Abstract (sommario):
For the surface tillage, it is common to utilize machines and tools, and their tillage implements are set in motion through contact with the soil and by the tractor's PTO. The furrow produced by the rotating tillage implements is characterized by an uneven bottom that matches the furrow length and aligns with the direction of the movement of the machine-tractor aggregates. However, an analysis of research suggests that this scenario does not fully capture the process of furrow formation by the cutting blade of the concerned tillage implement powered by the tractor's PTO. For the reasons outlined above, determining the tillage implement parameters to achieve the desired quality of surface soil tillage is quite challenging. This article, therefore, delves into the process of furrow formation using the power driven tillage implement. The objective of this study is to develop a methodology for determining the parameters of the furrow formed by the power driven tillage implement’s cutting blade. Experiments were conducted in a soil box filled with sandy soil, considering approach angles ranging from 30 to 90° and kinematic parameters varying between 0.8 and 2.2. The findings reveal that the cutting blade of the rotating implement, designed in an elliptical fashion, generates a furrow that takes on a parallelogram shape when seen from above. At a small approach angle, the implement's cutting blade produces a short, narrow furrow that deviates from the implement's path and remains within the implement's working width.

Abstract: The fabrication of a two-way multi-nut tightener and remover is an incipient innovation concept. The main aim of our project is to fabricate the two-way implement which is the cumulation of two implements four nut remover and five nut remover. Nowadays most cars have five nuts and four nut wheels it is arduous to carry two implements and costly to buy both the implement. From our project, we can abbreviate the carrying load of two implements into one implement and withal the cost of buying two implements by buying the sing implement. It minimizes the manpower and equal torque is applied to the entire nut in the car wheel. It can be prosperously utilized as a standard implement provided with an incipient conveyance. Additionally, it can be utilized in the assembly line of automobiles, workshops, and accommodation stations. Keywords: Ball Bearing, Gears, Spanner Socket, Base Plate, Shafts.

Abstract (sommario):
In day to day operations tractor has to move with tillage implements and without tillage implements. In this work emphasis has been given to compare the effect of vibrations on driver’s seat of tractor while working with implements during tillage and while working without implements. The experiment was conducted in the fields of Punjab (India). During the experiment, first time the tractor was made to move without implements and second time tractor was moving with chisel plough (tillage implement). Both times real time vibration data of driver’s seat was collected with three-axis accelerometer and it was observed that when tractor was moving without implements the vibration amplitude was highest in vertical direction Z as compared to transverse direction Y and horizontal direction X. But when the tractor was moving in the fields with tillage implement (chisel plough) the vibration amplitude was high in transverse direction Y relative to horizontal direction X and vertical direction Z.

Abstract (sommario):
Sugar cane production requires a number of operations to be carried out in the field through number of implements and machines. Therefore, time consuming and required large amount of energy. A combined field cultivator was designed in Kenana agricultural implements factory (KAIF) to carry out at one time multi operations (cultivation, furrow-reforming and Fertilizer placement). This is to increase field productivity, reduce farm power and lower operation time and cost. The combined implement was evaluated in Kenana cultivation fields and compared with three individual implements, rigid tine cultivator, furrow-reformer and fertilizer applicator. The measured parameters were drawbar pull, power requirements, field capacity, fuel consumption and total time in the field. The results showed highly significant differences at 1% level between the different implements for the field capacity, fuel consumption and significant differences at 5% for the drawbar pull. A power requirement in (kW) for the combined cultivator was 77% of those individual implements. Total time per feddan to accomplish the required operations by the combined cultivator was 57% of that required by the individual implements. Fuel consumption was reduced to 57% when combined implement was used compared to that consumed by individual implements. It was concluded that the combined cultivator was effective in increasing field productivity and reducing power and cost of operation.

Abstract (sommario):
In the last decade, many studies have been conducted on tractor and agricultural machinery electrification. In particular, the electrification of power take-off (PTO)-powered implements could support many benefits, such as improved comfort and safety during implement connection, less noisiness, accurate control of the implement rotational speed, and fuel consumption reduction. However, commercially available tractors do not generate sufficient electric power to run electrified implements. A solution to this issue is powering eventual electrified implements with an external electric generator powered by the PTO and mounted with the front three-point linkage. This study aimed to evaluate the potential benefits of using this combination with respect to PTO powered implements. The types of implements analyzed in detail in this study were a sprayer and a mulcher. Field tests were performed acquiring performance, operational, and environmental parameters. Results show that on the electrified implements, the absence of the cardan shaft and hydraulic remotes shortened the time required for the hitching phase and reduced the in-work noisiness. Field tests demonstrated that the electrified implements permitted an improvement of the fuel consumption per hectare, up to 33.3% and 29.8% lower than their PTO-powered homologue for the sprayer and the mulcher, respectively.

Abstract (sommario):
Theoretical models for the prediction of the performance of wide cutting blades have been in existence for some time. These models characterise the soil as a rigid-plastic Mohr-Coulomb material and depend on advanced mathematical techniques developed for the solution of the complex equations of equilibrium of soil elements in two-dimensional plane-strain failure. Less rigorous techniques have been employed for developing mathematical models for the behaviour of deep narrow tines. In both cases the soil-implement contact boundary is assumed to be a plane surface of simple geometrical shape. The extension of these methods to deal with three-dimensional failure generated by curved loading boundaries is of comparatively recent origin. The soil failure patterns associated with disc soil cutting implements fall into this category. The thesis describes the development of a mathematical model for predicting the performance of such implements. The method employed follows the technique used by Godwin et al for reducing three-dimensional failure into two-dimensional components. The present analysis caters for discs implements having both inclination and disc angles. Soil contact in such implements takes place on complex curved surfaces and the geometry of these were analysed. These surfaces were approximated by plane elements which were then assumed to generate two-dimensional failure in planes parallel to the direction of translation of the disc. The rupture geometry and the forces acting on these elements are then computed using the Newcastle adaptation of Sokolovski's rigorous solution to soil failure. The force acting on the soil contact surface is then obtained by a version of the method of slices used for analysing slip surfaces. The model developed can predict the quasi-static soil reactions on disc implements from a knowledge of the disc geometry, soil properites and depth of cut. The computer programme was used to investigate the sensitivity of the input parameters to the final predicted results and this information was used to develop a set of non-dimensional force coefficients which can be used in a simple additive algebraic equation to predict the three orthogonal force components acting on the disc. Empirical correction factors have been devised to cater for deviations between these and computed valus and prediction to within 5 percent of the computer prediction are possible by this relatively simple method. In order to check the performance of this theoretical model a special dynamometer rig was designed and built to assess all three orthogonal force components acting on a disc tool. A single plough disc was tested in a loam soil and the computer prediction was in good agrement with experimental values. The model was also used to check other published experimental results and once again the prediction was good.

Abstract (sommario):
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">This article presents the development of a solution that uses solar energy to power refrigerated semi-trailers. The solution employs photovoltaic cells on the surfaces of the semi-trailer, combined with a battery pack, which take advantage of a significant area with solar exposure and generate sufficient electric power to supply the refrigeration unit responsible for controlling the temperature inside the climate-controlled chamber. In addition to providing energy for the refrigeration unit, the solar system can be integrated with the auxiliary traction system used in some semi-trailers, functioning as a range extender for the battery. To achieve the main objectives of this development, studies were conducted to evaluate solar radiation through simulations considering different regions of Brazil. A hardware system was also developed for energy management and to drive the refrigeration unit, combining a high-power drive system composed of filters, DC/DC converters, and transformers to match the voltage levels of the systems, with a microprocessed circuit for functional logic control. As a result, a system capable of operating the refrigeration unit using solar energy was obtained, which can reduce diesel consumption by up to 1800 liters per year.</div></div>

Abstract (sommario):
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">This study comprehensively describes the application of linear electromagnetic actuators in automotive suspension systems, focusing on the electromagnetic force necessary in suspension systems operating in passive, semi-active, and active modes and their capability for energy regeneration. The use of electromagnetic actuators as an alternative to traditional shock absorbers makes easy the energy harvesting that is typically lost during vertical vehicle displacement. An initial sizing technique for dimensioning electromagnetic actuators is applied to estimate the requirements for heavy vehicles. Experimental tests are conducted to validate the proposed method and assess the performance of the electromagnetic actuator in the suspension system for passive, semi-active, and active operations. A suitable extrapolation of the validated data is performed to determine the feasibility of the application of the proposed solution for heavy vehicles and identify potential applications and markets based on the road conditions of the ISO 8608 standard. This study offers a comprehensive approach to determining the actuator force for the suspension system and/or studying its potential for energy regeneration. As a result, it becomes possible to analyze the viability of the actuator replacement and provides important insights for further research and development.</div></div>

Abstract (sommario):
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">This work aimed to analyze the behavior of the rear structure region of an electric bus in a rear collision situation and to create mechanisms capable of absorbing the energy generated by the impact, to guarantee the integrity of the batteries. These, when damaged in a collision, can release different types of flammable electrolytes, and even start a fire, creating a great risk to passengers and other people near to the vehicle. For this purpose, an impact absorber was developed to protect the batteries. Studies were carried out on rectangular cross-section profiles for programmed deformation, known as crash boxes (which aim to convert kinetic energy into deformation energy). Proposals were created based on concepts obtained in the literature and numerically evaluated through explicit numerical simulations based on other similar articles. From these studies it was possible to obtain higher values of energy absorption when compared to a square tube of the same cross-section. After the individual simulations of each crash box, the most effective proposal was applied to the structure together with the other components of the vehicle’s rear structure, these with the function of directing the residual energy to more rigid regions of the vehicle, such as the chassis stringers and its crossbeams, regions connected to the bus body structure. The complete impact absorber validation methodologies were developed specifically for this work based on CONTRAN Resolution No. 629 - Appendix II, which refers to the pendulum test, due to the fact that there are no standards for buses regarding safety of batteries in case of collision. The crash boxes applied to the structure reached an efficiency of approximately 45% of the kinetic energy that was imposed on the impact cell converted into strain energy. In addition, the vehicle was able to meet the proposed approval criteria for the absence of contact between the structure components and the batteries. The methodology was considered efficient in order to represent a collision of a small vehicle in the back of the bus.</div></div>

Abstract (sommario):
This report summarizes the results of a series of deterministic and probabilistic fracture and fatigue calculations carried out in order to: ? Demonstrate that ProCW correctly implements probabilistic ECA, eg by comparing selected deterministic and probabilistic calculations, ? Show the effect of the choice of K-solution on the fatigue life and POF of pipes containing a circumferential flaw, ? Implement a two-stage probabilistic model of fatigue crack growth, in both air and marine environments, ? Consider the effects of modelling the fatigue crack growth threshold probabilistically, ? Demonstrate the use of ProCW for a representative riser geometry and a complex loading spectrum, ? For the same riser geometry/loading scenario, compare the POF implied by the use of design fatigue safety factors given in DNVGL-ST-F101 [2], DNVGL-RP-F204 [3] and DNVGL-RP-F201 [4] with the POF calculated directly from probabilistic calculations. There is a related webinar.

Leon-Diaz, John. Updating Investment Forecasts with Macro Consistency. Inter-American Development Bank, maggio 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0004882.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
This technical note presents a model to evaluate the costs and benefits of plans to scale up public investment. It creates a theoretical framework that considers the positive effects of investment on growth and, in turn, the impact it can have on government fiscal accounts, particularly debt service. This note is accompanied by a template that implements the proposed methodology, which the author hopes will be useful for the work of country economists at the Inter-American Development Bank.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
A common criticism of antipoverty programs is that the high share of administrative (nontransfer) costs substantially reduces their effectiveness. Yet there is surprisingly little rigorous empirical evidence on program costs. This study proposes and implements a replicable methodology for a comparative cost analysis of three similar poverty alleviation programs in Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua, and assesses their cost efficiency. The findings underscore that any credible assessment of cost-efficiency requires a detailed analysis of program cost structures that goes well beyond simply providing aggregate cost information.
