The recurring pastiches of journalistic writing in Max Jacob’s seminal collection are more complex than they initially appear—critical, not merely of this discourse’s supposed objectivity, but of the assumption that the transmission of valid, valuable news is ever really sought in the first place. The indiscretions of sensationalist, and even fallacious news items appear far less surprising when we acknowledge, along with Jacob, that the esthetic pleasure orienting poetic expression – which is dependent, precisely, on a certain distortion of truthful communication – is what the public expects from its news sources as well, if unconsciously. By identifying the texts in this collection that reference topics and discursive tropes of Belle Époque journalism (and its often indistinguishable sibling, le roman feuilleton), we find that the poet simultaneously draws on the “attractive force” of such writing, drawing his reader into its intrigue, while continually disrupting any stable referential function, through linguistic play. While Jacob is hardly an engaged artist, by laying bare the ultimately unsatisfying quick fix of headline news, reconstituting the latter as an objet d’art, he reminds us of an important truth after all: the most rewarding esthetic experiences are at once more transparent – fiction acknowledged as such – and more resistant to understanding.

The article concerns with the plays An Octoroon and Gloria by contemporary American playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. The dramaturgy of one of the most notable authors, writing for the US theatre at the present time, is thematically varied; besides, it includes both Jacobs-Jenkins’ original works (e.g., Gloria, 2015) and his adaptations of plays by other authors and/or other epochs. Among the adaptations there is the most famous of Jacobs-Jenkins' plays so far — An Octoroon (2014), which is the author's treatment of 19th century melodrama The Octoroon (1859) by Anglo-Irish dramatist Dion Boucicault. Working with the play of the 19th century, which reveals the problems of slavery in a simplified, melodramatic form, allows the contemporary playwright to actualize the consideration of racial conflicts and to reconstruct/deconstruct the generic model of melodrama. The author of the article draws attention to the reception of the minstrel tradition in the play An Octoroon, both at the level of interaction of D. Boucicault's work with American minstrel show coinciding with it in time, and in connection with the comprehension and overcoming of the “minstrel archetypes” by B. Jacobs-Jenkins. The question of casting is very important to Jacobs-Jenkins, the playwright puts forward his requirements for ethnic conformity between actors and roles in his plays, and this brings together An Octoroon and Gloria, though the works are diverse in genre and subject matter. The cultural context for the works of the American playwright is, first of all, the drama and theater of the United States throughout their development. For further studies it also seems interesting to consider B. Jacobs-Jenkins’ plays in connection with folklore traditions or, e.g., in the context of sacred genres.

Abordam-se alguns temas correlatos ao longo da pesquisa, contudo, o estudo concentra-se no antigo Munic?pio de S?o Leopoldo1, em particular na Fam?lia Kroeff, que tem suas origens na cidade alem? de Merl, no Palatinado, Alemanha. Para esse olhar mais particular e apurado sobre a Fam?lia, recorreu-se aos familiares vivos, entrevistando-os para a coleta dos dados e de suas respectivas impress?es. A an?lise segue a trajet?ria dessa Fam?lia de imigrantes, em especial a de Jacob Kroeff e seu filho, que se fixaram em Hamburguer-Berg (atual Munic?pio de Novo Hamburgo), onde instalam uma pequena pens?o e um a?ougue. Tendo em vista a imigra??o oficial, procuraram-se documentos oficiais no: AHRS, APHRS, no Arquivo Municipal de Novo Hamburgo (Vale do Rio dos Sinos) e no Museu Visconde de S?o Leopoldo. Esta tese tem por objetivo analisar a perícope de Gênesis 32,23-33 que constitui um dos elementos estruturantes do conhecido ciclo de Jacó que integra a história dos patriarcas de Israel na Bíblia Hebraica. Jacó é tomado como um dos principais ancestrais do povo judeu, não obstante sua tradição, em alguns períodos da história, ter ficado em plano inferior àquela de Moisés, por exemplo. Em Jacó convergem as esperanças de uma parte da nação que não se vê contemplada pela religião oficial que administra um culto a YHWH distante da realidade vivida pelas famílias tribais, que habitam no interior, em pequenos vilarejos e no campo. O nome dado a Jacó, em meio a uma luta, é significativo e revelador. Afinal, ele não é, nem de longe, a figura perfeita, ideal que as tradições religiosas dominantes exigiam para alguém ser considerado um verdadeiro israelita temente ao Senhor. Sua liderança e dignidade chegam, mesmo, a ser questionadas pelo profetismo. Não obstante tudo isso, é sua pessoa que encarnará, através de um nome recebido do próprio ser divino, os destinos de Israel. Personagem e indivíduo se mesclam propositalmente, a fim de revelar a verdadeira vocação daquele povo.
This thesis aims to analyze the pericope of Genesis 32,23-33 which constitutes one of the structuring elements of the well-known \"Jacob cycle\" that integrates the history of the patriarchs of Israel in the Hebrew Bible. Jacob is taken as one of the chief ancestors of the Jewish people, in spite of his tradition, at some periods in history, to have remained lower than that of Moses, for example. In Jacob converge the hopes of a part of the nation that is not seen contemplated by the official religion that administers a cult to YHWH far from the reality lived by the tribal families, that inhabit in the countryside, in small villages and in the field. The name given to Jacob in the midst of a struggle is significant and revealing. After all, he is by no means the perfect, ideal figure that prevailing religious traditions demanded for someone to be considered a \"true Israelite\" who feared the Lord. His leadership and dignity even come to be questioned by prophetism. Notwithstanding all this, it is his person who incarnates, through a name received from his own divine being, the destinies of Israel. Character and individual deliberately merge in order to reveal the true vocation of that people.

Hoewel die retorika bykans 26 eeue oud is, word die relevansie daarvan vir ons eie tyd toenemend besef - as 'n sleutel tot die wyse waarop mense dinkargumenteer en oorreed. Hierdie studie ondersoek retoriese (oorredende) strategiee in Afrikaanse historiese romantekste, binne 'n historiese konteks en teen die agtergrond van eietydse historiografiese insigte. Die aspekte van die kommunikasiesituasie wat saamhang met die retorika, word verbind met die vernuwende denke daaroor binne die hedendaagse literatuurteorie en historiografie. Die konteks van die outeur en roman word telkens bestudeer, gevolg deur 'n retoriese analise. Aristoteles se idees oor die retorika kry hierby voorrang, vanwee sy nadruk op die inventio of vinding, maar die retorika word eerder geassosieer met 'n dinamiese metode as met rigiede kategorisering. Aandag word veral bestee aan retoriese strategies in S.J. du Toit se Di koningin fan Skeba (1898) en Andre P. Brink se Houd-den-bek (1982), maar ook aan resente historiese romans wat hedendaagse historiografiese en retoriese opvattinge en konvensies ontgin en problematiseer. Beide S.J. du Toit, wat kennelik 'n goeie kennis van die antieke retorika gehad het en Andre P. While rhetoric has been part of the history of mankind for nearly 26 centuries, it is increasingly regarded as extremely relevant for our time - as a key to the way in which people think, argue and persuade. This study investigates rhetorical (persuasive) strategies in Afrikaans historical novels. The novels and their authors are first situated in their historical contexts and against the background of contemporary historiographical inquiry, and then analyzed by means of rhetorical concepts. Aspects of communication, which coincide with rhetorical categories, are combined with recent developments in the field of literary theory and historiography. Aristotle's views on persuasion and rhetoric are used as point of departure, but rhetoric is regarded as a dynamic method rather than a rigid categorization. Attention is given to rhetorical strategies in the novel Di konlngin fan Skeba [The queen of Sheba] by S.J. du Toit (1898) and Andre P. Brink's Houd-denbek [translated into English by the author as A chain of voices], but also to recent Afrikaans historical novels which exploit contemporary historiographical and rhetorical conventions. In S.J. du Toit's novel (which illustrates his knowledge of ancient rhetoric) as well as Andre P. Brink's (where the topic can be linked to litigation) rhetorical strategies are employed in such a manner that their texts can be regarded as products of their historical contexts. Both historiography and historical novels are mediated representations, characterized by a subjective selection (inventio) of data and its combination in verbal structures (dispositio). This can be related to 'extrinsic' or 'inartificial' proofs, which are not contrived by the author. The author exploits the so-called empirically verifiable facts as rhetorical strategies to create an illusion of truth or verisimilitude, which greatly contributes to the persuasiveness of the novel. The decision to write a historical novel implies a choice to keep to the historical 'facts', but the writer, in contrast to the historiographer, is ethically free to transform the inartificial proofs into artificial proofs, in combination with his own invented argumentatio and causa. Prompted by these texts the reader, in his turn, makes his own selection and creates his own causal and argumentative structures

Tutta le ricerche riguardanti la confessione prendono avvio – e non potrebbe che essere così – dal Concilio Lateranense IV del 1215 e in particolare dalla disposizione 21, meglio nota con il suo incipit Omnis utriusque sexus. È per far fronte all’adempimento di tale disposizione (che prescrive l’obbligatorietà annuale alla confessione per tutti i fedeli di entrambi i sessi, come il testo ci dice) che si sviluppa una letteratura finalizzata a istruire sia i sacerdoti (al tempo impreparati a svolgere il ruolo di confessori), sia i penitenti. Questi manuali si moltiplicano con l’avvento della stampa a caratteri mobili; in particolare si sviluppa il genere delle confessioni generali: opuscoli di poche pagine in cui si fornisce al penitente una guida all’esame di coscienza attraverso un particolareggiato elenco di peccati. A questo filone appartiene la Regola per ben confessarsi di Giacomo della Marca, sicuramente uno dei predicatori più noti dell’Osservanza francescana. Il confessionale, scritto sia in latino (con il titolo di De confessione) che in volgare, è un’opera molto nota e diffusa. Viene presentato un elenco di tutti i peccati possibili, organizzati secondo un’ampia varietà di griglie concettuali: i dodici articoli della fede; i sette vizi capitali; i dieci comandamenti; i cinque sensi corporali; i sette sacramenti; le sette opere della misericordia corporale e spirituale; le tre virtù teologali e i doni dello Spirito Santo, ecc. L’importanza e la diffusione del testo sono testimoniate dalle otto edizioni a stampa segnalate tra il 1465 e il 1550 (cfr. Jacobson Schutte 1983: 208-209). Sono censiti anche tre manoscritti: il codice 33, posseduto dalla Biblioteca francescana e picena di Falconara Marittima; il Ricc. 341, presente presso la Biblioteca Riccardiana di Firenze e il manoscritto 2806, conservato presso la Biblioteca Augusta di Perugia. Nonostante ciò il testo non è stato oggetto di uno studio critico approfondito. Per tale motivo, il mio lavoro si è posto l’obiettivo di approntare l’edizione del testo di uno dei maggiori rappresentanti del francescanesimo marchigiano, fornendo un ulteriore tassello per lo studio di quel settore della letteratura penitenziale costituito dai confessionali. La collazione dei manoscritti e delle stampe ha rivelato la complessa situazione testuale: gli esemplari non derivano tutti dallo stesso originale ma sono copie di testi diversi. Nell’impossibilità, quindi, di ricostruire validamente la volontà d’autore, ho scelto di riportare in edizione il testo della Biblioteca di Falconara, ritenendo che questo codice rappresenti il bon manuscrit perché lo considero portatore del testo ‘reale’, circolato al suo tempo; questo esemplare, infatti, ha un nucleo comune a tutti, presente in una forma né troppo stringata né troppo estesa. Nella seconda parte del mio lavoro, il testo è stato oggetto di un commento linguistico basato sulla veste fonetica, morfologica e sintattica, in primo luogo; successivamente mi sono concentrata su un’analisi di tipo pragmatico-testuale, fondata sulla teoria delle tradizioni discorsive, così come è stata elaborata in ambito tedesco. Lo scopo della mia ricerca è stato quindi quello di rendere nota una delle opere che maggiormente si inscrive nel clima religioso Quattrocentesco e di evidenziare se i suoi caratteri linguistici, confrontati con opere appartenenti allo stesso genere, possano codificare una vera e propria tradizione discorsiva.

In a move away from overarching explanations of the Terror based on ideology, class or a ‘system of Terror’, historians have been investigating the web of connections between politics, ideology, tactics, emotions and the role of individuals. Consequently, a more complex picture of revolutionary politics has begun to emerge. This chapter uses these new approaches to examine the individual experiences of Jacobin leaders. It asks how far we can reconstruct the motives that led individual Jacobin leaders to choose terror. Personal factors, including friendships, influenced political decision-making to a far greater extent than previously acknowledged. Emotions, above all fear, played an integral role in the Terror. The Jacobin leaders needed to maintain their public identity as ‘men of virtue’ or risk being destroyed in the politicians’ terror. The chapter examines the genesis of the politicians’ terror that culminated in the mutual destruction of political factions during the Year II.

Abstract The second major section of the Yahwist’s epic begins in Genesis 9 with the family of Noah, the only human survivors of the flood, and concludes with the emigration of Jacob’s family to Egypt in Genesis 45-50. Its narratives are dominated by stories of Israel’s ancestors residing in the Canaanite hill country that made up the heartland of biblical Israel. Of these ancestors, the families of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are given by far the most attention. The stories of these three families in the hills of Canaan reveal most about the Yahwist’s environment and his attitudes toward it in this part of the epic.

Jacob Burckhardt, the famous historian of Renaissance and Greek culture that Nietzsche highly appreciated, famously said that ‘What is of interest to [him] is not so much to see how far the Greeks took philosophy as to see how far philosophy took them.’ The phrase encapsulates the fascinating tension that pervades Burckhardt’s attitude towards Greek philosophy: whereas he was fundamentally hostile to philosophical doctrines, in particular because philosophers were themselves doctrinally hostiles to art, he also highly praised philosophy in as much as the embodiment of one of the great achievements of Greek culture, the development of the ‘free personality’. This explains why the Cynics, with little doctrine and much life, were his preferred philosophers.

As we have seen he perceived it as an essentially democratic medium, based upon a kind of documentary source, the pre-literary chronicle of the exegetai (Ar.u.Ath. i. 260-90). His view has been replaced, as far as modern scholarship goes, by Jacoby’s great study of the genre in his Atthis. There Jacoby put forward his theory of the ‘political conception of the Atthis’, the idea that ‘political war was waged from the fifties of the fourth In sum, we have a man who, while he was not a great historian, was not without intelligence, concern for detail, or experience in the affairs he was most concerned to describe. His account of fourth-century Athenian history, especially the years 360-340, would have been of great value.

Abstract The chapter examines the understanding of the divine capacity of the human subject in the speculative thought of the German mystic, Jacob Boehme. Boehme’s theosophy not only represents a subversion of Luther’s anthropology, but goes far beyond any uplifting of the divine-human relation in the Christian tradition. While Boehme is by no means constitutive of German Idealism’s and Romanticism’s later celebration of the divine capacity of the self, he is a determinate influence that makes possible the sense that these post-Enlightenment forms of thought can take on the mantle of Christianity. For German Idealism, the claim is that the intimacy of the divine and human is such that one cannot do without the other, For Romanticism, both German and English, the poet enjoys a capacity for vision of what is truly spiritual that transcends the finite, perspectival point of view, and is nothing less than the divine’s view of itself.

Abstract Frankism is perhaps most notorious for its alleged sexual libertinism, though the rumors of it far exceed the evidence. Chapter 5 presents the evidence that does exist and discusses the challenges in interpreting and theorizing Frankist sexual antinomianism. This included not only a libertine attitude toward sex and apparently rare, choreographed sexual ritual, but women taking leadership roles in the community and a conception, inherited from Sabbateanism, that the liberation of women and sexuality is part of the messianic age. Frank tropes this liberation as devotion to the Maiden—a syncretic, messianic figure who is a perennial, feminine incarnation of sensuality. Drawing on feminist and queer readings of religious texts, chapter 5 explores four meanings of sexual praxis in Frankism: sexuality as worldly ecstasy, the remasculinization of the Jewish hero, messianic enactment, and the liberation of the “feminine.” Religion’s subordination of material to spiritual, female to male, is ascribed by Frank to the demonic, while Frankist sexual practice offers a privatized and displaced messianic experience in opposition to it. Sexual liberation is a foretaste of the messianic age.

This paper investigates the Runge-Kutta implicit scheme applied to the solution of the time spectral method for periodic unsteady flow simulation. Several explicit and implicit time integration schemes including the Runge-Kutta scheme, Block-Jacobi SSOR (symmetric successive over relaxation)scheme and Block-Jacobi Runge-Kutta/Implicit scheme are implemented into an in-house code and applied to the time marching solution of the time spectral method. The time integration is coupled with Full Approximation Storage (FAS) type multi-grid method for convergence acceleration. The in-house code is based on the finite volume method and solves the RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes) equations on multi-block structured mesh. For spatial discretization the 3rd/5th order WENO (weighted essentially nonoscillatory) upwind scheme is used for reconstruction and the convective flux is computed with Roe approximate Riemann solver. The widely used one-equation Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model is used in the simulations. The time integration schemes for the solution of the time spectral method are tested with two different compressor cascades with periodically oscillating inlet boundary conditions. The first case is a low speed compressor stator with inlet flow angle varying with time. The second case is a high speed compressor rotor with inlet boundary condition profile to simulation the influence of upstream wakes. The results show that for moderate frequencies and wave mode numbers, the Block-Jacobi Runge-Kutta/Implicit scheme shows favorable convergence behavior compared to the other schemes. However, for extremely high frequencies and wave mode numbers such as in the simulation of high rotating speed compressors, the advantage of the Block-Jacobi Runge-Kutta/Implicit scheme over the explicit Runge-Kutta scheme is totally lost.

A hybrid Large Eddy Simulation (LES) related technique is used to explore some key turbomachinery relevant flows. Near wall RANS modeling is used to cover over especially small scales, the LES resolution of which is generally intractable with current computational power. Away from walls, large eddy type simulation is used but with no LES model (NLES). Linking of the two model zones through a Hamilton-Jacobi equation is explored. The hybrid strategy is used to predict turbine and compressor endwall flows, flow around a fan blade section, jet flows and a cutback trailing edge. Also, application of NLES to the flow in an idealized high pressure compressor drum cavity is considered. Generally, encouraging results are found. However, challenges remain, especially for flows where transition modeling is important.

Abstract The hydrodynamic forces induced by combined irregular waves and currents acting on a small-diameter pipeline are investigated based on some physical tests. The results suggest that the Morison equation leads to poor predictions of the time-variant forces when the pipeline is mounted on the bottom. For the on-bottom cases, the method suggested by Jacobsen et al. (1988) is demonstrated to work better than the traditional Morison equation. However, the Morison equation performs reasonably well on describing the temporal forces when the pipeline is far away from the seabed.

Abstract Following knee surgery, especially after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, a small percentage of patients complain about significantly decreased patellar mobility accompanied by anterior knee pain, sometimes severe. The limited mobility and knee pain usually do not disappear even with aggressive physical therapy. Arthroscopic exploration of these knees reveals a closure of the patellar tendon-tibial (PTT) interval, i.e., severe fibrous adhesion of the patellar tendon to the anterior aspect of the tibia, the formation of fibrous tissue between the quadriceps tendon and the femur, and a ‘closed-off’ suprapatellar pouch. Other investigators have also noted such adhesion (Paulos et al., 1987 & 1994; Jacobson et al., 1989), and Hughston (1985) attributed the tendon adhesion to the scarring of infrapatellar and suprapatellar fat pad caused by the surgery. While the adhesions are important clinical problems associated with knee surgery, no study to date, other than our experimental study on patellar tendon contracture, has quantitatively investigated the effect of these adhesions on knee kinematics and contact forces (Ahmad et al., 1997). In this study, we use a 3-D mathematical model of the knee joint to analyze the effects of the patellar tendon adhesion (PA) to the anterior tibia, and the quadriceps tendon adhesion (QA) to the anterior femur. Our objective, therefore, is to demonstrate the effects of these types of post-operative adhesions on patellofemoral joint mechanics.

Gravity compensation of spatial parallel manipulators is a relatively recent topic of investigation. Perfect balancing, by either counterweights or elastic elements, has been accomplished, so far, only for parallel mechanisms in which the weight of the moving platform is sustained by legs comprising purely rotational joints. Indeed, balancing of parallel mechanisms with translational actuators, which are among the most common and used ones, has been traditionally thought possible only by resorting to additional legs containing no prismatic joints between the base and the end-effector. This paper presents the conceptual and mechanical design of a balanced Gough/Stewart-type manipulator, in which the weight of the platform is entirely sustained by the legs comprising the extensible jacks. By the integrated action of both elastic elements and counterweights, each leg is statically balanced and it generates, at its tip, a constant force balancing the weight of the end-effector in any admissible configuration. If no elastic elements are used, the resulting manipulator is balanced with respect to the shaking force too. Two Appendices are also provided, presenting formal and novel derivations of the necessary and sufficient conditions allowing i) a body arbitrarily rotating in space to rest in a state of neutral equilibrium under the action of general constant-force generators, ii) a body pivoting about a universal joint and acted upon by a number of zero-free-length springs to exhibit constant potential energy regardless of its configuration.

Abstract One of the efforts achieve Key Performance Indicator is to realize efficient organizational performance. Optimizing rig movement management is needed in PT. Pertamina Hulu Indonesia Sangasanga Field by reducing the duration of moving between wells and ensuring that the Rig cycle time kept to minimum. In real condition, all equipment in rig unit is still arranged on its own Skid with a large number of transport loads and in the activity of moving Rig/Hoist equipment between wells, all equipment transported is moved and rearranged at the next well location by using Winch Truck, Truck Crane, Flatbed truck and Crane. Moving activities with Winch Trucks and Truck Cranes accompanied by lifting activities have a high risk with 14 loading loads per moving rig. With far distance between sub working area and various obstacles such as river, bridge load limit, land and river transportation types resulting in long rig moving time. In 2019, to the second semester 2020 the loss when moving rigs reached USD 1,483 Million. The limited number of lifting and transporting equipment, the number of equipment and the loading-unloading process are the dominant cause for long moving rig time. To solve this problem, we modify the rig equipment into an On Trailer with the aim to arrange all Rig operational support equipment on the trailer both during operation and moving, and to reduce the number of loads, rig moving time and the risk of lifting. On Trailer is equipped with Handrail & walkway, sets of manual jacks, and trailer and prime mover connection including pneumatic line system. After the implementation of On Trailer, the frequency of loading, unloading and setting work drops to 9 times lower so the potential for tool damage decreases, moving rig time managed to decrease to 9.6 hours thus decrease rig personnel workload. By using On Trailer, it successfully reached cost efficiency of USD 1,354/well, the risk of work accidents due to lifting & rigging activities minimized to 9 times and reduce the CO2 emission is 2,487 Gj/year due to decrease of fossil fuel consumption.

The present article aims to explore some assumptions about how complexity operates more flexible approaches to urbanism. To this end, were analyzed theoretical productions and contemporary design strategies that eschew very deterministic and generalizing logics, thus admitting the possibility of characterizing cities as a system far-from-equilibrium. After characterizing such condition, some properties inherent to the complex nature of cities were defined, without very clear outlines. An indication – or arrangement - that makes possible to understand some alternatives of acting in the city, not in an imperative way, but recognizing its indeterminacies as project tools. They are: Interactions, which operate and engender dynamics, establishing constructive relations of new realities; Becoming, as an expression of the creative force, the possibilities of multiple and mutual fecundations; and Entropy, which reveals our ability to recognize the possibilities of a system facing off unpredictability and new arrangements. O urbanista italiano Bernardo Secchi (1934-2014), em diversas ocasiões, enfatiza sua preocupação com a simplificação do funcionamento urbano própria do Movimento Moderno e levanta a necessidade sobre um novo olhar para a cidade contemporânea que, ao mesmo tempo, opera maiores níveis de abstração e de precisão (SECCHI, 2006). As questões que orientam essa pesquisa estão relacionadas às contribuições das teorias sobre Complexidade, que, assim como para as ciências exatas e biológicas, apresentam para o campo das sociais um importante ferramental para a revisão de paradigmas deterministas e que enriquece as concepções de fenômenos considerados caóticos ou aleatórios. Buscamos investigar com quais pressupostos a Complexidade opera, analisando abordagens mais flexíveis, produções teóricas e estratégias projetuais contemporâneas que escampam das lógicas muito deterministas e generalizantes, admitindo assim a possibilidade de caracterizar as cidades como um sistema que não tende ao equilíbrio. A noção de equilíbrio e a imagem da cidade-máquina e do planejamento controlador, desviaram o debate sobre as questões críticas essenciais e ajudou a manter a ilusão de um falso controle sobre a morfologia urbana e suas dinâmicas. A imagem de uma “boa” cidade – equilibrada – era, nessa ilusão, aquela que se apresentava homogênea, onde todas suas variações e diversidades pudessem ser controladas através, por exemplo, do zoneamento e da hipercodificação, ideia também refutada por Jane Jacobs em 1961. Com isso, a percepção de que o Planejamento Urbano deveria trabalhar buscando uma cidade estável e funcional começou a sobrecarregar não só sua teoria e prática, mas também a noção de que as cidades eram compreensíveis através de analogias com a ciência reducionista e as tecnologias industriais do passado. Após os anos 70, quando os objetivos do Planejamento Urbano passaram a ser refutados e as incertezas sobre as possíveis transformações teóricas e práticas que deveriam ser propostas para pensar as cidades, o mundo mudou (BATTY, 2012). O químico Ilya Prigogine, ao propor sua tese sobre estruturas dissipativas e auto-organização de sistemas longe do equilíbrio, indica os problemas relacionados ao reducionismo, abrindo possibilidades para novos níveis de descrição e análise de diversos fenômenos do universo, chama a responsabilidade da física para além de comportamentos analisados em ambientes perfeitamente controlados, estáveis e previsíveis. Anuncia assim uma “nova ciência” capaz de interpretar os comportamentos evolutivos que escorregam entre as “malhas da rede científica” e leva em conta as incertezas e diversidades da natureza e seus eventos complexos, por vezes considerados, aos olhos deterministas, transitórios e sem importância. Interessa então entender concepções teóricas que permitem possibilidades menos duras, fechadas e estáticas de percepção dos espaços e suas dinâmicas. Para tal, é preciso considerar que, em sistemas longe do equilíbrio como as cidades, sua evolução apresenta comportamentos e estados variados, de previsibilidade limitada. Como Prigogine insiste em dizer, nada mais natural, uma vez que estamos falando de um mundo real onde a “natureza apresenta-nos, de fato, a imagem da criação, da imprevisível novidade. Nosso universo seguiu um caminho de ramificações sucessivas: poderia ter seguido outros” (PRIGOGINE, 1996). Dada a impossibilidade de controlar seus desdobramentos, nos é disponível entender tal sistema através de seus “eventos e qualidades – transições de fase – resultantes de fluxos de matéria e energia que passam por eles. ” (BRISSAC, 2010). Para a análise das estratégias projetuais proposta nessa pesquisa, viu-se a necessidade de definir algumas propriedades que oferecessem bases comparativas, reconhecer indícios pela qual algo prova pertencer a categorias não estabelecidas aqui. Tal definição não pretendem ter um contorno muito claro com função de predicados para esses projetos, muito menos uma lista fechada, mas uma indicação, um certo agenciamento/ agrupamento ou um reconhecimento de como “ se relacionar com a matéria - através de suas próprias tendências e não pela imposição de uma forma preestabelecida. ” (BRISSAC, 2010). Considerando as características atribuídas aos sistemas complexos, definimos as seguintes propriedades: Interações, que operam, engendram – e são engendradas por – dinâmicas, influencias, perturbações, disputas e articulações, estabelecem relações construtivas de novas realidades, são linhas de forças que agem como combustível para trajetórias não-lineares de futuros incertos, trata-se, portanto de estratégias que entendam o projeto como síntese resultante das interações de múltiplos fatores, internos e externo; Devir, o "jorro efetivo de novidade imprevisível” (PRIGOGINE, 2009), de força criativa, o que está em vias de ser (vínculo com o futuro incerto), estratégias que, de uma forma ou de outra, tem como pressupostos a função de palco (que também faz parte do espetáculo) para possibilidades de fecundações múltiplas e mutuas, da força “comunicativa e contagiosa” – colocada por Deleuze e Guattari – que, sem códigos precedentes, constrói; e Entropia, a medida da probabilidade da ocorrência de eventos e da nossa habilidade em reconhecer possibilidades de determinado sistema face à imprevisibilidade de interações e novos arranjos resultantes, estratégias que assumem o carácter evolutivo das cidades, de configurações de “ajustes soltos” (ALLEN, 1999), menos codificada – ou de codificações muito abstratas – mas que de certa maneira apresentam condições para assimilar eventos, transformando-se, que assumem como premissa a tensão entre ordem e desordem e seu “ caráter provisório, instável e de sobreposições contínuas” (MEYER, 2003).
