The case study in this research is the export goods data report at Willbess Global Inc. The purpose of this research is to design an information system for managing data on export goods based on a website at Willbess Global Inc.. This can help the process of inputting export goods data. Willbess Global Inc. always strives to improve its business process services, especially in the field of exporting goods with more systematic data processing. The research method used is the Rational Unified Process (RUP) which is a software engineering method developed by collecting various best practices in the software development industry. RUP uses an object oriented concept, with activities that focus on model development using the Unified Model Language (UML). This research has produced information system functions contained in each process of functional requirements such as managing, deleting, and changing information data on export goods data, data on types of transportation equipment used and data for export goods travel documents.

Moreover it is proved that the independent variables such as feature, innovation, and quality are significantly and positively related to brand image towards purchasing iPhone. The findings result shows that feature contribute the highest influence to the brand image towards the usage of iPhone.

AbstractSince its loss 100 years ago, RMS Titanic continues to captivate people worldwide as an epic story of tragedy at sea and as an iconic shipwreck with many mysteries still to be unraveled from its physical remains on the ocean bottom. RMS Titanic, Inc., has completed eight expeditions to RMS Titanic in its capacity as salvor-in-possession. These efforts include the first comprehensive remote-sensing survey of the shipwreck site in 2010. During this time, the company’s focus has evolved from marine salvage to treatment of RMS Titanic as an archaeological site. An important tool in archaeological interpretation of historic shipwrecks is a geographic information system (GIS).In 2006, RMS Titanic, Inc., formally initiated the GIS-based Titanic Mapping Project. Components of the Titanic Mapping Project include data rescue, digital transfer of film media, design of GIS methodology, verification and rectification of positioning data from original field records, preparation of detailed profiles for all recovered artifacts, development of GIS attribute tables for recovered artifacts and key in situ site features, and integration of remote-sensing data from Titanic Expedition 2010. With information on over 5,500 accessioned artifacts organized within the GIS, the company looks forward to making substantive contributions to deepwater archaeological research and forensic investigations of the shipwreck site. In combination with current architectural- and engineering-related knowledge of RMS Titanic, new light can be cast on such topics as the wrecking event during that fateful night in 1912.

Although the best method for handling an oil spill is to prevent its occurrence, the risk of a significant oil spill, from either a tank or other vessel, is always present. When a spill does occur, a good spill contingency plan will help to limit the adverse effects of the spill. This paper discusses the contents and development of Spill Contingency Plans, with emphasis on experience gained during the cleanup of the Port Angeles spill. Information pertinent to and details from ARCO Marine Inc.'s Spill Contingency Plan have been included to aid interested parties in their endeavors to develop suitable contingency plans.

We are very honored to receive the prestigious JDR Award for the Most Cited Paper 2022. The winning paper, “Real-Time Tsunami Prediction System Using DONET,” discusses a system that uses data from the Dense Oceanfloor Network system for Earthquakes and Tsunamis (DONET), which was installed in the rupture areas of the 1944 Tonankai and 1946 Nankai earthquakes in order to instantly generate and visualize tsunami prediction information. The forecast information from this system consists of tsunami arrival time, maximum tsunami height, tsunami inundation area, and inundation depth distribution. The system, which visualizes and distributes forecast information for areas where users need it as a supplement to the tsunami information provided nationwide by the Japan Meteorological Agency, has been introduced in Wakayama Prefecture, Mie Prefecture, Chiba Prefecture, and the city of Owase, as well as by Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. After DONET was installed in the Tonankai rupture area, we were considering the possibility of using DONET data regionally, and we developed the system as results of discussions with Wakayama Prefecture and Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. Under the concept that the users themselves would be operating the system, we intended to make the system as simple and easy to understand as possible, and to reduce costs by minimizing the number of hardware units. We also considered making the system flexible and scalable, recognizing that each user has a different way of how to use the tsunami forecast information. We were able to receive this award thanks to the cooperation of the people who were involved in many discussions with us during the process of establishing the concept. We will not become complacent going forward, but will continue to improve our system in ways that reflect the opinions of the users. We would like to thank everyone who has cited this paper with their interests.

Product data management (PDM) has proven its value as a critical tool in handling the enormous amounts of technical information companies generate. Now the PDM industry is applying this experience to more affordable systems targeted at smaller organizations. Several suppliers have entered the market with economical approaches aimed specifically at midsized companies. Many companies use PDM to eliminate inefficiencies in the engineering change process. Diebold, Inc. reduced engineering change cycle time by 30 percent through process automation with PDM. IBM is using PDM technology in product development for sharing data among groups, designing tools tightly coupled with release and change processes, interfacing with procurement and other services, and establishing real-time communication of data across the enterprise. Engineers increasingly are using PDM viewing features to track subsystems. Virtual-mockup capabilities enable engineers to import all the parts files for a product designed in Solid Edge, regardless of computer-aided design (CAD) vendor or file format.

Information Quality (IQ) has been always a growing concern for most organizations, since they depend on information for managing their daily tasks, delivering their services to their costumers, making important decisions, etc., and relying on low-quality information may negatively influence their overall performance, or even disasters in the case of critical systems (e.g., air traffic management systems, healthcare systems, etc.). Although there exist several techniques for dealing with IQ related problems in the literature (e.g., checksum, integrity constraints, etc.), but most of them propose solutions that are able to address the technical aspects of IQ, and seem to be limited in addressing social and organizational aspects. In other words, these techniques do not satisfy the needs of current complex systems, such as socio-technical systems, where humans and their interactions are considered as an integral part of the system along with the technical elements (e.g., healthcare systems, smart cities, etc.). This introduces the need of analyzing the social and organizational context where the system will eventually operates, since IQ related problems might manifest themselves in the actors' interactions and dependencies. Moreover, considering IQ requirements since the early phase of the system development (the requirements phase) can prevent revising the system to accommodate such needs after the system deployment, which might be too costly. Despite this, most of the Requirements Engineering (RE) frameworks and approaches either loosely define, or simply ignore IQ requirements. To this end, we propose a goal-oriented framework for modeling and reasoning about IQ requirements since the early phases of the system development. The proposed framework consists of (i) a modeling language that provides concepts and constructs for modeling IQ requirements; (ii) a set of analysis techniques that support system designers while performing the required analysis to verify the correctness and consistency of the IQ requirements model; (iii) an engineering methodology to assist designers in using the framework for capturing IQ requirements; and (iv) an automated tool-support, namely ST-IQ Tool. In addition, we empirically evaluated the framework to demonstrate its applicability, usefulness, and the scalability of its reasoning techniques by successfully applying it to a case study concerning a stock market system.

The advent of biodegradable polymers constituted an important development tool for the realization of modern systems that can be used in biomedicine. Biodegradable polymers are essential when it is necessary to have easily workable materials with suitable properties to obtain an excellent biological response, for this reason they found applications in a wide range of tissue engineering and drug delivery systems. The main limitation of biopolymers is however in the properties of the materials themselves, sometimes too poor compared to the application field in which they need to be used to provide efficient support or therapy. The fabricated systems exposed in this thesis work, aim to provide useful tools not only for the improvement of previously developed polymeric systems but also for the achievement of new objectives in the field of neuronal cultures and controlled drug release. Specifically, Chitosan (CHI) has been used as a bulk material to produce engineered neuronal networks both at the two-dimensional level and, in the currently essential passage towards biologically more relevant models, at the 3D one. Gold nanorods (GNRs) have been used thanks to their good interaction with chitosan to provide thermo-plasmonic properties to a composite ink developed to be able to be printed using a commercial ink-jet printer, with the aim of creating a platform for simple and scalable neuronal networks stimulation for potential studies to better understand brain diseases (such as epilepsy). Moreover, chitosan was used to manufacture porous microparticles by means of air-assisted jetting technique and phase inversion gelation. These systems can be used in various fields such as tissue engineering, as a bottom-up 3D scaffolds, or in drug delivery for local drug release. Precisely in these two directions I worked during my PhD research activity to develop systems that, by using Chitosan as a base, exploited the interactions with other materials to improve the properties of the biopolymer. Interactions between CHI and graphitic materials have been exploited to provide to scaffolds, formed by assemblies of neurons and chitosan microspheres, electrical conductivity, mechanical strength, and degradative resistance in physiological and/or injury conditions. With this in mind, graphite oxide and graphite nanoplatelets were used both as filler and by electrostatic surface interaction, evaluating the different impact on the bulk properties of CHI and on the material-cell interface.Afterwards, with a conservative approach, I used CHI microparticles as a potential carrier for drug release in the gastrointestinal tract. The poor degradative resistance of CHI in harsh conditions made it necessary to apply a surface coating. The biocompatible synthetic polymer already widely used in drug delivery Poly-(styrene-co-maleic anhydride) (PSMA), thanks to the strong grafting reaction with CHI, made it possible to obtain a system with a limited burst effect in the release of molecules in the first hour of administration. The overall findings of this thesis support the efforts in making novel bio-fabricated systems as greatly promising tools for tissue engineering and controlled drug delivery. Specifically, the interaction between biopolymers and synthetic polymers can introduce interesting innovations in the fields of drug delivery, while interactions between biopolymers and carbon-based materials could be a key point for the next years perspective in neuro-engineering.

Impairment of postural control is a common consequence of Parkinson's disease (PD) that becomes more and more critical with the progression of the disease, in spite of the available medications. Postural instability is one of the most disabling features of PD and induces difficulties with postural transitions, initiation of movements, gait disorders, inability to live independently at home, and is the major cause of falls. Falls are frequent (with over 38% falling each year) and may induce adverse consequences like soft tissue injuries, hip fractures, and immobility due to fear of falling. As the disease progresses, both postural instability and fear of falling worsen, which leads patients with PD to become increasingly immobilized.
The main aims of this dissertation are to: 1) detect and assess, in a quantitative way, impairments of postural control in PD subjects, investigate the central mechanisms that control such motor performance, and how these mechanism are affected by levodopa; 2) develop and validate a protocol, using wearable inertial sensors, to measure postural sway and postural transitions prior to step initiation; 3) find quantitative measures sensitive to impairments of postural control in early stages of PD and quantitative biomarkers of disease progression; and 4) test the feasibility and effects of a recently-developed audio-biofeedback system in maintaining balance in subjects with PD.
In the first set of studies, we showed how PD reduces functional limits of stability as well as the magnitude and velocity of postural preparation during voluntary, forward and backward leaning while standing. Levodopa improves the limits of stability but not the postural strategies used to achieve the leaning. Further, we found a strong relationship between backward voluntary limits of stability and size of automatic postural response to backward perturbations in control subjects and in PD subjects ON medication. Such relation might suggest that the central nervous system presets postural response parameters based on perceived maximum limits and this presetting is absent in PD patients OFF medication but restored with levodopa replacement.
Furthermore, we investigated how the size of preparatory postural adjustments (APAs) prior to step initiation depend on initial stance width. We found that patients with PD did not scale up the size of their APA with stance width as much as control subjects so they had much more difficulty initiating a step from a wide stance than from a narrow stance. This results supports the hypothesis that subjects with PD maintain a narrow stance as a compensation for their inability to sufficiently increase the size of their lateral APA to allow speedy step initiation in wide stance.
In the second set of studies, we demonstrated that it is possible to use wearable accelerometers to quantify postural performance during quiet stance and step initiation balance tasks in healthy subjects. We used a model to predict center of pressure displacements associated with accelerations at the upper and lower back and thigh. This approach allows the measurement of balance control without the use of a force platform outside the laboratory environment.
We used wearable accelerometers on a population of early, untreated PD patients, and found that postural control in stance and postural preparation prior to a step are impaired early in the disease when the typical balance and gait intiation symptoms are not yet clearly manifested. These novel results suggest that technological measures of postural control can be more sensitive than clinical measures. Furthermore, we assessed spontaneous sway and step initiation longitudinally across 1 year in patients with early, untreated PD. We found that changes in trunk sway, and especially movement smoothness, measured as Jerk, could be used as an objective measure of PD and its progression.
In the third set of studies, we studied the feasibility of adapting an existing audio-biofeedback device to improve balance control in patients with PD. Preliminary results showed that PD subjects found the system easy-to-use and helpful, and they were able to correctly follow the audio information when available. Audiobiofeedback improved the properties of trunk sway during quiet stance.
Our results have many implications for i) the understanding the central mechanisms that control postural motor performance, and how these mechanisms are affected by levodopa; ii) the design of innovative protocols for measuring and remote monitoring of motor performance in the elderly or subjects with PD; and iii) the development of technologies for improving balance, mobility, and consequently quality of life in patients with balance disorders, such as PD patients with augmented biofeedback paradigms.

Seismic Engineering research projects’ experiments generate an enormous amount of data that would benefit researchers and experimentalists of the community if could be shared with their semantics. Semantics is the meaning of a data element and a term alike. For example, the semantics of the term experiment is a scientific research performed to conduct a controlled test or investigation. Ontology is a key technique by which one can annotate semantics and provide a common, comprehensible foundation for the resources on the Semantic Web. The development of the domain ontology requires expertise both in the domain to model as well as in the ontology development. This means that people from very different backgrounds, such as Seismic Engineering and Computer Science should be involved in the process of creating ontology. With the invention of the Semantic Web, computing paradigm is experiencing a shift from databases to Knowledge Bases (KBs), in which ontologies play a major role in enabling reasoning power that can make implicit facts explicit to produce better results for users. To enable an ontology and a dataset automatically exploring the relevant ontology and datasets from the external sources, these can be linked to the Linked Open Data (LOD) cloud, which is an online repository of a large amount of interconnected datasets published in RDF. Throughout the past few decades, database technologies have been advancing continuously and showing their potential in dealing with large collection of data, but they were not originally designed to deal with the semantics of data. Managing data with the Semantic Web tools offers a number of advantages over database tools, including classifying, matching, mapping and querying data. Hence we translate our database based system that was managing the data of Seismic Engineering research projects and experiments into KB-based system. In addition, we also link our ontology and datasets to the LOD cloud.
In this thesis, we have been working to address the following issues. To the best of knowledge the Semantic Web still lacks the ontology that can be used for representing information related to Seismic Engineering research projects and experiments. Publishing vocabulary in this domain has largely been overlooked and no suitable vocabulary is yet developed in this very domain to model data in RDF. The vocabulary is an essential component that can provide logistics to a data engineer when modeling data in RDF to include them in the LOD cloud. Ontology integration is another challenge that we had to tackle. To manage the data of a specific field of interest, domain specific ontologies provide essential support. However, they alone can hardly be sufficient to assign meaning also to the generic terms that often appear in a data source. That necessitates the use of the integrated knowledge of the generic ontology and the domain specific one.
To address the aforementioned issues, this thesis presents the development of a Seismic Engineering Research Projects and Experiments Ontology (SEPREMO) with a focus on the management of research projects and experiments. We have used DERA methodology for ontology development. The developed ontology was evaluated by a number of domain experts. Data originating from scientific experiments such as cyclic and pseudodynamic tests were also published in RDF. We exploited the power of Semantic Web technologies, namely Jena, Virtuoso and VirtGraph tools in order to publish, storage and manage RDF data, respectively. Finally, a system was developed with the full integration of ontology, experimental data and tools, to evaluate the effectiveness of the KB-based approach; it yielded favorable outcomes. For ontology integration with WordNet, we implemented a semi-automatic facet based algorithm. We also present an approach for publishing both the ontology and the experimental data into the LOD Cloud. In order to model the concepts complementing the vocabulary that we need for the experimental data representation, we suitably extended the SEPREMO ontology. Moreover, the work focuses on RDF data sets interlinking technique by aligning concepts and entities scattered over the cloud.

AbstractOne of the main DevOps practices is the automation of resource provisioning and deployment of complex software. This automation is enabled by the explicit definition of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), i.e., a set of scripts, often written in different modelling languages, which defines the infrastructure and applications to be deployed.We introduce the DevOps Modelling Language (DOML), a new Cloud modelling language for infrastructure deployments. DOML is a modelling approach that can be mapped into multiple IaC languages, addressing infrastructure provisioning, application deployment and configuration at once. The idea behind DOML is to use a single modelling paradigm which can help to reduce the need of deep technical expertise in using different specialised IaC languages.We present the DOML’s principles and discuss the related work on IaC languages. We demonstrate the DOML advantages for the end-user in comparison with state-of-the-art IaC languages such as Ansible, Terraform, and Cloudify, and show its effectiveness through an example.

Engineering is positioned at the interface of science and society. In health care, it connects the creators, commissioners and users of information systems, shaping and navigating pathways leading to success or failure in supporting the quality and improvement of services. This chapter celebrates engineers, with stories of their focus, skill and dogged persistence. I draw first on Samuel Smiles (1812–1904) and his 1881 book, Men of Invention and Industry, a wonderful account of engineering innovation through the English Industrial Revolution, to draw parallels with innovation in the information revolution of our age. The chapter associates the kinds and groupings of data that are captured, processed, stored and retrieved with the devices and systems employed to do this. It describes how these have evolved, from the remote village life of my childhood, through school and university days, to my desktop today, in my now global village life, and the Cloud of computational resource that it immediately connects me with. It highlights how characteristics and limitations of devices and evolving computer programming paradigms have channelled both theoretical and practical developments, and determined their usefulness. It connects the discussion of models and simulations in the preceding chapter with data models, information models and knowledge models of today. The chapter tracks the parallel evolution of software and algorithm, from early empirical methods closely aligned to the underlying machinery of the computer, to programming languages based on theory of data and algorithm, tuned to different domains of application, seeking tractable solutions for the computational challenges they pose. It concludes with a discussion of the standardization of computer systems and methods and the transformational infrastructure of the Internet and World Wide Web. The closing reflection, which concludes Part One of the book and sets the scene for Part Two and Part Three, looks towards a new interface of science and society, as the anarchic transition through the Information Age leads into a reinvention of health care supported by care information systems construed and sustained as a public utility.

This paper presents a case study of integrating forensic readiness capabilities into SensitiveCloud, an information system for storing and processing sensitive data. A risk-based approach to forensic readiness design is followed to achieve it. Consequently, weaknesses in both processes and systems are identified, and forensic readiness requirements are formulated. This case study reports on lessons learned in a practical implementation of a forensic-ready system, its impact on security, and its support towards ISO/IEC 27k.

Cost estimation for tendering is one of the leading causes of legal disputes in the architecture, engineering, construction, and facilities management (AEC/FM) industry. The lack of a standardised support procedure to verify the association of cost data with the objects model causes waste of time and inaccuracy in the cost estimation. This research work, starting from a previous study where the research group integrated a cost domain in the IFC data schema, investigated the possible applications of this IFC based cost domain integrated with an IFC geometrical information model. The current paper investigates a specific case study focused on a structural model to verify current and future applications. Furthermore, rules for BIM information requirements will be defined through the Information Delivery Specification (IDS) to ensure an easy way for humans and computers to understand it. This will allow to specify which data must be present in the geometric model to subsequently ensure validation and verification of uniqueness of the cost data associated with geometric data. The results show the possibility to define a structured cost items in IFC associated through relationships to other entities and then verify their association to geometric data to guarantee its consistency and uniqueness

Developing multiple-generation of products has become a mainstream tactic in today’s markets. The most notable case is Apple Inc.’s huge success with its iPod, iPhone and iPad product lines. Multiple-generation product lines require carefully planned strategies. Under a multiple-generation product development strategy, companies introduce a line of products to the market instead of introducing a single product to better utilize technology assets and resources in an elongated time span. For such product development and launch scenarios, cannibalization can occur, however. That is, multiple product generations compete in the same market and partition the company’s market shares. In the paper, we propose a new framework to predict the sales and introduction timing for every product generation in a multiple-generation product line while considering cannibalization. We demonstrate a case study implementing the proposed framework on Apple Inc.’s iPhone product line. The results show that the forecast performance of the model matches the realized real data.

In Part I of this series, observations from field surveys conducted on revenue service track are presented. Automated and visual inspections of rail joints were conducted to identify defective joint bars. Detailed information and measurements were collected at various joint locations. The survey team consisted of personnel from ENSCO, Inc. and Transportation Technology Center, Inc. (TTCI), working in cooperation with staff from participating railroads. Part II of this series describes the development of finite element analyses of jointed rail, which is being carried out by the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center (Volpe Center).

The robot version analyzed in this paper is 455 mm tall and has a mass of 2.8 kg. Ohio University has two of these units for robot applications research and teaching. The Ground Systems (GS) business unit of BAE Systems Inc. develops and manufactures major ground combat vehicles for military. Because the development of ground-based combat vehicles is a complex process, it requires the coordinated effort of multiple engineering disciplines that include human factor engineering (HFE), product design, as well as modeling and simulation (M&S), to perform design analysis and to predict vehicle performance. In order to increase engineering efficiency and to reduce product development costs, GS has developed a virtual prototyping technology. Using this technology, it enables GS to perform vehicle design and requirement validation in a virtual environment prior to expensive and time consuming hardware prototyping. This technology also enables GS customers to be more involved in the product development cycle and makes the product development process more customer-centric. The development of this virtual environment requires integration of various technologies, including multibody dynamics, 3D computer graphics, networking, modeling and simulation, and the human-machine interface design. This paper describes how multibody system simulations are used in this virtual environment to support GS vehicle design in the areas of crew visibility studies, crew station design, vehicle interference checking, and electrical power management simulation.

The application of lean manufacturing principles has improved the production flow of manufacturing companies across the globe. In a similar vein, environmentally conscious design has been an increasingly important avenue of research which similarly seeks to reduce waste and thereby mitigate environmental impact. An analysis of the curbside municipal solid waste (MSW) and recycling collection process from a lean manufacturing standpoint reveals numerous non-value added activities which can be eliminated or reduced and value-added activities which can be made more efficient. Environmental America Inc. (EAI) has proposed a collection process which will improve the overall material flow through the use of a collection vehicle specializing in the combined collection of raw waste and recyclable waste. This collection vehicle, combined with localized, low-impact material offloading facilities has the potential to revolutionize the curbside collection process. Our research supports this vision by configuring the truck layout and process operations, as discussed in this paper.

Identifying the factors that could lead to the loss of quality is difficult for large complex product systems. Traditional design methods such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Robust Design have been proven effective at identifying component failures, but are less effective for causes of quality loss that involve interactions between components, software flaws, or external noises. This research applied System Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA) to a case study at Cummins, Inc. The case study was a technology change to a subsystem in a new product development project. The intent of this case was to determine if STPA, developed for safety engineering and hazard analysis, would be effective in identifying causes of quality losses. The results of the case study were compared to the traditional design methods. STPA allowed design teams to identify more causal factors for quality losses than FMEA or FTA, especially those involving component interactions, software flaws, and external noises. STPA was also found to be complementary to Robust Design methods.

In a time when energy crises loom on the horizon, means for more efficient energy sources are being thoroughly researched. One such area for improvement is in the building sector with the implementation of double skin façades (DSF). With capabilities of relatively rapid and large changes in various aspects of itself, a DSF can respond dynamically to varying ambient conditions. Applying American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Condition Engineers, Inc (ASHRAE) standards to design a general building model with a standard HVAC system, a comparison can be drawn between different architectural configurations, both with and without DSFs, and a better understanding of how a DSF can affect heat transfer into a building could potentially influence future structural design decisions. Using CAD models, a flow analysis and rudimentary heat transfer can be conducted in a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software, Fluent which can account factors such as wind speed as well as solar radiation. With the various design applications, the heat load of a building can be reduced by over 15%.

Abstract This paper describes the development and implementation of a computerized knowledge-based system (SmartMix) that provides assistance to concrete mix designers by automatically generating designs of concrete mixes. These concrete mixes can be used for the construction of power plants, buildings, bridges, etc. The generation of designs by SmartMix is based on current design practices and heuristic rules. SmartMix incorporates current empirical data and its knowledge base can be expanded to include data gathered in the future. SmartMix is a fully operational system and has been designed taking into account the existence of several concrete plants geographically distributed that produce concrete mixes. This is an important consideration because different materials will be available depending on the geographic location of a particular plant. The mix design provided by SmartMix addresses the specific requirements and characteristics of the concrete plant that is to produce it. SmartMix was built using a knowledge-based systems environment called Smart Elements from Neuron Data. The system’s domain expertise consists of heuristic knowledge, statistical information and intelligent objects. The system has improved the reliability and consistency of the new concrete mix designs and has reduced dramatically the time and cost associated with the design of concrete mixes with respect to the manual process. The development of SmartMix was completed in 1995 as a result of a Joint Research Venture project between Pildysh Engineering Inc. and the Alberta Research Council. SmartMix has been in use since the fall of 1995 and is currently being used by Pildysh Engineering Inc. as a primary tool for the design of concrete mixes. Substantial cost savings and quality improvement have been achieved as a result of the implementation of SmartMix.

Dynamic pressure measurements are often helpful in characterizing operating conditions within industrial piping. The most straight forward method to obtain this type of data is to mount pressure transducers on the piping [6]. The orifice necessary for these instruments, frequently presents an undesirable opening in the pressure boundary of the affected system. One type of pressure transducer employs a strain gage mounted internally on a membrane that is exposed to the pressure to be measured [4, 5]. The deformation of the membrane is proportional to the pressure to be measured and is reported as a pressure value. A union of these two concepts yields the idea of mounting the gages directly on the piping and thereby eliminating the need for compromising piping integrity. One of the challenges is performing this measurement in the presence of significant axial train that is not related to the internal pressure. In the recent past Structural Integrity Associates Inc. has successfully applied this innovative technique to several main steam piping systems in various nuclear power plants in the US. This paper will describe some of the considerations regarding compensation for interfering axial strains as well as provide sample results from existing installations.

This project was part of several projects (ROW-6G, ROW-6D, ROW-3J) that partnered with California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo (CalPoly SLO) and Electricore to prepare a white paper that was submitted in response to a solicitation issued by the Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) for research ideas that focused on the Commercial Remote Sensing and Spatial Information (CRS and SI) technologies program for transportation infrastructure development and construction.

Leading research directions are defined on the basis of self-analysis of the study results on the use of cloud technologies in training by employees of joint research laboratory “Сloud technologies in education” of Kryvyi Rih National University and Institute of Information Technology and Learning Aids of the NAES of Ukraine in 2009-2018: cloud learning technologies, cloud technologies of blended learning, cloud-oriented learning environments, cloud-oriented methodological systems of training, the provision of cloud-based educational services. The ways of implementation SaaS, PaaS, IaaS cloud services models which are appropriate to use in the process of studying the academic disciplines of the cycles of mathematical, natural science and professional and practical training of future specialists in information technology are shown, based on the example of software engineering, computer science and computer engineering. The most significant advantages of using cloud technologies in training of future information technology specialists are definite, namely, the possibility of using modern parallel programming tools as the basis of cloud technologies. Conclusions are drawn; the direction of further research is indicated: designing a cloud-oriented learning environment for future specialists in computer engineering, identifying trends in the development of cloud technologies in the professional training and retraining of information technology specialists, developing a methodology for building the research competencies of future software engineering specialists by using cloud technologies.

Results of the research: the developed model of use of mobile ICT as tools of learning Computer Sciences to future professionals in Engineering Pedagogy is based on the competency-based, person-centered and systemic approaches considering principles of vocational education, general didactic principles, principles of Computer Science learning, and principles of mobile learning. It also takes into account current conditions and trends of mobile ICT development. The model comprises four blocks: the purpose-oriented block, the content-technological block, the diagnostic block and the result-oriented block. According to the model, the learning content of Computer Sciences consists of 5 main units: 1) Fundamentals of Computer Science; 2) Architecture of Modern Computers; 3) Fundamentals of Algorithmization and Programming; 4) Software of Computing Systems; 5) Computer Technologies in the Professional Activity of Engineer-pedagogues.

The research aims to theoretically justify and experimentally verify selection of mobile ICT for learning informatics to future professionals in engineering pedagogy. The research tasks include selecting groups of informatics subjects and mobile ICT tools for learning future professionals in engineering pedagogy. The research object involves selection of mobile ICT for the training process. The re-search subject is selection of mobile ICT for learning informatics to future professionals in engineering pedagogy. The research results imply analysis of the national and foreign researches into mobile ICT for learning informatics. The latest publications concerning selection of mobile ICT for teaching Informatics subjects (Mobile Learning Management Systems, Mobile Modeling and Programming Environments, Mobile Database Management Systems, Mobile Multimedia Authoring Tools, Audience Response Systems) are analyzed. Informatics subjects are united into 19 groups, mobile ICT tools – into five groups. The experimental research is conducted according to the syllabuses for Speciality 015.10 “Professional Education (Computer Technologies)”. The expert assessment results for each of the content blocks of informatics subjects allow determining leading and auxiliary mobile ICT teaching tools.

The measurement and interpretation of soil resistivity data is a fundamental aspect of pipeline corrosion engineering; nevertheless, very little information has been specifically published to assist pipeline corrosion personnel with these tasks. The purpose of this project was to evaluate the various techniques and instruments which are available for the measurement of soil resistivity, and also to consider the methods which are available to interpret the data. Although large amounts of information have already been published on this subject in other fields of engineering, much of this literature is not applicable to pipeline corrosion applications. A test method which might be considered a standard practice in one field of engineering may not be applicable to pipeline corrosion engineering at all, and so it was important that this evaluation be conducted by a pipeline corrosion engineer on behalf of all pipeline corrosion engineers. It was anticipated that this report might serve as a soil resistivity reference for the pipeline and corrosion industries, and possibly for electrical engineers in general, who are interested in the investigation of the earth's electrical characteristics.

The purpose of the study is the analysis of the development of the theory and methods of ICT usage while teaching higher mathematics engineering students in the United States. It was determined following tasks: to analyze the problem source, to identify the state of its elaboration, to identify key trends in the development of theory and methods of ICT usage while teaching higher mathematics engineering students in the United States, the object of study – the use of ICT in teaching engineering students, the research methods are: analysis of scientific, educational, technical, historical sources; systematization and classification of scientific statements on the study; specification, comparison, analysis and synthesis, historical and pedagogical analysis of the sources to establish the chronological limits and implementation of ICT usage in educational practice of U.S. technical colleges. In article was reviewed a modern ICT tools used in learning of fundamental subjects for future engineers in the United States, shown the evolution and convergence of ICT learning tools. Discussed experience of the «best practices» using online ICT in higher engineering education at United States. Some of these are static, while others are interactive or dynamic, giving mathematics learners opportunities to develop visualization skills, explore mathematical concepts, and obtain solutions to self-selected problems. Among ICT tools are the following: tools to transmit audio and video data, tools to collaborate on projects, tools to support object-oriented practice. The analysis leads to the following conclusion: using cloud-based tools of learning mathematic has become the leading trend today. Therefore, university professors are widely considered to implement tools to assist the process of learning mathematics such properties as mobility, continuity and adaptability.

Based on scientific analysis the authors of the article argued the necessity of solving priority tasks – the development of new educational technologies aimed at supporting the training of engineers in terms of the mining engineering as high-tech industry. The features of mining computer technologies are determined. There was worked out the project of the adaptive system of a mining engineer individual training "Electronic manual" aimed at the development of future professionals. The essence of individual preparation of future mining engineer ICT is defined. It is proved that the efficiency of the designing and planning of mining operations through the introduction of ICT at present is the real way to influence the quality of mining products that will promote individual learning orientation. For the first time pedagogical foundations for introducing adaptive training of mining engineers are clarified.

To expedite a special mechanism system compact intense clarity through cognitive visualization of the educational material, thickening of educational knowledge through encoding, consolidation and structuring Principle of cognitive visualization stems from the psychological laws in accordance with which the efficiency of absorption is increased if visibility in training does not only illustrative, but also cognitive function, which leads to active inclusion, along with the left and right hemispheres of the student in the process of assimilation of information, based on the use of logical and semantic modeling, which contributes to the development of engineering and creative potential.

The authors of the given article continue the series presented by the 2018 paper “Computer Simulation of Neural Networks Using Spreadsheets: The Dawn of the Age of Camelot”. This time, they consider mathematical informatics as the basis of higher engineering education fundamentalization. Mathematical informatics deals with smart simulation, information security, long-term data storage and big data management, artificial intelligence systems, etc. The authors suggest studying basic principles of mathematical informatics by applying cloud-oriented means of various levels including those traditionally considered supplementary – spreadsheets. The article considers ways of building neural network models in cloud-oriented spreadsheets, Google Sheets. The model is based on the problem of classifying multi-dimensional data provided in “The Use of Multiple Measurements in Taxonomic Problems” by R. A. Fisher. Edgar Anderson’s role in collecting and preparing the data in the 1920s-1930s is discussed as well as some peculiarities of data selection. There are presented data on the method of multi-dimensional data presentation in the form of an ideograph developed by Anderson and considered one of the first efficient ways of data visualization.
