Abstract (sommario):
After the Second World War, the militarist, corporatist system of the imperial Japan had collapsed. Since then, Japan adopted a democratic system centered around the Liberal Democratic Party. This paper analyzed the political situation of Japan after the Second World War by exemplifying and investigating Japans political Stagnation. By analyzing the political situation of Japan, this research reveals the significance of political reformation and progression. This study selected and analyzed 15 different sources including books, articles and videos Economically, post-war Japan had a heavy reliance on the United States since the Korean War. Although the bubble economy of Japan through the 1970s provided the Japanese population with political confidence to an extent, The collapse of the bubble economy stopped Japans economic growth. Since then, Japan had entered the lost thirty years. In addition to the reasons aforementioned, political bureaucratization, lack of actual changes and powerful implicit order caused changing the status quo harder. These are the main factors working behind Japans political stagnation.

Abstract (sommario):
ABSTRACTThere has been little consensus on Japans welfare regime since Esping-Andersens [1990. The Three Worlds of Welfare Capitalism. Cambridge: Polity Press] unclear categorisation of Japan as his only non-Western welfare state. This article is the first attempt to analyse academic research published in both English and Japanese. It presents a review of 40 collected studies (including 15 Western, 6 Asian and 19 Japanese articles), reached a wide variety of conclusions, defining Japan as eight different types: We point out that while the majority of Western studies tend to run statistical models including Japan among otherwise Western welfare states with little theoretical justification, Japanese scholars tend to focus on Japan as a single case. The two very different approaches may have something to learn from each other, as in thesis antithesis synthesis. Now that we are aware of very different approaches to and conclusions about Japans welfare regime, the topic appears ripe for greater co-operation between scholars.

Abstract (sommario):
Japanese colonial migration in China is a significant component of Japans colonial movements in China between 1931 to 1945. Previous research shows that it may influence the post-war commercial cooperation between two countries This research is intended to explore the long-term effect of Japans colonial migration on Sino-Japan trade in different Chinese regions, thus partially filling the academic vacuum in related fields and possibly providing new ideas for macro strategies design. Methods of data analysis and graphing are implemented in the analysis process. The findings are Japans colonial migration mainly promotes Sino-Japan trade and the effect of promotion is positively correlated with migration scale. Export markets and regions less open to the world market are influenced by this effect most. However, in general, the influence of migration is limited because the major factors of trade are cost, profit and demand. In some regions, the violence of the migration leads to historic hatred, negatively impacting Sino-Japan trade.

Abstract (sommario):
After World War II, the bilateral relations between Japan and America has undergone ups and downs. In the early post-war period, the relationship between these two countries was very tense and unfriendly due to the hostile relation. However, after the policies of Japan and America changed when America started occupying and managing Japan, their relationship improved. Japan ushered in an economic miracle of 50 years after the war, one of the most essential reasons for it is the support of America. Also, the growth of the economy has brought Japan more opportunities to cooperate and negotiate with America, and the relationship between the two countries has shifted from unilateral support to competition through cooperation. This paper is mainly focusing on the Impact of Japan's Economy on Japan-US Bilateral Relations. In order to find out the process and changes of the Japan-US Bilateral Relations, this paper analyzed some references about this topic and found out that the economy has deeply influenced the relations between these two countries and Japan's economic miracle and stagnation made America restart locating the diplomatic relationship with Japan. This paper could help scholars have a better understanding of the influences of Japans economy on US-Japan Bilateral Relations.

Abstract (sommario):
The article analyses Japanese approach towards peacekeeping and issues associated with Japans participation in the peacekeeping operations (PKOs). It focuses on factors which influence shaping and transformation of Japans approach towards this sphere of UN activity. For the first time, Japan sent its Self-defense forces to participate in the PKO in the early 1990s and since then peacemaking has become one of the symbols of Japan's contribution to international security. Despite the significance of cooperation with the UN that the Japanese government has underlined, the indicators that characterize Japan's participation in peacekeeping remain at a low level. In the article, the author explores the causes of this phenomenon and identifies patterns that characterize the models of Japanese participation in PKO. Using the historical method and content analysis of official documents and speeches by Japans representatives the author explores the hypothesis that currently, from the point of view of the Japanese government, the issue of participation in the PKOs is important as a way to adapt the public to the expansion of the sphere of activity of the Self-defense forces, but in practice, the ruling circles seek to avoid the risks associated with the participation of the Japanese military in the PKOs, preferring to shift the focus on peace-building, financial, educational and technological contribution that Japan can make to UN operations. The concept of active pacifism promoted by Abe did not lead to a more extensive participation of the Japanese military in the PKOs. An analysis of current trends in peacekeeping suggests that the participation of Self-defense forces in PKOs will remain at a low level and will be offset by other opportunities for Japan to contribute to international peacekeeping.

Abstract (sommario):
In today's era of globalisation, East Asian popular culture has increasingly become an international craze that has garnered soft power disclosure for China, Japan, and Korea. Among them, Japan was the earliest to wield cultural soft power to gain significant benefits, namely through its anime industry, setting the example for China and Korea. Not only did Japan accumulate huge economic benefits through anime, but the soft power it gained through culture dissemination critically allowed Japan to reshape its national image in the western world and even across Asia,, where Japanese wartime aggression had remained an unsolved political issue over decades. This paper hopes to study the emergence, development and reception of Japanese anime and its impact on Japans international soft power disclosure, serving as a model for the current development of other East Asian popular cultures.

Abstract (sommario):
Japan faced racist issues and it impacts the society. Which is crucial since society play an important role in a country. Therefore are there any efforts coming from the government of Japan and NGOs to solve this problem? Knowing the efforts made by both governments and NGOs to combat racism could help increase accountability, transparency, and public trust in these organizations and the initiatives they undertake. The primary data in this study were obtained from the results of interviews conducted by the authors of the informants, while the secondary data was in the form of documents and journals that were relevant and could support the research. The government does provide facilities such as consulting services for foreigners to report racist acts they experienced. The government and NGOs initiate a campaign in the form of a billboard. It is considered not effective and has little impact. On the other hand, the Japanese government has begun to socialize by giving some advice to companies in Japan to provide a Japanese language learning medium to train foreign workers. Based on the results of the research, most of our informants stated that the efforts made by the Japanese government and NGOs aren’t enough. The Japanese government and NGOs should consider bigger efforts to eliminate racism in their society.

Abstract (sommario):

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
This thesis investigates the relationship between economic ideas and practices in reference to Japanese development experience. To achieve this, it first examines the impact of economic ideas and economists on the Japanese development. Then it examines the characteristics of the Japanese development. Lastly, the study attempts to give an account of the direct impact of Japanese experience. It also tries to elucidate the indirect influence on the Japanese development economics which occurred through its impact on East Asian model. It has three main assertions. Firstly, it argues that Japanese economic thought and economists that were under the influence of heterodox economic schools such as the German Historical School, Marxism and the Schumpeterian and Keynesian schools, played a crucial role in shaping the Japanese development. Secondly, at least partly for this reason, Japanese development which can be considered as a piece-wise continuous accelerated growth phenomena, demonstrated heterodox characteristics. Thirdly, Japanese successful industrialization directly and indirectly, through influencing East Asian development model, deeply affected different economic approaches in development economics such as the developmental state, flying geese model and the Confucian ethic thesis. The broader implication of this thesis is that the economic ideas and economic practices have a circular relationship as Japanese experience has demonstrated.

Abstract (sommario):
This dissertation aims at exploring and analysing the effects of Japan&rsquo
s trust-based relations in the region of East Asia in the post-Cold War period within the framework of its anti-militaristic state identity and outlook. The main research question is based on how the Japanese policy makers constructed the meaning of the post-Cold War period, opening the ways and ideas to solidify the anti-militaristic state identity and posture. In this sense, Japan provides a significant case study for examining ontological security. The main argument of dissertation is based on building up Japan&rsquo
s ontological security structure in the regional context. Since the end of the Second World War, Japan has pursued an anti-militaristic state identity and posture. This attitude has been the guiding principle of Tokyo&rsquo
s foreign and security policy. In this dissertation, for the continuance of anti-militaristic identity successfully in the post-Cold War period, Japanese policy decision-makers have both configured and further sustained the country&rsquo
s trust-based relations with neighbouring countries in the region. This dissertation was analysed under the five main headings except the introduction chapter: (1) The historical background telling the story of anti-militaristic identity and posture of Japan, (2) Japan&rsquo
s emerging human security agenda in the Post-Cold War period, (3) Japan&rsquo
s cooperative initiatives at the regional level by focusing in particular on APEC and ARF. (4) Japan&rsquo
s relations with the significant others for its identity preservation. (5) The conclusions.

Lin, Tzung-De. "Japan fuzzified : the development of fuzzy logic research in Japan". Thesis, University of Edinburgh, 2009. http://hdl.handle.net/1842/24844.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
By employing theoretical resources from sociology of science as well as science and technology studies (STS), and drawing on written sources and interviews, this thesis charts the development of fuzzy logic research in Japan. Overall, the development of fuzzy logic research in Japan is seen as a popularization process, in which three consecutive periods are identified with regards to the ways fuzzy logic reached a growing audience. In the first period, from the late 1960s to the late 1970s, fuzzy logic research was an academic undertaking, with mathematical manipulations the main way of conducting research. The theory of scientific organization is applied to analyze fuzzy logic research in this period, and in particular the koza (departmental chair) system, a feature of the Japanese academic system, is found to play an important role in the proliferation of fuzzy logic. The second period, spanning from the late 1970s to the late 1980s, saw an upsurge of applications of fuzzy logic to control engineering. Technical demonstration was a core activity in this period, and STS work on demonstrations and proofs is utilized to discuss the way in which fuzzy logic drew the attention of a growing audience. Finally, in the third period, spanning from the late 1980s to the early 1990s, fuzzy logic reached the general public by attracting wide coverage in mass media. The role the Japanese transliteration of the word ‘fuzzy’, ‘fajyi’, played in the promotion of fuzzy logic in this period is discussed. The influence of the word ‘aimai’, the indigenous concept that served for a time as the Japanese translation of the word ‘fuzzy’, and the perceived affinity between fuzzy logic and Japanese thought, is analyzed as well.

Although the Japanese government did not persecute European Jewish refugees who came to reside within the borders of its growing empire in the 1930s and early 1940s, Japanese antisemitism increased in fervency during the war years. With government officials, intellectuals, and the media serving as conduits to the Japanese public, the "Jewish enemy" was blamed for a wide range of domestic and international problems. The negative characteristics attributed to Jews served to highlight, by contrast, the positive characteristics with which Japanese identified their own nationality, morality, and humanity. "The Jews" thus assumed the role of the antithetical Western "Other," providing Japanese with a tangible focus for their wrath against the wartime Western enemy. Japanese antisemitism, in short, was not a pale reflection of Nazism, as some have argued, but rather was part and parcel of the long-standing Japanese essentialization of the Western "Other."
