING PLATFORMS AS ARENAS FOR THE MEDIA ACTIVITIES OF CITIZEN JOURNALISTS. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, marzo 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2024.54-55.12164.

Abstract (sommario):
The article is dedicated to the investigation of blogging platforms as information and communication arenas during wartime. It analyzes the media activities of citizen journalists as a crucial component of the overall information landscape in Ukraine, outlining the peculiarities of their work, the specifics of information dissemination, and the prospects for the development of citizen journalism as a whole. The advantages and disadvantages of citizen journalism are highlighted. Journalism is one of the most dynamic spheres of our existence, and the information space in Ukraine has undergone significant changes since the full-scale war. The development of technological tools always transforms journalism, elevating it to new levels of possibilities. The use of modern blogging platforms, widely accessible not only to professional journalists but also to activists, has contributed to powerful changes in the information sector. Citizen journalism during the Russo-Ukrainian war has taken on entirely different dimensions than before, prompting new reflections on the role of citizen journalists. This expands the scope of the researched issue, from ethical considerations and adherence to journalistic standards to understanding the safety of information activities for both journalists and humanity as a whole. Not every blogger can be called a citizen journalist. The crucial characteristic of citizen journalism, as opposed to mere blogging, is self-awareness, active social action, dedication to an idea, drawing attention to a problem, lobbying for public interests, and serving the function of public control. In the article were examined the activities of citizen journalists, who meet professional standards and exemplify citizen journalism. These include Ihor Lachenkov, Serhiy Sternenko, and Kostyantyn Liberov. Their blogging platforms and social networks were analysed, their content characterised, and posting frequency assessed. The activities of citizen journalists become most in-demand when media representatives cannot capture an event promptly at a particular moment. Citizen journalists find it easier to disseminate information through blogging platforms and social media, especially considering the tremendous trust these platforms enjoy. Survey results illustrate the colossal trust in these platforms. When asked, «What mass media tools did citizens use to get news in 2022?» the responses were as follows: 1. Social networks – 74%, 2. News websites – 42%, 3. Television – 36%, Radio – 11%, Print media – 3%. We observe a trend in the Ukrainian information space where some bloggers position themselves as citizen journalists, even though they previously did not have such a pronounced civic position. This trend became particularly evident at the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine when influencers started using their blogs to inform their audience about the events in Ukraine, mobilizing them for active volunteer actions and resisting enemy challenges. Keywords: citizen journalism, information dissemination, blogging platforms, war.

This book can be useful for both students and practicing journalists or anyone interested in the history of the Ukrainian diaspora, Ukrainian journalism and Ukrainian culture. The author dedicated his work to Stepan Yarmus from Winnipeg, Canada – archpriest, journalist, editor, professor. As the epigraph to the book were taken the words of Ivan Bagryany: «Our press, born under the sword of Damocles of repatriation», not only survived and survived to this day, but also showed a brilliant ability to grow and develop. It was shown that beggars that had come to the West without money at heart can and know how to act so organized. It was also an example of how a modern «enbolshevist» and «denationalized» by the occupier man person is capable of a combined mass action».

Yatsymirska, Mariya. SOCIAL EXPRESSION IN MULTIMEDIA TEXTS. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, febbraio 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.49.11072.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
The article investigates functional techniques of extralinguistic expression in multimedia texts; the effectiveness of figurative expressions as a reaction to modern events in Ukraine and their influence on the formation of public opinion is shown. Publications of journalists, broadcasts of media resonators, experts, public figures, politicians, readers are analyzed. The language of the media plays a key role in shaping the worldview of the young political elite in the first place. The essence of each statement is a focused thought that reacts to events in the world or in one’s own country. The most popular platform for mass information and social interaction is, first of all, network journalism, which is characterized by mobility and unlimited time and space. Authors have complete freedom to express their views in direct language, including their own word formation. Phonetic, lexical, phraseological and stylistic means of speech create expression of the text. A figurative word, a good aphorism or proverb, a paraphrased expression, etc. enhance the effectiveness of a multimedia text. This is especially important for headlines that simultaneously inform and influence the views of millions of readers. Given the wide range of issues raised by the Internet as a medium, research in this area is interdisciplinary. The science of information, combining language and social communication, is at the forefront of global interactions. The Internet is an effective source of knowledge and a forum for free thought. Nonlinear texts (hypertexts) – «branching texts or texts that perform actions on request», multimedia texts change the principles of information collection, storage and dissemination, involving billions of readers in the discussion of global issues. Mastering the word is not an easy task if the author of the publication is not well-read, is not deep in the topic, does not know the psychology of the audience for which he writes. Therefore, the study of media broadcasting is an important component of the professional training of future journalists. The functions of the language of the media require the authors to make the right statements and convincing arguments in the text. Journalism education is not only knowledge of imperative and dispositive norms, but also apodictic ones. In practice, this means that there are rules in media creativity that are based on logical necessity. Apodicticity is the first sign of impressive language on the platform of print or electronic media. Social expression is a combination of creative abilities and linguistic competencies that a journalist realizes in his activity. Creative self-expression is realized in a set of many important factors in the media: the choice of topic, convincing arguments, logical presentation of ideas and deep philological education. Linguistic art, in contrast to painting, music, sculpture, accumulates all visual, auditory, tactile and empathic sensations in a universal sign – the word. The choice of the word for the reproduction of sensory and semantic meanings, its competent use in the appropriate context distinguishes the journalist-intellectual from other participants in forums, round tables, analytical or entertainment programs. Expressive speech in the media is a product of the intellect (ability to think) of all those who write on socio-political or economic topics. In the same plane with him – intelligence (awareness, prudence), the first sign of which (according to Ivan Ogienko) is a good knowledge of the language. Intellectual language is an important means of organizing a journalistic text. It, on the one hand, logically conveys the author’s thoughts, and on the other – encourages the reader to reflect and comprehend what is read. The richness of language is accumulated through continuous self-education and interesting communication. Studies of social expression as an important factor influencing the formation of public consciousness should open up new facets of rational and emotional media broadcasting; to trace physical and psychological reactions to communicative mimicry in the media. Speech mimicry as one of the methods of disguise is increasingly becoming a dangerous factor in manipulating the media. Mimicry is an unprincipled adaptation to the surrounding social conditions; one of the most famous examples of an animal characterized by mimicry (change of protective color and shape) is a chameleon. In a figurative sense, chameleons are called adaptive journalists. Observations show that mimicry in politics is to some extent a kind of game that, like every game, is always conditional and artificial.

Abstract (sommario):
The article is dedicated to theoretical understanding of the problem of development and protection of the rights of foreign and domestic journalists. The modern reality of journalistic activity, including the full scale russian aggression, was highlighted. The activities of foreign journalists that come to Ukraine to shoot and write materials to inform their audience with the current situation were carefully studied and analyzed. But on the other hand, the presence of different foreign press agencies in Ukraine can cause harm to national security, because information provided by foreign journalists can be used by hostiles in their criminal deeds. The harsh situation with journalists’ rights is proved by reports about targeting press-labelled cars, assassinations and burglarizing of journalists on annexed territory. War in Ukraine became the first precedent when occupational army prevent press associations to shoot and report crimes they commit there. Materials and photos provided by Ukrainian and foreign journalists do not only give emotional and information pictures to readers and the public, but also are used in courts for persecution. Because of systematic violation of journalists’ rights by russian forces, they demand an eager change of European and national law to punish criminals and increase responsibility for their crimes. Today demand on information is high. One can say that the most precious thing and one of the most valuable goods is information. The main priority today is the rights of journalists their safety Problematic issues of journalistic activity in today’s conditions are highlighted as destabilizing factors in the protection of journalists’ rights. Ways to solve the outlined problematic issues are provided. Key words: journalism, journalist, law, ensuring rights, rights and freedoms, war, invasion, journalistic activity.

Abstract (sommario):
The subject of the study is the cooperation of S. Efremov with Western Ukrainian periodicals as a page in the history of Ukrainian journalism which covers the relationship of journalists and scientists of Eastern and Western Ukraine at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. Research methods (biographical, historical, comparative, axiological, statistical, discursive) develop the comprehensive disclosure of the article. As a result of scientific research, the origins of Ukrainocentrism in the personality of S. Efremov were clarified; his person as a public figure, journalist, publisher, literary critic is multifaceted; taking into account the specifics of the memoir genre and with the involvement of the historical context, the turning points in the destiny of the author of memoirs are interpreted, revealing cooperation with Western Ukrainian magazines and newspapers. The publications ‘Zoria’, ‘Narod’, ‘Pravda’, ‘Bukovyna’, ‘Dzvinok’, are secretly got into sub-Russian Ukraine, became for S. Efremov a spiritual basis in understanding the specifics of the national (Ukrainian) mass media, ideas of education in culture of Ukraine at the end of XIX century, its territorial integrity, and state independence. Memoirs of S. Efremov on cooperation with the iconic Galician journals ‘Notes of the Scientific Society after the name Shevchenko’ and ‘Literary-Scientific Bulletin’, testify to an important stage in the formation of the author’s worldview, the expansion of the genre boundaries of his journalism, active development as a literary critic. S. Yefremov collaborated most fruitfully and for a long time with the Literary-Scientific Bulletin, and he was impressed by the democratic position of this publication. The author’s comments reveal a long-running controversy over the publication of a review of the new edition of Kobzar and thematically related discussions around his other literary criticism, in which the talent of the demanding critic was forged. S. Efremov steadfastly defended the main principles of literary criticism: objectivity and freedom of author’s thought. The names of the allies of the Ukrainian idea L. Skochkovskyi, O. Lototskyi, O. Konyskyi, P. Zhytskyi, M. Hrushevskyi in S. Efremov’s memoirs unfold in multifaceted portrait descriptions and function as historical and cultural facts that document the pages of the author’s biography, record his activities in space and time. The results of the study give grounds to characterize S. Efremov as the first professional Ukrainian-speaking journalist.

Abstract (sommario):
For the first time in Ukrainian journalism, the issue of totalitarian journalism has been outlined. The basis of the analysis is the archival materials of the Chernivtsi regional newspaper «Soviet Bukovyna» founded in 1940, which was re-registered in 1991 with the name «Bukovyna». The specifics of the formation of the assets of «pen workers» during the Soviet era are clarified; the qualitative composition of the staff, the reasons for their turnover and the typical types of journalists of that time were analyzed; information about the trials and investigations of journalists who were widely used against them in accordance with the legislation of 1940 wasintroduced into scientific circulation; biographical portraits of individuals are given. The personnel policy of the Bolshevik Party in the western Ukrainian territories annexed on the eve of World War II had its own specifics. The editors-in-chief of the newly formed newspapers were usually verified personnel sent from the eastern regions. They were selected primarily for the most important ideological qualities – loyalty to the cause of the Bolshevik Party, the ability to pursue its policy in the entrusted case. Literary abilities, accurate knowledge of the specifics of the journalistic craft, practical experience in this field were desirable, but not decisive. With the enactment of a strict law in 1940 on criminal liability for breach of labor discipline, delays in work without good reason, the cases of a number of journalists were transferred to the district courts at the place of work. In the first postwar years, the Central Committee of the party strongly encouraged local party committees to issue to functionaries of the ideological front so-called party vouchers for work in newspaper editorial offices. Keywords: journalism of the totalitarian era, newspaper «Soviet Bukovyna», cadres of journalism, types of Soviet journalists, trials and investigations against journalists, journalistic destinies.
