The main objective of the study was to ascertain the presence of the identified critical success factors for lean sustainability in a chemical manufacturing company in Port Elizabeth. The critical success factors that formed part of the research included leadership involvement and commitment, management involvement and commitment, employee engagement and organisational culture. The methodology used was one of a positivistic approach. A questionnaire was utilized and the responses were analyzed using various statistical methods. Based on the results from the analysis, recommendations and conclusions could be drawn. The inferential results of the study indicated that all the critical success factors identified for this study were present within the organisation. However, there were still a large percentage of respondents that remained neutral across all the questions which could indicate reasons why previous attempts in lean implementation failed. The recommendations provided were based on the findings of the study. An implementation strategy was identified and outlined. This strategy and recommendations will assist in providing a sound platform for a sustainable lean initiative within the organisation.

This report describes the implementation of FaDO as a REACT.JS web-based tool. FaDO is a machine learning method for real-time fraud detection: it flags (financial)transactions as either fraudulent or normal in a real-time fashion. FaDO implementssemi-supervised machine learning for this task: in semi-supervised learning, only a small portion of the presented data needs to be labeled. This tool is designed as a filter that works together both with existing automatic fraud filters and human experts. The contribution of this work is a dynamical webpage that implements and demonstrates the approach. Herefore, the REACT framework and the JSX programming language were used. The emphasis of this tool is put on real-time in-browser processing of all data. In order to illustrate the tool, a realistic artificial transaction generator was implemented. The tool then allows to organise different fraud filters to select fraudulent transactions from this high-frequency stream. This report gives also preliminary key performance indicators (KPIs) of the approach. A comparison to a realistic hand-crafted expert system is given.

Effective policy implementation remains a significant challenge for health care administrators and policy makers. Using interpretive description methods, this thesis identified important factors and associated principles that influence the implementation of government directed policy in the hospital setting. These principles were that government directed policy needs to be understood, accepted, validated, integrated, and supported; and that implementation of government directed policy needs to be planned. Consideration of these principles is of value in guiding both policy development and implementation planning to maximize the impact of these policies on clinical practice and patient outcomes.

The purpose of this essay is to propose a comprehensive legal theory of implementation allowing for a deeper understanding of the failures of contemporary Public Administration. Such a theory requires its proper methodology, which is, In fact, the missing link between administrative law and the so-called new sciences. The thesis takes the view that the systemic approach satisfies the above requirements, for it makes possible the broader concepti6n of law, viewed within Its social context. It also makes salient the decision-making element inherent in the implementation process. In this way, it enables the researcher to identify and interrelate important but latent factors of implementation failure, neglected or even overlooked by purely legal or purely empirical implementation studies. This deeper understanding of implementation, drawn from the relevant theoretic systemic models, is a necessary prerequisite for a sound policy making, avoiding the pitfalls of implementation failure. On the other hand, the usefulness of the proposed comprehensive legal study of implementation is shown in the Second Part of the thesis. For this purpose, a characteristic case of administrative failure has been selected and analyzed on the basis of the relevant theoretical model proposed in Part One. The case refers to the failure of urban policy in Greece as expressed in the phenomenon of unauthorized development. It is a case worth studying, since the failure is due to a multiplicity of factors other then the relevant legislation (statute of 17.7.1923), which is of a remarkable quality. The models and findings of the study can be applied to any case of implementation failure, thereby facilitating not only diagnosis but prevention of failures as well.

This explanatory mixed-methods policy analysis describes how school counselors' thoughts and attitudes contribute to the implementation fidelity of the Academic and Career Plan (ACP) policy in a suburban Virginia school division. A quantitative survey investigated counselor thoughts about the policy, implementation behaviors, and counselor ideas about equity issues related to providing college and career planning services to at risk students. Counselor interviews were conducted to provide deeper insight about the street level implementation practices and beliefs of counselors. Findings reveal that counselors place substantial value in the ACP policy and think the process is useful for connecting student interests and postsecondary goals to high school programs of study. Counselors implement the ACP policy with high fidelity because the policy incorporates counselor beliefs such as integrating the career pathway model into the course selection process. Counselors report spending more time assisting higher socioeconomic groups with college planning which results in less time for supporting at risk students. Findings indicate that counselors recognize the need at risk students have for additional support during postsecondary planning but are inhibited by the demands of higher socioeconomic groups. Finally, implications for school leaders related to improving counselor services to at risk students are discussed.

Introduction. The implementation of CRM systems for small companies have not been widely explored by previous literatures, giving me the opportunity to research the system implementation process of Company X. The purpose of this research is to understand how to process implementation of a CRM system within the frame of a small company. Theoretical Framework. The theoretical framework encompasses the concepts of CRM and previous theories on implementation processes: one focusing on business implementation of CRM (Chalmeta, 2006), and another focusing on the IS implementation of CRM (Cooper and Zmud, 1990). The literature represents a ground to understand the implementation process of Company X. Methodology. The paper is an action research, a relevant research design to the implementation process of Company X in real-world settings. The sampling is 1. project documents from the CRM projects implementation, implicating technical records from Company X, and 2. an interview with a key actor of Company X implementation process. Empirical findings. The results showcased different themes and subthemes that arose in the system implementation process of Company X which are correlated in the analysis to previous theories. Analysis. The analysis of this action research explores the question of Company X's implementation stages. Because CRM is a multidisciplinary subject, grouping technology, people and processes creates a systematic perspective over Company X’s results with 2 theories: one emphasizing a business implementation perspective (Chalmeta, 2006), and one information system implementation perspective (Cooper and Zmud, 1990). Conclusion. The implementation process was executed, having a large scope grouping 3 themes: problem discussion, implementation, and management of change (Chalmeta, 2006). These 3 themes revealed implementation stages such as initiation, adoption, adaptation, acceptance, routinization, and infusion (Cooper and Zmud, 1990). The implementation process approached different factors in Company X: user, organization, task, and technology.

Studies in recent years have revealed the challenges involved in deploying ERP solutions due to its complexity. Before attempting to implement ERP systems, it is essential to study various aspects such as project management, training, and change management in detail to manage the associated risks. When an ERP project is undertaken with insufficient planning, it may result in failure to integrate business processes and in substantial financial loss. Research has been pursued to identify critical risk/failure factors that may arise during implementation and the measures that should be taken to manage them. However, there is lack of research in identifying the management of critical risk/failure factor using a structured methodology. This raises a question of ‘can a structured methodology identify and manage critical risk/failure factors and support deploying ERP solutions with a better quality?’ A study of Microsoft Sure Step Methodology is performed to identify critical risk/failure factors that frequently occur during ERP implementation. These factors are derived from 8 articles. On determining critical risk/failure factors, we investigated if Sure Step methodology likely contains procedures that approach these factors.

This study examined the effects of implementing Web-enabled technology systems on the functional role of the community college registrar. The focus on systems implementation included in-house, outsourced, consortia, or combination of implementation strategies. A quantitative and qualitative approach included several interviews and a mailed survey questionnaire. The researcher developed the instrument from human resources position description forms, an adapted administrative Q-sort technique, and a role conflict and ambiguity perception questionnaire. The study targeted the members of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers. The research findings indicated that some aspects of perceived role, role conflict (harmony), and ambiguity (clarity) were different for registrars whose colleges used in-house, outsourced, consortium, or a combination of implementation strategies, and for certain background characteristics. For example, the study identified different levels of involvement for some duties and some differences in collaboration among divisions and departments within institutions and with other organizations. Suggested uses of the research results include professional development programming for more efficient technology implementation. The research instrument could be adapted to study functional role of other job positions, implementation projects, and administrative strategies.Ed.D.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate two important aspects of educational technology: leadership and implementation. The research conducted in this study aimed to assess three aspects of leadership as it relates to educational technology: leadership that supports the technology implementation process, leadership that supports the change associated implementing technology, and leadership that supports a culture that embraces technology. An additional purpose of this study was to evaluate the process, procedures, and actions of implementing educational technology at three Catholic elementary schools in ways that foster a culture that promotes a supportive disposition towards educational technology.
The data from the interviews, document reviews, and site observations revealed that leadership styles and practices that support the adaptation to change and a culture that can embrace technology are vital to the educational technology implementation process. This study confirmed literature that contends that partnership, collaboration, and ownership from all stakeholders are essential conditions in being able to cultivate change and sustain a culture that embraces technology. In addition, this study identified and discusses the significance of effective educational technology leaders, professional development, the establishment of a vision, mission, and plan, proper technology maintenance, and the idea that technology is a resource that is meant to enhance rather than replace teaching and instruction.

Den digitala utvecklingen som pågår i samhället har resulterat i nya arbetssätt för att effektivisera och förbättra organisationers processer. Tidigare har organisationer implementerat systemlösningar för att effektivisera sina verksamheter men i takt med den digitala utvecklingen har fenomenet Robotic Process Automation (RPA) utvecklats. RPA syftar till att effektivisera organisationers verksamheter genom automatisering av processer. Det problemområde som identifierats genom granskning av tidigare litteratur handlar om vad som är specifikt för aktiviteter som genomförs vid RPA-implementationer och vad som karaktäriserar dessa. Studien som genomförts med en kvalitativ ansats syftar därför till att skapa förståelse för implementationer av RPA. Mer specifikt för att kunna identifiera vilka aktiviteter som genomförs och vad som karaktäriserar dessa. Med karaktär på aktiviteterna menas vad, hur och varför den aktiviteten genomförs. Vi efter genomförd studie identifierat åtta stycken karaktärsdrag för aktiviteter vid implementation av RPA.The digital development in the society has resulted in new ways of working in order for companies to improve and streamline their processes. Earlier, organizations have implemented system solutions to increase the efficiency in their operations, but along with the digital development the phenomenon Robotic Process Automation (RPA) has evolved. RPA aims to streamline the operations of companies through processes automation. The problem area that has been identified through review of earlier literature is about what is specific for activities carried out at RPA implementations and what is characterizing these. The study, which has been carried out with a qualitative approach, therefore aims to create an understanding for implementations of RPA. More specifically, in order to be able to identify which activities that are being implemented and how these are being characterized. With characteristics of the activities it is meant what, how and why the activity is implemented. We have, after completed study, identified eight characteristics for activities when implementing RPA.

This change has brought companies new realities in the form of new business opportunities for growth and, at the same time has exposed them to new competitors. This has caused companies to invest many resources in devising new effective strategies to take advantage of the new opportunities, whilst protecting their market positions, which are crucial to their continued economic existence. Effective implementation of strategy has become the goal of many organisations. However, in translating their grand plans into action, unacceptably high rates of failure have been reported among many companies. In most organisations, this responsibility has been left to lower levels of management. The purpose of this research was to establish what factors affected the implementation of strategy and more specifically, what role lower levels of management play in the implementation process. A qualitative study was undertaken where in-depth interviews were held with a senior executive and middle managers of a global company. Eight propositions were posited after a detailed review of literature on strategy implementation and middle managers. These were tested in relation to the results of the research and conclusions were then drawn. The data was analysed using content analysis and frequency tables. The research findings showed that middle managers play a critical role in facilitating the effective implementation of strategy. It also showed that the execution process is fraught with numerous challenges, some of which are lack of sufficient budgets, high staff turnover affecting continuity and the destructive nature of internal competition.

The purpose of this dissertation is the delineation of a new approach, or, more precisely, a new â roleâ and â methodological system,â for those persons engaged in building and managing multi-actor structures, or â networks,â for the purpose of policy implementation. As policy formulation and implementation can be viewed increasingly as taking place inter-organizationally, and consisting of individuals, special-interest groups, public organizations, private organizations, non-profits, etc., none of whom have the individual power to autonomously determine the strategies and actions of all the other actors, policy processes can no longer be viewed as the implementation of ex ante formulated goals, but instead must be seen as an interaction process in which actors exchange information about problems, preferences and means, and trade-off goals and resources. That is, the context of â getting things doneâ in the public sector is changing from a singular organizational context to a multiple-organization network context. Managerially, we must respond accordingly.
While there has been an increasing recognition in the literatures of at least three distinct fields of enquiry [political science, organization theory, and policy science] that such networks are becoming the â realityâ of daily operation, much less has been written attempting to aid the acting administrator to function successfully within this new setting. Even less has been written concerning how to actually build and use a network setting to oneâ s advantage in an implementation endeavor.
We are left in need of a new way to successfully approach implementation through complex multi-actor settings. As it becomes increasingly difficult to administer policy implementation through a single, public organization, the need for new tools and understanding that will enable us to achieve public ends in such complex settings becomes apparent. Such an approach must work to successfully accommodate the increased role of extra-organizational actors, a new role of the administrator as â network facilitator,â and still afford the ability to plan for and carry out project implementation.
Because the invention of such an approach will require the accommodation of a different view of the administrative world (i.e. a more dynamic context, ephemeral definitions, new roles and responsibilities, and a new method to approaching work life), its development cannot constitute a straightforward reshuffling of the boxes of the administrative process, or the simple adoption of some new buzzwords. It demands, instead, that we begin by asking some fundamental ontological (what is reality) and epistemological (how can we know it) questions. It is after addressing these fundamental concerns that this volume will work to build a new approach to functioning proactively in a network setting.
Following a discussion on what the role of â network facilitatorâ means in relation to current understanding of public management, this treatise will describe a new methodological system for use by the administrator playing such a role. The â methodological systemâ for building implementation networks that is advocated here is composed of three overlapping methodologies: 1) â Contextual Assessmentâ - Mapping a Networkâ s Political-Economy; 2) â Stakeholder Analysis & Managementâ â Understanding Who Should be at the Table and Furthering the Conditions for Cooperation; and, 3) â Joint Visioningâ â The Facilitation of Project Planning in a Network Setting.
In the chapter on â contextual assessment,â the reader will be introduced to a method that uses the political economy framework of Wamsley and Zald to derive an interview instrument for use by a recently appointed network facilitator (somebody appointed the responsibility of â getting something doneâ cross-organizationally). Combining the political economic framework with other standard qualitative methods, including gaining entrance, selecting interview type, snowballing, and quota sampling, one should be able to assess the existing political and economic environment surrounding a potential implementation network and, further, begin to select from that environment a first set of stakeholders in the budding implementation network. This method will result in a â conceptual mappingâ of the environment from which one may begin to select potential resources to build an implementation network.
Following that, the reader will be introduced to two methods, that when used together, will allow for the analysis, categorization, and selection of network stakeholders. Taken together, these methods can be referred to as â stakeholder analysis.â It is the successful selection and management of these stakeholders that will result in the formation of a young implementation network.
Finally, the reader will be introduced to a method of â joint-visioning,â a process for working with a set of stakeholders to create a shared understanding of the social/organizational and technical/functional systems required for a new implementation network to function. While the theoretical conception here of joint-visioning is new, the techniques suggested to support this method are probably the least original of the techniques associated with the three methods introduced in this volume (in that they are based on recognized methods of group facilitation). The joint-visioning method proposed here is probably most remarkable for what it is not, corporate strategic planning. A discussion about the problems of adopting corporate strategic planning in the public sector will begin this section, followed by a discussion of why something else, like joint visioning, is probably more appropriate.
Each methodology has been constructed from the ground up by appropriating parts of different methodologies that have been advocated in different areas of application. Specifically, methods, approaches, and understandings have been appropriated from the literatures of corporate management, stakeholder analysis, action research, political economy, community facilitation, knowledge engineering and management, and strategic planning. These methods have been combined and modified to better serve as tools for network establishment and management.
This methodological system has been developed as much from experience as from scholarly analysis. Accordingly, a case study, one that has directly led to the development of many concepts in this system, will be discussed and used for â real-worldâ elaboration of the concepts described. Specifically, each of these methods will be accompanied by an in-depth discussion on how it was applied in the â Travel Shenandoahâ case study. Benefits, as well as problems with the proposed methods will be highlighted. Where appropriate, possible modifications to a method will be suggested.Ph. D.

Procurement 4.0 is the integration of Industry 4.0 related technologies into the procurement process, making tasks automated, information gathering and communication more effective, while establishing interconnected networks. After noticing a lack of studies done on the implementation of Procurement 4.0, the purpose of this article became to close the theoretical gap and extend the understanding of the implementation of Procurement 4.0. The study is done as a systematic content analysis, with the basis in a systematic literature review. Two areas of interest were studied and evaluated, identified effects on the procurement process by implementing Procurement 4.0, and identified Industry 4.0 implementation factors. Altogether, 14 studies were analyzed and evaluated and later put against each other to conclude Procurement 4.0 implementation factors. This study identified the need for managerial support and interaction with the employees, as an important part of the implementation phase. There are also a few factors that are not affected, regardless of if the implementation is concerning Industry 4.0 or Procurement 4.0.

Analizzando la storia del traffico aereo e le tecnologie sviluppate nell’ultimo secolo, arriviamo alla nascita di un valido strumento, nato negli ultimi anni, per aeroporti con un intenso traffico aereo: NexTower.
L’obiettivo di questo studio è valutare, analizzando il metodo di funzionamento, la sua tecnologia, il rapporto costi-benefici e la sua implementazione su aeroporti già dotati di essa, se e come NexTower riesca effettivamente a rispondere a questa problematica e ad avvicinare il mondo del traffico areo all’errore zero.
Grazie al materiale fornito dal dott. Matteo Ergotti, esperto dell'argomento, all’analisi di un precedente incidente, e alle ricerche fatte nei siti preposti del mondo dell’aviazione civile, le risposte alle quale siamo giunti ci hanno mostrato come NexTower possa effettivamente incrementare la Situational Awareness, cioè la consapevolezza del controllore di cosa sta succedendo intorno a lui, attraverso l’uso di un sistema digitalizzato, che consente una presentazione situazionale avanzata e, in generale, una digitalizzazione del processo che permette al controllore di avere informazioni inequivocabili e di qualità.
Su questa base, l’implementazione di NexTower è consigliata anche su ulteriori aeroporti facendo un’analisi costi benefici, in quanto la tecnologia ha un costo e questo è un ottimo strumento per problematiche legate ad aeroporti con elevato numero di traffici e in torri di controllo con una complessa linea operativa, dove la comunicazione tra controllori diventa sempre più difficile.

FlexRay is a new communication protocol which is fast, reliable and flexible and therefore can meet the increasing demands on data communication in the vehicle industry. The protocol is developed by an industrial consortium containing among others BMW, Daimler Chrysler, Motorola and Phillips. Today (May 2009) Hägglunds is using CAN for data transmission in their systems. CAN is getting obsolete and has difficulties in coping with the increasing flow of communication. In this report FlexRay and its communication capacity is studied. A development card and a FlexRay analysator is connected for development studies. About fifty configuration parameters must be fixed for FlexRay before any communication can take place. The parameters are first calculated by hand and then software is produced to make the configuration easier. The price for FlexRay's flexibility is complexity. There are many aspects of the protocol which has to be understood to get full understanding of FlexRay. If problem with the FlexRay communication occur, there are several parameters to examine, and the vast number makes it hard to pinpoint the wrong one. The goal to establish FlexRay communication between the development card and the FlexRay analysator was only partly successful. It was frustrating to stop so close but the time was out. Two application ideas are given examplifying how Hägglunds can transmit data with FlexRay according to their needs.

An implementation project of an ERP system results in large changes. Organizations
that face an ERP implementation project have several risks to
consider in order to avoid problems that cause failures. The purpose of
this research is to extend existing models and create a method for implementation
of ERP systems. The method has then been employed to an
ongoing project at the department of Procurement and Supply at Ericsson
Mobile Platforms in Lund. Objectives for the research are to consider
which implementation strategy can be used and how an organization can
minimize risks.
The research approach and methodology is influenced by the qualitative
research method since it was necessary to gather qualitative facts instead
of quantitative facts. Included is also a case study due to the research is
executed within Ericsson Mobile Platforms in Lund.
There are two main opposite implementation strategies, Big Bang and
Step-by-Step. The choice of implementation strategy depends on number
of factors like the size of the organizations, complexity and resources.
A method of ERP implementation has been put forward as a result of the
integrated models. The method includes an overall model and a check list.
Risk identification is a problem that many implementation project faces, a
way to solve this is to make a careful risk analysis, a risk matirx with several
identified risks are putted forward throughout this study.

The fundamental problem of navigation is to find the initial north angle of the body with respect to the reference frame. Determination of the north angle of the body frame is required in spacecraft, aircraft, sea-craft, land-craft and missile control and guidance.
This thesis discusses implementation and comparison of four northfinding techniques. These are GPS (Global Positioning System) based with integer search, GPS based with Kalman filter, accelerometer based and IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) based techniques. The north angle is determined by the
processing of difference measurements of the GPS carrier phase between two antennas at GPS based northfinding techniques. Carrier phase ambiguity resolution is the main problem in GPS based techniques. Since, GPS receiver
measures only the fractional part of the carrier phase. Therefore, integer part remains unknown. Two distinct ideas are applied to solve carrier phase ambiguities in two techniques. One of them is integer search on single phase
difference. Suitable integer sets are checked on the cost function which is constructed from the single phase difference between two antennas. The other technique uses integer estimator and attitude estimator with Kalman filter rely on
double difference phase measurements which are obtained from carrier phase differences of two antennas and two satellites at one instant. To test the GPS based techniques, a realistic GPS emulator is implemented. GPS emulator provides typical GPS raw navigation data including satellite positions,
pseudoranges and carrier phases. Accelerometer based northfinding technique is composed of a vertically placed linear accelerometer on a rotating platform. The
north angle is found by Coriolis acceleration due to Earth and platform rotation. Implementation problems of this technique in practice are discussed. IMU based northfinding technique has inertial sensor components such as gyroscopes and
accelerometers to sense the Earth rotation rate and gravitational force respectively. The north angle is found by the processing of these inertial sensors output. Real set-up is established to test the IMU based technique.

Since most protocols use a limited set of basic functions to define the protocol, the feasibility of runtime reconfigurable network protocol processor is studied in this thesis for next generation of Ericsson’s EMCAs (Ericsson Multi Core Architecture). For this purpose, common blocks between two protocols of 10G Ethernet and CPRI4.2 was implemented in RTL level. For block level reconfigurability, generic function blocks are implemented in SystemVerilog, tested in ModelSim and synthesized in Synopsys 28nm technology. To achieve system level reconfigurability, muxing structure is used for blocks communications with an enable controller function. The results presented in this work, confirm that it is possible to implement a runtime reconfigurable protocol processor in RTL level. This work was performed at Ericsson AB, Digital ASIC Group at Kista, Stockholm, Sweden during the time period of September 2013 to May 2014.

Processing decision information is a constitutive part in a number of applicationsin Computer Science fields. In general, decision information can be used to deduce the relationship between a certain context and a certain decision. Decision information is represented by a decision model that captures this information. Frequently used examples of decision models are decision tables and decision trees. The choice of an appropriate decision model has an impact on application performance in terms of memory consumption and execution time. High memory expenses can possibly occur due to redundancy in a decision model; and high execution time is often a consequence of an unsuitable decision model. Applications in different domains try to overcome these problems by introducing new data structures or algorithms for implementing decision models. These solutions are usually domain-specificand hard to transfer from one domain to another. Different application domains of Computer Science often process decision information in a similar way and, hence, have similar problems. We should thus be able to present a unifying approach that can be applicable in all application domains for capturing and manipulating decision information. Therefore, the goal of this thesis is (i) to suggest a general structure(Decision Algebra) which provides a common theoretical framework that captures decision information and defines operations (signatures) for storing, accessing, merging, approximating, and manipulating such information along with some general algebraic laws regardless of the used implementation. Our Decision Algebra allows defining different construction strategiesfor decision models and data structures that capture decision information as implementation variants, and it simplifies experimental comparisons between them. Additionally, this thesis presents (ii) an implementation of Decision Algebra capturing the information in a non-redundant way and performing the operations efficiently. In fact, we show that existing decision models that originated in the field of Data Mining and Machine Learning and variants thereof as exploited in special algorithms can be understood as alternative implementation variants of the Decision Algebra by varying the implementations of the Decision Algebra operations. Diabetes Guidelines Implementation Toolkit is a capstone project aimed to help the Grady North Fulton Health Center to implement the American Diabetes Association (ADA) “Standards in Medical Care in Diabetes, 2011” guidelines. This toolkit can also be used to implement the diabetes guidelines in any other primary or community healthcare facility to improve diabetes care.
Diabetes can affect many parts of the body and can lead to serious complications such as blindness, kidney damage, and lower-limb amputations. Working together, people with diabetes, their support network, and their health care providers can reduce the occurrence of these and other diabetes complications by controlling the levels of blood glucose, blood pressure, blood lipids, and by receiving other preventive care practices in a timely manner.
Once the decision to put into practice the evidence-based diabetes guidelines has been made, this implementation toolkit will serve as a guide to help go through the process of implementation. The toolkit will suggest practical ways to implement the use of the guidelines using a stepwise approach, resources and template materials such as information handouts, flow sheets, referral forms, sample patient letters, etc. will be provided in the toolkit to facilitate the implementation.
The final goal of the implementations is to improve the delivery of effective preventive health care services and promote diabetes preventive behaviors in order to prevent diabetes, its complications and disabilities, and the burden associated with the disease.

The thesis has investigated how Sandvik Coromant could implement the SMED principle on one of their grinders groups and what improvements it would lead to. The aim of the thesis is to identify the current situation and investigate how their setup times would be affected by SMED. The work initiated with a literature analysis about the SMED principles and then proceeded with an analysis of the current situation where the activity was time mapped. The analysis consisted of time trials of the process that the thesis would include. The time studies revealed opportunities for structural improvements to create environment for a more structured process. Conversations and interviews with operators during the studies and monitoring of the processes generated a number of improvement opportunities. When improvement suggestions were generated and priorities of which was to be implemented, Sandvik Coromant gave the implementation of principal improvement proposals the highest priority The work continued in that direction and took out routines and suggestions on an updated workplace. This has generated verified set-up time reductions of 68% in the most time consuming process. The improvements that have been implemented during the thesis has not reduced set-up time to under ten minutes but if the client implements all components of the action plan, the time will be approached. Besides looking at setup time the order change process has been examined and there are parts of that process that can be streamlined. To implement the suggested changes will create opportunities to reduce the order replacements time by over 70%. This means substantial savings for Sandvik Coromant. Even if only a part of the improvement proposals will be implemented it will lead to drastic improvements with average setup time reduced drastically.

The San Diego Naval Postgraduate Cohort developed an architecture and modeled it in an effort to demonstrate enhanced collaboration capability between U.S. and Coalition partners with an improved ability to collect, process and share information for joint decision making and joint tactical employment of resources between U.S. and Coalition countries, and to fully integrate Coalition operations. The modeling approach focused on integrating a Sensor grid, C2 grid, and Engagement grid. As a result, enabled Network-Centric warfare for Coalition Forces shows a significant increase in capabilities. The problem of computing K shortest loopless paths, or ranking of the K shortest loopless paths between a pair of given vertices in a network is a well-studied generalization of shortest path problem. The K shortest paths problem determines not only one shortest path but the K best shortest paths from s to t in an increasing order of weight of the paths. Yen’s algorithm is known to be the efficient and widely used algorithm for determining K shortest loopless paths. Here, we introduce a new algorithm by modifying the Yen’s algorithm in the following way: instead of removing the vertices and the edges from the graph, we store them in two different sets. Then we modified the Dijkstra’s algorithm by taking these two sets into consideration. Thus the algorithm applies glass box methodology by using the modified Dijkstra’s algorithm for our dedicated purpose. Thus the efficiency is improved. The computational results conducted over different datasets, shows the proposed algorithm has better performance results.

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technique in communication system has been widely researched. Compared with single-input single-output (SISO) communication, its properties of higher throughput, more e?cient spectrum and usage make it one of the most significant technology in modern wireless communications. In MIMO system, sphere detection is the fundamental part. The purpose of traditional sphere detection is to achieve the maximum likelihood (ML) demodulation of the MIMO system. However, with the development of advanced forward error correction (FEC) techniques, such as the Convolutional code, Turbo code and LDPC code, the sphere detection algorithms that can provide soft information for the outer decoder attract more interests recently. Considering the computing complexity of generating the soft information, it is important to develop a high-speed VLSI architecture for MIMO detection. The first part of this thesis is about MIMO sphere detection algorithms. Two sphere detection algorithms are introduced. The depth first Schnorr-Euchner (SE) algorithm which generates the ML detection solution and the width first K-BEST algorithm which only generates the nearly-ML detection solution but more efficient in implementation are presented. Based on these algorithms, an improved nearly-ML algorithm with lower complexity and limited performance lose, compared with traditional K-BEST algorithms, is presented. The second part is focused on the hardware design. A 4*4 16-QAM MIMO detection system which can generate both soft information and hard decision solution is designed and implemented in FPGA. With the fully pipelined and parallel structure, it can achieve a throughput of 3.7 Gbps. In this part, the improved nearly-ML algorithm is implmented as a detector to generat both the hard output and candidate list. Then, a soft information calculation block is designed to succeed the detector and produce the log-likelihood ratio (LLR) values for every bit as the soft output.

The thesis focuses on the Implementation of Executive Information system (EIS). The thesis will discuss the approaches of implementing EIS, what are organizational barriers need to be overcome, and what are the objectives for the EIS implementation. The key component of EIS is the performance measures. The approach for development of the performance measures and how they are used in EIS for performance management will also be discussed. The thesis will also focuses specifically on implementation of EIS in PETRONAS and the results of the implementation. Survey results indicates that PETONAS is experiencing some issues that need to be addressed. These include issues of the system performance and more critically the doubt that some of the managers have on the usefulness of the performance measures developed and the usefulness of the EIS in general.

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze mechanisms that implement a social objective for two environments in which agents have incomplete information about the others’ characteristics. Agents’ beliefs about the characteristics of any particular agent are common knowledge. We consider the case where monetary transfers or costly signals are undesirable or unavailable. Chapter 1 gives an overview of the contents of the thesis. Chapter 2 studies mechanisms for resolution of bilateral conflict over a prize of common value. This conflict may be settled by a peaceful agreement or may lead to a socially inefficient outcome of war. We model explicitly the cost of war as dependent upon opponents' types which are private information. The social choice function is the probability of peaceful resolution. We assess the chances for peace in the case of no communication and a simultaneous choice by agents whether to agree to a given split proposal. We compare these chances with the probability of peaceful settlement achieved by a mechanism which solicits partial disclosure of private information. We require the truthful revelation of this information to be a dominant strategy for agents in the game induced by the mechanism. In this framework we show that unmediated communication always improves the probability of peace upon the agreement game. In chapter 3 we study a cardinal mechanism for allocation of heterogeneous indivisible goods among agents with private valuations. We assume that agents and the mechanism designer hold the same beliefs about the ex ante distribution of the multidimensional types. We relax the dominant strategy requirement for the truthful revelation to the requirement of Bayesian incentive compatibility. We provide a necessary condition for Bayesian incentive compatibility of such mechanisms for any finite number of goods and agents. We characterize the set of Bayesian incentive compatible mechanisms for the case of three objects and three agents and we analyze efficiency and fairness properties of these mechanisms. In particular, we show that in this framework an ex post efficient and envy-free mechanism may not exist for some systems of beliefs.

This thesis aims to develop efficient implementation techniques for functional programming languages using novel technology arising from recent work on Linear Logic, the Geometry of Interaction, and Optimal Reductions. The philosophy behind the implementations that we consider is that they should arise naturally from some underlying semantics of the language. We are then in a setting where correctness becomes a triviality, and semantic tools are at hand to assist directly with any optimisations, transformations, etc. that we may apply. In other words our interests are to implement the theory directly, rather than to find a theory that fits the practice; putting an engineering perspective on the theory. We begin in Chapter 1 with general motivations for the use of the semantic tools that we will utilise, in particular the Geometry of Interaction. We go on in Chapter 2 to give basic definitions and background for the ideas used in this thesis. In Chapter 3 we will look at translating the A-calculus in to Linear Logic proof structures which will be the starting point of all our implementations. We then go onto extracting the result from these proof structures. Chapter 4 takes a detailed look at the notions related to the Geometry of Interaction, namely Paths, Labels and Types. Lafont's Interaction nets provide the first implementation of Linear Logic that we shall consider in Chapter 5. We give one very simple implementation of the A-calculus as an interaction net, and work through the proofs of correctness using ideas from Girard's Geometry of Interaction. We address the problem of Levy's theory of optimality too; however, we stress that this is not one of our goals. We are interested in efficient implementations of functional languages from a very practical point of view. An alternative implementation is given in Chapter 6 which is based on data-flow. We show that we can set up a computational interpretation of the Geometry of Interaction that mimics cut-elimination in the A-calculus. This chapter concludes by giving several very simple concrete implementations of this data flow on a standard von-Neumann architecture. More specifically, we give a coding of the Geometry of Interaction in assembly language. We conclude our ideas in Chapter 7 and suggest some further extensions to this work. In particular, we look at Hybrid systems, derived from combinations of the ideas presented in the two previous chapters.

Det här arbetets syfte är att utvärdera olika implementationer av grundläggande mekanismer inom området hierarkiska tillståndsmaskiner. De grundläggande mekanismerna, det vill säga representationerna för tillstånd och händelser, implementeras på fyra olika sätt, och de hierarkiska tillståndsmaskinerna utformas utifrån de möjligheter som de grundläggande mekanismernas implementation ger. I arbetet implementeras de hierarkiska tillståndsmaskinerna i programmeringsspråket C++. Dessa hierarkiska tillståndsmaskiners tidseffektivitet i transitioner per sekund mäts genom ett experiment. Utvärderingen av experimentet visar att den hierarkiska tillståndsmaskinen som använder arv i C++ för att koppla samman tillstånden och som utnyttjar objekttillstånd och medlemsfunktionshändelser kan utföra runt 780 000 transitioner per sekund. Den är därför den tidseffektivaste av de fyra hierarkiska tillståndsmaskinerna. Utvärderingen indikerar också att den hierarkiska tillståndsmaskinen som använder en artificiell trädstruktur för att koppla samman tillstånden och som används genom komposition är lättast att använda.

ABSTRACT The increasingly competitive nature of the manufacturing industry has forced manufacturers to examine alternatives to traditional management philosophies. Although lean's success had been proven it was not uncommon for companies that opt to implement lean concepts to meet with mixed results and sometimes even outright failure. The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between organizational characteristics and issues associated with lean implementation. The study identified the following organizational characteristics (a) organizational leadership, (b) organizational culture, and (c) organizational change and examined the role each played in lean implementation efforts. The study also looked at sixteen individual (d) intrinsic organizational characteristics to determine the extent to which each impacted lean implementation efforts. The study utilized both qualitative and quantitative research tools. The qualitative component utilized both document analysis and interviews. The interviews were conducted with area business leaders who were members of the Department of Technology's Industrial Advisory Committee at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. The quantitative component utilized a separate on-line survey that was developed and administered to members of the Illinois Manufacturers' Association. Results indicated highly capable leadership was the number one indicator of success for organizations that made the transition to lean. Other key factors included communication channels with an effective feedback system, the development of collaborative relationships between management and employees, being well versed in the practice of change management, and understanding how to effect change of cultural mores within an organization. The implications of understanding how the organizational characteristics discussed in the study affected lean implementation empowered organizations to effect change more successfully. The goal of implementing lean successfully required much more than a step by step process of implementing the lean tools in a particular order. It required a broad understanding of the things which cannot be seen; things such as, what constitutes highly capable leadership, knowing how to change the mores of organizational culture, and understanding how to overcome the barriers to successful change management. Understanding these complex relationships provided the basis upon which to advance lean implementation theory where it had been only marginally successful.

Implementationer av nya obligatoriska system är något många verksamheter står inför eller genomgår. Mycket forskning har bedrivits inom området men med litet fokus på obligatoriska system och stort fokus på att förutspå acceptans före implementation. Måttet av acceptans har tidigare mätts genom det faktiska användandet av systemet vilket i en implementation av ett obligatoriskt system inte är ett relevant mätvärde. Syftet med studien var att utreda vilka faktorer som spelar störst roll vid en implementation av ett obligatoriskt system. För att undersöka detta har två enkätundersökningar, en före och en efter implementation, genomförts. Dessa enkätundersökningar har även kompletterats med ostrukturerade intervjuer samt en semistrukturerad intervju. Ett teoretiskt ramverk har tagits fram med hjälp av en inledande litteraturstudie i ämnet. Studien visar att information och förväntningar på systemet är det som ger mest genomslag för hur användarna uppfattar systemet, men att användandet av systemet inte påverkas nämnvärt av användarnas uppfattning.

This study investigates the implementation phase of reorganization. Although determination of reorganization success or failure is a rather intractable problem, this study sheds light on this issue by performing a structured study of the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) reports to answer the question, what do GAO reports say about the implementation of federal agency reorganization? More specifically this study explores what portion of reorganization plans are implemented, what are both expected and unexpected costs, and what issues occurred during the implementation process. GAO reports on reorganization are used as a data source to gather information on a number of implementations of varying sizes. Content analysis is the tool to be used to extract data over a large number of implementations. This study provides a more nuanced view of implementation by evaluating a number of reorganization implementations as a data set. As Destler (1981a) said, 'For reorganization, as for any other change, implementation is the bottom line. Without it, the whole exercise is show and symbolism' (p. 155)Findings of this study reinforce observations on reorganization and implementation by many scholars. The results of the content analysis show the precepts of classical organization theory still influence implementation of reorganization. Economy and efficiency were found to be motivations in a large majority of reorganizations. This study also showed the primacy of personnel issues in implementation, especially when implementation resulted in a net loss of personnel. The desire to avoid layoffs combined with reduction in force procedures exacerbated uncertainty in implementation. Neither the implementation schedule nor the resulting workforce was completely under agency control in many cases. Finally, this study showed the conflict between advocates of less government and advocates of reinventing government was evidenced in reorganization implementation.Ph. D.

Aparte del primer capítulo que es la introducción, la tesis consiste de tres ensayos. En el segundo capítulo estoy analizando el problema de implementación en el mercado de bienes indivisibles. El modelo trata de asignar un conjunto de bienes indivisibles a los agentes donde cada agente tiene que pagar el precio por el bien que reciba y la suma de los precios tiene que ser igual a un valor determinado. Un ejemplo estándar es el problema de inquilinos donde ha de determinar quien recibe que habitación y que precio tiene que pagar dado que la suma de los precios de las habitaciones que los inquilinos pagan por un piso tiene que ser igual al arriendo. El objetivo consiste en, desconociendo las verdaderas valoraciones de los bienes que tengan los agentes, seleccionar la asignación de los bienes y los precios correspondientes que sea eficaz y que los agentes no tengan envidia. En general, los agentes no tendrán los incentivos para revelar sus verdaderas valuaciones sino otras que permitirían conseguir una asignación más favorable. Como consecuencia, los criterios de eficiencia y sin-envidia no estarán logrados. Sin embargo, he demostrado que las posibilidades de los agentes manipular las asignaciones y los precios están limitadas en el equilibrio. Es decir, he demostrado que seleccionando la asignación con los precios correspondientes que sea eficaz y sin-envidia con respecto a las valoraciones anunciadas, y no necesariamente verdaderas, asegura que en los equilibrios de Nash y Nash Fuerte la asignación seleccionada también es eficaz y sin-envidia con respecto a las valoraciones verdaderas.El tercer capítulo se trata de subastas cuando hay un comprador dominante que desalienta la participación de otros compradores en la subasta, y como la consecuencia los precios suban poco. El objetivo consiste en comparar varias formas de subastas que han sido diseñadas para fomentar la participación. En literatura se han propuesto una mezcla de la subasta inglesa y holandesa. El uso de la subasta holandesa beneficia a los participantes desfavorecidos y por lo tanto aumenta su participación y los ingresos del vendedor. Eso ocurre a coste de eficiencia, se puede ganar la subasta no teniendo la valoración más alta entre los compradores. Nosotros hemos propuesto una subasta alternativa para fomentar la participación y que consiste de la subasta inglesa en dos etapas. En la primera etapa se fija un precio de reserva y si nadie está dispuesto a pagarlo hay la segunda etapa sin precio de reserva. Los participantes potenciales en la segunda etapa aprenden que los que ya han entrado en la primera etapa no tienen las valoraciones altas, por lo tanto tienen mayor probabilidad de ganar. Eso, en vez, atrae mayor participación. Eligiendo un precio de reserva apropiado genera al vendedor más ingresos y además es más eficaz que la otra subasta.
El último capítulo consiste del análisis empírico de las subastas que lleva a cabo la compañía "Bosques Estatales de Letonia" para vender el derecho de talar los árboles en los bosques del estado a empresas privadas. La compañía en cada subasta ofrece varios lotes de bosque, y los lotes se venden en secuencia. Los compradores que estén interesados en la dicha lote, compiten en la subasta inglesa. La teoría económica sugiere que el orden en que se venden los lotes es importante cuando los lotes son heterogéneos - los ingresos del vendedor son mayores si empiezan con los lotes más valiosos y venden en el orden decreciente por valor. Mi objetivo es contrastar la dicha hipótesis. El análisis econométrico prosigue en dos etapas. Primero, dado el supuesto que se vende la lote siempre y cuando su valor supera el precio inicial que el vendedor ha fijado, he estimado un modelo de Probit para inferir las valuaciones de los lotes. En la segunda etapa yo contrasto la hipótesis que el orden de la venta no afecta los ingresos del vendedor y no encuentro la evidencia para rechazar la dicha hipótesis.
Besides the introductory chapter, my thesis consists of three essays. In the first essay of my thesis I consider the problem of assigning agents to indivisible objects in which each agent must pay the price of the object he gets and prices must sum to a given number. A standard example is the housemate problem where a group of tenants is sharing an apartment and they must decide who gets which room and how much each must pay, subject to the constraint that the sum of their contributions must equal the rent of the apartment. Previous research concentrated on mechanisms that select an assignment-price pair, which is envy-free and efficient, assuming the knowledge of agents' valuations. However, it is well known that for any mechanism agents have incentives to misrepresent their true valuations if it leads to higher utility. I treat the assignment problem as a game and prove that the mechanism, in which agents are simply required to announce their (possibly false) valuations and an envy-free allocation is selected with respect to these announced valuations, will implement the set of envy-free allocations both in Nash and strong Nash. This means that, in equilibrium, the selected allocation will be envy-free also with respect to the true preferences. I demonstrate that by choosing an efficient and envy-free allocation a social planner does not need to worry about strategic issues, that is, the scope for agents to manipulate the allocations is limited in equilibrium. This result provides a justification on strategic grounds for the use of social choice functions selecting envy-free allocations.
The second essay studies auctions when the presence of a strong buyer deters the entry of other potential bidders, preventing competition in the auction and leading to a low sales price. For example, the issue arose during third-generation mobile communication licenses auctions where incumbent firms could effectively discourage entry by threatening to outbid new entrants. As a response, the so-called Anglo-Dutch auction has been proposed to promote entry since the Dutch auction favors weak bidders relative to a pure English auction. However, that is achieved at the cost of efficiency. We propose an alternative two-stage English auction in order to encourage entry. In the first stage there is a reserve price, and if nobody bids at that price, then a second stage is conducted without the reserve price. Potential entrants of the second stage learn that those who entered in the first stage but did not bid have low valuations. This provides incentives for weak bidders to enter in the second stage. We show that by setting an appropriate reserve price it is possible to generate higher revenues for the seller than in the Anglo-Dutch auction and at the same time maintain efficiency. The latter implies that the two-stage English auction is superior to the Anglo-Dutch auction both from the seller's perspective and from a social welfare point of view.
Many real life auctions sell more than one object; objects are usually different and often are sold sequentially; hence the questions arise of how the order of sales affects revenue and what the optimal order of sales is. The last essay addresses these issues. It consists of an empirical analysis of auctions conducted by the Latvian state company selling rights to harvest timber in state forests. In each auction the company offers several lots of forest, and they are sold sequentially through oral, ascending price auctions. Theory suggests that the revenues of the seller are highest when objects are sold in the order of decreasing value. My objective is to test empirically this hypothesis. Since we do not observe the valuations of lots the bidders have, first I estimate them, using a discrete choice model, based on the assumption that a lot will be sold if and only if its valuation exceeds the reserve price. Next, I test the order of sales effect on the revenues of the seller. I do not reject the hypothesis that the order does not have effect on the revenues of seller.

Problem Area: The American company Enron was the seventh largest company notated on the stock market when it went bankrupt due to extensive accounting frauds in December 2001. By manipulating the financial reports, the management of Enron was able to hide huge debts through transactions with external companies. Therefore, they were able to deceive the public by reporting huge profits while the company, in reality, was generating a negative result. As a result of the bankruptcy, 40 billion dollars disappeared and tens of thousands of employees lost their jobs and pension savings. After the Enron scandal, further accounting frauds were discovered in the US, such as WorldCom and Tyco. The WorldCom bankruptcy is, as of today, the largest bankruptcy in the world. Following the scandals and the accounting frauds in a number US companies, the US congress passed a law – the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX).
Purpose: The purpose of the study is to examine how companies in Sweden have managed to implement SOX Sec. 404 – for ensuring internal control. The researchers will examine how different Swedish companies have approached the issue and how they have chosen to implement SOX sec. 404 in their organisation. Have some companies been more effective in their implementation than others and why? Limitations: SOX cover several areas around internal control and reporting. The authors will mainly study Sec. 404, which treats internal control over financial reporting, and is the section that has demanded most effort to comply with. Methodology: The study was conducted by a qualitative research method by conducting personal interviews with respondents from three different companies in Sweden. All of the participating companies in the study are obliged to comply with SOX. Conclusion: The researchers in this study have identified differences in the approach towards SOX-compliance by the participating organisations. The lack of how to implement guidance and the different approaches taken by companies towards SOX compliance may suggest that there is no supreme implementation guide that is suitable for all companies in order to achieve compliance. Proposals for Further Research: As the implementation phase just recently was completed the authors would like to find out how companies are sustaining compliance in the future. Researchers could focus on sustainable compliance as compared to this study where sustainable compliance is merely limited to one section. In addition, it would be interesting to carry out an in-depth study on one company to evaluate their implementation on a deeper level. This would give the researcher a deeper understanding which is more difficult to achieve when conducting a comparative study.
