AbstractArising out of the observation of the seemingly insignificant status of Isaac in the ancestral narrative of Genesis xii-xxxvi, this study explores the role and function of Isaac in Genesis. Two contrastive readings are applied to the Isaac material: one synchronic focussing on the characterisation of Isaac in those episodes in which he appears in the narrative; and a diachronic analysis focussing on the extant Isaac traditions in Genesis xxvi. Both readings support a subordination of Isaac to Abraham, but differ in their understanding of how this subordination takes place. Both readings agree that the outcome of the subordination of Isaac is the transfer of the promises to Isaac, thus providing the basis for the promises to continue into subsequent generations. In becoming the recipient of the promises, Isaac becomes the crucial, proto-typical link between Abraham and the future generations of Israel.

Abstract (sommario):
This is a rhetorical criticism of the science fiction short story, "Profession," by Isaac Asimov. Primary focus is on Asimov's persuasive use of this message to influence potentially creative young people to consider technological careers. A brief synopsis of the story is given, along with a statement of the functional role of science fiction in accustoming individuals to societal changes resulting from technological advancements.Methodology is based upon Kenneth Burke's dramatism which views human action in terms of a drama. Burke's concepts of identification and occupational psychosis are used in discovering the rhetor's use of persuasive strategies. Burke's pentad is used for analysis of significant ratios. The dominance of the act-scene ratio is demonstrated by the supremacy of action over motion.Asimov's work shows the influence of a philosophy of realism, identifiable by the featuring of the pentadic term "act." Asimov's primary motives are identified as a desire to share his belief in the benefits of technology and his own need for creative self-expression.

The general objective of this dissertation is to analyze the metaphysical aspects of "rational mechanics" of Isaac Newton, clarifying, by scientific and philosophical discourse, their main elements, with emphasis to the presence of one entity infinitely rational behind all the phenomena of nature, and to the Newton's insight as certain empiricist which, however, accepts deductions metaphysics; a philosopher-scientist. The specific objectives are detailed below: a) brief presentation of the development of modern science, since the Pre-Socratics, seeking to understand the historical conjecture that enabled the rise of Newtonian mechanics; b) presentation of the elements of scientific methodology and philosophical, aimed at comprehension of certain "Newtonian methodology", understanding how this specific methodology able to present empirical aspects, mathematics, philosophic and religious in communion; c) to understand, from the Newtonian concepts, both concerning man's role in the world as the "notional notions" of mass, space, time and movement, necessary for analysis and understanding of certain metaphysical aspects in the Newtonian physics; d) to present the Newtonian concepts related to the ether, to understand why it necessarily assumes metaphysics characteristics and mediation between the bodies; e) to present and understand the factors that lead the empiricist Newton to assume the religion in his mechanics, as well as, the existence and functions of God in nature, to object to the higher content of his metaphysics; f) to highlight the metaphysical elements of his classical mechanics, that confirm the presence of concepts like God Creator and Preserver of the natural laws; g) at last, to analyze the importance of Newton to the modern metaphysics and the legacy to philosophy of science at sec. XVII to science contemporary
O objetivo geral dessa disserta??o ? analisar os aspectos metaf?sicos da mec?nica racional de Isaac Newton, esclarecendo, pelo discurso cient?fico e filos?fico, os seus elementos principais, com destaque para a presen?a de uma entidade infinitamente racional por tr?s dos fen?menos de toda a natureza, e para a percep??o de Newton como certo empirista que, no entanto, aceita dedu??es metaf?sicas; um fil?sofo-cientista. An analysis of Newton’s main life events and works highlights how his scientific commitment has always been followed by a living interest for theology, Biblical exegesis and alchemy. Chiefly due to a late re-discovery of a great bulk of Newtonian manuscripts, scholars have been able to enquire into the true nature of these documents. Yet nothing has been said about a possible influence of alchemical knowledge over Newton’s Biblical exegesis. One of the main goals of this Ph.D. thesis of mine is to suggest some possible hypotheses about the interaction between Newton’s alchemical mind and his millenarianism. A key role in the development of my criticism will be played by the analysis of some previously unpublished manuscripts gathered in the Yahuda Collection (Jewish National and University Library of Jerusalem).

In this essay the remastered version of the video game The Binding of Isaac- The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, has been analysed on how it will fit as an educational material in the Swedish upper-secondary school. The portrayals and thematics in the game that is compatible for discussion in the ethic and moral field has been compared to two points from the curriculum for religious studies in the Swedish upper-secondary school, regarding ethic and moral arguments, theories and models. The parts of the game analysed is split in to two main groups: the Abrahamic religion’s position in the ethic and moral dilemmas in question, and how the discussions regarding the ethic and moral-compatible portrayals and thematics in upper-secondary school classroom’s could evolve. I concluded that the video game would be compatible with education in the upper-secondary school, though it’s up to the responsible teacher, regarding the time aspect, and how the teacher would consider the game to be received by pupils.

Abstract (sommario):
Recently the development of graphical methods using the ISAAC code’s calculation data has been started in order to show the Wolsong 1 & 2 PHWR plants behaviour during the severe accidents. This graphic model is designed to provide two basic functions: one is to provide the graphical display of several plants systems together with the important parameters. For example, the representative T/H behaviour, fuel behaviour, fuel channel behaviour, reactor core behaviour, containment behaviour and fission product behaviour are going to be displayed in a graphic window. The other function is the control capability equipped with the controllable valves and pumps in the PHWR SAMG. In this paper, details of the elementary technical aspects of the ISAAC graphic model are presented which are the system structure, ISAAC variable definition, data communication methods and graphical display generation.

The aim of this paper is to elaborate on the historical background of this eminent historical mining site in Central Europe and then present and analyse the key findings from our excavations of Isaac Potter’s engine house. Despite its notoriety in international historiography and some older detailed studies on Potter by Slovak historians, no efforts were made to locate and excavate the engine site and its associated Althandel shaft in Nová Baňa in Central Slovakia. The archaeological excavation was initiated as a project of a mining museum in the municipality of Nová Baňa. Its aim was to confirm the location of the Althandel shaft, and any building remains of the related atmospheric pumping engine. Based on three years of archaeological and historical research, it was possible to document the existence of the engine house and connect it to the activities of Isaac Potter in Nová Baňa.

Ringhals kärnkraftverk är en av Sveriges största elproducenter. På grund av intag och utsläpp av havsvatten som kyler processen i kraftverket sker en påverkan på den omgivande kustvattenmiljön. Denna påverkan övervakas och analyseras i det biologiska recipientkontrollprogrammet. Föreliggande årsrapport presenterar resultat av undersökningarna inom kontrollprogrammet för 2022. Fokus i årsrapporten ligger på samhället av fisk och skaldjur, förluster av ägg, larver och yngel i kylvattenvägarna samt förekomsten av främmande arter. I kylvattenintaget utförs under våren två olika årliga provtagningar för att övervaka förlusterna av olika fiskstadier i kraftverket: En provtagning av fiskägg och fisklarver med en Bongohåv, och en provtagning av yngel och juvenil fisk med en modifierad Isaac-Kidd-trål. I ägg- och larvprovtagningen 2022 var de vanligaste förekommande fiskäggen från torsk och de vanligaste fisklarverna från skrubbskädda och tobis (kust-/havs-). Provtagningen i kylvattenintaget efter juvenil fisk och yngel är till stor del fokuserad på fångsterna av glasål (Anguilla anguilla). Fångsterna med Isaac-Kidd-trålen 2022 dominerades av sillyngel följt av klarbult, tobisyngel och glasål. Effekten av utgående uppvärmt kylvatten undersöks genom årliga provfisken på tre lokaler: recipientområdet vid Ringhals, som påverkas av kylvattnet, referensområdet vid Vendelsö, som är opåverkat av kylvatten, och området vid Norra Horta, som är delvis påverkat av kylvattnet. Provfisket genomförs två gånger per år, under april och augusti. För 2022 var skärsnultra generellt den vanligaste fiskarten vid provfisket, förutom under april i referensområdet där stensnultra var vanligast. Generellt var förekomsten av varmvattengynnade arter högre i recipientområdet och förekomsten av kallvattengynnade arter högre i referensområdet. Totalfångsten av strandkrabba var hög i samtliga lokaler och fiskeperioder, med kulmen i recipientområdet i augusti. Området kring renshusledningens utlopp undersöktes med ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) för att visuellt inspektera påverkan på botten. Utsläpp och sedimentation av skaldelar från musslor och krabbor har även i år minskat till följd av relativt lågt kylvattenflöde. För att undersöka eventuell förekomst av invasiva främmande arter genomfördes en dykkartering i fem områden utanför kraftverkets kylvattenutsläpp. Sammantaget för de fem områdena observerades det sex invasiva främmande arter av alger (rödsvansing, japantofs, japanplym, agaralg, japansk sargassotång, och grönalgen klykalg) samt en främmande djurart (stillahavsostron). Utöver dykkarteringen så hittades även blåskrabba under provfisket i april. Samtliga främmande arter är kända på svenska västkusten sedan tidigare.

För 2023 var skärsnultra generellt den överlägset vanligaste fiskarten vid provfisket på samtliga fiskade lokaler, förutom i referensområdet under april där torsk var vanligast. Mest skärsnultra fångades vid Norra Horta. Generellt sett var arter som föredrar varmare vatten vanligare i recipientområdet och arter som föredrar kallare vatten vanligare i referensområdet. Totalfångsten av strandkrabba var stor på samtliga lokaler under båda fiskeperioderna, med de största fångsterna i recipientområdet i augusti.
