Abstract (sommario):
In the current paper, a semi-analytical solution is obtained for the problem of the peristaltic motion of Jeffrey nanofluid with heat transfer inside an asymmetric channel. The influences of variable viscosity, thermal conductivity, Hall currents, Joule heat and viscous dissipation are taken into consideration. The problem is modulated mathematically by a system of non-linear partial deferential equations which describe the fluid velocity, temperature and nanoparticles concentration distributions. This system is simplified by considering long wavelength of the peristaltic wave and low Reynolds number. It is solved by using the multi-step deferential transform method to obtain the velocity, temperature and nanoparticles concentration distributions, pressure rise and pressure gradient. These solutions are obtained as functions of the physical parameters of the problem. Tables and figures are discussed to see the effects of these parameters. It is found that the thermal conductivity parameter causes an increase in the pressure gradient, meanwhile it reduces the pressure rise. Furthermore, it is noticed that the behavior of Brownian and thermophoresis parameters on nanoparticles concentration field are quite reverse.

Abstract (sommario):
The dynamics of non-Newtonian Jeffrey fluid in conjunction with a spinning disk surface can be problematic in heating systems, polymer technology, microelectronics, advanced technology, and substantive disciplines. Therefore, the significance of the Hall current and Coriolis forces in terms of the dynamics of Jeffrey fluid flowing across a gyrating disk subject to non-Fourier heat flux was investigated in this study. A temperature-related heat source (TRHS) and exponential-related heat source (ERHS) were incorporated into the model to improve the thermal characteristics. Thermal radiation and multiple slip effects were employed in the flow system. The connected non-linear PDEs governing the transport were transmuted into non-linear ODEs and solved using the Runge–Kutta shooting technique (RKST). The results of the RKST were substantiated in previous studies and found to have adequate reliability. The numerical values of the coefficient of friction and the Nusselt number were simulated. The non-Fourier heat flux was found to have a higher rate of heat transfer (HTR) than with traditional Fourier heat flux. Furthermore, both TRHS and ERHS phenomena support the progression of HTR. The swelling effects of the Hall current influence the velocities, whilst the temperature of the Jeffrey fluid shows the opposite tendency. Furthermore, asymptotic variances were detected for larger Hall parameter values.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to theoretically study the problem of the peristaltic flow of Jeffrey fluid in a non-uniform rectangular duct under the effects of Hall and ion slip. An incompressible and magnetohydrodynamics fluid is also taken into account. The governing equations are modelled under the constraints of low Reynolds number and long wave length. Recent development in biomedical engineering has enabled the use of the periastic flow in modern drug delivery systems with great utility. Design/methodology/approach – Numerical integration is used to analyse the novel features of volumetric flow rate, average volume flow rate, instantaneous flux and the pressure gradient. The impact of physical parameters is depicted with the help of graphs. The trapping phenomenon is presented through stream lines. Findings – The results of Newtonian fluid model can be obtained by taking out the effects of Jeffrey parameter from this model. No-slip case is a special case of the present work. The results obtained for the flow of Jeffrey fluid reveal many interesting behaviours that warrant further study on the non-Newtonian fluid phenomena, especially the shear-thinning phenomena. Shear-thinning reduces the wall shear stress. Originality/value – The results of this paper are new and original.

Abstract (sommario):
Little Jeffrey places one block on top of two others as he busily constructs an elaborate block city. Although he is only two-and-one-half years old. Jeffrey understands that he has just made a “bigger” building by adding one block to two others. He understands this idea even though he does not yet know how to use the terms one. two, and three. But, by acting on his environment. Jeffrey is encountering the basic ideas that will gradually evolve into more sophisticated mathematics concepts. Only after repeated experiences of this type can Jeffrey develop the logical thinking skills necessary to express in words what has happened to his block structure.

Abstract (sommario):
In this study of the temporal stability of Jeffery–Hamel flow, the critical Reynolds number based on the volume flux, Rc, and that based on the axial velocity, Rec, are computed. It is found that both critical Reynolds numbers decrease very rapidly when the half-angle of the channel, α, increases, such that the quantity αRc remains very nearly constant and αRecis a nearly linear function of α. For a short channel there can be more than one value of the critical Reynolds number. A fully nonlinear analysis, for Re close to the critical value, indicates that the loss of stability is supercritical. The resulting asymmetric oscillatory solutions show staggered arrays of vortices positioned along the channel.

Abstract (sommario):
Paul Maloney's study of Victorian and Edwardian Glasgow's entertainment is part of the series Studies in Popular Culture, under the general editorship of Jeffrey Richards, and it benefits from the protocols of its social-history methodology. His approach to the halls has a welcome freedom from the constraints that dog theatre scholars whose disciplines have equipped them with subliminally insistent literary and musical criteria. Maloney is able to acknowledge the stereotypical, misogynistic, jingoist materials used by music-hall performers but still understand them as functional expressions of working-class attitudes that are counterhegemonic. In his argument, manner and style are read as signifiers before words, articulated positions, and character types. He asserts of Scottish music hall that “[a]s a popular entertainment format it did not articulate its social agenda but embodied it in its functioning and culture” (50). This is an important insight, one that not only circumvents the impasse presented to textual analysis by the bland and unrevealing songs and other materials that survive on the page, but also chimes with the latest research in the history of performance, which is beginning to emphasize the historicism of the embodied. We move toward the possibility of historical and theatrical methodologies jumping together, independently of literary judgments, and producing previously unavailable nuance and fresh insight.

Abstract (sommario):
This article deals with three-dimensional non-Newtonian Jeffrey fluid in rotating frame in the presence of magnetic field. The flow is studied in the application of Hall current, where the flow is assumed in steady states. The upper plate is considered fixed, and the lower is kept stretched. The fundamental equations are transformed into a set of ordinary differential equations (ODEs). A homotopy technique is practiced for a solution. The variation in the skin friction and its effects on the velocity fields have been examined numerically. The effects of physical parameters are discussed in various plots.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractWe present a complete analytical solution for the plane elasticity problem of a concentrated force acting on a half-space weakened by a circular hole. The solution is based on the algorithm proposed by G.B. Jeffery in 1920 for elasticity problems, using bipolar coordinates to characterize the geometry. We found the biharmonic stress function describing stresses and strains in the half-space and the associated biharmonic function that allows determining the displacement field. Both functions are given in the form of Fourier series with quite compact coefficients. Particular attention is paid to the displacements at the plane boundary of the half-space. It is discussed how these displacements can be used in an inverse procedure for the identification of a circular hole diameter and position.

Abstract (sommario):
As examples such as the Monty Hall puzzle show, applying conditioning to update a probability distribution on a ``naive space'', which does not take into account the protocol used, can often lead to counterintuitive results. Here we examine why. A criterion known as CAR (``coarsening at random'') in the statistical literature characterizes when ``naive'' conditioning in a naive space works. We show that the CAR condition holds rather infrequently, and we provide a procedural characterization of it, by giving a randomized algorithm that generates all and only distributions for which CAR holds. This substantially extends previous characterizations of CAR. We also consider more generalized notions of update such as Jeffrey conditioning and minimizing relative entropy (MRE). We give a generalization of the CAR condition that characterizes when Jeffrey conditioning leads to appropriate answers, and show that there exist some very simple settings in which MRE essentially never gives the right results. This generalizes and interconnects previous results obtained in the literature on CAR and MRE.

Abstract (sommario):
This study investigates the influence of Hall current diffusion, thermo-activation energy, and other parameters on the flow characteristics of an electrically conducting Jeffrey nanofluid. The Jeffrey nanofluid flow occurs across a continually expanding surface, and additional factors like thermal radiation, heat generation/absorption, and inclined plates are included in the analysis. A vertically installed transverse magnetic field is assumed to have a modest Reynolds number. The controlling partial differential equations are transformed into nonlinear ordinary differential equations using appropriate similarity transformations. These equations are then numerically solved using the Matlab bvp4c module. This study aims to analyze the impact of many factors, including the Hall current factor, the thermal radiation factor, the heat source/sink factor, the Brownian motion factor, the thermophoresis parameter, and the magnetization, on the velocity, concentration, and temperature. To do this, graphical representations will be used as a means of visualizing and discussing the impacts, as mentioned earlier. To get a deeper understanding of the internal dynamics of the emerging parameters, a numerical computation is conducted to determine the local Nusselt number, Sherwood number, and skin friction coefficient along the x and z axes. Research findings have shown that the flow velocity exhibits a decreasing trend as the linear and nonlinear thermal radiation components rise. Furthermore, augmenting the values of the Brownian motion parameter will lead to a reduction in the concentration profile of the nanoparticle.

Abstract (sommario):
This research article deals with the nonlinear thermally radiated influences on non-Newtonian nanofluid considering Jeffrey fluid in a rotating system. The governing equations of the nanofluid have been transformed to a set of differential nonlinear equations, using suitable similarity variables. The Homotopy Analysis Method (HAM) and Runge–Kutta Method of order 4 (RK Method of order 4) are used for the solution of the modeled problem. The variation of the skin friction, Nusselt number, Sherwood number, and their impacts on the velocity distribution, temperature distribution, and concentration distribution have been examined. The influence of the Hall effect, rotation, Brownian motion, porosity, and thermophoresis analysis are also investigated. Moreover, for comprehension of the physical presentation of the embedded parameters, Deborah number β , viscosity parameter R , rotation parameter Kr , Brownian motion parameter Nb , porosity parameter γ , magnetic parameter M , Prandtl number Pr , thermophoretic parameter Nt , and Schmidt number Sc have been plotted and deliberated graphically. For large values of Brownian parameter, the kinetic energy increases, which in turn increases the temperature distribution, while the thermal boundary layer thickness decreases by increasing the radiation parameter, and the Hall parameter increases the motion of the fluid in horizontal direction. Also, the mass flux has been observed as a decreasing function at the lower stretching plate.

Dying for a Paycheck: How Modern Management Harms Employee Health and Company Performance – and What We Can Do About It. Jeffrey Pfeffer. New York, New York: Harper Business, 2018, 272 pp., ISBN 13: 978-0062800923 Why isn’t there a sustainability plan for humans in their workplace? Almost every serious multinational company has a sustainability policy concerning the environmental pollution. Companies are obliged to make EIR (Environmental Impact Reports). However, when it comes to the human resources, no policies are set into place to protect the physical and mental wellbeing of their employees. If there are attempts made to ban toxic products and processes, why isn`t there a protection against toxic management systems? This is one of the challenging questions Jeffrey Pfeffer presents in his latest book “Dying for the paycheck”. No, there is no error, the title indeed is “Dying for the paycheck”. Pfeffer explains his provocative title in an interview with Dan Schawbel: “Two colleagues and I estimated that about one-half of the 120,000 excess deaths from workplace exposures annually was preventable” (retrieved from Dan Schawbel personal branding blog: http://www.personalbrandingblog.com/jeffrey-pfeffer-employers-care-health-employees/). These numbers are being put into perspective by comparison to 27 European countries and Pfeffer’s conclusion is that by estimate, 60,000, or half the death, and about 63 billion, or one-third of the excess costs, might be preventable (Pfeffer, chapter 2, page 6).

Abstract In this article, heat transfer with nonlinear thermal radiation on sinusoidal motion of magnetic solid particles in a dust Jeffrey fluid has been studied. The effects of Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) and hall current are also taken under consideration. The governing equation of motion and energy equation are modelled with help of Ohms law for fluid and dust phases. The solutions of the resulting ordinary coupled partial differential equations are solved analytically. The impact of all the physical parameters of interest such as Hartmann number, slip parameter, Hall parameter, radiation parameter, Prandtl number, Eckert number and particle volume fraction are demonstrated mathematically and graphically. Trapping mechanism is also discussed in detail by drawing contour lines. The present analysis affirms many interesting behaviours, which permit further study on solid particles motion with heat and mass transfer.

The fractional calculus approach has been taken into account in the Darcys law and the constitutive relationship of fluid model. Based on a modified Darcys law for a viscoelastic fluid, Stokes first problem is considered for a generalized Jeffreys fluid in a porous half space. By using the Fourier sine transform and the Laplace transform, two forms of exact solutions of Stokes first problem for a generalized Jeffreys fluid in the porous half space are obtained in term of generalized Mittag-Leffler function, and one of them is presented as the sum of the similar Newtonian solution and the corresponding non-Newtonian contributions. As the limiting cases, solutions of the Stokes first problem for the generalized second fluid, the fractional Maxwell fluid and the Newtonian fluid in the porous half space are also obtained.

This paper, using Jeffrey C. Symbolic representation, trauma narratives, and the institutionalization of trauma were crucial in this process.

Abstract (sommario):
This year’s awardees of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine – Michael Rosbash, Michael W. Young and Jeffrey C. Hall discovered genes responsible for controlling the biological clock. Their studies allowed to form the basic mechanism of the Transcription– Transla- tion Feedback Loop, known as TTFL. The transcription of the PERIOD gene and its partner <I>TIM</I> is inhibited by proteins encoded by them which are generated oscillatorily and autonomously. The biological clock controls many physiological processes by generating circadian oscillations in harmony with day and night patterns. The daily rhythm regulates sleep, eating meals, hormone release, blood pressure and body temperature.

Abstract (sommario):
The article provides an analysis of the work of English scientists who tell about the history of Kazakhstan in the Soviet period of the second half of the XX-early XXI centuries, the history of the local population, econ-omy, culture, traditions, religious beliefs. We consider historiography as a special historical discipline that studies the history of the accumulation of historical knowledge, the development of historical thought and re-search methodology, the history of the creation of historical works and biographies of scientists, the history of scientific institutions, the organization of historical education and the spread of historical knowledge. The main purpose of writing the article was to introduce researchers to the scientific environment, the modern community of readers. The article conducted a scientific analysis of the works of European and English re-searchers who wrote about the culture, traditions, and religious beliefs of Kazakhs in the period from the XXcentury to the beginning of the XXI century. According to the theory and methodology of scientific re-search, the methods of historicism, objectivity, historical comparative analysis and historical regularity were mainly used. In the post-war years, Anglo-American Sovietology proved its right to take a worthy place in World historiography, and was in demand not only in Western countries, but also in the countries of the for-mer Soviet Union. The most accurate and deep analysis was distinguished by the works of Jeffrey Wheeler, Walter Kolartz, Shirin Akiner, Sevket Akıldız, Richard Carlson, Violet Connolli, Sarah Cameron, Harun Yilmaz, Rico Isaacs. At the beginning of writing the article, the books and articles of these researchers of the Soviet history, including Kazakhstan, were taken as a basis

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract We document persistent superior trading performance among a subset of individual investors. Investors classified in the top performance decile in the first half of our sample subsequently earn risk-adjusted returns of about 6% per year. These returns are not confined to stocks in which the investors are likely to have inside information, nor are they driven by illiquid stocks. Our results suggest that skilled individual investors exploit market inefficiencies (or perhaps conditional risk premiums) to earn abnormal profits, above and beyond any profits available from well-known strategies based on size, value, momentum, or earnings announcements. Abstract (sommario):
This article explores the proliferation of nonfiction narratives which warn of an impending global pandemic of African origin. Through a reading of four texts — Richard Preston's The Hot Zone, Laurie Garrett's The Coming Plague, Richard Kaplan's The Ends of the Earth, and Jeffrey Goldberg's ‘Our Africa Problem’ — the author argues that such pandemic narratives reflect unease about the United States' current and future role in Africa or other non-Western places, after a half-century of largely unsuccessful ‘development’. Second, plague tales reflect anxieties about environmental devastation in Africa and elsewhere. The article concludes that the most frightening aspect of these contemporary ‘plague tales' is the solutions they suggest to the ‘problem’ of a coming plague.

Abstract (sommario):
English musicians, collectors and patrons are known to have been interested in Italian music from the early years of the sixteenth century. Italian musicians appear in the lists of Henry VIII's musicians, and from then onwards Italian music was frequently imported and copied into English manuscripts. The prestige and circulation of the Italian madrigal and its effect on the English madrigalists in Elizabeth I's reign have been thoroughly examined; but it is perhaps not fully realized that this interest in Italian music continued unabated into the seventeenth century, and that the latest Monteverdian styles were circulating in England while they were still brand-new in Italy. George Jeffreys’ manuscript copies of Italian music offer a unique example of the dissemination of Italian music in England in the first half of the seventeenth century; unique because we know precisely which printed sources Jeffreys used, who they belonged to, and how and when they came to be in the country. The career of George Jeffreys (c. 1610–85) and his relationship with his patron, Sir Christopher Hatton (1605–70), has been fully described in David Pinto's article ‘The Music of the Hattons’ (this journal, above), and I shall therefore avoid any duplication of information.

Abstract (sommario):
Half a century after the end of the Second World War and the Labour Party landslide election in the summer of l945, scholarly interest in Winston Churchill's wartime leadership and British domestic politics during the war has never been greater than it is today. These two books under review offer students and teachers alike different approaches to a better understanding of Great Britain in the twentieth century-the effects of two world wars, the postwar social welfare legislation, diminished great power status, and the climax and decline of the British empire.

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
An analytical solution for two dimensional unsteady MHD free convective double diffusive heat and mass transfer rotating flow of viscous incompressible optically thin non Newtonian fluid (jeffrey fluid) past a semi-infinite porous plate in the presence of generation of heat absorption with hall current, radiation absorption and Dufour effects are presented in this paper. Lorentz force is applied perpendicular direction to the plate with a first-order chemical reaction. The governing PDEs transformed into ODEs by applying the perturbation technique. The effects of various physical parameters like Hall current, heat absorption, radiation parameter, radiation absorption parameter, Grashof number, modified Grashof number, Dufour effect, magnetic field parameter, inclined angle, chemical reaction parameter, etc., are studied with graphically. Temperature profile is increased by raising the values of Dufour effect, radiation absorption parameter and reverse effect of the heat absorption parameter and also concentration profile distribution is downfall by raising the values of Schmited number, chemical reaction parameter. Another significant finding of the current study is that the numerical data are displayed with the use of Matlab programmes to investigate the outcomes of the skin friction solution. the rate of heat and mass transfer at the wall rising under the influence of Dufour effect. Tables, graphs, and reports can be used to display the impact of all pertinent parameters.

Abstract (sommario):
Lauren Groff's Fates and Furies thoroughly unravels its own ‘marriage plot’. Narrating the romance of the golden Lancelot (‘Lotto’) and the mysterious Mathilde from each protagonist's perspective in turn, Groff's novel exposes countless cracks in the decades-long relationship between a pair of twenty-first-century college sweethearts. The second half of the novel is particularly haunted by a sadomasochistic and dubiously consensual relationship between Mathilde and a wealthy older man upon whom she has become financially dependent, a subplot that includes vivid and erotic descriptions of sexual humiliation and subjugation. Groff is certainly not the only modern author to explicitly and self-consciously interrogate the terms of the romantic novel as such: Jeffrey Eugenides’ The Marriage Plot announces its generic play in its title.

Abstract (sommario):
Since 1901, the Nobel Prize has been awarded to scientists who have made the most important discoveries for the benefit of humanity. The 2017 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded jointly to Jeffrey C. Hall, Michael Rosbash and Michael W. Young “for their discoveries of molecular mechanisms controlling the circadian rhythm.” It may be surprising to learn that those three scientists dedicated their entire careers to research on the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster. However, as their studies progressed, it became increasingly clear that the mechanism of the biological clock that they discovered in Drosophila is very similar to a timekeeping mechanism present in mammals, including humans. Through interdisciplinary work between scientists performing basic research on model organisms and medical doctors, we have learned over time that daily rhythms support human health while disruption of these rhythms is associated with a range of pathological disorders such as cardiovascular problems, metabolic, neurological, and many other diseases. This short review highlights critical milestones on the way to understanding biological clocks, focusing on the roles played by the three Nobel Prize winners.

Abstract (sommario):
The average public school building was built around 1968 — more than 50 years ago — and the National Center for Education Statistics reports that half of all public schools in the United States need at least one major facility repair. Mary Filardo, Jeffrey Vincent, and Kevin Sullivan explain how poorly maintained school buildings have a negative effect on both student and teacher performance and health. Because local districts are responsible for funding their own building maintenance and upgrades, poor communities lack the resources to keep facilities in adequate shape, much less to modernize them, and needed repairs may be made using the same operating funds used to pay teachers and purchase instructional materials. The authors express hope that interest in infrastructure improvements at the federal level will enable schools to receive the funding they need.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Jeffrey T. Nealon proposes that “twenty-first-century American biopolitical subjectivity” has as its “overarching logic” an arrangement in which being for something signifies a content-less affirmation: “I’m not like everyone else.” For Nealon, this “excorporative” logic grows out of, coincides with, and exhausts rock music’s discourses of authenticity from the second half of the twentieth century. Today, an endlessly interconnected network emerges in which old forms of cultural “individualism” become ever-interchangeable modes of “hip commodity consumption,” indexing a neoliberal regime that renders “everybody” into “prosumers” (producers-consumers). This review-essay considers the extent and limits of this proposal, querying Nealon’s understanding of listening and aurality and indicating the challenges presented by bypassing the mesopolitical in an effort to outline the macropolitics of consumption and the micropolitics of individuality.
