Abstract (sommario):
Illustration is always used as an example to make the written text or the utterance more clear in general. In Winarski’s opinion (1997), one picture equals thousands of words. That is to say, illustrations are capable to express the meaning of unfamiliar language or a great deal of information in the reading material by vivid pictures, tables, drawings, paintings and so on. As a result, illustrations are applied to many different fields including English language teaching. Based upon Song’s 3 types of illustration classification (2005), decorational illustrations, explainable illustrations and promotive illustrations, this paper tries to investigate the effects of illustrations on the reading performance of senior high school students with different cognitive styles (field-dependence, field-mix and field-independence) in the process of English reading. The result shows that: 1). There is a significant correlation between illustration types and reading performance in terms of field-dependent students. The coefficient of explainable illustration to reading peformance is the highest, while the lowest coefficient is decorational illustration. 2). As for field-mixed participants, their reading performance is also closely associated with illustrations. However, the coefficients are lower than that of field-dependent participants. Decorational illustration has no obviously relation to reading performance. Explainable illustration also reaches the highest coefficient, and it can better improve student’ reading score than promotive illustration. 3). Speaking of field-independent students, no correlation has been found between decorational, promotive illustration and reading performance. However, there exists a significant correlation between explainable illustration and reading performance for field-independent participants.

Abstract (sommario):
Large ornithopod dinosaur footprints have been confirmed on all continents except Antarctica since the 19th century. However, oversplitting problems in ichnotaxa have historically been observed in these footprints. To address these issues and distinguish between validated ichnotaxa, this study employed convolutional neural network-based Xception transfer learning to automatically classify ornithopod dinosaur tracks. The machine learning model was trained for 162 epochs (i.e., the number of full cycles of all training data through the model) using 274 data images, excluding horizontally flipped images. The trained model accuracy was 96.36%, and the validation accuracy was 92.59%. We demonstrate the performance of the machine learning model using footprint illustrations that are not included in the training dataset. These results show that the machine learning model developed in this study can properly classify footprint illustration data for large ornithopod dinosaurs. However, the quality of footprint illustration data (or images) inherently affects the performance of our machine learning model, which performs better on well-preserved footprints. In addition, because the developed machine-learning model is a typical supervised learning model, it is not possible to introduce a new label or class. Although this study used illustrations rather than photos or 3D data, it is the first application of machine-learning techniques at the academic level for verifying the ichnotaxonic assignments of large ornithopod dinosaur footprints. Furthermore, the machine learning model will likely aid researchers to classify the large ornithopod dinosaur footprint ichnotaxa, thereby safeguarding against the oversplitting problem.

Abstract (sommario):
In the process of garment production, obtaining and identifying garment illustrations, transforming them into the required information, and then implementing the information into automated production can improve the production efficiency to a great extent. However, the research on recognition of garment illustration and pattern image is mostly based on category classification, but very little on the identification of parts and details. The Inception module in the GoogleNet Inception and its improvement development models enhance parameter utilization, accelerate computation, and have no special requirements for hardware. The Mask R-CNN, a convolutional neural network, is a modified model from based on Faster R-CNN for instance splitting tasks. Based on these two models, this paper proposes a method to identify garment illustrations using a self-built database. The experimental results show that this method outperforms the related algorithms.

The scientific investigation of geoscience includes data collection, sample classification and semantic, consisting of a large number of images. An image-text search model that can well assist the research work of geoscience. However, the existing image-text datasets are mainly in the field of daily life and lack academic image-text datasets. In order to help geoscience researchers to investigate through the image and text, and to provide a new benchmark for researchers in the fields of data mining and information retrieval, this paper proposes a novel parallel material of geoscience academic illiustrateion and caption (GSAIC) based on GAKG, which contains over 900,000 illustrations of earth science papers and the corresponding captions. GSAIC filters out high-quality illustrations and captions through a classifier, and with the support of experts annotations. The GSAIC will support several tasks Including text search for images, retrieving corresponding images or papers based on academic image descriptions and academic illustration classification tasks, for geoscience scenarios Finally, both the GSAIC benchmark and classifier are publicly accessible.

Abstract (sommario):
In this paper, we propose a hierarchical multi-modal multi-label attribute classification model for anime illustrations using a graph convolutional network (GCN). Our focus is on the challenging task of multi-label attribute classification, which requires capturing subtle features intentionally highlighted by creators of anime illustrations. To address the hierarchical nature of these attributes, we leverage hierarchical clustering and hierarchical label assignments to organize the attribute information into a hierarchical feature. The proposed GCN-based model effectively utilizes this hierarchical feature to achieve high accuracy in multi-label attribute classification. The contributions of the proposed method are as follows. Firstly, we introduce GCN to the multi-label attribute classification task of anime illustrations, enabling the capturing of more comprehensive relationships between attributes from their co-occurrence. Secondly, we capture subordinate relationships among the attributes by adopting hierarchical clustering and hierarchical label assignment. Lastly, we construct a hierarchical structure of attributes that appear more frequently in anime illustrations based on certain rules derived from previous studies, which helps to reflect the relationships between different attributes. The experimental results on multiple datasets show that the proposed method is effective and extensible by comparing it with some existing methods, including the state-of-the-art method.

Abstract (sommario):
Objective To examine the impact of 2-dimensional (2D) illustrations and 3-dimensonal (3D)–printed anatomic models of the frontal sinuses according to the International Frontal Sinus Anatomy Classification in the education of otolaryngology and radiology residents. Study Design A crossover study design with half of the study participants randomized to the 2D illustration intervention first and the other half randomized to the 3D-printed model first. Setting Regularly scheduled resident didactic lectures at a tertiary care center. Subjects and Methods Forty-one otolaryngology and radiology residents were assessed with pre- and postintervention questionnaires that included subjective and objective methods of assessment. Results Overall, there was a statistically significant improvement in total number of answers correct and in confidence score between the pre- and postintervention assessments ( P < .0001). The primary outcome of order of intervention (ie, 2D → 3D vs 3D → 2D) did not result in statistically significant differences in postevaluation scores. In regard to the secondary outcome of learner preference for educational modality, radiology residents favored the 2D illustrations to understand anatomic relationships, while otolaryngology residents preferred the 3D model to be more helpful in surgical planning ( P = .0075). Conclusion There is no difference between 2D-illustrated and 3D-printed International Frontal Sinus Anatomy Classification anatomic models in overall educational outcome, despite the preference of learners. Together, these models can be used as helpful tools in frontal sinus education for otolaryngology and radiology trainees.

Abstract (sommario):
The family Orbitolinidae originates with Martin (1890), who described the external and internal test features of orbitolinids from what can now understood to be the Lower Cretaceous of western Borneo. Overlooked in subsequent literature, this description includes the illustration of a transverse section passing through a megalospheric embryo of a specimen assigned to Orbitolina concava Lamarck and regarded as being Cenomanian in age. However, the illustration, description, and dimensions refer this specimen to Palorbitolina lenticularis (Blumenbach, 1805) comprising a relatively large, subdivided chamber (= periembryonic chambers) surrounding a large ‘Centralkammer’. It is worth mentioning that the original illustration by Blumenbach (1805) from the Lower Cretaceous of south-eastern France as Madreporites lenticularis did not show this taxonomically important feature in the modern classification of the Orbitolinidae and with special respect to the subfamily Orbitolininae. The re-interpretation of Martin’s illustrations and a literature review challenge Cenomanian ages ascribed to orbitolinid occurrences in Borneo.

Abstract (sommario):
Although the progress of modern information technology and society has made modern junior high school English textbooks gradually develop in the direction of multi-modality, in actual teaching, teachers make less use of textbook illustrations and have difficulties in using them. Based on the two dimensions of classification and function of illustrations, the article Save the Sharks! from the Unit 13 Reading section of the Grade 9 English textbook of PEP is used as an example to discuss the effective use of textbook illustrations in reading teaching in conjunction with actual teaching. Teachers can use the illustrations in the three stages of reading, namely pre-reading, while-reading and post-reading, to help them enrich the classroom content and present a better quality of reading classroom.

Abstract (sommario):
In this article we focus on the problem of supervised classifying of the spatio-temporal Gaussian random field observation into one of two classes, specified by different mean parameters. The main distinctive feature of the proposed approach is allowing the class label to depend on spatial location as well as on time moment. It is assumed that the spatio-temporal covariance structure factors into a purely spatial component and a purely temporal component following AR(p) model. In numerical illustrations with simulated data, the influence of the values of spatial and temporal covariance parameters to the derived error rates for several prior probabilities models are studied.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper explores the representation of political powers in the front-page illustrations of Early Modern Spanish newspapers. The knowledge about Early Modern European journalism has undergone a remarkable development in recent decades: however, research on the form of the first newspapers is scarce. The paper presents a corpus of 162 news pamphlets and gazettes published in Seville between 1618 and 1635. An analysis follows considering the presence of engravings on the cover page and their classification. This insight leads to the conclusion that the image did not play a decisive role to draw the attention of readers, even in sensationalist news pamphlets. The illustration is used not to present the events narrated but to stress the genre of the print; about half of the corpus prints have a cover engraving that reproduces a coat of arms, associated with the monarchical power in two thirds of the news sheets: Spanish journalism experienced a growing officialization, prior to the appearance of the first official newspaper of the kingdom, Gazeta Nueva (1661). Also, a small group of news sheets with ecclesiastical or nobiliary coat of arms reveals the interest of local powers in the flourishing of the journalistic market

Abstract (sommario):
SummaryA system for the classification of pelvic fractures in small animals is described. The system is based on a review of 556 cases and adapted from the AO/ASIF classification system for fractures of long bones in humans and small animals. A coding method was created to encompass the multiple sites in pelvic fractures, and associate fracture location and morphology with complexity of therapy and prognosis. The classification is based on criteria derived from standard radiographs and well-defined in a glossary of terms. Illustrations of fracture configurations given by the codes facilitate the designation of codes to cases. This article introduces the classification system and reports the findings when applied to 556 cases of pelvic fractures.

Abstract (sommario):
The article deals with the consideration of ways to imitate watermarks in the manufacture of counterfeit banknotes. The watermark is an important public security element for banknotes issued for cash circulation. The basis of any banknote related to paper money is banknote paper. The article briefly describes the stages of the technological process of manufacturing banknote paper and methods for forming watermarks on it. The criteria for the classification of watermarks depending on their location on the banknote (general, local stripe), in relation to the overall tone of the paper (one-tone, two-tone, local, filigree, combined), composition, as well as drawings illustrating these types of watermarks are given. signs. The watermarks developed using modern technologies in recent decades are described, as well as their illustrations. The levels of counterfeiting are determined depending on the subject and its technical capabilities for the manufacture of counterfeit banknotes. The ways of imitation of watermarks are generalized. Firstly, watermarked paper intended for other purposes can be used to make counterfeit banknotes. Secondly, the imitation of watermarks is possible using specially made forms: embossed, used for embossing paper, and printed-screen or letterpress. Widely used to imitate watermarks of copiers. Less common are watermarks, which are imitated using fat-containing substances, or painted with a dye. The article provides examples of the implementation of the relevant methods with their illustration based on studies of counterfeit banknotes. Key words: banknote, banknote paper, watermark, types of watermarks, watermark imitation.

Abstract (sommario):
For reliability analysis of structure with implicit limit state function, an iterative algorithm is presented on the basis of support vector classification machine. In the present method, the support vector classification machine is employed to construct surrogate of the implicit limit state function. By use of the proposed rational iteration and sampling procedure, the constructed support vector classification machine can converge to the actual limit state function at the important region, which contributes to the failure probability significantly. Then the precision of the reliability analysis is improved. The implementation of the presented method is given in detail, and the feasibility and the efficiency are demonstrated by the illustrations.

Abstract (sommario):
An issue of classification may arise when learning classifiers use skewed or imbalanced datasets. In case of an imbalanced dataset, the majority of examples are with one class whereas the other class which is normally considered as the most important class, is however signified by a minor share of instances. By using this type of data, the outcome of machine-learning models would be ineffective. There is a term (High training reliability) used to define preconceptions in between one instance against all other illustrations of the class. In this paper, most important methods used to solve the class imbalance problem i.e. data-level, algorithm-level, hybrid, cost-sensitive learning, deep learning etc. including their advantages and limitations are discussed in detail. Performance and efficiency of classifiers are evaluated using a numerous evaluation metrics such as Accuracy, Precision, Recall, F-Measure.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract The Cyclida comprise six families embracing 55 species in 17 genera. Diagnoses for each family based upon examination of type and referred material as well as photographs of specimens previously known only from drawings has confirmed that four of the families, Cyclidae Packard, 1885; Americlidae Dzik, 2008; Halicynidae Gall & Grauvogel, 1967; and Schraminidae Dzik, 2008, form a unified group morphologically whereas Alsasuacaridae van Bakel, Jagt, Fraaije & Artal, 2011, and Hemitrochiscidae Trauth, 1918 are morphological outliers. Each of the families is documented by illustrations of type or representative genera and species. To assure accurate and uniform comparisons of taxa, a morphological terminology is presented, recognizing synonymous terms that could potentially obscure evaluation of relationships. This provides a framework for future analysis of membership within each family and for phylogenetic analyses.

Abstract (sommario):
"There are many ways to skin a cat".While there are many legal issues which are dealt with in the same way by the civil law and Common Law systems, there remain also significant differences between these two legal systems related to legal structure, classification, fundamental concepts and terminology. This paper does not deal with theoretical examination of differences between the common law and the civil law, but focuses rather on various distinctive features of civil law and common law, with several illustrations of resulting differences in both substantive law and procedural law. These differences are not examined in detail as they should serve only as illustration of those differences. The paper does not enter into polemic as to which legal system is better and what are the advantages of common law or of civil law. The purpose of this short study is simply to highlight some of the main conceptual differences between common law and civil law systems, and to explore the possibilities of reconciling of some of those differences.

Abstract (sommario):
The current interest in the idea of ‘strengths’ can be traced back to Peterson and Seligman’s strengths classification almost eight years ago (2004). Recently, noticing the increasing presence of suppliers who specialise in strengths-based approaches, the author began to wonder whether the idea of strengths-based development might be reaching a ‘tipping point’ in the organisational world. This article presents several illustrations of the changing attitude and approach in using strengths within organisations.

Abstract (sommario):
In this study, constant angle ruled surfaces with a pointwise 1-type Gauss map, which is very useful in the classification of surfaces, are investigated in terms of the Frenet elements of the base curves of the ruled surfaces in Euclidean 3-space. In order to form a basis for our work, firstly, basic concepts related to the Gauss map of an oriented surface are given. Later, a classification is satisfied by determining the necessary conditions to be the first kind, the second kind, and the harmonic of the pointwise 1-type of the Gauss map for these surfaces. Finally, some examples of these surfaces are provided, and their graphical illustrations are displayed.

Abstract (sommario):
Legged locomotion is essential for navigating challenging terrains where conventional robotic systems encounter difficulties. This study investigates the sensitivity of the reconfigurable Klann legged mechanism (KLM) to variations in the input geometric parameters, such as joint position location, link lengths, and angles between linkages, on the continuous coupler curve, which represents the output trace of the leg movement. The continuous coupler curve’s sensitivity is explored using global sensitivity analysis based on Sobol’s sensitivity method. Furthermore, a novel reconfigurability strategy is presented for the Klann mechanism, aiming to reduce the number of required actuators and the complexity in control. In simulation, the coupler curves obtained from the reconfigurable KLM are classified as hammering, digging, jam avoidance, and step climbing using machine learning approaches. Experimental validation is presented, discussing an approach to identifying geometric parameters and the resultant coupler curve. Illustrations of the the complete assembly of the reconfigured KLM with the obtained gaits using limited experiments are also highlighted.

Abstract (sommario):
The last decades have seen a drastic growth of researchers’ interest in nonverbal communication, especially in gestures and gestural behavior of both past and present. However, a systematic description of curtsy, a key gesture of the aristocracy in European and Russian cultures, satisfying the demands of nonverbal communication studies has not been attempted. The lack of such research defined the scope and objectives of this paper: determining the semiotic class of curtsy, distinguishing and analyzing its types, describing its physical realization, semantics, comparing curtsies and bows and determining their place within the Russian gestural system. The research is based on monographs on etiquette and protocol, memoires of the Russian courtiers of the 18-19-th centuries, books on stage movement and historical dances, dictionaries of the Russian language and illustrations from Russian literature. The results of multidimensional analysis demonstrate that we should classify curtsy as a communicative emblem, both an etiquette and ceremonial gesture, successfully assimilated by Russian culture and evolving with time. The research distinguishes types of the curtsy found in Russian culture, contexts and situations when it was used, its semantics, etc. Comparing curtsies and bows by several parameters (physical realization, active body parts, context and situations of use) helped to define key elements in performing curtsies and first distinguish them as a separate class of gestures, which should result in a change of their definitions in dictionaries where curtsy is invariably defined as a bow. The paper also gives an insight into the history of gestures, starting with Peter the Great and up to modern times. The results of the research will be of interest for researchers in the field of semiotics, nonverbal communication, intercultural communication, lexicography, ethnography and social anthropology.

Abstract (sommario):
The AOCMF Classification Group developed a hierarchical three-level craniomaxillofacial classification system with increasing level of complexity and details. The highest level 1 system distinguish four major anatomical units including the mandible (code 91), midface (code 92), skull base (code 93), and cranial vault (code 94). This tutorial presents the level 2 system for the midface unit that concentrates on the location of the fractures within defined regions in the central (upper, intermediate, and lower) and lateral (zygoma, pterygoid) midface, as well as the internal orbit and palate. The level 2 midface fracture location outlines the topographic boundaries of the anatomical regions. The common nasoorbitoethmoidal and zygoma en bloc fracture patterns, as well as the time-honored Le Fort classification are taken into account. This tutorial is organized in a sequence of sections dealing with the description of the classification system with illustrations of the topographical cranial midface regions along with rules for fracture location and coding, a series of case examples with clinical imaging and a general discussion on the design of this classification. Individual fracture mapping in these regions regarding severity, fragmentation, displacement of the fragment or bone defect is addressed in a more detailed level 3 system in the subsequent articles.

Abstract (sommario):
This tutorial outlines the details of the AOCMF image-based classification system for fractures of the mandible at the precision level 2 allowing description of their topographical distribution. A short introduction about the anatomy is made. Mandibular fractures are classified by the anatomic regions involved. For this purpose, the mandible is delineated into an array of nine regions identified by letters: the symphysis/parasymphysis region anteriorly, two body regions on each lateral side, combined angle and ascending ramus regions, and finally the condylar and coronoid processes. A precise definition of the demarcation lines between these regions is given for the unambiguous allocation of fractures. Four transition zones allow an accurate topographic assignment if fractures end up in or run across the borders of anatomic regions. These zones are defined between angle/ramus and body, and between body and symphysis/parasymphysis. A fracture is classified as “confined” as long as it is located within a region, in contrast to a fracture being “nonconfined” when it extents to an adjoining region. Illustrations and case examples of mandible fractures are presented to become familiar with the classification procedure in daily routine.

Abstract (sommario):
This tutorial outlines the details of the AOCMF image-based classification system for fractures of the mandibular arch (i.e. the non-condylar mandible) at the precision level 3. It is the logical expansion of the fracture allocation to topographic mandibular sites outlined in level 2, and is based on three-dimensional (3D) imaging techniques/computed tomography (CT)/cone beam CT). Level 3 allows an anatomical description of the individual conditions of the mandibular arch such as the preinjury dental state and the degree of alveolar atrophy. Trauma sequelae are then addressed: (1) tooth injuries and periodontal trauma, (2) fracture involvement of the alveolar process, (3) the degree of fracture fragmentation in three categories (none, minor, and major), and (4) the presence of bone loss. The grading of fragmentation needs a 3D evaluation of the fracture area, allowing visualization of the outer and inner mandibular cortices. To document these fracture features beyond topography the alphanumeric codes are supplied with distinctive appendices. This level 3 tutorial is accompanied by a brief survey of the peculiarities of the edentulous atrophic mandible. Illustrations and a few case examples serve as instruction and reference to improve the understanding and application of the presented features.

Abstract (sommario):
The term data augmentation refers to an approach that can be used to prevent overfitting in the training dataset, which is where the issue first manifests itself. This is based on the assumption that extra datasets can be improved by include new information that is of use. It is feasible to create an artificially larger training dataset by utilizing methods such as data warping and oversampling. This will allow for the creation of more accurate models. This idea is demonstrated through the application of a variety of different methods, some of which include neural style transfer, adversarial training, and erasure by random erasure, amongst others. By utilizing oversampling augmentations, it is feasible to create synthetic instances that can be incorporated into the training data. This is made possible by the generation of synthetic instances. There are numerous illustrations of this, including image merging, feature space enhancements, and generative adversarial networks, to name a few (GANs). In this paper, we aim to provide evidence that a Generative Adversarial Network can be used to convert regular images into Hyper Spectral Images (HSI). The purpose of the model is to generate data by including a certain amount of unpredictable noise.

Abstract (sommario):
A conspectus of the Lycopodiaceae in Brazil is presented, following a generic classification based on anatomy, chromosome numbers, spores and gametophytes, as well as recent molecular studies. The species of Lycopodiaceae occurring in Brazil, traditionally treated conservatively, were grouped in three genera: Lycopodium, Lycopodiella, and Huperzia. Within each genus, the diversity (treated under various subgenera, sections, and subsections) has been discussed. In our new approach, these three genera are treated as subfamilies Lycopodiodeae (four genera in Brazil), Lycopodielloideae (three genera in Brazil), and Huperzioideae (two genera in Brazil). Branching patterns and morphological diversity of vegetative leaves and sporophylls, as well as morphology of sporangia and spores in the different groups, are discussed in a brief review. We provide keys to identification of subfamilies and genera represented in Brazil. The species of Lycopodioideae, genera Lycopodium (s.str.), Austrolycopodium, Diphasium, and Diphasiastrum (one species in the first three genera, two in Diphasiastrum - one of them new) are treated in detail, with descriptions, illustrations (or references to illustrations), and comments on habitat and distribution.

Abstract (sommario):
Under the formalism of annealed averaging of the partition function, two types of random multifractal measures with their probability of multipliers satisfying power law distribution and triangular distribution are investigated mathematically. In these two illustrations, branching emerges in the curve of generalized dimensions, and more abnormally, negative values of generalized dimensions arise. Therefore, we classify the random multifractal measures into three classes based on the properties of generalized dimensions. Other equivalent classifications are also presented by investigating the location of the zero-point of τ(q) or the relative position either between the f(α) curve and the diagonal f(α) = α or between the f(q) curve and the α(q) curve. We consequently propose phase diagrams to characterize the classification procedure and distinguish the scaling properties between different classes. The branching phenomenon emerging is due to the extreme value condition and the convergency of the generalized dimensions at point q = 1. We conjecture that the branching condition exists and that the classification is universal for any random multifractals. Moreover, the asymptotic behaviors of the scaling properties are studied. We apply the cascade processes studied in this paper to characterizing two stochastic processes, i.e. the energy dissipation field in fully developed turbulence and the droplet breakup in atomization. The agreement between the proposed model and experiments are remarkable.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper presents a skin cancer classification model that combines a pre-trained Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) with a nature-inspired feature optimization algorithm. A custom dataset comprising both malignant and benign skin cancer microscopic illustrations is derived from the ISIC dataset of dermoscopic images. Several preprocessing steps are performed on the input pictures, such as histogram equalization, gamma correction, and white balance adjustment, to improve visibility, quality, and make color corrections. Deep feature extraction and pattern recognition are conducted on both enhanced and original dataset images using the pre-trained CNN model EfficientNetB0. As a result of fusing these features, the model can capture rich details from both dataset versions at the same time. Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), a nature-inspired feature selection algorithm is applied to perform model optimization by keeping the most relevant features and discarding the unnecessary ones. The optimized feature vector is then used with various SVM classifier kernels for the skin cancer classification task. The maximum achieved accuracy of the proposed model exceeded 98% through CB-SVM while maintaining an excellent prediction speed and reduced training time.

Abstract (sommario):
The generic types of four genera with unclear placement in Dothideomycetes were re-examined. These genera were hitherto poorly illustrated or described. The type specimens of Cocconia (C. palmae), Dianesea (D. palmae), Endococcus (E. rugulosus) and Lineostroma (L. banksiae), were re-examined in order to determine their familial and higher level placements, according to their morphology and based on modern taxonomic concepts. A resume of the history along with descriptions and illustrations of these genera are provided. Endococcus and Lineostroma are placed in families Lichenotheliaceae and Didymosphaeriaceae, respectively, based on morphology. The placement of Cocconia within Parmulariaceae is confirmed. Dianesea is retained in Dothideomycetes genera incertae sedis as it is not typical of any existing family of Dothideomycetes. Fresh collections of these genera are needed for further study, so that they can be epitypified and molecular data is needed to validate their phylogeny and natural classification.

Abstract Objective The purpose of this study was to introduce a modified-Unger fracture classification in impala and report the findings of 58 long bone fractures classified according to this system. Methods This was a retrospective radiographical study evaluating 122 radiographs of 58 long bone fractures in 55 impala. The Unger fracture classification was modified and fracture illustrations for the metacarpal and metatarsal bones added. Each fracture was classified and assigned a four symbol α-numeric code using our classification. The patient signalment, skeletal maturity, fracture-associated soft tissue changes, presence of fissure lines, periosteal reaction and cause of the fracture were recorded. Results The overall fracture distribution based on location, found tibial (n = 17) fractures to be the most common fractured long bone. When combined, the majority of fractures involved the metacarpal and metatarsal bones (n = 23). Forty five of 58 fractures occurred in the diaphyseal bone segment. In all long bones, the distribution based on complexity was simple (n = 27), wedge (n = 16) and multi-fragmentary (n = 15) fractures. Thirty one of 58 fractures were open and fissure lines were detected in 20 of 58 fractures. Clinical Significance Our modified-Unger fracture classification was applicable in classifying 58 impala long bone fractures. This classification should provide the basis for further advances in veterinary and comparative ungulates, and particularly the antelopes, orthopaedics and traumatology.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper proposes a new classification of correlated data types based upon the relative number of direct connections among observations, producing a family of correlated observations embracing seven categories, one whose empirical counterpart currently is unknown, and ranging from independent (i.e., no links) to approaching near-complete linkage (i.e., n(n − 1)/2 links). Analysis of specimen datasets from publicly available data sources furnishes empirical illustrations for these various categories. Their descriptions also include their historical context and calculation of their effective sample sizes (i.e., an equivalent number of independent observations). Concluding comments contain some state-of-the-art future research topics.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper presents a modification of the types of supportive information that Breeze (1992) identified for hortatory discourses as a basis for bringing out the mismatches that are most likely to occur when translating from a verb-object (VO) language to an object-verb (OV) language. Earlier sections review the factors that underlie Longacre's (1996) classification of texts into four broad categories and outline what characterizes mainline information for each genre. They are followed by illustrations of deductive and inductive reasoning from Koiné Greek and Ancient Hebrew, since deductive reasoning tends to correlate with instructional exhortations and inductive reasoning with attempts to persuade.

Abstract (sommario):
Cassipourea (Rhizophoraceae) is represented in Gabon by 11 species, of which C. nana Breteler and C. ndambiana Breteler are described as new and C. carringtoniana Mendes, C. gummiflua Tul. and C. ruwensorensis (Engl.) Alston are reported from this country for the first time. The subgeneric classification is discussed. An adapted key to the subgenera and a key to the Gabonese species is presented. A synopsis of the subgenera and of the Gabonese species is also given. The new species and Cassipourea carringtoniana are fully illustrated. A few illustrations of some other species to elucidate characters of the subgenera are provided.

Abstract (sommario):
The ladybird genus Vedalia was established by Mulsant in 1850 to accommodate a single species Vedalia sieboldii Mulsant. Since its description the genus attracted little attention, and its systematic position in modern classification of the subfamily Coccinellinae remained unclear. Here we provide revisionary study based on the type and non-type material from various collections. Male and female genitalia are illustrated for the first time, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) illustrations of the key characters are also provided. Position of the genus within the tribe Chnoodini Mulsant is confirmed. Distribution and biology of Vedalia are also discussed.
