Testo completoFrom 1945 to 1962, the French and foreign immigration from Algeria contributed to the rebuilding and then to the development of Saint-Denis in a decisive way. A quantitative study of the migratory flood and of the jobs occupied by the studied population allow to precise its contribution to the demographic and economic expansion of this key City belonging to the 'red belt' of Paris. The political tendencies and the actions developed by the communist municipality reveal both a continuous commitment towards the Foreigners and the French muslims from Algeria and the obstacles they encountered when they arrived for the first time in France alter the war. Tanks to nearly sixty biographical interviews ("life stories'), the strategies liulsed to their identity and path are studied. The dynamics appropriate to the proteam process such as integration and assimilation are studied. An attempt of building a mode reveals, a 'dionysian melting pot'

Testo completoThis research deals with the evolution of two ambivalent phenomena and their effects on the insertion of immigrant populations : on one side, the economic slow down born from the first oil shock : on the other, the reconstruction of immigrants families in France as a consequence of the end of labour migrations. The addition of these two phenomena led us to distinguish two types of mutations among these populations : first the internal mutations which were conducive to changes in the demographic and employment characteristics of their members; secondly the external mutations linked with the evolution of the local economic situation, after the collapse of the industrial sector. Because of the deep disruption of local realities, we focused our field work on the problems of immigrants, mainly those related to urban exclusion

Testo completoMy research project deals with the forced displacement, step migration and urban integration of the Syrian Dom. The Syrian Dom are an ethnic minority present in the Levant, characterised by their strong marginalisation and precariousness, a stateless status, and a semi-nomadic lifestyle.Since 2012, a large part of this community has left Syria to settle in refugee camps in Turkey and Lebanon. Some of them subsequently immigrated to France and Belgium from 2014. Their recent settlement in the Paris region has forced them to adapt to a new urban environment, and to find the means to meet their most pressing needs on a day-to-day basis: food, housing and finding their way around the city. My analysis of their urban integration therefore focuses on three themes: the informal economy, housing and interactions with the authorities, with the question of school as a common thread. Indeed, the organization of the household is conditioned by the children's schooling. Thus, a central part of my research focuses on the schooling of Dom children as a vector of community integration, for several reasons. The first is that almost all the children in the community have no experience of schooling prior to their displacement, due to the stigmatization of their social status in Syria and the long journey they had to make to reach France. Some families have spent more than a year in five different countries, including Lebanon, Mauritania, Algeria, Morocco, the Spanish enclave in Morocco and finally France. The second reason is the decisive impact of education on both children and their families. It involves the relationship of families with their neighbourhoods and the tactics deployed on a day-to-day basis through the informal economy, in which the Dom community is involved

Testo completoStudying the electoral behaviour of young people French resulting from maghrébine immigration in Bobigny, or in other suburbs, to determine if they have specific behaviour to them and different from that of young people French of stump, is a difficult task. The phenomenon of no registration on the electoral rolls and that of abstention are not specific to these young people, but, there is a strong conscience which is liveliness to be born. By if elsewhere, even they constitute a potential electorate, the maghrébin vote or Community misses is absent on the political scene, despite their socio-professional and sociocultural characteristics, despite also their attachment to Islam and to the tradition to be identified. These young people seek their place as citizens by following the integration process imposed by French. The girls find the means of facing the external sphere, either in militant in the associative medium, or in the labour market where they succeed better than their brothers

Testo completoThe present thesis deals with the social relationships young people living in suburban areas have between theym or with the other people they meet : others dwellers, dwellers of others residential areas or representatives of territorial or national institutions. Therefore, the purpose is not only to describe the sociabilities of the suburban young people but also to explain what binds theym to the global society through perceptions and actual experiences, and to describe the nature of the social bond which ties young people to others members of french society. The specific place suburban young people have in the social classification builded at the level of the global society governs their conceptions of their social relations. That place creates a "community of experience", a group of common practices and perceptions which unite the young people living the same experiences in the same category, empirically defined by the young people theymselves. Most of the data has come from investigations of about ten different sites and gathered from participatory observations. They have been completed by extensives interviews. More than one hundred people have been met in four years of fieldwork. The data allows one to understand how the social relationships of the young suburban people are organized, between children and parents, between girls and boys, between age-sets, in the groups of young people, between young people and others dwellers of the block, between young people and representatives of the departmental and national institutions like teachers, policemen and social workers, and how distances are created between groups and categories in the french society
Dane, Carole. "L'action sociale et l'avenir de l'Etat-providence : trois politiques sociales sectorielles". Paris, Institut d'études politiques, 1991. http://www.theses.fr/1991IEPP0010.
Testo completoThis thesis, linking public policy to state theory, centers upon decision-making in three areas of social welfare: daycare centers for children 0 to 3 years old, child welfare benefits, and funds to assist families who have temporary difficulties paying their rent. The changes in each sphere are analyzed within the global political, economic and social context of France from 1981 to 1986, a period during which the socialists head the government. In light of the decentralization, a major reform adopted in March 1982, modifying the roles of central authorities and of local officials, the various policy decisions are studied at the national level and in one "departement" (one of the 95 main administrative divisions of metropolitan France), Seine Saint-Denis, where the communist party holds power. 3 due primarily to the economic and social crisis, to the liberal offensive, and to the very nature of the governing process, the initial objectives of the left are revised and lowered with significant budgetary restrictions. The effects are felt in all three policy areas, but there persists a continual effort to promote new forms of social action and to fight against poverty

Testo completoThis PhD. thesis aims at deconstructing the invisibility of occupational cancer risk in the department of Seine-Saint-Denis, this risk being to degrade one’s health condition through occupational cancer. Because it is not visibly identifiable, such a risk is underestimated in the department, despite having some of the highest mortality rates in the Île-de-France region. A geohistory of the department's industrialisation reveals the links between the aggressiveness of these pathologies and the local industrial history. It appears that the worksites' pathogenicity is an acceptable historical feature of the territorial construction, generating continuous cycles of environmental and occupational exposures. Former pathogenic sites continue to expose their users even after they stopped working there. The cycles are reinforced by the sites' invisibility and pathogenicity. Deindustrialisation erases work sites, while the way archives are preserved, and the selective industrial heritage strategy, further weaken the memory of pathogenic activities. Industrial statistics databases, meant to fill such gaps, lack comprehensiveness and seldom make the link between the activities – even past ones – and their impacts. Lastly, the invisibility characteristic of the risk is structural even within the initiatives which try to reveal it. GISCOP 93 data on occupational cancers are subjected to confidentiality, while the residents' actions to denounce a site' pathogenicity are focused on the environmental aspect of cancer risk, much more accessible than the occupational one

Testo completoThis research aims at shedding light on the processes at work in the compensation procedures of occupational disease (OD) in the case of cancer patients falling in the expertise of the Regional Committees for the Recognition of Occupational Diseases (CRRMP), also called complementary system. It first seeks to explore the historical foundations of the French system for OD compensation and to understand the dynamics of compensation for work-related cancers. Then it looks at practices of the complementary system by analyzing the procedures which have been carried out for 65 patients suffering from cancer. In a qualitative approach, it examines three successive steps implemented: first, the expertise of a public health system of surveillance of occupational cancers in Seine-Saint-Denis, the GISCOP93, which led to the reporting of these OD cases; then, the medical and administrative investigation by the French Health Insurance Institution which decides the referral to the Committee; and at last, the medical expertise of the Committee. The analysis continues with the study of contentious actions before the Court of social security affairs. The framework highlights the logics of the different actors underlying decision of rejection and recognition. It shows a high variability of results according to the expertises as well as a significant impact of the health status of patients. The elements of variability concern both professional compensation given to the patients, different interpretations of the scope of compensation system, but also the type of carcinogens qualified in careers by the different actors of the procedure
