In the knowledge economy, academic and research institutions are more and more oftenly solicited to stimulate the valorisation of the research results. In this point of view, one of their missions is based upon the creation of new technology based firms (NTBFs). Nevertheless, the esperience shows that to transform a researcher into an entrepreneur, a public good into a private good, and an idea into a competitive organization, all this requires a specific support structure combining idiosyncratic resources dedicated to the accompaniment and to the assistance of this entrepreneurship considered as cognitive. In this perspective, in 1999 were created in France the Public Business Incubators wich are organised into selective and learning poles. Their characteristic as organisational innovation resides in their capacity to become places of interaction for diversified formal and tacit knowledge, stemming from experience or institutional, industrial and financial networks, mobilized to bring expertise and advice adapted to the complexity created by each "accompanied" project. By reducing the squandering of the research due to an adapted orientation of the NTBFs into regard to the market, these intermediation systems constitute a fertile ground bringing the multiplication of innovating projects and better chance to succeed for the full benefit of the economy and society
Debbi, Ali. "Les enjeux de l'émergence des innovations managériales dans les villes : le cas de l'adoption des indicateurs de performance". Pau, 2008. http://www.theses.fr/2008PAUU2005.
The public performance evaluation raises various conceptual and methodological questions. Indeed, we observe advances in the evaluation processes of public policies, whereas in practice, the emergence of performance indicators and measurement systems reveals implementation difficulties. Our work describes "the difficult emergence", and highlights the constraints of the adoption of these indicators in cities. From a systemic point of view, and being based on a survey carried out into the practices of French cities, our results show the hierarchy of difficulties which prevent the development of performance indicators. The constraints related to personal and cultural factors are strongly present. We thus show, from the institutional point of view, that a weak support and incentive of the partners and citizens incite condition cities not to develop the IP. Lastly, we show the negative effect of the specificities of local public action's complexity on the emergence of these managerial innovations

"The whale has nothing to learn from plankton", this is how one could summarize the approach of the large groups vis-a-vis startups during the 20th century... However, following the 2008 crisis, the innovation policy of large groups integrates an approach to startups. The rapid pace of business evolution is stretching typical large corporation strategies. Hence, large corporations must seek to adopt an agile approach; borrowed from the startup approach. Rather than changing their own playbook; large groups aim to embrace open innovation as a way to evolve and meet any new business context. As a matter of fact, startups and large corporations have opposed strategies: startups are looking for product-market fit and exponential growth whereas large corporations are focused on optimization and profitability development. Yet, large corporations propose more and more open innovation plans targeting startups. In this thesis, we propose an analysis of the current practices in the corporate world to assess this apparent paradox. Thus, our central research question is: How to show the adequation between the needs of a startup and an open innovation plan of a large corporation by proposing a framework for a systematic and exhaustive analysis of the relationships between large corporations and startups? • What are the startups' needs? Are they evolving as the startup becomes more mature? • How to design tools for a systematic and exhaustive understanding of the open innovation plans and the support provided? • Is there an approach to identify the adequation between startup's needs and large corporation supports? We propose a maturity-grid-based framework to analyze the expected added value of open innovation measures proposed by large corporations. We build our grid on two scales: 1) on the type of engagement and relationships between large corporations and startups; 2) on the domains that the development of a startup should consider under the lens of the new ISO standards on innovation management ISO56000 series. We implement this framework for the French ecosystem (CAC 40 companies) with French startups survey and interviews of large corporations out of CAC 40 group. Finally, we validate our approach and findings with external stakeholders to our research. We have sketched several aspects of the large companies and startups interactions. Such interactions will increase in the near future, leading to new modes of cooperation especially after COVID-19 crisis. This work could serve as a basis for their future study

The thesis puts forth an empirical methodology to study the link between modes of knowledge production and innovation, based on a functional (basic research, applied research and development) and organisational (internal research, external research) analysis of RD activities. To do so, it uses survey data on RD and innovation at the firm level in order to estimate through appropriate econometric models both the link between firm size and RD modes, and the relationship between RD strategies and innovation in the pharmaceutical industry in France. The main results show that the RD components increase non-linearly and less than proportionally with the size of the firm. Moreover, small and medium-sized firms are not significantly different from big firms in the production of original innovations. The different RD modes contribute to innovation in complementary ways

This thesis addresses the issue of return migration, in the unusual terms of knowledge transfer through business creation, which may have the potential to drive innovation from the host to the home country, in the event that the expatriation of skilled migrant, for the purpose of achieving higher qualification in a comparatively more developed country, may be an opportunity for this migrant to master knowledge or know-how beneficial to value added businesses development in its country of origin. Our work also aims to provide guidance on formulating appropriate approach for mobilizing diaspora entrepreneurship to promote economic growth and development (that could, for example, be in harmony with the Moroccan national plan for industrial emergence) through recommendations, based on critical review of the theoretical and empirical literature, supported by an original field study and its formal analysis results, using an hypothetico-deductive approach, associated with econometric modeling for predictive purposes by simulations. In an attempt to contribute to fill the lack of studies, like ours, that take the challenge of making use of (open-ended) qualitative variables richer –for a deeper understanding of the subject– but also more complex to treat and interpret than quantitative variables. So, we study a portion of the Moroccan diaspora of France and its degree of contribution to the socio-economic development of Morocco, through its entrepreneurial potential, that may be synonymous with greater added value in this “developing” country thanks to the unique qualities of this portion. The problem statement, or thesis, has indeed as target population: graduates & students originating from Morocco who prepare or have completed graduate studies and /or have a professional qualification acquired in France, and whose return project may or may not be associated with starting a business in Morocco. The aim is the study of return linked to the probable intention to undertake a business project, and therefore the examination of explanatory variables that could affect, positively or negatively, this decision and/or choice, by identifying its incentives and brakes through the analysis of a representative sample that will allow us to highlight motivations and constraints, but also the opportunities that present themselves to a candidate for return who is possibly bearer or not of an innovative business creation project in Morocco

Life sciences noticed important technological developments during the last decades. Some promising examples, developed in the 90's and 2000's, were mammals cloning, animal and vegetal transgenesis and the therapeutic stem cells. The specialized literature of the life science domain is rich on technical-experimental publications and despite the technical difficulty still present, the authors are optimistic about their commercial issue. These technological advances induced the emergence of a new life science industry where the companies are knowledge intensive and highly specialised. Despite the innovative character and the development of a new market of high added value, the companies of this sector often face economic difficulties. We analysed this recent industry under the managerial point of view aiming to understand the difficulties presented to the managers. Little concern about these problems is available in the specialised literature. In general the technologies are treated individually as an almost unique entity. Under this context it is currently impossible to develop a general overview enabling to study general aspects of this industry. In this aim we proceeded to design a generical model that could allow discussing the managerial characteristics of the industry. This designing effort was necessary to understand the general difficulties met by the companies specialised in these recent technologies. Thereafter the concept can be used to propose managerial improvements. The C-K Theory was employed to structure and translate available information in order to make them available for the design of the model. The data was collected under a case study methodology, as described by Eisenhardt (1989). The existence of a rich panel of recent technologies in this domain justifies the need to develop the concept from a unique extreme case, especially affected by managerial difficulties: the case of the equine cloning. The thesis arises from a partnership work between the association “ le Groupement des Amis des Parcs Naturels Régionaux du Sud-Est ” (GAPSE) and the “Savoie Mont Blanc ” University. It was made within the CIFRE agreement (Industrial agreement of learning/training by research). The PhD focuses on the participatory component of the Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) in the regional nature parks in the south-east of France. The study relies on the feedback and the analysis of the participatory action research program called “L’Eau entre mémoire et devenir” (“Water between memory and future”), which has been created in 2008 by the GAPSE. Based on a survey methodology of key actors, the thesis identifies around thirty participatory actions under the IWRM. The census and analysis of these actions and of their implementation conditions led to build a dynamic model about the participatory approach of IWRM.We examine the regional nature parks status, as news water territories, beyond the narrower confines of watershed-based management, on the basis of a thorough and integrated analysis of actors’ interactions. This study shows that these territories can generate innovative participatory actions going beyond just the institutional conciliation scheme, based on a representative system. These actions arise despite the legislative change, due to a territorial reform, which restrict water prerogatives of regional nature parks. However, these voluntary initiatives implemented by the territorial authorities, associations or citizen collective organizations are still disparate and lack of coherence and coordination between them. The public action has to deal with a diversity of actors and actions with various objectives. The real issue becomes citizen participatory initiatives articulation. This PhD tries to answer to this challenge by proposing a methodological guide about the IWRM implementation, based on the regional nature parks feedbacks

Since the French law of the hospital, patients, health and territory (HSPT), the healthcare institutions have shown their interest for a better healthcare provision. The use of philosophies and process improvement techniques inspired by the new public management was seen as a way to increase the quality of care and reduce the length of hospital stays. Telemedicine is a kind of remote medical practice based on information technology and communication which can be considered as an innovation process in order to improve the healthcare delivery system. Despite the interest shown by the French public hospitals in implementing the telemedicine, success factors as well as barriers influencing its implementation need to be developed. By this work, we try to provide some answers to this problem by a qualitative research in the public healthcare sector

The highly sensitive domain of services delivery to persons is mostly under the command of powerful NGO’s managing institutions and professional services with high efficiency. Meanwhile, the state which is the main financial source of these institutions has initiated through regulations a movement of organizational modernization which leads to extremely controversial changes in interventions, in representations, in strategies of collective actions, among trades and professions as well as in organizational structures. This development, present in the regulation of April 24, 1996, for the health domain, and the law of January 2nd, 2002, for the medico-social domain, implies that the professional domain be able to formulate innovative solutions, especially with regard to the evaluation of professional actions, and to the on-going improvement of the quality of services. In a context of a global crisis concerning the ways of managing resources, organizational innovations are conceived according to an approach centering on work autonomy and follow-up. Problems of communication and organization overhaul, of professional discourses and stylistics, and other mini-cultural issues are analyzed through a method of participant-observation in order to understand professional mutations taking place since the law of January 2nd, 2002, and of the regulation of April 24th, 1996

Although much is expected of them, inhabitants, referred to as “citizens” in technocratic programs, are still abstract “entities” with oft underestimated psychosocial underpinnings. Nonetheless, adopting the appropriate behaviours in the case of an event is related to a balance between actionable individual resources and the institutional measures individuals are able to take. As such, this thesis aims to measure inhabitants’ capacities with more finesse, namely by mobilising territorialised social innovation with regard to a specific risk: flash floods in south-east France. To this effect, an interdisciplinary survey was conducted (geography of risks, environmental psychology and social design) by associating empirical and experimental data. A series of interviews (36 managers, 4 river unions, 29 victims) and questionnaires (689) provided better understanding of their respective visions of risk management. Managers were lucid but powerless in the face of multiple flaws in public policy, whereas inhabitants displayed a large gap between their behavioural intentions and their risk-related knowledge. These results led us to conduct a creative workshop in Sauve (Gard, France) that confirmed the potential collective action from the start can have in terms of appropriation by inhabitants. The conclusions drawn from this work led us to question the reality of inhabitants’ involvement and to identify ways to encourage evolution of the state-centred approaches that are still preferred today, despite the progressive decline of the welfare state, which adds another degree of complexity

Water, which is one of our most important natural resources, stops at neither political nor artificial boundaries. This is why it is necessary to treat it globally instead of the present situation, where water is managed nationally and regionally. A possible solution for this is an international unified water management system, and effective information is a key requirement for this to happen. Maps contain visual information which is independent of language, and map visualization is an important tool of communication. Therefore I have been comparing two European Union countries (France and Hungary) to understand the processes of map communication in relation to EU regulations. The first objective of my research has been the examination of how far the harmonization of map communication has been achieved in the European directives, particularly concerning water-related directives. Secondly, to the extent that harmonization has not occurred, I have investigated into the reasons why this has happened and whether there are any solutions to this issue. Effectiveness of map-based communication is closely related to uniform data systematization. This is why I have endeavored to discover and develop a harmonizationhelping system for visualization. Finally, I have examined whether, in this legally-regulated research environment, there is the possibility of innovative rather than traditional map representations. As results I gave an overview of the European directives and projects, and I examined the relations between them. At the same time I determined the role of the cartographer concerning the directives. I created an examining system based on the rules of the French and Hungarian thematic cartography. I made certain that the directives are necessary but not sufficient conditions of harmonized map communication. The necessary condition of this is a uniform and harmonized system of thematic data. I verified that the maps created by existing processes do not meet the claims of the three different user circles aimed at by the WFD. I created my own communicative model for maps associated with water after studying Robinson-Petchenik-and Kolácný’s communicative models. I took into consideration every element of map-forming, which may have an influence on the decision made based on the map. I developed innovative prototypes for certain types of WFD maps to the general public and decision-makers

The Technical Centre of Mechanical Engineering is one of the centres of technological competence in the Mechanical Industry. Its objective is to identify the process of management of the technology needed for its activity in innovation support. After having characterised mechanical industry in a meso economic approach, we propose a model of activity of the technological competence centre, illustrated by the Cetim example. On this basis, innovation management is analysed as a formalised operational process of the innovation support activity in the geographical and technological territory of the technological competence centre, using tools and processes of technology management. The process from idea to finished product is split into 3 steps: idea to object conception, feasibility regarding a first market target and industrialisation. This sequential model was completed by a global model which linked strategy to the implementation of an innovated project.R&D process is composed of 4 steps of a repeated cycle: technological marketing, management of the project portfolio, R&D production and enhanced value. Indicators help in evaluating performance on the 4 axes of the activity model using codification of innovation projects in the information system. This can be also used to follow core competence evolution

Nowadays, traditional economic models are questioned by researchers. It appeared relevant to analyze if social innovation can be considered as a lever for change. Innovation centers are facing an uncertain context, as there appears to be less financial involvement from the state, a real transformation of their missions and a potential public policy reform. We’re soliciting the two existing visions of social innovation. As a result, it represents an answer to social needs and to generate positive impacts. Its process mobilizes local heterogeneous actors, which are forming networks and sharing resources, in order to create a common project. So, we’re formulating an evaluation grid on seven criteria. Then, to offer a new model for innovation centers we’re drawing on the social and solidarity economy business model. This field seems to be conducive for social innovations development. We’re building the epistemological (pragmatic constructivism) and methodological frameworks (exploratory qualitative research, abductive logic, multiple-case study) for the research. For our results, seven dimensions of the social innovation are spotlighted in innovations centers functioning. The social and solidarity economy business model reveals mobilization and solidarity issues. We’re recommending to initiate communities of practice, an innovation centers’ development focused on a common destiny, a democratic management. Finally, we’re suggesting that innovation centers should be more committed in a sustainable territorial attractiveness, so they can be a part of the local value-chain, by considering the territory as a common good

The subject of this thesis consists in an analysis of an experiment that took place over the course of two years, at the kindergarten level, in association with « Philosoph’art », an organization from Lyon. In this research, we interrogate the status of innovation of this experience and we focus on the posture of the quizmaster during workshops with philosophical content as well as artistic projects. We closely examine what sets apart such experiences from those already in use in philosophy with children and artistic practices. Furthermore, we will explain the set up of this project and the conditions in which it has been made transferable for use in Lebanon

This thesis aims to understand the process of articulation between HRM and innovation in SMEs. We choose to break with the traditional approach of highlighting the issues of strategic alignment between these two elements. Based on the lessons learned from the exploratory prestudy carried out in four innovative SMEs, we opt for a relational perspective through gift. The analysis is therefore based on the theory of gift exchange, combined with an interpretative framework on HRM in SMEs.A multi-case study, based on 52 semi-structured interviews, observations and documentary analysis, was conducted on three innovative SMEs. We lead to a data structuring and a processual modeling according to the ‘Gioia’ method. The results show that the articulation between HRM and innovation in SMEs, through gift exchange relationships between actors, is based on a process consisting of three stages: unleashing gifts, mobilizing gifts and rethinking gifts. Finally, we raise the awareness of owner-managers and HR relays to the following three elements: the evolution of the organizational context, the role of the intense social ties and the mobilized HRM practices

France is late in comparison with other Europeans countries in public reading matter. This delay is characterized by an inadequate number of public libraries in France, and, also, by the situation of the French network public libraries. Since the end of 60, France is developing a courageous public reading policy. Data processing is going to reveal itself a good solution at the modernization of the public library management. After some first try, in France, at the beginning of 1980, appear new software solutions for the public library management system. Our experience with the software called Tobias and the data point network computer called arcnet, conduct us to think about the problems consequent to the introduction of data processing in the public libraries in France. Our problematic conducts us to analyze the technological mutation and organizational modifications engendered by the utilization of the new communication technologies

The globalization and the competition compel firms an effort to change costs structure in order to reach startegics goals. The activity-based cost management are an interesting instrumentation ; but it must well implemented. The goal of this research is understanding why French bank's are difficulties in order to implement an activity-based cost system to offer strategic control one's services. It's a contribution to work out a theory on the adoption and the implementation of activity-based cost management. This study, both conceptual and empirical, work out a theory, based on the translation theory, in order to understand the slow and difficult diffusion of activity-based cost management. Our theory use the concepts of sociology, economy and information systems. .

Soltim-Proval, the french leader software maker for personal insurance, must accomplish the merger of the two companies and adopt a communication approach to establish the new entity’s fame and image for its target market. Soltim-Proval is set against several questions of communication concerning the concept of identities, brand, accompaniment of change, image and communications approach, to be able to act in consistency with its stakeholders’ speeches. In an evolving economic environment, the “know well” being as important as the ”know-how” for the B-to-B market and the reputation playing a business-critical part

To foster product innovation performance (PIP), some authors have called for directing firms towards learning organization (LO) culture. Despite the abundance of theoretical developments assuming the existence of positive relationships between LO and PIP, empirical studies on the subject remain scarce. This thesis seeks to fill these gaps in the literature by empirically assessing the impact LO culture has on PIP. We use structural equations modeling with partial least square (PLS) approach to test our research hypotheses on a sample of 100 biotechnology firms in France. The results show the validity of measurement scales of the LO and the PIP in the studied context. We also showed that the higher the level of learning organization, the greater the degree of product innovation performance. This result is particularly true for firms that are active in red biotechnology, with higher export intensity and operating in turbulent environments. We also confirmed that the capacity for organizational learning mediates the LO-PIP link. More specifically, the LO is an antecedent of organizational learning and this latter is an antecedent of the PIP. So a company that wishes to have successful innovations has interest in improving its learning process. This improvement is possible using the LO model especially since we have shown that more a company tend to adopt this model, it is more likely to generate double-loop learning, and it is more likely to have a balanced level of PIP

This is the analysis of a regional project for the development of integrated fruit production pest control in order to explain the problems of circulating alternative techniques to the intensive models. Introducing the impact of the resource, a phytoseid predatory mite which is the pest control mainstay, is the means to consider the technical strategy from a double point of view. First, as a protection strategy which mobilizes a selection of identified resources in the orchard field, implying constraints that should be seen as a means of improvement (the intervention of the phytoseid predatory mite), and secondly, as a distribution strategy that mobilizes the levers of change in order to bring about the adoption of the new technical logic. The margins of progress for technical adaptation are evaluated by using pest control against the proliferation of acarids as an indicator. The choice of the resource-species is validated by research, but control improvement can rely on various ecological levers of the orchard universe dynamics, whereas these are taken into account as dissociated elements in the technical representation. The object of circulating technique, and having it taken inti account as a strategy for the network, induces one to simplify the message circulated. This is one with the object of making it easier for producers to have access to it, but also to obtain an agreement on a unified strategy on the part of the operators of regional production organizations. The fact that farmers' various practices and needs have been taken into consideration, explains why an identical system of evaluation between resources and constraints does not meet the diversity of appropriation modes, which are links up with the concepts of the profession, and leads to under valuation of the dynamics of different environments. The interpretation showing the difficulty there is an articulating between vertical approaches by product groups and transversal approaches of distribution and precautions is confirmed by the analysis of experiences made in other fields. Analysis of the levers of change on the part of orchard growers shows that they need to make their own evaluation of the levers that con be mobilized in order to become autonomous

In a context of contemporary reflections on the sustainability of urban water utilities, we focus on Lyonnaise des Eaux’s corporate social responsibility strategy as a contribution to putting into words and implementing sustainable development in this sector. This work aims at analyzing on the one hand the causes, processes, goals of Lyonnaise des Eaux CSR strategy and understanding on the other hand the impact of these strategies on the company’s territorial embeddedness. CSR's territorial impetus is expressed via a global-local interaction process leading to the regionalization of Lyonnaise des Eaux CSR strategy and, its local embodiment through sustainable development projects. Based on the example of water management in the Bordeaux metropolis, we have studied and conducted two sustainable development projects within the company, one focused on water poverty management and the other focused on sustainable management of domestic water consumption. Exploring the feasibility conditions of these CSR projects highlights the opportunities for the company to meet the challenges of the territory by limiting the impact associated with its business or generate specific resources necessary for its integration into local innovation systems. The territorial approach of corporate responsibility strategy shows that it also appears as a negotiated interface used by Lyonnaise des Eaux for its adaptation and action at different scales

The objective of this research is to study the relation between the technological and organisational changes in the French hotel company’s cases. The approach underlines the displacement of the deterministic relations between Technology and Organization towards a relation of mutual influence. The main question concerns the study of the joint evolution of the IT and the organization in the hotel companies, by bringing to light the role of their human resources. These last ones indeed present specificities in terms of skills and qualifications which could be at the origin of the mutual influence between Organization and Technology. The empirical approach of collection and analysis of the data is qualitative, namely through an in-depth study inside the Accor Company in France

The phenomenon of modernisation within a local authority is characterised by the adoption and adaptation of management tools originating in the private sector. The absence of theoretical framework has meant that authorities had to experiment to adapt to the environment and establish their legitimacy. We monitored over a six year period a local authority which had adopted this procedure. This enabled us to highlight the importance of pragmatism and the emergence of systemic analysis. Management control is the tool that represents best modernisation for such a local authority as nantes. We noted that the intoduction of management tools in that strucutre offered a means of measuring activity as well as of opening of the internal communication system. In nantes, the instrumental aspect dominated during the first modernisation phase. We also noted that management control developed more rapidly in those sectors where an objective contract was being implemented. As a result, nantes decided to set up responsability centres, defining the objectives and delegations of responsability, to speed up the modernisation process. After reviewieng this experiment, we are in a position to say that it is possible to model the change, working from invariants which arise from experimentation in test activity sectors. A correctly modelled modernisation process results in improved personnal involvement and limits resistance to change

At the beginning of this millennium, the technical convergence is about to born. Nevertheless, how this opportunity can be transformed into innovative services by a multidivisional group, competing within the telecommunication industry. More precisely, how can we develop strategies of innovation, whose implementation requires the cooperation between the divisions of the group? This research, conducted within France Telecom, leads to two main results: Cooperation between divisions to generate new offers is multiform: It involves different kinds of divisions (product divisions, R&D division and distribution divisions), different resources. It raises different assets and is limited by different brakes. The multidivisional structure of the group limits the implementation of some strategies of innovation. This limit can be broken thanks to the coordination between the top management, middle managers from the R&D division and the distribution divisions and staff members from the distribution divisions. The role of these three different actors differs from the nature of the strategy of innovation: autonomous or deliberate. This thesis concludes that the development of strategies of innovation within multidivisional groups, whose structure is similar to France Telecom's one, can be achieved if the relation between R&D and distribution divisions and products divisions changes

Is it possible for the organisational change process of a company in the defence sector, evolving from a regalian model to a financial model, to be entirely free from the specific and contextual constraints imposed by a principal, when said principal comes from the political and diplomatic arena ? To come to terms with this issue, this thesis calls upon the writings of MINZBERG, PESQUEUX, LEWIN. These concepts are thereafter compared with a longitudinal case study of the normative continuities and transformations incurred in the innovative function of GIAT-Industries from 1971 to 2001. Taking the confrontation between the theory and the longitudinal case study as a starting point, the thesis analyses the dynamics of oscillation between these two archetypal models : the regalian model (inheritance) and the financial model (intention). By way of a conclusion, it proposes a third dialogical process-financial model and discusses the utilisation of the network concept within a European framework

The history and institutionalisation of rugby in France has led to the establishment of a set of rules that make it possible to define, and thus make possible, the practice of rugby. These rules focus on the game, the establishment of a ranking, but also on the status of clubs and their interaction. The institutionalisation of rugby has made it possible for major changes in the way rugby is played, with the creation of federations and the transition into professionalism in 1995. After a century of resolute opposition to the idea that rugby could shift into an era of professional practice, the institutions in place finally accepted the need to change from the growing pressure from players (media, sponsors and players) to professionalise. The challenge of such a change is that rugby can finally be considered as an economic activity in its own right. Professionalisation has led to players no longer considering "rugby" in the same way. Formerly deeply rooted in amateurism, rugby has now become an essential support for a profitable entertainment product. The sports structures have adapted to professionalism by adapting their statutes but also, above all else, by defining their new business model. In analysing club strategy, maximizing sports performance is a key element, impacting the ranking institution to which the club belongs. The clubs, in an effort to optimize their business model, have gradually integrated the use of technological tools and the exploitation of the resulting data. This work attempts to analyse the factors of adoption and appropriation of technology in the context of club performance, within the elite league in France: the Top14

This research work deals with the fundamental principles of innovation, and mostly aims at highlighting their sensorial dimension. Its purpose is to put forward a contribution to the management process by situated sensorial scanning. All reviewed theoretical documents dealing with the innovation process underline the limits of a cognitive conception. Conducting a research work for alternative routes leads to situated theories which acknowledge the importance of sensorial capacities and social interactions in a given context. These theories allow a dual vision of the innovation process in both its individual and collective dimensions. The questions of our research work are the following: What are the basis of the innovation process ? What is the contribution of sensorial scanning in the management of this process ? The strategy of this research work is based on the study of a single case, followed by a research-intervention work. The analysis of the data concerning innovation in aromatic industry (the subjective perception of 32 practitioners in 8 businesses), confirms our initial hypothesis. The innovation process is fundamentally sensorial. The research-intervention work in 2 SMEs of the Grasse area allows us to validate our conceptualisation of scanning. We are therefore capable of laying new foundations of the innovation process management thanks to situated sensorial scanning

The particularities of services influence different elements on the innovation process. Although, the characteristics of the sector urge some questions related to research and development (R&D) activities. In this sense, we try to clarify the influences of these particularities in the characterization and definition of the dynamics of its R&D activities. Based on study cases from Brazilian and French university hospitals, this thesis tries to explain four convergent points. First, based on the definition of the product of services as a set of vectors, we propose an association between the dynamic of competences and different methods of knowledge processing, in a systematic way and with the purpose of solving scientific and technological uncertainties. Second, we associated service operations to the vector of technical characteristics. Third, the diversity of actors that compose the guiding forces of these dynamics was analyzed. Finally, some characteristics related to the R&D and innovation process were identified. The results demonstrated that the competences involved in the process of creating and increasing the stock of knowledge have theoretical and practical characteristics, but also organizational and relational ones. These competences, linked to a series of actors, trigger different service operations, which will support the knowledge processing. Therefore, it was possible to discuss some characteristics related to the R&D process and the different models of innovation found

This work is devoted to the study of path creation phenomenon. It takes place in an epistemological framework which stipulates that reality should be apprehended in a processual and a relational mode. In this context, we defend the thesis that path creation is a process where entrepreneurs or established firm aiming at creating new paths, frame controlled resources in a way that it allows them to create legitimacy around the socio-technological design they are sponsoring. This process occurs when a window of opportunity is set during the phase when a generic technology is adjusting to a production technology. The inference of this conceptualization is abductive in a sense that it is built over an exploratory case study on the creation of new techniques to fight against sand encroachment in the south-east of Morocco, and honed by confronting it to a second case study on the creation of a new technological path in e-grocery industry in France by an entrant company, Natoora, whereas the player of mass distribution struggle to find a path

What can the local societies do to adapt themselves in a competitive and unsettled environment, mainly marked by the globalization and the strong development of the information and communication technologies ? How should they act and react to the contemporary changes ? We chose to use the local development to study these questions. Our approach based on the concept of immaterial resources allow us to work with the social interactions at a local level. The study has been carried out in two phases. First the observation of four development projects proved the interest of the immaterial resources. Then an experimentation-based research helped getting a better understanding of the processes at work during the action. The results obtained constitute the basis of the territorial intelligence and propose a new conception of the local action frameworks. In the end this research makes a few suggestions to improve the local development methodology. From a methodological point of view, the work done shows the interest of the experimentation to improve the tools and methods of the researcher

In a high technological context of strong competition, several companies base their strategy on innovation. Without information about new technology developments, competitors' strategy and market size, the decision-making for innovative project becomes more hazardous. So, STMicroelectronics built its strategy on innovation in order to improve the marketing of new products. To support this innovation strategy and to help the decision makers to know all necessary information to a decision-making, the STMicroelectronics Tours site has created a competitive intelligence (CI) team: the Market Intelligence. To support the innovation, the Market Intelligence is organized according to three kind of Intelligence: The Helpful Intelligence which supply information for the most part of employees The Company Area Intelligence which allow to watch the competitors, the customers, the suppliers, etc. The Project Intelligence which consists in the study of complex topics in collaboration with experts. In order to improve the first step of innovation process, the Market Intelligence team has set up a new process: the expert group approach. It was created in order to share and analyze information between experts with the aim of supporting the Management to identify new strategic trends

The business model (or BM) has been popularised by managers since the end of the 1990’s. This notion is much debated within the academic sphere: even if a consensus has been reached with regards to its definition, a debate around its significance, components and its relationhip with strategy remains. We have focused on analysing the articulation between the notions of business models and strategy in the context of major technological change. Through this particular context, we were able to observe many modifications of strategy and business models. Starting from the literature, we suggest a conceptual framework that we have deployed to study eight case-studies of French actors who are positioned in the emergent market of ebook. This empirical study has enabled us to confirm the systemic nature of the BM: on average, a strategic components impacts three components of BM directly and another six indirectly. We also conclude that there is a co-construction process of the business model and the strategy: the strategy impacts the BM almost systematically, and the BM affects strategic components in almost 60% of the cases. The resources and the value network are the components of the BM that affect the strategy most. Thus, our results can contribute towards reflections such as effectuation. We have also observed (that both the company's history and environment have an impact on the BM more than on the strategy (in volumetry). This has led us to broaden the notion of path dependence, but also to nuance the statement that the BM would be different from the strategy due to a slighter sensitivity to the environment. Our results also suggest that the adjustment to technological change differs depending on the characteristics of the actors. We were also interested in a more managerial issue: the distribution of value in the sector. We concluded that the chain upstream value is greater than its downstream counterpart, and that managers will have the greatest difficulties in making the central activity of e-diffusion profitable

The aim of this thesis is to study the categorization process of emerging activities to contribute to the discussion about industries’ creations, especially through technological innovations. Two approaches of categorization in the literature have been identified: a content approach that focuses on the consequences of the categories and a process-based approach that focuses on the process of categorizing organizations. Both approaches are converging by showing the importance of the concept of boundary for categorization. In terms of methodology, we chose a qualitative approach based on a longitudinal case study on nanotechnologies in France. The results of this research show that two types of processes exist for the categorization of economic activity: the internal process and external process of boundary creation. The internal process is characterized by mutual awareness of common interest between stakeholders of the activity, theorization of knowledge, and claiming for differentiation between stakeholders. The external process is reflected in the efforts of stakeholders to the legitimization of nanotechnologies in the eyes of external audiences. Internal and external processes of boundary creation in the case of nanotechnologies interact and reinforce each other. A typology of three strategies mobilized in the categorization including attachment strategies, distinction strategies and ambiguity strategies, has also been proposed through this study. The thesis provides recommendations towards entrepreneurs to better manage the acceptance of their emerging activity
