Abstract (sommario):
The alternative practice option of association management offers tremendous potential for professional growth and personal satisfaction. Diversity of activity and the opportunity to have a direct impact upon the future of the profession are two major dimensions associated with this growing career option. In total, more than 140 pharmacists have found rewarding career positions in the offices of pharmacy's state and national associations. These pharmacists, serving as chief executive officers and professional staff members, have chosen to serve the profession rather than pursue its actual practice. Their work is important and challenging and serves to have a significant effect on both the profession as a whole and individual pharmacists. A diversity of opportunity is available to the pharmacist aspiring a career in association work. As a chief executive, the pharmacist uses a broad range of administrative skills to help the association achieve its overall mission. Working with the association's elected leadership, the association executive helps establish goals and objectives and pursues their attainment by implementing effective strategies. As professional association staff members, many pharmacists use skills in areas related to law, clinical pharmacy, journalism, education, and public relations to help their associations serve the profession of pharmacy and their individual memberships. The revolutionary changes occurring in health care today are placing an increasing level of demand upon professional associations. Never before have these associations been confronted with more challenges and opportunities. As a result, the opportunities for pharmacist employment in this field are expected to grow. Professionally motivated pharmacists have and will continue to find this alternative practice option to be both professionally and personally rewarding.

Abstract (sommario):
Stuttering priapism entails repeated, distinct episodes of persistent penile erection despite interval periods of detumescence. While individual episodes are acutely treated, overall management of the patient with recurrent priapism focuses on prevention of future incidents. According to American Urological Association (AUA) guidelines, systemic therapy may be used for prevention of priapism — including hormonal agents, baclofen, digoxin, and terbutaline. Other methods of management include selfinjection of sympathomimetic agents and surgical intervention with placement of a penile prosthesis.1 This case report describes long-term use of hormonal therapy in the management of stuttering priapism in a young male.

Abstract (sommario):
The Framework for 21st Century School Nursing Practice™, created by the National Association of School Nurses (NASN), explains school nursing practice, providing guidance, organization, prioritization, and meaning. This is the second article in a series for The Framework for 21st Century School Nursing Practice. This article focuses on case management, one of the practice components in the principle of care coordination. Case management focuses on school nurse support of individual at-risk students and collaborative actions to reduce barriers to their academic success. This article will clarify how the terms care coordination and case management are used in context of the Framework and provide an example to help the reader apply the concept to practice. Washington’s School Nurse Case Management Program will serve as a model. The program outlines evidence for effective practice and shares practical examples of how school nurses can implement case management into their daily work. Any school nurse, no matter how large or small their workload, can provide case management.

Abstract (sommario):
Modern architecture of the world economy is determined not only by the indicators of development of individual national economies and not only by their individual efforts, but also by coordinated efforts of several countries, such as trade agreements. One of such agreements that should lead to freer market relations, fairer trade and sustainable economic growth in the region, better resolution of international disputes, environmental protection, intellectual property protection, etc., is the United States – Mexico – Canada Agreement (USMCA). The aim of this paper is an attempt to analyze the level of global competitiveness of intergovernmental associations (agreements) as influential participants in the international market. To do this, the concepts of “competitive power of the country” and “competitive power of international integration groups” are compared with the concept of firm competitiveness. The competitiveness of the country association was analyzed through the example of the USMCA based on The Global Competitiveness Report 2019 and The Global Competitiveness Index 4.0. used in it. The paper also examines the global challenges and obstacles affecting the level of competitiveness and competitive advantage that each country receives when participating in an international integration agreement. This analysis helps explain real competitive processes in the global economy.

Abstract (sommario):
55 Background: The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) recommends active surveillance (AS) as the primary management option for patients with very low-risk prostate cancer (VLRPC) and an expected survival of <20 years. Factors associated with selection of AS are therefore of clinical importance. We hypothesized that care at a multidisciplinary clinic (MC), where multiple physicians simultaneously review each case, will be associated with increased rates of AS in men with VLRPC, including those with limited life expectancy. Methods: Of 630 patients with low-risk prostate cancer managed at one of three tertiary care centers in Boston, MA in 2009, 274 (43.5%) had VLRPC. Patients were either seen by one or more individual providers in sequential visits (N=178) or at an MC (N=96), in which concurrent consultation with two or more of the following specialties was obtained: urology, medical oncology, and radiation oncology. Results: Patients seen at an MC were more likely to select AS than those seen by individual providers (64% vs 30%, p<.001), an association which remained significant on multivariable logistic regression (OR=4.16, p<.001), see Table. When the analysis was limited to patients with an expected survival of <20 years based on the 2007 Social Security Life Table, this association remained highly significant (OR=5.19, p<.001). Conclusions: Multidisciplinary care is strongly associated with selection of AS, adherence to NCCN guidelines, and minimization of over-treatment in patients with VLRPC. [Table: see text]

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractProcrastination is consistently viewed as problematic to academic success and students’ general well-being. There are prevailing questions regarding the underlying and maintaining mechanisms of procrastination which are yet to be learnt. The aim of the present study was to combine different ways to explain procrastination and explore how students’ time and effort management skills, psychological flexibility and academic self-efficacy are connected to procrastination as they have been commonly addressed separately in previous studies. The data were collected from 135 students who participated in a voluntary time management and well-being course in autumn 2019. The results showed that students’ ability to organize their time and effort has the strongest association with procrastination out of the variables included in the study. Psychological flexibility also has a strong individual role in explaining procrastination along with time and effort management skills. Surprisingly, academic self-efficacy did not have a direct association with procrastination. Interestingly, our findings further suggest that time and effort management and psychological flexibility are closely related and appear to go hand in hand and, thus, both need to be considered when the aim is to reduce procrastination. The implications of the findings are further discussed.

Abstract (sommario):
Objective: Hypothyroidism is a well-documented consequence of lithium treatment. Less well known is a possible association between lithium therapy and hyperthyroidism. This may have clinical implications as rapid changes in thyroid hormones may worsen a person’s affective state, while symptoms of hyperthyroidism can mimic those of mania. We therefore systematically reviewed the published literature for evidence of lithium-induced hyperthyroidism. Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase and CINAHL for articles where individuals developed biochemically confirmed hyperthyroidism (with or without clinical symptoms), while on lithium therapy for an affective illness. We included case reports, case series, cross-sectional, case control and cohort studies. Results: We included 52 studies, 39 of which were individual case reports and 3 were case series. There were 10 cross-sectional or case control or cohort studies. All the research designs suggested an association between the prescription of lithium and hyperthyroidism. However, these findings were limited by the quality of the included studies, small number of participants and the general lack of either a clear temporal relationship or dose response. Conclusion: Hyperthyroidism is an uncommon side-effect of lithium compared to hypothyroidism but may have clinical implications. However, large prospective studies are required to clarify this association and to further inform the management of patients treated with lithium where hyperthyroidism occurs.

Abstract (sommario):
There is no guarantee that people will follow their professional code of ethics. Large number of violation occurred in almost every organization. In this study we argued that commitment toward code of ethics, which is related to ethical feelings, is imperative to predict whether a person will obey their professional code. This study predicted that commitment to the code of ethics is determined by individual morality (i.e. moral judgment and moral maturity), and religious feeling. The survey was conducted through online questionnaire to Indonesian employees from various sectors and undergraduate students. The analysis revealed that moral judgment cannot predict commitment toward code of ethics. The result showed that religious feeling and moral maturity have positive association with commitment to code of ethics. In addition, these two concepts also produced favorable effect on moral judgment. Discussion, implication, and limitation are provided in the final part of article.

Abstract (sommario):
The study of individual social relationships and group structure provides insights into a species’ natural history and can inform management decisions for animals living in human care. The Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education (GRACE) center provides permanent sanctuary for a group of 14 Grauer’s gorillas (Gorilla beringei graueri), a critically endangered and poorly studied subspecies of the genus gorilla, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. We monitored the association patterns of the gorillas at GRACE over eight months and here describe their individual relationships and group structure via multiple social network statistics. The group was highly connected but associations between individuals were weak on average. Social network metrics describe that an adult female was the most gregarious and socially central individual within the group. In fact, adult females were the most gregarious and socially central on average. Group level association patterns were significantly correlated over the study period and across observation types, suggesting the group was socially stable during the eight month study period. The data collected in this study were done so by GRACE caregivers as part of their daily husbandry routine and provided important insights into this group’s behavior, ultimately informing on their care, welfare and future release considerations. The methodological approaches implemented here are easily scalable to any primate sanctuary or care facility seeking to use data to inform husbandry and management procedures. Lastly, our study is the first social network analysis to be conducted on Grauer’s gorillas and provides tentative insights into the behavior of this poorly studied subspecies. Though more research is needed to evaluate if the findings here are reflective of this subspecies’ natural history or the idiosyncrasies of the group.

Abstract (sommario):
Introduction: Information on use of palliative care services among individuals with Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy is scant despite the clearly documented need. Methods: We examined associations between uptake of palliative care services by 233 males with Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy aged 12 and older for both caregiver and affected male characteristics using the Muscular Dystrophy Surveillance Tracking and Research Network baseline interview. Results: Ninety-one percent of caregivers (213/233) used at least one palliative care service. Case management had the highest frequency of use (59%). Use of palliative care was more frequently associated with the characteristics of affected males, as were some individual palliative care services. Utilization of six individual services differed among Muscular Dystrophy Surveillance Tracking and Research Network sites. While research suggests that pain is a frequent problem in Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy, only 12.5% reported use of pain management services. Discussion: Although palliative care use among families of males with Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy is high overall, there is much variability in use of individual services. Use of palliative care is driven by disease experience in the affected male. Many of the care recommendations for these individuals highlight the importance for early involvement of palliative care professionals.

Abstract (sommario):
Objective The association between benzodiazepine use and the risk of cognitive impairment or dementia has been controversial. Our study aims to detect this association through a case/non-case method using the Korea Institute of Drug Safety & Risk Management-Korea adverse event reporting system database (KIDS-KD) between 2007 and 2016.Methods Cases were adverse event (AE)-pairs with suspected cognitive impairment or dementia. 10 non-cases were matched to each case on age and sex. Exposure was defined as use of benzodiazepines, including long-, intermediate-, and short-acting benzodiazepine. We conducted multivariable logistic regression analyses to estimate reporting odds ratios (ROR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI).Results Of the 1,086,584 AE-pairs, 887 cases were suspected AE-pairs of cognitive impairment or dementia, and 775,444 non-cases were selected. Benzodiazepine use was associated with increased AE-pairs of cognitive impairment or dementia when assessed using those with certain, probable, and/or possible in causality assessments (ROR=2.69, 95% CI=1.66–4.38). Higher ROR estimates were shown in female (2.33, 1.48–3.67) and in those with polypharmacy (2.20, 1.35–3.57). Dementia safety profiles were inconsistent across individual benzodiazepine components. Conclusion These results suggest the potentially increased association between benzodiazepine use and cognitive impairment or dementia in female and those with polypharmacy. Inconsistent safety profiles of benzodiazepine components should be further investigated.

Abstract (sommario):
Acanthamoeba keratitis (AK) is a potentially blinding infection caused by protozoa found worldwide. The topical application of biguanides and diamidines is the most common anti-amoebic treatment for AK. In this study, we hypothesized that geographical location and socioeconomic status influence the management and treatment of AK. To test this hypothesis, we analyzed case reports and series of Acanthamoeba eye infections from different geographic regions to evaluate the association between diagnosis, treatment, and outcome worldwide. This study looked specifically at case reports of patients with diagnosed AK using bibliographic databases such as PubMed, BioMed Central, and Google Scholar, which were searched between 30 April 1990 and 1 May 2022. The search identified 38 eligible studies that provided data for 60 clinical cases of AK. The results indicated that current standard treatments are effective if the infection is identified early and that delays can lead to clinical symptoms, including permanent visual opacities. There was evidence suggesting an association between the treatment regimen practiced in certain geographic regions and treatment outcome. Patient access to medical facilities and economic background also had an influence on the treatment and outcome of AK. Further analysis of more case reports can expand our understanding of the influence of specific demographic and individual patient characteristics on the effectiveness and accessibility of AK medicines. Additionally, using a living systematic review approach to incorporate emerging evidence will reveal the relative merits of different treatment regimens for AK and outcomes.

Abstract (sommario):
IntroductionLow and varied quality of care has been demonstrated for childhood illnesses in low-income and middle-income countries. Some quality improvement strategies focus on increasing patient engagement; however, evidence suggests that patients demanding medicines can favour the selection of resistant microbial strains in the individual and the community if drugs are inappropriately used. This study examines the effects on quality of care when patients demand different types of inappropriate medicines.MethodsWe conducted an experiment where unannounced standardised patients (SPs), locally recruited individuals trained to simulate a standardised case, present at private clinics. Between 8 March and 28 May 2019, 10 SPs portraying caretakers of a watery diarrhoea childhood case scenario (in absentia) conducted N=200 visits at 200 private, primary care clinics in Kenya. Half of the clinics were randomly assigned to receive an SP demanding amoxicillin (an antibiotic); the other half, an SP demanding albendazole (an antiparasitic drug often used for deworming), with other presenting characteristics the same. We used logistic and linear regression models to assess the effects of demanding these inappropriate medicines on correct and unnecessary case management outcomes.ResultsCompared with 3% among those who did not demand albendazole, the dispensing rate increased significantly to 34% for those who did (adjusted OR 0.06, 95% CI 0.02 to 0.22, p<0.0001). Providers did not give different levels of amoxicillin between those demanding it and those not demanding it (adjusted OR 1.73, 95% CI 0.51 to 5.82). Neither significantly changed any correct management outcomes, such as treatment or referral elsewhere.ConclusionPrivate providers appear to account for both business-driven benefits and individual health impacts when making prescribing decisions. Additional research is needed on provider knowledge and perceptions of profit and individual and community health trade-offs when making prescription decisions after patients demand different types of inappropriate medicines.Trial registration numbersAmerican Economic Association Registry (#AEARCTR-0000217) and Pan African Clinical Trial Registry (#PACTR201502000770329).

Abstract (sommario):
Although South Korea introduced the Pollutant Release and Transfer Register system in 1996, there is relatively limited evidence on how socioeconomic status at both individual and municipal levels is associated with exposure to toxic chemicals in Korea because of limited data sources. Using a multi-level negative binomial model, this study examined the socioeconomic status of both individuals and municipalities with a higher level of exposure to carcinogenic emissions from industrial facilities in Gyeonggi province, South Korea. The results reveal that economic minority individuals (national basic livelihood security recipients, unemployed people, and tenants), municipalities with higher percentages of industrial land use, and foreign-born populations had more facilities that produce carcinogenic emissions. While similar findings have been reported by many environmental justice studies conducted in other countries, this is the first Korean case study that reports the relationship between socioeconomic status at both individual and municipal levels and exposure to toxic chemicals.

Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects have additional technical, financial and regulatory requirements that are not fully addressed by classic project management approaches. Research has been done on individual novel concepts of the CDM, like additionality, but little has been achieved to address an overall CDM project management approach. CDM and project management literature was reviewed and the South African CDM Industry Association was used as a case study to gain insight into an appropriate CDM specific project management strategy. A stage-gate model was subsequently derived to align classic project management approaches with the additional requirements of CDM projects. Further research will, in time, determine the completeness and practicability of the proposed model.

Abstract (sommario):
Background. Factors associated with individual patient-level management of HIV have received minimal attention in sub-Saharan Africa. This study determined the association between support services and cluster of differentiation 4 (CD4) counts among HIV patients attending ART clinic in Ghana. Methodology. This was a cross-sectional study involving adults with HIV recruited between 1 August 2014 and 31 January 2015. Data on support services were obtained through a closed-ended personal interview while the CD4 counts data were collected from their medical records. Data were entered into EpiData and analyzed using Stata software. Results. Of the 201 patients who participated in the study, 67% (129/191) received case management support service. Counseling about how to prevent the spread of HIV (crude odds ratio (cOR) (95% confidence interval (CI)) (2.79 (1.17–6.68)), mental health services (0.2 (0.04–1.00)), and case management support service (2.80 (1.34–5.82))) was associated with improved CD4 counts of 350 cells/mm3 or more. After adjusting for counseling about how to prevent the spread of HIV and mental health services, case management support service was significantly associated with CD4 counts of 350 cells/mm3 or more (aOR = 2.36 (CI = 1.01–5.49)). Conclusion. Case management support service for HIV patients receiving ART improves their CD4 counts above 350 cells/mm3. Incorporating HIV case management services in ART regimen should be a priority in sub-Saharan Africa.

Abstract (sommario):
The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of emotional intelligence (EI) and the Big Five personality traits on the attainment of success in leadership positions within hospital administration. The researchers predicted the association between emotional intelligence (EI) and neuroticism, anticipating a negative link. Additionally, they projected a positive relationship between EI and the Big Five personality traits, specifically openness to experience, agreeableness, openness to new ideas, and extraversion. The primary objective of this study is to fill a void in the existing body of research by examining the relationship between personality, emotional intelligence (EI), and leadership effectiveness and performance. Our results indicate that the association between individual differences, leadership, and performance exist. This study did not examine the firm’s performance metrics, but the disturbances’ absorption of measurement errors in the endogenous regressors, which are independent of the exogenous, and minimize coefficient estimate biasesas as held by (Antonakakis et al., 2020). Individual predictors had a low to moderate effect on variation, but their aggregate influence accounted for 56% of transformational leadership variance and 26% of management leadership effectiveness variance. Our study supported merits consideration due to the implementation of controls such as age and managerial experience, the utilization of a longitudinal measure of effectiveness, and the mitigation of common method variance through the use of measures from different sources for predictors and criteria.

Abstract (sommario):
ABSTRACT Neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) of dementia constitute one of the most related factors to caregiver burden and patients' early institutionalization. Few studies in Brazil have examined which symptoms are associated with higher levels of caregiver distress. Objective: To evaluate the caregiver distress related to individual NPS in familial caregivers of patients with dementia. We also examined which caregiver and patient factors predict caregiver distress associated with NPS. Methods: One hundred and fifty-nine familial caregiver and dementia outpatient dyads were included. The majority of the patients had a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (66.7%). Caregivers were assessed with a sociodemographic questionnaire, Beck Anxiety and Depression Inventories, and the Neuropsychiatric Inventory - Distress Scale. Patients were submitted to the Mini-Mental State Examination, Functional Activities Questionnaire, and the Neuropsychiatric Inventory. Spearman's rank correlation was used to assess the relationships between the continuous variables. Multiple linear regression analyses with backward stepping were performed to assess the ability of caregiver and patient characteristics to predict levels of caregiver distress associated with NPS. Results: Apathy (M=1.9; SD=1.8), agitation (M=1.3; SD=1.8), and aberrant motor behavior (AMB) (M=1.2; SD=1.7) were the most distressful NPS. The frequency/severity of NPS was the strongest factor associated with caregiver distress (rho=0.72; p<0.05). Conclusion: The early recognition and management of apathy, agitation and AMB in dementia patients by family members and health professionals may lead to better care and quality of life for both patients and caregivers.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractParanasal and rhinocerebral mucormycosis refers to uncommon opportunistic fungal infections, reported to occur especially in association with diabetic acidosis (the most common), immunosuppressive therapy, malignancy, or other chronic debilitating disorders. However, patients who have no underlying disease have occasionally been affected. According to the literature reviewed, only 13 well-documented cases without any predisposing factor have been previously reported. We describe a unique case of sphenoidal mucormycosis in an otherwise healthy individual, and the first patient to present with headache as the only symptom. We emphasize the importance of a high index of suspicion for early diagnosis and prompt management.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationships between universal individual value priorities, feelings and global job satisfaction as well as satisfaction with life in Turkish context. The sub-research question is to learn the moderation effect of job satisfaction on the relationship between values, experienced feelings and life satisfaction. Design/methodology/approach – Analytical type of research design was used, and the data were obtained from 390 respondents who are the employees of different organizations in three cities in Turkey. Four measurement devices (Schwartz’s ten-item Portrait Values Questionnaire (PVQ), Brayfield-Rothe’s overall job satisfaction (OJS), and Diener’s Scale of positive and negative experience (SPANE) and satisfaction with life scale (SWLS)) were employed. Findings – It was understood that the participants are slightly to moderately satisfied both with their job tasks and with the evaluation of global satisfaction of their own lives. The values of self-direction, achievement, hedonism and conformity are positively and strongly linked to job satisfaction and overall satisfaction of life. The moderating effect of job satisfaction is partially confirmed. It was also understood that the priorities of Turkish citizens imply self-centered satisfaction and independency, but not risk taking. Positive affect does influence the magnitude of the association between job satisfaction and life satisfaction. Originality/value – This paper is able to demonstrate the nature of associations between value orientations, experienced feelings, job satisfaction and global life satisfaction in a collectivist culture. The contradictions between value priorities of Turkish citizens and the people of Western countries would be likely interesting for academicians and researchers.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Objectives To objectively characterize phenome-wide associations observed in the entire Taiwanese population and represent them in a meaningful, interpretable way. Study Design In this population-based observational study, we analyzed 782 million outpatient visits and 15 394 unique phenotypes that were observed in the entire Taiwanese population of over 22 million individuals. Our data was obtained from Taiwan’s National Health Insurance Research Database. Results We stratified the population into 20 gender-age groups and generated 28.8 million and 31.8 million pairwise odds ratios from male and female subpopulations, respectively. These associations can be accessed online at http://associations.phr.tmu.edu.tw. To demonstrate the database and validate the association estimates obtained, we used correlation analysis to analyze 100 phenotypes that were observed to have the strongest positive association estimates with respect to essential hypertension. The results indicated that association patterns tended to have a strong positive correlation between adjacent age groups, while correlation estimates tended to decline as groups became more distant in age, and they diverged when assessed across gender groups. Conclusions The correlation analysis of pairwise disease association patterns across different age and gender groups led to outcomes that were broadly predicted before the analysis, thus confirming the validity of the information contained in the presented database. More diverse individual disease-specific analyses would lead to a better understanding of phenome-wide associations and empower physicians to provide personalized care in terms of predicting, preventing, or initiating an early management of concomitant diseases.

Abstract (sommario):
Megatrends (urbanization, digitalization, globalization, climate change, etc.) are mainstream developments that affect most economic activities. These megatrends have varying incidences and impacts on individual entrepreneurs and enterprises, also in farming sector. A farmer can either ignore or try to adapt to or benefit from megatrends. This reaction depends on many things: individuals’ futures orientation, management practices, business strategy, sunk costs, the life cycle and type of business, for example. The study explores the association between eight common megatrends and business strategies among a sample of Finnish dairy producers. The analysis is based on survey data from the year 2019 (n = 135) collected among a major Finnish dairy industry co-operative’s contract producers. The respondents evaluated the expected impact of the megatrends on their own business within the next 10 years with 5-point Likert-type scale (−2 … +2). K-means cluster analysis was utilized to uncover a few basic settings in the association between megatrends and farmers behaviours. After trying out several numbers of clusters, a distinctive three cluster solution was found. Additionally, cluster member profiles were framed with farmers’ Likert -scale responses. The analysis indicates that dairy farmers differ in their observation of megatrends. The results confirm that some of the farmers more or less ignore the common megatrends, whereas some other farmers adapt to or benefit from the common megatrends. Supporting farmers’ futures consciousness will strengthen their capacities of coping in the changing business environment.

Abstract (sommario):
Agriculture is a risky business, and risk persists in all management decisions taken by a farmer at the farm level. Disrupting agricultural business severely affects the livelihood of individual farmers and negatively affects the country’s economy. To cope with risks, farmers’ tend to mitigate the harsh impact of risks by adopting risk management strategies. Such an adoption decision is affected by several factors, most importantly, the psychological factors, i.e., risk perception and risk attitude of the farmer. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to understand farmers’ risk perception and risk attitude that affect their behaviour in making decisions at the farm level in a risky prospect. The association is investigated by employing chi-squared tests and Cramér’s V. The indirect impact of socioeconomic characteristics of the farmer via their psychological factors is conducted using structural equation model (SEM) path analysis. Their direct impact, together with psychological factors, are examined using the probit model. The two models are compared statistically for better performance and interpretations of the results. From the results, we found that risk perception and risk attitude are the key driving forces of farmers’ decisions during uncertainty which induce them to adopt risk management strategies. Other key variables and their quadratic functions that significantly affect farmers’ behaviour include education level, farming experience, off-farm income, and farm size. Thus, it is vital to consider these factors while assessing farmers’ behaviour in a risky prospect.

Abstract (sommario):
Until recently, depression was considered an acute, self-remitting illness of limited duration. However, it is increasingly recognized as a chronic, relapsing, or recurrent illness in most patients, imposing a substantial burden on the individual and society. Research has demonstrated an association between depression and impaired psychosocial functioning, reduced productivity and life satisfaction, excess health care utilization, increased reporting of medically unexplained medical symptoms, comorbidity with other psychiatric illnesses, and suicide. It is more prevalent in patients with common chronic medical conditions, such as obstructive pulmonary disease, hypertension, diabetes, stroke, coronary artery disease, asthma, and chronic pain. In addition to its association with medical morbidity and mortality, depression has a negative impact on self-care behaviors, including medication adherence, in patients with chronic medical illnesses, and in health-related behaviors such as exercise, smoking, and weight control. As a consequence, it is a major barrier to effective care of chronic medical illnesses.

Abstract (sommario):
Reactive arthritis (ReA) remains an important problem in the practice of rheumatology, and is one of the most common types of acute arthritis in young people. The relevance of ReA is due to its high frequency, difficulties of diagnosis, a chronicity with an insufficiently effective treatment. The article discusses current literature data on Yersinia arthritis, features of pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment. The occurrence of ReA is most often associated with gastrointestinal or urogenital infection, which precedes the development of joint syndrome. Among the ReAs associated with intestinal infection, Yersinia is quite common. Intestinal yersiniosis is severe, has a significant duration with a tendency to chronicity, involvement of various organs and systems in the pathological process. The features of Yersiniosis pathogens in combination with infectious conditions cause a wide variety of clinical manifestations. The disease has a frequent association with HLA-B27 antigen. Among the common clinical symptoms of ReA there are asymmetric arthritis of the lower extremities, sausage-like toe deformity, tendonitis, enthesitis (most commonly heel tendon enthesitis), and asymmetric sacroiliitis. The frequency and severity of extra-articular manifestations may be different: lesions of the eyes, skin, mucous membranes, urogenital or gastrointestinal tract. First-line drugs in the treatment of ReA are NSAIDs. Patients with an active source of infection also require a long-term treatment with antibacterial therapy, sulfosalazine is added in case of a chronic arthritis. The article presents a clinical case of Yersiniosis reactive arthritis, emphasizes the multidisciplinary approach in the management of the patient.

Abstract (sommario):
Although the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) includes case management among the responsibilities for school-based speech-language pathologists, there is limited information in the speech-language pathology literature describing models of, or best practice for, case management in the schools. Recent amendments to the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (1997) focusing on enhancing students with disabilities involvement and progress in the general curriculum and participation in state- and district-wide assessment suggest that the speech-language pathologist serving as case manager should effectively coordinate appropriate accommodations and adaptations. The authors describe a case management model for speech-language pathologists working with school-age children who have multiple needs. The skills necessary for effective case management are outlined and functional outcomes are demonstrated with a child and family story.

Abstract (sommario):
Although personality and cultural traits were found to be important predictors or moderators of consumer attitudes and behavior, their relationship to consumer animosity has not yet been studied. This article reports the findings of a study conducted with 606 Ukrainian consumers, which aims to identify personality drivers and behavioral outcomes of consumer animosity as well as the moderating role of cultural characteristics. Structural equation modeling reveals that extraversion and conscientiousness have a negative effect on consumer animosity, whereas neuroticism and openness are positively associated with this feeling. However, no significant relationship was observed between animosity and agreeableness. In turn, consumer animosity was found to influence product avoidance, and this association became stronger in the case of consumers that have higher levels of power distance, uncertainty avoidance, collectivism, and masculinity. The study also showed that male and educated consumers are more likely to harbor animosity toward a hostility-evoking country, while age and income had no control effect on animosity. Several implications for theory and practice are derived from the study findings, and directions for future research are provided.

Abstract (sommario):
The main aim of this study is to investigate the influence of institutional investors’ ownership (INOW) on firms’ environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting in Saudi Arabia. Using data on ESG reporting from the Bloomberg database for 206 Saudi-listed firms spanning the period from 2010 to 2019 and employing ordinary least squares regression (OLS), the results show a significant and positive association between INOW and ESG reporting. When institutional investors are classified into government and privately managed institutions, the research findings clearly show that only government-managed institutional investors (Govt_IO) are linked to ESG reporting in a positive and significant way, whereas there is no significant association between privately managed institutions (Prvt_IO) and ESG reporting. In addition, when the ESG score is disaggregated by individual pillars, we find Govt_IO is positively associated with environmental score and social score. These results suggest that the association between INOW and ESG varies depending on the types of INOW, as well as the ESG components. Even after several additional analyses, including tests for endogeneity, the main results of this study still hold.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper adopts the analytical method of intelligent programming to conduct in-depth research and analysis on university education management and designs a corresponding university education management model to be applied in actual teaching. Based on the basic theories and methods of big data distributed data mining and machine learning, automated machine learning, and big data programming computational methods, this paper combines the importance and technical challenges of the algorithms themselves and the background of the practical application needs of the industry and firstly selects a series of data mining and machine learning algorithms that are commonly used based on high complexity, outstanding computational efficiency problems, and difficult to design distributed algorithms. The research on efficient large-scale distributed parallelized data mining and machine learning methods and algorithms is carried out. As an innovative teaching model, the experiential teaching model focuses on the cultivation of individual students’ independent learning ability and subjective initiative, which not only can effectively activate the classroom atmosphere and improve the teaching effect but also meet the requirements of classroom teaching for the development of the times. The empirical evidence of the experiential teaching model proposed in this paper is carried out, and the implementation process of the experiential teaching model of high school physics is further improved. In terms of the overall implementation effect, the experiential teaching model proposed in the paper can deepen students’ understanding of concepts and physical laws, thus enabling them to solve physics problems better, and has a positive and active effect on enhancing students’ learning interests and attitudes. In the case of system security, the average comprehensive index of each unit is 61.11, 22 are higher than the average index, accounting for 61.11%, 14 are lower than the average index, accounting for 38.89%, and 23 management departments’ management systems passed the safety monitoring, accounting for 63.89%. At the same time, the proposed model also provides educational practitioners with a more reliable framework for instructional design, which has realistic reference value and significance.

The prevalence of falls was associated with the fall risk level by the Morse Fall Scale (MFS) and individual status at admission including history of admission, dizziness, sleep disorder, bowel dysfunction, and urinary incontinence. The odds ratios of patient falls were higher in the low-risk group by the MFS score (odds ratio (OR) = 2.61, p < 0.001) and the high-risk group (OR = 5.51, p < 0.001) compared to the no-risk group. The hazard ratio of patient falls was higher in the high-risk group by the MFS score (hazard ratio (HR) = 3.85, p < 0.001). The MFS had a significant explanatory power to predict fall risk. Sleep disorder and urinary incontinence were the significant factors influencing patient falls.

Abstract (sommario):
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the accuracy of response to a request among a sample of drug information centers and to determine the association between accuracy of response and individual center characteristics. DESIGN: A randomized telephone investigation. SETTING: College of Pharmacy drug information center located in a 500-bed tertiary care teaching hospital. PARTICIPANTS: Fifty-nine drug information centers randomly selected from 154 centers that had responded to a survey. INTERVENTION: Each center received a telephone request requiring identification of Videx (didanosine), at that time a Phase II investigational product. Each center correctly identifying Videx was presented a patient case and questioned concerning adverse effect management. A written protocol of conversation was followed. Center confidentiality was maintained during data analysis. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The association between correct information regarding Videx and individual drug information center characteristics was evaluated. RESULTS: Fifty-six evaluable responses were received. Videx was correctly identified by 16 centers (28.6 percent). Two centers (3.6 percent) made an incorrect identification and 38 centers (67.9 percent) could not make an identification. Of the 16 centers correctly identifying Videx, four successfully linked the product with described adverse effects, but none offered therapeutic management recommendations. Factors significantly associated with accurately identifying Videx included possession of a center policy and procedure manual (p=0.011) and on-line searching capability (p=0.021). CONCLUSIONS: These results identify an inconsistency in accuracy of responses among drug information centers. Although standardized operating policies/procedures and on-line searching capability may contribute to increased accuracy, there is clearly a need for enhanced quality assurance efforts.

Abstract (sommario):
An endo-perio lesion is one of the more common tooth-related problems. An association between the presence of apical and marginal periodontitis is known in the literature and has been observed in 5.7% of individuals aged 40–45 years old. The purpose of the present article is to present three case reports describing the successful retreatment of endo-perio lesions. In each of these cases, we used a biologically active bioceramic root canal sealer, GuttaFlow Bioseal, which is a bioactive root canal filling material composed of gutta percha, polydimethylsiloxane, platinum catalyzer, zirconium dioxide, and bioglass. All cases were followed up clinically and radiographically for a period of at least 11 months.

Abstract (sommario):
Background: A high detection rate of diabetes among dental visitors has been reported recently. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the association between periodontitis and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels among non-diabetic individuals. Methods: The EMBASE, MEDLINE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, PubMed, and Open GREY databases were searched, and observational studies published until 1st June 2023 were identified. A methodological quality assessment was conducted based on the original and modified versions of the Newcastle–Ottawa scale. Cohort, case–control, and cross-sectional studies that performed clinical periodontal examinations and measured HbA1c levels in non-diabetic adults were included. A meta-analysis was conducted to estimate the weighted mean difference (WMD) between individuals with and without periodontitis. Results: In total, 29 case–control and 5 cross-sectional studies were selected from 2583 potentially eligible articles. Among them, sixteen case–control and three cross-sectional studies with moderate to high quality were selected for the meta-analyses. The HbA1c levels in periodontitis patients were significantly higher than those in individuals with healthy periodontal conditions (WMD = 0.16; p < 0.001) among the non-diabetic populations. Conclusions: This study reveals a significant association between periodontitis and HbA1c levels in non-diabetic populations. Thus, HbA1c screening may be recommended to detect potential hyperglycemia in non-diabetic periodontitis patients.

Abstract (sommario):
Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and spinal degenerative disorders (SDD) are common diseases that frequently coexist. However, both traditional observational studies and recent Mendelian randomization (MR) studies have demonstrated conflicting evidence on the association between T2DM and SDD. This comparative study explored and compared the association between T2DM and SDD using observational and MR analyses. Methods: For observational analyses, cross-sectional studies (44,972 participants with T2DM and 403,095 participants without T2DM), case-control studies (38,234 participants with SDD and 409,833 participants without SDD), and prospective studies (35,550 participants with T2DM and 392,046 participants without T2DM with follow-up information until 2022) were performed to test the relationship between T2DM and SDD using individual-level data from the U.K. Biobank from 2006 to 2022. For MR analyses, the associations between single-nucleotide polymorphisms with SDD susceptibility obtained using participant data from the U.K. Biobank, which had 407,938 participants from 2006 to 2022, and the FinnGen Consortium, which had 227,388 participants from 2017 to 2022, and genetic predisposition to T2DM obtained using summary statistics from a pooled genome-wide association study involving 1,407,282 individuals were examined. The onset and severity of T2DM are not available in the databases being used. Results: Participants with T2DM were more likely to have SDD than their counterparts. Logistic regression analysis identified T2DM as an independent risk factor for SDD, which was confirmed by the Cox proportional hazard model results. However, using single-nucleotide polymorphisms as instruments, the MR analyses demonstrated no causal relationship between T2DM and SDD. The lack of such an association was robust in the sensitivity analysis, and no pleiotropy was seen. Conclusions: Our results suggest that the association between T2DM and SDD may be method-dependent. Researchers and clinicians should be cautious in interpreting the association, especially the causal association, between T2DM and SDD. Our findings provide fresh insights into the association between T2DM and SDD by various analysis methods and guide future research and clinical efforts in the effective prevention and management of T2DM and SDD. Level of Evidence: Prognostic Level III. See Instructions for Authors for a complete description of levels of evidence.

Abstract (sommario):
We suggest a reconsideration of the role of ‘attachment orientation’ in the context of eating disorders and paediatric diabetes. Attachment orientation is a psychological construct that describes a relatively stable set of expectations and behaviours an individual relies upon in managing relationships. There is considerable evidence of an association between attachment orientation and the development and maintenance of disordered eating in individuals without diabetes, though evidence is more scant in populations with diabetes. We discuss the underpinning theory and critically examine the existing literature for the relationship between attachment orientation and disordered eating in paediatric diabetes. Finally, we draw on adjacent literatures to highlight potential future directions for research should this area be revisited. Overall, we contextualise our discussion in terms of patient-centred, holistic care that addresses the mind and body (i.e., our discussion of attachment orientation assumes a psycho-biological approach).

Abstract (sommario):
Summary We estimate the association between the unemployment status of young women and the probability that they are subject to violence, using Swedish population register data covering the period 1999-2008. These data contain the highest-level classification of diagnoses made by medical experts at every individual in-patient and out-patient visit to medical care units, including every contact with a physician. We distinguish between domestic and non-domestic violence. It turns out that unemployed women are significantly more likely to be victimized than employed women with the same individual characteristics. This is mostly reflected in indicators of nondomestic violence and long-run abuse among unemployed female youths.

Abstract (sommario):
Objective: Acromegaly is a classic endocrine disorder caused by a growth hormone (GH)–secreting pituitary adenoma in an overwhelming majority of patients. The diagnosis may be delayed by several years due to the slow growing and insidious nature of the disease. Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is an inherited disorder characterized by multiple renal cysts and various other systemic manifestations. The purpose of this article is to report a rare case of acromegaly with coexistent ADPKD. Methods: We report a case of 42-year-old female with acromegaly and ADPKD along with a brief review of literature. Results: The patient was referred to us for evaluation of progressive acral enlargement and coarsening of facial features. Endocrine evaluation confirmed the diagnosis of acromegaly due to an underlying GH–secreting pituitary macroadenoma. She was also found to have ADPKD. We discuss the clinical features and management of the patient. Conclusion: The association of pituitary adenomas and ADPKD is very rare and interesting. All affected individuals with pituitary adenomas and ADPKD in the literature are women. Furthermore, all reported pituitary adenomas in these individuals (including ours) are functional GH–secreting ones. These findings argue against a mere chance association between the two diseases.

Abstract (sommario):
1578 Background: The association between individual insulin use and cancer risk has been previously considered with studies reporting higher breast cancer incidence for insulin glargine. Objective: To assess the relative risk of breast cancer associated with individual insulin use (glargine, human insulin, insulin analogs aspart and lispro). Methods: Systematic case-control study of incident breast cancer occurring in women with diabetes from across the United Kingdom, Canada and France. Participants and Settings: 775 case-patients with diabetes and primary invasive or in situ carcinoma of the breast (diagnosed between 1 January, 2008 and 30 June, 2009) selected from 39,958 incident breast cancer patients from 92 large oncology clinics; and 3,050 control-patients with diabetes selected from 580 general practices and matched on country, age, date, type of diabetes (1 or 2), and management by diabetologist or general practitioner. Data on exposure: Data was collected from physicians and patients. Statistical analysis: The main risk model was a multivariable conditional logistic regression including individual insulin use, 8 years preceding the index date, and controlling for past use of any insulin, oral antidiabetic drug use, reproductive factors, lifestyle, education, hormone replacement therapies and contraceptive use, body mass index, comorbidities, diabetes duration, and annual number of physician visits. Results: Adjusted odds ratios of breast cancer were: 1.04 [95% Confidence Interval: 0.76-1.44] for glargine; 1.23 [0.79-1.92] for lispro; 0.95 [0.64-1.40] for aspart; 0.81 [0.55-1.20] for human insulin. Similar results were observed in new insulin users. No effect of dose or duration of use was observed for glargine on the risk of breast cancer. Conclusions: This first international case-controlled study found no difference in the risk of developing breast cancer among patients according to individual insulin use.

Abstract (sommario):
This article aims to identify the factors that generate a competitive advantage, based on resource orchestration, in associated companies in networks with an emphasis on corporate social responsibility (CSR). The “Roteiros de Charme” hotel association was the object of study, deepening the analysis into four hotels and hostels participating in the association, all located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The method chosen was qualitative comparative analysis (QCA), as it allows for the use of data from a small number of cases. The authors identified that individual CSR strategy, the environmental impact of CSR actions and the structuring of companies’ portfolios of resources cover the possible causality and present consistency in the creation of a competitive advantage based on resource orchestration. The analysis of the data showed that the companies associated can structure their portfolio of resources through bundled and leveraged resources for capacity building. The study represents an important managerial contribution since it clarifies what they (resources) are and how the resources of the hotel and the association can be orchestrated for a better financial, social and environmental results. The present study makes a unique theoretical contribution when analyzing the effects on the competitive advantage of CSR actions with the use of the QCA method.

Abstract (sommario):
There is inconclusive evidence about the link between the severity and prevalence of periodontitis in obese adults. Therefore, this systematic review aims to explore the possibility of significant evidence on the association between obesity and periodontitis and to determine the necessity to consider obesity as a risk factor for periodontitis. We followed the PRISMA protocol, and studies that met the eligibility criteria were included in this review. The risk of bias in individual studies was also evaluated. This review included 15 observational studies (9 cross-sectional studies, 2 case-control, and 4 cohort studies). The total study subjects from these studies were 6603 (males = 3432; females = 3171). Most studies showed a significant association between obesity and periodontitis. Among these studies, a few showed obese females to be at a higher risk, and one study found no association between obesity and periodontal disease at all. Based on the evidence obtained from this review, the body mass index (BMI) should be routinely assessed in patients to assess the risk for periodontal disease and to offer personalized management of periodontitis. Based on the findings of this review, we recommend the need to initiate awareness among clinicians and implement dental hygiene care prevention measures for obese patients.
