Abstract (sommario):

We identified a new calmodulin kinase I (CaMKI) substrate, cytidyltransferase (CCTα), a crucial enzyme required for maintenance of cell membranes. CCTα becomes activated with translocation from the cytoplasm to the nuclear membrane, resulting in increased membrane phospholipids. Calcium-activated CCTα nuclear import is mediated by binding of its C-terminus to 14-3-3 ζ, a regulator of nuclear trafficking. Here CaMK1 phosphorylates residues within this C-terminus that signals association of CCTα with 14-3-3 ζ to initiate calcium-induced nuclear entry. CaMKI docks within the CCTα membrane-binding domain (residues 290–299), a sequence that displays similarities to a canonical nuclear export signal (NES) that also binds CRM1/exportin 1. Expression of a CFP-CCTα mutant lacking residues 290–299 in cells results in cytosolically retained enzyme. CRM1/exportin 1 was required for CCTα nuclear export, and its overexpression in cells was partially sufficient to trigger CCTα nuclear export despite calcium stimulation. An isolated CFP-290-299 peptide remained in the nucleus in the presence of leptomycin B but was able to target to the cytoplasm with farnesol. Thus CaMKI vies with CRM1/exportin 1 for access to a NES, and assembly of a CaMKI–14-3-3 ζ–CCTα complex is a key effector mechanism that drives nuclear CCTα translocation.

The prosenescence role of miR-290 and nocodazole has been documented in primary mouse embryo fibroblasts (MEF), while it is not clear whether immortal murine fibroblasts are still responsive to these senescence inducing stimuli. To establish this point, immortal murine fibroblasts with functional (NIH3T3) or nonfunctional p53 (I-MEF) and low levels of miR-290 were tested for their capability to undergo senescence after exposure to either nocodazole or miR-290. Our results clearly indicate that nocodazole induces senescence only in NIH3T3 cells with a functional p53 but not in I-MEF lacking a functional p53. miR-290 overexpression is unable to address any of the tested immortalized clones toward senescence, regardless of the p53 status, suggesting that the prosenescence role of miR-290 is specific for primary but not for immortal murine fibroblasts. Moreover our findings suggest that the mere downregulation of a potential tumor suppressor miRNA in a given cell type does not necessarily imply that it behaves as a tumor suppressor.

Glycerinated rabbit psoas myofibrils, F-actin, and myofibril ghosts were irradiated with ultraviolet light (UV) to investigate how UV blocks myofibril contraction. Myofibril contraction is most sensitive to 270- and 290-nm wavelength light. We irradiated I and A bands separately with 270- and 290-nm wavelength light using a UV microbeam and constructed dose-response curves for blocking sarcomere contraction. For both wavelengths, irradiations of A bands required less energy per area to block contraction than did irradiations of I bands, suggesting that the primary effects of both 270- and 290-nm wavelength light in stopping myofibril contraction are on myosin. We investigated whether the primary effect of UV in blocking I-band contraction is the depolymerization of actin by comparing the relative sensitivities of I-band contraction, F-actin depolymerization, and thin filament depolymerization to 270- and 290-nm light. We also compared the dose of UV required to depolymerize F-actin in solution with the dose needed to block I-band contraction and the dose required to alter thin filament structure in myofibril ghosts. The results confirm that UV blocks I-band contraction by depolymerizing actin. We discuss how the results might be relevant to the hypothesis that an actomyosin-based system is involved in chromosome movement.

Abstract (sommario):

Zasadniczym celem artykułu jest przedstawienie przestępstw związanych z nadużyciem władzy przez urzędników oraz z korupcją urzędniczą zawartych w rozdziale 30 kodeksu karnego Federacji Rosyjskiej zatytułowanym — „Przestępstwa przeciwko władzy państwowej, interesom służby państwowej i służby w organach samorządu terytorialnego”. W artykule przeanalizowano trzy artykuły rosyjskiego kodeksu karnego odnoszące się do przestępstw związanych z korupcją urzędniczą — mianowicie art. 285 „Nadużycie władzy”, art. 290 „Przyjęcie łapówki” oraz art. 291 „Wręczenie łapówki”. W opracowaniu przeanalizowane także skalę i dynamikę wymienionych przestępstw dzięki wykorzystaniu materiałów zgromadzonych przez Prokuraturę Generalną Federacji Rosyjskiej w latach 2009–2017 w odniesieniu do poszczególnych podmiotów Federacji Rosyjskiej, w których popełnionych zostało najwięcej przestępstw związanych z nadużyciem władzy, przyjęciem łapówki oraz wręczeniem łapówki.

Abstract Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune prothrombotic disorder in association with autoantibodies to phospholipid (PL)–binding plasma proteins, such as β2-glycoprotein I (β2GPI). We have recently found that CD4+ T cells autoreactive to β2GPI in patients with APS preferentially recognize a cryptic peptide encompassing amino acid residues 276-290 (p276-290), which contains the major PL-binding site, in the context of DR53. However, it is not clear how previously cryptic p276-290 becomes visible to the immune system and elicits a pathogenics autoimmune response to β2GPI. Here we show that presentation of a disease-relevant cryptic T-cell determinant in β2GPI is induced as a direct consequence of antigen processing from β2GPI bound to anionic PL. Dendritic cells or macrophages pulsed with PL-bound β2GPI induced a response of p276-290–specific CD4+ T-cell lines generated from the patients in an HLA-DR–restricted and antigen-processing–dependent manner but those with β2GPI or PL alone did not. In addition, the p276-290–reactive T-cell response was primed by stimulating peripheral blood T cells from DR53-carrying healthy individuals with dendritic cells bearing PL-bound β2GPI in vitro. Our finding is the first demonstration of an in vitro mechanism eliciting pathogenic autoreactive T-cell responses to β2GPI and should be useful in clarifying the pathogenesis of APS.

Abstract (sommario):

Coordination polymers (CPs) are organo-inorganic porous materials consisting of metal ions or clusters and organic linkers. These compounds have attracted attention for use in the fluorescence detection of pollutants. Here, two Zn-based mixed-ligand-bearing CPs, [Zn2(DIN)2(HBTC2−)2] (CP-1) and [Zn(DIN)(HBTC2−)]·ACN·H2O (CP-2) (DIN = 1,4-di(imidazole-1-yl)naphthalene, H3BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid, and ACN = acetonitrile), were synthesized under solvothermal conditions. CP-1 and CP-2 were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, elemental analysis, and powder X-ray diffraction analysis. Solid-state fluorescence analysis revealed an emission peak at 350 nm upon excitation at 225 and 290 nm. Fluorescence sensing tests showed that CP-1 was highly efficient, sensitive, and selective for detecting Cr2O72− at 225 and 290 nm, whereas I− was only detected well at an excitation of 225 nm. CP-1 detected pesticides differently at excitation wavelengths of 225 and 290 nm; the highest quenching rates were for nitenpyram at 225 nm and imidacloprid at 290 nm. The quenching process may occur via the inner filter effect and fluorescence resonance energy transfer.

Celem badań przeprowadzonych w latach 2011–2013 było określenie wpływu zaprawiania bulw ziemniaka zaprawą chemiczną Prestige 290 FS oraz preparatami biologicznymi FZB 24 WG i Proradix WG na wzrost i rozwój roślin trzech odmian ziemniaka – Cyprian, Finezja i Flaming. Uzyskane wyniki badań dynamiki rozwoju roślin wykazały skuteczność zabiegu zaprawiania. Rośliny, których bulwy zaprawiano badanymi preparatami, charakteryzowały się większymi wartościami analizowanych parametrów (masa pędów, bulw i korzeni) we wszystkich fazach rozwoju w stosunku do obiektu kontrolnego.

Peptides with 42 amino acid residues have been designed to fold into helix-loop-helix motifs that dimerize to form four-helix bundles and catalyze the hydrolysis of p-nitrophenyl esters. Their reactivities depend on nucleophilic and general-acid catalysis by cooperative HisH+-His pairs. The peptide catalyst MNV with the HisH+-His pair separated by three residues within the helical segment catalyzes the hydrolysis of p-nitrophenyl fumarate with a second-order rate constant of 0.034 M-1 s-1 at pH 5.1 and 290 K. This i, i+3 site is a factor of three more efficient than the corresponding i, i+4 site. Helix-loop-helix peptides having histidines situated at opposing helices were designed and exhibited cooperative HisH+-His catalytic pairs. The peptide H11,34K hydrolyzed p-nitrophenyl acetate and p-nitrophenyl valerate with second-order rate constants of 0.044 and 0.15 M-1 s-1, respectively, at pH 5.1 and 290 K, indicating that the hydrophobic substituent was recognized by the catalyst.Key words: de novo design, helix-loop-helix, four-helix bundle, histidine, catalysis.

Ubi jalar berdaging jingga potensial untuk bahan pangan karena mengandung karbohidrat, untuk pangan fungsional karena mengandung beta karoten dan untuk industri karena bisa dijadikan pati dan alkohol. Ada 43 genotip ubi jalar berdaging jingga yang telah terseleksi dari penelitian pendahuluan untuk diuji komponen hasil umbi dan kandungan fisikokimianya di lahan kering dan lahan basah yang bertujuan untuk melihat perbedaan karakter genotip pada kedua agroekosistem. Metode yang digunakan adalah Augmented design tahap I dengan 5 check. Blok percobaan dibagi menjadi 4 (empat) blok, plot berbentuk guludan dengan panjang 5 meter dan lebar 1 meter. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada perbedaan respon karakter pada 43 genotip ubi jalar berdaging jingga di laha tegalan dan lahan bekas sawah. Karakter yang menjadi penciri spesifik adalah karakter pada sektor V adalah jumlah umbi per plot (G), pada sektor ini genotip yang beragam ada 17 genotip di lahan tegalan, yaitu 194 (276), 186 (322), 193 (275), 199 (294), 195 (281), 42 (10), 217 (493), 219 (473), 190 (350), 201 (295), 28 (106), 110 (237), 117 (240), 112 (232), 119 (247), 203 (290), dan 113 (222). Sedangkan di lahan bekas sawah tidak ada genotip yang beragam. Genotip dengan jumlah rata-rata karakter tertinggi paling banyak adalah 224 (399b), 42 (10), dan 199 (294) yaitu masing-masing 17, 16, dan 15. Kata kunci : Ubi jalar jingga, beta karoten, lahan basah, lahan kering.

In this response to Asle Eikrem’s discussion of my program for “Systematic Theology as Contemporary Theology” (DTT 2008, 290-310), I lay out my principled reasons for maintaining the distinction between Theology1, 2 and 3. While I find Eikrem’s proposals concerning the relation between the semantics and the pragmatics in Theology1 revealing, I argue that systematic theology should not be understood as a purely theoretical metaphysics.

We calculate very accurate ab initio ionization energies for both 4He I and 3He I as well as the isotope shifts for n = 1 to 10, L = 0 to 7 and combined these with precise laboratory data to produce a new table of levels for 4He I and the first table for 3He I. We adopted an experimental ionization potential of 5945 204 290 ± 33 MHz for 4He I and derived 5944 890 770 ± 33 MHz for 3He I. Bumetanide-sensitive (BS) unidirectional fluxes of (36)Cl- or (22)Na+ were measured in internally dialyzed squid giant axons while varying the intra- or extracellular concentrations of Na+ and/or Cl-. Raising either [Cl-]i or [Na+]i resulted in a concentration-dependent reduction of the BS influx of both (36)Cl- and (22)Na+. Raising [Cl-]i above 200 mM completely blocked BS influxes. However, raising [Na+]i to 290 mM resulted in saturable but incomplete inhibition of both BS Na+ influx and BS Cl- influx. The consequences of varying intracellular Cl- on cotransporter effluxes were complex. At lower [Cl-]i values (below 100 mM) intracellular Cl- activated cotransporter effluxes. Surprisingly, however, raising [Cl-]i levels > 125 mM resulted in a [Cl-]i-dependent inhibition of BS effluxes of both Na+ and Cl-. On the other hand, raising [Na+]i resulted only in the activation of the BS Na+ efflux; intracellular Na+ did not inhibit BS efflux even at 290 mM. The inhibitory effects of intracellular Na+ on cotransporter-mediated influxes, and lack of inhibitory effects on BS effluxes, are consistent with the trans-side inhibition expected for an ordered binding/release model of cotransporter operation. However, the inhibitory effects of intracellular Cl- on both influxes and effluxes are not explained by such a model. These data suggest that Cl may interact with an intracellular site (or sites), which does not mediate Cl transport, but does modulate the transport activity of the Na+, K+, Cl- cotransporter.

2-Chloro-3-tosyl-5,5-dimethyl-2-cyclohexenone was subjected to a series of regiospecific Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions in suspensions of nine different substituted boronic acids, Pd(OAc)2, P(Ph3)3, K3PO4 and 1,4-dioxane solvent, under sealed tube conditions. The regiospecific substitution of the tosyl-group by the aryl group in preference over the chloride- group was observed. A comparison between the bromo- and tosylate group’s reactivities is highlighted. Using the methodology, the products: 2-chloro-3-aryl-5,5-dimethyl-2-cyclohexenones were isolated in greater than 85% yields. Good quality crystals of three representative compounds were obtained by slow evaporation technique and subjected to single crystal XRD studies, Hirshfeld surface analysis, 3-D energy framework, and molecular docking studies. Crystal data for compound 3; C15H17ClO4S: monoclinic, space group P21/c (no. 14), a = 8.8687(3) Å, b = 10.5537(4) Å, c = 16.6862(7) Å, β = 89.807(3)°, V = 1561.78(10) Å3, Z = 4, T = 290 K, μ(MoKα) = 0.390 mm-1, Dcalc = 1.398 g/cm3, 13623 reflections measured (6.716° ≤ 2Θ ≤ 54.962°), 3570 unique (Rint = 0.0467, Rsigma = 0.0512) which were used in all calculations. The final R1 was 0.0452 (I > 2σ(I)) and wR2 was 0.1019 (all data). Crystal data for compound 5e; C20H18O2FCl: monoclinic, space group P21/c (no. 14), a = 6.4900(5) Å, b = 18.6070(13) Å, c = 14.2146(11) Å, β = 102.324(2)°, V = 1677.0(2) Å3, Z = 4, T = 296(2) K, μ(MoKα) = 0.239 mm-1, Dcalc = 1.309 g/cm3, 25575 reflections measured (6.262° ≤ 2Θ ≤ 52.224°), 3283 unique (Rint = 0.0494, Rsigma = 0.0307) which were used in all calculations. The final R1 was 0.0875 (I > 2σ(I)) and wR2 was 0.2056 (all data). Crystal data for compound 5h; C12H13OSCl: triclinic, space group P-1 (no. 2), a = 6.7517(6) Å, b = 8.8376(9) Å, c = 12.6049(12) Å, α = 109.538(3)°, β = 98.597(3)°, γ = 90.417(3)°, V = 699.52(12) Å3, Z = 2, T = 290 K, μ(MoKα) = 0.410 mm-1, Dcalc = 1.376 g/cm3, 28754 reflections measured (6.114° ≤ 2Θ ≤ 59.288°), 3898 unique (Rint = 0.0544, Rsigma = 0.0349) which were used in all calculations. The final R1 was 0.1101 (I > 2σ(I)) and wR2 was 0.2481 (all data).

We have shown previously that fatty acid synthase (FAS) gene expression is positively regulated by glucose in rat adipose tissue and liver. In the present study, we have identified in the first intron of the gene a sequence closely related to known glucose-responsive elements such as in the L-pyruvate kinase and S14 genes, including a putative upstream stimulatory factor/major late transcription factor (USF/MLTF) binding site (E-box) (+ 292 nt to + 297 nt). Location of this sequence corresponds to a site of hypersensitivity to DNase I which is present in the liver but not in the spleen. Moreover, using this information from a preliminary report of the present work, others have shown that a + 283 nt to + 303 nt sequence of the FAS gene can confer glucose responsiveness to a heterologous promoter. The protein binding to this region has been investigated in vitro by a combination of DNase I footprinting and gel-retardation experiments with synthetic oligonucleotides and known nuclear proteins. DNase I footprinting experiments using a + 161 nt to + 405 nt fragment of the FAS gene demonstrate that a region from + 290 nt to + 316 nt is protected by nuclear extracts from liver and spleen. This region binds two ubiquitous nuclear factors, USF/MLTF and the CAAT-binding transcription factor/nuclear factor 1 (CTF/NF1). Binding of these factors is similar in nuclear extracts from liver which does or does not express the FAS gene as observed for glucose-responsive elements in the L-pyruvate kinase and S14 genes. This suggests a posttranslational modification of a factor of the complex after glucose stimulation.

The four-coordinate anion CuI(dpym)2− (Hdpym = 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethyl-4,4′-dicarboethoxydipyrromethene) can be prepared in solution in acetone either by electrochemical reduction of the known tetrahedral complex CuII(dpym)20 (E0 = −290 mV vs. SCE) or by the quantitative reaction of 2Hdpym with Cu(CH3CN)4+ in the absence of O2. The latter reaction does not go to completion in solvents that bind relatively strongly to CuI or that are poor proton acceptors. Ligand exchange between CuI(dpym)2− excess Hdpym in acetone is "fast" in the 1H NMR timeframe, with k1 = 1.4 × 107 L mol−1 s−1at 298 K (first order in each reactant), ΔH‡1 = 3.4 ± 0.6 kJ mol−1, and ΔS‡1 = −97 ± 3 J K−1 mol−1. In the absence of excess Hdpym, dissociation of CuI(dpym)2− in acetone remains negligible. Homogeneous electron exchange between CuI(dpym)2− and CuII(dpym)20 in acetone falls in the "slow" 1H NMR timeframe, with kex = 5.9 × 103 L mol−1 s−1, ΔH‡ex = 48.5 ± 3.0 kJ mol−1, and ΔS‡ex = −10 ± 10 J K−1, at ionic strength I ≈ 0.007 mol L−1 and 298 K, while for the same self-exchange on a Pt electrode the heterogeneous rate constant kel = 0.16±0.04 cm s−1 at I ≈ 0.1 mol−1L−1 and 298 K, according to AC voltammetry. These values of Kex and Kel are of the order expected for CuII/I couples in which no significant change in coordination number or geometry accompanies electron transfer. Abstract The aluminosilicate iodide sodalite |Na8I2|[AlSiO4]6 was examined by temperature-dependent neutron time-of-flight powder diffraction from 5 K to 290 K and X-ray diffraction from 298 K to 1200 K. The temperature-dependent properties of the mean structure in space group P4̅3n were obtained by Rietveld analysis. A negative slope for the thermal expansion coefficient below 50 K could be observed, and the displacement parameters of the iodide ions indicate anharmonic effects. Local structure models (8×8×8 super cells) were refined against pair-distribution functions calculated from total scattering data collected at 5 K, 165 K and 240 K. The results indicate isotropic displacements for all atoms except for I-atoms, showing the effects of an anharmonic potential around this anion at very low temperatures.

Cilj je ovoga rada bio identificirati profile ciljnih orijentacija studenata i ispitati razlike u učestalosti korištenja specifičnih strategija samoregulacije motivacije između studenata različitih profila ciljnih orijentacija. Istraživanje je provedeno na uzorku od 290 studenata nastavničkih studija primjenom upitnika. Analizom latentnih profila identificirane su četiri grupe studenata različitih profila ciljnih orijentacija: niskoorijentirani na uspjeh (21.3 %), prosječni (45.8 %), orijentirani na učenje (25.3 %) i orijentirani na uspjeh (7.6 %). Rezultati pokazuju da su studenti s motivacijski nepovoljnijim profilima (niskoorijentirani na uspjeh, prosječni) općenito manje skloni koristiti strategije regulacije motivacije. Iako studenti koji su orijentirani na učenje i studenti koji su orijentirani na uspjeh većinu ispitanih strategija koriste podjednako često, studenti koji su orijentirani na učenje češće koriste strategije regulacije vrijednosti i situacijskoga interesa.

However, several measures exists to assess the modularity, and give both different modularity values and different modules composition. In this article, I propose an a posteriori measure of modularity, which represents the ratio of interactions between members of the same modules vs. members of different modules. I apply this measure to a large dataset of 290 ecological networks, to show that it gives new insights about their modularity.

The article concerns with the Late Babylonian text YOS 20. 87 which contains valuable information on the building of the Rēš Temple in Early Seleukid Uruk. The chronology of the text covers the period from 290 to 275 B. C. that corresponds to the time of Antiochos I’s coregency and the first years of his sovereign reign. There was a number of “instructions” (ṭēmu) regarding the building of Bīt Rēš, one of them seems to be the letter of Antiochos himself. The king apparently supported this initiative although he most likely did not personally participate in it. The mention of Queen Apama, mother of Antiochos and the first wife of Seleukos I, in YOS 20. 87 indicates that c. 290 B. C. she was probably alive and together with her son contributed to the building the Rēš Temple. Kidin-Anu, the āšipu priest of Anu, can be identified with the chief priest (šešgallu) of Bīt Rēš known from several Late Babylonian ritual texts. The evidence finds a parallel in so-called Uruk prophecy which may also contain allusions to the first Seleukids. All these sources provide an important evidence on the early stage of the history of the Rēš Temple. It also demonstrates that royal patronage of the first Seleukids (especially Antiochos I) was not limited only to Babylon and Borsippa.

Strengthening masonry columns by spraying them with glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) was investigated experimentally. The study was aimed at assessing the strength and strain increases imparted by the technique under both concentric and eccentric axial loading. Plain and steel-reinforced columns were tested. Twenty-four columns were constructed from Type S mortar and straight and bullnose clay masonry units. The columns were 1 m high and either 290 mm × 290 mm or 390 mm × 390 mm in cross section. Two thicknesses of sprayed GFRP (SGFRP) were attempted, but it was found to be difficult to maintain uniform thickness. Nevertheless, with only minor increases in strength, large increases in strain capacity were achieved with both the plain and reinforced columns under concentric axial compression. Eccentric loading reduced the effect of the SGFRP laminate on the strength of masonry columns. Failure of SGFRP included both mode I and mode III fractures.

Viroids are the smallest infectious agents known, being unencapsidated RNAs of 240-380 bases. Citrus exocortis viroid (CEV) causes poor tree performance, especially when infected scions are grafted to trifoliate orange or citrange rootstocks. To eliminate infected budwood trees, various methods were used to detect CEV, including field inspections, bud inoculation of Etrog citron indicators (in which CEV causes severe epinasty) and hybridisation with CEV cDNA. A large number of trees with exocortis- like symptoms such as dwarfing and/or bud union abnormalities produced only mild epinasty when grafted on Etrog citron and did not hybridise to the CEV probe. Upon purification and electrophoretic analysis, the presence of viroids other than CEV was demonstrated. Screening of over 1800 trees resulted in the detection of four groups of viroids as determined by RNA homology and length in nucleotides. CEV was the only member of the first group and was the largest viroid detected, with 371 bases. CEV almost invariably occurred with other viroids of lower molecular weight. The second group, CV I, contained two viroids, of 325 and 332 bases, which were not homologous to CEV or hop stunt viroid (HSVd). Group CV II contained three viroids, of 297, 299 and 302 bases, all of which were homologous to HSVd. The CV III group contained two viroids, of 290 and 295 bases, which were not homologous to CEV or HSVd. The CV II and CV III groups were strongly associated with various field symptoms, including the disease cachexia (CV IIb), and dwarfing of trees on trifoliate orange rootstock. To confirm any causal relationship between individual viroids and field symptoms, viroids representative of each group were purified and used to inoculate Etrog citron. Tissue from these citrons was used to inoculate young field trees with viroids, singly and in combination. Parson's Special mandarin inoculated with CV IIb showed symptoms of cachexia after 2 years, confirming CV IIb as a causal agent of this disease. It will probably be 5 years before the effect of other inoculations can be assessed.

The effect of hypothermia in patients with cold agglutinin disease was studied in a patient with a strongly positive agglutination at 4°C (1:16,000 titer, a thermal amplitude of 30°C or less, and a specific I antibody). The study investigates a method of hemodilution by which patients with cold agglutinin disease may safely undergo hypothermia during cardiopulmonary bypass. By diluting the blood with an isotonic solution, the tendency toward agglutination of red blood cells is reduced, along with the risks associated with hypothermia in the patient with cold agglutinin disease. It was concluded that as the degree of hemodilution of the blood is increased, hemodilution reduced the tendency toward aggregation of red blood cells during hypothermia when cold agglutinins are present in the blood. As a result, hemodilution may enable a patient with cold agglutinin disease to safely undergo cold cardioplegia and cardiac arrest during hypothermic conditions.

ABSTRACT Samples of human and ruminant mammary secretions stimulated the proliferation of rat intestinal epithelial (RIE-1) cells in culture. The stimulation was dose-dependent, and samples taken prepartum had greater potency than those taken after parturition. When various hormones and growth factors known to be present in milk were tested, only epidermal growth factor (EGF), insulin and insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) stimulated the proliferation of RIE-1 cells. IGF-I was effective at lower concentrations than insulin, and the maximal stimulation induced by each of these two polypeptides was greater than that induced by EGF. U radu su prikazani rezultati utjecaja standardne sjetve i sjetve u udvojene redove tj. twin row tehnologije na prinos zrna kukuruza u Republici Hrvatskoj. Istraživanja su provedena od 2016. do 2020. godine na dva pokušališta: Jakšić (45°21'56,12"N i 17°47'0,08"E) i pokušalište Lužani (45°09'07,8"N i 17°42'41,6"E). U istraživanju je provedena sjetva hibrida KWS 2370 (FAO 290) i KWS Smaragd (FAO 350) na razmak redova 70 cm, te u udvojene redove s razmakom 22 cm. Tijekom provođenja pokusa sjetvom u udvojene redove ostvaren je značajno veći prinos zrna (kg ha-1), ali s nešto većom vlagom zrna u vrijeme berbe. Najviši prinos zrna na pokušalištu Jakšić u standardnoj sjetvi zabilježen je 2016. godine od 12 180 kg ha-1 kod hibrida KWS 2370 iz FAO grupe 290 dok je u sjetvi u sustavu udvojenih redova ostvaren prosječni prinos zrna veći za 10,76 % u odnosu na standardnu sjetvu. Najniži zabilježeni prinosi zrna (kg ha-1) na istom pokušalištu ostvaren je u 2017. vegetacijskoj godini. Iste godine u tehnologiji udvojenih redova ostvaren je prinos zrna za 15,51 % veći u odnosu na standardnu sjetvu. Također u vegetacijskoj 2017. godini i na pokušalištu Lužani zabilježeni su najniži prosječni prinosi zrna u berbi pri čemu je sjetva u udvojene redove ostvarila povećanje prinosa od 12,03 % u odnosu na standardnu sjetvu. Kod sjetve hibrida KWS Smaragd najniži prinos zrna zabilježen je u 2016. godini s 10 450 kg ha-1, dok je prinos u udvojenim redovima iznosio 11 693 kg ha-1, pri čemu je zabilježena i najveća razlika između sustava sjetve od 11,89 % na pokušalištu Lužani. Sjetva u udvojene redove na oba pokušališta rezultirala je statistički značajnim razlikama za glavna svojstva istraživanja u svih pet vegetacijskih godina. Statistički značajne razlike uočene su i za svojstvo mase zrna po klipu kao i sadržaja vlage u zrnu. Nešto niža vrijednost vlage u zrnu u svih pet godina istraživanja zabilježena je u standardnoj sjetvi. Razlike ostvarenih sklopova na pokušalištima u vrijeme petogodišnjeg istraživanja nisu bile statistički značajne.

The temperature dependence of the bulk and periphery forward current components of vertical 4H-SiC p+-i-n diodes, with Al+ implanted circular anodes of diameters in the range 150-1000 mm, have been obtained from the analysis of the results of forward current-voltage measurements in the temperature range 30-290°C. The zero voltage bulk and periphery current densities at different temperatures have been used to compute the temperature dependence of: (i) the effective carrier lifetime in the space charge region, (ii) the minority carrier diffusion coefficient to lifetime ratio in the base region, and (iii) a surface quality parameter.

Square shaped annular lateral p+–i–n+ diodes on high purity semi-insulating (HPSI) 4H-SiC are fabricated by Al+ and P+ ion implantation to obtain anode and cathode regions, respectively. All the diodes have the same size central anode surrounded by an intrinsic region, which is surrounded by an annular cathode. Anode area and annular cathode width are fixed for all diodes, only the lateral length of the intrinsic region is varied. Post implantation annealing is performed at 1950 °C for 10 min. Static forward and reverse characteristics are measured in the temperature range of 30 - 290 °C. For all diodes, the reverse current is below the instrument detection limit of 10-14 A up to 100 °C at 200 V, the maximum reverse bias employed in this study. The reverse current increased up to low 108 A for 200 V reverse bias at 290 °C. Forward currents overlap at the low voltage region once they exceed the instrument detection limit at ~1.6 V and 30 °C. The forward currents follow almost identical exponential trend at all measured temperatures while the diode series resistance increase with increasing anode-cathode distance and decreased with increasing temperature for the given intrinsic region lateral length.

The 127I NQR frequency in anilinium iodide C6H5NH3⊕I⊖ was studied at pressures up to 300 MPa and within the temperature range 77 K - 290 K. With increasing pressure the order-disorder transition point Tc is shifted to higher temperatures. The pressure coefficient of the phase transition temperature amounts to dTc/dp = 4.2 x 10-2 deg MPa-1. The pressure coefficient of the NQR frequency is negative. In addition, the 12'I nuclear quadrupole coupling constants and the respective asymmetry parameters η were evaluated as a function of pressure. The results confirm the close connection between the mechanism of the phase transition and the dynamics of the N - H⊕ ...I⊖ hydrogen bonds.

The organic–inorganic hybrid compound 4-aminopyridinium tetraaquabis(sulfato)iron(III), (C5H7N2)[FeIII(H2O)4(SO4)2] (4apFeS), was obtained by slow evaporation of the solvent at room temperature and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction in the temperature range from 290 to 80 K. Differential scanning calorimetry revealed that the title compound undergoes a sequence of three reversible phase transitions, which has been verified by variable-temperature X-ray diffraction analysis during cooling–heating cycles over the temperature ranges 290–100–290 K. In the room-temperature phase (I), space group C2/c, oxygen atoms from the closest Fe-atom environment (octahedral) were disordered over two equivalent positions around a twofold axis. Two intermediate phases (II), (III) were solved and refined as incommensurately modulated structures, employing the superspace formalism applied to single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. Both structures can be described in the (3+1)-dimensional monoclinic X2/c(α,0,γ)0s superspace group (where X is ½, ½, 0, ½) with modulation wavevectors q = (0.2943, 0, 0.5640) and q = (0.3366, 0, 0.5544) for phases (II) and (III), respectively. The completely ordered low-temperature phase (IV) was refined with the twinning model in the triclinic P{\overline 1} space group, revealing the existence of two domains. The dynamics of the disordered anionic substructure in the 4apFeS crystal seems to play an essential role in the phase transition mechanisms. The discrete organic moieties were found to be fully ordered even at room temperature.

Parafia nowobretańska miała charakter narodowy i personalny, liczyła około 7,5 tys. wiernych, i tak zaprezentowana została na łamach „Dziennika Chicagoskiego”. Jej pierwszy proboszcz, ks. Lucjan Bójnowski, pozostał na tym stanowisku 62 lata (1895-1957). W tym czasie zbudowano kościół drewniany, po 1902 r. murowany, a także szkołę i ochronkę, wydawano gazetę. Wokół tej parafii swoją działalność prowadziły różne towarzystwa religijne, kulturalne i narodowe mające na celu pogłębianie i podtrzymanie polskiej świadomości narodowej wśród emigrantów, więzi ze starym krajem, pogłębianie życia religijnego. Obok pomocy duchowej, uroczystych nabożeństw, parafia polska w New Britain dostarczyła do „błękitnej armii” wielu rekrutów, a także tysiące dolarów pomocy materialnej staremu krajowi. Do armii polskiej we Francji wstąpiło z tej parafii polskiej 290 ochotników. Łącznie do armii polskiej i amerykańskiej wstąpiło 965 Polaków. Z nich 123 oddało życie. Ogromną rolę odegrała parafia polska przede wszystkim w sprawach odrodzenia poczucia narodowego i odrodzenia niepodległego Państwa Polskiego. Więź emigrantów polskich z Kościołem poza ojczystym krajem kształtowała poczucie tożsamości religijnej i narodowej.

To identify new T-cell epitopes of classical swine fever virus (CSFV), 573 overlapping, synthetic pentadecapeptides spanning 82% of the CSFV (strain Glentorf) genome sequence were synthesized and screened. In proliferation assays, 26 peptides distributed throughout the CSFV viral protein sequences were able to induce specific T-cell responses in PBMCs from a CSFV-Glentorf-infected d/d haplotype pig. Of these 26 peptides, 18 were also recognized by PBMCs from a CSFV-Alfort/187-infected d/d haplotype pig. In further experiments, it could be shown that peptide 290 (KHKVRNEVMVHWFDD), which corresponds to amino acid residues 1446–1460 of the CSFV non-structural protein NS2–3 could induce interferon-γ secretion after secondary in vitro restimulation. The major histocompatibility complex (MHC) restriction for stimulation of T-cells by this pentadecapeptide was identified as being mainly MHC class II and partially MHC class I. In cytolytic assays, CSFV-specific cytotoxic T-lymphocytes (CTLs) were able to lyse peptide 290-loaded target cells. These findings indicate the existence of a CSFV-specific helper T-cell epitope and a CTL epitope in this peptide.

In The Riddle of Hume’s Treatise: Skepticism, Naturalism, and Irreligion (2008), Paul Russell makes a strong case for the claim that “The primary aim of Hume’s series of skeptical arguments, as developed and distributed throughout the Treatise, is to discredit the doctrines and dogmas of Christian philosophy and theology with a view toward redirecting our philosophical investigations to areas of ‘common life, ’ with the particular aim of advancing ‘the science of man’”; (2008, 290). Understanding Hume in this way, according to Russell, sheds light on the “ultimate riddle”; of the Treatise: “is it possible to reconcile Hume’s (extreme) skeptical principles and conclusions with his aim to advance the ‘science of man’”; (2008, 3)? Or does Hume’s skepticism undermine his “secular, scientific account of the foundations of moral life in human nature”; (290)? Russell’s controversial thesis is that “the irreligious nature of Hume’s fundamental intentions in the Treatise”; is essential to solving the riddle (11). Russell makes a compelling case for Hume’s irreligion as well as his atheism. Contrary to this interpretation I argue that Hume is an irreligious theist and not an atheist.

En el presente trabajo se exponen los resultados iniciales del análisis ceramológico del Componente 1 del sitio Barranca I, fechado en LP- 2677 - 290 ± 50 años AP, localizado en el área del piedemonte de la sección oriental de la Sierra de Comechingones (Dpto. Río Cuarto, Córdoba, Argentina). Se examinan aspectos tecnológicos, morfológicos, funcionales y estilísticos de un registro caracterizado por la homogeneidad de las pastas a nivel macroscópico y un alto grado de fragmentación de los tiestos. El objetivo del análisis de estos materiales fue lograr una aproximación al comportamiento de estas sociedades en lo que respecta a pautas de manufactura y uso de los diferentes contenedores cerámicos, de acuerdo al entorno ambiental del monte del espinal.AbstractThis paper exposed the initial results of the ceramic analysis of the Component 1 from the site Barranca I, dated 2677 LP- 290 ± 50 years BP, located in the area of the foothills of the eastern section of the Sierra de Comechingones (Dept. Río Cuarto, Córdoba, Argentina). Technological, morphological, functional and stylistic aspects of a record characterized by the homogeneity of ceramic pastas at the macroscopic level and a high degree of fragmentation of the pots are considered here. The objective of the analysis of these materials was obtain an approximate the behavior of these societies with respect to patterns of manufacture and use of the various ceramic containers, according to the ambient environment of espinal.
