Abstract (sommario):
Nothing had been published on women indigenous combatants until Ligia Peláez edited memorias rebeldes contra el olvido: Paasantzila txumb'al ti' sortzeb'al k'u‘l, a collection of essays portraying the voices of Ixil and K'iche’ women. During the Guatemalan Civil War they fought with the Guerrilla Army of the Poor. When the war ended in 1996, they returned to their hometowns. About six hundred of them founded the Kumool Association in 1999. Peláez, an academic working for the Association for the Advancement of the Social Sciences, met them in Uspantán in May 2006. She returned in June with her team, and by the second meeting, in July, the Kumool women chose to collaborate in the writing of a book about their experience.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose: The objective is to employ a stochastic model to develop a new technical analysis indicator that could compute the variation of any index. We demonstrate the superiority and applicability of our proposed model and show that our proposed indicator could help investors and market analysts to anticipate the market trend in the short term and make better trading decisions by using our proposed model to analyze the variation of the NASDAQ Composite Index (IXIC). Design/methodology/approach: This study uses a stochastic process without mean-reverting property to develop a stochastic model that could compute the variation of any index. To show the superiority and applicability of our proposed model in computing the variation of any index, we employ our proposed model to compute the daily closing values of the IXIC over 10 years and derive the variation of the IXIC index. Findings: Our findings indicate that, based on the mean absolute percentage error, the calibrated model we proposed provides a more accurate estimate of the short-term index that outperforms both the simple moving average and the MACD in predictive accuracy. It delivers a robust anticipation of the overall market trend by offering a 95% confidence interval for the value of the composite NASDAQ index. Practical Implications: Our proposed indicator could help investors and market analysts to anticipate the market trend in the short term and make better trading decisions. Our proposed model provides market analysts with a forecasting tool by using our proposed technical analysis indicator to anticipate the market trend, which outperforms some traditional indicators of technical analysis, including Simple Moving Averages and Moving Average Convergence Divergence. Originality/value: Our approach, results, and conclusions are original and new in the literature. Our proposed model is a new technical indicator for predicting any index based on a stochastic process, which has been found to outperform some classical indicators. This research makes significant contributions to the field of decision sciences because the indicator we have developed plays a crucial role. It enables better buying and selling decisions based on market trend predictions estimated by using our proposed model. In this way, the indicator offers added value to professionals in making investment decisions. The results of this research work contribute to the development of new technical analysis indicators. Here, the IXIC index is an example, the use of this indicator is wider and could concern any stock market index and any share. So, this work enriches the literature and opens up new avenues for any researcher who wants to use stochastic processes to develop new technical indicators for different financial assets.

Abstract (sommario):
We utilize the multifractal detrended cross-correlation analysis (MF-DCCA) to investigate the cross-correlations between the US economic policy uncertainty (EPU) and US stock markets in the framework of Fractal Market Hypothesis (FMH). The data contain daily closing values of EPU, and the returns of Dow Jones Industrial Average Index (DJI), S&P 500 index (GSPC) and NASDAQ Composite Index (IXIC). Our empirical results show that changes in EPU and fluctuations in the US stock markets interact in a nonlinear way. Furthermore, there exists significant multifractality in the cross-correlations between EPU and stock markets. The cross-correlations exhibit dynamics and are affected by major international events. We capture the underlying mechanisms such as multifractality and nonlinear relation that dominate EPU-US stock markets nexus by means of FMH. The findings add a new dimension to the existing literature, and are important for market participants to adjust investment decisions.

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Introduction Respectful maternity care (RMC) is fundamental to women’s and families’ experience of care and their decision about where to give birth. Studies from multiple countries describe the mistreatment of women during facility-based childbirth, though only a small number of studies from Guatemala have been published. Less information is available on women’s negative and positive experiences of childbirth care and health workers’ perceptions and experiences of providing maternity care. Methods As part of a program implemented in the Western Highlands of Guatemala to improve quality of reproductive maternal newborn and child health care, a mixed methods assessment was conducted in three hospitals and surrounding areas to understand women’s and health workers’ experience and perceptions of maternity care. The quantitative component included a survey of 31 maternity health workers and 140 women who had recently given birth in these hospitals. The qualitative component included in-depth interviews (IDIs) and focus group discussions (FGDs) with women and maternity health workers and managers. Results Women reported a mix of positive and negative experiences of childbirth care related to interpersonal and health system factors. 81% of surveyed women reported that health workers had treated them with respect while 21.4% of women reported verbal abuse. Fifty-five percent and 12% of women, respectively, reported not having access to a private toilet and bath or shower. During IDIs and FGDs, many women described higher rates of verbal abuse directed at women who do not speak Spanish. A regression analysis of survey results indicated that speaking Ixil or K’iche at home was associated with a higher likelihood of women being treated negatively during childbirth in a facility. Health worker survey results corroborated negative aspects of care described by women and also reported mistreatment of health workers by clients and families (70.9%) and colleagues (48.2%). Conclusions This study adds to the literature on women’s experience of institutional childbirth and factors that influence this experience by triangulating experience and perceptions of both women and health workers. This assessment highlights opportunities to address mistreatment of both women and health workers and to build on positive care attributes to strengthen RMC for all women.

Abstract (sommario):
Background: Ongoing systematic studies of the African flora necessitate periodic nomenclatural adjustments and corrections. Objectives: To effect requisite nomenclatural changes.Method: Relevant literature was surveyed and type material located and studied. Results: Nomenclatural corrections were published in Justicia L. (Acanthaceae), Babiana KerGawl. and Geissorhiza Ker Gawl. (Iridaceae) and Zaluzianskya F.W.Schmidt (Scrophulariaceae). Conclusions: Firstly, a complete enumeration of all southern African species of Justicia was provided within the infrageneric classification for the genus accepted by Graham (1988) and later modified and expanded by Ensermu (1990) and Hedrén (1990). In this circumscription, Justicia includes such well-established segregates in an African context as Adhatoda Miller, Aulojusticia Lindau, Duvernoia E.Mey. ex Nees, Monechma Hochst. and Siphonoglossa Oersted. Both southern African species of Adhatoda were transferred to Justicia, as well as all of the southern African species of Monechma, with eight new combinations or replacement names provided. All species were placed to section within Justicia. Secondly, the type of Gladiolus nervosus Lam. (1788) was considered to be conspecific with Gladiolus strictus Aiton (1789) and is therefore the earliest available name for the species currently known as Babiana stricta (Aiton) Ker Gawl. The new combination Babiana nervosa (Lam.) Goldblatt J.C.Manning was provided. Thirdly, Geissorhiza ornithogaloides has been regarded as a new species described by F.W. Klatt (1866) but the name should be treated as the combination G. ornithogaloides (Lichst. ex Roem. Schult.) Klatt, based on Ixia ornithogaloides Lichst. ex Roem. Schult.(1817a). Examination of the type showed that it is conspecific with Geissorhiza marlothii R.C.Foster (1941) and it is therefore the valid name for the taxon treated as G. ornithogaloides subsp. marlothii (R.C.Foster) Goldblatt. An epitype for the taxon was designated and the new combination G. ornithogaloides subsp. flava (Klatt) Goldblatt J.C.Manning was provided for the taxon currently treated as G. ornithogaloides subsp. ornithogaloides. Lastly, Reyemia Hilliardwas reduced to a synonym of Zaluziaskya as sect. Reyemia (Hilliard) J.C.Manning Goldblattand the new combination Zaluziaskya chasmanthiflora (Hilliard) J.C.Manning Goldblatt was provided. A neotype was selected for Zaluziaskya nemesioides Diels.
