The ostraca used to belong to the collection of the Russian Egyptologist Vladimir S. Golenischeff. They date from the 19th– 20th Dynasty and probably originate from Deir el-Medina.

<b><i>Introduction:</i></b> Elaborated intrusion theory suggests that imagery is central to craving; however, the possibility that cue-elicited multisensory imagery produces such urges has not been studied enough in the literature. Thus, we investigated the role of cue-elicited multisensory imagery on alcohol craving in individuals who are hazardous and social drinkers compared to mental and neutral imagery conditions. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> In an online experiment, hazardous and social drinkers (<i>N</i> = 348) between 18 and 45 years old were randomised to multisensory, mental, and neutral imagery exposure. The level of craving intensity was measured before and after imagery exposure. Also, participants rated vividness and sensory features scales after the exposure. <b><i>Results:</i></b> The level of craving was significantly higher in multisensory imagery condition compared to neutral condition (<i>b</i> = 1.94, <i>p</i> &lt; 0.001, SE = 0.30, <i>t</i>(344) = 6.52, standardised mean difference [SMD] = 0.89) and in mental imagery condition compared to neutral condition (<i>b</i> = 1.82, SE = 0.30, <i>t</i>(344) = 6.52, <i>p</i> &lt; 0.001, SMD = 0.83). The difference between the level of craving intensity between the multisensory and mental was not significant (<i>b</i> = 0.12, SE = 0.22, <i>t</i>(344) = 0.53, <i>p</i> = 0.594, SMD = 0.06). Moreover, craving intensity in response to multisensory versus neutral imagery was significantly stronger among hazardous drinkers (<i>b</i> = −2.90, SE = 0.83, <i>t</i>(341) = −3.50, <i>p</i> &lt; 0.001). The level of vividness was not significantly different between any conditions. The difference between levels of sensory features was higher in multisensory imagery condition compared to neutral (<i>b</i> = 0.95, SE = 0.30, <i>t</i>(345) = 3.17, <i>p</i> = 0.002, SMD = 0.49) and mental imagery condition (<i>b</i> = 0.67, SE = 0.23, <i>t</i>(345) = 2.36, <i>p</i> = 0.004, SMD = 0.35). <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> Results suggest that cue-elicited multisensory imagery may be a useful tool for eliciting alcohol craving responses and provide an additional means for better understanding the multi-layered mechanism of craving.

Abstract The isoflavone ME-344 is a potent anti-cancer agent with preclinical efficacy in solid tumors in vitro and in vivo. In a recently completed phase I clinical trial in patients with refractory solid tumors, ME-344 was well tolerated and clinical responses in refractory patients were observed. ME-344 has been shown to reduce mitochondrial ATP generation in a tumor selective manner, though other potential activities have not been fully defined. In addition, the preclinical efficacy of ME-344 in leukemia has not been established. Therefore, we investigated the anti-leukemic properties and the mechanism of action of ME-344. We treated a panel of 7 leukemia cell lines with increasing concentrations of ME-344, and measured cell growth and viability. ME-344 was cytotoxic to the 7 leukemia cell lines with an IC50 in the range of 70-260 nM. In addition, ME-344 induced preferential death in primary AML patient samples over normal hematopoietic cells. In an OCI-AML2 xenograft model, ME-344 reduced tumor growth by up to 95% of control without evidence of toxicity. Mechanistically, as reported in studies in solid tumors, ME-344 increased mitochondrial ROS generation in leukemic cells. However, antioxidant treatment did not rescue cell death, suggesting that ME-344 has additional targets beyond the mitochondria. To identify additional targets of ME-344, we conducted haplo-insufficiency profiling in S.cerevisiae to identify genes whose heterozygous deletion confers increased sensitivity to ME-344. The top hits from the screen were genes involved in cytoskeletal organization. Therefore, we tested the effects of ME-344 on actin and tubulin polymerization in cell free assays. While ME-344 did not inhibit actin polymerization, it inhibited tubulin polymerization by interacting near the colchicine-binding site and at a site distinct from vinca alkaloids. Furthermore, cells resistant to tubulin inhibitors due to tubulin point mutations were also resistant to ME-344. Finally, we showed that ME-344 synergizes with vinblastine in leukemia cells. Thus, our study demonstrates that ME-344 displays preclinical efficacy in leukemia through a mechanism at least partly related to targeting tubulin polymerization. Abstract Lack of clinically validated markers associated with the development of neutralizing antibodies (inhibitors) to the replacement protein-drug, Factor VIII (FVIII) is a major challenge in managing Hemophilia A (HA). By utilizing Machine Learning (ML) and Explainable AI (XAI) we identified and ranked relevant variables (biomarkers) that could be predictive for developing inhibitors to FVIII drugs in hemophilia A patients. The dataset used for the study was derived from the My Life Our Future (MLOF) repository and included variables such as age, race, ethnicity, mutations in the F8 gene and the Human Leucocyte Antigen Class II (HLA-II) type. We computed the number of foreign FVIII derived peptides, based on the alignment of the endogenous FVIII and infused drug sequences, and the foreign-peptide HLA-II molecule binding affinity (using the NetMHCIIpan algorithm). The complete dataset with the added variables was trained and validated using multiple ML classification models to identify the top performing model, which was chosen for further processing with XAI via SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanations) to identify the variables critical for the prediction of FVIII inhibitor development in a hemophilia A patients. The top five variables for predicting inhibitor development based on SHAP values are: (i) the baseline activity of the FVIII protein, (ii) mean affinity of all foreign peptides for HLA DRB 3, 4, & 5 alleles, (iii) mean affinity of all foreign peptides for HLA DRB1 alleles, (iv) the maximum affinity among all foreign peptides for HLA DRB1 alleles, and (v) F8 mutation type. I enjoyed reading Kanavillil Rajagopalan's article "On the Theoretical Trappings of the Thesis of Anti-Theory; or, Why the Idea of Theory May Not, After All, Be All That Bad: A Response to Gary Thomas" in the Fall 1998 issue of the Harvard Educational Review, and I am grateful to him for his thoughtful and detailed response to my article, "What's the Use of Theory?" (HER, Spring 1997). I am glad that we can agree on the pretensions of some kinds of theory and on its inhibiting effects on original thinking. I am pleased that he believes that I examine certain theories "with great skill and perspicacity" (p. 337), even if I am also guilty of "smug skepticism" (p. 346), "crypto-scientism" (p. 344), making an "impassioned harangue" (p. 336), and making a "fatal mistake" (p. 347) in my reasoning. Rajagopalan's critique comes in two waves: in the first he tries to establish that theory's ambit is wide — indeed it is so wide that it encompasses anything to do with structured thought. A simple proposition follows: theory is any structured thought, ergo Thomas's structured thought is theory. Once this ground is established (that I'm a theorist), the way is easy for the second surge. Here, Rajagopalan claims that since I am a theorist I am guilty of grave contradictions and inconsistencies in my argument against theory.

Aquesta invenció historiogràfica constitueix una defensa interessada i per part d'un eclesiàstic del paper de l'Església catalana i dels catòlics catalans durant la guerra civil espanyola (1936-1939), que majoritàriament van alinear-se amb el general Franco. La tesi estructura els integrants del grup d'estudi en quatre categories, bàsicament corresponents a Lliga Catalana (Carles Cardó, Francesc Vidal Barraquer), Unió Democràtica de Catalunya (Manuel Carraso Formiguera, Joan B. Roca Caball, Ramon Sugranyes de Franch, Josep M. Trias Peitx), Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (Lluís Companys) i Acció Catalana Republicana (Claudi Ametlla, Josep M. Boronat, Amadeu Hurtado). També fa un ampli debat historiogràfic, estudia les relacions Catalunya-Espanya en temps de pau i en temps de guerra i fa un estudi de l'actuació de Boronat a la justícia especial de guerra.<br>La tesis estudia la tercera Cataluña, invención historiográfica a cargo de Hilari Raguer a partir del concepto de tercera España de Paul Preston. It also does a broad range of historiographic debate, it studies the relationships between Catalonia and Spain in peace times and in war times and it does a studi of Boronat's rol in the special war courts.

Obesity is a worldwide problem affecting both children and adults. Genetic, physiological, environmental, psychological, social and economic factors interact in varying degrees, influencing body weight and fat distribution and the progress of obesity. Moreover, some anthropogenic chemicals have proven to be endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) with the potential to interfere with different actions of hormones in the body. EDCs may thereby disrupt homeostasis, modifying developmental, behavioral and immune functions in humans and animals, and also promoting adiposity. Because hormones generally act at low concentrations, small changes in the endocrine system may lead to extensive effects. Based on data from experimental and epidemiological studies this thesis elucidates the relationship between a large number of environmental contaminants and obesity. The experimental studies demonstrated that fructose supplementation in the drinking water resulted in unfavorable metabolic alterations such as a higher liver somatic index (LSI), an increase in plasma triglycerides and increased plasma levels of apo A-I. Fructose in combination with exposure to bisphenol A (BPA) increased liver fat content and plasma levels of apo A-I in juvenile female Fischer 344 rats. The experimental studies also showed that the retro-peritoneal fat, which in rats is a distinct fat depot easy to distinguish and dissect, correlated well with the measurements of total fat mass analyzed with MRI, and could therefore be used as a substitute for total fat mass in rats. The epidemiological studies showed that circulating levels of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) were related to fat mass measured by DXA. OCDD, HCB, TNC, DDE and the less chlorinated PCBs were positively related to fat mass, while the more highly chlorinated PCBs showed a negative association. Further, circulating levels of BPA were positively associated with levels of the hormones adiponectin and leptin, but negatively related with ghrelin, hormones which are involved in the regulation of hunger and satiety. However, serum BPA levels were not related to measures of fat mass in the elderly individuals in the PIVUS cohort. This thesis concludes that environmental contaminants such as BPA and POPs most likely are contributors, along with genetic, social and behavioral factors, to the development of obesity.

Partint del dret constitucional a la propietat i herència recollit en l'art. 33 de la Constitució Espanyola, la successió en el nostre ordenament jurídic es configura com una de les formes d'adquirir la propietat (art. 609 del C. c.). Per poder adquirir-la, cal que existeixi una crida real, per la qual cosa l'estudi de les fases de la vocació i la delació hereditàries és fonamental. L'anàlisi d'ambdues, que tenen origen romà, s'ha realitzat des d'un plànol teòric, contraposant crida general a oferiment concret. No obstant això, no cal afirmar la seva distinció clara en la seva aplicació pràctica, ja que en la majoria dels casos les figures es confonen. A més, vocació i delació no han estat tractades en les normes ni tan sols com a figures diferents; tampoc han estat regulades fixant les seves característiques, requisits i efectes. Aquesta situació suposa una llacuna legal que incideix directament en el problema analitzat en aquest treball, això és, la ineficàcia de la vocació per desconeixement del ius delationis.
L'estudi parteix de la identitat de les figures en la seva aplicació pràctica. L'oferiment o vocació és indispensable per a l'adquisició del patrimoni hereditari, no obstant això no existeix una vocació real, ja que en el nostre sistema successori, excepte excepcions concretes, no es produeix cap crida per part de cap de les persones, ni de les institucions que intervenen en el complex procés successori. La falta d'aquesta crida sol ser la causa principal de la falta de coneixement del ius delationis, ja estiguem en seu de successió testada o intestada, impedint donar compliment a la voluntat del causant manifestada en testament o, si escau, a l'ordre de crides previst per la llei.
Malgrat l'existència de normes excepcionals i la funció de les institucions que intervenen en el procediment, avui alterades per la nova Llei de Jurisdicció Voluntària, no es garanteix completament l'efectivitat del procés successori, amb la consegüent inseguretat jurídica. Tot això, sense perjudici del marc comunitari, que mitjançant la promulgació del Reglament de Successions Europeu, ha suposat un canvi d'enfocament en el dret successori espanyol. En aquesta línia es proposen mitjans per resoldre aquesta problemàtica sense alterar el sistema successori espanyol.<br>Partiendo del derecho constitucional a la propiedad y herencia recogido en el art. 33 de la Constitución Española, la sucesión en nuestro ordenamiento jurídico se configura como una de las formas de adquirir la propiedad (art. 609 del C.c.). Para poder adquirirla, es preciso que exista un llamamiento real, por lo que el estudio de las fases de la vocación y la delación hereditarias es fundamental. El análisis de ambas, que tienen origen romano, se ha realizado desde un plano teórico, contraponiendo llamamiento general a ofrecimiento concreto. Sin embargo, no cabe afirmar su distinción clara en su aplicación práctica, ya que en la mayoría de los casos las figuras se confunden. Además, vocación y delación no han sido tratadas en las normas ni tan siquiera como figuras distintas; tampoco han sido reguladas fijando sus características, requisitos y efectos. Esta situación supone una laguna legal que incide directamente en el problema analizado en este trabajo, esto es, la ineficacia de la vocación por desconocimiento del ius delationis.
El estudio parte de la identidad de las figuras en su aplicación práctica. El ofrecimiento o vocación es indispensable para la adquisición del patrimonio hereditario, sin embargo no existe una vocación real, ya que en nuestro sistema sucesorio, salvo excepciones concretas, no se produce ningún llamamiento por parte de ninguna de las personas, ni de las instituciones que intervienen en el complejo proceso sucesorio. La falta de dicho llamamiento suele ser la causa principal de la falta de conocimiento del ius delationis, ya estemos en sede de sucesión testada o intestada, impidiendo dar cumplimiento a la voluntad del causante manifestada en testamento o, en su caso, al orden de llamamientos previsto por la ley.
Pese a la existencia de normas excepcionales y la función de las instituciones que intervienen en el procedimiento, hoy alteradas por la nueva Ley de Jurisdicción Voluntaria, no se garantiza completamente la efectividad del proceso sucesorio, con la consiguiente inseguridad jurídica. Todo ello, sin perjuicio del marco comunitario, que mediante la promulgación del Reglamento de Sucesiones Europeo, ha supuesto un cambio de enfoque en el derecho sucesorio español. En esta línea se proponen medios para resolver esta problemática sin alterar el sistema sucesorio español.<br>Starting from the constitutional right of property and inheritance set forth in art. 33 of the Spanish Constitution, succession in our legal system is configured as one of the ways of acquiring property (Article 609 of the C.c.). In order to acquire it, there must be a real appeal, so that the study of the stages of hereditary vocation and delation is very important. The analysis of both, which have Roman origins, has been carried out from a theoretical point of view, opposing a general appeal to a concrete offer. However, its distinction in its practical application can’t be affirmed so easily, since in most cases the figures are confused. Moreover, vocation and delation have not been treated in the laws nor even as distinct figures; nor have they been regulated by fixing their characteristics, requirements and effects. This situation implies a legal gap that directly affects the problem analyzed in this work, that is, the ineffectiveness of the vocation for ignorance of ius delationis.
The study starts from the identity of the figures in their practical application. The offer or vocation is indispensable for the acquisition of hereditary heritage, but there is no real vocation in our succession system, as there is no appeal from any of the people, nor from the institutions that Intervene in the complex process of succession. The lack of such an appeal is often the main cause of the lack of knowledge of the ius delationis, whether we are in a last will or not, preventing compliance with the will of the deceased expressed in a testament or, if applicable, the order of appeals provided by law.
Despite the existence of some exceptional regulation and institutions involved in the process, changed by the new Law of Voluntary Jurisdiction, they to not not guarantee the effectiveness of the succession process, provoking legal insecurity and non-fulfillment of the foundation of any succession, that is, the transit of hereditary heritage. And all the above without taking into account the EU framework, which, has led to a change of perspective in the analysis of Spanish succession Law, with the promulgation of the European Succession Reglament.

<p>Examensarbetet har innefattat att utforma ett inredningsförslag till restaurangen Down Town i Eskilstuna. Förslaget har anpassats till den primära målgruppen studenter i åldersgruppen 18 – 35, på Mälardalens högskola i Eskilstuna. Vår uppdragsgivare har en vision om att restaurangen i framtiden ska bli en naturlig mötesplats, där studenter till förmånliga priser kan äta lunch och umgås. Utifrån en enkätundersökning, intervju med uppdragsgivaren, resultatet av rums analysen, inspirationsresan och litteraturstudier har vi arbetat fram ett helhetskoncept anpassat till målgruppen.</p>

Die Arbeit setzt sich mit dem neuen europäischen Anknüpfungskonzept für ausländisches Eingriffsrecht in der Rom I-VO auseinander. Im Fokus der Untersuchung steht die politisch motivierte und restriktiv ausgefallene Regelung des Art. 9 Abs. 3 Rom I-VO. Zudem widmet sich ein Teil der Untersuchung allgemein der hinter dem Eingriffsrecht – insbesondere dem Konzept des ausländischen Eingriffsrechts im IPR – stehenden Dogmatik, die aus einer dogmatisch-historischen Perspektive beleuchtet wird.
Schwerpunktmäßig gilt es der Frage nachzugehen, welche Überlegungen hinter der neuen Kollisionsnorm stehen und ob die Sonderanknüpfung des Art. 9 Abs. 3 Rom I-VO einen dogmatisch geeigneten, mit der Zielsetzung der Rom I-VO vereinbaren rechtlichen Rahmen für die einheitliche kollisionsrechtliche Berufung der berücksichtigungswürdigen ausländischen Eingriffsnormen in den Mitgliedstaaten schafft.<br>The thesis examines the European concept of the newly defined connecting factor for foreign overriding mandatory rules in the Rome I Regulation. The central attention of the study is the analysis of the politically motivated and restrictive regulation of Art. 9 (3) of the Rome I Regulation. In addition, the first part of the study is dedicated to the examination of the general approach behind the application of foreign overriding mandatory rules in private international law from a dogmatic-historical perspective.
The main focus of the thesis, however, is on the research of the considerations behind the new conflict of laws rule. The author specifically questions whether the new connecting factor defined in the Art. 9 (3) Rome I Regulation provides a worthy and sufficient legal framework for the application of foreign overriding mandatory rules.

La regulació de les actuacions que duen a terme les Forces i Cossos de Seguretat de l’Estat en el marc de les investigacions penals és una de les reformes més importants que resten pendent en l’àmbit del dret processal. El TEDH ha advertit a l’Estat Espanyol sobre la insuficient regulació, essent els Tribunals espanyols qui, amb dispar fortuna, han anat corregint les deficiències.
La dispersa regulació es mostra insuficient per abastar de forma coherent tots els aspectes associats a les investigacions, pivotant el sistema en l’art. 286 LECrim., que contempla la seva realització per part del Jutge. Mentrestant, l’activitat sembla regida per les màximes de l’experiència i el costum policials, sense que existeixin unes directrius estables d’actuació, i la seva incorporació i eficàcia en el si del procediment obeeix, no poques vegades, a la improvisació i imaginació dels operadors jurídics davant els quals és exposada.
La determinació del valor probatori de les diligències policials podria constituir, a priori, una contradicció, però té una indubtable utilitat descriptiva, essent una qüestió no exempta de dificultat que exigeix indagar en la doctrina i en la jurisprudència per arribar a una aproximació de quina és la situació. El rendiment i eficàcia de la prova, en quina adquisició i assegurament ha intervingut la policia, es veurà compromès. Tot plegat, no deixa de ser més que el vell debat que gravita al voltant de l’eficàcia probatòria de la investigació que la LECrim. no ha sabut tallar, i que la pràctica forense ha aplicat amb disparitat.
Aquest treball pretén analitzar quines són les diligències policials que s’executen sense intervenció judicial, qualificades de preprocesals, per afirmar que aquestes actuacions, amb lleugeres millores del marc normatiu existent i el concurs de Fiscal, produirien millors resultats.<br>La regulación de las actuaciones que llevan a cabo las Fuerzas y Cuerpos de Seguridad del Estado en el marco de las investigaciones es una de las reformas más importantes pendientes en el derecho procesal. El TEDH ha advertido en más de una ocasión al Estado Español sobre la insuficiente regulación. En ese ínterin son los Tribunales españoles, quienes, con dispar fortuna, han corregido las deficiencias.
La dispersa regulación es insuficiente para abarcar de forma coherente todos los aspectos asociados a las investigaciones penales, pivotando el sistema en el art. 286 LECrim., que contempla su realización por parte del Juez de Instrucción. Mientras tanto, la actividad parece regida por las máximas de la experiencia y costumbre policiales, sin que existan unas directrices estables de actuación, resultando que su incorporación y eficacia en el seno del procedimiento obedece, en no pocas ocasiones, a la improvisación e imaginación de los operadores ante los que se expone.
La determinación del valor probatorio de las actuaciones y diligencias policiales podría constituir, a priori, una contradicción, pero tiene una indudable utilidad descriptiva, siendo una cuestión no exenta de dificultad que exige indagar en la doctrina y la jurisprudencia. El rendimiento y eficacia de la prueba en cuya adquisición y aseguramiento intervino la policía se va a ver comprometido. Todo ello, no es más que el viejo debate de la eficacia probatoria de la investigación que la LECRim. no ha sabido zanjar, y que la práctica forense ha aplicado con disparidad.
Este trabajo pretende analizar cuáles son las diligencias policiales que se ejecutan sin intervención judicial, para afirmar que estas actuaciones, preprocesales, con unas ligeras modificaciones del marco normativo existente y el concurso del Fiscal, producirían resultados más efectivos.<br>The procedures accomplished by the Forces and State Security Corps within the framework of penal investigations is one of the most important reforms still pending in the procedural law. The ECHR has warned the Spanish State, on more than one occasion, about the inadequate legal regulation. In this interim, the Spanish Courts of Law, with disparate fortune, have been correcting the inadequacies.
The dispersed regulation proves inadequate, revolving around the system in the art. 268 LECrim, considering its execution by the investigation judge. Meanwhile the activity seems to be guided by the police criterion and experience without constant rules of procedure, and its inclusion and efficiency in the heart of the procedure is due, frequently, to improvisation and to the imagination of the jurists to whom it is exposed.
Although the evidentiary value determination of the police interventions and proceedings might constitute, a priori, a contradiction, it has an indubitable descriptive usefulness. It is a difficult issue that requires enquiring into the doctrine and the jurisprudence in order to arrive to an approach of the situation. The behavior and the test performance in whose acquisition and assurance the police has intervened will be compromised. This whole issue is indeed the old debate that revolves around the evidential effectiveness of the investigation that could not be resolved by the LECRim and that the forensic practice has used with disparity.
This paper attempts to capture which police proceedings are executed without judicial intervention. The aim is to question if in such a situation, that is qualified as pre-procedural, with a little more than the existing regulatory framework and the fiscal authority competition, more successful results would be produced.

El procediment prejudicial, establert actualment als articles 19.3.b) del TUE i 276 del TFUE per garantir la interpretació i aplicació uniforme del Dret europeu, ha constituït un element essencial en el procés d’integració. Es tracta d’un mecanisme de cooperació que apodera els jutjats i tribunals estatals per l’aplicació de les normes europees i deixa en mans del Tribunal de Justícia de la Unió Europea la interpretació i enjudiciament de les mateixes.
No obstant, aquesta col·laboració que en el text dels Tractats es preveia horitzontal i bilateral, amb una clara delimitació de funcions, s’ha situat en un pla vertical i jeràrquic. El Tribunal de Justícia ha aprofitat la seva condició d’intèrpret del Dret europeu per ampliar paulatinament les seves competències, erigint-se com a última instància judicial de la Unió. Així, no sols ha establert les condicions en què havia de portar-se a terme el procediment prejudicial, sinó que fins i tot ha seleccionat quins ens podien o havien de fer ús d’aquest incident de cooperació. Això per mitjà de la creació del concepte d’òrgan jurisdiccional europeu, diferent al dels Estats membres de la Unió, que arriba a incloure instàncies administratives i organismes al servei de l’administració, així com altres institucions internes no integrades al poder judicial.
En aquesta tesi es pretén, en primer lloc, definir el marc jurídic que ha donat lloc a l’ús i a la formulació de la noció d’òrgan jurisdiccional per part del Tribunal de Justícia i sense el qual no es podria entendre el mateix: la qüestió prejudicial. En segon lloc, s’examina de quina manera el Tribunal de Justícia ha procedit a la creació de la noció d’òrgan jurisdiccional; se’n ressalta el seu caràcter autònom i unitari i s’estudien tots i cada un dels criteris orgànics i funcionals que el Tribunal de Justícia ha pres en consideració per la seva identificació. En tercer lloc, es realitza un anàlisi sobre l’aplicació dels criteris jurisprudencials del Tribunal de Justícia al cas concret, tant en la vessant restrictiva del concepte com en l’expansiva. Se trata de un mecanismo de cooperación que apodera a los juzgados y tribunales estatales para la aplicación de las normas europeas y deja en manos del Tribunal de Justicia de la Unión Europea la interpretación y enjuiciamiento de las mismas.
Sin embargo, esta colaboración que en el texto de los Tratados se preveía horizontal y bilateral, con una clara delimitación de funciones, se ha situado en un plano vertical y jerárquico. El Tribunal de Justicia ha aprovechado su condición de intérprete del Derecho europeo para ampliar paulatinamente sus competencias, erigiéndose como última instancia judicial de la Unión. Así, no sólo ha establecido las condiciones en que debía llevarse a cabo el procedimiento prejudicial, sino incluso ha seleccionado qué entes podían o debían hacer uso de este incidente de cooperación. Ello mediante la creación del concepto de órgano jurisdiccional europeo, distinto al de los Estados miembros de la Unión, que llega a comprender instancias administrativas y organismos al servicio de la administración, así como otras instituciones internas no integradas en el poder judicial.
En esta tesis se pretende, en primer lugar, definir el marco jurídico que ha dado lugar al uso y a la formulación de la noción órgano jurisdiccional por parte del Tribunal de Justicia y sin el cual no podría entenderse el mismo: la cuestión prejudicial. En segundo lugar, se examina de qué forma el Tribunal de Justicia ha procedido a la creación de la noción de órgano jurisdiccional; se resalta su carácter autónomo y unitario y se estudian todos y cada uno de los criterios orgánicos y funcionales que el Tribunal de Justicia ha tomado en consideración para su identificación. En tercer lugar, se realiza un análisis sobre la aplicación de los criterios jurisprudenciales del Tribunal de Justicia al caso concreto, tanto en la vertiente restrictiva del concepto como en la expansiva. Y, en cuarto lugar, se expone la concreta relación entre la noción de órgano jurisdiccional y la competencia del Tribunal de Justicia, poniendo de manifiesto la inseguridad jurídica que provoca la ausencia de un concepto claro de órgano jurisdiccional; también se intentan plasmar algunas propuestas de solución.<br>The preliminary ruling procedure, as enacted in Articles 19.3.b) of the TEU and 267 of the TFEU to assure the interpretation and uniform application of European law, has been an essential element of the integration process. It is a cooperation mechanism which enables the state courts and tribunals to apply European regulations this leaving it to the European Union Court of Justice to interpret and adjudicate them.
However, the collaboration that the Treaty text envisaged as horizontal and bilateral, with a clear delimitation of functions, has hitherto been vertical and hierarchical. The Court of Justice has used its status as the interpreter of European law to gradually expand its powers, establishing itself as the highest judicial authority in the Union. Consequently, not only has it established the conditions under which preliminary proceedings have been carried out but it has even chosen which bodies can or should make use of this cooperation. This was done by the creation of a definition of court or tribunal, distinct from those of the member states, which allows the inclusion of administrative bodies and their supporting services, together with other domestic non-judicial institutions.
In this thesis I shall endeavor firstly, to define the legal framework that has led to the use and development of the definition of court or tribunal as the Court of Justice without which it cannot be understood: the preliminary reference. Secondly, I shall examine the ways that the Court of Justice has evolved from the creation of the notion of court or tribunal by highlighting its autonomous and unitary character and studying each and every one of the organic and functional criteria that it has adopted as its identity. Thirdly, I shall analyze the application of the legal criteria of the Court of Justice in a specific case in both the restrictive aspect of the conceptualization and the expansive. Fourthly and finally, I shall demonstrate the particular relationship between the definition of court or tribunal and the power of the Court of Justice, unveiling the legal uncertainty caused by the absence of a clear concept of court or tribunal and furthermore I shall endeavor to offer some solutions.

The use of copyrighted works is an essential tool for carrying out teaching activities. It is relevant for both teachers, who very often use them to support their instructional tasks, and students, who also make use of them to illustrate their learning activities. The mandatory authorisation of the copyrightholder may represent, in some cases, an exorbitant and unjustified demand (e. g. when the use is really inoffensive or responds to the exercise of fundamental rights and freedoms) or even an unenforceable requirement (either because there is no effective and sufficiently developed market for educational licences -notably on line-, or because is extremely difficult to control the actual utilisation of the work).
The recognition of the private and public interests in the use of copyrighted works for educational purposes justifies the certain limitations to the copyrightholders' exclusive rights.
This publication analyses the scope of the limitation of "illustration for teachin" incorporated in the Spanish Copyright Law by the Law 23/2006 and other complementary exceptions that may be invoked in educational activities. It reviews the legal framework established in the international treaties and in the Information Society Directive and also considers the laws other EU countries and beyond (notably US and Australia) some of them specifically targeting online education.
The PhD thesis supports a flexible interpretation of the requirements foreseen in the Spanish Copyright law and de lege ferenda presents a series of policy options that could help to better conciliate public and private interests.

Leiden I 344 recto, which contains the poem variously called The Dialogue of Ipuwer and the Lord of All or The Admonitions (Mahnworte), from the Middle Kingdom of ancient Egypt. The first part of the book comprises an analysis of several literary aspects of the poem, including its unity, compositional date, reception, possible setting, genre, literary style and meaning. It also offers a literary reading of the poem within the context of the cultural and intellectual milieu that produced it. The second part of the book provides a detailed translation, commentary to, and literary reading of, the poem, subdivided into sections that largely follow the divisions within the manuscript. A metrical transliteration is given, broadly following the prosodic principles of Gerhard Fecht, which provide a pragmatic formal mode of analysis. The degree to which these are relevant to the compositional structure of the poem is discussed.

A produção de macroalgas é um dos segmentos da maricultura com grande potencial de desenvolvimento ao longo do litoral brasileiro. A biomassa da macroalga vermelha Kappaphycus alvarezii é rotineiramente utilizada para produção de carragena, um hidrocolóide utilizado em diversas aplicações na indústria alimentícia. Atualmente o extrato de K. alvarezii tem demonstrado resultados promissores quando utilizado como biofertilizante ou bioestimulante aplicados à agricultura. Estudos indicam que a utilização do extrato de K. alvarezzi auxilia na absorção de nutrientes, melhoraram o rendimento e a qualidade da colheita além de fornecerem às plantas um nível de tolerância ao estresse abiótico. Neste sentido, este trabalho foi desenvolvido para avaliar o processo de produção e as condições de conservação do extrato de K. alvarezii produzidas na região da Baía da Ilha Grande. Amostras de algas foram coletadas em fazendas marinhas14 horas antes de seu beneficiamento. Em laboratório, foram lavadas em água corrente para limpeza e retirada de organismos incrustantes, processadas em liquidificador e separadas manualmente por compressão em frações líquidas e sólidas. A eficiência do processo produtivo foi determinada através do rendimento das frações. Para os testes de conservação, foram monitorados ao longo de 29 dias o pH e a condutividade elétrica de seis amostras de 100ml de extrato algal (fase líquida) conforme os respectivos métodos de conservação: controle (23°C), frio (8°C), Ácido cítrico 0,1% e 0,3%, Sorbato de Potássio 0,025% e 0,1%. O rendimento médio resultante para a fração líquida (extrato da alga fresca) foi de 0,65 ±0,01 L Kg-1 e para fração sólida úmida foi de 324 ±11 g Kg-1. O pH e a condutividade elétrica da solução controle variaram de 6,57 ±0,04 à 4,67 ±0,04 e 58 ±0,1 à 168,3 ±2,9 mV. Os métodos de conservação à frio (8°C) e com Sorbato de Potássio 0,025% demonstram um melhor desempenho com relação ao grupo controle apresentando menor oscilação de pH e condutividade elétrica ao longo do período de monitoramento. As amostras que receberam Ácido cítrico acentuaram a acidez do extrato demonstrando sinais de contaminação a partir do 8° dia de monitoramento. Novos testes estão em andamento a fim de otimizar os processos de produção e conservação do extrato visando sobretudo obter um maior rendimento da fase líquida e incrementar a capacidade de conservação do extrato.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of obesity on the survival of patients with breast cancer (BC) treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NCT) in two public hospitals in Brazil. Methods: This is a retrospective, multicenter study that evaluates women with BC at Pérola Byington (HPB) and State Public Servant (HSPE) hospitals between January 2011 and May 2020. Stages I–III, age ≥18 years, and who underwent NCT were included. Patients were categorized by the World Health Organization definition as follows: body mass index (BMI) < 18.5 kg/m2 : malnutrition; 18.5 to < 25 kg/m2 : normal; 25 to < 30 kg/m2 : overweight; ≥30 kg/m2 : obesity. Pathological complete response (pCR) was defined as the absence of invasive breast and axillary tumors. T-test or chi-square test was used to individually analyze the association of each variable between groups with and without pCR. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to calculate odds ratios, 95% confidence intervals of the independent variables BMI, age, and clinical stage, correlated with pCR with p-value <0.05 as statistically significant. Results: We enrolled 1779 patients, mean age of 50 years, and mean BMI of 28.08 kg/m2 . Most of them were in stage III (68%) with ductal histological type (95.11%). After NCT, 1435 patients had residual disease and 344 patients had pCR. The BMI ratio was 1.57% malnutrition, 30.58% normal, 35.13% overweight, and 32.72% obese. When the pCR was associated with BMI, there was no significance on overall survival (OS) when evaluating separate centers (HPB: p=0.46, HSPE: p=0.49) or together (p=0.83). Disease-free survival was only possible in HPB without significance (p=0.83) for BMI. Conclusion: This Brazilian study showed no interference of BMI on OS in patients submitted to NCT with pCR. There were few patients achieving pCR (19.34%) probably because of the initial stage. Despite not having an impact on survival, most of our women were overweight or obese (72.85%), showing how obesity is common in Brazilian women and should be understood as a public health problem.

Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is the most effective and practical method for reduction of NOx emission in Internal Combustion Engines. However, improper application of EGR in the engine causes higher power loss, excessive specific fuel consumption (SFC) and an increase in the concentration of other pollutants. For this reason, the amount and temperature of EGR must be tailored for each engine in order to get optimum performance and emission results. In this research work, after comparison of hot and cooled EGR for an S-I engine, pollutant behavior has also been studied around Dew point temperature of exhaust gasses. Results indicate that the pollutant’s behavior depend on the EGR mixture (amount and temperature), thermal capacity of EGR and amount of water condensation. For example, when the amount of EGR is 10% there is a higher reduction of NOx with ignorable power loss. Results also showed that the optimum temperature in experimental conditions and in this particular engine is about 340–343 Kelvin, which is just above the Dew point of exhaust gases.

Abstract A cracking damage was found in 347SS flange neck operated at about 520 deg. C after long term operation. In previous report presented in PVP2019-9304, it was well explained by creep damage from FEM analysis using isochronous curve based on API 579/ASME FFS-1 MPC Omega method. Following our previous paper, specimens were obtained from the replaced flange operated for 4 years. Using those specimens, destructive testing and remaining life assessment were performed to validate the analysis. As a result, specimens from the flange neck showed relatively short rupture life, compared to those from other locations. MPC Omega method along with adjustment factors derived from testing resulted in remaining life of 3.1 to 6.8 × 105 hrs. at average operating condition. In consideration with temperature variation during operation, remaining life is estimated to be 2.6 × 10-5 hrs., indicating 10 % life consumption at the time of taking sample. Life consumption estimated by FEM analysis is rather conservative but is comparable within factor of 2 when average strength is applied for the evaluation. Since the estimated stress conditions and test conditions are close to 0.2% proof stress of the material at this temperature range, significant primary creep strain was observed in the tests, that can cause some conservativeness in remaining life by the FEM analysis. While above, Larson Miller Parameter method also adjusted with rupture test data agrees with MPC Omega method on the assumption of uniaxial tension. However, it gives less-conservative life under the multiaxial stress conditions. Effect of multiaxial stress on creep life is more significantly observed in MPC Omega method, especially when stress ratio is higher. In this part I of two papers, the detail of creep test will be presented and discussed. In part II, current creep temperature limit shown in API579-1/ASME FFS-1 Part 4 Table 4.1 will be discussed and suggest an upgrade of creep temperature criteria based on the multi-axial creep model we learned through studies.

Denne rapport har til formål at sammenfatte, hvordan HF-uddannelsen på Steinersko-lerne har fungeret, siden den implementeredes i 2018. Evalueringen har over en 2-årig periode fulgt to hovedspor, nemlig på den ene side et spørgeskema til alle elever på Steiner HF og på den anden side kvalitative interviews med rektorer og lærere ved de 5 HF-skoler inden for sammenslutningen af Steinersko-lerne i Danmark. Spørgeskemaet sigtede efter at frembringe et samlet overblik over eleverne (køn og so-cial baggrund), deres vurdering af HF-undervisningen ved de 5 skoler, deres ønsker om videre uddannelse efter HF og tillige også, om de har haft behov for at supplere deres HF-uddannelse med gymnasiale suppleringskurser for at kunne blive optaget på den uddannelse, de har ønsket at gennemføre. Samtalerne med rektorer og lærere har i særdeleshed været optaget af, hvordan de 5 skoler har formået at implementere de mange og omfattende ændringer, som en over-gang fra friskole til kombineret institution med privat gymnasium har indebåret. Æn-dringerne har bestået i faglig kompetenceudvikling af lærere ved skolerne (f.eks. i form af universitetseksamener og pædagogikum), rekruttering af nye lærere til at dække de fag, HF forudsættes at omfatte, og ikke mindst organisatoriske forandringer som følge af etableringen af HF på 5 Steinerskoler. Disse interviews blev gennemført af videnska-belig assistent Naya Lykke Jørgensen og ph.d.-studerende Malene Engsig Brodersen, DPU. På grundlag heraf skrev Naya og Malene en samlet rapport, som blev drøftet med følgegruppen og rektorer på et møde i maj måned 2022. Fra mødet og efterfølgende ind-kom kommentarer og forslag til forbedringer, som er indgået i den endelige rapport, der udgør en del af denne samlede afrapportering. Selve evalueringen har fundet sted i et tæt samarbejde med skolernes følgegruppe og Steinerskolernes sekretariat. Et første udkast til elektronisk spørgeskema udformet af projektleder med teknisk bistand fra ph.d.-studerende Anders Astrup Christensen, DPU, diskuteredes ad flere omgange, inden det fandt sin endelige og således også rele-vante form, bl.a. efter at have været pilottestet af tidligere HF-elever. Målet var at skabe sikkerhed for, at eleverne kunne forstå spørgsmålene og dermed var sikre på, hvad de blev bedt om at svare på. Skemaet udsendtes august 2021 til Steiner HFs første kuld som surveyXact. Besvarelsesprocenten var over 85, hvilket betød, at forskere og følgegruppe havde et bredt og robust fundament for at kunne gennemgå det indkomne materiale og foretage de første deskriptive analyser af fundene i skemaet. I løbet af efteråret 2021 og foråret 2022 blev skemaet endnu engang gennemgået i dybden, spørgsmål tilrettet og nye spørgsmål tilføjet. Derefter udsendtes det reviderede skema til alle tidligere HF-ele- ver, hvorved et ensartet grundlag for besvarelse var sikret. I alt udsendtes skemaet i au- gust 2022 til 360 elever. Heraf besvarede 344 enten hele spørgeskemaet eller betydelige dele heraf. Selve rapporten er opbygget i tre dele. Første del (A) gennemgår fundene i spørgeske- maet, anden del (B) består af en rapport byggende på samtaler og interviews med rekto- rer og lærere, mens tredje del (C) består af oversigter over kompetenceløftet for under- viserne. Vi vil gerne benytte lejligheden til at takke rektorer, lærere, HF-unge samt følgegruppen for venlig imødekommenhed og frugtbare diskussioner undervejs i forløbet. Havsfiskelaboratoriets trålexpeditioner i Västerhavet (Skagerrak och Kattegatt) genomförs två gånger årligen, i kvartal 1 och 3. Fisket utförs med den franska bottentrålen GOV. Under expeditionen gjordes totalt 46 giltiga tråldrag i hela området, 22 i Skagerrak och 19 i Kattegatt samt fem i östliga Nordsjön. Fångsten utgjordes av 18,1 ton sill, 6 ton skarpsill, 5 ton kolja och 275 kg torsk, inalles 57 fiskarter med en totalfångst av 35,6 ton. Biologiska parametrar på individnivå samlas in på sill- och torskfiskar samt några plattfiskar. Totalt provtogs 3 343 individer från 11 olika målarter med avseende på ålder och könsmognad. Torsk-index i både Skagerrak och Kattegatt har minskat kraftigt. Ettårig kolja uppvisar en relativt god förekomst i Skagerrak till följd av förra årets starka rekrytering men årets rekrytering är svag. Sillen visar en stor 1-grupp i både Skagerrak och Kattegatt.

Projektet “Sektorkobling via Energifællesskaber” undersøger, hvordan digital teknologi kan supportere lokale energifællesskaber, der gerne vil indgå som samlepunkt for forskellige energi og forsyningssektorer (el, varme, og vand). Problemejerne for projektet er Energifællesskab Avedøre (EFA), der er Danmarks første borgerdrevet energifællesskab [8]. Da borgerne er vigtige aktører i energifællesskaber, er det derfor relevant at sætte menneskelige værdier i centrum for at forstå, hvordan supporterende digitale teknologier kan udformes med mulige etiske udfordringer for øje. I dette forskningsnotat afrapporterer vi på et brugerstudie udført af medarbejdere fra forskningsgruppen Human-Centered Computing på Institut for Datalogi, Aalborg Universitet. Som en del af dette studie, har vi benyttet Værdi-Sensitivt Design (VSD) [10] til at kortlægge socio-tekniske [16, 37] værdier, der på spil for medlemmer og aktører i EnergiFælleskab Avedøre. Vi mener, at identifikationen af disse værdier kan spille en vigtig rolle i at forstå, hvilke socio-tekniske værdier der udspiller sig – og eventuelt er i konflikt – i dette nyoprettet energifællesskab. Desuden bidrager denne viden med at forstå hvordan værdier kan supporteres gennem udvikling af digitale teknologier. Som en del af dette arbejde har vi udført en analyse af værdier identificeret i litteraturen omkring bæredygtig omstilling og digitale platforme. Dernæst har vi gennem en tematisk analyse [4] af interviews med forskellige aktører i EFA, undersøgt forventningerne til EFA, og hvordan disse forventninger kobler sig på forskellige værdier. Dette arbejde har resulteret i et dybdegående indblik i, hvilke værdier er vigtige at holde for øje, når der skal udformes nye digitale energi-platforme til sektorkobling via energifællesskaber. Baseret på denne analyse har vi gennem samarbejde med FlexShape udviklet en informationsskærm til opsætning på Hvidovre Gymnasium, som håndterer udvalgte værdier. Vi rapporterer udvalgt på denne informationsskærm fra et VSD-perspektiv. Vi mener, at værdierne præsenteret i denne rapport, er vigtige af flere grunde. Idet værdier implicit bliver indskrevet i teknologier [34], så kan designere og udviklere også implicit promovere uønskede værdier og forhindre ønskede værdier. Værdierne beskrevet i denne rapport kan fungere som ”ledesten”, som kan holdes for øje i fremtidig design og udvikling. Med de mange interesser i et energifællesskab, så er det også fordelagtigt at have disse værdier ved hånden. Med disse, så kan der foretages bevidste afvejninger af værdier, både i teknisk udvikling såvel som social organisering [16, 37]. Arbejdet beskrevet i denne rapport er blevet finansieret af Den Europæiske Regionale Udviklingsfond: RFD-16-0024. Båtelfiske är en provtagningsmetod som använts relativt sparsamt i Sverige. Denna rapport sammanfattar en provtagningsinsats i företrädelsevis lugnflytande vattendrag i södra Sverige under år 2021. Syftet med provtagningen var att med en ny standardiserad metod [vilken togs fram i samband med detta provfiske, men har publicerats separat (Havs- och vattenmyndigheten, Övervakningsmanual för akvatisk miljöövervakning: Fisk i rinnande vatten – elfiskebåt, version 1.0)] samla in ett dataunderlag som kan används för utveckling av bedömningsgrunder för ekologisk status inom vattenförvaltningen. Eftersom mer data kommer krävas för att utveckla robusta bedömningsgrunder fokuserar rapporten huvudsakligen på att 1) beskriva och motivera metoder och val av insamlad data, 2) beskriva fångsterna i grova drag, i förhållande till tidigare skattad fysikaliskkemisk status och ett antal omgivningsvariabler, och 3) undersöka vilka typer av vattendrag som vi saknar data från efter insatsen 2021. Rapporten avslutas med en sektion som presenterar de erfarenheter vi fått under 2021 års elfisken. Totalt fångades 18 arter och 8885 individer i 18 vattenförekomster (38 provfiskeplatser). Arterna som fångades i flest provfisken var: mört (18 vattenförekomster, vfk; 37 provfiskeplatser, pfp), abborre (17; 34), benlöja (16 vfk; 31 pfp), gädda (15 vfk; 29 pfp) och sarv (9 vfk; 16 pfp). Vi noterade att ovanligare arter med känd förekomst i ett vattendrag inte alltid fångas, att bottenlevande arter inte fångades i särskilt stor utsträckning, att gädda tenderar att fly undan elfiskebåten på ickehåvbart avstånd och att stimlevande fisk (t.ex. benlöja och yngel av karpfisk) till relativt stor andel kan missas när mängden individer som påverkas av elfisket är stor. Med kännedom om dessa skevheter i data (d.v.s. jämfört den antagna faktiska fiskförekomsten) torde dock ändå bedömningar om den ekologiska statusen gå att göra, åtminstone i grova drag, t.ex. genom analys av relativ frekvens och storleksfördelning av vanligt förekommande arter. Olika miljövariablers relation till fångsten (antal arter och antal individer) undersöktes grafiskt med slutsatsen att mer data krävs för att se generella mönster. Observerad dödlighet var i genomsnitt 3,4 %, men variationen mellan olika provfiskeplatser var stor (spann 0 – 31 %). Överlag var dock observerad dödlighet betydligt lägre än 10 %. Vad gäller fördröjd dödlighet är läget idag okänt. Vattendragstyper där data saknas efter 2021 års båtelfisken utgör en allt för lång lista för att summeras i denna sammanfattning (se istället sammanställning i Tabell 2-5). Generellt anser vi att den nya standardiserade metoden förefaller fungera bra i medelstora vattendrag med relativt höga fisktätheter, däremot verkar det finnas potentiella problem att fånga tillräcklig mängd fisk i större vattendrag (antagligen på grund av att fisken är mer rumsmässigt utspridd).

Svensk grisproduktion har genomgått stora förändringar och omstruktureringar under de senaste decennierna, vilket resulterat i allt färre företag. I dagsläget finns det drygt 1100 aktiva grisföretagare, spridda över landet. Trots strukturomvandlingen med allt fler stora specialiserade grisföretag finns det även en hel del företag med ett mindre antal djur. Föreliggande rapport med fokus på erfarenheter gällande arbetsförhållanden inom grisproduktionen baseras på svar från 288 företagare av totalt 814 (35%) möjliga och relevanta med angiven epostadress i SCB.s lantbruksregister. Av dessa var närmare 25% kvinnor och hälften av grisföretagarna hade varit verksamma mer än 20 år. Smågrisproduktion bedrevs av 20%, slaktsvinsproduktion 40% och integrerad produktion stod för 40% av svaren. Ca 90% av företagen bedrevs konventionellt, medan drygt 10% hade någon form av ekologisk produktion. Vidare framkom att mer än hälften av företagen hade anställd personal. En stor del av frågeställningarna i studien var inriktade på skador och hälsobesvär, goda exempel, problem samt lösningar och åtgärder vid olika arbetsmoment. Vad gäller utfodringsarbetet var det inte så vanligt med skador och hälsobesvär, men incidenter med galtar och sinsuggor, andningsbesvär och besvär i rörelseorganen rapporterades. Fördelar med automatisk utfodring och blötutfodring framhölls i en hel del svar. Problem vid utfodring gällde t ex: larm under nattetid, ständig jour och ensamarbete. Manuell utfodring där man bar spannar och utfodrade smågrisar framhölls som fysiskt påfrestande. De som hade utegrisar berättade att dåligt väder under höst och vinter kunde göra utfodringsarbetet tungt och besvärligt. Andra risker gällde bl.a. dammig miljö samt stress och skaderisker vid krånglande utfodringssystem. Vad gäller behov av åtgärder var det främst tekniska lösningar som önskades för att förbättra arbetsmiljön vid utfodringsarbetet. Vid utgödsling, rengöring/tvätt samt halmhantering framkom främst besvär gällande luftmiljöns påverkan på andningsorganen, oron för gödselgaser samt det påfrestande arbetet med maunell högtrycksrengöring. Vad gäller goda exempel framhöll man främst tvättroboten som ett hjälpmedel som verkligen förbättrade arbetsmiljön. Ett annat exempel var automatisk halmspridning och transport av halm på räls. Problem och förbättringsförslag gällde främst manuell högtrycksvätt och svårigheter med användning av andningsskydd vid detta arbete. Andra förbättringsbehov framkom gällande krånglande utgödslingsanläggningar och den slitsamma manuella skrapningen av boxar. Rapporter gällande skador och hälsobesvär vid skötsel av djur gällde bl.a. aggressiva suggor och incidenter vid vaccinationer. Kläm- och trampskador och handledsproblem vid arbete med smågrisar var också vanligt förekommande. Lugna djur och lugna djurskötare togs upp som goda exempel tillsammans med slopande av konventionell grisvägning. Problem som upplevdes var främst stora, tunga och ibland aggressiva djur, seminering och vaccinationer samt stämpling av djur och vägning. Behov av tekniska lösningar, t.ex. gällande vägning samt bättre avelsarbete framfördes. Andra arbetsuppgifter gällde djurhantering och djurförflyttning, där det främst rapporterades kläm-, halk- och bitskador. Kadavervagn, stora utlastningsrum och drivgångar var bland de goda exempel som framkom. Rapporter gällande problem handlade om avlivning av stora suggor och svårigheten att flytta stora tunga kroppar som låg illa till. Andra problem som förekom var flyttning av grisar vid dåligt väder och med okunnig personal samt urskiljning av slaktfärdiga grisar i boxarna. Tekniklösningar var det man främst tänkte sig för att förbättra arbetsmiljön, men mer personal underlättade också arbetet. Användning av personlig skyddsutrustning var ganska vanligt förekommande vid stallarbetet, främst stålhätta/skyddsskor, hörselskydd och andningsskydd, ca 60-80% använde detta, beroende på arbetsuppgift. Gaslarm användes på tre av de 34 arbetsplatser med vaccumutgödslingssystem, men flera skrev att de borde skaffa gaslarm. Andra viktiga faktorer i grisföretagarnas arbetsmiljö gällde personal och psykosociala aspekter. Svårigheter att hitta personal med lämplig kompetens var problematiskt, där man påpekade att språk och kommunikation var viktigt. När det gällde orosfaktorer var det främst ekonomin, djurrättsaktivister samt administrativa krav som upplevdes som påfrestande. Bland de faktorer som skapar arbetsglädje var välmående djur, välfungerande personal och goda produktionsresultat det som flest uppskattade. Studiens resultat har visat att det fortfarande finns arbetsmiljöproblem inom svensk grisproduktion, men att det i många fall även finns goda exempel på tekniska och organisatoriska lösningar. Ett bra exempel är arbetet med tvätt av stallar som upplevs som väldigt påfrestande vid manuell högtryckstvätt, medan tvättrobotar upplevs som en stor förbättring. Andra tekniska lösningar med stor potential att förbättra arbetsmiljön är automatiska halmfördelningssystem , automatiserad vägning och kvalitetsförbättrade utgödslingssystem. Även bättre design och ergonomi för handhållna hjälpmedel för vaccinationer, tandslipning och märkning hade varit till stor nytta. Luftmiljön i grisstall behöver fortsatt utveckling och förbättring och så länge det inte finns optimala lösningar är det viktigt med bra andningsskydd som är enkla och bekväma att använda. Användningen av tillförlitliga gaslarm i alla stallar med vaccumutgödsling borde vara självklart och obligatoriskt. Det är viktigt att inte glömma vikten av att grisnäringen har tillgång till kompetent och motiverad stallpersonal, vilket kan vara ett problem för en del av de medverkande företagarna. Att ha goda ekonomiska förutsättningar, uppleva trygghet mot att drabbas av aktivism, friska djur och en minskad byråkrati hade gjort livet ännu bättre för Sveriges grisproducenter!

This Country Program Evaluation (CPE) with Honduras covers the period between January 2011 and April 2014 and is the fourth occasion on which the Office of Evaluation and Oversight (OVE) has evaluated the Bank's program with the country. Previous evaluations covered the periods 1990-2000 (document RE-263), 2001-2006 (document RE-328), and 2007-2010 (document RE-390). Under the Protocol for Country Program Evaluation (document RE-348-3), the main goal of a CPE is to "provide information on Bank performance at the country level that is credible and useful, and that enables the incorporation of lessons and recommendations that can be used to improve the development effectiveness of the Bank's overall strategy and program of country assistance."The current country strategy (document GN-2645) was approved in November 2011 and does not coincide with the country's political cycle. President Porfirio Lobo's administration was in office from January 2010 to January 2014. IDB Management expects to submit a new country strategy to the Board of Executive Directors in December 2014. The evaluation is structured into four chapters, plus an annex. Chapter I analyzes the general context of the country. Chapter II provides a general analysis of the Bank's program between January 2011 and April 2014, with particular attention devoted to the relevance of the country strategy and an analysis of the program actually implemented. Chapter III provides a sector-based analysis of the implementation, effectiveness, and sustainability of operations and of progress made toward the Bank's proposed strategic objectives. Chapter IV presents conclusions and recommendations.

El capital de riesgo (venture capital) es una herramienta ampliamente utilizada para promover el desarrollo de ciertas industrias y apoyar el crecimiento de empresas en etapas tempranas que, al no contar con historial financiero, presentan dificultades para acceder a financiamiento. En los últimos 10 años, Chile ha sido uno de los países de LAC que más inversión de riesgo ha recibido, sin embargo, su acceso aún es limitado. Su principal inversor es la Corporación de Fomento de la Producción (CORFO), que en el 2021 comprometió US$955 millones en 60 fondos distintos, apalancando US$339 millones (el 34% del total) desde el sector privado. El presente informe introduce la estructura de este mercado en Chile y analiza, cuantitativa y cualitativamente, los resultados de los programas CORFO de apoyo al capital de riesgo. Cuantitativamente, se desarrollaron dos tipos de análisis: (i) estadística descriptiva, y (ii) análisis de rentabilidad (ROA bruto, ROA neto de los portafolios y ROE neto del fondo de inversión). Cualitativamente, se entrevistaron a 51 actores clave del ecosistema que mostraron un consenso sobre el rol clave de CORFO para el desarrollo de esta industria en el país. No obstante, también señalan la persistencia de barreras que limitan la mejora de las inversiones y el aumento de la escala de los proyectos.

This policy brief answers three main questions with respect to the no-user-fee policy adopted across public health centres in Jamaica: (i) Has the policy improved health status among working age adults? (ii) Has the policy influenced labour market dynamics? (iii) Has the policy had differential effects by age groups? Evidence suggests that the policy improved overall health status, as the likelihood of suffering illnesses associated with inability to carry out normal activities decreased by 28.6 percent. In addition, the number of days where people were unable to perform normal activities due to illnesses suffered within the previous four weeks decreased by 34 percent. Regarding labour market dynamics, no effects are found on the likelihood of being employed or contributing to the National Insurance Scheme. However, consistent with a reduced number of days lost due to illnesses, we find a positive effect of 2.15 additional weekly labour hours. Finally, we find that all of these positive effects are concentrated within adults in the 40-64 year-old age range. Overall, these effects suggest that the policy added a yearly average of US$PPP 26.6 million worth of net real production to the Jamaican economy during the period 2008-12.

This document is the evaluation of the IDB's Country Program with Paraguay for the 2009-2013 period. The period evaluated here (hereinafter, the 'review period') was characterized by a political crisis and the intensification of the agricultural export model. This evaluation has been conducted in accordance with OVE's mandate (RE-238 corr.) and the Protocol for Country Program Evaluation (RE-348-2). Its main purposes are to facilitate accountability and identify lessons learned that may help improve the Bank's future program. The evaluation took into account the new country strategy document formats (CSD, GN-2468-6) developed by Management. The most significant practical effects of the new CSD formats were: (i) the de facto separation between the preparation of the CSD and country programming; (ii) the new emphasis on sector notes; and (iii) the update of the strategy's results matrix and the programming documents. To achieve the dual purpose of accountability and learning, the team has put together a portfolio that includes all the operations approved in the period (2009-2013) together with those approved previously, but executed during this period. The specific details of the portfolio and the main sectors are included in the annexes to this document (Portfolio, Energy, Water and Sanitation, Roads, Social Sector, and Agriculture). During the preparation of this document some 150 people were interviewed, including the Bank's main counterparts (the Minister of Finance and his two predecessors), executing units, members of civil society, scholars, representatives of multilateral and bilateral agencies with a presence in Paraguay, the Bank's Representative (ad interim), and two former Representatives of the Bank in Paraguay, IDB staff at the Bank's Country Office and at Headquarters. The mission also visited eight projects to observe the outcomes and challenges of the Bank's program in situ.

Global value chains (GVCs) provide countries with opportunities to diversify trade, and boost productivity and growth by specializing in one stage of the production process. However, for the most part, Latin America and the Caribbean participation in GVCs remains low (18 percent) compared to Asia (28 percent) and Europe (34 percent). The COVID-19 pandemic, plus concerns regarding protectionism and the more frequent occurrence of natural disasters, have provided incentives for countries and companies to reassess their positions in global value chains. This crisis has taken a huge toll on trade, but it could also be an opportunity to boost regional integration and value chains within the region. Despite the crisis, some firms have performed well, even in those sectors where global demand has fallen, while others have lost market share. This paper analyzes the performance of individual firms, drawing on the study of rich micro data, to understand their different capacity of trade creation and destruction over the crisis. Results suggest five firm characteristics play a key role in explaining export performance during the pandemic: i) firm size, ii) diversification of export markets, iii) importer status of the firm, iv) distance from foreign suppliers, and v) performance of the firms suppliers and customers. The results are then used to outline policies fostering firms participation in global value chains.
